Trump Ally’s Killing Exposes America’s Fractured Politics

Thousands of students had gathered at Utah Valley University under clear skies to hear conservative activist Charlie Kirk speak when tragedy struck. The 31-year-old, a prominent Donald Trump ally and founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot in the neck during a campus debate. Videos from the scene captured the chaos, showing students fleeing in terror as Kirk collapsed under a tent emblazoned with “Prove Me Wrong.” Kirk, known for his advocacy of gun rights, conservative values, and opposition to transgender policies, had long warned of threats from critics but continued to engage young audiences on politically left-leaning campuses. His organization played a key role in voter mobilization that contributed to Trump’s reelection. The killing is another stark example of political violence in America, following incidents such as the Minnesota shootings of Democratic legislators, last year’s assassination

Fired FBI agents sue Kash Patel over retribution claims

Three former FBI agents have sued FBI Director Kash Patel and US Attorney General Pam Bondi, alleging the officials fired them to appease President Donald Trump. Patel allegedly told his employees that he "had to fire" those individuals because "his ability to keep his own job depended on the removal of the agents who worked on cases involving the President", according to the lawsuit.

Colorado Student Kills 1, Injures 2

A student shot two of his peers Wednesday at a suburban Denver high school before shooting himself and later dying, authorities said.

The handgun shooting was reported around 12:30 pm at Evergreen High School in Evergreen, Colorado, about 30 miles west of Denver in the Rocky Mountain foothills..

Shots were fired both inside and outside the school building, and law enforcement officers who responded found the shooter within five minutes of arriving, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Jacki Kelley said.

“In a shocking campus shooting, Charlie Kirk, a prominent Trump ally and conservative youth leader, was fatally shot while addressing students at Utah Valley University. The attack, captured on video, has sent waves of fear through political circles, highlighting the growing violence and polarization in American politics. Kirk’s death underscores how heated rhetoric, social divisions, and easy access to guns are fueling a cycle of bloodshed that threatens the nation’s democratic fabric.”

Piyush Goyal: India-US Trade Deal by November

Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal announced that the first tranche of the India–US trade agreement is expected to be finalized by November 2025. He emphasized that discussions have been progressing positively since March, with both sides expressing satisfaction with the ongoing negotiations. This

development follows instructions from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump in February 2025 to expedite the agreement. The anticipated trade deal aims to address existing trade barriers and enhance economic cooperation between the two nations. The successful conclusion of this first tranche could pave the way for further agreements, potentially leading to a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in the future. The announcement reflects a renewed commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and fostering mutual economic growth.

Microsoft Mandates

3-Day Office Work from Feb 2026

Microsoft will require employees to work from the office at least three days a week starting next year, the company said in a blog post on Tuesday. The policy will be rolled out in three phases, starting with employees near the

company's headquarters in Redmond, Washington, followed by other US locations and international employees, Microsoft's chief people officer Amy Coleman wrote in the blog.

Companies had moved to a work-fromhome setup since the pandemic owing to safety concerns. However, some tech firms including Amazon have begun to roll back those policies and now mandate workers to return to offices. Employees living within 50 miles of Microsoft's head office will be expected to work onsite three days a week by the end of February 2026, the blog said.

on social media, combined with easy access to firearms, creates fertile ground for such bloodshed.

In response, Trump called the killing a “dark moment for America” and blamed the “radical left” for fostering political violence, promising that his administration would pursue those responsible. Conservative activists have echoed calls for stricter measures against left-wing groups, highlighting the deepening polarization. Amid the national shock, bipartisan condemnation of political violence emerged, though partisan tensions were evident even during a congressional moment of silence for Kirk, which erupted into a shouting match. Utah Governor Spencer Cox, speaking emotionally, described the nation as “broken” and questioned whether the country’s violent political trajectory reflects 250 years of American history. Kirk’s death underscores the fragile state of U.S. politics, where violence begets fear, public life is increasingly unsafe, and partisan divides continue to harden, leaving the nation’s democratic future uncertain

Trump Assassination Attempt Suspect

Goes on Trial

Prosecutors have said Ryan Routh methodically plotted to kill Trump for weeks before aiming a rifle through the shrubbery as Trump played golf on September 15, 2024, Opening statements are set to begin Thursday morning for the trial of a man charged with trying to assassinate President Donald Trump while he played golf in South Florida last year, when he was campaigning for a second term. Ryan Routh is representing himself after US District Judge Aileen Cannon agreed to let him dismiss his court-appointed attorneys. They are, however, standing by in the courtroom if needed. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of attempting to assassinate a major presidential candidate, assaulting a federal officer and several firearm violations. Until this week, Routh has appeared at hearings shackled at the wrists and ankles and dressed in a tan jail jumpsuit. But with jurors present, Routh has been unrestrained and dressed in a sport coat and tie. Cannon has said that Routh will be allowed to address jurors and witnesses from a podium, but he will not have free rein of the courtroom.

