My Two Cents on Entrepreneurship

Did you know, based on the latest U.S. data, approximately 40% of all businesses in the United States are women-owned? In recent years, the number of successful women-owned businesses has drastically increased – and that number won’t decline anytime soon.

Our Women-Owned Businesses special feature story is a testament to the accomplishments of our community, and is how we celebrate female success. We love to highlight local women who take risks and act as role models in our community. They deserve recognition!

As a female entrepreneur myself, it’s incredible to see the diverse perspectives and unique ideas that surround me morph into female entrepreneurship that has an impactful voice. With the number of women-owned businesses growing in our community as well as everywhere else in the world, our voices will continue to be heard. We have so much to bring to the table and I am so proud of all the women on this business journey with me! We have come a long way, and still have a long way to go. Let’s keep pushing and keep succeeding!

It takes courage to start your own business venture without knowing how successful it will be. No matter what industry you are entering, what age you start your business at or what gender you are, I am proud of you for taking the leap into entrepreneurship. Nothing makes me happier than seeing our local businesses succeed, and I hope Strictly Business can be part of your journey to success!

One of my favorite quotes relating to entrepreneurship is by Martha Stewart. She once said, “Build your business success around something that you love – something that is inherently and endlessly interesting to you.” I love the reminder to keep pushing because it’s something that I want to do and something that I love to do. I think that all entrepreneurs should love what they do, and I think that the most successful ones are the ones that wake up excited to build their business. As Albert Schweitzer said, "Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful."

One final component to success that I want you to think about is the importance of your business team for the success of your business. As business owners, we lean on and rely on our team to be successful (and sane), which is why I like to surround myself with a trusted, loyal team that believes in my business just as much as I do.

This month, in addition to highlighting female entrepreneurs, we are shifting our focus towards the holiday season – particularly holiday party planning for businesses. Building a business is hard work, both for the entrepreneur and their employees. What better way to celebrate the hard work you’ve done than by throwing a holiday party? Holiday parties are great ways for employees to connect, let loose and have fun, while also supporting other local businesses throughout the party journey. It’s a great way to end the year on a high note!

Top Cybersecurity Threats and Solutions in 2023

As daily headlines validate, cybercrime is exploding – and so are its impacts. According to Cybersecurity Ventures, the cost of cybercrime is predicted to hit $8 trillion in 2023 and grow to $10.5 trillion by 2025.

As they say, it’s not a matter of if, but when your company will be attacked. To help you mount a better defense, we’ve identified 2023’s top cybersecurity threats and solutions.

Top Cybersecurity Threats

1. Evolving Exploits - Cybercriminals are savvy, and so is their technology. Their exploits have grown in sophistication and now include social engineering, business email compromise, ransomware, supply chain attacks, Internet of Things (IoT) and AI threats, deep fakes and synthetic identity fraud.

2. Rise in Remote and Mobile Work - The sharp increase in remote and mobile work has done wonders for productivity and business continuity, but it’s also expanded the attack surface to include every mobile device.

3. Insider Threats - Whether malicious, compromised or simply negligent, employees are a growing cybersecurity risk. According to a Ponemon Institute 2022 report, insider threat incidents have risen 44 percent over the past two years.

4. Incr eased IoT and Cloud Use - Advances in technology like IoT and cloud-based infrastructure and applications make it easier for businesses to operate but also increase the number of connections on the corporate network that cybercriminals may compromise.

5. Growing Cybersecurity Skills Gaps - The increase in volume and sophistication of cyberthreats is putting a strain on IT teams, who are struggling to keep up. And it shows no signs of abating; the number of unfilled cybersecurity jobs will reach 3.5 million by 2025.

Top Cybersecurity Solutions

1. AI-Driven Detection and Response - Fighting fire with fire, businesses are flocking to AI-driven security tools to supplement skills gaps and augment IT team efforts. AI tools can boost network visibility and threat detection to speed up response and mitigation efforts.

2. Zero Trust Network Access - Networks are employing zero trust network access grant unverified access to no one. This model enables you to segregate data and applications, giving rights to specific users on specific applications or networks.

3. Security Awareness Training - Businesses are enlisting employees in the fight against cyberthreats by educating them about how they can help reduce vulnerabilities. Gamification is increasing training engagement and retention.

4. Cyber Resilience Solutions - Businesses are responding to the likelihood of a cyberattack with a focus on resilience. Cyber resilience combines cybersecurity protection and detection with backup and disaster recovery solutions and plans.

