President’s Note
To my Fellow Members of Starmount,
I am pleased to share some wonderful updates from our July Board of Directors meeting. Our club continues to thrive thanks to your enthusiastic participation:
Pool usage has surged, benefiting from the excellent weather
Golf rounds have exceeded our projections
Dining across all our facilities has seen a significant increase Our tennis and pickleball courts are bustling with activity.
Fitness class attendance remains strong.
Thank you for choosing Starmount for your dining and recreational needs. With a few weeks left in the summer season, I encourage you to take full advantage of our pool. Have you explored all the delicious offerings at the Splash Bar? Or have you tried every ice cream treat and fruit option from the Kid's Corner? If not, there's still time to enjoy these delights!
I'm also excited to announce that we have approved extending swimming access into September, depending on lifeguard availability and favorable weather conditions.
On a bittersweet note, we bid farewell to Sanja Vujinovic, who will be leaving Starmount after over 25 years of dedicated service. Sanja's journey with us began as a server and culminated in her role as Lead Banquet Manager She has been an invaluable part of our community and will be greatly missed Please join me in expressing our heartfelt gratitude for her many contributions
Lastly, let's give a special shoutout to SFCC member Robert Bain, who will serve as the 2024 General Chairman of the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro from August 7-11. Robert continues a proud family tradition, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Carson and his father Robert in this esteemed role.
Enjoy the rest of your summer, and I look forward to seeing you at Starmount!
Warm regards,
Greg Brown Club President
BEERS OF THE MONTH WinesoftheMonth
21st Amendment Brewery San Fransico, California
El Sully Mexican Lager $4.50 per can
Light Pilsner malt with a medium-sweet biscuit presence, but it is not overly sweet. The floral, earthy hop flavors blend right in with a low-key pleasant bitterness. Bright body with a slight apple note toward the end of the sip and a refreshing carbonic bite. It is enjoyable, light, and refreshing, with an excellent smoothness and crisp finish
"There
cannot be good living where there is not good drinking"
--Benjamin Franklin
White: Stoneleigh Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand $27 per bottle
This wine displays vibrant and punchy aromatics of passionfruit and fresh citrus with highlights of stone fruits and sweet basil. The palate is fresh and energetic, with good intensity. This wine demonstrates mouth-watering acidity and minerality to provide a lingering finish
Sean Minor Cabernet Paso Robles, California $29 per bottle
Rich, full, and lush on entry. Red plum, bing cherry, and raspberry torte create a velvety mid-palate experience with a touch of lavender and black cherry. Polished, soft tannins with cedar, dark chocolate, and savory notes produce a lengthy finish.

As the sun cranks up the heat, a few smart strategies will help you make the most of these sunny days while staying safe and energized.
Hydrate: Start sipping before you even lace up those sneakers, and keep hydrating throughout your session.
Time It Right: Early birds and night owls, rejoice! Plan your workouts for cooler parts of the day –early morning or late evening. Avoid the scorching midday sun if you can.
Dress the Part: Light-colored, loose-fitting clothing made from moisture-wicking fabrics is your new go-to. It keeps you comfortable by allowing sweat to evaporate quickly.
Protect Your Skin: Slather on that sunscreen! Opt for a sweat-proof, broad-spectrum SPF to shield yourself from those UV rays. Sunglasses and a hat with a brim are also a win-win.
Know Your Limits: Listen to your body If you start feeling dizzy, nauseous, or unusually fatigued, it’s time to take a break in the shade and rehydrate.
Mix It Up: On hot days, swap your high-intensity workouts for something a little gentler. Think yoga, swimming, or even a leisurely bike ride.
Buddy Up: Grab a friend and make it a social sweat session. Not only is it more fun, but it’s safer, too – you can keep an eye on each other’s well-being.
Cool Down Right: After your workout, treat yourself to a refreshing cool-down. A cold shower or a dip in the pool can work wonders for reducing your body temperature
Fuel Smart: Eat light and right. Opt for juicy fruits, crisp veggies, and light proteins to replenish electrolytes and keep your energy levels up.
