GRADUATION AND THE CLASS OF 2020
For the Class of 2020, there was no walk down the hill, even though Peabody Stadium was ready to welcome them, there was no Prom and no Senior Week. They did not receive their O & G yearbook until virtual school was in session this August, so they will have no autographs in their yearbook for posterity. For our scholarship recipients, there was no celebratory reception to send them off to college. Instead, the SBHS Faculty and Staff brainstormed extremely creative ways to honor and celebrate each of the Dons in the Class of 2020. They did have a lovely Senior Salute—a drive through campus under balloon archways and a walk to the front of our beautiful school. It was closure for seniors, their families, faculty and administration. The senior class was queried about how they wanted to have graduation and SBHS seniors wanted to be able to “walk down the hill” at a future date. It is our hope, as alumni, that these 505 new alumni will be able to share the experience we have had at a future time. The announcement of Distinguished Dons was done through “parade” visits to seniors’ homes by faculty and administration from their olive and gold decorated cars. Personalized yard signs adorned the seniors’ front yards and the school gave generic SBHS signs to each senior. The icing on the cake was The Cow, painted a shiny gold by faculty with the name of every graduating senior (all 505!) written in spots on Bossie’s back. And, of course, she was given her own olive-green mask.