5. O utsourced Managed Cybersecurity - Many businesses are tackling the cybersecurity challenge by enlisting managed cybersecurity service providers for their expertise, 24/7 oversight and ability to free up the IT team to focus on other projects and priorities.

Technology innovation enables businesses to deliver incredible products and exceptional customer experiences. The downside is that bad actors can exploit it. You don’t have to fight them alone.

Four of those hairstylists reached their goals and were rewarded with a trip to New York to attend an exclusive class taught by a Platinum Goldwell Educator at the New York Academy on September 17. Tori Nichole Photography Recaps International Wedding Photography for Andrew and Sara Van Es

Tori Nichole Photography performed an international wedding photoshoot for Andrew and Sara Van Es August 16 at Sandals Southcoast in Whitehouse, Jamaica, and couldn’t be happier with the results.

The couple had originally just scheduled an engagement session with Owner Tori Hughes. After their engagement session downtown, they loved their images so much, and the connection they had built with Tori, that Sara requested Tori tag along and fly to Jamaica to photograph their wedding. Sara was overjoyed when Tori responded that she would absolutely love to join them and photograph their special day. When they got down to the logistics, Sara shared her entire photography vision with Tori, and they made it a complete reality. It was absolutely beautiful.

“What is especially awesome about this is that Sara and Andrew wanted to elope (mostly) for the stress free aspect – a day about being truly happy and present, and not about all the “typical” wedding series of events,” shared Tori. “I do see couples get caught up in the planning and the stress of trying to please everyone. An elopement really does eliminate that. The couple can truly focus on each other. How beautiful it was to witness Sara and Andrew concentrate on one another, with no stress, and in an absolutely stunning location. The imagery displays just that; they were grinning ear to ear and so profoundly intentional.”

Tori Hughes is the Owner and Founder of Tori Nichole Photography; an Omaha, Nebraska-based, award-winning and international photography company that uses imagery to tell a story. Tori specializes in photographing couples, weddings, families, births, newborns and more. For more information, visit www.torinicholephotography.com.

Strictly Business is thrilled to announce that their 11th annual Party in the Garden Fundraiser, which was held on September 8, set a new gross record by raising more than $30,000 for Domesti-PUPS! The event was a great success – attendance was high and there were many amazing local businesses that showed their support through sponsorships, donations and volunteering.

CORE SERVICES COMMISSIONING

Meet Nikki Klugh, Founder and Principal Designer at Nikki Klugh Design Group, Inc.

Tell us a little about your business. - I have always been interested in science. As a matter of fact, my first career path was going to be engineering. The combination of science and creativity allows me to provide a whole new perspective on interior design.

Nikki Klugh Design Group transforms ordinary spaces into Sacred Spaces. By integrating the science behind our senses and color theory to create spaces, I create spaces that are the perfect jumping off point for my clients to start their day or relax after a long day.

I have trademarked “Designing to the Senses,” which tunes in to the senses my clients favor most and allows me to add design elements based on that information. On top of that I am a color theory expert, which allows me to use color to evoke certain feelings in my client’s spaces.

How did you get started in the business? - I have been designing since I was a little girl. My mom needed a creative outlet after working her full-time job, so we became Weekend Warriors. Every weekend we would try to transform pieces of our home and make them beautiful.

The only thing is, I didn’t realize that designing was a profession. When I was growing up, I didn’t see a lot of interior designers period, let alone ones that looked like me. This made me choose another path, until I realized after the birth of my second son that design is a career option.

With my husband being a doctor in the Navy, we were constantly on the move, and I found myself having to redesign every home that we moved, manage being a mother of four sons, and meet new people in every new city. It made me realize that I can design a variety of different homes, manage projects, and people, and gain new clientele in a variety of cities. That’s when Nikki Klugh Design Group was born!

What has been your most important achievement professionally? - In 2016, I set a goal to gross a million dollars in annual revenue and in 2022 I achieved that goal! This goal was not just for myself or my company. I set this goal to create jobs, build an enterprise, build up my community and give myself the opportunity to donate to charities that mean something to me.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - I am a daredevil. I absolutely love adventure!

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - “We shape our buildings and afterward our buildings shape us.” – Winston Churchill.

What is your favorite local Omaha restaurant? - V. Mertz is my favorite restaurant because the cuisine is consistently delicious, the service is excellent and the environment is intimate and upscale.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? - If I could have dinner with one famous person I would dine with Angela Bassett. She is such a classy lady and I’d love to hear her wisdom and life experiences.

Shae Withington STRICTLY BUSINESS

Meet Shae Withington, Writer and Editor at Strictly Business.

