EDITOR’S WELCOME

SUMMER’S FINALE

August in Sun Valley is the highlight of summer, where we celebrate the season with a variety of live music, diverse festivals, and plenty of toasts and time spent with family and friends. Lake days, riverbanks, long hikes, bike rides, BBQs, and sunsets are among the reasons we love our home in the mountains of south-central Idaho. Art shows and events, along with the symphony and some Shakespeare, make it even more fun, and ending with our beloved Wagon Days—the best nonmotorized parade in the West—is the perfect finish!

To top off summer, SVPN Magazine ’s August edition features the vibrant James and Caitlin Holesinsky of Idaho’s Holesinsky Vineyard + Winery, whose wines and products are celebrated throughout the Northwest, especially in Sun Valley—Idawater being a favorite among us. Discover the passion and style of the Holesinskys and their commitment to Idaho. When they are not working as chemists and making wine and other products, they enjoy spending time in Sun Valley with their children.

And since we’re diving into Idaho, read about the USS IDAHO (SSN 799) and the call for support to Blaine County residents for the state’s newest submarine, which will travel the world and carry the best of Idaho with it. It’s an incredible achievement, and you can be a part of it!

This issue also features Far + Wise, with its message of helping Blaine County students prepare for their futures and supporting them. It’s a program that’s transforming lives by providing a stable future for everyone.

For August, SVPN also celebrates the arts by supporting the Artist Studio Tour of the Wood River Valley. Read about a few of the artists and their work, which will be open for three days, August 22-24. Be sure to check with the artists for specific hours. In addition, this issue is packed with events and happenings that support the arts, along with everything happening around the Wood River Valley, featured in SVPN ’s Events and Arts Etc. sections. Also, to support the arts, learn about the Sun Valley Film Festival’s return of its 1 Potato Grant. Read all about it in News & Views.

With two Gallery Walks scheduled for August, SVPN features a profile of Gilman Contemporary artist Dana Hart-Stone, along with an overview of this month’s events at the Sun Valley Museum of Art, and Now Showing includes all the exhibitions for your interests.

For live music, read about the debut of the Valley Music Festival at Champions Meadow and don’t miss The Revivalists at the Sun Valley Pavilion. Adding to Labor Day events, we have Wagon Days ready to go, complete with a full schedule and a write-up by SVPN Magazine’s writer and Sun Valley native Aurora Wilkinson.

For this month’s Wellness section, SVPN highlights Zenergy Health Cllub & Spa’s newly renovated Himalayan salt saunas, known for improving mind-body wellness. Also read about St. Luke’s and its role in the Blaine County Mental Well-Being Initiative, as well as CENTERED on the AMIT method for neuromuscular movement. There is much to learn about wellness in this August edition.

There’s plenty more to read about, including the Trailing of the Sheep’s Starry, Starry Night Fundraiser (an event not to be missed), a fantastic retreat ranch property in the Sawtooth Valley, and exotic gem and wellness events at Monarch with Jensen Stern jewelers, simply beautiful for the eyes, body, soul, and mind.

Dining in August features all members of the Sun Valley Restaurant Association, each offering summer dishes and menus you won’t want to miss. And explore SVPN ’s real estate listings— your forever home might be waiting for you there.

Enjoy and stay mindful of others,

THE 1 POTATO SHORT FILM GRANT

SVFF Supports Idaho Independent Filmmakers and Film Production

The Sun Valley Film Festival (SVFF) proudly announces the return of the 1 Potato Short Film Production Grant, a $5,000 award supporting the creation of short narrative and documentary films shot on location in Idaho. Now in its sixth year, the 1 Potato grant continues its mission to uplift emerging voices and expand the filmmaking community within Idaho.

The grant is open to all U.S.-based filmmakers and welcomes submissions for short scripts and short documentary pitches. All projects must be filmed entirely in Idaho, with the winning filmmaker receiving funding, support, and guidance from SVFF from pre-production through festival launch. The completed film will premiere at the 2026 Sun Valley Film Festival.

2019 winner and Girls Are Strong Here
director Scott Burkhardt with Boise-based actress Katrina Wright

“We are excited to bring back the 1 Potato production grant to support filmmaking in the state of Idaho,” says SVFF Programming Manager Celeste Matika. “This year marks the first year that the grant is also open to documentary shorts. SVFF has a rich programming history with documentaries, and it felt natural to open the category to short docs when bringing back the program.”

SVFF will support the grantee by connecting them with experienced mentors, crew, and resources across Idaho, and by helping to build momentum as the project progresses into the broader festival circuit.

Past recipient Scott Burkhardt, whose film Girls Are Strong Here received the 1 Potato Award, shares,

“The 1 Potato Award was the catalyst for me to make Girls Are Strong Here. The film went on to play a dozen festivals and won the Grand Jury Prize at IFF Boston and the 2022 Humanitas Prize for Best Short Film. I could not have done it without the support of the Sun Valley Film Festival and the amazing Idaho crew they connected me with.”

Whether you’re developing a short film with Idaho in mind or seeking to bring a story rooted in the region to life, the 1 Potato grant offers a meaningful opportunity to take your idea from page to screen, with Idaho’s landscapes and communities as the backdrop.

The winning project will be announced at the 2025 Sun Valley Film Festival, December 3-7, with production to be completed within one year. 

I N T H E

SP I R I T

What started as an Idaho family dairy on the Snake River in the 1970s took a completely new direction in 2001 when 21-year-old James Holesinsky planted a plot of 1,000 Chardonnay grapes. Since then, Holesinsky Vineyard + Winery has become one of Idaho’s most prestigious vineyards and wineries. And Holesinsky Vineyard + Winery continues to expand with varieties like Syrah, Merlot, and Moscato. In addition to wines, Holesinsky also produces Idawater, a refreshing and delicious sparkling water, and crafted vodka, made from potatoes—of course.

“We are more than just a winery and vineyard—we are always evolving and ready for anything,” says James. “As we expand our vineyards and plant new ones, we’re deepening our Idaho roots, one wine, one bottle, and one glass at a time.”

Based on science and fueled by a bold and ever-expanding vision, James, along with Caitlin, is a chemist by trade, and had a steadfast determination to expand an original 40-acre property to over 250 acres, now featuring lush vineyards, tranquil ponds, hundreds of acres of native farm ground, and thousands of trees.

“From farm to glass, everything we do honors where we have been and where we are going,” says Caitlin. “Holesinsky Vineyard + Winery is now one of the largest case producers in Idaho. All three local brands come together under one vision—Holesinsky Family Brands.” She adds, “From our estate-grown wines produced at the only USDA organic vineyard in Idaho, to our craft potato vodka, grown and distilled by us, and Idawater, our sparkling water brand made from pure Idaho spring water and finished in our champagne tanks.”

Caitlin and James Holesinsky’s chemisty thrives in business and life

Caitlin and James don’t worry much about wine competitions. While these contests may draw visitors to their vineyard because of the big awards and medals, that’s not their main focus. Still, they continue to produce award-winning wines.

“Historically, most of our awards have been for our whites, rosés, and sparkling wines,” says Caitlin. “Different markets focus on different things. In the Wood River Valley, I sell a lot more Idawater than wine. In the Magic Valley, I barely sell any Idawater but have almost completely saturated the wine market.”

She adds, “Many winemakers and brand owners come and go from the Wood River Valley. It often takes a few years of consistency for people to give you a chance. It’s a resort town, so winemakers may come in with a big push, not see immediate returns, and then move on to other markets. We’ve focused on

building lasting relationships with our industry partners, and the support we’ve received has been incredible. I love serving Idaho wine to a crowd of white Burgundy lovers who only want to drink French and California wines. It’s an opportunity to change their minds about what Idaho wines have been and give them a taste of what they should be.”

As an Idaho business, Holesinsky thrives with a deep connection to the local community and embraces what makes Idaho unique. For Caitlin and James, Sun Valley, Boise, and the surrounding areas are a perfect blend of natural beauty and a strong sense of culture, where people appreciate authenticity and quality. By offering high-quality wines, hosting memorable events, and staying true to their roots, they’ve built strong relationships with their customers and beyond the state. From hosting wine tastings and seasonal events to supporting local organizations, they have established themselves as a staple in the region, particularly with a strong commitment to nonprofits. Instilled with a belief in philanthropy from her upbringing and her father’s devotion to helping nonprofits, Caitlin and James see giving back and offering tastings and wine pourings as opportunities to meet new friends, connect through meaningful relationships, and enjoy.

“I’m most proud of our water,” says Caitlin. “We are 100% disrupting the sparkling water game right now. By using the same traditional methods trusted by the world’s finest sparkling wines, we create a softer, more balanced effervescence. It’s one that people can truly taste, feel, and remember. Its effervescence doesn’t come from inline-injected CO2 during bottling. Idawater is crafted with care after being transported from the Idaho Spring source, placed in our

She adds, “We are also proud to be part of Idaho’s growing wine scene, which continues to gain recognition for its unique terroir. Outside Idaho, our wines are starting to attract the attention of connoisseurs and enthusiasts. We’ve had the pleasure of showcasing Idaho’s potential to those who might have previously overlooked our wines, demonstrating that Idaho offers more than just potatoes. There’s a rich culture here, and we’re eager to contribute to it. We are what you might call ‘lifers.’ We create and innovate driven by our passion. I truly believe that the love James and I share is bottled inside every wine we produce, and the connection we have to our land, soil, and climate.”

Always exploring new frontiers with great excitement and devotion, James is working on producing nonalcoholic wine and has recently acquired a highend cross flow machine to enhance the quality of Holesinsky’s wine and bring James’s vision of a nonalcoholic wine to fruition.

