Inthelastissueofournewsletter,Itouchedonbullying,givingareminderofthingsourschoolstandsagainst.Thismonth,I wouldliketocoverourcoreVALUES,orinotherwords,whatourschoolstandsfor.

Theword‘Values’isdefinedas‘themoralprinciplesandbeliefsoracceptedstandardsofapersonorsocialgroup’bythe Collinsdictionary.Simplyspeaking,itreflects“Whoweare”and“Whatwebelievein”asaschool.Ourcorevaluesare summarisedbytheacronymVIRTUE.Theyareasfollows:

VIRTUEdefineswhoweare,narratingouridentityand directionofwhatwehopeourstudentsstrivetobe. RecentlyIhadtheprivilegetohighlightourvaluesagain withourteam,studentsandparents.Thisisacollective effortaswecontinuetopressforwardasaschool. Togetherwitheveryonefromeachleveloftheschool community,wejointogethertobelieveandbuildupon thesevalues.Weregardcharacter-buildingasthe foundationalblockofourvisionofholisticeducation. FosteringoutstandingattitudeandimpartingVIRTUEis fundamentalindevelopingstrongpersonalitiesin children,makingthemamazingpeoplereadytotakeon theworld.AsthefamousphilosopherAristotleonce said,“Educatingthemindwithouteducatingtheheartis noteducationatall”.Thus,letuscherishourvaluesof VIRTUEtowardsavirtuousholisticgrowththathasthe potentialtomakeglobalimpact.

亲爱的学生及家长们，

在上期的月刊，我提及了校园欺凌，提醒大家我们一直都在反对的事。本月 份，我想介绍的是我们的核心价值观，换句话说，是本校的理念。 根据《柯林斯英语词典》中，“价值观”一词定义为“一个人或社会群体的道 德原则和信仰亦或公认标准”。简而言之，价值观反映了作为一所学校，“我 们是谁”和“我们相信什么”。本校的核心价值观概括了VIRTUE首字母的缩写 词，如下：

VIRTUE定义了“我们是谁”，阐述了身为校方的我们希望学生们努力前进的 方向。近期，我很荣幸地能再次与我们的团队、学生们和家长们分享我们的价 值观。这也是作为一所学校继续向前迈进的所需要的一项努力。我们与学校校 园社区各阶层人士一起，相信并共同建立这些价值观。我们将品格建设视为我 们实现全人教育远景的基 石。培养出色的态度和传授 VIRTUE是培养出学生们坚 强个性的基础，使他们成为 准备迎接世界的优秀人才。 正如著名古希腊哲学家亚里 斯多德曾经说过的那样， “教育的本质是教育心智， 而非教育头脑”。因此，让 我们珍惜VIRTUE的价值 观，以实现良性整体增长以 产生全球影响的潜力。

Asamotheroffour,I’vealwaysvaluedmykids’learningprocess insteadoftheirfinalresults.ThisisnotbecauseIamalaid-backmum whodoesnotbelievethatgoodresultsareimportantforasmoother careerpathorbetterfuture.Rather,Istronglybelievethathavinga goodlearningattitudeisfarmoreimportantthanthefinalresults.One shouldnotbejudgedjustbythenumberofcertificatesandmedals onehasachieved.

FromaFoodSciencegraduateventuringintowhat IamdoingnowastheAdminandHRManagerin aneducationalinstitute,ithasdefinitelybeenabig changeforme.ItwillnotbeaneasypathbutI trustIwillbeabletoachieveanythingifIkeepmy mindopenandneverstoplearning.IhopeIcanbe arolemodelformychildrenaswell.Here,Iwould liketourgeparentstolookbeyondthe accomplishmentsofyourchildren.Instead,always encouragethemwhentheyfacechallengesinlife andmotivatethemtohaveapositivelearning attitude.Also,lookforplaceswheregoodlearning attitudescanbecultivatedduringtheirschooling days.Onlythroughcontinuouslearningcanone achievemorewithgreatersuccess.

Learningisalifelongprocess.AlbertEinsteinoncesaid,“Ifyoustop learning,youstartdying”.Livinginthisdayandage,everythingis changingrapidly:Beitchangesintechnology,economics,politicsor eventheenvironment.Weneedtokeeplearningandbeopento acceptchangessothatweareabletoembracethechangesinour dailylives.

Passionandcuriosityin learningiscrucialfora childtocultivatea positivelearning attitude,especially duringtheearlystages. Thiswillhelpthemgoa longway.Andforthis reason,weas educatorsandparents needtobeconscious andsupporttheir interestinlearning. AccordingtoForbes’ HumanResourceCouncil,oneofthekeytraitsrecruiterslookforin employeesnowadaysistheattitudeofcontinuouslearning.An organisationcanbedriventonewheightswithinnovationsand improvementswhenemployeesareengagedincontinuouslearning. Ithasalsobeenobservedthatsuchemployeeshavehigherjob satisfactionandstaylongerinthecompanyaswell.