Tell us a little about your business. - Strictly Business is a local news and direct marketing magazine in Omaha and Lincoln. We are all about branding names and faces because people like to do business with people they know, like and trust. We are proud of our reputation as a reliable and positive publication and grateful for the opportunity to promote so many amazing local businesses and organizations in print and online each month.

How did you get started in the business? - I’ve always had a passion for reading and writing. I went to college with the goal of becoming an editor at some point in my life, and was also hoping to do some professional journalism as well. With my education and experience being in English and marketing, I was so excited to start working for Strictly Business where I can utilize most of my skills and have my hands in a variety of tasks.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?Being so young, I have struggled to be seen as a professional and am grateful to Paige for giving me the opportunity to thrive here at Strictly Business. My age doesn’t define my capabilities!

Tell us a little about your family. - I grew up in Colorado where my dad farms and ranches and my mom works for the local electric cooperative. My older brother currently lives in Arizona. Growing up a ways outside of town, my brother and I kept each other company and got into all kinds of trouble playing together. We cause less trouble now that we are older and live far away from each other, but definitely still have some pretty interesting conversations.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - I have two cats that I try to devote a good chunk of my free time to. Whether playing or cuddling, they are good company on days off. I also enjoy outdoor activities such as walks and golf, reading and yoga.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - I tend to get stressed fairly easily. The best advice I’ve received, and something I’m working on, is to not stress about things that are out of my control. Everything will work out in the end and that’s all that matters. Even if the journey is bumpy, everything will be okay and I’ll walk away with new knowledge and experience that I can apply later on in life.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? - “Mended” by Matthew West.

Giving Back to our Communities

For Tommy’s Express Car Wash, it’s about enriching lives and adding value. One of their main goals as a company is to serve communities. At every location, Tommy’s Express team members serve at the window, inside the wash tunnel and outside in the vacuum bays, helping guests receive the best possible experience. Collectively and in cities around the country, Tommy’s Express franchise owners and operators partner with local organizations to give back, helping local communities however they are able.

Because Tommy’s Express Car Wash is dedicated to making our world a better place to live, they consistently give back in every way they can. For every car washed, Tommy’s Express donates to Water Mission, which works closely with others to develop mutually beneficial relationships that include fundraising campaigns, piloting new ideas,

co-branding merchandise, creating media and crafting experiences that make an impact all around the world.

The global water crisis is a serious issue that becomes more and more devastating with each day that passes. Access to clean water is essential for everyone’s well-being, but clean water isn’t accessible for everyone. Nearly one million people die each year due to contaminated drinking water, while runoff and overuse damage our local water resources. It doesn’t matter where you live – the water crisis affects every community.

Tommy’s Express partners with organizations like Water Mission to Enrich Lives and Add Value to communities all over the globe.

At every Tommy’s Express location, they use advanced water reclamation technology to safely clean vehicles using less than 30 gallons of fresh water per car. Not only do they strive for efficient water usage, but to still give you the quality car wash you deserve.

Commercials and Phone Calls and Mailings, Oh My!

Have you seen those commercials from actors (or an ex-football player that used to pose in pantyhose) telling you to call right now to make sure you’re not missing any benefits? Have you received a phone call from someone claiming they’re from Medicare? Have enough mail to cover up Dorothy’s yellow brick road?

The most important part of being a Medicare beneficiary is making sure that you are covering the gaps in original Medicare, based on your medical and financial situation. Make sure that you understand the differences and associated costs between the two options for coverage:

1) Medicare Supplement/Medigap + Drug Plan (Part D) + Dental Plan + Vision Plan

2) Medicare Advantage (Part C).

Here are three questions I get asked the most regarding these commercials and phone calls:

Q: Am I missing out on extra benefits?

A: Original Medicare does not offer extra benefits like some Medicare Advantage plans. Some have extra benefits for those that financially qualify. Some have benefits to help people with chronic health conditions. Some Medicare Advantage plans may also offer extra benefits for plan members after a hospital or skilled nursing facility stay without limiting that benefit to people with chronic conditions. (See CMS Your Medicare Benefits)

Q: Do I need Part C?

A: Medicare Advantage plans are also known as Part C. You cannot have both a Medicare Supplement/Medigap plan and a Drug Plan (Part D) and a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C).

Q: I got a phone call from Medicare/Social Security/My Pharmacy…

A: Anytime someone claims they’re from Medicare or Social Security, it’s a scam. NEVER give out your Medicare number or Social Security number to them. If you get a phone call saying it’s your pharmacy, tell them that you’ll call them back and then look the number up and call.

