The second is an honest truth: Life is hard—but you can overcome.

Our students face real pressures, disappointments, and uncertainty. Education today must do more than prepare students to succeed; it must prepare them to endure, adapt, and grow through difficulty.

This is where we return to one word that matters deeply, especially in this Christmas season: HOPE. We remind our students that H.O.P.E. means Hold On, Pain Ends. Not that challenges disappear overnight, but that pain is not permanent—and perseverance matters.

These messages are closely aligned with our Sui Generis approach. We believe every child is uniquely formed, and that education must nurture not only competence, but also character, resilience, and purpose.

As a school community, our commitment remains clear: to shape thoughtful learners, grounded individuals, and young people who understand that setbacks are part of the journey—not the conclusion.

WORLD SCHOLAR’S CUP TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS AT YALE

In November 2025, four Seri Jubli International School students, accompanied by two student-interns and their supervising teacher, represented the school at the World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) Tournament of Champions (ToC) held at Yale University, United States of America.

The student delegation comprised Isabel Jeevika Johnson (Year 10), Sofie binti Zaidi (Year 10), Tian Eu Liang (Year 9), and Syuqri bin Zaidi (Year 8), supported by student-interns Jamie Alexander Smithcoward and Joanna Marie Smithcoward, under the guidance of Teacher Vima.

The Tournament of Champions is the final and most prestigious round of the World Scholar’s Cup, bringing together top scholars from around the world for an immersive academic and cultural experience.

First Impressions: A Different Kind of Experience For the students, the Tournament of Champions was unlike any other WSC round they had experienced. While some aspects felt familiar, the scale, intensity, and diversity of participants made it stand apart.

“It felt like a visit to an already familiar place, but with more people and a very different vibe,” shared Syuqri, capturing the heightened atmosphere of the event.

For others, the experience felt refreshingly different from expectations.

“The competition was really different this time, but even so, the experience was still worth it,” said Jeevika, reflecting on how the format and team dynamics set ToC apart from previous rounds.

Meanwhile, Eu Liang described the trip with characteristic humour, noting that it felt like a break from routine — a chance to step away from everyday responsibilities while still learning in a completely new environment.

Highlights That Defined the Journey When asked about their favourite moments, students consistently pointed to experiences beyond the competition halls. Activities such as the Scavenger Hunt, Cultural Fair, Scholars Ball, and exploring Yale University together created lasting memories.

“Every second felt like an unexpected plot twist — you were constantly learning something new,” shared Sofie, reflecting on the constant pace of discovery.

Students also valued the opportunity to interact with peers from different countries, gaining insight into diverse perspectives, opinions, and cultures — a defining feature of the Tournament of Champions experience.

Facing Challenges and Growing Through Them The journey was not without its difficulties. Working in mixed international teams required adaptability and strong communication, while frequent travel and long competition days tested students’ stamina. Managing expectations around performance also proved to be a significant learning point.

“I put in much more effort this time, and even though the results weren’t what I expected, I learned to accept it and move forward,” reflected Syuqri, highlighting a moment of personal growth.

These challenges became powerful lessons in resilience, self-reflection, and perseverance — outcomes that extended far beyond medals and rankings.

How This Tournament Felt Different Compared to previous WSC rounds, students noted that the Tournament of Champions felt more competitive and demanding, with fewer familiar structures and greater emphasis on independence. Yet, despite these differences,

the sense of camaraderie remained strong.

Friendships were strengthened through shared meals, latenight conversations, and moments of laughter that balanced the intensity of the competition. These experiences reinforced the idea that learning also happens in community.

If This Were a Movie…

Asked to imagine the Tournament of Champions as a movie, students’ answers ranged from playful to poetic — capturing the emotional highs, challenges, and unpredictability of the journey. Titles such as “An Unforgettable Fever Dream,” “TOC: Revamped,” and even “Shenanigans in the USA” reflected a blend of intensity, humour, and lasting impact.