“We love new gadgets and tools to help us improve our products,” says James. “Our portfolio has grown large and become very diverse, and we keep dreaming of more. In Idaho, most of our wines are enjoyed within the state and rarely travel outside it. Many vintners struggle to keep up with production or to allow their red wines to age properly in the bottle. At Holesinsky, we make it a point to let our reds rest for at least six months to a year before releasing them, giving the wine time to develop and continue its journey in the bottle.”

Planting Chenin Blanc and Granché at a nearby property, which slopes towards the Snake River next to peach and tree orchards, James and Caitlin are strategizing about a new 10-acre test plot of grapes on the Holesinsky Farm, adjacent to their current Estate Vineyard. It’s a place where they plan to build their forever home on the Snake River Canyon Rim, where three different mountain ranges are visible.

“I’m waiting for the perfect year, the ideal climate, and optimal conditions. When that time comes, I will barrel-age red wines, using French Lees aging, then bottle them, and let them mature for 10 to 15 years,”

“I’m waiting for the perfect year, the perfect climate, and the ideal conditions. When that time arrives, I will barrel-age red wines, bottle them, and let them rest for 10 to 15 years.”

When they are not working on the vineyard, the Holesinsky family spends a great deal of time in Sun Valley, where they enjoy the outdoors and relax. James and Caitlin are skilled snowboarders, and their children, Henrik and Holland, love Baldy and skating at the Sun Valley Ice Rink. In addition, you can find the Holesinskys pouring at events, hosting tastings, and enjoying the environs of Sun Valley. Their popular Idawater is also available in Ketchum along with their wines, both of which appear on most restaurant menus throughout the Wood River Valley.

“The Wood River Valley reminds me of my childhood,” says Caitlin, who grew up in Alaska. “I’m so thankful to be able to pass on these experiences and a sense of place to my children.”  SAVE THE DATE SEPTEMBER

BREAKING BARRIERS

Far + Wise Transforms Educational Pathways in Blaine County

Far + Wise is rewriting the story of educational opportunity in Blaine County. For 13 years, the local nonprofit has been dismantling barriers that prevent students from pursuing their dreams—barriers that affect 58% of working families in the Valley who, despite full-time employment, struggle to make ends meet.

“Supporting students who are highly capable and have enormous potential is our goal,” explains Sam Herrick, who stepped into the Executive Director role on June 1 following the six-year leadership of Laura Rose-Lewis.

Many of the families served by Far + Wise carry deep aspirations for their children’s futures, but often lack the roadmap to transform aspirations into action. Without access to the right networks or knowledge of how to navigate complex educational and career systems, these dreams can feel impossibly distant. Far + Wise bridges that gap. “We make sure our students have daily access to mentors, resources, and

examples of success, helping them see that college and skilled careers aren’t just dreams, but achievable goals,” Herrick says.

Far + Wise serves as a comprehensive educational support system for students from kindergarten through career, dismantling barriers that limit access to opportunity—from financial constraints to lack of mentorship, from academic gaps to missing career connections. The impact speaks for itself in the 2024-25 academic year, Far + Wise students’ English Language Arts scores(for grade K-5) increased by an average of 78%, while their math scores (for grades K-3) soared by an average of 273%. “We see the massive potential in every student we serve,” says Herrick. “By providing these crucial resources, Far + Wise empowers them to pursue life-changing trajectories they never imagined possible.”

Far + Wise operates through two distinct but complementary programs designed to meet students where they are and help them expand their vision of what they can achieve. The Lewis Scholars Program provides year-round, individualized after-school support

from kindergarten through high school graduation. Following graduation, Far + Wise provides scholarships to remove the barrier of college and trade school expenses, making students’ pursuit of their passions and talents more realistic and possible.

“Many of the families we serve have parents working multiple jobs, which makes it challenging for their kids to find a safe, supportive place to focus on their studies and explore their future,” says Herrick. “Far + Wise provides that stable foundation—the tutoring, the mentorship, the exposure to possibilities they might not otherwise see, plus the scholarships that make those possibilities truly accessible.”

Cimino Center for Career Exploration (CCE), launched in 2022, is an initiative that broadens students’ perspectives on potential career paths. Through short-term, hands-on experiences, it exposes students to different careers, connects students with local employers and provides career guidance, job training, and resume-building opportunities—including internships and preapprenticeships tailored to the Blaine County economy.

“The CCE is connecting our students directly with local employers and showing them career paths they never knew existed right here in the Valley,” notes Herrick. “We’re seeing students light up when they discover they can build a meaningful career in hospitality, construction, or the culinary arts without leaving home. That’s exactly what our community needs.”

Far + Wise’s success stems from extensive partnerships with Blaine County School District, the Wood River YMCA, Sun Valley Company, Idaho BaseCamp, Sun Valley Culinary Institute, and Sun Valley Economic Development, among others.

This collaborative approach is evident in the SummerBridge program, where Far + Wise has joined forces with the Wood River YMCA, Blaine County School District, and Lee Pesky Learning

Center to serve nearly 300 local students for five weeks every summer. The program combines academic support with traditional camp experiences—field trips, group games, and outdoor play—preventing learning loss while capturing the adventure kids crave during the summer break.

Ultimately, Far + Wise believes that, given equitable access to resources and support, every young person can realize their innate potential and design their own future—whether that leads to college, the skilled trades, starting a business, or building a career in the Wood River Valley. As Herrick states it, “Real change takes commitment and isn’t easy, but when we work together, these kids will transform not just their own lives, but our entire community.”

Herrick’s vision reflects a deeper commitment to community sustainability. “Within five years, I want to see every high school student in Blaine County graduating with a concrete post-secondary plan—whether that’s college, a professional trade, healthcare, teaching, or starting their own business. Success means ensuring our young people have real choices and the support to pursue them, whether that keeps them in the Wood River Valley or opens doors to opportunities beyond.” 

STARRY STARRY NIGHT IN THE WILD WEST

A Wild West Evening to Support the Trailing of the Sheep Festival

Every fall, 1,200 sheep trail down Ketchum’s Main Street, hoofing it from their high mountain summer pastures to winter grazing spots farther south. This “Big Sheep Parade” marks the end of the annual Trailing of the Sheep Festival, a five-day event in October celebrating arts, culture, and tradition that honors more than 150 years of sheepherding in the Wood River Valley.

From wool classes to storytelling programs, cooking classes to farm-to-table dinners, the National Qualifying Sheepdog Trials and more, the Festival honors the traditions of Idaho’s sheep ranching families, highlighting the historic and ongoing role of Basque, Scottish, and Peruvian contributors.

With free events for all ages, the small staff of the nonprofit Trailing of the Sheep Festival works hard throughout the year to prepare for the multi-day celebration that has been recognized by top travel sites as one of the best fall festivals in the world.

On August 7, the Festival hosts its annual gala, this year themed “Starry Starry Night In The Wild West.”

“The last two years of fundraisers had art themes, and this year we wanted to create something more unique, specifically for our community,” says Laura Musbach Drake, Executive Director of the Trailing of the Sheep Festival. “As we discussed ideas, a Wild West theme made a lot of sense—both for our guests to enjoy an evening of fun and to support our mission to gather, celebrate, present, and preserve the history and cultures of sheepherding in Idaho and the West.”

“We really rely on our community to help make the Starry Starry Night event a success so we can put on our October Festival and keep our most popular events like the Big Sheep Parade, Folklife Fair, Sheep Ranching Q&A, and others free and accessible to everyone.”

Guests are invited to don their best Western wear and come out to enjoy live music, silent and live auctions, and dinner by Silver Fox Catering and Grand Teton Lamb of Idaho, all in support of the Festival. Auctioneer Heather Frank of Collective Purpose Philanthropy, whose team helps organize the event, returns again this year to lead the live auction.

“This year, we are auctioning off items like some great international trips,” Drake says, “as well as a home on Hayden Lake in Coeur d’Alene.”

The evening also features a Mystery Raffle, which in past years has included prizes like getaways to Spain and a winner’s choice trip to Puerto Plata, Puerto Morelos, Riviera Maya, Mazatlán, or Cozumel. Guests will also have the opportunity to customize their very own hat at the Idaho Hat Bar, a Boisebased outfit.

You can select your hat style and color, choose accessories, and even have your initials branded on it. “It really is a customizeyour-own-hat bar, like a salad bar!” says Drake.

Live music from local trio Dewey, Pickett, and Howe completes the Wild West atmosphere. With their combined experience performing bluegrass, cowboy, country rock, and new acoustic music, the band has created a fresh northern Rockies bluegrass sound, replete with charming arrangements and delightful harmonies.

“They have played for our attendees at the October Festival in past years,” Drake says. “Their music is a great fit for our theme this year, and we love to support local talent who have been friends of the Festival.”

Finally, all guests will receive a surprise swag gift. VIP ticket holders will take home a special Sheriff’s VIP Swag. “Both are mysteries to be revealed to our guests that evening,” says Drake.

At the end of the night, all who’ve joined will leave knowing they’ve helped to continue the fall tradition of recognizing and celebrating sheepherding in central Idaho.

“Many people don’t know we are a nonprofit organization,” Drake says. “We have a volunteer board of directors, a small year-round staff of two and a half people (supported by seasonal contract staff), and we run a lean operation because we really want to put all the funds back into producing a great Trailing of the Sheep Festival for our community and for those who come to town to join us.”

The Festival, which draws 25,000 people annually from nearly all 50 states and beyond, receives support from The Chamber and Visit Idaho, American Lamb Board, Idaho Commission on the Arts and the Idaho Wool Growers Association. Ticketed programs during the Festival also contribute, but, as Drake says, it’s really individuals and families, sponsors, and grants that help make their work possible.

