Trees for Seaford
Green light to GO!
A small group of Trees for Seaford volunteers met at Seaford Golf Club in April to be instructed on safety laws and liabilities that apply to working on public roads and footpaths. Although thorough risk assessments are always carried out prior to our tree works, it’s vital that all safety rules and procedures are applied correctly to protect both the workers and the public. One legal requirement is that at least one person on site must be qualified by attending this course and passing the certification tests. The course is ‘one size fits all’ – it’s the same whether you’re planting a tree on a quiet cul-de-sac, or putting in a new lane on the M25! So as well as knowing the correct signage to display when planting or caring for our trees, we had to learn how to set up temporary road works using signs, cones and traffic lights! A huge thank you to Seaford Golf club for loaning us their beautiful Firle room, and allowing us to set up

temporary traffic lights in their field! After an interesting discussion and lots of questions, all participants passed the tests and will receive certification. In other news, Trees for Seaford was delighted to receive a Mayor’s Award for our environmental and conservation work. Many thanks to all the volunteers who help us with this vital work! The ceremony in April was an inspiring opportunity to learn about the many volunteer groups in Seaford, and the incredible work they all do. Finally, we hope you’ve seen new trees popping up all around the town. Some are planted by our volunteers, but others are part of the Local Authority Treescape Fund, and planted by East Sussex County Council. All of these young trees need lots of care – so if you have a tree outside your house, or in your road, please keep an eye on it. If you can, please give it some extra water in dry weather (a bucket or watering can of water per week is ideal).
