ATHE ROAD AHEAD: INFRASTRUCTURE, HOUSING, and SUSTAINABILITY

s city manager, it is both an honor and a privilege to serve the community of South Jordan in implementing the vision and policies of the mayor and city council. I am excited about the future of our community as our team continues to work on enhancing our public infrastructure, developing our economic vitality, adding desirable amenities, and improving the overall quality of life for our residents so that our city remains the community of choice in the Salt Lake Valley.

The questions residents ask me the most include, “What is the City doing about growth?”, “What is the plan for transportation?”, and “What is the City doing about affordable housing?” These are important questions for the many people choosing to live in our community.

We live in the heart of a complex and connected urban environment, and how we travel from one place to another is foundational to how we live our lives. Whether you use public transit, a personal vehicle, bike, or other modes, we need a viable transportation infrastructure network. No matter where life takes you–commuting to work, shuttling kids, visiting friends, or grabbing groceries–we all deserve to travel safely and efficiently.

We have been working to ensure that our transportation needs will be met now and into the future. A new UTA TRAX station will be opening in early 2025 to help people travel

to the new baseball stadium and to the recently announced performing arts center that will soon be under construction along with many other exciting destinations in the new downtown area. UDOT will also soon start the next phase of construction on the Mountain View Corridor to enhance north/south movement on the valley’s west side. Studies

are underway to explore alternative ways to travel (biking, walking, etc.) along the 9800 South corridor.

While there are many places to live, few offer such a great blend of clean, safe neighborhoods like those found in our community. The City continues to look for ways to address affordable housing concerns and is working with all stakeholders, including legislators, developers, non-profits, builders, and potential

future homeowners, to find solutions to this complex challenge that we currently face.

Continued growth requires innovative solutions for providing water, including maintaining an effective water conservation program and developing future water supply projects like Pure SoJo. By partnering with all City water users, we can ensure a stable future for our water supply.

In just a short time, you will receive our 2024 Annual Report, which highlights some of the accomplishments over the last year in South Jordan. I hope that you will take a moment to look through this report. You will see many of the good things that have occurred and the exciting prospects for the future. We have laid the groundwork for future projects that will shape the City for years to come, and I am excited about the good things happening here.

WINTER DRIVING

Remember Newton’s first law of motion when driving in winter: an object in motion stays in motion. More distance is required for vehicles to slow down or change directions on slippery roads, so don’t speed, avoid quick stops and starts, and keep extra distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.

BIG THINGS are HAPPENING in 2025

Here in South Jordan we are not only growing, we are thriving! Our City continues to rank nationally— rated as Money Geek’s 7th most up-and-coming small city in the nation in 2024. South Jordan is on the leading edge of so many things, and we have much to look forward to in 2025.

We are thrilled with the announcement that Salt Lake County will build their new Performing Arts Center in South Jordan. This project has been in the works for several years and the announcement from our partners at the county mirrors our city council’s commitment to supporting the arts in South Jordan. We will continue our Art on the Towne event and add smaller Art in the

Park events in 2025. We will also continue putting on multiple performing arts shows, adding new murals, box wraps, and other public art pieces as we strive to enhance our City. South Jordan is beautiful and is made even more so by the hearts and hands of our extremely talented residents, in the work you create and participate in.

Some of the biggest things coming in 2025 are related to economic development. We are excited about the new urban center and Bees ballpark in South Jordan, which, when complete, will have restaurants, a theater and entertainment complex, places to live, and a TRAX stop to make it accessible. In April, the first games will begin, making South Jordan the new home of the Salt Lake Bees Minor League Baseball team. There are many plans in the works for new and exciting businesses to open in our city and we look forward to cutting several ribbons this year.

Friends, it is an honor to serve as your mayor, and I continue to be excited and encouraged about our future. We are working hard to do the very best for our city, and more than ever, I believe the future is bright in South Jordan! - SoJo Race Series DISCOUNTSign up for 2 events and save 15% | Sign up for 4 events and save 20% Sign up for 6 or more events and save 25%