“We really depend on our community to help make the Starry Starry Night event a success so we can host our October Festival and keep our most popular events like the Big Sheep Parade, Folklife Fair, Sheep Ranching Q&A, and other activities free and accessible to everyone,” she says. “We hope anyone interested in celebrating the rich cultures of the past and present, and continuing our fall tradition, will join us.” 

WAGON DAYS

Connecting generations through grit, tradition, and adventure

Ketchum may look different than it did a century ago, but signs of its past still shape the landscape and the people who live here. Dusty side roads lead to long-abandoned mining sites. Wooden fence lines tilt along weather-worn fields. Train tracks run quiet beside the Big Wood River, reminders of the days when this valley was built by grit, handwork, and horsepower.

That legacy endures every Labor Day weekend, when Wagon Days revives Ketchum’s pioneer history. What started in 1958 as a humble hometown parade has expanded into one of the largest non-motorized festivals in the nation. But beyond the spectacle of mule teams and ore wagons, Wagon Days continues to be a gathering of generations, serving as a cultural link that connects the past with the present.

Heather LaMonica Deckard has been the longtime Wagon Days coordinator.

“When I started helping with this event, I was in my early twenties. Now I’m approaching fifty,” says Deckard. “For me, Wagon Days has changed from something I loved as a young participant into a symbol of what it means to be a Blaine County resident.”

Deckard describes the festival as a symbol of the valley’s lasting identity. “Wagon Days speaks to Ketchum’s timeless character, a character of grit, adventure, and community,” she says. “When I look at that time period, I see neighbors backing each other in a tough, outdoor setting, and I believe we still do that today.”

Deckard explains that the era celebrated by Wagon Days is more than just history—it’s symbolic. “The spirit of that time has been woven throughout Ketchum’s history.” And it’s not just about looking back. The event encourages younger generations to step into the story, ask questions, and see themselves as part of something bigger.

“What’s so exciting for the younger generation is the history itself,” says Deckard. “At its core, it’s a story of adventure. It is exciting, engaging, and naturally speaks to them.”

To support that natural curiosity, the event includes hands-on activities that encourage kids to participate rather than just watch. From horsemanship demos and pancake breakfasts to cultural showcases and fun surprises, Wagon Days helps the next generation experience the past as something alive.

While the event attracts new faces, it also depends on those who have made it a tradition for decades. Many of the “teamsters”—the families who bring their horse-drawn wagons to town—have been

“Wagon Days speaks to Ketchum’s eternal character, a character of grit, adventure, and community.”

part of Wagon Days for generations. Their dedication runs deep. “The stories that speak to me every year are from the teamsters,” Deckard says. “The people and families who bring their animals and wagons to be in the parade.”

For many of these families, modern machinery might be simpler. But simplicity isn’t the goal. Their passion is in maintaining the skills, tools, and values handed down through generations. In an age when non-motorized farming is nearly lost, their dedication feels both rare and sacred. Sons and daughters return year after year, even as their family structures change. Their presence isn’t just ceremonial; it’s a living tribute to resilience, craftsmanship, and continuity.

Wagon Days also owes its success to the unwavering support of the broader community—ranging from dedicated volunteers and participants to the collaboration of local businesses, Sun Valley Resort, and municipal partners, including the police and fire departments. Central to this success is the City of Ketchum,

which has played a key role in preserving Wagon Days as a beloved community tradition. “Wagon Days began as a grassroots celebration, the product of passionate volunteers, but events like this rarely endure without institutional support,” says Deckard. “In the late 1970s, the City of Ketchum had the foresight to formally adopt Wagon Days as part of its annual operations. That decision ensured not just its survival, but its growth into a defining part of our community’s history. For 68 years, it has remained a source of pride and connection for generations of Idahoans, thanks to the City’s continued stewardship and support.”

Being part of the Wood River Valley community focuses on more than just the place. It’s about who we are. And Wagon Days provides a yearly opportunity to openly celebrate that identity. 

HONORING THE STATE OF IDAHO

It’s often said that Sun Valley is the center of the universe, as the Wood River Valley community is naturally connected to many people across the country and abroad, especially for lovers of outdoor sports, activities, and mountains. Today, Sun Valley has another chance to reach the world by sea through the USS IDAHO (SSN 799), a Virginia Class, nuclear-powered, fast-attack submarine. The USS IDAHO (SSN 799) is the first U.S. Navy warship to carry the name in over 100 years since the battleship USS IDAHO (BB42) was christened in June 1917.

Under construction by General Dynamics/Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut, the USS IDAHO (SSN 799) is scheduled to be commissioned in April/May 2026 and can serve for up to 35 years, traveling the world’s oceans and pulling into numerous ports of call. Carrying Idaho’s name, foreign dignitaries and VIP guests will be invited to tour certain sections of the submarine. The submarine’s interior will feature Idaho scenes and sights, where Navy-trained galley specialists can offer a taste of Idaho, learned at the Sun Valley Culinary Institute last summer.

The Commissioning Committee will oversee the “habitability improvements” of the submarine’s common areas, including the ward room, crew mess, and berthing stations. “The plan is to decorate with Idaho-specific images and Idaho historic relics to connect the crew and the ship’s visitors to our great state,” indicates Commissioning Committee member William Potter. “In conjunction with the Navy, the commissioning committee will host receptions during the commissioning, which is expected to draw more than 1,000 attendees from Idaho. At the 2024 christening, there were only three individuals from Blaine County.

Left: Electric Boat workers and the future USS IDAHO (SSN 799) crew members stood below the submarine while it was under construction at Electric Boat shipyard in Groton, Connecticut.
Top: Navy crew members join Ship Sponsor, Terry Stackley at the USS IDAHO (SSN 799) christening.
Above: On June 21, 2024 the future USS IDAHO (SSN 799) rolled out of the hangar to the water.

Upcoming Commissioning Ceremonies

Those in Blaine County interested in supporting the crew and potentially attending unique dockside commissioning ceremonies in April or May 2026 should contact the USS Idaho Commissioning Committee. The Navy is expected to announce the ceremony dates this October.

Get aboard, Blaine County, and show your

According to Potter, “with additional awareness effort, Blaine County’s commissioning attendees’ number should grow as this is an exciting once-in-a-lifetime bucket list type event. Countywide, we will be building our awareness and development programs to support that and show the rest of the state that while we are only 24,000+ in number, we are enormously patriotic.”

The fifth ship named for Idaho, USS IDAHO (SSN 799) will eventually have about 120 enlisted personnel and 14 officers. The crew will be composed of both men and women across many ranks. Over the next 12 months, patriotic events supporting USS IDAHO (SSN 799) will be held not only to mark the U.S. Constitution’s 250th anniversary in 2026 but also to celebrate the commissioning when it will join a fleet of

25 other Virginia-class submarines. Currently SSN 799 is preparing for sea trials.

Besides our new submarine Idaho’s legacy of naval support and nuclear heritage is significant. Sun Valley was a Navy town from 1943 to 1946, when the Challenger Inn, now known as the Sun Valley Lodge, housed 1,500 Navy personnel who cared for more than 6,500 wounded Sailors and Marines. Some other interesting facts include Idaho being the birthplace of Naval Nuclear Propulsion, with the development and construction of the first submarine and first aircraft carrier nuclear propulsion plants. In addition, Idaho’s Lake Pend Oreille is home to the Navy’s leading underwater acoustic research and development laboratory making our submarine fleet the quietest in the world.

Having tangible signs of support from the namesake goes a long way toward the morale of the crew. In addition to the iconic scenes of Idaho on the submarine, the USS IDAHO Commissioning Committee has established the USS IDAHO Scholarship Endowment via the Dolphin Scholarship Foundation. Current and former crew members of the USS IDAHO (SSN 799) and their families will be eligible to apply for these scholarships for the next fifty years.

Christened on Saturday, March 16, 2024, the USS IDAHO (SSN 799), following a long-standing naval tradition, was officially launched by Ship Sponsor, Terry Stackley with a unique Idahoan touch: Instead of breaking a bottle of champagne on the hull, a bottle filled with carbonated water from four Idaho lakes—Lake Pend Oreille, Payette Lake, Henrys Lake, and Redfish Lake was successfully used. The next step involves sea trials to demonstrate the submarine’s capabilities, after which it will be handed over to the U.S. Navy in a private commissioning ceremony. From there the submarine will go wherever needed. 

VICTORY BELLES PERFORM IN THE WOOD RIVER VALLEY

To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, the Victory Belles will visit the Wood River Valley from the National World War II Museum in New Orleans. With their period costumes, old-fashioned glamour, and harmonies reminiscent of boogie-woogie and swing, the Victory Belles—an act from the Andrews Sisters era— reflect a time of national crisis but also unity, patriotism, and wholesomeness. Founded in 2009, the troupe has entertained not only museum visitors but also audiences across the country during their periodic road trips. The trio also plans to perform a few Idaho songs in support of the USS IDAHO (SSN 799) commissioning.

BELOW THE SURFACE

Join Monarch wellness and Jensen Stern jewelers for gem-healing events

Sun Valley is a place defined by what lies beneath the surface—in its mountains, in its history, and in the invisible currents running through every living thing.

We live on mineral-rich ground once tunneled and turned over by prospectors chasing glittering veins of silver and gold. We are, after all, the Gem State—a land shaped by forces deep within the earth, home to garnet, jasper, opal, quartz, and the rare star garnet, our state gem. These stones are more than geological curiosities; they’re physical echoes of the same energetic forces that pulse through our bodies and brains.