If you are being harassed by phone calls, there are some things that you can do to fight back. First, file your phone number on www. donotcall.gov and second, report the phone calls. Each time someone calls you after your number is registered, they can receive a $10,000 fine from the Federal Communications Commission, even if they’re calling from overseas.

Regarding those commercials, please be advised that if you call that 800 number, you might be giving multiple call centers permission to contact you, and your registration in www.donotcall.gov will not apply.

The annual election period is October 17 through December 7. You should review your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) letter with your local, trusted, licensed, independent insurance agent/broker. There is no charge for their services, and you won’t find a better price by trying to navigate it on your own, nor by trying to see the Wizard of Oz.

Mary Hiatt is President of Mary the Medicare Lady (A nongovernment entity.) See www.hiattagency.com or email mary@ hiattagency.com or call or text (402) 672-9449 for more information.

We do not offer every plan available in your area. Currently we represent 15 organizations which offer 92 products in your area. Please contact Medicare.gov, 1-800-MEDICARE, or your local State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) to get information on all of your options.

Register for the One Walk today at walk.jdrf.org/ omaha! JDRF gratefully acknowledges 2023 JDRF One Walk Chair, Brian Schenk and Presenting Sponsor, Dormie Network.

The One Walk aims to raise awareness for T1D and to fundraise to accelerate T1D research breakthroughs to cure, treat and prevent T1D and its complications. Questions about this event including sponsorship opportunities can be directed to Luci Foster, Development Manager, at (402) 651-6507 / lfoster@jdrf.org.

T1D is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly. It has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. If you have T1D, your pancreas stops producing insulin – a hormone essential to turning food into energy. This means you must constantly monitor your bloodsugar level, inject or infuse insulin from a pump and carefully monitor your eating and activity every single day.

JDRF has a mission to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications. They do this by funding innovative research, advocating for government action and providing a support structure for our community. For more information, please visit jdrf.org/nebraskaiowa.

HPlanning

The holidays will be here before you know it. Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner and pose the perfect opportunities to host holiday parties. Business parties are a must around the holidays. To ensure your employees and clients have a great time, start planning now!

Where should you host the party? What food will you provide? Will there be gifts? Let the local professionals of Omaha help you with it all!

Elevate Your Holiday Floral Experience

When it comes to selecting the perfect florist for your holiday needs, our top recommendation is none other than the Florist of Omaha. At the helm of this distinguished establishment stands Dr. Vernetta Kosalka, an acclaimed hospitality professional who specializes in event planning, event design, floral artistry and the education of future hospitality leaders in Omaha.

"When you choose to explore the world of blooms with us, we embark on a journey to fully grasp your vision," Dr. Vernetta affirms. "Our team of dedicated artisans possesses an exceptional talent that continually evolves through the pursuit of innovative floral designs. Expect nothing short of exceptional customer service and an unwavering commitment to precision when you engage with us. We pledge to provide professional,

warm and attentive service, ensuring that our clients depart feeling that their celebrations have been exquisitely catered to."

Dr. Vernetta also offers valuable advice for those seeking to elevate their holiday celebrations through floral arrangements and event planning. She strongly advocates for early planning, citing a multitude of compelling reasons. Early planning affords you the opportunity to secure the specific flowers and foliage that align with your desired theme or color scheme – a pivotal consideration for creating a truly enchanting ambiance. Given the heightened demand for seasonal blossoms during the holiday season, early planning ensures the availability of these coveted botanical treasures.

Furthermore, Dr. Vernetta underscores the importance of granting florists ample time to meticulously craft and assemble your floral displays. This extra time investment results in arrangements that are not only breathtaking but also longer-lasting, allowing your holiday festivities to flourish with an enduring natural splendor.

A Unique Gift

The gift of safety extends far beyond material possessions. It embodies the act of providing security, protection and peace of mind to someone, whether that someone be a loved one, a friend or a coworker. The gift of safety can take various forms, such as providing a safe home, ensuring access to healthcare, offering a secure location or, as D.E. Guns prefers it, the protection of a firearm backed by classes teaching you how to best use it for your safety as well as the safety of others.

D.E. Guns offers several classes that introduce people to self-defense, handgun operation and safety and concealed carry. If you know someone that is interested in using firearms for protection, paying for one of these classes as a gift could prove to be invaluable. Plus, you won’t have to worry about your gift being a surprise – no one is going to guess this!

