Omaha healthcare company Fusion is being recognized for two major projects unveiled in 2023: their new brand launch and the interior design at their new headquarters. These recognitions speak to the creativity and innovation of Fusion’s in-house marketing department.

Fusion’s recent rebranding of several business units earned both a silver Creative Nebraska award and a Graphic Design USA Award. In late 2023, after a multi-year effort, Fusion unveiled a new parent brand and two rebranded business units through an integrated campaign using email, social media, print and promotion and paid digital marketing efforts. Fusion partnered with Signal Theory to execute the rebranding of each business unit.

The environmental graphics at Fusion’s new headquarters also earned a silver Creative Nebraska award. Brought to life with the help of RDG Planning and Design and Renze, they seamlessly integrate into the new brand identity. The finished designed spaces represent a journey that encapsulates exactly what makes Fusion special: a dynamic culture and a visionary outlook.

“Our team demonstrated exceptional creativity and innovation throughout these processes,” said Tara Sprakel, Chief Marketing Officer. “They set an incredibly high standard for themselves, and you can see that carried throughout every aspect of the brand campaign and the environmental graphics. I’m so proud of their work, and I know Fusion team members and travelers are equally as excited about our new look.”

CHRISTINE

Christine Allen

UNITED WAY OF THE MIDLANDS

Meet Christine Allen, Program Manager for the Court Referral Community Service Program (CRCSP) at United Way of the Midlands.

Tell us a little about your business. - I assign and monitor community service hours for people who have been court ordered to complete them in Douglas County. This includes people on probation, people who have been referred by their attorney and those who have been approved for the Offender Work Program. The Offender Work Program allows people to do community service hours to “work off” the cost of a fine.

How did you get started in the business? - My background, experience and education are all in the criminal justice and counseling areas. I am a former probation officer, former victim advocate for sexual assault and domestic violence survivors, and immediately prior to this position – I worked at the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services at the Omaha Correctional Center. I am also a part-time mental health therapist.

When I saw this position, it was an opportunity to use my cumulative experience, training and education.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?Removing society’s stigma of the population I work with.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? - Completing my bachelor’s and master’s degrees while working full time and raising two children.

Tell us a little about your family. - I am married in a blended family. Christopher, Kaitlin and Easton are my adult children. Jessica (Nate) and Jeremy are my adult stepchildren. I married into grandkids and we have a total of six grandchildren, (four boys and two girls) and one great grandchild (girl).

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - Going back to school, for my bachelor’s degree at age 40.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - Spending time with family and friends and/or watching the grandkids’ sports activities.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - I received the John Philip Sousa and National School Choral awards, a music scholarship and performed in a traveling chorale group.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - United Way of the Midlands – I enjoy volunteering with my husband for UWM’s activities in the community.

The Collective for Hope – When my oldest child passed away, we didn’t have these types of services available in our rural community. After we moved and became aware of them, I trained with them as a grief facilitator. This has helped me help others deal with their grief and enabled me to heal, as well.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? - John Maxwell.

If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? - (402) 522-7932 | callen@uwmidlands.org | UnitedWayMidlands. org/crcsp

CRAIG

Meet Craig Broadstone, owner of Omaha Remodeling Associates and Guardian First Defense.

Tell us a little about your business. - With Omaha Remodeling Associates we are a full service residential builder/remodeler. In our recent history we have done a great deal of commercial remodeling, finishing and build outs as well but most recently business has lead us to residential kitchen & bath remodels. A true passion for me over the past 25 years has been Accessibility Remodeling and Aging in Place, including basement finishes, mother-in-law apartments and egressibility modifications.

With our newest corporate addition ‘ Guardian First Defense’ with are concentrating on doors and windows that are extremely difficult to breach and gain unauthorized access to your home. Windows that are not bullet proof but virtually impossible to break and enter to help keep your family and possessions safe from the bad guys. Storm doors and patio door that are laminated, three point locking and very difficult to pry open or break into. Re-enforced door and window screens that cannot be easily cut and existing glass that can receive ballistic film instead of replacing windows and glass doors.

How did you get started in the business? - For years while I pursued other corporate career opportunities, my ‘FUN’ was to build, remodel for friends and myself, income property remodeling and at the end of week I would just spend time in my shop doing what I enjoyed. After many years of travel and being away from home decided to open a little maintenance company just doing some odd jobs here and there. And it just so happens when you are doing something you love, it will just blossom. So one thing leads to another, you put on qualified, motivated craftsman and with guidance from our Lord and taking great care of our clients we are then nicely rewarded.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - Some of the biggest challenges in the past had been the housing market crash around 2008-2010. Many of our clients had been investors and that investment market dried up and then with Covid nearly 50% of all qualified people in the trades left to do something else or maybe nothing at all? Today it is still a bit of a challenge finding good, reputable subcontractors that are like minded to help people the way I like too.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? My most important achievement professionally may be the mentoring I have been able to do over the years. Taking good people with talent and limited experience and bring them along to a higher level of competency.

