In today's fast-paced news environment, time is an invaluable commodity. For PR professionals seeking media coverage, crafting a concise and impactful pitch is paramount. As I spend another day dealing with up to 10 media calls that have lasted twice as long, I feel its important to hone the message in. With so much on our plates, me and my journalist peers need to grasp the importance of a story instantly. To stand out in the crowd as a PR Professional and increase the likelihood of media pickup, it's crucial to make your pitch brief and compelling.
Start by clearly conveying why your story matters. Highlight the significance of the topic and its potential impact on the target audience. Journalists are more likely to pursue stories that resonate with their readers, viewers, or listeners. Paint a vivid picture of how your story connects with current events, societal trends, or local issues.
The first few sentences of your pitch must hook the journalist's interest immediately. Avoid long-winded introductions and get straight to the point. A compelling opening should contain the most captivating aspect of the story, intriguing the reader to read further. Think of it as an elevator pitch – captivating and concise.
Only include the most vital details in your pitch. Keep the focus on the core message and essential facts. When we think of luxury, the focus point to consider is the brand itself. We cannot imagine luxury without brands. The brand is an integral part of luxury products and services as well as the dreams of the customers.
Customers have dreams, and brands make their dreams come true. Therefore, when people ask what a luxury brand is, often the reply is that it is the brand that makes people’s dreams come true.
Brands are important for business success. The goal of luxury management is to gain pricing power, which is the competitive condition that not only ensures high profits but allows the brand to grow while increasing the price. The intangible capital power of the brand, which is acquired through quality, creativity, and status, is the lever of this pricing power.
Intangible capital in this case are those fragile and valuable assets, which brands acquire with a strong foundation. In enterprises where commodity products and services are mass-produced, management is delegated easily, and brands can be sold to other companies easily. However, in luxury brands, it is the opposite; the product and service are linked to heritage, history, story, identity, creative talent, and majority of the time the vision of the families, as such cannot be transferred nor delegated easily.
Luxury is a luxury experience. Luxury products and services are the objects of the luxury brands. Only diamonds are luxury objects appreciated without brands - size and purity matter all the time. For everything else, there is no luxury without brands. Luxury brands go beyond the objects. It is created from the reputation made from its objects and its service within the social groups, which constitute the elite.
The brand is the social passport, both for the product and person. To be expensive is not enough to qualify as a luxury product; it must also be marked with a cultural symbol accepted as a social determinant.
This symbol is the brand when the brand itself has the reputation with the cultural and financial powers. In luxury, the brand comes first before the product. Most often, customers choose the brand first, then a product or service of the brand they chose.
Luxury brand is a brand first, and luxury second. It is not necessary to talk about the positioning. Luxury brands are powerful identities, which can reassure and seduce by the dream they create.
They offer a world of its own in which customers wish to dive themselves as the luxury customers dream to be a part of it. Luxury brand cultivates its uniqueness; it prefers to be loyal to an identity rather than continuously worry about superiority over an opponent or competitor. Even if the customers make the comparison to decide, the brand is not managed by seeking to compare itself to others.
Building a brand is building a unique, strong perception. In luxury, it must be inspired and inspirational. Identity of luxury brands contributes to building the identity of its customers themselves. Brands make the dreams of customers come true. In this equation, luxury brands play a very important role in consumers’ lives.
Crisis situations can strike any organization unexpectedly, posing significant threats to their reputation, operations, and stakeholders. In times of crisis, effective public relations (PR) plays a pivotal role in managing the situation, mitigating damage, and rebuilding trust. My first crisis management plan was for Lufthansa more than 18years ago and it was one of the most exciting content documents I ever created.
A few years later, we did similar process plans for an architecture firm, when I looked after Air Arabia PR and for a retail giant – in each project, we delved into the essential functions of PR in crisis management and highlighted key strategies for successfully navigating through challenging times. Below is what we find key elements for businesses to consider.
One of the primary responsibilities of PR professionals is to proactively develop a crisis management plan before any crisis occurs. This plan should include clear protocols, designated spokespeople, and strategies for communication channels. By anticipating potential crises and preparing in advance, organizations can respond more swiftly and effectively when a crisis hits.
During a crisis, maintaining open and transparent communication is paramount. PR professionals serve as the bridge between the organization and its stakeholders, ensuring that accurate information is disseminated in a timely manner. Promptly address the crisis, share updates, and provide guidance to stakeholders through various communication channels, such as press releases, social media, and direct outreach. Transparent communication helps maintain credibility and fosters trust in the organization's ability to handle the situation.