And that’s the thread we’re pulling this summer: that beneath beauty lies energy. Beneath color lies science. And beneath everything, a shared vibration connects us to the earth, to ourselves, and to each other.

This is the spirit behind a new collaboration between Monarch, Sun Valley’s premier wellness retreat, and Jensen Stern jewelers in Ketchum: a three-part event series designed to explore how minerals, color, and frequency tie the natural world to human well-being.

Because while it’s not all the same…it kind of is.

THE SCIENCE OF SPARKLE

Throughout history, humans have been drawn to stones—not just for their beauty, but for how they make us feel. There’s a reason we carry talismans or slip on gemstone rings before a big moment. Touching an object engages our proprioception—our brain’s map of the body—and can calm the sympathetic nervous system. It’s like anchoring yourself in the present moment, quite literally feeling grounded.

Color, too, goes deeper than aesthetics. Neuroscientists have shown that different hues activate distinct regions of the brain, influencing mood, alertness, even heart rate. The reds of the root chakra stir vitality and survival instincts; greens of the heart center open us to compassion and connection. These aren’t abstract ideas—they’re rooted in how our biology responds to wavelengths of light.

Monica Stevenson sifting in Tanzania

And gemstones? They’re nature’s perfect energy containers. Crystals form over eons under heat and pressure, organizing their atoms into precise, stable structures. Modern physics and energy medicine alike suggest these structures can hold and emit frequencies— tiny vibrations that might influence our biofields. It’s the same principle behind medical technologies like radiofrequency devices and pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy.

Even the earth hums with a measurable frequency—the Schumann Resonance—a rhythm some researchers believe affects our sleep cycles, mood, and health. It’s a reminder that everything vibrates, from the deepest rock strata to the neurons firing in our brains.

MINERALS AS MEDICINE

Minerals don’t just sparkle; they’re essential ingredients of life. Magnesium relaxes muscles and minds. Iron fuels oxygen transport. Zinc balances our immune systems. The same elements that make gemstones glimmer are coursing through our bloodstreams, building bone, transmitting nerve signals, and regulating hormones.

When we gather to explore minerals, we’re talking about more than jewelry. We’re talking about the architecture of the body—and the resonance of the spirit.

ALL CONNECTED

This event series is a celebration of connection—between nature and neurology, earth and body, beauty and science. Two local businesses coming together because it’s more fun to explore the universe in good company— and because the connections are too dazzling to ignore.

From savoring gemstone-inspired dishes to crafting a personal talisman, these experiences invite us all to look beneath the surface, where the real magic lies. 

SAWTOOTH MOUNTAIN RETREAT

A Basecamp for Adventure, Privacy, and Possibility

Now Offered for Sale | Stanley, Idaho—Custer County

In the heart of the Sawtooth Mountains, beneath the jagged silhouettes of the range itself, lies a valley defined by wildness and wonder. This is the Sawtooth Valley, a 756,000-acre protected expanse known as the Sawtooth National Recreation Area—and within it sits one of its most extraordinary private holdings: Sawtooth Mountain Retreat.

Located in Stanley, Idaho—where the Salmon River begins its legendary course through untamed terrain—this 604-acre property offers more than just land. It offers freedom. Space. And a front-row seat to one of the most iconic landscapes in the West. As naturalist John Muir once said, “In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.” That spirit is alive and well here—where nature leads, and your life follows.

A LAND THAT LEADS THE WAY

This property isn’t defined by architecture—it’s defined by opportunity. Over 1.5 miles of private Salmon River frontage winds through wide meadows and open space. Native grasses—

and Indian ricegrass—sway in the

Views of the Sawtooths dominate every horizon. And the silence, punctuated only by birdsong or the call of an elk, reminds you: this is a place to listen.

“This land has given us so much—space to breathe, time to think, and a deeper connection to the seasons,” say John and Kris Miller, the current owners. “Every single person who visits walks away feeling something shift.”

Whether you envision a seasonal outfitting base, a corporate team-building retreat, or a family compound for generations to come, this is your canvas.

AN ESTABLISHED FAMILY COMPOUND, READY FOR MORE

With essential infrastructure already in place—including roads, utilities, multiple structures, and water rights—the retreat is ready to grow with you. The existing compound includes a log-style main home, three private guest cabins, a caretaker’s apartment, and a 2,704-square-foot party barn crafted from reclaimed wood.

ROOTED IN HISTORY, PRESERVED BY PURPOSE:

Long before Stanley became a gateway for recreation and conservation, the Sawtooth Valley was home to Indigenous tribes, frontier miners, and early homesteaders drawn to its wild promise. Remnants of mining towns like the Vienna mines and Sawtooth City, along with ancient pictographs and historic ranger stations, still dot the landscape. Today, the region is protected as part of the 756,000-acre Sawtooth National Recreation Area— established in 1972 to safeguard its scenic beauty, wildlife, and rich cultural legacy for generations to come.

“This is one of the most thoughtfully developed mountain properties I’ve represented,” says listing agent Eeva Turzian of Sun Valley Real Estate. “It balances privacy with functionality and legacy with lifestyle. It’s rare to find something so wild, and yet so ready.”

A PRIVATE PLAYGROUND

FOR EVERY SEASON

This land is more than scenic—it’s wildly functional. Whether you’re tracking elk in the fall, flyfishing in summer, snowmobiling in winter, or simply enjoying the stillness of spring, it’s a yearround basecamp for adventure:

 Fish private trout ponds or cast into the legendary Salmon River

 Hunt big game in adjoining public lands

 Ride horses or mountain bikes for miles without interruption

 Over 120 trails for hiking and backpacking at your fingertips

 Paddle Alturas Lake just minutes away

 Snowshoe, snowmobile, or ski from your own doorstep

 Gather around the campfire or stargaze under unfiltered skies

 Fly-in access to Smiley Creek Airstrip, just five minutes away

And when the day winds down, retreat to your cabin, host a celebration in the party barn, or simply listen to the wind move through the grasses.

ONE OF THE LAST GREAT HOLDINGS IN THE WEST

This is more than a rare opportunity—it’s a disappearing one. In a valley where land is more often preserved than sold, this retreat stands out as a generational offering.

As Wallace Stegner once wrote, “We simply need that wild country available to us… For it can be a means of reassuring ourselves of our sanity as creatures, a part of the geography of hope.”

Sawtooth Mountain Retreat is your geography of hope. A place to gather, explore, and preserve. A property that offers not just unmatched access—but also privacy, possibility, and permanence.

INVESTING IN THE FUTURE OF MENTAL HEALTH

A community commitment

In the past year, a staggering one-third of Blaine County residents have reported needing mental health services, and 20 percent say they couldn’t get the help they needed. Other local data shows a higher-than-average suicide rate and a staggering number of depressed teenagers.

In response to the clear need for expanded mental health support, St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation (SLWRF) recently pledged an additional $4.43 million to the Blaine County Mental Well-Being Initiative (MWBI), reaffirming its commitment to transforming mental health care in the region. This four-year investment builds on the Foundation’s initial support in 2023 and will fund critical efforts through 2028 to develop an integrated, sustainable mental health ecosystem that improves the lives of everyone in Blaine County.

“This significant investment reflects the St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation’s continued faith in these collaborative efforts, which have brought together nearly 50 local organizations and entities to help address mental wellbeing in our community,” says SLWR Foundation Chief Development Officer Megan Tanous. “It’s a testament to our belief in the overwhelming importance of this work.”

The SLWR Foundation has long championed mental health in the Wood River Valley. Its early support helped establish the outpatient St. Luke’s Wood River Behavioral Health Clinic in 2013, and its ongoing leadership continues to shape the strategic direction of MWBI. “In a small community like ours, mental health issues affect everyone,” says SLWR Foundation Board President Pete Smith. “It is overwhelmingly clear—from community health assessments, rising emergency department admissions, physician concerns, and community feedback—that addressing mental wellbeing is an urgent priority. We at the St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation feel a deep responsibility to sustain this work.”

FROM VISION TO INFRASTRUCTURE

The Mental Well-Being Initiative is more than just a project—it’s a movement. It seeks to revitalize the entire spectrum of care, from prevention to intervention and treatment, and to generate largescale, systemic change. “This effort brings our entire community together to address mental health,” says Jenna Vagias, the initiative’s project director. “It is the largest collaboration in Blaine County’s history, with government, education, nonprofit, faith, health care, and business entities coming together to affect real change. This work is all about collective action for collective impact.”

At the center of the initiative is a strategic roadmap guided by data and shaped through extensive community input. Partners across sectors are aligning their work to meet the needs identified by residents—whether that means fostering stronger social connections, expanding mental health literacy, or building solutions to fill care gaps like crisis response. The plan is already translating into tangible progress: investments in Spanishlanguage counseling, the development of a crisis response system, a community-wide mental health training program, and increased psychiatric staffing through the St. Luke’s Health System.

A NEW NONPROFIT FOR LONG-TERM SUSTAINABILITY

One of the most transformative developments is the creation of a new nonprofit organization that will serve as the backbone infrastructure for the Mental Well-being Initiative. As Jenna explains, this organization will be the entity that “wakes up in the morning thinking about mental health,” ensuring the momentum around mental well-being doesn’t stall.

The organization will be uniquely positioned to identify and address gaps in the mental health system. “If there’s a major gap, there’s probably a reason it exists,” Vagias explains. “This nonprofit is designed to foster collaboration, drive creative solutions, and amplify investments so no one in our community slips through the cracks.”