Tell us a little about your family. - I have three incredible grown children, eight amazing beautiful grandchildren, a very talented and devoted daughter-in-law and two sons-in-laws that I must say my daughters did very well in their pickiness. I have had the pleasure of the company of one of the most incredible women I have known for over 13 years and consider myself blessed because of her.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - Having Jesus find me! Marriage, children, grandchildren, wonderful careers and being led to the Catholic Church and the discipleship path in Christ that I am on.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Dedicated or loving!

If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? - raomaha.com | (402) 510-3326

I am thankful for the team I work with and their dedication to the project, without them, we couldn’t have done all we accomplished in such a short time.

Tell us a little about your family. - I have two biological children and my partner has five children – our house is full of kids! We also have four cats, two birds, several fish and a snake. It’s a crazy life with a lot going on, and it keeps us all on our toes!

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - I recently started Jujitsu and have competed in two competitions. It has been a great source of stress release and an activity that strengthens mental clarity. I encourage everyone to try it. I always look forward to afternoon training, it helps to hit the mat after a long day at work. Bonus, it’s a great workout out too!

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - We’re all just walking each other home – Ram Dass. This resonates with me; it means that we are all in this together and we are all equally important in this world.

Who inspires you? - My girlfriend and our children. This one is simple, they have all shown me how to slow down and remain in the moment. Each one of them is so incredibly different and I can learn so much from each of them. I am grateful for their presence in my life.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - On my days off from work, I like spending it with family and just relaxing. I might pick up an extra day at jiujitsu or lunch with the kids. Honestly, I am quite the homebody so it’s nice to just not have any plans and to stay home!

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - Since I was a child, I always wanted to be a Paleontologist and I still think that if given the opportunity, I would pursue that career. There is something about being involved in the learning and understanding of these animals that were here millions of years ago that has always intrigued me. How cool would it be to discover the next great dinosaur from 65 million years ago!

Meet Michelle Zlomke, Business Solutions Officer at Cornhusker Bank.

Tell us a little about your business. - As the Business Solutions Officer, I help businesses do business better by fully utilizing the accounts and services our bank offers. It’s my goal to help businesses improve their cash flow, create efficiencies and protect their assets and banking information.

How did you get started in the business? - My first part-time bank job was in high school. I worked after school in the drive-thru at a bank in Broken Bow. I’ve been in banking full-time for about 15 years, and moved to Lincoln in 2015. I’ve previously been a branch manager and a contact center manager, and took this role helping meet the specific needs of businesses in 2020. Before I was a full-time banker, I worked in communications and public relations, and spent a few years in the community newspaper business. Both professions have allowed me to work closely with people who are deeply invested in the success of their communities.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?

- In 2020, I returned to college as a non-traditional student, and graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University with a degree in Organizational Leadership and Business Administration in 2022. Now, I’m enrolled in Graduate School of Banking – Colorado, which includes three years of coursework and collaboration with bankers from across the United States.

And there was that one time that I was named Photographer of the Year by the Nebraska Press Association while I was the editor of a community newspaper in Central Nebraska.

Tell us a little about your family. - I have three sons, two who graduated from University of Nebraska – Lincoln and one who is in the Air Force. I also have two grandsons. Since they live all over the United States, I get to travel frequently to new places. My parents still live in Broken Bow, and a part of my heart will always be in the Nebraska Sandhills.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - I can think of several turning points that profoundly changed my life, my outlook and my personal and professional goals. Every one of them forced me to consider new paths, gather strength and rebuild. There’s a quote that I’ve always appreciated – Great things never come from comfort zones.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Authentic.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - I would be a voice actor. Wouldn’t that be great? I could make a whole career out of talking.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why?Sometimes, when people ask me what my hobbies are – I tell them I spend my free time at board meetings. I serve on the board for several nonprofit organizations – Lincoln Children's Museum, Lincoln Arts Council, Leadership Lincoln, Heartland Cancer Foundation and Nebraska Foundation for Public Leadership. I’m also very involved in Rotary. Every one of these organizations enhances the daily lives of people in Southeast Nebraska, and I’m blessed to have the time to give back to the community by being part of these groups.

Meet Kenneth Waters, Owner/Founder at All In Party Rentals.

Tell us a little about your business. We specialize in providing a unique and exciting entertainment experience for all types of events. Our range of casino-themed party rentals includes authentic gaming tables and professional dealers to create a true Las Vegas-style atmosphere.

Whether you are planning a corporate event, fundraiser, wedding reception or private party our casino themed rentals will leave a lasting impression on guests and memorable events.

How did you get started in the business? - My journey in the casinothemed party rental business started with a passion for Texas Hold’em Poker while living in Las Vegas. I supported the WSOP events by setting up and tearing down their annual events.