Creating Memories

Getting together with loved ones to celebrate the holidays is one of the best gifts one could ask for. That being said, the memories you make at holiday parties are ones that you’ll want to reflect back upon throughout the year and your life. Photos are invaluable for capturing the essence of a holiday party, preserving cherished memories that can be revisited and shared for years to come. They freeze moments of joy, laughter and togetherness, allowing us to reminisce about the people we shared the celebration with and the festive atmosphere that surrounded us. FotoFunSpot has the perfect inventory of photo-capturing technologies to make your event memorable and extremely fun. FotoFunSpot provides premium attended and unattended photo booth services that can create entertaining, unique and memorable experiences. They offer a variety of different photo booth options, including OMAHA360booth, Roaming Photo Booth and their latest addition, Tilly, a vintage camper turned photo booth! Plus, they offer a print for every single person in the photo, for every photo. FotoFunSpot also provides a variety of backdrops to match the theme of your holiday party in addition to templates for photo strips.

“Imagine having just completed the most epic poses with your coworkers, and your photo booth attendant hands the six of you two little blurry photo strips to share,” said Mitch Miller, Owner. “That will never be FotoFunSpot! Every person in the picture gets their own copy. As long as people keep taking pictures, we will keep on making prints for each person in it.”

These snapshots are delightful party favors that leave guests with tangible tokens of their participation and a lasting connection to the event.

The Gift of a Clean Car

Gifting a car wash for the holidays can be a thoughtful and practical gesture. During the festive season, people often have a lot on their plate, and finding time for car maintenance is challenging. By giving the gift of a car wash, you're offering a service that helps the recipient keep their vehicle clean and well-maintained, saving them time and effort. We don’t know about you, but this sounds like a great gift for your busy boss.

Keeping your vehicle clean both inside and out isn’t easy, but it will feel that way with Tommy’s Express Car Wash. With various wash options available, you can choose what will work best for the lifestyle of who you are gifting a wash to, or for you if you are wanting to roll up to the holiday party in style. In addition to their world class automated exterior car wash, they'll keep your vehicle's interior cleaner than ever with their brand new detail kits, vacuums and mat washers. Their developments in wash products and technology keep them at the forefront of innovation, giving them an edge over competitors. If you’re going to clean your car, or someone else’s, we recommend using Tommy’s Express to get it done right.

Planning a holiday party involves a series of thoughtful steps aimed at creating a festive and memorable event. Though planning an unforgettable party can be stressful, the professionals of Omaha are here to help you every step of the way.

A Place of Respite

Interior design goes beyond mere aesthetics; it plays a fundamental role in shaping our living and working environments to enhance our overall well-being and functionality. A thoughtfully designed interior can impact our mood, productivity and even our relationships by fostering an atmosphere that resonates with our needs and preferences. Whether it's a home, office or any other space, interior design ensures that the layout, colors, furniture and lighting come together to create an environment that serves its purpose effectively and contributes to our overall quality of life.

When it comes to interior design and personal taste, some aesthetics can be overwhelmingly pricy. To make your interior vision come to life within your budget, you’ll need strategic planning and resourcefulness, as well as a professional that has years of experience by your side. One such professional that comes highly recommended is Nikki Klugh, Founder and Principal Designer of Nikki Klugh Design Group

“We have 20 years of experience working with contractors and conveying our client's vision. Our design experience and project management skills not only save our client from making costly mistakes during their renovation, but also saves them from the frustration that may come with vendor communication. To top it off, our network of contractors, trade partners and material vendors provide us with special pricing just for our clients,” shared Nikki.

Those at Nikki Klugh Design Group have learned that you never know what is on the horizon, and big life changes often come with their own unique design needs. To accommodate those ever-changing needs, Nikki Klugh Design Group helps you achieve an attractive and well-designed interior without overspending.

Saving Time – Saving Money

Everyone knows how messy the remodeling process can be, not to mention the natural effects of time on the tile, grout and caulking. Whether at home or at the office, cleaning on your hands and knees with a toothbrush isn’t fun – let alone the most effective and efficient way to clean. Rather than giving it your best to see moderate results, let The Grout Medic help give years of life back to your space.

Though you might be on the fence about hiring cleaners, your time is valuable. By letting The Grout Medic help, you can dedicate your time elsewhere while knowing that you are getting the most out of every penny you are spending. With over 30 years of experience, you can count on The Grout Medic to deliver nothing less than unrivaled, spectacular results.

The Grout Medic is the nation’s leading provider of maintaining existing tile installations. They steam clean showers, tile and grout and replace caulk in counters and showers. The Grout Medic can replace broken tiles, repair water-damaged shower walls and change grout colors by color sealing. Their goal is to service and maintain your showers, floors, backsplashes and fireplaces, or anywhere else you have tile, grout or caulking.

