Dream Big Start Small Dig Deep

Dream Big Start Small Dig Deep
A favourite quote I’ve come across this year is this – “Dream Big, Start Small, Dig Deep.” Recently, I sat the entire school down during assembly to take a quick look and evaluate their learning journey this year. I spoke on the importance of setting goals and broke it down for them using the ‘10 steps to achieve your goals’ by a blog article – Your Therapy Source (YTS).
The steps were:
1. Take action.
2. Try hard.
3. Keep practising.
4. Explore a different way.
5. Ask someone how to do it better.
6. Do your best.
7. Learn how others have done it.
8. Build upon your strengths.
9. Review and fix any mistakes.
10. Don’t give up.
I took them through each step, encouraging them to assess their response and evaluate the outcome. Although many of the steps may seem simple, I acknowledge the courage and determination it takes to keep at it to achieve our goals. It was a good exercise for myself too to reflect on my own goals.
As we approach the middle of 2023, I’d like to encourage everyone to look at your goals: How far along are you? What steps have you taken to continue your pursuit? Did you set goals to begin with? Let’s pause and reflect.
Wherever you are, whatever you’ve accomplished, whatever the failures, PRESS ON! Keep reviewing, keep evaluating, keep GOING! Just keep taking the next step. Let’s continue to DREAM BIG, START SMALL and DIG DEEP!

Introduction
Tr. Farah is the Primary Coordinator of Seri Jubli International School. She has a bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Child Psychology from UCSI University, KL. She has seven years of teaching experience and has taught in international schools as well as special needs centres. Three years ago, she decided to move back to Kluang, her hometown.
On 28th April 2023, 9 secondary students and 2 teachers travelled to Destiny International School, Muar for the Destiny Talent Festival and Art Exhibition. Seri Jubli had taken part in the art competition held earlier where 6 of our students (Yu Xuan, Jeevika, Rachael, Vanessa, Xin En, Yi Qi) were shortlisted to be showcased in the Art Exhibition. Our students did an amazing job with their artwork! The event itself, which was a first for Destiny International in 5 years, was also amazing! They had wonderful decorations, a well air-conditioned hall, amazing lights and a fantastic audio-visual crew.
For the Talent Festival, we got to see the talented students from Destiny International present various performances! Seri Jubli also presented 3 solo performances by Sherlyn, Yi Jin and Joslyn. At the end of the night, our girls won a few awards including Vanessa who won the Judges’ Choice Award for her Artwork.
A big shout out to Destiny International for their hospitality! It was a starry experience to remember indeed! Here are some comments by our students:
At first, I was pretty shocked that my art was chosen for the showcase since there were a lot of other art pieces which were better, but I was grateful to have my art in a showcase for the first time. Going for the event was exciting. Even though I was in the car with some people whom I wasn’t close with, I felt like our tiny road trip made us bond more. Also, the hall was superrr fancy, and all the performances were interesting. Our school's singers did well too!

I am very happy and proud to have been chosen to go to the event. The performances were amazing and some of our friends even got prizes! We also took lots of memorable photos there. We had lots of fun that day!
Actually, I was very surprised that I was chosen for the showcase. The art exhibition was nice! All the performances were really amazing! For me, this is my first time enjoying live performances like this. It was such a memorable day for me.

I performed “Rewrite the Stars” at the Destiny International School's talent show. Before I went on stage, I felt nervous and scared that I would make mistakes on the stage. Though I was nervous, I still enjoyed the experience of singing on stage. The
other performers did a great job too. They performed many marvellous performances and I enjoyed it a lot!
- Sherlyn, Y8
Performing “Talking to the Moon” with my guitar was a nice experience for me. I enjoyed it more than I felt nervous. I also got to know many new friends. They were all friendly so it made me feel unrestrained. Hope to go there again! :)
- Yi Jin, Y11
It was really a great experience to visit the Destiny Talent Show. The students were so friendly and helpful in guiding us where to go. I was impressed by how talented Destiny’s students were. The piano performance sounded like an orchestra. The songs they sang were incredible, making me hum along with them. The artworks that were painted were so creative and breathtaking. The most memorable performance was Rosanne who sang “Warrior” and danced to “Counting Stars”. Her voice was so lovely and the confidence she had was amazing. Hope to visit Destiny again!
- Yi Qi, Y10
I had a chance to perform “Yellow by Coldplay” at the Destiny Talent Show. At first, I was pretty nervous but as soon as I went up to the stage and sang, I felt relieved because it was too dark so I couldn’t even see the audience. I met many talented people from Destiny and they were all amazing! I’m starting to look forward to their visit to our school in July.

Joslyn, Y11 Photos by: Tr. Joel WongOn the 27th of April, I celebrated Hari Raya in school with my friends! I came to school with my red chequered shirt and saw a lot of my friends also wearing their baju rayas! We had classes as usual that day, then after lunch we lined up in front of the MPH and got ready to head into the hall for the event! Teacher Nabilla, who was in her beautiful baju raya, told us what Hari Raya was and showed us a video about it!
After the video, the students were divided into two groups for activities: I (KS2) was paired with KS4 while KS1 was paired together with KS3 to make some Gigantic Raya cards! For our activity, we got to make chocolate breadsticks! We went to the canteen and were sorted into two groups. I got chosen for the “dipping” group while others were chosen for the decorating team! Everything smelled so good! In order to make the chocolate breadsticks, we had to take breadsticks and dip them in chocolate and then decorate them!
A lot of the teachers said that our group’s chocolate was very good since my team members kept stirring and stirring the chocolate, which made it very smooth! After a while, we made a lot of chocolate dipped breadsticks! Then, we cleaned our table, washed the utensils and headed back into the hall. It felt and sounded like a very busy mall in there since it was so crowded! I saw big Raya cards made by the KS1 and KS3’s!
Overall, I really enjoyed working together with my other house members while we dipped and decorated the breadsticks together. I also learnt some new stuff from the event and had a lot of fun!