After moving to Nebraska, I hosted a fundraiser for a local nonprofit organization I supported and noticed a gap in the market for high-quality, authentic casino equipment rentals for events. Armed with determination and a vision, I researched the industry, sourced equipment and carefully assembled an impressive inventory.

After investing time and effort into building relationships with vendors and event planners, my business gradually gained traction. Wordof-mouth referrals and positive client testimonials further propelled the growth of my venture.

Today, I take pride in offering premium casino-themed party rentals that elevate any event to a memorable experience. Customer satisfaction remains at the core of my business philosophy, driving me to continuously innovate and improve our services.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?Navigating through the competitive landscape of the casino-themed party rental industry has been one of my most substantial professional challenges. Standing out and differentiating from competitors while maintaining a high level of service quality and customer satisfaction has been quite demanding, yet very important to my branding.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?

- The most significant achievement in my professional journey within the casino-themed party rental business through dedication and hard work, I have successfully expanded our client base by 300% going into 2024 after three years. While organizing the largest casino event to date of 700 guests.

This milestone signifies personal and professional growth but also reflects our commitment to providing exceptional service, exceeding customer expectations and continuing to set ourselves apart from the competition.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - One of the biggest turning points in my professional life in the casino themed party rental business was when we decided to expand our service offerings geographically to include a wider range of casino games and entertainment options. This strategic decision allowed us to attract a broader clientele and significantly increase our revenue streams. By diversifying our inventory and enhancing the overall customer experience, we were able to solidify our position as a leading provider in the industry and establish long-lasting relationships with our clients.

Protect Your Investment with Regular Maintenance

Lifetime Stone Restoration specializes in the restoration and maintenance of natural stone surfaces comprised of marble, limestone, terrazzo, granite, travertine and slate. Every stone surface requires different techniques to restore and maintain them, so they last for a lifetime in your business. We can remove scratches, fill cracks and holes and diamond hone to a matte or satin finish and polish.

Routine cleaning with the correct chemicals is important to not cause damage to the stone and routine sealing helps protect against moisture penetration and staining. Ceramic and porcelain tiles in particular need to be cleaned routinely especially if they are rough to the touch since dirt and grime can adhere to them easier. The grout around these tiles needs to be cleaned and sealed regularly to prevent permanent staining. Lifetime Stone offers different sealers that can be used depending on each client’s needs. We can clear seal your grout which will last a couple of years or we can change the grout’s color with a color seal. Color sealing will make your grout close to 100% waterproof and will last much longer than clear sealing.

Not many businesses have showers. For the few that do, we can remove mildew, soap, mineral deposits and reseal the grout. If caulking is damaged or

discolored, we can re-caulk the shower usually with a color that closely matches the grout color.

What sets Lifetime Grout apart from the competition? We are not a franchise, which allows us to change our processes and products whenever we need to in order to bring you the best service possible. New products and processes are always being developed and we pride ourselves on staying current in the market. Additionally, we are also not a run-of-the-mill janitorial company that does a large variety of different types of work. This allows us to specialize in the services we do offer, so we can be experts in those areas. Natural stone and grout maintenance is what we are passionate about, and this shows through our work!

Our promise to our customers is that Lifetime Stone will always be on time and will make sure that you know exactly what to expect from the finished product. There won’t be any guesswork!

If you think something you have is beyond repair or too difficult for your janitorial or maintenance crew to handle, please give Lifetime Stone a call. We have helped clients with floors, counters and vanities, fountains, statues and much more. We’d love to help you next.

“The McMill Building was constructed in 1903 and is on the National Registry of Historical Places. It was first used as a federal courthouse and a post office. The lobby, halls, and spiral staircase are a combination of marble and terrazzo. We needed to find someone who respected the historical significance of the building and be qualified to restore it to its original beauty...Don was very professional and worked around our busy schedule. Our building looks beautiful and we receive compliments daily. I would highly recommend Lifetime Stone Restoration. Thanks, Don!”

“We have used Langer Electric for a couple of different electrical projects. We had a perplexing problem where the electricity in three rooms of our house just quit working for seemingly no reason. Attempting to fix it ourselves, we replaced switches and circuits, but nothing seemed to work. Chris Langer went over the top to diagnose and solve the problem. He found a short in one of the wall outlets and fixed it right away, even coming back a second time to make sure everything was complete. We are very pleased with the fantastic service we received. Of these cases, 52% were sexual abuse, 15% neglect, 11% physical abuse and 6% witness to violence.

Over 17,000 pinwheels are spinning all across the Metro Area throughout the month of April as part of Project Harmony’s Pinwheels for Prevention® campaign to raise awareness of this life-threatening issue. In 2008, Prevent Child Abuse America® introduced the blue pinwheel as the national symbol for child abuse prevention. The pinwheel represents the great childhood that every child deserves and the role we each play in providing a loving and supportive environment for the children in our lives.

“April provides an opportunity for all of us, individuals and organizations alike, to take action by learning more about prevention and supporting organizations that support children,” said Project Harmony Executive Director Gene Klein. “A cause is only as strong as the people who support it and together we can end child abuse.”

