PHYSICAL PREPARATION Strength x Power x Endurance Þ Strength = the ability of a muscle to apply force and overcome resistance or the amount of force a muscle can exert Þ Power = the ability to produce as much force or speed in as short an amount of time as possible Þ Endurance = is the ability to sustain a certain physical activity over an extended period of time Flexibility Þ Passive flexibility = the range of motion a joint can go into with the help of an external force. For example; body weight, gravity, coach’s strength Þ Active flexibility = the range of motion a joint can go into without an external force applied. For example; the range of motion (internal amplitude) when a gymnast holds his / her own leg up using his / her own strength
