CLLR FAROOQ, LEADER OF PETERBOROUGH COUNCIL MENTIONS PETERBOROUGH COLLEGE IN HIS LATEST COLUMN

Leader of the Peterborough City Council, Cllr Farooq, praised the College for his education in his latest column, following his feature on the Peterborough College website. He said, ‘I attended Peterborough College back in the 1980s as an Electrical Installation student. My education and experiences there gave me a great platform to build a career which I will always be grateful for.’

He added ‘This college, along with others and our new university are ensuring that new generations are getting similar opportunities which bodes well for our city’s future.’

CHI ONWURAH MP, LABOUR SHADOW MINISTER FOR SCIENCE AND ANDREW PAKES, LABOUR AND COOPERATIVE PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATE FOR PETERBOROUGH, VISIT PETERBOROUGH COLLEGE

In celebration of International Women’s Day, Chi Onwurah MP, Labour Shadow Minister for Science, visited Peterborough College on Friday 8 March, to engage with students and staff around Women and Diversity in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

The visit, proposed by Andrew Pakes, Labour and Cooperative Parliamentary Candidate for Peterborough, highlighted the importance of encouraging more women and girls to pursue careers in STEM fields. Chi Onwurah, with an impressive and established background in Engineering, is a passionate advocate for the green agenda, technology, and STEM subjects and the role they play in developing economic prosperity within our regions.

Peterborough City Council also shared the College’s post featuring Cllr Farooq on Facebook, sparking a number of shares and positive words about the College. This included shares from Cllr Shabina Qayyum (local GP, Presenter at Salaam Radio, and Labour Party Councillor) as well as Roger Antunes from Peterborough First!

The passionate MP delivered a speech to staff and students, particularly aspiring girls and women, emphasising the significance of diversity and inclusion in STEM, particularly on International Women’s Day.

Chi’s visit was featured on CambsNews.co.uk (you can read it here) as well as Chi tweeting about the visit herself, a significant number of MPs across the country retweeted this including Andrew Pakes MP, Lilian Greenwood, Labour MP for Nottingham South and Ashley Dalton, Labour MP for West Lancashire. The Association of Colleges, with a sizeable following of 31,500 also shared our post and tagged us.

PETERBOROUGH COLLEGE AND STAMFORD COLLEGE HOSTS CONSTRUCTION AND ENGINEERING SKILLS CAREER EVENT, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SOUTH LINCOLNSHIRE GROUP TRAINING ASSOCIATION

Nurturing the skillset of tomorrow’s workforce, Peterborough College and Stamford College hosted a Construction and Engineering Skills Career Event for local school students, in partnership with South Lincolnshire Group Training Association.

Hundreds of students from King Edward Academy, Ambergate Sports College, Catmose College, Stamford Welland Academy, Corby Business Academy, The Deepings School and Earlsfield Youth Centre, Nene Park Academy, Thomas Clarkson Academy, Marshfields School, Casterton College, Arthur Mellows Village College, Ken Stimpson Community School, and St Peters School Huntingdon enjoyed a wide variety of hands-on activities, from clay sculpting, earth structures and brickwork, to plumbing, tiling and electrical.

INSPIRE EDUCATION GROUP CELEBRATE NATIONAL CAREERS WEEK

In celebration of National Careers Week, students across Inspire Education Group had the opportunity to hear from a range of guest lecturers. Business Studies students were delighted to hear from BBC’s ‘The Apprentice’ 2022 Finalist, Kathryn Burn, who delivered an exciting guest lecture and workshop.

We were thrilled to welcome Inspire Education Group Corporation Member, Suneel Appan, who delivered a guest lecture to our A Level Chemistry and Biology students. Suneel explored his career journey, and his current role as a Client Account Manager for the largest producer of biomethane in the UK, Future Biogas Limited.

Each activity was kindly supported by a local industry provider. Inspire Education Group thanks the representatives of the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), Crowley Associates, Essential Site Skills, George Barnsdale, National Grid Network Services, Daniel Charles Construction, Millstone Heritage Training, VINCI Building, Integrated Health Projects of Vinci Construction UK, Mick George, Inspire2Ignite, and Keymer UK of Wienerberger, TunnelSkills, London Bridge Associates, GBSG, Urban and Civic, and Balfour Beatty for sharing your invaluable expertise.