The associated PR professionals are responsible for managing media relations during a crisis. They act as the organization's spokesperson, providing accurate information and responding to media inquiries promptly.
Establishing strong relationships with journalists beforehand can facilitate smoother communication during a crisis. PR professionals should also proactively reach out to the media, sharing key messages, updates, and addressing any misconceptions or inaccuracies in media coverage.
Effective crisis management requires thoughtful engagement with stakeholders, including employees, customers, partners, and the community. PR professionals must develop targeted messaging tailored to each stakeholder group. Engage with stakeholders
through various channels, such as town hall meetings, internal communications, social media, and dedicated helplines. By addressing concerns, providing updates, and demonstrating empathy, PR professionals can help rebuild trust and maintain support during and after the crisis.
PR professionals also play a critical role in managing the organization's reputation during a crisis. They monitor media coverage, social media conversations, and online platforms to gauge public sentiment and identify potential reputational risks.
It is evident that by actively addressing negative narratives and correcting misinformation, PR professionals can limit reputational damage. They should also coordinate with legal teams to ensure that the organization's public statements align with any legal obligations or restrictions.
When coordinating Crisis Response Teams, PR professionals often lead and coordinate cross-functional crisis response teams, bringing together representatives from various departments within the organization. This includes legal, operations, HR, and executive leadership.
By collaborating closely with these teams, PR professionals ensure a unified and cohesive response strategy. They facilitate the flow of information, provide guidance on messaging, and ensure consistent communication across all channels.
After the crisis subsides, PR professionals play a crucial role in conducting post-crisis analysis and learning from the experience.
They assess the effectiveness of the crisis management plan, identify areas for improvement, and update protocols accordingly. By incorporating lessons learned, organizations can enhance their crisis preparedness and response capabilities, better equipping themselves for future challenges.
In an era where reputations can be damaged in an instant, the role of PR in crisis management is indispensable. By proactively preparing for crises, facilitating transparent communication, managing media relations, engaging stakeholders, protecting the organization's reputation, coordinating crisis response teams, and learning from past experiences, PR professionals serve as the guardians of an organization's image during turbulent times.
Their strategic efforts are vital in effectively managing crises, preserving stakeholder trust, and steering organizations towards successful recovery.
As the world takes a relook at their consumption practices against the backdrop of the World Environment Day, the global tourism industry emerges as a key player that can make a lasting and meaningful impact on the environment, on people, communities and businesses if both the creators and consumers of tourism make the right kind of decisions, choices and investments geared towards attaining sustainability.
The glaring reality of the sector’s impact can be seen in statistics revealed by The World Counts platform, which indicate that tourists left more than 885 million tons of waste and consumed more than 1.7 billion litres of fresh water in 2023, while carbon emission is anticipated to grow 25% by 2030 as a result of tourist activities.
To reverse this impact by fostering more eco conscious practices, protecting endangered species, developing sound waste management technologies and reducing overconsumption, governments, local communities, tourism destinations, and NGOs around the world are collaborating closely.
In the Arab region, Sharjah has developed a pioneering model
in fostering sustainability in the tourism sector. Imbuing leisure, hospitality, tourism, art and culture with a nature-culture balance, and launching over 10 nature-based destinations in the past few years, with infrastructural design, innovation and management, that sufficiently address today’s sustainable development challenge, Sharjah has given us tangible examples of ecotourism good practices that can be replicated and adapted across the region.
After successfully attracting 1.4 million tourists in 2022, Sharjah is working towards accomplishing an ambitious goal of becoming the region’s leading ecotourism provider. The emirate has successfully leveraged its wide ranging topography and natural diversity spanning coastlines, mountains, the desert, wetlands, acacia forests, palm groves and mangrove reserves, as well as its vibrant urban centre to design unforgettable travel experiences that advocate for and encourage a more mindful approach to our favourite pastime – holidaying.
HE Khalid Jassim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), says: “Sustainability can be best achieved when we make it a mindset, not just try to achieve
it through certain practices. In Sharjah, we believe in the importance of fostering such a culture and mindset in future generations, so that it continues to reflect in our approach and our conscious behaviour. Commitment to sustainability practices, particularly in tourism, leads to the development of a sense of responsibility in travellers - it creates a human - nature symbiosis and enables us to meaningfully participate in and contribute to our travel experiences, instead of just mindlessly consuming.”
