Whatawaytobeginournewacademictermbyhavingit online.Asmuchasitisnotourfirst-choice-platformto welcomeeveryoneback,wehaveacceptedthatthisistobe theNewNormweneedtoadjustto,evenasweventure intoanewyear.

Wehadourveryfirstonlineorientation,whichconsistedof theprincipal�saddressandannouncements,followedby PC(PastoralCare)time.Meanwhile,onlinelessons commencedonthe19thofJanuary2021.

Althoughonlinelearningisnotnewtousasaschool community,therearesomenewthingsweareintroducing thisyear.Theyareasfollows:

1.Therewillbeatotalof5periodsof40minutesaday fromMondaytoThursday,and3periodsof40minutes everyFriday.Eachstudentwillhaveatotalof23 periodsperweek.Thisistoensuresufficienttimeis giventoeachsubjectforlessonstobecarriedouteach week.

2.Wehaveallocated40minutesinbetweeneachperiod toallowenoughtimefortransitioninbetweenclasses aswellastoensureteachersandstudentstakeashort breakfromtheirscreens.

3.11.20am‒1.00pmhasbeenallocatedtostudentsas theirlunchbreak.

4.Avarietyofpracticalsubjectswillbeintroducedthis roundaswell.

5.EveryWednesdayfrom3.30pm‒4.10pmwillbetime allocatedforeitherAssembly,HousetimeorClubtime (willbementionedinthetimetable).

Thenewthingsintroducedthisroundforouronline learninghavebeenplannedandthoughtthrough thoroughlybytheacademicteam,especiallyaftertwo roundsofonlinelearning.Webelievethistimetableand arrangementwillbemorebalancedandwillbenefitthe students�growthandlearning.

今年通过线上开课真是前所未有！尽管这不是我们⾸选想要迎 接学⽣的开学⽅式，但我们必须接受这新常态，来踏⼊未知的 新⼀年。

上周，我们进⾏了第⼀次的线上迎新会，包括校⻓致辞及⼀些 公告，紧接着则是各别班级主任关怀(PastoralCare)时间。 ⽽线上学习于2021年1⽉19⽇开始进⾏。

尽管线上学习对于我们全体师⽣来说并不陌⽣，不过今年起我 们将推⾏⼀些新的尝试，如下：

1.从星期⼀⾄星期四，每天将会有5节为时40分钟的课， 星期五则有3节为时40分钟的课。每周学⽣将会有23节 的线上学习课。这是为了确保每周学⽣们都会有充⾜ 的时间来学习每个科⽬。

2.我们在每节课之间分配40分钟的休息时间，以便⽼师 及学⽣们有⾜够的时间来进⾏科⽬转换和休息。

3.上午11.20点⾄下午1点是学⽣们的午餐休息时间。

4.此次我们也将⼀些实践科⽬纳⼊课程表⾥。

5.每周三下午3.30点⾄4.10点将会进⾏周会，学院时间或 者是学会时间（时间分配将会注明在课程表）。

经历过两次的线上学习加上学术团队的规划及深思熟虑之后， 我们将在这次的线上学习推⾏这些新的尝试。我们深信，这样 的课程表和安排将会更加均衡，并且有利于学⽣们的学习及成 ⻓。

学校教育在孩⼦的⽣活中扮演着重要的⻆⾊。没有什么⽐校园的实体授课 更为有效。伴随着学⽣们成⻓的是宽敞舒适的校园空间，互动式的活动也 旨在发掘出学⽣们更好的另⼀⾯。话虽如此，疫情当前的情况已超出了我 们所能控制的范围，迫使我们必须适应踏出校园外的学习。在疫情期间， 致理国际学校志在让线上学习课程能模拟出实际课堂上⾯对⾯的学习体 验，让学⽣们在家也能感同⾝受的去学习。为了确保他们能更全⾯性的学

习，我们还纳⼊了⼀些新活动，例如线上图书馆(ScholasticLiteracy Pro)和其他类型的课外活动(Co-CurricularActivities)。

ChemistrywasprobablythehardestsubjectIhad totackle.There'sahugeleapindifficultybetween Form3GeneralScienceChemistryandIGCSE ChemistryandIhadtofaceitheadon.Iremember itbeingtheonlypaperwhereIactuallyhadno ideawhatseveralquestionsweretalkingaboutat all.Imanagedtoidentifymystrugglewiththe subjectfairlyearlyon,soIapproachedmymother askingforatutor.Ialsousedonlineresourcesto notjustidentifytopicsandquestionsIhadtrouble with,butalsofindanswersforthem.Lastbutnot least,ItriedextrahardtoparticipateinChemistry classsothatIcouldgetimmersedinthesubject.

Ithinkthatwhenitcomestostudying,finding yournicheisthemostimportant.Mostofusknow thatthereareseveraltypesof"learningstyles" outthereandthateachpersonisusuallymore adeptatonethantherest.Ittookmeyearsto noticethatIunderperformintestscomparedtoin class,andittookmelongertofindoutthatthe bestoptionforstudyingforme,wasactually repetition.Comparedtojustlisteningtothe teacherexplainorreadingstudymaterials,I absorbedinformationmuchbetterjustbydoing practices.ThemomentIappliedthattomystudies (byjustdoingTONSofpast-year-papers)my resultsbecamewhatitcurrentlyis.SoIthinkthe besttipthatIcangiveistospendtime experimentingwithwaysthatyoustudy,reflect onyourresults,takethingsatacomfortablepace foryouandfindthatnichethatyouhave.Once youfindit,evenifyourresultsdon'timmediately skyrocket,you'reboundtofindstudyingmore enjoyable.AndIguaranteeyourresultswillget betteroncethathappens.

Myteachersandmyfamily*ClicheoptionsIknow* Istruggledalotwiththechangeinsystems.There werenewansweringtechniquesanddosand don'tsIhadtogetusedtoperformingatadecent level.Thankfully,theteachersherewerereally

willingtosharethoseresources,anditreally helpedme.ItisalsothankstomyteachersthatI managedtorealizehowwellIabsorbedthingsby doingpast-year-papers.Soitisbynomeansan exaggerationwhenIsayIcouldn'thaveachieved thiswithouttheirconsistentsupport.AndIwant tothankmyfamilyforbeingwillingtospendthat amountthattheydidtoallowmetostudyhere,as wellasbeingwillingtomakealmost20roundtrips toMasaiformyexams.Theirpatiencetrulyis admirable.

Well,thefirstthingI'mgoingtosayisthatitis perfectlyfinetofeelstressedandinsecure.Istill havetotake3deepbreathsbeforestartingany exampapertocalmmyselfdown.Nobodycan alwaysperformatthetopoftheirgameandit's OKtofail.Takelosseswithpoiseandvictories withhumility.TheotherpieceofadviceIhave (andarguablythemorepracticalone)iswhatI've mentionedbefore.Findthatstudyingniche,and withit,thejoyoflearning.Ifyoudothat,you'llbe setnotjustforyourIGCSEs,butalsoanything you'llfaceinthefuture.Andifyoueverfind schooltedious,justremindyourselfhowgoodit feelstoknowandtounderstand,andyou'llbejust fine.
