Construction Committee | Donny Duke, Chair | Andrew Vear, Vice Chair The Committee evaluates newly introduced approaches or technologies for qualification as best practices by ICPI in published guidance from time to time. Segmental pavement system elements such as base materials, edge restraints are common considerations. Also considered are construction practices impacting safety and performance. The topics of open-graded and geofoam bases are of particular interest as they are being utilized and promoted. In such instances, the Committee seeks performance information or requests a research study to substantiate performance claims before endorsing the use or practice. There are also opportunities for the Committee to conduct necessary monitoring and testing with the hosting assistance of ICPI members.
At the 2021 Annual Meeting session: •
A Task Group will review Tech Spec 5, Tech Spec 6, and Tech Spec 17 in detail to ensure that recommendations are consistent and support each publication.

The Task Group investigating Geofoam bases' performance is working with manufacturers who have offered to partner local representatives with Construction Committee members and ICPI staff to visit and inspect projects underway this year.

Staff provided an overview of the 2021 Contractor Business Report and highlighted several noteworthy statistics and trends.

The staff reported contractor use of the Respirable Crystalline Silica Estimator, Safety Manual Template, Weekly Safety Meeting Outlines, and COVID-19 Exposure Guidance.
On a more routine basis, the Construction Committee regularly reviews and updates Tech Specs and other construction resources to ensure they remain accurate and up to date.
