Dear Members,

A Note From Ray

Summer is off to a fantastic start, and we’re excited to celebrate the Independence Day holiday weekend with you! The festivities begin at 11:00 am with music and fun around the pool, continuing throughout the day. Chef Dicey has prepared a delicious seasonal buffet, and we’re thrilled to welcome back DJ Paul Cordts, who will set the perfect summer vibe once again.

You may have noticed that the waterfall and jets at the adult pool are not operating this year. Unfortunately, the health department has required modifications to the sump system in the pool apron before we can resume use of these features As this work would require a prolonged closure of the pool, we’ve made the decision to operate without them for the season and plan the necessary updates in time for next summer

I'm also pleased to announce the addition of eight new members in June seven Full Golf members and one Lifestyle member. A sincere thank you to everyone who sponsored these families. Your continued support in welcoming new members plays a vital role in the growth and success of our Club.

At its most recent meeting, the Board of Directors approved two new policies that will take effect on July 1st, 2025. These updates, recommended by our member-led committees, are designed to maintain the high quality and long-term sustainability of our Club’s amenities and services:

1. Service Charge at Bistro 59 Bar and Pool Facilities

As recommended by the House Committee, a 20% service charge will automatically be applied to all unsigned tickets at Bistro 59 Bar and the Splash Pool Bar. This ensures our bartenders are fairly and consistently compensated and helps us retain top-tier hospitality professionals. Thank you for your understanding and support.

2 Updated Tennis & Pickleball Guest Fees

Following a review by the Tennis & Pickleball Committee, guest fees will be updated to remain in line with other clubs in our region:

· Indoor Season Guest Fee: $15 per guest

· All Other Tennis & Pickleball Guest Fees: $10 per guest

As always, we ask that you please exercise caution when driving throughout the campus, especially during these busy summer months With many children enjoying our facilities, your attentiveness behind the wheel is essential to keeping everyone safe

Finally, please join me in congratulating Erica Ruhala, our Employee of the Month for July! Erica joined the team in 2017 as a Kids Corner Counselor and has since served in numerous roles including Bistro server, catering server, pool server, halfway house attendant, receptionist, and now, Bistro 59 Night Supervisor. Her versatility, positive attitude, and dedication are invaluable to our team. Erica is a graduate of UNC-G with a degree in hospitality, and she truly exemplifies what it means to be a model team member. Be sure to congratulate her on your next visit!

As always, I welcome your feedback Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have suggestions, concerns, or simply want to share what you love about your Club

Wishing you a safe, joyful, and memorable summer!

All the best,

President’s Note

To the Members of Starmount Forest Country Club,

The clubhouse remains bustling with activity, showcasing the vibrant community spirit that defines Starmount Forest. From the culinary events in the dining hall to the energetic matches on the tennis courts, members are taking full advantage of the amenities. We are also thrilled to see families enjoying the poolside spaces and the camaraderie fostered through various scheduled activities and gatherings. The upcoming months promise even more excitement as we introduce new programs and opportunities to enhance the Starmount experience

I had reached out to each of you earlier this month regarding the upcoming survey related to the Facilities Master Plan. We need your help and vision for the “What is Next” at Starmount. This survey will cover the entire campus, from Bistro 59 to the tennis courts. It is very important that we receive feedback from a large percentage of the membership, as this will drive the direction and priorities for how we address our facilities. The survey should be distributed within the next week, and your engagement in this process is crucial to shaping the future of the club. Please watch your inbox!

Over the past couple of months, we’ve had the pleasure of playing on reciprocal courses, and I’d love to hear about the highlights from our members. Whether it’s a hole-in-one, an eagle, or an impressive low round, these achievements deserve to be celebrated. Please share these memorable moments with me, as I’d like to include them in next month’s letter for everyone at Starmount Forest to enjoy and take pride in.