Custom Updates

How great would it be to have your remodeling project customcreated for your home or office? Unlike standard or generic home renovations, custom remodeling is designed to meet your specific needs, preferences and lifestyle. It involves working closely with a professional designer or contractor to create a unique and bespoke design that caters to your individual requirements. This level of customization may require a higher budget and more time compared to standard remodeling projects, but it offers the advantage of getting only the best, and an experience and new look unique to your home or office. At Incontro Closets & Cabinetry, a custom manufacturer that makes everything in Omaha, they know how important it is to have a space that is purely your own in every way.

Office Remodeling

Building owners must be flexible with their expectations, budgets and design choices when remodeling their structure, especially with the current standing of the economy. Intermittent supply chain issues are still a factor as is the increased cost of labor and materials. The changing availability of materials coupled with the tight labor market means costs can be unpredictable, which extends project durations and increases budgets. Before starting a remodeling project, it is in your best interest to ask lots of questions and plan for the unexpected.

By having alternative options ready to go for clients, who must also be able to make decisions quickly to eliminate any potential impact to their budget and schedule, AOI is able to provide cost assurance, speed and schedule reliability.

“AOI is unique because of what we offer with regard to interior renovation. Our ability to meet client needs stems from our products and services being available individually or combined as part of a holistic approach developed in close collaboration with our clients and their design teams,” shared Vice President of Business Development Patrick Jensen.

Having a great office space is important for employee happiness and productivity. A well-designed and comfortable office environment fosters creativity, collaboration and innovation among employees, leading to increased efficiency and quality of work. It serves as the reflection of a company’s culture and values, which helps attract and retain top talent.

Residential and Commercial Repurposing

Repurposing space in your home is a great way to optimize your living space. For instance, converting an underused bedroom or nook into a home office allows for increased productivity and focus, especially in today's remote work era. Alternatively, transforming an entryway into a mudroom not only keeps clutter at bay but also adds an organized and welcoming touch to your home. Utilizing the often-neglected space under the stairs for storage or a cozy reading corner adds both functionality and charm. Combining a guest room and playroom is an ingenious way to maximize limited space, offering flexibility for both guests and family. Lastly, finishing and repurposing an attic or basement can unlock entirely new realms of living space, whether as a home gym, entertainment hub or additional storage.

With so many unique ways to repurpose space, Pitzl Contracting is helping homeowners and business owners alike get the most out of their remodeling. Though primarily focusing on the exterior of the home, Pitzl Contracting is finding that prepping the exterior is helping customers save money and time as they navigate ever-changing weather. Pitzl’s current services range from concrete removal, concrete repair, driveways, patios, garage floors, pool decks, sidewalks and pathways, concrete slabs and flatwork, parking lots, stamped and stained concrete and steps for commercial and residential services. By streamlining driveways and parking lots, as well as the pathways to get to them from the corresponding buildings, Ptizl Contracting is able

to help clients have an aesthetically pleasing space that is efficient for traveling from one place to another in all weather conditions.

Pitzl Contracting cares about their clients, including the safety and satisfaction associated with their work. According to Owner Joe Pitzl, “Part of working with the Pitzl ‘family’ is being treated like a member of our family. We will care for you as if you are one of us.”

Remodeling your home offers a host of advantages. It’s a chance to customize your living space, aligning it with your unique tastes and lifestyle for improved comfort, aesthetics and functionality. Simultaneously, renovations can boost your property’s value in ways that save you money both short- and long-term. By incorporating energy-efficient upgrades, you can save on long-term utility costs. Plus, it provides an opportunity to address maintenance and safety concerns. On a more aesthetic note, remodeling breathes fresh life into your home, making you fall in love with it all over again. Regardless of what your goal with remodeling is, there are plenty of benefits that will stem from it along the way.

Whole Health W

hole body and mind health encompasses a wide variety of activities that help you find balance in your work, social and private life. To achieve balance in life, start by identifying your priorities and setting realistic goals. Is it more important to dedicate time to family and friends, to your hobbies and passions or to your career? How much time can you devote to each before you become overwhelmed?

While finding a balance that meets your needs mentally, remember that it is also important to meet your physical needs. Make sure to nourish your body with healthy foods, stay active with regular exercise and rest when you need to recharge. Managing stress is also key, so it is important to find healthy ways to relax and unwind.

Finding a balance in your life that benefits your whole body and mind health isn’t something that happens overnight, nor is it something you can achieve alone. Holistic health looks different for everyone, and the key is finding what it looks like for you. Don’t be afraid to reach out for help on your journey. Whether talking with friends and family or the local professionals here in Omaha, everyone has your best interest in mind.