The results of this approach are evident in an array of sustainable tourist destinations across Sharjah. Recently we ventured out to spend a summer afternoon with Ian Alexander, General Manager KIZA Restaurant and Lounge who took the role as it gave him the opportunity to tell the story of African cuisine, which he believes is underrated, unknown, and misunderstood on a global scale.
Ian has been in the hospitality industry with a career spanning over 18 years. Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, Ian began his career in the hospitality field, working for prominent corporate brands such as Sun International and the Cape Town International Convention Center.
His ambition was always to work abroad and expand his career on a global scale so when he was approached by an agency working on KIZA Restaurant and Lounge, a Pan African restaurant in Dubai, he
took the challenge of taking Pan African cuisine to new heights in Dubai.
With a background in food and beverage, Ian saw it as a chance to be the voice for African cuisine and showcase its excellence. He embarked on a mission to revamp the restaurant's interiors, develop a new menu, and create brand-new experiences.
Ian's vision for KIZA is to bring African excellence to the forefront of the global stage. With Africa's rich cultural diversity and 54 countries, he aims to showcase the continent's music, fashion, arts, and culinary traditions. Ian and his team have already introduced elements from 16 different countries into their menu, including Tunisia and Morocco.
The KIZA team want to take people on a journey through Africa's diverse culinary landscape and challenge the perception that African food and beverages lag behind other cuisines.

Leverage DNS and DNSSEC support to maximize availability and uptime
Frequently referred to as the ‘phone book of the Internet,’ DNS (domain name system) translates domain names into numeric IP addresses and enables browsers to load Internet resources. As DNS attacks become more prevalent, businesses are starting to realize that a lack of a resilient DNS creates a weak link in their overall security strategy.
There are multiple approaches that companies can take to deploy a resilient DNS strategy. They can get a managed DNS provider that hosts all DNS records, offers query resolution at multiple nodes globally, and provides integrated DNSSEC support. DNSSEC adds a layer of security to the domain name system by adding cryptographic signatures to existing DNS records. Companies can also build additional redundancy by deploying a multi-DNS strategy — even if the primary DNS goes down, secondary DNS helps keep the applications online. Large enterprises that prefer to maintain their own DNS infrastructure can implement a DNS firewall in conjunction with a secondary DNS. This setup adds a security layer to the on-prem DNS infrastructure and helps ensure overall DNS redundancy.
Today, the majority of web traffic is served through Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), including traffic from major sites like Amazon and Facebook. A CDN is a geographically distributed group of servers that help provide fast delivery of Internet content to globally dispersed users and can also reduce bandwidth costs.
With servers in multiple locations around the globe, a CDN is able to distribute content closer to website visitors, and in doing so, reduce any inherent network latency and improve page load times. CDNs also serve static assets from cache across their network, reducing the number of requests being made to hosted web servers and resulting in lower bandwidth and hosting costs.
Minimize the risk of site outages by globally load balancing traffic
Maximizing server resources and efficiency can be a delicate balancing act. Cloud-based load balancers distribute requests across multiple servers in order to handle spikes in traffic. The load balancing decision takes place at the network edge, closer to the users — allowing businesses to boost response time and effectively optimize their infrastructure while minimizing the risk of server failure.
When securing web applications and other business-critical properties, a layered security strategy can help defend against many different kinds of threats.
• Web application firewall protection - A web application firewall, or WAF, protects web applications by filtering and monitoring HTTP traffic. Cloudbased WAFs are typically the most flexible and cost-effective solution to
implement, as they can be consistently updated to protect against new threats without significant additional work or cost on the user’s end.
• DDoS attack protection - A DDoS attack is a malicious attempt to overburden servers, devices, networks, or surrounding infrastructure with a flood of illegitimate Internet traffic. By consuming all available bandwidth between targeted devices and the Internet, these attacks not only cause significant service disruptions, but have a tangible and negative impact on business as customers are unable to access a business’s resources.
• Malicious bot mitigation - Sites may become compromised when targeted by malicious bot activity, which can overwhelm web servers, skew analytics, prevent users from accessing webpages, steal user data, and compromise critical business functions. By implementing a bot management solution, businesses can distinguish between useful and harmful bot activity and prevent malicious behaviour from impacting user experience.
