MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY
City Council Liaison Don Shelton
DAY DIRECTORS
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday celebrated to honor the life and legacy of civil rights leader Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He left for us a powerful message of racial equality and justice and we celebrate this by striving to make a positive impact in our own community. Dr. King fought for the rights and dignity of all people and his legacy inspires us to continue working toward a more just and equitable world. In his famous “I Have a Dream” speech which was delivered on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in 1963, Dr. King speaks of a hopeful future where freedom rings from every mountain and hill in our nation. Now, over 60 years later, we are closer, but there is still work to do. I invite you to read the speech in it’s entirety at the website below. We will be closed Monday, January 20 in honor of this vital holiday. https://www.npr.org/2010/01/18/122701268/i-have-a-dream-speech-in-its-entirety