Creating Lasting Change

The goal of whole body and mind health is to better life in the long run, to create lasting change that benefits us long after we start our holistic health journey. One business that understands how important lasting effects are is Waybridge Ketamine Clinics – a healing-oriented business taking an integrative approach to mind and body health with a strong belief in treating the human spirit.

“As a Navy Veteran deployed to Afghanistan with a Shock Trauma Platoon, I saw firsthand the importance of evidence based, compassionate care and the benefits of ketamine in the acute setting,” shared Medical Director Leslie Koenig, MD. “We have the science proving the effectiveness of off label use of ketamine IV, and we combine that with mind body practices, aromatherapy, lifestyle advice and healing presence in our setting for optimal effects.”

Seeking a board certification in Integrative Medicine while offering cutting edge medical therapy for the treatment of depression, anxiety, PTSD and chronic pain, Waybridge Ketamine Clinics goes the extra mile in making their patients feel safe and secure – something we all want when seeking emotional, mental and physical balance. Bringing their heart and wisdom into patient care, they aim to be the change Nebraska needs in mental health.

Improving mental health care and support is an ongoing process. One barrier to mental health care is the stigma associated with it. Changing societal attitudes and increasing awareness can help encourage more people to seek help without the fear of judgment – prioritizing your health is important and there shouldn’t be repercussions for doing so. As more and more people prioritize their mental health, there is a greater need for access to mental health services including affordable and accessible therapy, counseling and other forms of care. There is also a need for continued research into mental health treatments and medications that can lead to more effective interventions and therapies. As mental health awareness gains traction, our local community as well as countless others will see a shift in the care and support that is available, and the difference that care and support will make in the lives of community members.

Nutritious Habits

A healthy diet forms the foundation for overall well-being. Proper nutrition provides the body with essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals needed for optimal physical functioning, boosting the immune system and reducing the risk of chronic diseases. Beyond physical health, a balanced diet influences mental and emotional well-being by supporting cognitive function and mood stability. It fosters energy, vitality and an active lifestyle, contributing to a sense of fulfillment and happiness. Additionally, a nutritious diet encourages mindful eating practices, nurturing a positive relationship with food and promoting mental clarity.

Clean Eatz, a business offering healthy meals for your lifestyle, strives to change lives through clean, balanced food, thought-provoking education and motivational support that inspires results. They are more than just a restaurant that offers healthy food. Nutrition and personal wellness isn’t one-size-fits-all, and Clean Eatz recognizes the need for nutritional products and fitness opportunities that align with various lifestyles and personal needs. Their various services include: weekly meal plans, a dine-in cafe, healthy catering, grab ‘n’ go meals and snacks and smoothies.

Rather than just promoting a healthy, nutritious lifestyle, those working at Clean Eatz lead by example. Their individual follow-through is what they consider to be the greatest value they bring to the mission of holistic health.

Mental Priorities

At Clearwater Counseling, PC, they know that mental health is just as important as physical health. Mental health forms the foundation for physical, emotional and social health. A healthy mind is essential for coping with life’s challenges, maintaining positive relationships and achieving personal and professional goals. Mental well-being influences every aspect of our lives, from our decision-making and problem-solving abilities to our emotional resilience and capacity for joy. When mental health is prioritized, it can lead to improved physical health, better stress management and enhanced relationships.

“Most people experience mental health struggles at some point in their life. Mental health battles vary from anxieties, behavioral, life transitions, depression and stress, all of which can affect our mood, thoughts and behaviors,” shared Owner Kayla Leddy. “Those who seek therapy are looking for clarity in certain areas of their life. They are also wanting to work through complex emotions or even a traumatic experience. Helping these people get back to a healthy mindset is extremely important.”

Clearwater Counseling, PC is committed to making a difference in the way our community approaches mental health and the stigma around getting help. Their experienced and compassionate team of professionals work with clients to evaluate and treat a variety of mental health diagnoses so that they can live happier, fuller lives.

Stretch it Out

When your body feels at its best, the benefits are endless. Stretch Zone Omaha knows that better than anyone. At Stretch Zone, their ideology of “the stretch” helps anyone looking to become their healthiest version of themselves, prevent injuries or improve recovery and performance.

While traditional stretching methods attempt to make you more “flexible,” Stretch Zone works to adjust the stretch reflex, gradually increasing your active range of motion to slow down the aging process. Regular stretching exercises help improve joint mobility, reduce muscle tension and enhance the range of motion in our muscles and joints. This not only aids in preventing injuries during physical activities, but also supports proper posture and reduces the risk of chronic musculoskeletal issues.