Uncertainty continues in Nepal over interim government leadership

In Nepal, former Chief Justice Sushila Karki has been chosen to represent Gen Z protesters in negotiations with the Army over government formation, following a six-hour meeting. The protesters are demanding the immediate arrest of the former Prime Minister, Home Minister, and others responsible for mass killings, a new constitution limiting Prime Ministers to two terms, cancellation of politically influenced appointments in bodies like the CIAA and judiciary, and merit-based selections.

Sushila Karki, Nepal’s first woman Chief Justice, is known for her strict stance against corruption. Educated at Mahendra Morang Campus, Banaras Hindu University, and Tribhuvan University, she shifted from teaching to law, eventually becoming Chief Justice in 2016. During her tenure, she oversaw high-profile anti-corruption cases, including convictions of former ministers and officials. She survived an impeachment attempt in 2017, which was withdrawn after public backlash. Karki recently expressed her support for the Gen Z protests, condemning

Polish President Warns of Putin’s Expansion Plans

Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to invade other countries following his decision to start the conflict in Ukraine, Polish President Karol Nawrocki warned on Tuesday. "We do not trust Vladimir Putin's good intentions," Nawrocki told reporters at a press conference with Finnish President Alexander Stubb in Helsinki. Poland and Finland share borders with Russia, and both NATO members were put on edge by Moscow's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. "That is exactly why we are developing our armed forces, we are developing our partnership and our allied relations," he added, without specifying any particular measures.

The army is seeking to restore order in Nepal, after the worst violence in two decades ousted the Prime Minister and left the parliament ablaze

the government for the deaths of 19 protesters and criticizing leaders as “out of date” and lacking vision Nepal is in political turmoil after Prime

Minister KP Oli resigned on Tuesday amid anti-corruption protests sparked by a social media ban. Demonstrations began on September 8 in Kathmandu and spread to Pokhara, Butwal, and Birgunj. Protesters initially demanded the repeal of the social media ban, but their demands broadened to include ending systemic corruption and favoritism. Clashes with security forces left at least 19 dead and 500 injured, prompting curfews in major cities, including Kathmandu.

Australian Senator Defends Anti-India Remark

Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, the Australian Senator from the Northern Territory, has been at the centre of a massive controversy over her remarks about Indian migrants. She has refused to apologise for her comments, despite growing pressure from her party

members and other leaders.

Ms Price held a six-minute press conference in Perth, describing her previous comments as "certainly clumsy" but insisting she would not be silenced on issues related to mass migration, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. She also thanked supporters who backed her during the controversy.

Last week, in a radio interview, Ms Price claimed that a large number of Indian migrants had been allowed in the country so that the centre-left Labor Party, led by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, could benefit from them.

"There is a concern with the Indian community, and only because there have been large numbers. And we can see that reflected in the way that the community votes for Labor at the same time," she said.

"Israel Did Exactly What US Did": Netanyahu's 9/11 Analogy To Defend Qatar Strike

Tel Aviv:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has defended Israel's recent targeted strikes in Qatar's capital Doha, against Hamas leadership by drawing a parallel with the United States' response against the terror group Al Qaeda after the 9/11 attacks. He warned Qatar and other nations harbouring terrorists to either expel them or "bring them to justice."

"Because if you don't, we will," the Jewish leader said in a video message amid international condemnation of Israeli action. He called Hamas'

October 7 attack Israel's 9/11 moment and accused Doha of providing a safe haven to Hamas officials, whom he called terrorists.

"We did exactly what America did when it went after Al Qaeda terrorists in Afghanistan, and when they killed Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan. Now the

Hamas Leaders Survive Israeli Attack in Doha, Six Dead

The Palestinian armed group Hamas has said five of its members were killed in an Israeli air strike in Qatar's capital, but claimed that an attempt to assassinate its negotiating team "failed". Hamas said the negotiating team was meeting to discuss the latest US proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip at a residential compound in Doha when it was badly damaged by a series of explosions. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strike was "fully justified" because it targeted senior Hamas leaders who organised the 7 October 2023 attack on Israel, which triggered the Gaza war. Qatar condemned the Israeli attack, calling it "cowardly" and a "flagrant violation of international law".

