DearStudentsandParents,
As the final chapter of another school year comes to a close, I find myself reflecting not just on the year gone by but on the journey we have travelled together since the formation of our school in 2020. Each December, I have shared a message with you that encapsulates the spirit of the year, and as I look back, I see threads of growth, gratitude, and resilience weaving through our shared story.
• 2020 taught us the art of navigating storms, reminding us that while time flies, we are the pilots of our own journeys. Amid uncertainty, we celebrated courage and determination, pressing on together as a community.
• 2021 was a year of challenges and blessings. We counted our gifts, found strength in collaboration, and embraced gratitude. It reminded us to cherish the good, let go of the bad, and march forward with boldness and courage.
• 2022 invited us to pause and
reflect deeply. We asked ourselves: What went well? What could be better? How do we grow from our experiences? It was a year of learning from reflection and using those insights to strengthen our resolve for the future.
• 2023 celebrated the power of memories. Through the relationships we built and the stories we created, we learned to treasure the moments that shape us and to find joy in the journey itself.
As we close the year 2024, I want us to pause and think about how far we have come, both individually and as a school community. This year has been another remarkable chapter, one filled with milestones, challenges, and triumphs. We have grown together, learned together, and celebrated together.
I came across a quote that resonates with this moment: “Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity. It makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”
In the spirit of gratitude, let us:
1. Celebrate our milestones: From academic achievements to cocurricular victories, every step forward is a testament to our dedication and hard work.
2. Embrace our challenges: They have refined us, teaching us resilience and perseverance.
3. Honour our relationships: The connections we’ve built with classmates, teachers, and parents are the bedrock of our community.
4. Treasure our memories: Let’s cherish the laughter, the learning, and the shared experiences that have enriched our lives.
To our Year 11 graduates, congratulations on reaching this significant milestone. Your journey with us has been inspiring, and we are so proud of the individuals you have become. You leave us with a legacy of wonderful memories, and we know you will continue to shine as you step into the future.
To our teachers and staff, thank you for your unwavering commitment and passion. You are the heart of this school, and your efforts have made all the difference in shaping the lives of our students.
To our parents, your partnership and support have been invaluable. Together, we have built a community that nurtures and uplifts our students, preparing them for the road ahead.
To our students, thank you for your enthusiasm, creativity, and hard work. You inspire us every day, and we are excited to see what you will accomplish in the years to come.
As we bid farewell to 2024, let us carry forward the lessons we have learned, the memories we have created, and the relationships we have built. Let us approach the new year with hope, determination, and a commitment to becoming the best versions of ourselves.
Hoping that these year-end addresses have helped guide and inspire your journey and that you have enjoyed reading them as much as I have enjoyed writing them.
Signing off for the year, I leave you with this thought: “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”
Let us continue to make memories, forge positive relationships, and walk confidently into the future, together.
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, a joyful holiday season, and a blessed New Year. See you in 2025!

On 7th November 2024, Seri Jubli International School celebrated the Festival of Lights with a dazzling array of performances and activities, bringing students and teachers together to honour the rich traditions of Deepavali. Organised by House Terra, the event showcased the collaborative efforts of students and teachers, who worked tirelessly to ensure its success.
The celebration was anchored by two emcees, Reyshven from Year 7 and Jeevika from Year 9, both of whom took on this role for the first time. Despite their initial nervousness, they rose to the occasion, demonstrating poise and resilience.
Reyshven shared, "Speaking in front of a crowd was a challenge, but I managed by taking deep breaths and staying calm." He also expressed his gratitude to Tr. Roselyn, saying, "She believed in me, even though I messed up on some things."
Jeevika reflected on the challenges of managing last-minute amendments during the programme. "I believe I handled it the best I could alongside my MC partner," she said. However, she noted that the event's flow could be improved by having contestants gather beforehand to avoid delays.
The celebration was packed with activities that engaged students across all Key Stages. From KS1’s creative Diwali pop-up card-making session to KS4’s vibrant Bollywood dance competition, every moment was filled with excitement and cultural appreciation. The secondary station games, rangoli competitions, and storytelling performances added depth and variety to the event, allowing students to immerse themselves in the traditions of Deepavali.
The emcees played a vital role in ensuring the smooth flow of the event, keeping the audience engaged even during the post-lunch dip in energy. Their adaptability and teamwork helped maintain the programme’s momentum.
Beyond celebrating cultural traditions, the event was a valuable learning experience for the organisers. Here’s what some of them had to say about their involvement:
1. Your Role During the Deepavali Celebration I was in charge of operating the PA system and planning KS1 activities (Diwali pop-up cards). KS1 students (Years 1–3) were guided to showcase their creativity and craftsmanship to decorate pop-up card templates. This required significant effort from the Terra team. However, thanks to my team's hard work, we prepared the templates just in time for the event.