BUILDING CONNECTION THROUGH TECHNOLOGY

One of the first major projects of the new nonprofit is the development of a collaborative Community WellBeing website. This platform will serve as a central hub for community connection and mental health resources,

SUICIDE RATE

Blaine County’s suicide rate was 36 deaths per 100,000 people in 2022 and 2024. National suicide rate in 2024 was 14.7 deaths per 100,000 people.

OVER 1/3 of Blaine County residents report having needed mental health services in the past year and of those, 20% say they couldn’t get the help they needed.

NEARLY 1 IN 3

ADULTS report feeling lonely in Blaine County, with higher rates among youth, Hispanic residents, and LGBTQ+ individuals.

events, and information—accessible to all and highlighting community partners’ offerings focused on mental wellness.

“It’s not just a static page,” says Vagias. “It’s a living, breathing community website where the focus is not on any one organization, but on mental well-being itself.” She likens the concept to a digital “farmers market” of resources: “The goal is to create a hub where visitors might come looking for one thing and leave with unexpected, yet vital, support. That’s the idea—we want people to discover resources and connections they didn’t even know were available.”

This digital hub will help reduce fragmentation, improve access to care, and foster a sense of community. It’s one of several initiatives supported by the SLWR Foundation’s latest gift, which also includes funding for a first responder peer support program, youth engagement efforts, and the groundwork for a future behavioral health center with crisis response services.

WHAT’S NEXT—AND HOW YOU CAN HELP

As MWBI enters this next phase, the focus is on sustainability, scalability, and deepening community engagement. As the initiative grows, so does the need for strong, diverse leadership. The new nonprofit will be forming a board that reflects the community it serves. “This is a community-wide initiative,” says Vagias. “It’s essential that the board represents this and we continue in the spirit of collaboration.”

The work ahead may not always be glamorous, but it is foundational. “A lot of what we’re doing right now isn’t flashy,” says Vagias. “But it’s the infrastructure that will make longterm impact possible.”

ST. LUKE’S WOOD RIVER ADDS PSYCHIATRISTS

St. Luke’s Wood River is excited to inform the community of two additional psychiatrists joining the Behavioral Health clinic this fall: Christopher Doxey, D.O., Ph.D. specializing in adult psychiatry and Katherine Quayle, MD specializing in child and adolescent psychiatry. Dr. Quayle may be familiar to many as she previously served our community as a pediatrician with St. Luke’s Wood River.

Dr. Maria Saiz Quintana, who is bilingual (English/Spanish), is continuing to serve the valley with in-person support, while Dr. Jones continues to support virtually.

68.5% say substance use has negatively impacted their lives, significantly above the national average.

NEARLY HALF the population in Blaine County reports poor mental health three or more days per month.

The initiative’s leaders are calling on the community to stay involved— by learning about the strategic roadmap and taking action where possible. That might mean attending an event or training, adopting practices that support your own mental health, reaching out to others to build connection, or offering your time, talents, or treasure to support the work. “This is a collective effort,” says Tanous. “And we need everyone to be part of it.”

With continued support from the SLWR Foundation and the broader community, the Mental Well-Being Initiative is poised to become a model for rural mental health transformation—one rooted in collaboration, compassion, and a shared commitment to well-being. 

CRISIS RESPONSE

Mental health crisis response is increasing over time as shown by 9-1-1 dispatch calls, SLWR mental health encounters, and SLWR ED admissions data.

SEVEN INDIVIDUALS

On average, the ED receives seven individuals in mental health crisis per month.

9-1-1 CALLS

On average, 9-1-1 dispatch responds to nine behavioral health crisis calls per month.

TURNING UP THE HEAT FOR HEALTH

Zenergy Himalayan salt sauna receives a renovation

As we age, staying healthy becomes increasingly essential , particularly if we wish to enjoy recreational sports and activities, maintain a fulfilling family life, and avoid longterm illnesses. Among Zenergy Health Club & Spa’s ongoing commitment to promote cutting-edge health and fitness, recent updates to the Club’s Himalayan salt saunas serve to provide another level of conscious, healthy living.

The benefits of the salt sauna at a glance:

SKIN STRENGTH

Zenergy’s Himalayan salt sauna combines heat therapy with the natural benefits of Himalayan salt, promoting relaxation and improving overall health and well-being. Spending time in the sauna can help reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and ease tension in a calming environment. Additionally, the sauna helps detoxify the body and rehydrate the skin, supporting overall detoxification and skin health.

WEIGHT LOSS

Regular sauna use is a great aid in weight management, boosting metabolism and helping the body burn more calories. Interestingly, the sauna also promotes better breathing by opening clear airways and reducing inflammation, which supports respiratory health and makes breathing easier.

MITOCHONDRIAL HEALTH

Another benefit of sauna sessions is their effect on mitochondria, which is directly connected to healthy aging. Mitochondria are the cellular structures in our bodies that generate about 90 percent of our internal energy and play a vital role in many cellular processes necessary for proper cell function. Research indicates that heat stress triggers beneficial adaptive responses in mitochondria, boosting natural repair and enhancing their function.

HEART HEALTH

Studies show that regular sauna bathing can improve endurance performance and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Saunas also enhance heart function and overall wellness, allowing blood vessels to expand. In addition, the process your body undergoes to adapt to the heat from a sauna can increase plasma volume and enhance your cardiorespiratory fitness—the ability of your circulatory and respiratory systems to deliver oxygen to your muscles, heart, and lungs during exercise.

TRAINING RESPONSES

Exposure to heat, whether it’s a sauna or hot tub, after a workout can also enhance the benefits of your training, showing improvements in maximum oxygen uptake (the amount of oxygen your body uses during exercise) and lactate threshold, which indicates how well someone can sustain high-intensity exercise over a long period.

BRAIN HEALTH

Regular sauna use can have positive effects on your brain, particularly important for preventive aging health. Research shows that sauna use can also potentially reduce your risk for some mental health disorders.

LOWERS RISK FOR DIABETES

Sauna use has also been credited with reducing the risk of diabetes. Heat exposure activates the body’s heat shock proteins, which also help regulate blood sugar level. Consistent sauna use is a simple way to help manage this widespread disease.

Spending time in the sauna can help reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and ease tension in a calming environment.

MUSCLE RECOVERY AND TENSION RELIEF

Preserving muscle mass and helping achieve fitness goals more quickly, reducing inflammation and easing muscular pain— these are all benefits of sauna bathing. Heat therapy can also help relieve pain caused by certain musculoskeletal disorders, such as arthritis, and alleviate muscle soreness as well as lower back pain. Heat in the form of a heat pack or bath is often touted as a tool for relief of muscle pain or soreness, so it makes sense for a sauna to have similar effects.

INCREASED ENDORPHINS

A sauna differs from a traditional sweat session at the gym because you’re not actively using your muscles like you would during a workout. But sauna use, when combined with a workout plan, can help you go harder for longer and recover faster than if you skipped the sauna.

STRESS RELIEF

Make time for the sauna, as it’s a great way to relax and unwind. Besides its many benefits, a sauna also offers a peaceful space for meditation that everyone can enjoy.

SUANA USE

If you’re new to the sauna, start with shorter sessions of about five minutes and gradually increase by a few minutes each time as your body gets used to it. Make sure to stay hydrated, and if you start feeling dizzy or lightheaded, get out immediately. For optimal results, aim for three to four sauna sessions per week, each lasting 15-20 minutes, allowing your body to fully benefit from the therapeutic effects of the heat. 

LONGEVITY WITH NEUROMUSCULAR ENGAGEMENT

DR. MOLLY BROWN ON

In the pursuit of longevity, many focus on clean eating, supplementation, and hormone optimization. While these are valuable pieces of the puzzle, they often overlook one of the most critical and most neurologically dynamic systems of the body: the neuromuscular system.

The muscular system enhances strength, balance, vitality, and cortisol regulation. Longevity isn’t just about adding years to life but about the quality of life. Mobility, coordination, strength, energy, and balance build confidence in your body, especially with an active lifestyle. An engaged neuromuscular system acts as the bridge between the brain’s ability to position your body in space and coordination, and the body’s strength and resilience. Without it, longevity is simply survival. With it, longevity becomes vitality.

The neuromuscular system is a complex network of neurons and muscle fibers that control every voluntary movement—from walking and lifting to balance and posture. It also functions as a communication loop that informs the brain about bodily position, tension, and motion. At CENTERED, we view the neuromuscular system as a dynamic interface: where the brain and body connect, and we see the muscles as the display units of the nervous system. Keeping this system activated, coordinated, and finely tuned is vital for maintaining not only physical function but also the brain’s own efficiency and adaptability over time.

Injuries, surgeries, and impacts or trauma that cause injury can result in muscular dysfunction, which in turn can weaken the system, reduce proprioception and balance, and cause chronic pain. However, this is not inevitable. There are solutions.

When the neuromuscular system becomes inhibited due to trauma, injury, nutritional deficiency, repetitive motion, or other factors, the entire brain-body feedback loop suffers. This results in muscular weakness, compensation by other engaged muscles, decreased movement, improper fascial hydration and mineralization, and ultimately instability and higher risk of injury. The final compensation of weakened muscles manifests in the bones, leading to weakened, damaged, or deformed bone.

Movement provides neurological stimulation, conveying information to the brain. Each time a muscle contracts, a proprioceptive signal is sent to the brain. This signal keeps the motor cortex active, the cerebellum calibrated, and the autonomic nervous system regulated.

The neuromuscular system is a complex network of neurons and muscle fibers that control every voluntary movement–from walking and lifting to balance and posture.

So, when muscles are tight and stiff, or when there’s a decreased range of motion, these are signs of inhibited muscles. This is where the AMIT method comes in—to re-engage injured muscles, correct imbalances, reduce pain, enhance tissue hydration and fluidity, and increase both strength and flexibility. When the body moves with stability and integrity, the brain stays clear and resilient.