As we continue to enjoy all that Starmount Forest has to offer, I want to highlight the outstanding team of support personnel who work diligently behind the scenes to make every club experience exceptional Their dedication and attention to detail are at the heart of our community’s enjoyment, and it is important that we recognize and reward them for the invaluable service they provide. Next time you see a staff member going above and beyond, I encourage you to express your appreciation.

I hope to see you around the clubhouse. Please make sure to sign up for the club activities noted in the Focus.

Regards,

Golf Tips For July

Master aerified greens with firm putts and low chips for a smoother July round

July is peak season for golf course aerification a vital part of course maintenance that can test even the most patient golfers. While aerified greens may not be your favorite surface to play on, understanding how to adapt can give you a real edge over the competition.

Putting Through Sand and Bumps

Aerification often leaves a thin layer of sand across the greens, which can interfere with your putts. Even when most of the sand has been brushed into the holes, leftover grains can cling to your ball or putter face, causing mishits and inconsistent rolls.

To adjust:

Take extra care with your setup and stroke. Expect slower, less predictable speeds. Try putting with a bit more firmness, aiming a touch beyond the hole to help the ball stay on line and reduce the impact of bumps.

Chipping Smarter, Not Softer

When it comes to chipping around aerified greens, height is not your friend. High, soft shots are more likely to land in a sand-filled hole and bounce unpredictably.

Instead:

Choose a lower-lofted club, like an 8- or 9-iron. Play a bump-and-run to keep the ball low and rolling smoothly. Focus on getting the ball on the ground quickly to minimize the impact of surface imperfections.

With the right strategy, you can turn a frustrating situation into a scoring opportunity.

Outdoor Sports = SPF Check

UV Safety Awareness Month highlights the risks associated with ultraviolet (UV) radiation and promotes sun safety to prevent skin cancer, eye damage, and premature aging.

Tips to Stay UV Safe:

Seek Shade: Avoid direct sun, especially from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Wear Protective Clothing: Use long sleeves, pants, and wide-brimmed hats.

Use Sunscreen: Apply SPF 30+ broad-spectrum sunscreen and reapply frequently.

Protect Your Eyes: Wear sunglasses that block at least 99% of UV rays.

Watch Reflections: UV rays bounce off water, and sand.

July Nutrition Nugget:

Hydrate with your Plate!

Hot summer days mean hydration is more important than ever—and it’s not just about what you drink. Many fruits and veggies are packed with water and can help keep you cool and refreshed all season long. Watermelon, cucumbers, strawberries, oranges, and lettuce are all over 90% water!

Pro Tip: Add sliced cucumber and mint to your water for a refreshing twist or toss a fruit salad with berries and melon for a hydrating, nutrientpacked snack Eating your water is a fun, flavorful way to stay energized and beat the heat this July!

Trainer Tip (Amanda): SLEEP

Getting quality sleep is one of the most effective ways to boost your overall health. While you rest, your body repairs muscles, balances hormones, and recharges your brain. Sleep strengthens your immune system, improves mood, supports mental clarity, and helps regulate appetite. It also sharpens memory, focus, and decision-making So, prioritize sleep it's just as vital as exercise and healthy eating.

Exercise of the Month!

Exercise of the Month: The Dead Bug

Looking for a core move that strengthens your abs and improves stability? Meet your new favorite: the Dead Bug! This deceptively simple exercise engages your deep core muscles while helping improve coordination and protect your lower back great for beginners and seasoned athletes alike.

How to Do It:

1.Lie on your back with your arms extended toward the ceiling and your knees bent at a 90degree angle.

2.Slowly extend your right arm and left leg toward the floor simultaneously, keeping your back flat.

3.Return to the starting position, then switch to the other side

4.Aim for 10–12 reps per side, 2–3 sets.

Why We Love It:

Builds a strong, stable core Protects the lower back Improves posture and coordination

Try adding it to your warm-up or core routine your abs will thank you! Want a demo? Ask a trainer or stop by the Wellness Center!