• Protect your network infrastructure - It’s not enough to just protect web servers. Enterprises often have on-premise network infrastructure hosted in public or private data centers that needs protection from DDoS attacks, too. Many DDoS mitigation providers rely on one of two methods for stopping an attack: scrubbing centers or on-premise scanning and filtering via hardware boxes. The problem with both approaches is that they impose a latency penalty that can adversely affect a business.
A better way to detect and mitigate DDoS attacks is to do so close to the source — at the network edge. By scanning traffic at the closest data center in a global, distributed network, high service availability is assured, even during substantial DDoS attacks. This approach reduces the latency penalties that come from routing suspicious traffic to geographically distant scrubbing centers. It also leads to faster attack response times.
• Protect TCP/UDP applications - At the transport layer, attackers may target a business’s server resources by overwhelming all available ports on a server. These DDoS attacks can cause the server to respond slowly to legitimate requests — or not at all. Preventing attacks at the transport layer requires a security solution that can automatically detect attack patterns and block attack traffic.
In conclusion, creating a superior online experience requires the right security and performance strategy — one that not only enables enterprises to accelerate content delivery, but ensures network reliability and protects their web properties from site outages, data theft, and other critical attacks.
CYBERSECURITY AND DATA SOVEREIGNTY CONCERNS ARE TOP DRIVERS FOR PUBLIC SECTOR’S 5X GROWTH IN HYBRID MULTICLOUD DEPLOYMENTS OVER THE NEXT THREE YEARS
Nutanix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTNX), a leader in hybrid multicloud computing, has announced the public sector findings of its fifth annual Enterprise Cloud Index (ECI) survey, which measures enterprise progress with cloud adoption.
The research reveals that public sector organisations plan to accelerate their hybrid multicloud deployments nearly five-fold over the next three years. Overall, public sector respondents expect to increase their general use of mixed-IT infrastructure to 73%.
Cybersecurity, data security, sovereignty, protection and recovery are top drivers of this group’s IT infrastructure purchasing decisions.
“Public Sector CIOs are universally modernising their IT environments to effectively serve their constituents, missions, and mandates'', says Sammy Zoghlami, SVP EMEA, Nutanix. “The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the importance of agility to swiftly adapt to changing circumstances in government, education, and healthcare sectors. Recognising this need, public sector IT leaders are embracing diverse IT environments, encompassing data centres, edge computing, colocation, and various public clouds to meet their individual specific requirements. This approach offers the freedom to locate and move workloads and apps where they best meet their strategic priorities; however, it also brings new challenges, including complexity inherent in hybrid multicloud environments.”
• Public sector organisations expect to grow their hybrid multicloud deployments nearly five-fold. This group also expects to more than double its use of multiple public clouds (“multicloud”). Public sector respondents expect their use of all other IT operating models, such as on-premises infrastructure, to decline during this period.
• Cybersecurity and data sovereignty are the biggest IT infrastructure investment drivers. Among those in the public sector, cybersecurity and data sovereignty—the ability to comply with national rules for data storage and control—tied as the top criterion, at 13% each. Cost was mentioned least often.
• Mixed environments create new challenges for data management, as the value and volume of data in the public sector continues to skyrocket. Top challenges include data analytics and orchestration, data protection and recovery, and data storage costs. The findings also indicate a visibility
capabilities gap for all data residing across the extended IT infrastructure. There is room for improvement in the availability of integrated tools for hybrid IT operations, as IT shops can’t manage, secure, synchronise, or analyse what they can’t see.
• The overriding driver of application movement among ECI public sector respondents in the past year was to improve data security. Nearly all respondents in the global public sector (98%) indicated that they had moved applications between IT infrastructures in the past 12 months, and 47% cited a desire to improve their company’s security posture or their ability to meet regulatory requirements as a reason (Figure 6). Improving data security was also the top reason for moving applications among all ECI respondents, cited by a similar percentage (46%). The hope of accelerating data access speeds was a moderately distant second reason for application mobility among public sector respondents (39%), followed by a wish to integrate with cloudnative services, such as AI and machine learning (38%).
• Controlling IT costs. Most respondents rank controlling costs high on their list of challenges. For example, 86% of public sector respondents and 85% of respondents globally described cloud cost control as a challenge with managing their current IT infrastructures, and more than a third of each group—36% of public sector organisations and 34% of global respondents— said it was a "significant" one.