You are an important part of the solution. Take the pledge to be someone in the life of a child today at ProjectBeSomeone.org.

Project Harmony exists to provide effective, immediate and sensitive support to child abuse victims and their non-offending family members. To learn more, go to projectharmony.com.

Girls on the Run Gearing Up for Fall Metro Programming

Girls on the Run of Nebraska (GOTR), an after-school program that inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident with running, is gearing up for another fun fall season of friendship, “girl power” and 5K fun at schools across Lincoln and Omaha. More than 25,000 girls across the state have participated in GOTR since its inception with 11 girls in Lincoln in 2003.

GOTR combines exercise, education and mentoring to build confidence and character in third- through sixth-grade girls. Teams meet twice weekly after school for two months to play running games that help train them for a 5K run/walk. Lessons on teamwork, decisionmaking and goal-setting are incorporated with physical activity, so participants get much more than exercise. The season highlight will be the Metro regional GOTR 5K Nov 3 in Lincoln.

Volunteer coaches are needed for sites across Omaha and Lincoln. You don’t have to be a runner to be a great GOTR coach and teach girls valuable life lessons. Coaching is a fun and rewarding short-term opportunity and you’ll have just as much fun as the girls. Training is required.

Help your girl put her best foot forward with Girls on the Run this year. Visit www.GOTRNebraska.org to bring GOTR to your school or to get involved.

AIM Institute Celebrates TRIO Day by Inspiring Change with Gitanjali Rao

Clean out your closets and find gently used shoes! It’s time for One Day Without Shoes, Cornhusker Bank’s annual shoe collection drive to benefit Stephen Center. The collection drive will take place April 22 through May 5.

One Day Without Shoes is a collaborative effort with local businesses who volunteer to help the bank collect new and wearable used shoes for free distribution by Stephen Center. “The look on the faces of our clients when we provide them with shoes is priceless, providing them with joy they may not have felt in a very long time,” noted Teri Corcoran, Stephen Center Interim Chief Executive Officer.

One Day Without Shoes began in 2011 by Cornhusker Bank to benefit the Lincoln community. In 2020, the event expanded to Omaha and a partnership was formed with the Stephen Center. In the three years of hosting this event in Omaha, Cornhusker Bank’s Omaha location and numerous business partners collected over 5,000 pairs of shoes and $750 in monetary donations. All shoes and any cash donations collected in Omaha will stay in Omaha for distribution.

Gently worn and new shoes can be dropped off at one of the collection sites during these two weeks. A complete list of collection sites can be found on Cornhusker Bank’s website www.cornhuskerbank. com/Day-Without-Shoes-omaha.aspx.

The AIM Institute Youth Academies (Upward Bound and Talent Search) hosted National TRIO Day for Omaha-area high school students to celebrate the success of these students and highlight the importance of these programs in promoting equal access to education.

The event, held at UNO’s Mammel Hall in late February, also inspired the students to use their education to improve the world around them. AIM Institute brought in Gitanjali Rao, TIME Magazine’s 2020 Kid of the Year and Top Young Innovator, to speak and work with the students on creating change for a positive impact. The event also featured a service project for students and a drone obstacle course challenge.

Devin Henk, a junior at Bryan High School, had this to say about Ms. Rao and the event, “In college, I want to study Computer Science, and Gitanjali Rao’s speech was amazing! It really connected with me on a personal level because I am interested in AI and the tech community. She’s also attending MIT, and I really want to strive to get into that school.”

“We give special thanks to Gitanjali Rao for her time to meet with our students, and to Mammel Hall and UNO for providing a wonderful space that allows our students to experience a glimpse of a college campus,” says Charles Kaup, Director of AIM’s TRIO Upward Bound programs. “AIM’s Youth Academies offer life-changing learning experiences to inspire under-represented youth to pursue their full potential and achieve their ultimate career goals.”

Questions About Nebraska’s New Voter ID Law? Disability Rights Nebraska Has Answers!

Starting this year, with the May primaries, all Nebraska residents will need to bring a photo ID with them to the polls. Disability Rights Nebraska has just launched a new three minute Voter ID explainer video to help you through the process. The video provides tips on how to prepare so you can cast your vote with ease.

The good news is that a lot of different types of ID will be accepted. For people who are unable to afford the fee for a state ID card, the legislature has made state ID cards free, through your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), for voting purposes to make sure people can still exercise their right to vote.

If you don’t already have a Nebraska photo ID, when you go to the DMV, you will need to bring:

your social security number, a copy of your birth certificate, and two documents that show your name and address (such as pieces of mail you’ve received at your current address).

Nebraska birth certificates can also be attained for free through the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services’ Vital Records division.

More information is covered in the new video explainer at www. disabilityrightsnebraska.org. Just look for the “Voting Information Here” banner at the top of the home.