At CENTERED, we rewire the brain-body-muscle connections using the AMIT method, which precisely corrects inhibited muscles. QNRT resets the neurological stress patterns that affect the endocrine and nervous systems, along with other regenerative therapies for mitochondrial health.

Most people aim for longevity by addressing symptoms of aging—we focus on improving brain health. When the neuromuscular system is active, coordinated, and resilient, the entire body becomes adaptable, intelligent, and vibrant. Longevity naturally results from living with purpose, movement, and alignment. 

LIVIN’ FOR THE SPIRIT

The Revivalists rev up Sun Valley

get ready for some revival in the mountains as RJK Entertainment and Sun Valley Resort present one of America’s most beloved live bands on Sun Valley’s Pavilion stage—The Revivalists. The eight-member collective bring their rocking live show to the venue on August 31, for what promises to be the biggest high-energy show of the summer and a great way to celebrate Labor Day Weekend.

“The Revivalists are one of those bands we’ve been trying to book for years, and finally, all the stars aligned!” says Ryan Kolquist, owner of RJK Entertainment, which has partnered with Sun Valley Resort for a decade, bringing unique and talented artists for exciting shows at Sun Valley. “On this same date ten years ago, we hosted our very first concert together, featuring Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real. What started as an idea has come full circle, and what better way to celebrate our tenth anniversary than with The Revivalists live at Sun Valley Pavilion.”

The band has evolved from small marathon gigs to sold-out shows at iconic venues like Radio City Music Hall and Red Rocks Amphitheatre, staying true to their performance motto—‘10 or 10,000.’ They’ve opened for The Rolling Stones twice and have played at major festivals such as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Governors Ball, and New Orleans Jazz Fest. After their 2018 album, Take Good Care, which included two #1 Adult Alternative hits, “Change” and “All My Friends” (also a Top 5 Alternative hit), their total streams surpassed half a billion—a rare milestone for a rock band of any era.

Along the way, the musicians—David Shaw (lead vocals, guitar), Zack Feinberg (guitar), Andrew Campanelli (drums), George Gekas (bass), Ed Williams (pedal steel guitar), Rob Ingraham (saxophone), Michael Girardot (keyboard, trumpet), and PJ Howard (drums, percussion)—never lost sight of where they come from.

The Revivalists formed when drummer Andrew Campanelli met Zack Feinberg at a drum clinic at Tipitina’s in New Orleans. Soon after, Feinberg, who was a Tulane student at the time, rode his bike down a different street than usual and heard David Shaw playing guitar and singing on his front porch. Shaw had recently moved to New Orleans from Ohio. Feinberg stopped to listen, and the two struck up a conversation that led to a friendship, which, along with Campanelli, eventually resulted in the formation of the eight-member band.

Seventeen years into their impressive career, they released their most passionate and powerful material yet in their fifth fulllength album, *Pour It Out Into the Night *. It’s a life-affirming record about living in the moment, driven by lessons in gratitude and realizations about life. Feinberg explains, “The title, like many of the songs, is about unburdening—whatever it is, get it off your chest and don’t worry about the mess. Let it go, share it—you have to keep moving forward.” Feinberg and Shaw co-wrote much of the album. Regarding the lead single, “Kid,” Feinberg states, “It was a huge song for me personally. It’s a hopeful song. I had just found out my wife was pregnant with twins weeks before. It was also the first writing session that David and I had done since the pandemic started.”

The Revivalists’ musicianship is outstanding. Still, managing eight personalities is a challenge, but they all get along, and the chemistry shows, creating something greater than they expected. Feinberg says, “It’s challenging to navigate sometimes, but it’s the challenge that is our strength. Everybody’s talents combined are really quite a powerful

ensemble, and David is just a dynamic, magnetic front person. We balance the rock tradition, but also, we have this singersongwriter strain, and both of those are well represented in our live show and on our records as well.”

Additionally, Rev Cause, established by The Revivalists in 2019, receives $1 for every ticket sold, supporting the vital work of organizations committed to reviving and investing in communities, our health, and our environment. 

Inaugural Valley Music Festival brings country sounds to Champion Meadows

MOUNTAIN MUSIC

This September, a new three-day musical spectacular enters the scene: The Valley Music Festival, September 4-6, at Champions Meadow (former Festival Meadows) in Sun Valley. With more than 50 acts traveling from as near as Ketchum and as far as Australia, the sounds and styles on the stage will range from country and folk to bluegrass, red dirt, Americana, and alternative.

Organized by Fin n’ Fir Productions, the multi-day event is open to all ages (with kids under two getting in free with an adult ticket) and aims to offer a good time. Behind Fin n’ Fir are Levi and Olivia Donahue, who came up with the idea. Levi grew up in Mackay, where his family has run “Idaho’s Wildest Rodeo” for the past dozen years.

“We were sitting in our first meeting about the rodeo, asking: How can we get more people here?” Levi remembers. “I said people love music, so we should do a concert. Everyone agreed and said, ‘Do that.’”

Levi didn’t know anything about putting on such a production, but he began talking to friends and emailing booking agencies about getting their artists to Idaho.

“One of my good friends loved Shane Smith & The Saints and told me we had to get them here,” he says. “So, I reached out, got a quick response from their team, booked them for that year along with the Black Lillies out of Knoxville, and we put on a two-day concert in Mackay.”

The event changed Levi’s outlook. “I’ve always loved music,” he says. “It’s something I’ve always found solace in. But after putting on that first concert, I really fell in love with it. It was fun to be around the artists and see the excitement in people’s faces when they got up on stage and started playing. I wanted to pursue it more and more.”

Since moving to the Wood River Valley a few years ago, the Donahues have wanted to achieve something bigger. They began imagining a festival-style event that would bring more artists and fans together in a place they love. A year ago, they started developing a plan, and this September, they’re excited to welcome music lovers of all stripes and ages to the first event.

The festival opens on Thursday, September 4, featuring the sounds of Idaho country rocker Jeff Crosby, Kenny Feidler’s gritty country rock, and the heartfelt Idaho roots of EllieMae.

With more than 50 acts traveling from as near as Ketchum and as far as Australia, the sounds and styles on the stage will range from country and folk to bluegrass, red dirt, Americana, and alternative.

Opening night’s headliner, Bayker Blankenship, is a rising Tennessee country star known for his hit single, “Maxed Out,” and for blending traditional country with pop influences. Friday afternoon and evening feature country acts from Southall to Joe Jordan, along with rock performers Them Dirty Roses and Americana singer/songwriter Aaron Golay. Closing out day two is Josh Meloy from Oklahoma, recognized for his live ballad performances indistinguishable from their studio sound. The final day’s lineup includes The Lowdown Drifters, blues and gospel-inspired Kirk House, and Raina Wallace, who describes herself as if “Dolly Parton grew up listening to The Clash.”

Saturday’s closing headliner, Shane Smith & The Saints—one of the bands who began it all for Levi Donahue—bring their slide guitar, Appalachian fiddle, and sharp storytelling back from

Aaron Golay

Austin. Local acts include the Pisten Bullys, Moonshine Schubert, and Hart Gibson, while other groups will travel from around Idaho, such as the Heath Owens Band (Twin Falls), Ozzie Higley (Malad City), Corey James Grubb (Mountain Home), and Neil Elder (Salmon).

“We have some great local and regional bands, up-and-coming kids,” says Levi. “Idaho’s such a small music scene, and we wanted these bands to get out here and showcase their sounds.”

For alternative music lovers, indie pop band Wild Child and Dexter and the Moonrocks, self-labeled as Western Space Grunge, round out the performers list. The former is “more soft-tempo vibe,” says Levi, while the latter is “more like a rock n’ roll, emo band. You can’t place them in a box.”

For those who enjoy classical country, Australia’s Wade Forster may be a surprise. “He has an amazing country sound,” Levi says, “which many people haven’t seen come from somewhere else.” He adds, “It’s a really fun blend of artists coming. There’s going to be something for everybody,” says Levi. “Even my three-year-old daughter will be there. She loves Bayker Blankenship and Hayden Blount. This was all a family thing to start with, so everybody can come out and have fun.”

Ultimately, it’s all about the music Levi says, “We just want to let people enjoy good music and a good time. Especially in Sun Valley. I mean, how do you get more beautiful than that?” 

Mending Across Borders & Boundaries

Using the idea of mending—both metaphorical and literal—to consider multiple questions. What is it to live in two cultures or between two cultures postmigration? How can migration be both a moment of rupture and one of healing? What is the possibility of repairing landscapes and environments harmed by human activity? Artist Maria de Los Angeles, Assistant Director of Painting and Printmaking at Yale School of Art, visited the Wood River Valley in August 2024 and led public workshops as part of the creation of new work for the exhibition, which will include paintings, prints, and a wearable sculpture—a dress that celebrates biculturalism while recognizing the challenges it presents. ARTIMMERSION

Tour Wood River Valley artists’ studios

Forty artists throughout the Wood River Valley will open their studios to art lovers, collectors, and anyone interested in how professional artists create and work.

Over three days, from Friday, August 22, to Sunday, August 24, visitors can meet artists, see their work, and purchase original art pieces from the Artists Studio Tour of the Wood River Valley.

“An intimate art experience of the Wood River Valley,” the studio tour brings many people together, and the amount of

work is remarkable. This tour includes only 40 working artists who live and work in the Valley, which is home to many more, including both established and emerging artists.

The variety of creativity showcased at this year’s Studio Tour is clear in the wide range of artworks, including paintings, photography, drawings, pottery, baskets, jewelry, printmaking, leather goods, metal items, wood pieces, and more.

