T
ampa Bay did not disappoint with near perfect conditions, March 10th-14th for the International Laser Class Association (ILCA) Midwinters East. One hundred and thirty-six sailors from the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean gathered in Elva Rouse Park for four amazing days of racing. Sailors tested their skills throughout the week with a building breeze Thursday and Friday. Saturday, sailors were greeted with a large frontal system that brought gusty conditions causing Saturday’s racing to be called off, and cooler temperatures for Sunday morning’s race start. Some sailors even saw ice on their boats Sunday morning.
Throughout the weekend the ILCA 4 (4.7) completed 7 races; the ILCA 6 (Radial) completed 8 races and the ILCA 7 (standard) completed 8 races. The St. Petersburg Yacht Club saw 16 of our members, youth, and adult sailors, compete in the event. Congratulations to Guthrie Braun, who was our top finisher in 5th place for ILCA 7 (standard); Kate Danielson who was our top finisher in 13th place for the ILCA 6 (Radial) and Bella Shakespeare who was our top finisher for ILCA 4 (4.7). Great job by all the sailors! For more information on the event visit www.spyc.org/regattas.