Day to day activity can have a bigger effect on your body than you realize. Even just sitting at a desk all day can affect your posture and energy, and cause back, neck and shoulder pain as a result. Committing to regaining your body's intended range of motion is an important step towards being the best version of yourself. Many of Stretch Zone’s clients find extra motivation to eat better and incorporate exercise into their daily lives as they progress through stretching protocols. When you move better, you feel better. When you feel better, you want to do more.

Beyond physical benefits, stretching promotes relaxation, reduces stress and can have a positive impact on mental well-being by encouraging mindfulness and reducing muscle-related discomfort. Incorporating stretching into your daily routine is a simple yet effective way to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle, enhancing your physical and mental vitality.

Whole body and mind health is a lifelong journey that involves making conscious choices to promote physical, mental and emotional well-being. It requires you to be in-tune with yourself. Consulting with healthcare professionals and mental health experts when needed and to tailor strategies to your individual needs and circumstances will help you prioritize holistic health, leading to a more fulfilling and balanced life.

Remember, each person's path is unique, and it’s up to you to start carving it. Don’t hesitate to reach out to the local professionals for help along the way – they want to see you stop surviving and start thriving!

Imagine if you could do hundreds or even thousands of handwritten cards in a matter of days instead of weeks (or months). That’s exactly what GhostHandwriter can do and is the first to offer this in Nebraska.

Using a unique handwriting writing machine paired with dynamic software, GhostHandwriter writes letters and cards that are indistinguishable from human handwriting. Unlike the other “handwritten” mailers you’ve probably seen, these machines are holding actual ballpoint pens and have pressure settings that mimic human handwriting.

Plus, each letter and envelope can be personalized to each recipient with any variables you choose. For instance, you could accomplish your entire batch of wedding thank you cards by simply sending a spreadsheet with names, addresses and the gift given and the machine will automatically replace those fields in each thank you card.

There are endless ways businesses and nonprofits can use this service including lead generation, requesting online reviews, fundraising/ gala campaigns, client happy birthday cards and infinitely more. We know that with a 99% open rate, too, that your letter will likely not be tossed away like flyers or ignored like emails.

GhostHandwriter is an effective way to reach your audience and accomplish your business goals. Learn more at GhostHandwriter.com.

Mary Hiatt, President of Mary the Medicare Lady, was recently laughing over lunch with a colleague about how women used to have to wear dresses, pantyhose and high heels to work or risk getting sent home. On her first phone call in her first outside sales job, the prospect said that he wouldn’t meet with her because he “didn’t believe in women working outside of the home.” She made a mental note to not do business with that company and went on to become a nationwide award-winning sales manager.

Mary had a lifetime of experiences leading up to founding Mary the Medicare Lady. She has met challenges beyond work attire requirements and enjoyed success in a variety of careers and business ownership. She feels that is because she is authentic, and her clients know that she truly cares about them.

In 1996 when Moore’s Concrete Construction, Inc. was co-founded by Barbara Moore, the construction industry was viewed as a man’s career. Women represented just 9.9% of the total industry workforce and primarily as office staff. Her first commercial project walk thru/estimating experience showed her that women needed to be taken seriously and have more representation in the industry. She is ACI (American Concrete Institute) certified as a concrete flatwork technician.

Data from 2021 on the concrete specialty trade is that women represented 7.6% of estimators/project managers. “I am happy to see that women are making such strides in the industry. I am so proud to say that I am a woman working in construction and hopefully am seen as an example for other women who want to pursue a career in the trades.”

As October 1 approaches, Duryea Strategic Marketing proudly celebrates its remarkable journey, marking a decade of excellence in the marketing industry. Founded by Cheri Duryea McPherson, this agency was born out of a commitment to prioritize clients as partners rather than mere customers. A decade ago, when faced with the closure of the agency she worked for, Cheri embarked on a mission to preserve these valued relationships and continue to help her clients achieve their goals by establishing Duryea Strategic Marketing.

In 2019, the agency expanded its horizons by acquiring Canary and Coal, a complementary agency led by a close friend. This strategic merger brought together the best of both worlds, combining traditional advertising expertise, media buying and direct mail from Duryea with Canary and Coal’s prowess in social media, public relations and digital marketing. Today, while operating under both names, the agency’s commitment to delivering comprehensive marketing strategies remains unwavering.

Duryea Strategic Marketing continues to be defined by its dedication to its clients, ensuring their triumph in an ever-evolving marketing landscape. To learn more about their services, visit duryeastartegicmarketing.com or canaryandcoal.com. Join them in celebrating a decade of partnerships.
