Dear Families & Friends,
In my message at the start of the holidays, I was excited to inform you all that Maria (PP EA) and Jessie (Year 6 Teacher) were both expecting babies. I can now announce that Meadhbh (Kindy Teacher) is also expecting her first baby at the beginning of 2026. We look forward to welcoming these precious babies into our St Michael’s family.
On Monday 21 July our staff participated in a professional learning day focused on the ‘I for Innovation’ in our Vision for Learning motto Together We SHINE. Our staff investigated how to provide learning opportunities that foster critical and creative thinking through real world scenarios. Our Education Assistants also had professional learning, on strategies to support neurodiverse students in the classroom.
In supporting our community to grow as learners, I am always open to also providing learning opportunities for families as well. On Monday 11 August at 5:45pm in the Library, prior to our P&F Meeting at 6:00pm, we will be holding a short introduction to Cyber Wardens. Cyber Wardens is a free, federal government-backed program developed with support from Telstra and the Commonwealth Bank. It is designed to help everyday Australian small business owners and their teams to build simple, practical cyber safety habits, with no tech skills required. If you are a small business owner and would like free information on how to build better cybersecurity please come along.
May you all have a beautiful week ahead.
Michelle Christian Principal

Warm regards, Mrs Jo Borg & Mr Michael Sheridan
At the end of last term, our Year 3 students received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time in St Joseph’s Church. Surrounded by family members, they experienced God’s love, forgiveness and grace in a special and prayerful ceremony. We congratulate them on this important step in their faith journey.
To celebrate our Day of Friendship on the last day of Term 2, students came to school in their cosy pyjamas and enjoyed a special teddy bears picnic. Friendship fries were shared among classmates, spreading kindness and connection across the school Buddy activities brought students of all ages together, reinforcing the joy of friendship and community at St Michael’s.
At the end of Term 2, our Junior School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting brought together student representatives from Pre-Primary to Year 6. They shared their thoughtful ideas and suggestions on ways to improve and enhance our school community The meeting concluded with a special morning tea to thank them for their valuable contributions and leadership.
As part of the GROWTH Program, students in Years 4 to 6 participated in a range of engaging, hands-on activities tailored to their interests and strengths. From cheerleading and touch football to bike riding adventures, fidget factory creations and drama, students explored new skills and built confidence
The program fostered collaboration, creativity and a love of learning beyond the classroom.
Year 5 and 6 students took part in the moving ‘In My Pocket’ incursion, generously sponsored by the Town of Bassendean. This true story followed a young Jewish girl’s journey from Germany to Scotland as she fled the horrors of WWII The powerful incursion deepened students’ understanding of empathy, resilience and the impact of war on children and families.
During NAIDOC Week, St Michael’s School proudly celebrated and honoured First Nations culture, language, history and perspectives across all year levels. Students engaged in meaningful learning experiences that helped embed a deeper understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our celebrations included a special NAIDOC Mass led beautifully by the Year 3 class.
