Welcome to the 4th Issue of 'United', the official Matchday Programme of Springfield United.
This weekend we see our FQPL 4 Men and FQPL 3 Women kick off their 2023 Campaigns. After solid Pre-Season results and smart recruiting across the board, we feel both of these squads have what it takes to have a successful year.
The SUFC Cup comes to a close for another year, with finals being played throughout this weekend. On behalf of the club, I'd like to thank all visiting teams for participating in the 2023 edition of the Cup, we hope you enjoyed the facilities and games, and we wish you the best for the upcoming season.
Next week will see over 400 Mini-Roos players start their training for the season, with multiple teams in every age group from U6U12. As the largest section of the club, we cannot wait for the MiniRoos to get into the swing of it for the season.
Enjoy this Issue of 'United'.
After a long Pre-Season, the first round of the FQPL 4 season is nearly here.
To say I'm excited is an understatement, and the lads replicate that feeling.
After bowing out of the Australia Cup, we have had a few weeks to work on some things before the season, which is something I was very keen to get stuck into as soon as I got back from Scotland.
Tarragindi are a well organised team, which we saw first hand last season. Playing at their place is a challenge and they play the conditions well, so a big focus this week has been how can we adapt to playing on a smaller park, while not diverting too far away from our style of play.
This current crop of players are a joy to coach and more importantly, a joy to watch play. I hope throughout 2023 we can provide great entertainment for our fans, which I'm confident we can do because all of the lads are enjoying their Football at the moment.
Nothing beats the feeling of a new season rolling around, and I'm really looking forward to getting into the thick of this league and seeing how far we can go in 2023.
We have been working hard this preseason to prepare ourselves for what I personally see as a defining season for women's football in our community. This year we have set goals and that starts by taking on Souths united.
Souths have always produced a strong women's program, they will be a strong opponent throughout the season, a team that may well see them in the top 4.
We approach this game with intent to put the rest of the league on notice. We are not here to have a go, we are not here to make up numbers but we are here to become a power house in women's football.
15YEARS 08 23
To do this we will take on step at a time, with that first step making 'The Summit' our fortress. With the likes of Dani White and Cass Mohr controlling the midfield, creating attacking opportunities, Teagan Esom, Chloe Butler and Ariana Klose are all threating in front of goals, we are in for treat with our opening round.
Round one is finally here and our FQPL4 men kick of their season against last seasons FQPL5 rivals, Tarragindi Tigers at Esher Street at 6pm on Saturday night.
The lads have put in the hard work having come up against some well structured sides in pre-season albeit from lower divisions. Will also feel lifted after an Australia Cup 4-3 win against Kingscliff Wolves from FQPL3 South Coast and a dominant display against FQPL3 Metro side North Brisbane despite the loss.
Declan will want to ensure the side are up and ready to claim all 3 points in the season opener in what is sure to be a very tight FQPL4 league in 2023. For your weekly footy fix, be sure to head down to Esher Street Saturday Night for the game.
U23s also play their grand final rematch against Tarragindi at 4pm.
One of the few teams to push our men's side to the limit in 2022 having been the only team to take all 3 points from our men’s over the entire season.
Tarragindi will want to prove that they can still mix it with the top sides in FQPL4 despite losing key player, Tyson Walpole who ironically has signed for Springfield United for the 2023 season.
Our FQPL Women’s also kick off their season on Saturday Night at ‘The Summit’ against FQPL3 Metro Women’s newcomers, Souths United at 6pm.
After a long and competitive pre-season filled with impressive results including a 0-0 draw with UQFC and a 2-2 draw with Broadbeachboth clubs in higher divisions. Our women’s side will be raring to get their season off to a winning start to set the one for the year.
Having been somewhat competitive last season, Coach Lucas will be striving for a top 4 finish this year with even the possibility of promotion being discussed.
With several key players signed as well as retained, there is every reason to be optimistic in 2023 about our senior women’s side. Be sure to head down to ’The Summit’ as the u23s kick off at 4pm before the big game at 6pm ‘The CrossBar’ will also be open for all your food and beverage needs!
A club like Souths United are one you always have to respect, regardless of the level that particular team is at.
Souths have kept their cards close to their chest this Pre-Season, so the girls will have to be on their A-Game from the first minute.