2. The Most Challenging Task You Faced and How You Managed It
The main challenges we faced were a lack of
Rayyan (Year 9)
resources and manpower. Terra's task required us to handmake a large number of templates for the KS1 students. Additionally, due to insufficient templates, we had to guide multiple students simultaneously to create the cards from scratch using plain paper.
3. The Part of the Event You Are Most Proud Of I am proud of successfully operating the PA system, including managing slides, playback audio, and stage lights during the KS1 Storytelling Competition and the KS4 Bollywood Dance Competition.
1. Your Role During the Deepavali Celebration I was the group leader for the secondary station games. My responsibilities included creating the games and ensuring everything went according to plan.
2. The Most Challenging Task You Faced and How You Managed It
The main challenge was the lack of members attending training and briefings. As a result, some group
4. Changes You Would Make to the Event Organisation I would teach and demonstrate the method of cutting out the pop-up cards on stage instead of splitting manpower into groups to manage multiple students simultaneously.
5. Additional Thoughts or Words of Gratitude I would like to express my sincerest appreciation to Tr. Roselyn, our Terra house teacher, for her guidance and support. Without her efforts, we would not have been able to organise the event so well. Although she has now resigned from Seri Jubli, I honour her love and patience towards Terra members.
members were unclear about their roles during the event.
3. The Part of the Event You Are Most Proud Of I am most proud of receiving positive feedback from both teachers and my friends.
4. Changes You Would Make to the Event Organisation I would adopt a stricter approach to ensure all
1. Your Role During the Deepavali Celebration I was the game master and a KS2 helper. My responsibilities included organising KS2 rangoli activities and the "Blow the Candles" game.
2. The Most Challenging Task You Faced and How You Managed It
Teamwork was the most challenging aspect. To address this, I held meetings with my teammates to ensure better coordination.
3. The Part of the Event You Are Most Proud Of I am proud of the KS2 rangoli activities because I heard positive feedback about them.
members understand their roles and responsibilities.
5. Additional Thoughts or Words of Gratitude I would like to thank Tr. Roselyn, Tr. Shamre, and Tr. Meena for their guidance.
4. Changes You Would Make to the Event Organisation I would replace the bottle caps used in the rangoli activities with colourful rice for a more vibrant effect.
5. Additional Thoughts or Words of Gratitude I would like to thank Tr. Shamre and Tr. Roselyn for their support.
Ng Ke Xuan (Year 9)
1. Your Role During the Deepavali Celebration
I was in charge of teaching Year 11 students the Deepavali dance. We spent around two months practising, and everything went unexpectedly well.
2. The Most Challenging Task You Faced and How You Managed It
The main challenge was that some students were reluctant to dance or unable to stay back for practice. We adapted by reducing the number of dancers from eight to six.
3. The Part of the Event You Are Most Proud Of I am most proud of the open dance.
4. Changes You Would Make to the Event Organisation I would manage the time more effectively to allow for more practice or better preparation.
5. Additional Thoughts or Words of Gratitude I would like to thank the Year 11 students for cooperating and doing their best in the Deepavali dance.
The event wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and guidance of the Terra house teachers, particularly Tr. Roselyn, Tr. Shamre, and Tr. Meenakshi, whose unwavering support and belief in their students inspired them to give their best.
"I am proud of my Year 7 to Year 9 students for stepping up and carrying out the Deepavali celebration with such dedication, especially in the absence of their seniors, who were tied up with exams. They displayed a remarkable level of obedience and reliability—when given a task, they committed to it wholeheartedly. While they still rely heavily on guidance, their willingness to learn and enthusiasm shone brightly throughout the event."
"As the house teacher for Terra, I am incredibly proud of how our house members organised the Deepavali celebration. The Bollywood dance performance was a delightful showcase of both traditional and modern Indian dances, captivating the audience with its vibrancy. The station games were thoughtfully planned, offering students and teachers a hands-on experience of Indian culture."

From the perspective of our Camp Commandant, Tr. Liz Lee
Planning a camp for nearly 200 people is no small task— especially when the goal is to create a fun, exciting, and meaningful experience for students and staff. Since April 2024, the wheels had been turning: brainstorming ideas, choosing the ideal theme, and fine-tuning the details to make the 2024 SJIS Annual Camp a standout event. After months of hard work, everything finally came together at Beacon Resort, Kerling, from 27th-29th November, with a record-breaking attendance of more than 95%—nearly 200 participants, including teachers, students, and staff!
The theme this year? "The Amazing Race!" Imagine a giant obstacle course blended with a treasure hunt, packed with exciting challenges. As camp commandant, my goal was clear: to ensure everyone had fun, strengthened teamwork, and deepened their friendships while creating lasting memories.
