Whenyou choose to shop in South Jordan this holiday season, you’ll be getting more than a great gift. You will be giving yourself, neighbors, and family the gift of better roads, beautiful parks, and quick response times when you need them most. That’s because every purchase made in South Jordan helps fund the city services and amenities that make this community a safe, vibrant place to live.
As of October 1, 2025, South Jordan’s combined sales tax rate is 7.45%, with 1% going to cities. Those dollars make a difference. They fund essential services like police and fire protection, parks and trail maintenance, snow plowing, road repair, and recreation programs. In fact, sales tax is the single largest revenue source for the City, making up about 40% of South Jordan’s General Fund.
When residents shop outside the city, those dollars, and the benefits they bring go somewhere else. But when you shop in South Jordan, your spending stays here, helping maintain
the high-quality services and amenities that make this community one of Utah’s most desirable places to live.
Population growth also plays a role. South Jordan’s rapid growth means the City receives a larger share of statedistributed sales tax revenue, but that only helps when people shop here. Continued local spending ensures those funds keep pace with community needs as South Jordan grows.
Shopping local also strengthens our economy in other ways. Local and national businesses within South Jordan create jobs, sponsor community events, and add vibrancy to our neighborhoods. City leaders and staff work year-round to support a balanced business environment, one that welcomes both small, homegrown shops, and national retailers that add value and variety.
In 2025 alone, new businesses like Hires Big H, Dunkin’ Donuts, Ace Hardware, Five Below, Liv Pure Açaí, Hikari Sushi, Moena Café, Dollar Tree, Mooyah

Every dollar spent locally helps fund the services, spaces, and programs that make South Jordan strong.
Burgers & Fries, Kenny J’s BBQ, Fullmer Legacy Center, Restoration Hardware, and the Megaplex Downtown Daybreak joined our community. And more are on the way in 2026, including BubbaKoo’s Burritos and Golden Plaza Restaurant.
So this holiday season, as you make your shopping list, consider keeping it close to home. Supporting South Jordan businesses supports the quality of life we all enjoy and ensures our city stays strong for the future. Before clicking “add to cart” or driving to a neighboring town, think about the impact of your purchase. Shopping in South Jordan means investing in your parks, your roads, your safety, and your community.

Mary and Kenny Jackson
Some of the best ideas start over good food and great conversation, and that’s how Kenny J’s BBQ was born. For Kenny and Mary Jackson, barbecue isn’t just about smoked meats, it’s about community. What began in 2018 with a backyard smoker and a passion for sharing meals turned into a full-fledged catering business known for its heart and hospitality.
When times were tough in 2020, the Jacksons gave back, feeding neighbors and friends when it mattered most. Today, their two 1,000-gallon off-set smokers and rotisserie smoker fuel everything from weddings to charity events, serving up brisket from Sunbow Distributing, a local meat supplier, and scratch-made sides inspired by their travels across Texas and beyond.
At Kenny J’s, there are no shortcuts, just time, care, and a whole lot of love. Stop by, grab a plate, and experience why South Jordan is proud to call Kenny J’s BBQ part of the family.

As we head into winter and the weather turns cold—gloves, coats, and brisk mornings often mean our routines take a bit longer, and travel requires a little more patience. Snow, ice, and cold are part of life in Utah, and it’s an important
time for us to look out for each other.
Personal preparation is key for winter safety, and so is kindness in action. Checking in on older neighbors, fami-
lies with young children, or anyone who might need an extra hand makes a real difference. If you’re already shoveling your walk or clearing a driveway, doing one or two more nearby is a simple act that means a lot. Many of our seniors take great pride in their independence, but

that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t feel supported when conditions get tough.
Our awesome Public Works crew works tirelessly—often before dawn and on holidays—to plow, treat, and prepare our roads. Their work helps keep us safe, but each of us have a part to play. Please take a few minutes to check your tires and washer fluid, drive a little slower, and give yourself and others extra space. And remember to clear snow off your car before driving, those chunks can quickly turn into hazards for others on the road.
As we move into the holiday season, we’ll gather with family and friends, travel more, and celebrate the traditions we love. Preparedness and patience help make those moments safer and more enjoyable for everyone.
One of my favorite things about South Jordan is that you already do this. You care. You notice. You step in when someone needs help. Thank you for the kindness you show one another and for making South Jordan such a wonderful place to call home. On behalf of our city council we wish you a Merry Christmas, a Happy Hanukkah, and a safe, peaceful, and joyful holiday season for you and your families.
Remember Newton’s first law of motion when driving in winter: an object in motion stays in motion. This means more distance is required for vehicles to slow down or change directions on slippery roads, so don’t speed, avoid quick stops and starts, and keep extra distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.