When creating winning teams, it's easy to focus on individual talents and skills But what about the power of community in supporting winning teams? Andy Nutton and Kristian Samuels believe great communities can significantly support a team's success.
"A strong community is the foundation of a team's achievements, and I believe it's one reason Springfield United is such a successful club – we have an unshakeable community both at the club and across Greater Springfield," Nutton said
Veteran SUFC member, Nutton has been a part of SUFC since 2008 "I've played at a few clubs, and SUFC is by far the standout – I love how friendly and supportive everyone is "
As Director and Principal at Purple Cow Real Estate in Springfield Lakes, Nutton knew it was important for his team to give back to the local community as Springfield United's Premier Partner in 2023. "We saw an opportunity to support our community and invest in the future of our local athletes," Nutton said.
Samuels, who kicks off his second season with SUFC in 2023, is a fan of the family-orientated and diverse community culture enjoyed at the club
"It's like the whole neighbourhood is out together some days, and I find focusing on the game as a team is also the best thing for releasing a busy week," Samuels said
Besides football, Nutton and Samuel's other passion is, of course, real estate You'll find them helping local property owners and investors sell and lease homes with the Purple Cow team when they're not on the pitch
"Purple Cow is a genuinely local team We're not a small 'one man band' or a corporate franchise – so we have the power and flexibility of a strong and experienced team – and we wholeheartedly care about our community, " Nutton states.
"We're also different from other agencies – our focus on quality property marketing can take a good sale price to a wow sale price," Samuels reiterated
Greater Springfield doesn't typically conform to the broader Queensland or national property trends. Our community has so much new infrastructure and amenity development that it essentially creates its own property market. While many other areas are experiencing a downturn, Greater Springfield is bucking the trend. We recommend regularly speaking with our local experts to get correct information about your property and our local market's position at any given time.
There is nothing worse than undervaluing your home. Make sure you choose a local team that knows the area and understands what Greater Springfield has to offer for buyers and tenants. Like football, it's always best to have the home team advantage. Having a knowledgeable local team will also understand the hidden value in your property, the village, and our market, which will translate to a better outcome for you
Talk to the Purple Cow team for a 'health check' on your property You'll learn valuable insights such as a price update, suburb market reports, current demand for your home, and a rental appraisal. Also, discuss simple suggestions that could add value to your home because first impressions count, and this advice can help your property stand out. Also remember to be diligent, do research, ask questions, and have a clear strategy.
We're proud to be a part of SUFC's season and look forward to continuing to support our community. If you're selling or leasing a property in 2023, ask us about Purple Cow's Member's Premium Package to increase your success in the property market.

I’m happy to say that goalkeeper training has started this week.
Specialised goalkeeper training is critical in a keepers development and I will be working closely with Rodney and Brownie to ensure that our younger goalkeepers develop the key elements in positioning, catching, diving, distribution & more.
Having been a goalkeeper myself this is something I’m very passionate about and I'm looking forward to seeing our younger goalkeepers develop over time.
One final thing I will say is young goalkeepers will make mistakes & developing technique in goalkeepers takes a long time so please be patient with your teams goalkeeper.