One student jokingly summed it up as a film filled with “randomness,” unexpected turns, and memories that would linger long after the credits rolled.

Achievements at the Tournament of Champions Despite the demanding nature of the competition, SJIS students and student-interns achieved commendable results across multiple categories:

● Jeevika earned a Gold Medal in Debate and a Gold Medal in Writing.

● Sofie achieved a Silver Medal in Debate.

● Eu Liang secured a Gold Medal in Debate and placed within the Top 55 Debate Teams.

● Syuqri received a Silver Medal in Debate and a Gold Medal in Writing.

The student-interns also made their mark: ● Joanna Marie Smithcoward achieved a Top 20 Debate Team placement, a Gold Medal in Writing, and a Scholar’s Challenge Quiz medal. ● Jamie Alexander Smithcoward was part of a Top 20 Debate Team and earned three Scholar’s Challenge Quiz medals.

A Journey Worth Remembering As the programme concluded, students expressed deep gratitude to their families and to Teacher Vima for the guidance and support provided throughout the journey. For many, the Tournament of Champions was not just a competition, but a meaningful milestone — one that challenged them academically,

shaped them personally, and broadened their understanding of the world.

The World Scholar’s Cup Tournament of Champions was, ultimately, a journey of growth, resilience, and connection. Seri Jubli International School is proud of all participants for representing the school with confidence, character, and heart on the global stage.

2025 SJIS ANNUAL CAMP (Y6 - Y11) 26–28 November 2025 | Pulai Springs Resort, Skudai

From 26 to 28 November 2025, nearly 200 students, teachers, and staff from Year 6 to Year 11 gathered at Pulai Springs Resort, Skudai for the SJIS Annual Camp. Centred on the theme “The Year That Shaped Us – Then, Now, Beyond,” the camp unfolded as a continuous story — one that students experienced together across three days through imagination, teamwork, leadership, and reflection.

Students were placed into mixed-year groups based on their Houses, allowing younger and older students to work side by side, learn from one another, and build connections beyond their usual year groups.

Day 1 – Then & Beyond: Entering the Story Day 1 marked the beginning of the camp’s narrative.

Through emoji games and ice-breakers, students eased into their new House-based groups, getting to know teammates from different year levels and setting the foundation for collaboration.

The story then unfolded as students were introduced to the idea of travelling into the past using a time machine.

Working in their groups, students were tasked with designing and building their own time machines, using creativity and teamwork to imagine how they would journey back in time together.

“It was fun and I liked working with my group,” shared Fraser Lim (Y9), reflecting the spirit of collaboration across Houses.

That night, the camp narrative jumped forward into the future with OMC (Organised Mass Chaos) — a fast-paced, task-based team competition. OMC challenged students to work under pressure, think on their feet, and rely on one another as a team, reinforcing the idea that the future is shaped by cooperation and leadership.

When asked about the highlight of the camp, Yuvan (Y8) summed it up in one word: “OMC!” Camp Court: Responsibility with a Smile Running throughout the entire camp was Camp Court, introduced by Camp Commander Tr. Morven. Camp Court served as a fun and engaging way to address students who did not abide by camp rules.

Rather than being punitive, Camp Court used creative and light-hearted “punishments” to reinforce expectations, teaching students accountability while keeping the camp atmosphere positive and enjoyable.

Day 2 – Now: Living in the Present The second day shifted focus to the present moment. The morning began with a Photo Challenge, where teams worked together to capture creative moments around the resort.

“The photo-taking activity was the highlight of the camp,” shared Sofie (Y10).

In the afternoon, teams presented their time machines, explaining their ideas and teamwork process. This was followed by testing the time machines in the pool, where laughter filled the air as students discovered whether their creations could float.

The energy continued with the Year 11 water games, which many students cited as a highlight.

That evening, students gathered for House Time led by Tr. Zul, where they took part in team-building challenges that

strengthened House spirit and cooperation. The night concluded with student elections, giving students the opportunity to step forward into leadership roles and be entrusted with responsibility.

