MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Families & Friends,

On behalf of our students and staff I would like to thank the P&F for their outstanding fundraising over many years to fund the Upper Primary Playground, including soft-fall & shade sails. We now look to our next fundraising focus and at last week's P&F Meeting, we launched a new project titled Creative Connections: Nature, Play & Learning.

Inspired by student voice, Creative Connections aims to increase the play opportunities for our students from Pre-Kindy through to Year 6. Currently, our play opportunities during breaktimes are heavily focused on physical play. The aim of Creative Connections is to provide play experiences that cater for other student interests and areas of development including:

Critical and creative thinking

Imagination

Connection to nature

Problem-solving

Collaborative learning

The school would use P&F funds to:

Purchase a wooden shed with windows and storage for loose parts play resources

Create a green space next to the basketball courts, utilising the back yard of our Hamilton Street property.

Creative Connections is linked strongly to our Vision for Learning through:

Student Agency: Encouraging students to be active agents in their own learning

Whole Child Approach: Addressing the spiritual, social, emotional and academic development of each child

Contextual Learning: Encouraging critical and creative thinking through real-world scenarios

I look forward to sharing updates on this project as we bring our vision to life.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

I was recently reading an article discussing the link between anxiety in children, screentime and their busy little lives. Kathryn Berkett, author of the article makes some insightful points:

As we enter a long weekend, I encourage all families to have at least one day without devices. Allow children to feel bored and see what experiences are created out of that boredom.

On Sunday 8 July our Year 6 students, along with children from the Parish, will be celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please keep these children in your thoughts and prayers throughout this coming week, as they prepare for this special sacrament.

May you all have a lovely long weekend.

FAITH FOR THE JOURNEY

As we reach the halfway point of Term 2, we pause to thank You for the many blessings You have given us the learning we ’ ve shared, the friendships we ’ ve strengthened and the challenges that have helped us grow. We are grateful for the energy and dedication of our students, staff and families who work together to make our school a place of belonging, kindness and discovery.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS’ NEWS

Vinnie’s Appeal Thank You

Just wish to state that it is ALWAYS a pleasure to be at St Michael’s Your school has a beautiful ‘at-home’ feel. The children are happy and the school exudes positivity. I also firmly believe that planting the seeds of generosity in little minds goes a long way in developing positive, happy and well-balanced adults. Always happy to come back. Congratulations on the work you do

Thank you so very much for supporting us through your Winter Appeal.

The very generous contribution of warm items – with an emphasis on little people – will help a great deal to alleviate the plight of many of our clients.

Please pass on our thanks to your children, their parents and your staff.

All of us at the Guildford Conference of St Vincent de Paul Society look forward to continuing our partnership with St Michael’s.

Best wishes Vivian

CONFIRMATION RETREAT

Our Year 6 students recently took part in a meaningful Confirmation retreat led by the 24:7 Youth Ministry team. The day was filled with engaging activities, prayer and reflection, helping students deepen their understanding of the Holy Spirit and the sacrament of Confirmation. It was a valuable opportunity for students to grow in faith and prepare their hearts for this special milestone

WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY

Over 50 children and their families participated in our recent Walk Safely to School Day, gathering at Palmerston Park for a healthy start to the morning. The group enjoyed a safe and social walk back to school, led by Mrs Christian and our much-loved wellbeing dog, Donnelly. It was a wonderful way to promote Your Move, active transport, road safety, physical activity and community spirit

KINDY BEE INCURSION

Our Kindy students were treated to an incursion with Messiness Bee Farm to celebrate World Bee Day. The students were able to dress up in costumes, explore a real bee box, see Jay dressed in her bee safety gear, see what happens when you check on a hive, taste 3 different types of honey, touch and feel bees wax and see lots of pictures from the farm

SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME

To celebrate National Simultaneous Storytime, our amazing Library staff created a gorgeous display to promote ‘The Truck Cat’. It is a lovely little story about ‘finding a place to call home’ and ‘holding those you love close’

INTERSCHOOL X-COUNTRY

We are so proud of our Interschool X-Country team! 7 place out of 9 schools… 8 students finished in the top 10… and Pippa came first in the Year 6 girls race and broke the record by over 50 seconds! Special thanks to Mrs Siciliano and staff who assisted with training in the lead up and on the day of the carnival

YEAR 4 LA SALLE DAY

Our Year 4 students recently enjoyed an exciting excursion to La Salle College, where they experienced a day in the life of a future high school student. They participated in a range of engaging activities including science experiments, visual art, physical education and textiles