Activities: "The Amazing Race"
We kicked things off with six jam-packed sessions, each tied to the "Amazing Race" theme. Here’s a peek at what we got up to:
• Session 1: Ice-breaker
No camp is complete without breaking the ice first! Led by Tr. Dani, students had to unscramble names to find their team members. It was a whirlwind of chaos and excitement as everyone quickly got into their respective groups, led by the Year 8 students.
• Session 2: Amazing Race Night Edition Nighttime brought its own adventure during the Amazing Race Night Edition. Teams raced through a series of darkened stations, solving puzzles and overcoming challenges. But the true highlight of the night was the Macarena Dance! Everyone joined in the fun, shaking their hips and doing the famous dance together. It was a hilarious, bonding moment that set the tone for the rest of the camp.
• Session 3: Amazing Race Sports Edition
The Sports Edition was a true test of strength, agility, and teamwork. One of the standout moments was the "Snatch the Cone" station, where teams competed to see who could snatch the most cones in record time. It was a thrilling, high-energy challenge that got everyone pumped up!
• Session 4: Amazing Race Water Games
When the water games arrived, so did the rain! But the students didn’t let the weather dampen their spirits. From soaking their teammates to pouring water on their house teachers, the water games
brought plenty of excitement and laughter (even if we were all a little soggy by the end!).
• Session 5: House Time & Elections
Led by Tr. Zul, House Time gave students the chance to bond with their house members, while also participating in elections for house leadership positions. Tr. Zul reminded everyone of the kind of leader we all should strive to be. There were times of reflection, some laughs, and moments of growth as students stepped into leadership roles.
• Session 6: Thanksgiving Session
The camp ended on a heartfelt note with the Thanksgiving Session, led by Tr. Paulus. This emotional session allowed students and staff to express appreciation for each other, apologise where needed, and bid farewell to the Year 11 students and Tr. Roselyn. As always, there were tears—lots of tears—but also a sense of gratitude that left everyone with warm hearts.
• Free Time Fun: Hot Springs and River
The camp wasn’t all about the activities—students had some well-deserved free time to unwind too. Many took the opportunity to visit the nearby hot springs and river, but unfortunately, the rain didn’t quite cooperate. Still, students made the best of the situation and found ways to enjoy themselves, even if the weather wasn’t perfect.
Of course, no camp is without its unexpected twists and turns! One moment that stood out for me (and left me slightly traumatised) was when Rayyan slipped during the water games and hit his head. My mind raced with worst-case scenarios: "Is he going to have a concussion? Do we need an ambulance? What’s going to happen?!" Fortunately, Rayyan was fine, but it was a stark reminder of how quickly things can shift during high-energy activities.
Another surprise? The Appreciation Jar. I received heartfelt letters from students that brought tears to my eyes. The messages of thanks and appreciation reminded me of why I do what I do—it’s all about making a positive impact on the students.
It’s not every day you get to see students step into leadership roles, but I was genuinely impressed by the Year 8 students as they took charge during various activities. They did an excellent job, rising to the occasion with confidence and enthusiasm. Witnessing their growth and leadership skills over just three days was truly inspiring!
One of the best moments for me was hearing students and teachers alike say that this was the best camp they’ve ever
attended! It was humbling to hear the positive feedback, especially from students who told me that they had the time of their lives. When teachers expressed that the camp was well-organised and not too exhausting, I knew all the planning had paid off.
The moment that truly made me proud was when Tr. Zul said to Tr. Paulus, "Getting Tr. Liz to run the camp this year was the best decision!" That moment, combined with the overall success of the camp, made all the hard work feel so worth it.
A huge thank you goes to everyone who made this camp such a success. It truly couldn’t have been done without each and every one of you:
• Tr. Paulus and Tr. Zul, for trusting me with the camp organisation and supporting me every step of the way.
• Tr. Dani, for bringing so much energy to the games and activities.
• Tr. Fazrin, for handling all the logistics and ensuring safety with a smile.
• Ms. Chao Yee, for keeping everything organised despite it being her first camp.
• Tr. Mei Yen, for managing the finances with precision.
• All the teachers and staff who supported in ways both big and small.
• And of course, the Year 11 students especially Canny, Haran, and Yuki, who made the water games unforgettable.
I hope that the memories from this camp will stay with all the teachers and students, especially those attending for the last time. Whether it was laughter during the water games or the heartfelt hugs and tears during the Thanksgiving Session, the experiences we shared will surely hold a special place in everyone’s hearts for years to come. Here’s to another successful year of camp memories!
SJIS made an outstanding impact at the World Scholar’s Cup – Tournament of Champions, held at Yale University in November. Chaperoned by Tr.