Hope Center for Kids is Painting a Picture of Hope with Skill Class Offerings

Middle School Facilitator, Lucretia McBride, recognizes that 2023 was a hard year for the youth in her program. To encourage the kids, she made it her goal to show them how to “overcome emotional and spiritual turmoil through education”. Since joining the Hope Center for Kids team in May of 2023, Ms. Cretia has developed a model that shows how education is a part of self-care. Through this model, she wants to empower Hope Center youth by equipping them with skills like advocating for themselves and others.

Ms. Cretia has encouraged student participation by implementing different skill classes. These include candle making, crocheting, poetry and many more topics. In the most recent activity, middle schoolers were given the opportunity to perform in a play at Hope.

“We are creating opportunities for our kids, our parents, and our loved ones – so they can paint their own picture,” said DeJuan Reddick, Executive Director.

If you have a skill you would like to showcase to Hope Center members, please reach out to at getmoreinfo@hopecenterforkids. com.

Save Time, Money, and Headaches with Managed IT Services

Some of the most powerful value propositions are also the most straightforward. Managed as-a-service IT solutions fall squarely into this camp. They’re delivered by a managed services provider (MSP) over the internet or network connection instead of your business’ own hardware or software and deliver immediate, tangible benefits on several fronts:

• Technology benefits, including access to the latest feature sets, improved visibility, centralized management, automatic patching and enhanced security.

• Financial benefits, including scalability, lower total cost of ownership (TCO) and OpEx vs. CapEx advantages.

• Labor benefits, including access to specialized talent and reduced burdens on your internal IT teams.

Let’s explore just a few examples.

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) delivers IT infrastructure like compute, storage and network resources on a pay-asyou-go basis. With IaaS, you can request and configure the resources you need to run your applications and IT systems while bypassing the costs and complexities of purchasing and managing physical servers and data center infrastructure.

Advantages of IaaS include:

• Increased performance and decreased capex – With IaaS, you can avoid costly upfront capital outlays to support future growth while avoiding the trap of having sunk costs in outdated infrastructure.

• Increased scalability and flexibility – IaaS scales with your company as you grow and can also swell with your operations for seasonal- or event-based demand.

• Increased support for disaster recovery and business continuity – Cutting-edge IaaS data centers are built with redundancy in all potential failure points — power hardware, software, network, physical security and connectivity.

Backup as a Service (BaaS)

Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) backs up and replicates all of your data, including file systems and business applications, in a secure data center. BaaS advantages include:

• Data loss prevention – With BaaS, you can reliably protect your data from human error, malicious actors, power surges and natural disasters, hardware theft and other risks.

• Automatic backups on your timeframe – BaaS routines can be scheduled at times that work best for your network utilization. They also can provide real-time backup when you need it.

• Remote access to your data – BaaS allows you to access files at any time, from any location with Internet access.

Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS)

Disaster Recovery as Service (DRaaS) provides continuous data protection (CDP) to keep your company functioning – or to restore operations – when disaster strikes. Benefits include:

• Reduced Downtime – Meet fast recovery time and recovery point objectives.

• Advanced Protection – Enterprise-level infrastructure and encryption security.

• Expert Management – Rely on managed disaster failover protection and recovery.

STARTING A BUSINESS

Modern entrepreneurship comes with so many new challenges that were not prevalent decades ago. Technology has revolutionized almost every industry. Aspiring entrepreneurs must recognize these modern challenges and include them in their plans for success.

The journey from concept to launch is filled with excitement, anticipation and a healthy dose of uncertainty. Yet, amidst the thrill of pursuing one's passion and building something from the ground up, it's essential to recognize the importance of thorough preparation and strategic planning.

Marketing is a Must

First Direct Marketing knows that marketing is one essential area that business owners need to plan carefully. they’ve based their whole business around it. Marketing can make or break a business in the crucial first years. Often businesses try various marketing initiatives such as Google Ads, Facebook Ads, Direct Mail and other advertising channels. However, they don’t get the results from these for several reasons. Some of the reasons come down to some key areas that many businesses underestimate the importance of and or don’t implement correctly.

The good news is these things are some of the easiest to fix and have some of the largest impact on generating new leads for any business. What are some of those gaps?

“We see most new businesses have five marketing gaps which are easy to fix. Every business needs leads, appointments, sales, reviews and repeat buyers,” said Joel Buhr, Chief Data Disruptor (aka President), First Direct. Here is a breakdown of these gaps:

SMS Capability: SMS is growing as the most preferred method of communication. In fact, SMS open rates are on average 98% compared to email at 16%. This is easy to solve though by using SMS enabled numbers and automations to help with responses.

Missed Call Text Back: This closely follows number one. Nearly 64% of inbound calls to SMB's go unanswered every day. The good news is that modern technology enables us to automate back a text message saying "Sorry we missed your call- how can we help" to anyone who calls in but doesn't get an answer. Imagine how much money in lost revenue this one tactic would bring back!