Vs. 积极的学习态度：

哪个对孩子更重要？

身为四个孩子的母亲，我一直都很重视 孩子们的学习过程，而不是他们的的成 绩。这并不是因为我是个慵懒的母亲， 也不是不相信好的成绩对于顺利的职业 道路或更好的未来来说很重要。反之， 我坚信拥有良好的学习态度远比学习成 绩来得重要。我们不能仅以获得得证书 和奖牌数量来判断一个人。

学无止境，科学家爱因斯坦曾说过： “当你停止学习，你就会开始死亡”。 活在这个时代，周遭的一切都在迅速地 变化；无论是科技、经济、政治甚至是 环境的变化。我们需要通过不断地学习 并乐于接受改变，以便能够接受日常生 活中的变化。

学习的热忱与好奇心对于 培养孩子积极的学习态度 至关重要，尤其是在幼儿 阶段。这将有助于他们往 后的学习道路。有鉴于此 原因，身为教育者及家长的我们须有此意 识并支持他们对于学习的兴趣。

福布斯人力资源委员会指出，如今招聘公 司在寻找员工的关键特征之一是有抱有持 续学习的态度。唯有员工不断地学习，方 可通过创新和改进让公司更加向前迈进。 此外也能发现到的是，这些员工的工作满 意度更高，在任职于同家公司的时间也更 长了。

从一名食品科学专业毕业生转型成为现任 教育机构的行政和人力资源经理，这对我 而言是一个巨大的变化。这是一条崎岖的 路，但我坚信如果我保持思想开放且不停 歇地学习，我将能够取得更大的成就。我 也希望能成为我孩子们的榜样。在此，我

LuahWanKhunistheAdministration&HRManagerof SeriJubliInternationalSchool.ShegraduatedinFood ScienceandTechnologyfromtheUniversityofNew SouthWales(Australia).BeforemovingbacktoKluang, sheworkedforaUSmultinationalcompanyinSingapore for10years.Sheisalsoamotheroffourandwas activelyinvolvedinprogramspromotingparent-child relationshipsinthelocalcommunity.

TEACHER’S CORNER

InthisissueofJubliTimes,wewillbefeaturingourTeacher’sAppreciationWeekwhichhappenedonthe lastweekofSemester1,May2022.

Onthefirstdayoftheweek,theteachersweregreetedwithalovelysurprisefromthestudents,studentleadersandadmin team.Rightoutsidethestaffroomwall,abig“HappyTeacher’sDay”signwasondisplay.Thesignwasmadeoutofmany individualmessageswrittenoncolouredpost-itnotesbythestudents.Thedaycontinuedwithasimple“High5event”where studentswereencouragedtogivetheirteachersaHigh5whenevertheysawthemthroughouttheday.

Fortherestoftheweek,theteacherswerespoiltwithspecial treatsandgiftspreparedbytheadminteam.Weevenhada specialSELFIEDAYwhereteacherscouldgoaroundtaking selfieswiththeirstudents.

Onthelastdayoftheweek,wehadaspecialTeacher’sDay Celebrationwhichbeganwithafewsonganddance performancesbythestudents.Theadminteamalso preparedseveralphotomontages,whichwasfollowedbya surpriseperformancebyourPrincipal,Tr.PaulusLee.He dedicatedthesong“YouRaiseMeUp”toappreciateallthe teachers.Thedaycontinuedwithindividualclassparties, foodandgames.Finally,itwastimeforthehighlightofthe day–SJCaptain’sBallCompetition:Teachersvs.Students! ThestudentteamwasrepresentedbyYear7toYear11 students.Therewere3roundsintotal.Thestudentswere downby9pointsinthefirstroundbutmanagedtocatchup inthesecondround.Finally,theymanagedtoovertakethe teachersinthethirdroundandemergedasthechampionof thematch!Althoughtheteacherslost,theystillhadagreat timethatday!

On14thMay2022,inconjunctionwithSeriJubli’sOpenDay,we organisedtheSJISCreativeDrawingCompetition.Atotalof80 studentsfromdifferentschoolsparticipatedinthiscontest.Onthe day,participantsweregivenasimple“incomplete”drawingandwere freetounleashtheircreativitybyaddinganythingtheylikedto completethedrawing!

Wewerereallyimpressedbytheparticipants'creativityand innovation.Sohere,wewouldliketoshowcasetheartworkofthe winnersaswellasourSJISstudents!

PAST EVENTS PARENTS’MEET2&PTC12022

On11thJune,wehadour2ndParents’Meetoftheyearwhereweupdatedourparentsaboutsomeimportantdatesandinitiatives ofthe2ndhalfof2022.

WealsohadourfirstParent-TeacherConference(PTC)2022on17thJune.ForthePTC,wehadanattendanceofover80%.Weare reallygladthatmostofourparentswereabletocomeandtalktoourteachersabouttheirchild'slearningprogressinschool.

Aswebelievethatcommunicationissoimportant,wehopethatwewillbeabletocontinuetoworktogetherwithourparentsto helpourstudentsintheirprogress&growth.

Thankyoutoalltheparentswhotookthetimetoattendbothofthesesessions.

SJCROSSCOUNTRY2022

On24thJune2022,wehadourfirstbigsportseventoftheyear–SJCrossCountry2022!Thewholeschoolwasmobilisedforthis eventthatwasheldattheMPOBResearchStation.Otherthantheteachersandstaffwhoworkedtirelesslytomakethiseventa success,wearealsoverythankfultoseveralotherparties:ourparentswhocametosupportandhelpout,St.JohnAmbulanceof Malaysiawhowasthereonstandbyincaseofinjuriesaswellassomeothervolunteers.Thiseventwouldnothavebeensuccessful withoutthehelpofeveryone!

Wearealsoespeciallyproudofourstudentsfortheirdetermination,perseveranceandhardworkinpreparingforthisevent! Althoughnoteveryonereceivedamedal,youareallwinnersinoureyes!Welldone!
