Glendalough 2021 FAREWELL MASS/ ASSEMBLY/LUNCH The end of the 2021 academic year provided two significant events that enabled students to come together and reflect on their time at Glendalough. On Tuesday 30 November, the Year 6 students displayed their leadership through their final assembly. Young men from each homeroom spoke of the challenges they have faced as a cohort with remote learning, reflected on what it means to be a Glendalough boy and how they can use the skills taught here to help them as they venture forward. On Wednesday 1 December, the students shared a celebratory meal together in the company of their peers, homeroom teachers and St Kevin’s College leadership. Students were able to reflect on their achievements while at Glendalough and also during a challenging 2021.

2021 YEAR 6 ALTERNATIVE CAMP PROGRAM – POINT NEPEAN With the easing of restrictions and the return to onsite learning, the Year 6 cohort were able to experience elements of the Outdoor Education Program at Point Nepean National Park in Portsea. Students were able to spend time together exploring the local surroundings of Point Nepean and discover how these parts protected Melbourne and Victoria from possible invasion during the Gold Rush era. Students explored ruins, tunnels and hiked through the lands of the Bunurong people. Students also discovered the important role of this area as a quarantine station for people first arriving into Victoria. Old fortified ruins and armaments with their crumbling walls and growing vines, encouraged students to imagine days of the past when life had its own challenges to face. This experience was enjoyed by all.

On Thursday 2 December, the Year 6 students gathered in Boyd Egan Hall to participate in a Farewell Mass. This service enabled the students to reflect on the spiritual journey that they have undertaken throughout their time at Glendalough. It provided a well needed opportunity for students, teaching staff and parents to gather together one final time as a community.