Google Chat: This is an option that most businesses don't know is even available. An average business receives 1000 visits per month to their Google Business Profile. People don't want to have to call so as soon as they see there's a chat option, they jump on it. Not to be the bearer of bad news, but if you haven't figured it out yet, Google doesn't want anyone leaving the search results to go to a website, so they're going to start pushing this feature hard. Best to get ahead of your competitors while they're still in the dark about this one.

Online listings: These are one last way to generate leads without paid ads. Now, this one does have a recurring cost, but it can be powerful because having your business listed correctly across the top directories around the internet correlates pretty strongly with businesses that tend to rank well in search results. With Listings, you can input all your business's important info like name, address, phone number etc. and have that info automatically published across all the top directories around the web- nearly 100 in total.

Listings then locks that data, so no third party can change it, which is common and leads to inconsistencies over time. It's hard to get someone to claim your lead offer if they don't even know you exist and Listings can be a great way to get yourself in front of a lot more people online.

Response time: When it comes to nurturing leads into sales, the number one issue local businesses face is speed. Studies show that there's basically a five-minute shot clock. If you can get a new lead to engage within five minutes, the odds of closing that lead skyrocket. The problem is most small businesses are too busy with their day- to- day operations to reply that quickly. One thing that helps with this is having your lead channels funnel into a consolidated mobile app, so you can quickly reply to everything in one place whenever your pocket buzzes.

There are many other areas that are critical as well, asking for reviews, responding to those reviews, making payment options easy, database reactivation, landing pages, planning the right strategy around advertising channels, and a key part is staying consistent. The nice part of this is with a simple audit First Direct can uncover most of these and start building a plan to fix and improve each and every one.

LIFE CHANGES UNPLANNED

If there is one constant in life, it is change. New changes arise as people move through each unique stage of life. While it’s natural for any life transition to elicit strong emotions, fear and anxiety, there are ways to be better prepared. As Alan Watts so eloquently put it, “The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.”

The best way to anticipate change is to plan ahead. This seems to go without saying, and yet, many seniors are caught off guard when facing unexpected changes that come up later in life.

Seniors and their families may suddenly find themselves facing new shifts in housing, health and more with no plan in place. Local businesses throughout Omaha are here to help ease their fears and worries surrounding these unplanned life changes, so that seniors and their loved ones never feel alone on their journey.

Recognizing the diversity of needs among seniors, it’s important to distinguish between long-term care and short-term rehabilitation. While long-term care is necessary for many seniors, short-term rehabilitation is something that cannot be overlooked or mistaken for the need for long-term care. Unique to Brookestone Meadows is its unwavering emphasis on the discharge process. The facility takes great pride in its dedicated commitment to facilitating a patient’s smooth transition back to their home or a retirement community, a commitment exemplified through its robust discharge planning services.

“Our dedicated team members are wholeheartedly committed to making a meaningful and positive impact in the lives of the seniors we have the privilege to care for,” expressed Katie Van Boskirk, Social Services Coordinator . “It’s a two-way journey of learning and growth, and we often find that we gain as much wisdom, inspiration and life lessons from our senior residents as they do from us.”

Brookestone Meadows’ approach to rehabilitation is meticulously designed to guarantee the long-term success and wellbeing of its patients, extending far beyond their stay at the facility. The team at Brookestone Meadows recognizes that the ultimate goal is not only to provide excellent care during the patient’s time with them, but also to equip individuals with the tools, support and resources necessary for a successful and sustainable life once they leave the facility. The comprehensive discharge planning ensures that individuals are well-prepared for the next phase of their journey, offering peace of mind to both patients and their families.

In the senior care industry, another pressing challenge revolves around

the escalating demand for senior care services. This surge in demand is further exacerbated by a shortage of caregivers, a situation that significantly impacts the overall cost of care. Consequently, seniors are facing the daunting task of locating suitable care options that align with their financial constraints. With Summer 2024 right around the corner, many families and seniors are figuring out what the next steps are, taking cost, quality of care and the time they’ll be able to spend together into consideration.

Staying Active Throughout Life

See The Trainer recognizes the increased likelihood of unexpected injuries as individuals age and the subsequent need for effective rehabilitation to resume normal daily activities.

For seniors aspiring to maintain an active lifestyle to prevent or mitigate injuries, See The Trainer offers a diverse range of sports medicine products designed to protect against aggravating previous injuries or vulnerable body areas. In situations requiring surgery, See The Trainer extends its support through the rehabilitation phase. Owner Kristie Egan emphasizes their commitment to aiding those undergoing post-surgery or injury recovery by offering a variety of helpful products like canes, sock aids, bathroom accessories and more.

“We understand the challenge of having to adjust your daily routine for weeks or months due to something unexpected. Our products can help you through your recovery, minimizing disruptions caused by health setbacks and ensuring everything heals properly so that you can get back to your pre-injury routine,” explained Kristie.