Increased infrastructure diversity, along with a heightened emphasis on data storage, management, security and services, is driving all public sector IT pros to seek hybrid operations that unify private and public infrastructure. Nearly all respondents, including 95% of public sector respondents, expressed a desire to have a single place to see and manage the many aspects of their diverse infrastructures. As these capabilities emerge, respondents will gain access to unified tools that deliver visibility into where all data resides, allow IT teams to holistically manage their applications and data, and let them make adjustments as needed to meet ever-shifting requirements for data security, backup, compliance, performance and cost.

This is one of the hottest trends in the market today. According to the Veeam Data Protection Trends Report 2023, “85% of organizations suffered at least one cyberattack in the past 12 months, an increase of 76% compared to 2022”. In the case of ransomware, which is becoming increasingly prevalent, while many organizations may say that ‘ransomware is a disaster’ and therefore include cyberattacks within their Business Continuity or Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) planning, the actual interaction between the teams leaves much to be desired. As per Veeam’s 2023 Ransomware Trends Report, 60% of organizations surveyed believe either ‘significant improvement’ or ‘complete overhaul’ is needed between the Cyber and Backup teams. An alarming statistic from the report is that 21% of respondents that fell victim to ransomware, paid the ransom but could not recover data. These percentages are scary, considering the fact that cyberattacks are becoming very aggressive and hackers are getting more relentless. Channel organizations noticing this trend have started developing their capabilities in cyber security solutions and consultancy, to help organizations devise a solid cyber preparedness strategy. Partnering with vendors that offer market leading solutions in data protection and ransomware recovery offers partners a great opportunity of highlighting the criticality of data protection as part of an overall cyber security strategy and providing customers with technologies to ensure that their IT operations and businesses don’t suffer downtime.
AI is now central to the way we live. The recent pandemic has taught us how enterprises that ignored emerging trends in artificial intelligence found it hard to survive the changing workplace environment and market dynamics. I believe this is a great tool that partners can use to design their strategies and develop their key priorities this year and beyond. I always advise my partners to be the best at what they do.
Focus and specialization are key to having a profitable business, and this can be achieved by creating smart synergies within the right ecosystem and by investing in the right talent. Vendors have a key role to play in helping partners in this area by supporting them through training and certification programs that increase skill specialization and diversification that help differentiate the partner´s offering in the market. In this way partners can scale their business models and address the needs of their customers in a very flexible and customized way. When looking to collaborate with vendors, besides the technology aspect, channel companies need to pay attention to a vendor’s partner program. All programs don’t have equal merit. Channel organizations need to collaborate with vendors whose partner programs centre around partner profitability and motivate and engage channel partners to create more value for customers.

Organizations are facing an uphill battle. The volume of cyberattacks has risen year-on-year, with a 38% increase in 2022 compared to the previous year. In the UAE alone, an organization is being targeted on average 1403 times per week over the last six months. Supply chain attacks continue to challenge organizations. Zero-day vulnerabilities are being uncovered daily, with the most recent prolific incident being the 3CX compromise found in March 2023. The geopolitical landscape has never been more fractured in response to the Russo-Ukraine war, and ransomware has evolved beyond classic encryption to more sophisticated data extortion. All of this has created the perfect conditions for cybercriminals to thrive and for businesses to stay out of danger.

The unfortunate truth is cybersecurity frameworks alone are no longer enough to protect organizations in a world where threats and data breaches are more than one-off occurrences. After all, cybercriminals do not care about frameworks – they care about breaking through a network’s defenses. Robust, proactive, and preparatory work is needed to ensure that businesses can mitigate these threats, reduce their overall risk posture, and orchestrate rapid-response remediation when required.
While traditional cybersecurity measures primarily focus on threat detection and mitigation, adopting a prevention-first approach is crucial when it comes to shoring up resilience.

During a recent visit, we checked out the Dallara Factory & Academy, the Maserati factory, Casa Maria Luigia where we tried a curated dinner with Chef Massimo Bottura, had multiple Ferrari experiences, and visited the Lamborghini Museum and the Pagani museum and factory.
We started the day with a visit to the Dallara Museum followed by the Dallara Factory and Academy, explored the world of motorsport engineering and witnessed the craftsmanship behind the creation of high-performance racing cars.
After a spot of lunch in the mountains, we headed to the nearby town of Modena for a guided tour of the Maserati factory and discovered the meticulous production process of their cars. We also spent some time interacting with the new CEO of Maserati and listening to his plans to elevate the brand further.
In the evening, we enjoyed a dinner curated by Casa Maria Luigia, the culinary project of renowned Chef Massimo Bottura. We enjoyed touring the one site cellars where Chef Massimo houses barrels of balsamic vinegar and indulged in a unique dining experience featuring the flavors of Emilia-Romagna.
