Dear Families & Friends,
Last week, St Michael’s had the pleasure of hosting the Valuing Children Initiative (VCI) and several special guests for the launch of The Bassendean Street Play Project Report. Our students, as well as children from our wider Bassendean community, had contributed to the report through providing their thoughts and ideas on what would make them feel safe to play in our suburb.
Our school’s involvement in the project, aligned with our Vision for Learning - providing opportunities for our students to have voice in matters that impact them, and to develop their critical and creative thinking skills through real world scenarios.
Thank you to Sarah Quiton (VCI), Kath Hamilton (Mayor), Paul White (Acting CEO, Town of Bassendean) and Jimmy Murphy (Town Teams) who joined us for this special event. If you would like to read the report it is available at this link.
This coming Friday 20 June, we will be hosting another very special guest. Wayne Bull, Executive Director of Catholic Education Western Australia, and recent recipient of the Order of Australia, will be joining us for our assembly at 9:00am. St Michael’s has been chosen as the last school Wayne will visit before he retires from 47 years of service to Catholic Education. Families are most welcome to join us for this special assembly.
May you all have a beautiful weekend.
Michelle Christian Principal
Loving God, We thank You for our Catholic school, a place where we grow in faith, hope and love.
Help us to follow the example of Jesus in the way we speak, care and serve each other Bless our teachers, families and friends. Guide our hearts to be kind, our minds to be curious and our spirits to be strong in Your truth
May Saint Michael protect us and the Mercy values inspire us to walk with compassion, courage and respect each day
Together, may we SHINE with Your light in all that we learn, say and do Amen.

On Pentecost Sunday, our Year 6 students received the Sacrament of Confirmation, surrounded by their families, sponsors and parish community. It was a beautiful and Spirit-filled celebration, marking an important step in their faith journey. We pray that the gifts of the Holy Spirit continue to guide and strengthen them as they grow in love and discipleship
A special message from Miss Campagna: ‘Kimberley Calling has been a truly life changing experience for me. It has given me the opportunity to learn, connect and grow with young people in the Kununurra community. My eyes have been opened to both the beauty and challenges of living and working in a remote location. I am embracing the journey of personal growth, professional development and cultural immersion and know that these unique experiences will become memories I cherish for many years ’
Last Friday our Year 5 and 6 students attended the Sacred Saints Carnival with four other CEWA schools. After a beautiful Welcome to Country from Ken Heywood, the students took part in AFL, soccer and netball games. They also participated in activities run by Swan Districts Football Club and Football Futures Foundation
Our Year 1 students had a wonderful excursion to the WA Museum Boola Bardip, which means 'Many Stories'.
After an exciting train ride into the city, the students took part in the Then and Now program, exploring how life has changed over time. They enjoyed learning through hands-on experiences and were fascinated by the museum’s rich collection of artefacts and displays
Our Year 3 students had a wonderful excursion to the WA Art Gallery, travelling into the city by train with great excitement. As part of their visit, they explored powerful First Nations artwork, which meaningfully coincided with National Reconciliation Week. They also enjoyed a hands-on sculpture workshop and a guided tour, sparking creativity and deepening their appreciation for art and culture
A group of talented Year 6 students proudly represented St Michael’s at the recent Basketball Slam competition, showing great teamwork, determination and school spirit. They played with enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the event, making our school community very proud. A special thank you to our dedicated coaches for their time, guidance and support in preparing the teams
Students in Years 3–6 recently enjoyed participating in AFL clinics run by experienced coaches. The sessions were energetic and engaging, helping students build their skills, confidence, and love for the game. It was a fantastic opportunity to promote teamwork, physical activity and fun through sport