Springfield United's new leader Gill is eager to build on the tremendous work of former club president Scott Harding who oversaw a massive growth in player and team numbers.
“He's done a hell of a lot to get us to where we are now - from a couple of nights a week at Woodcrest (College) and a couple of hundred kids to probably 1200 this year,” Gill said.
“He's left a good legacy.”
In his seventh year at the club, Gill expects between 90 and 100 teams this season.
Due to the massive growth, the club has secured an additional field at the Springfield Central Sports Complex for training and matches. Springfield United's top men's side has been strengthened by Rhys Webster from Western Pride and Tyson Walpole from Tarragindi.
Walpole scored a goal for his new club in their earlier 4-3 Australia Cup victory. Springfield's goal ace Rhys Phipps continued where he left off last season with a double.
The men's and under-23 club sides also successfully defended the Springfield Cup pre-season titles.
Springfield United's first premiership game is against Tarragindi away on March 4.
Gill was confident the club would also field women's sides and a Legends Over 30 team this season.
“The pathway that we've been building over the few years is starting to come to fruition,” he said.
“Five girls from last year's under 16s have pushed into the 23's squad as well, which is good to see."
With 3 Springfield teams a chance of making the SUFC Cup final, it all came down to the wire in our round 3 match ups.
SUFC Gold kicked off the round playing for their first win against Oxley who were also chasing 3 points. Oxley struck first leading 2-0 early before SUFC Gold were able to bring it back to 2-2. Chasing a goal to get their first win it was the man so good we have to say his name twice, Htoo Htoo scoring on the break to bring the full-time score 3-2 in favour of Springfield
Next up was the interclub match between SUFC White and SUFC Silver. After Wynnum were able to beat Toowong 3-0, this match was about bragging rights at the club. Both sides were able to find goals with Sam Chadwick (SUFC’s resident tap-in merchant) and Nathan Crowley scoring for Silver and White respectively With the scores level for most of the game it was young Rory Duncan who as able to turn his defender and bury his shot leaving the game 2-1 in favour of SUFC white.
The final match, a semi-final of sorts between Moggil and SUFC Blue, with a win securing a spot in the SUFC Metro Cup grand final. The game had everything, from sin-bins to both teams, big hits, red cards being turned to yellows and a red card to the Moggil coach. However the game was missing a goal, the biggest opportunity was a penalty to SUFC which was missed meaning the game finished at 0-0 and Moggil heading to the final on goal difference.
SUFC have a chance for bronze with a 5pm game against Toowong in which will be another close game.

RESIDENT OVERS PEST AND DINGOES CEO DOUG RADLOFF DRINKING HIS SORROWS AWAY AFTER NEWCASTLE LOST THE CARABAO CUP FINAL ON MONDAY MORNING
Four weeks of Springfield Cup action will reach its crescendo on Friday, with the club still in the hunt to claim the over-35 and over-45 crowns.
In the over-35s, Springfield Blue (division 2) and Springfield Silver (division 3) will meet in the grand final at 6.30pm on Field 1A after cruising through their groups with three wins from as many games. Runners up in Group A with two wins and a loss, Springfield Gold (division 5) will face second-placed Group B side Toowong at 6.30pm on Field 2A.
With the over-35 title destined to stay at The Summit, Springfield Gold (division 1) can make it double delight when they tackle Toowong in the over-45 decider at 6.30pm on Field 1B. Both teams won three from three in the preliminary rounds to top their groups.
Fourth in Group A, Springfield Silver (division 3) face Blackstone at 8.30pm on Field 1A, while Springfield Blue (division 2) will meet Moggill at the same time in on Field 2A after finishing fourth in Group B.
Coming off a 4-3 win over QCSA division 1 over-40s champions St Catherine’s, Springfield’s division 6 over-35s will continue their pre-season with a trip to Ormeau on Friday night. Division 7 will also make the trip down the M1 hoping to put last week’s loss to the St Catherine’s over-30 division 1 side behind them.

FORMER ABERDEEN AND DUNDEE UNITED MANAGER ALEX SMITH BELIEVES SCOTTISH FOOTBALL HAS LOST THE PLOT AS THE MANAGERIAL MERRY-GOROUND SPINS EVER FASTER.
Former Scottish League Managers Association chief Smith, who moved to Australia after retiring from his role as technical director of Falkirk in 2018, is saddened to see the lack of patience being shown in the game.
He said: “The game in Scotland has gone crazy. The managerial merry-go-round is unbelievable. “It’s crazy what’s happening and I think the SFA should be thinking of a way to intervene to stop this “Should they put a financial penalty on a club taking in a young manager and then binning him after six or nine months?
“I know it’s extreme but we’re chasing people out of the game all over the place yet poor choices in boardrooms seem to be allowed to continue every season.”
Smith believes the rise of social media has not helped with directors throughout the country falling into the trap of being easily swayed by dissenting voices.
He said: “I look at the game now and I see clubs listening to every moan and complaint from social media."