See The Trainer has been the premier provider of soft goods, rehabilitation and bracing products in the region for over two decades, since 1996. Their dedicated team takes pride in educating patients about their injuries and matching them with the most suitable products tailored to their specific needs.

Another facet of keeping seniors happy and healthy involves addressing the escalating demand for senior care services. This surge in demand, coupled with a scarcity of caregivers, significantly impacts the cost and availability of quality care options. Seniors and families are navigating complex decisions, considering factors like cost, care quality and the time they can spend together while seeking suitable care solutions.

In response to the pressing challenges within the senior care industry, Hallmark Homecare, a distinguished Referral Agency specializing in the recruitment and placement of seasoned caregivers directly with seniors, is intensifying its focus on key value propositions. These include affordability, client-directed care, and the cultivation of a robust pool of professional caregivers who benefit from increased earnings through preferable shifts and extended hours.

According to Shane Neuharth , “The competitive advantage of the Hallmark Model of Care stems from cutting out the middleman, namely the traditional senior care agency. This results in our clients saving money and having a greater voice in decisions concerning their care while also experiencing greater continuity in caregiver relationships. The Hallmark Model’s higher caregiver pay and preferable shifts with increased hours significantly increases the pool of qualified caregivers for clients to select from. Lastly, our clients are fully protected knowing their caregivers are credentialed, verified, screened and fully insured.”

With a shortage of caregivers for our beloved seniors comes stress. This shortage amplifies concerns about the quality and availability of care for aging family members who require assistance with daily activities, medical needs or companionship. Family members often face the challenge of finding adequate and reliable care options, leading to heightened anxiety and stress as they strive to ensure their loved ones receive the necessary support and attention. Additionally, seniors themselves may experience stress due to limited access to essential care services, leading to feelings of vulnerability and uncertainty about their well-being and future. The widespread shortage of caregivers adds pressure to an already challenging situation for families and seniors alike, emphasizing the critical need for more support and resources in elder care services.

Fortunately, technological advancements in home-based care services provide a range of tools to support seniors in aging at home while prioritizing their safety and access to essential medical care. These innovative technologies encompass safety monitoring systems that offer round-the-clock surveillance, ensuring immediate assistance in emergencies. Medication management tools aid in organizing and reminding seniors to take their medications correctly, reducing the risk of errors. Additionally, cognitive stimulation programs and devices help maintain mental acuity and engagement. Telemedicine services enable remote access to healthcare professionals, facilitating medical consultations and support from the comfort of home. Together, these technological advancements empower seniors to live independently at home while ensuring enhanced safety measures and better access to necessary medical care.

Sparking Joy for Seniors

The Brant at Gretna is a senior living facility, offering different levels of care such as independent living, assisted living and memory care. Their amenities include billiards, social lounges and even a bistro. However, this is not what makes them so unique.

What sets The Brant apart is their use of the award-Winning SPARK™ Program. This Montessori based program is specially designed for seniors that not only strives to help them reach their full potential, but also provides an opportunity to spend their days with a sense of joyful purpose. SPARK™ places ultimate focus on supporting residents’ ideas, choices, and independence, so they feel empowered to create a community that speaks to them.

• The program is based on four foundational pillars:

• Social Roles: Each resident has a role in the community, ensuring they have a sense of purpose.

• Skills Focused: Through skills assessments, the staff helps seniors build and strengthen identified skills.

• Procedural Memory: Repetition makes routine tasks simpler and easier.

• Progression and Goal Setting: Long-term projects and working toward a goal allows residents to feel successful as they work toward their objectives.

Through this program, The Brant allows seniors to continue to live purpose-driven lives. While moving into a new facility later in life may be a big change, moving to a place so dedicated to enriching lives can make this change an exciting one rather than a daunting one.

While it goes without saying that life is full of unknowns, changes associated with aging needn’t be scary. Being prepared is the best thing you can do for yourself or your loved ones to ensure that transitions are smooth and easy. Whether it is time to consider a move or time to enlist more help around the home, there are local business who are in your corner and ready to help you navigate life’s many ups and downs.

Meeting our customers needs comes down to what does that individual client need? For some, it's simply keeping the lawn green and healthy. For others, they want their lawn and landscape to be the centerpiece of the neighborhood. Top Cut Lawn strives to make sure their team gets to know the homeowner throughout the season.

“Each time we visit their house, we try to visit with the homeowner. We keep an eye out for anything that may need attention,” said Sam Mangianeli.

With any project, it's no secret that the end result is the best. Getting to see the entire plan and process come together. To form a new addition to the homeowner’s property that brings them happiness for years to come. Keeping lawns green is a great feeling, but seeing a new retaining wall, or landscape bed get complete offers a more long term satisfaction.

The Right Tools for the Job:

Some landscaping projects require more than your run of the mill tools. Most of the equipment you need is available for rent. Here are some common tools you may want to rent for your next project:

Skid Steer Loader: Useful for heavy-duty tasks like grading, digging, lifting heavy materials, and moving large amounts of soil or debris.

