Asmore people choose to live and work in South Jordan, the City is committed to exploring various solutions to address traffic congestion and infrastructure demands. Among these solutions, transit and active transportation play vital roles in meeting the City’s transportation needs.
Transit
Transit includes public transportation such as TRAX, bus routes, or Utah Transit Authority’s (UTA’s) services. One significant development is the addition of a third TRAX stop in South Jordan, expected to be completed by spring 2025. This new stop, situated between the South Jordan Parkway and Daybreak Parkway Stations, will serve the new urban center, including the ballpark, retail areas, and housing in the area.
The UTA is conducting several transit studies, including a comprehensive review of transit services in the south end of Salt Lake County. Another study focuses on bus transit along 5600 W. (Grandville Avenue). South Jordan
actively participates in these discussions to ensure that the City’s interests are represented.
Active Transportation
South Jordan is currently updating its Transportation Master Plan, which includes an Active Transportation Plan. This plan emphasizes the development of pedestrian and cycling infrastructure to encourage alternative modes of transportation.
As part of the Regional Transportation Plan, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has proposed the expansion of 11400 South, incorporating protected bike lanes. These lanes would provide a safer and more practical route for cyclists traveling east-west through South Jordan. Additionally, South Jordan is studying solutions to make Shields Lane more bicycle and pedestrian friendly.
The Importance of Options
The availability of both transit and active transportation options offers residents and visitors greater flexibility in how they
navigate the city and the surrounding areas. This diversity in transportation modes promotes equity by ensuring that everyone has access to essential services and recreational opportunities, regardless of vehicle ownership.
Furthermore, transit systems are highly efficient at moving large numbers of people, thereby reducing congestion on roadways and mitigating the environmental impact of vehicle emissions. By investing in transit and active transportation infrastructure, South Jordan aims to create a more sustainable and accessible community for all its residents.
South Jordan’s commitment to exploring transit and active transportation solutions reflects its proactive approach to addressing the challenges posed by growth. By prioritizing these initiatives, the City strives to enhance mobility, reduce congestion, and foster a healthier environment for current and future generations.
WHO YIELDS AT ROUNDABOUTS?
Remember that drivers that are entering a roundabout must yield to the vehicles that are already in the roundabout. When approaching a roundabout be sure and look to the left and yield to the vehicles coming around the roundabout. Scan the QR code to watch a quick video.

DOWDLE PUZZLE UNVEILED
This year marks the 165th since our city was founded and I can’t imagine a better time to have unveiled our very own Dowdle puzzle! These puzzles, created by local artist Eric Dowdle, are beloved keepsakes for communities all across the country. At the unveiling I placed a piece of the puzzle in the brand new public art mural at Heritage Park, and it fills me with immense pride to have been a part of the creation of this testament to South Jordan’s rich history and bright future. This puzzle captures the spirit of our community, highlighting the milestones and heritage that define us. The beautiful mural is located between the Community Center and Heritage Park Splash Pad, I hope you’ll stop by and check it out.
From humble beginnings rooted in hillside dugouts carved by pioneering
settlers, to the thriving, dynamic city we are today, South Jordan’s journey is one of resilience and growth. The puzzle weaves together these elements. There are also several community members depicted in the art, representing a few of the many, past and present, who have dedicated their efforts to shaping our city.
The Dowdle puzzle beautifully captures iconic elements of our city, from the bustling streets of our annual SoJo Summerfest to the serene beauty of the Jordan River. It honors the victims of the 1938 bus accident, which changed bus laws across America after we lost 25 students and the driver in that tragic accident. It also pays tribute to the industrious spirit of our early farmers, and the enduring legacy of several multi-generational South Jordan families, including the Jones family, who

raised buffalo in the community for nearly half a century.
This puzzle also shows the progress and development that continue to shape South Jordan; from Mulligans to Bingham Creek, and Glenmoor to the bustling Daybreak development, with Oquirrh Lake and soon-to-be minor league baseball. It highlights our three temples, the newly annexed foothills of the Oquirrh Mountains, and our Home of the Miners, Bingham High School, which has been a beacon in our community since 1908.
This artistic effort beautifully illustrates so much about why we love living in one of the best cities in America. They are available to purchase for just $20 (plus tax). I would invite you to collect a piece of South Jordan’s history by picking up your own copy of the Dowdle puzzle, available at South Jordan City Hall during our regular hours.