In the following pages, SVPN Magazine features a selection of artists who will open their studios during this year’s tour.

““As an artist I believe that structure, color, and emotional impact are the key factors in a successful work of art.

The hard decision making in the studio should result, if a painting is to be successful, in a cohesive visual sensation that demands more than one viewing, whether the work is representational, abstract, or just lush texture and color.”

“ ”“My long immersion in Japanese aesthetics guides me as I work intuitively, following a path of discovery. Within Zen design, the circle or Enso represents enlightenment, as it is both bounded and boundless. Its edges are organic and irregular in form, symbolizing the imperfection that is part of existence.”

““I create Texas longhorn and bison skull art and bold, elegant jewelry. Skulls are adorned with dried and pressed flowers and leaves.”

““Composite photography has captured my soul. I enjoy taking parts of a photo and combining them with other images to create a completely new piece of art. It’s fun to make these composite images, as each one is unique. In addition to composite work, I love transforming ordinary scenes into extraordinary images through intentional camera movement and multiple exposures. I am inspired by the impressionists of the late 19th century and the abstract expressionists of the mid-20th century. Their work is filled with emotion, and I hope my work strikes a chord with viewers. The more painterly my works look, the happier I am.”

““My first notable painting was when I was nine years old. Since then, I have continued creating artwork using various art mediums: pencil sketches, ink drawings, watercolors, colored pencils, and plenty of doodling. My interest in art and my career as a landscape architect have been very complementary. Often, I have used colored pencils, watercolors, and soft pastels to create presentation drawings for client review. For the past 12 years, my hobby has been painting landscapes with soft pastels.”

“I am creative and experimental and enjoy making art passionately. I work in oil and watercolor and use molding and carving techniques to create works that are unique, harmonious and provocative.”

““In 1973, while living in Washington, D.C., and working on Capitol Hill, I decided to try stringing together natural items I had collected. Shells, stones, beads, trinkets—nothing was spared from my creative ‘concoctions.’ My first necklace was bought by a coworker on Senator Jim McClure’s staff, much to my surprise! The exhilarating feeling that came when he told me how much his wife loved it has never left me… Fifty-two years later, I’m still amazed by that uplifting feeling of decorating (mostly) women! That’s how I became an (accidental) naturalist/artist…”

Peacock Pearl by Christina Healy

“A continuous theme in my work is humans’ paralyzing influence on the natural world. My dead bird pastels are my homage to the disappearance of migrating birds. It is a wake-up call that while we continue our everyday lives, the birds and nature are continually suffering. My question is always, what will it take for humans to realize the interconnectedness of all things? As we work and we play, and we sleep and we wake, the birds are dying. There is never a shortage of these beautiful beings passing because it is continually a process of destruction that we refuse to acknowledge.”

Soul of Sparrow by Bex Wilkinson acrylic on canvas

““My pottery story began in high school, where I first discovered the magic of clay on the wheel. Life pulled me away from it for a while, but 30 years later, a dear childhood friend suggested we start pottery classes together at a local studio in western Pennsylvania. Reconnecting with clay was transformative, and I quickly set up my home studio to keep creating. Today, I’m deeply inspired by the beauty of slab pottery, where both beginners and seasoned artists can craft expressive, striking pieces. Plates and platters that stack from large to small are some of my favorite items to make and teach.”

““My jewelry creations reflect my rural Arkansas childhood. I toddled along after my relatives, absorbing their deep love for gardening and plants. My mother, who brooked no impediment, improvised food, decorating projects, and prom decorations. She is the reason I am an artist, a creator. I blend traditional metalsmithing methods with non-traditional metal clay techniques, showcasing textures and forms inspired by the plant kingdom. I work in silver and bronze, set with gemstones.”

Bird migration is one of nature’s most extraordinary phenomena—a rhythmic, seasonal voyage across continents that sustains biodiversity and ecosystems. In recent years, the very patterns that have guided these journeys for millennia are being disrupted. Habitat loss, climate change, and increasing urbanization are placing migratory species under immense stress. This is not just a biological or environmental issue—it is a human one. It challenges us to rethink our relationship with the natural world and compels us to act as stewards rather than spectators.

Bex Wilkinson invites you to come view her ongoing body of work “Dead Birds” in which she’s documented the beauty of fallen angels from over 10 different species. This body of work does not only illustrate facts; it evokes empathy, invites reflection, and communicates truths that transcend language. bexwilkinsonart@gmail.com

PATTERNED MEMORY

Dana Hart-Stone’s Americana

Dana Hart-Stone’s exhibition Americana features digital paintings composed of repurposed vintage photographs. Each piece is formed through carefully selected snapshots, rhythmically laid out in repetitive patterns. From the stillness of the past, Hart-Stone creates movement; from forgotten memories, he builds an informed narrative of the American West. Anonymous figures are reanimated as unseen architects of a shared cultural legacy.

When asked about how the work evolves, Hart-Stone explains, “Appropriating vernacular photographs, in a sense, rescued images of people who I suspected were long gone from our collective visual knowledge. Out of sight, out of mind […] I realized that all the images I was collecting, studying, and appropriating were first-hand records of instances of American life. I found authenticity and honesty in snapshots taken of Americans by Americans.”

Growing up in northeastern Montana, Hart-Stone’s creative voice emerged. In the relics found at abandoned homesteads, a narrative began to take shape. His rectangular work is cinematic, borrowing splices of still images, while the tondo paintings emerge as mandalas.

The strips of photographs that comprise the piece Pinstripes are reminiscent of cinematic film splices, providing a formal structure. A snapshot taken out of context becomes a fragment of an image—a slice of reality, a piece of a story. In the vertical stripes that make up the work, there is an echo of the structure and purpose of film strips. From afar, the

stripes suggest faded cloth or a quilt woven from worn denim or repurposed rags. As one approaches, details emerge: a man in uniform crouched in front of his car, the image repeated and mirrored in a soft, denim blue. The colors are washed out, as though sun-bleached by time, echoing the life lived within them. Each strip reveals a fragment of Americana, created car by car, fish by fish, moment by moment.

As the work evolved, Hart-Stone began to unearth his visual memories. Film strips give way to meditative circles. In his tondo, Fisherwoman, he brings a sense of humor to the onceabundant bounty of western rivers. Kaleidoscopic patterns emerge in the same way a toy View-Master reveals threedimensional monuments. With flashes of women smiling with their catch and fish arranged intricately at the center, a forgotten narrative begins to form. He explains:

“When I started to make works about fishing, I realized that the bounty of fish caught was different from present-day catches. As time and recreation would have it […] in the streams and rivers where I used to fish, it’s hard to […] pull out the grand size of trout found in the vintage photographs I’ve collected.”

“I found authenticity and honesty in snapshots taken of Americans by Americans.”

The visual vocabulary used in the circular canvases draws on Hart-Stone’s lived experience and memory. One pivotal moment occurred during a high school basketball tournament in his hometown of Culbertson, Montana. At age six or seven, he was mesmerized not only by the lines of the court but also by an unexpected act of gift-giving. After the final game: “Onto the basketball court walked nine Native American women, each carrying a folded gifting star quilt […] Seeing nine beautiful star quilts displayed on the basketball court was a remarkable sight I have never forgotten.” The contrast between the court’s painted lines and the intricate patterns of the quilts is echoed in each circular painting.

It is hard to fully explain the impact of Dana Hart-Stone’s work because the details need to be seen in person. The textures he creates using still images and meticulous pattern-making defy simple description. Hart-Stone works as both archaeologist and archivist, exposing the forgotten authors of the American spirit. 

The Kneeland Gallery’s 34th Annual Plein Air Exhibition featuring the gallery’s premier plein air painters: Steven Lee Adams, Jack Braman, Shanna Kunz, Lori McNee, Robert Moore, Silas Thompson, Ovanes Berberian, and Bart Walker, from August 4 to 8. “En plein air” is a French expression meaning “in the open air” and refers to the act of painting outdoors with the artist’s subject in full view. Plein air artists capture the spirit and essence of a landscape or subject by incorporating natural light, color, and movement into their works.

Dana Hart-Stone Americana

Dana Hart-Stone’s digital paintings are rooted in a deep engagement with the historical and cultural fabric of the American West. His early experiences exploring abandoned homesteads in eastern Montana fostered a fascination with the fragmented narratives of settler life and the broader, often obscured, histories of the American frontier. These formative encounters continue to inform his work, now expressed through meticulously composed digital paintings constructed from vintage photographs.

Hart-Stone’s large-scale compositions serve as visual archives— dense with symbolic and documentary resonance. Seen from afar, his works read as woven tapestries, unified by rhythm, texture, and repetition. Yet as viewers draw closer, intimate narratives begin to

unfold with striking clarity: a man proudly displaying his catch of the day, an oarsman rowing through a stream, a gold miner with a kettle in one hand and pan in the other, a rooster, a horse, a vintage car. Each image speaks of a time, a place, and a life lived—often remembered only in fragments.

By recontextualizing vernacular imagery, Hart-Stone investigates intersecting themes of race, gender, sexual identity, class, and socioeconomic struggle. His work reframes collective memory, offering a nuanced perspective on the individuals and communities that shaped the American landscape. Through this lens, he invites critical reflection on the narratives that dominate national identity, creating space for voices historically marginalized or overlooked.

Steve Wrubel Rodeo Series

Captivated by the American West, photographer Steve Wrubel has dedicated his lens to the rodeo ring since 2019. These images capture a split second between the rider and the animal, showing the power and stamina of both athletes. The rodeo is a way of life largely untouched by modernity. Like the cowboys he follows, Wrubel values the skill and connection it takes to work with animals and land. Both seek to tame the wild, if only for a few fleeting seconds. Through these moments, Steve captures the raw beauty of the American West—an image of both artistry and enduring spirit.