Our Year 1 and Year 2 Media students visited locally-based, Warners Midlands where they received an insightful tour from Marketing Director, Michael Warner, learning about the printing processes for magazines, brochures and catalogues.

UCP CELEBRATES CREATIVITY WITH DEGREE SHOWCASE AT KEY THEATRE

University Centre Peterborough held a vibrant two-day Creative Showcase at the Key Theatre, captivating audiences with a diverse range of artistic expressions. For two days, the event offered a platform for UCP’s talented students to showcase their work, fostering a dynamic exchange between aspiring artists and the Peterborough community.

Visitors to the Digital Arts exhibit were treated to a dazzling display of cuttingedge technology and imaginative creations. From 10am on both days, stunning 3D and interactive installations explored diverse themes, captivating audiences with their originality and depth.

PETERBOROUGH COLLEGE HOST DEPUTY MAYOR OF CAMBRIDGESHIRE AND PETERBOROUGH COMBINED AUTHORITY (CPCA), CLLR ANNA SMITH

Peterborough College proudly welcomed Deputy Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA), Cllr Anna Smith, today as part of the celebrations for #CollegesWeek2024. The visit, which took place during the Association of Colleges’ Colleges Week, marked an important opportunity to showcase the pivotal role of Inspire Education Group in shaping the local community and the direct correlation between quality education and economic prosperity.

Cllr Anna Smith toured key areas of the College and heard about the group’s innovative developments and forwardthinking approach to teaching and learning, such as the recent Google Reference status the group has received from Google for its use, development and deployment of technology in the classroom.

Cllr Smith also visited one of our T Level subject areas, where qualifications are designed in collaboration with leading local employers to pioneer change in our further education provision, before ending her visit with an exclusive on-site tour around the site of our exciting new Centre for Green Technology.

INSPIRE EDUCATION GROUP MARKETING TEAM RECOGNISED AT CMN FE FIRST AWARDS 2024

The Marketing department at Inspire Education Group was recognised at the College Marketing Network’s FE First Awards 2024. The prestigious event, highly regarded in the sector, is the only one of its kind to solely celebrate marketing in the further education arena, and IEG’s very own were honoured to receive 3 awards.

The grand ceremony unfolded at the Crowne Plaza in Birmingham City Centre, where marketing teams and individuals in colleges and sixth forms from across the country gathered to celebrate their collective achievements in 15 categories.

Before long, Inspire Education Group were called to the stage, having secured both a Silver Award in the Innovation and Creativity category, and Gold in the Low Budget Campaign division, in recognition of the School Liaison ‘Mythbuster’ programme.

BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE: GREEN SKILLS AND EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES TAKE CENTRE STAGE AT IEG EVENT

Inspire Education Group connected Green Skills Educators and leading construction employers to spotlight the critical intersection of green skills and emerging technologies for local skill enhancement.

The event was a pivotal platform for stakeholders and industry experts to share insights and explore innovative solutions to bridge the gap between education and industry demands, cultivating partnerships to tackle the challenges of tomorrow’s construction landscape and local skills improvement.

The agenda featured representatives from Inspire Education Group, including CEO Rachel Nicholls and Assistant Principal Gary McPartland, who talked about IEG’s commitment to green skills training, such as introducing decarbonisation, electric vehicle technologies, and retrofit into our curriculum.

IEG’s triumph continued into the night, with the team securing the Silver Award in the Internal Impact category, in acknowledgment of their heart-warming initiative, @stamfordeddication. An Instagram account that digitises the developmental journey of Eddi, Stamford College’s Trainee Therapy Dog.

The event was made possible thanks to an injection of funding from the Local Skills Improvement Fund (LSIF), allowing IEG to deliver new curriculum and students to access new trades associated with low carbon technology. The new courses and equipment will support over 200 students by March 2025.