Day 3 – Beyond: Gratitude and Closure The final day brought the camp to a meaningful close with the Thanksgiving Session led by Tr. Paulus. This reflective session created space for gratitude, reconciliation, and emotional closure.

For many students — especially seniors — the session marked the end of a shared chapter and a moment to appreciate friendships and guidance received throughout the year.

Student Reflections Student feedback consistently reflected themes of enjoyment, friendship, and growth:

“Being in a room with friends,” was the highlight for Reyshven (Y8).

“Good, fun but tired,” wrote Rozanne Neo (Y7), capturing the overall spirit of the camp.

“Free time,” shared Yu Jun (Y6), highlighting the value of unstructured moments with friends.

A Collective Effort The 2025 SJIS Annual Camp was more than a programme — it was a carefully designed experience that brought students together across Houses and year levels, fostering imagination, responsibility, leadership, and appreciation.

Heartfelt thanks go to Tr. Liz, our Camp Coordinator, and the entire camp committee, whose dedication, planning, and tireless behind-the-scenes work made this camp possible. Their efforts ensured that every part of the story — Then, Now, and Beyond — came together seamlessly.

PAST EVENTS OPEN DAY & TRY-OUT DAY (11 OCTOBER & 6 DECEMBER) SJIS Open Day and Try-out Day were organised to give families a meaningful insight into learning and school life at SJIS. Open Day featured student-led initiative booths, an art exhibition, a physical fitness challenge, an Education Fair with tertiary institutions, and guided campus tours. Try-out Day focused on hands-on experiences through free trial classes, an art exhibition, Early Years Fun activities, and campus tours. Together, both events allowed parents and students to experience our learning approach, meet our teachers, and better understand the SJIS environment.

JOHOR LEAD CONVENTION (25 OCTOBER) The Johor LEAD Convention (JLC) 2025, themed “National Unity in Motion,” brought together 17 schools and 110 participants at Seri Jubli International School. The programme included plenary sessions on unity, the 7P’s LEAD Workshop, pre-judging sessions, and the signature M.A.D (Make A Difference) Project presentations, where secondary students proposed community-based initiatives while strengthening leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. SJIS recorded a 92% participation rate, with several teams placing in the Top 5 of the M.A.D competition. As a key organising school, SJIS also supported facilitation, logistics, and overall programme coordination. Supported by PPD Kluang and various partners, JLC 2025 continued to grow as a meaningful platform for youth empowerment, national unity, and community-driven innovation.

Y6 & Y11 GRADUATION CEREMONY (22 NOVEMBER) The Y6 and Y11 Graduation Ceremony marked an important milestone for the SJIS community as we gathered to celebrate our students’ growth, resilience, and new beginnings. Graduates shared performances and heartfelt words of appreciation for their parents, making the occasion both meaningful and memorable. We were especially proud of our valedictorians, Reyneisha (Year 11) and Rui Yao (Year 6), who spoke with maturity, gratitude, and hope for the journey ahead. We extend our sincere thanks to all parents, families, and friends for celebrating this special day with us, and our deepest appreciation to Tr. Farah and the graduation committee for their dedication in making the ceremony a truly memorable one.

SJIS PRIMARY ANNUAL CAMP (Y1–Y5) (26–28 NOVEMBER) The SJIS Primary Annual Camp for Year 1 to Year 5 students was a fun and enriching three-day, two-night experience focused on teamwork, confidence-building, and reflection. The camp began with school-based activities including house games, ice-breaking sessions, role play, and water games, helping students build friendships and self-confidence. On the second day, students travelled to Johor Bahru for experiential activities at Toppen Mall, where younger students participated in Olymkids and older students took on challenges at Game On, before returning to school for a role-play showcase. The camp concluded with an appreciation and reflection session, giving students the opportunity to share their learning and personal growth. Sincere thanks go to Camp Coordinator Tr. Joyce and her committee for their dedication and careful planning, which made the camp a smooth and memorable experience for all.
