As the school gradually returned after yet another shutdown, sport was once again slowly regaining momentum. It is extremely unfortunate that, for the second year, both Athletics and Waterpolo were unable to have their seasons. 2022 will see a renewed effort to relaunch both programs to ensure that all students have the opportunity to participate in our spring sports, in particular the APS Athletics Carnival. Congratulations to our two Spring Captains, Hamish MacMillan (Waterpolo) and Sam Cantwell (Athletics), who worked extremely hard in ensuring the enthusiasm for both sports did not wane over the lockdown periods.
A highlight of the return to school were the sports days organised for Years 7-9 students at Tooronga Sports Fields to enable boys to participate in a range of sports such as soccer, skittles, European handball, and kickball which was greatly received by all students. All boys are looking forward to the full House carnival program returning in 2022.

In November, summer sports slowly returned to games with increased participation opportunities for all students. It was great to see Cricket, Tennis, Volleyball, Badminton, Futsal, Swimming, Rowing and Diving all have matches/ races/meets against other APS schools for some very good success. A highlight was the final ball victory by the 1st XI Cricket team against Scotch College in their 50over match.
December allowed the Rugby community to finally get together to celebrate the season and, more importantly, the presentation of the VSRU Premiership Cup to the Captain of Rugby, Lachlan Peel, by the President of the VSRU, Mr William Doherty. It was fitting that many Year 12 students attended the event which was conducted after their VCE examinations.

Over the summer holiday period, the College will continue to be busy with boys returning after their holidays for training days, camps and competition. Thanks go to the staff who take time over their summer break to coach these teams as they prepare for the return of the APS summer season in February.
Mr Tom Courtney Dean of Sport