The Unbroken Project

Gilman Contemporary is excited to introduce the work of Felipe Jácome, an Ecuadorian photographer and storyteller. The Unbroken Project is a collaboration with Ukrainian photographer and dancer Svitlana Onipko. The series captures members of the Ukrainian National Ballet mid-dance. These photographs are printed directly onto bullet casings. This powerful work weaves together the physical and emotional toll of war with the enduring strength of those who continue to create amid destruction. A portion of all proceeds from the project is being donated to the relief and recovery efforts in Ukraine.

Contemporary Icons Meet the New West: Spotlight on Four Visionaries

Broschofsky Galleries is proud to present a bold curatorial focus on four influential artists redefining the boundaries of Western and contemporary art: Kollabs, David Yarrow, Billy Schenck, and Andy Warhol.

Kollabs

A fresh force in the art world, Kollabs fuses pop art, graffiti, and cultural nostalgia into layered visual conversations. With a process rooted in screen printing, collage, and reappropriated iconography, their work pulses with energy, wit, and social commentary.

David Yarrow

One of the most collected fine art photographers working today, David Yarrow captures the untamed beauty and mythology of the American West through cinematic composition and unmatched intimacy. His large-scale photographs, often featuring dramatic wildlife or staged narratives, continue to resonate with collectors worldwide.

Billy Schenck

A founding voice of Western Pop, Schenck draws from Spaghetti Western film stills and classical compositions to create sharply graphic, stylized narratives. His art captures the mythic and ironic in equal measure—with saturated palettes, cowboys, and confrontational stillness at the forefront.

Andy Warhol

As an enduring symbol of American pop culture, Andy Warhol’s presence at Broschofsky Galleries bridges historical context with contemporary relevance. His Western-themed prints— including depictions of Native American figures and frontier icons—offer a rare look into Warhol’s fascination with myth and identity in the American West.

Benjamin Langford

Scenes and Images

August 8-September 19

OCHI is pleased to present Scenes and Images, an exhibition of new works by New York-based artist Benjamin Langford. This marks Langford’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. Scenes and Images will be on view at OCHI, located at 119 Lewis Street in Ketchum, Idaho, from August 8 to September 19, 2025.

In Scenes and Images, Langford presents a body of work that hybridizes painting and photography to explore the idea of nature after the death of nature. The artist’s photographs— ranging from dioramas and zoos to arboretums and butterfly pavilions—serve as the basis for the paintings on view. Reflecting on constructed environments shaped by our idealized projections, Langford reveals vestigial fantasies of the natural world.

In his analytic and anthropologicallycharged landscapes, Langford references the romanticism of the Hudson River School and the soft-focus mystique of pictorialist photography. In works like Twilight (2024), the grand pastoral view recedes like a theatrical backdrop, while tangled branches overtake the foreground—a reversal of the classic frontier gaze, where the sublime is now elusive, distant, and inaccessible. Utilizing photographs, printed on canvas to serve as underpaintings, Langford paints into the landscapes, muddying the fidelity of these idyll worlds.

Beneath the beauty of these constructions lies a quiet mourning—for the loss of unfiltered connection and the erosion of awe in a world increasingly flattened by mediation. Yet the works resist cynicism, seeking to re-enchant, to reclaim feeling even within the artificial. They suggest that even illusions can offer moments of truth—and that wonder, though transformed, is still within reach.

Joseph Rossano Of Water

Joseph Rossano’s Of Water exhibition will feature an installation of mirrored salmon-like forms, hand-blown from molten glass, as well as paintings in graphite on panel that will include salmon, trout, and other riparian wildlife. Photography of salmon roe and rivers in the Sawtooth National Forest by Laura McPhee and paintings by additional artists will round out the exhibition.

An installation of over 100 salmon-like forms will suspend from the gallery’s 24-foot ceiling and form a salmon ball that viewers can walk within and around. These mirrored hand-blown sculptures suggest a ghost-like migration, capturing the fragility and resilience of wild salmon. Both elegant and reverent, the installation provides a space for meditation on this fragile ecosystem.

This salmon immersion experience originated with a Salmon School exhibition that took place at the Bellevue Arts Museum in Washington State. Displayed at eye level, the installation reflected the population of native wild salmon in the Skagit River, flowing into Puget Sound, north of Seattle. The installation at Gail Severn Gallery will be a smaller replica of the Salmon School exhibition that was featured at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington, in 2021.

Anne Siems

Fox and Friends

In her solo exhibition, Fox and Friends, Anne Siems invites us into a delicately rendered world, populated by enigmatic figures, curated objects, spectral animals, and intricate natural forms. Children are the main characters, and animals play an important role as companions, co-conspirators, protectors, and sometimes alter egos. Siems creates these liminal spaces that transcend time by placing nostalgic items in otherworldly environments, invoking a dreamlike quality to her work. She offers the viewer an opportunity to meditate on inner life and gain an understanding of how memories and imagination shape our understanding of self and the world around us.

Japanese American artist Jun Kaneko transcends the boundaries of traditional ceramics, exploring the relationship between volume and space, surface and atmosphere. Born in Nagoya, Japan, Kaneko has pursued a dynamic studio practice since the 1960s. The artist studied under Peter Voulkos and other artists associated with the California Clay Movement, a seminal period in the history of ceramics where a handful of imaginative artists expanded the boundaries of the medium in both scale and form, elevating ceramic sculpture from craft into the sphere of fine art. His largescale ceramics are adorned with expressive glazes and intricate designs inspired by Japanese calligraphy, encouraging viewers to reflect on stillness, repetition, and rhythm. Many of Kaneko’s pieces are suited to be displayed outside in a garden setting, bringing color and form into nature.

Sarah Bird Bright Shades

July 29 - August 23

Opening night reception with Sarah Bird August 8, 5-7:30pm

Hemmings Gallery is pleased to present Bright Shades, a solo exhibition by Sarah Bird, which is a collection of oil paintings referring to a type of haunting of the bright, a sense of the yin-yang nature of things.

Drawing on techniques from a background in realism but referencing the warped perspectives of Flemish Primitive paintings, Bird weaves landscape and still life painting together to create selfdetermined worlds.

“Painting is about the human mind and what our attention reveals about our character and our values,” she says. “I like a painting that doesn’t stay in the bounds of realism like Morris Graves, Gertrude Abercrombie, Leonora Carrington, and Frida Kahlo.”

Layering and rearranging motifs from the history of Western oil painting, Bird uses an old language to depict her contemporary life. Making reference to the surreal twists of Bosch, van Eyck and other Flemish Primitives, her paintings “weird” the landscape, often forefronting humble personal objects like seashells, feathers, and fruit set against deep mystifying horizons.

In her studio, there may be a few items on display from which she works, but the actual painting lives in her mind, and the result is pure imagination.

“My process is a lot like collage,” says Bird. “I paint without much planning and let my instincts guide my decisions. It’s not always efficient. Often, objects that I spent a lot of time on are edited out of the work and buried under the paint.” She adds, “Living in the West has informed much of my work. My first desire was to be a landscape painter, and I think that although I rarely paint outside now, I’m still driven by that elusive idea of ‘sense of place.’”

PIONEER SALOON

Walking into the Pioneer Saloon in Ketchum is like greeting an old friend. It’s often the first stop for locals coming home or visitors starting a memorable vacation. For more than 50 years, the Pioneer has been welcoming its loyal customers with a warm and cozy atmosphere that feels more like someone’s home than a restaurant. Renowned for perfectly aged and flavorful beef, many varieties of seafood, fresh Idaho rainbow trout, and Northwest regional specials, the Pioneer is much more than a steakhouse. Unique and historic western art fills the bar and restaurant, reminiscent of earlier days when pioneers settled in this valley. Authentic and genuine friendly service from familiar faces will make you feel as though you have arrived home when you walk in the door. As the locals say, “If you haven’t been to the Pioneer Saloon, you haven’t been to Ketchum.”

THE SAWTOOTH CLUB

Always busy with a fun mix of locals and visitors alike, The Sawtooth Club has been downtown Ketchum’s most beloved destination for dining and cocktails since the days when Ernest Hemingway himself was a regular there. Nowadays, the place is more popular than ever with an inspired menu offering a mouthwatering blend of creative small plates to share, grilled steaks, chops and ribs, healthy vegetarian dishes, fresh seafood, unique pasta bowls, nightly specials and much more.

In the bar enjoy handcrafted cocktails, 16 wines by the glass, and 12 ice-cold craft brews on tap. Dinner offerings this season include fresh Idaho trout, filet mignon, linguine with clams, chicken Senegalese, rack of lamb, grilled ribeye steak, Manchester Farms quail, butternut squash ravioli, barbeque baby back ribs, vegan sesame noodle bowl, Waygu beef meatloaf, New Orleans shellfish pasta, smoked beef brisket, fresh steamer clams, seared ahi salad, awesome burgers and sandwiches, to name just a few.

Much of our grilling is done over a live mesquite-wood fire. We do not use processed charcoal or wood chips, only authentic mesquite logs from Texas. This method of natural wood cooking generates the intense heat that sears in the flavorful juices and imparts a variety of subtle tastes and aromas to meat, poultry, and seafood.

An award-winning wine list complements the wonderful food, and summer evenings on the outdoor terrace are not to be missed. One visit and you’ll know why The Sawtooth Club has repeatedly been voted the “Valley’s Best Overall Restaurant and The Valley’s Best Bar!”