Mini Excavator: Ideal for digging trenches, excavating small areas, and moving soil or gravel in tight spaces.

Trencher: Specifically designed for digging narrow trenches, useful for installing irrigation systems, laying cables, or creating drainage channels.

Stump Grinder: Used for removing tree stumps by grinding them down below ground level, allowing for replanting or landscaping over the area.

Aerator: Helps to improve soil compaction and promote healthy root growth by perforating the lawn with holes, allowing air, water, and nutrients to penetrate the soil.

Tiller: Ideal for breaking up compacted soil, preparing garden beds, and incorporating compost or amendments into the soil.

Lawn Roller: Helps to level uneven ground, pack down soil after seeding, and improve seed-to-soil contact for better germination.

Seed Spreader: Used for evenly distributing seeds, fertilizer, or granular herbicides over large areas, ensuring uniform coverage.

Sod Cutter: Designed for cutting and removing sections of sod, helpful for lawn renovation projects or creating new garden beds.

Pressure Washer: Ideal for cleaning outdoor surfaces like patios, decks, driveways, and siding, removing dirt, grime, and mildew buildup.

Compact Utility Loader (CUL): Versatile equipment for a wide range of landscaping tasks, including grading, digging, lifting, and hauling materials.

Hydroseeder: Ideal for seeding large areas quickly and efficiently, using a slurry of seed, fertilizer, mulch, and water sprayed onto the soil surface.

Mortar Mixer: Useful for mixing large batches of concrete, mortar, or grout for hardscaping projects like patios, pathways, and retaining walls.

Summer Activities for Kids

Summer is coming fast! Parents everywhere are filling their calendars with fun activities to keep their kids entertained and engaged all summer long. With so many local options to choose from right here in Omaha, which should you pick?

Boasting a variety of activities, camps, classes and more to make summer special, check out all of Omaha’s local businesses who are proud to offer exciting summer activities for kids and families to enjoy.

Keep Summer Healthy and Cavity-Free

Nothing can ruin summer fun like cavities! No child wants to spend their summer in pain. That’s why the team at Pediatric Dental Specialists is dedicated to keeping kids’ mouths clean and healthy so they can keep summer carefree and fun.

According to Pediatric Dental Specialists' Dr. Ben Reimer, “Summer is a great time to always be on the go or at play! At Pediatric Dental Specialists, we are helping kids stay cavity free so they can enjoy summer to the fullest! We will also be making summer fun by altering our Thursday schedule to include lunch time appointments so families have more options to see the dentist early in the day and then have fun adventures in the afternoons!”

Pediatric Dental Specialists is dedicated to being a lifelong partner in dental care for families. It is never too early to create lifelong good habits. Summer is a time when normal routines tend to go out the window, so it is even more important to keep your children’s’ oral health in mind!

Some tips to keep your kids’ healthy in between dental visits include things like substituting sugary junk food for more natural treats like fruit, staying hydrated with water over sugary sports drinks, being sure to pack necessary dental care tools for summer camps and making sure kids have any safety gear they need for summer sports and outdoor activities. By utilizing these tips and the convenient appointments at Pediatric Dental Specialists, you and your children can have a healthy and fun summer!

Hand-crafted Learning

It is no secret that children learn more when they are interested in what they are learning. To optimize learning, you have to increase engagement and target lessons to the individual. At Heavenly Arms Learning Center, Owner Miss Shyla optimizes learning through her handcrafted curriculum. She and her exceptional teaching team create unique lesson plans that gently challenge your child and address their areas of weakness.

“Each child in our care receives the individualized attention that allows them to flourish,” said Owner, Shyla Johnson. “Our expert team makes a daily difference in the life of your child. By getting to know your child personally, we can offer guidance and plenty of encouragement along the way.”

Plus, Miss Shyla doesn’t just aim to help children. She regularly puts together parent education videos to give you tailored expertise you can trust. She connects parents who struggle to make ends meet with resources like Title 20 to help pay for childcare costs.

Choosing the right childcare and education provider can be difficult. Everyone wants the best for their children, even if it means making sacrifices. With Heavenly Arms Learning Center, the sacrifices parents make for their children are much less impactful than elsewhere.

Life Skills through Sports

Want something more structured for your kids to do this summer? What about getting them involved in a sport? Play It Forward is a non-profit, youth sports organization that introduces young athletes to multiple sports through the coaching and leadership from high school student-athletes.

Play It Forward is known for utilizing High School athletes as mentors and coaches for the children in the programs. Every session at Play It Forward includes Be Kind Time. This is where the high school athletes talk to the younger athletes about the importance of being a good teammate, including others and the importance of sportsmanship whether you win or lose.

Give your kids a fun-filled summer at Play it Forward where each session also includes the kid-favorite obstacle course, games, multiple sports and more.

Not only will your child enjoy learning and participating in a new sport this summer, with Play It Forward, they will also learn valuable life skills before the coming school year.
