Dear Families & Friends,
Recently I saw an advertisement for Act Belong Commit (Mentally Healthy WA) and my heart filled with pride as I reflected on this message and the past 2 weeks of events we have celebrated.
The first was our Welcome Back Event organised by our brilliant P&F Executive. It was wonderful to have so many families in attendance. Sincere thanks to Rose & Jac for coordinating everything from farm animals to food trucks – the time, love and energy you both poured into making this event a success was truly appreciated. Special mention to our House Band for the evening Parental As Anything; To Jonathon, Kirsty, Bek, Peter, Elliott, Laura, Dan, Sarah and Paul, you optimised the message of Act Belong Commit. Thank you for volunteering your time, sharing your talents and bringing our parent community together in such a special way.
Across the following two days we then held our Sacramental Commitment Masses for students in Years 3, 4 and 6. Thank you to all of the families who attended. Masses such as these not only support our students’ spiritual journeys but strengthen the bond between our Parish & School community.
Last Friday, we then held our Faction Swimming Carnival for students in Years 3 – 6.
Congratulations to Kelleher for winning the carnival and to Morahan for winning our Endeavour Shield. Thank you to all of our students for showing amazing sportsmanship and determination throughout the day. Special thanks to our Year 6 student leaders for helping out our younger students in the pool, to the parents and grandparents who volunteered their time to assist on the day and last but not least, to Mrs Laura Siciliano for coordinating the carnival and ensuring it ran smoothly.
Weeks such as these, act as an important reminder to all adults in our community that attending school events, or volunteering your time at St Michael’s, helps not only your individual mental health but also strengthens our community spirit. If you did not have the chance to attend our first P&F Meeting of the year, please remember that all parents and guardians are members of the P&F and that throughout the year there will be lots of opportunities to Act Belong Commit at St Michael’s.
May you all have a beautiful week ahead.

Loving God, We come before You with grateful hearts, thankful for the gift of our school community. We praise You for the love and support that surrounds us each day — our teachers who guide us, our friends who walk beside us, and especially our parents, who nurture, encourage and inspire us. Bless our families with strength and wisdom, fill our hearts with kindness and generosity and help us to always reflect Your love in the way we learn, grow and serve others. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen

Every 25 years, the Church holds a special celebration called a Jubilee Year 2025 is one of these years! Since ancient times, God’s followers would have a year that was especially dedicated to God. It was a time of forgiveness and rest: People would give back things that were taken from someone else, and farmers would leave their fields to rest and not plant anything. This rest gave them time to focus on relationships with God and other people. The Jubilee Year is a time to get back on track, all together, as one big Church family around the world The Jubilee reminds us to walk with Jesus every day
The cut-off date for Kindy 2026 enrolments is fast approaching. Interviews will commence in Week 7 this term.
A reminder that if you decide to send your child to school with a mobile phone, it needs to be stored at the office This will keep the phone safe and protect the privacy of your child and other children If you need to make contact with your child during school hours, contacting the office will always be the most effective & efficient way
Thank you to the parents and caregivers who have paid their tuition fees or have a repayment arrangement in place. A reminder to please send in your Payment Authorisation form as soon as possible. Please contact our Finance Manager, Peta Santella, either by email finance@stmichaelsbass wa edu au or telephone on 6278 9892 if you wish to set up an alternative repayment arrangement or have any queries regarding your account.
Thank you to the majority of parents and guardians that are following our drop off and pick up procedures. Younger children do not have well developed peripheral vision Their cognitive and perceptual abilities combined with their active behaviour may put them in higher risk situations in a road environment, particularly at busy times when traffic volumes are high. Children are also at risk around the school because they are smaller and less visible to drivers. Their behaviour can be less predictable than adults and they may have errors of judgement when dealing with traffic. Therefore, we ask that children do not cross James St without a responsible adult. If they need to, they may walk around the roundabout following the footpath near the BIC or cross at the stop sign at Old Perth Road. It is the responsibility of all drivers in the school community to follow the procedures in place to ensure the safety of all students It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure all students get safely to and from school.
Warm regards, Mrs Jo Borg and Mr Michael Sheridan
While the upper students were at the Faction Swimming Carnival, our junior students took part in Clean Up Schools Australia Day By actively participating, the students gained a deeper understanding of environmental conservation and the significance of making small, positive changes for a cleaner planet.
Our incredible P&F organised the most amazing Welcome Back Event to kickstart the 2025 school year The vibe around the school was that this event was the best one ever! Special thanks must go to Jaclyn Jaffray and Rose Trusso for all the effort they put into leading the night.
Our school was filled with cuddly animals, games, activities, food trucks, bubbles, magical fairies, face painting and balloons A special mention must be made to our extremely talented community members who joined forces to provide entertainment in the form of their band, ‘Parental As Anything’.
Our students in Years 3-6 had their Faction Swimming Carnival last Friday at Bayswater Waves It was an incredible event, organised by the wonderful Mrs Siciliano. The students who competed should be so proud of their achievements, sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the day.
Kelleher was crowned the overall winners on the day and Morahan took home the Endeavour Shield
50m events, 25m events, novelty races, relays and a parent/teacher/student race kept the huge crowd entertained from the first dive until the very last.

School Health Nurses work in schools to promote healthy development and wellbeing so students may reach their full potential. A major part of my work is focused on early intervention and the School Entry Health Assessment program. Additionally, the nurse can be contacted at any time throughout primary school if you have concerns about your child’s health, development or wellbeing
School Health Nurses serve as a health contact point for children and their families, providing information, assessment, health counselling and referral. They also work in partnership with schools to support teachers in health-related curriculum and can assist in the development of health care plans for students with complex and chronic health needs

Teeth are important possessions. Here are some tips for keeping them healthy:
• Clean teeth, gums and tongue at least twice a day with a soft toothbrush. Parents should supervise tooth brushing until children are 8 or 9 years old as children do not have the dexterity to brush the molars properly until then
• Adults and children should use a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste. Toothpaste should be spat out after brushing and never eaten or swallowed. Do not rinse your mouth out with water after brushing your teeth.
• Rinse your toothbrush thoroughly after brushing and store it hygienically. Replace your toothbrush regularly
• Older children and adults should floss their teeth daily.
• Eating and drinking healthily is important for keeping your teeth healthy – try to keep away from too much sugar, especially between meals. For more dental health information, go to http://raisingchildren.net.au or http://www dental wa gov au/