The next day, we experienced the thrill of driving a Ferrari F488 at the Modena Racing Track and enjoyed a high-speed driving session under the guidance of professional instructors. Following our driving experience, we savored a delicious lunch at the Cavallino Restaurant, known for its delectable local cuisine.
Soon after, we embarked on a guided tour of the Ferrari Factory in Maranello, getting insights into the manufacturing techniques and precision engineering that make these iconic cars. We continued our Ferrari journey with a visit to the Ferrari Museum, showcasing the rich history and evolution of the brand and admired a collection of classic and modern Ferrari models.
We spent most of our visit exploring the small towns and one afternoon, checked out the Opera 02, which offers a unique and immersive experience centered around the world-famous balsamic vinegar. After a delightful lunch, we indulged in another captivating tasting journey that highlights the artistry and complexity of traditional balsamic vinegar production.
Similar to what we experienced with Chef Bottura earlier, we had a tasting experience at Opera 02 of balsamic vinegars, ranging from young and vibrant to aged and velvety. Each sample unveiled a symphony of flavors, from sweet and tangy notes to the delicate balance of acidity and richness.
Another highlight of the trip to this region was visiting the Lamborghini Museum. We explored in the world of Lamborghini, the legendary cars and their iconic designs. It was my second visit and this time around; I found the museum more developed and with more cars than before.
A highlight of our trip was a tour of the Pagani factory as although I have met and interviewed Mr. Pagani in the past, I had never visited the Pagani Museum and factory during my previous visits to the region. The visit was insightful and we witnessed the meticulous craftsmanship that goes into creating the exclusive and luxurious Pagani models.
Before heading to Bologna, we spent an afternoon in Modena City to experience and view the Cavallino Classic Parade that showcases a stunning array of vintage and modern cars. We enjoyed the festive atmosphere and admired the beauty of these iconic vehicles. After a well-rested night in Bologna city, we had a whole morning of retail therapy before the flight. It was certainly difficult to say farewell to Emilia-Romagna and it is a city that will always have a special place in my heart.

The highly anticipated 3rd International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (IMDEC) is set to take place on 29-30 August 2023 at the Burma Hall, Ghana Armed Forces Headquarters, Accra, Ghana. The new dedicated exhibition hall in Burma Camp, purpose-built to accommodate the growing event, will also be inaugurated at IMDEC, the largest gathering of Africa's maritime industry.
IMDEC will bring together regional and international Chiefs of Naval Staff to address the critical issues surrounding maritime security on the continent. The conference aims to foster dialogue and collaboration among key stakeholders to sustain a safe and secure maritime domain, focusing on consolidating the gains made in the Gulf of Guinea. The Keynote speech is by Guest of Honour, Hon. Dominic Aduna Bingab Nitiwul, Minister of Defence, Ghana.

The forum will provide insights and case studies on the successful application of a variety of innovations relevant to maritime needs in the region. The exhibition will showcase cutting-edge technologies in maritime security and foster strong resolutions and recommendations to overcome the daunting challenges facing Africa's blue economy. It brings the world’s leading defence suppliers to Accra for communication technologies, radars, satellite imagery solutions and vessels among other key solutions vital for further strengthening maritime defence capabilities of African navies.
Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, Chief of Naval Staff, Ghana Navy, expressed the importance of cyber security measures in African navies, stating, "Advancements in onboard systems and rapid digital transformation require African navies to implement measures to safeguard their systems and operations. However, there is a need for African countries to enhance their efforts in the area of cyber security."
The Ghana Navy recognizes the potential of Africa's blue economy and its ability to address economic challenges on the continent. Rear Admiral Yakubu added, "The blue economy offers solutions to numerous economic challenges in Africa if properly harnessed. To realize its potential, we must ensure our maritime space is safe and secure for business and shipping."
The IMDEC Expo will feature a showcase of the latest and most innovative maritime security technologies and solutions, bringing together leading defense suppliers from around the world. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with technology providers specializing in communication technologies, radars, satellite imagery solutions, and vessels, among other crucial solutions for enhancing Africa's naval defense capabilities.
The event will host more than 300 attendees from over 70 countries, as more than 12 Chiefs of Navy and over 35 speakers will brainstorm on new ideas and discuss the roadmap for the future in sustaining a safe and secure maritime domain.