Russia’s Drone Incursion into Poland Tests NATO

The Israeli action drew fierce condemnation from Doha and Western allies, with US President Donald Trump saying he was "very unhappy about every aspect" of the military operation.

various countries of the world condemn Israel - they should be ashamed of themselves," Netanyahu said. "What did they do after America took out Osama Bin Laden? Did they say, "Oh, what a terrible thing was done to Pakistan"? No, they applauded. They should applaud Israel for standing for these same principles and carrying them out."

On Wednesday, Russian drones entered Polish airspace, prompting jets to scramble and an emergency government meeting. Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk said airspace was violated 19 times, with at least three drones shot down by Polish jets, aided by Dutch F-35s and an Italian early warning aircraft. Russia denied targeting Poland, but European leaders called the attack deliberate, aimed at testing NATO. Some analysts suggest reconnaissance or GPS errors, but the large number of drones points to a calculated action. The unarmed Russian Gerbera drones may have been used as decoys to gauge NATO’s response. Tusk warned Poland is closer to open conflict than since World War II and requested consultations under NATO’s Article 4. Experts say the incursion, deliberate or not, tests NATO and European resolve. How Poland and allies respond will signal Moscow about potential Western reactions to future provocations. The US response, including that of President Trump, is being closely watched. The incident underscores the ongoing tensions on NATO’s eastern flank and the strategic challenges Europe faces in deterring Russian aggression.

It's not clear if police have any leads on the gunman - but authorities don't seem to think they're still on campus, our reporter at Utah Valley University writes. Trump Mourns Charlie Kirk’s Assassination

Trump claimed that the "rhetoric" of the radical left was directly responsible for the terrorism in America, and "it must stop right now."

President Trump called Charlie Kirk, killed in a targeted attack at Utah Valley University, a "martyr for truth" and blamed the "radical left" for fostering political violence. He described the assassination as a "heinous" and "dark moment for America" and pledged to crack down on those responsible, including organizations that support such violence. Trump urged Americans to uphold free speech, citizenship, and the rule of law—values Kirk "lived and died" for—and honored Kirk’s legacy, saying his voice is now "bigger and grander than ever before."

Charlie Kirk Shot Dead, Chaos Ensues

Charlie Kirk, a right-wing activist and close ally of former President Donald Trump, was fatally shot in the neck on Wednesday during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Videos circulating on social media show Kirk speaking under a tent at the outdoor event when a single gunshot struck him, causing blood to gush from his neck as the crowd panicked and fled. Kirk, 31, co-founded the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA and was discussing gun control moments

before the attack. Eyewitnesses said the shooter fired from the roof of a nearby building. Around 3,000 people attended the event, which had minimal security measures. Kirk was rushed to a hospital but later died, a fact confirmed by Trump on social media, who described Kirk as a beloved figure in American youth politics. Authorities have not yet arrested a suspect, calling the shooting a targeted attack, though two men were briefly detained and released. The manhunt for the shooter is ongoing.

An eyewitness said Kirk was, "ironically," talking about gun control before he was shot.

Charlie Kirk’s Comments on Indian Immigration

New Delhi: Charlie Kirk, right-wing activist and a close aide of US President Donald

was shot dead at Utah University on Wednesday during a college event. Amid the Utah horror, his recent remarks on Indian migrants, stating "America does not need more visas for people from India", have resurfaced. Kirk said that the US is "full" and it is time the country puts its own people first. "America does not need more visas for people from India. Perhaps no form of legal immigration has so displaced American workers as those from India. Enough already. We're full. Let's finally put our own people first," he wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on September 2.

15 Indians Trapped in Ukraine War Zone

Two Indian nationals told The Hindu they are trapped in Ukraine and being forced to fight for Russia. They said at least 13 other Indians are with them. All had gone to Moscow on student or visitor visas in the past six months, lured by an agent with promises of construction jobs. Instead, they were sent to the battlefield and are now lodged in a building in Selydove, a Donetsk town captured by Russia in November 2024.

Suhas Subramanyam Condemns Hindu Temple Attacks

Indian-American Congressman Suhas Subramanyam took to the House Floor to slam the spate of attacks on Hindu temples across the US. Calling them “hateful” and “unacceptable,” he said no American should fear practicing their faith.

From the BAPS Mandir in Indiana to the Sri Radha Krishna temple in Utah, sacred spaces have faced vandalism and desecration. Subramanyam warned these are not isolated incidents but part of a disturbing rise in hate and division targeting places of worship nationwide. He urged more resources for temple and community security and pledged to work across party lines to fight hate: “We must do more to protect our communities.”

Israel Warns Middle East Over Qatar Strikes

Doha, Qatar – Several explosions hit Doha on Tuesday as the Israeli military confirmed air strikes targeting senior Hamas leaders, marking Israel’s first operation in Qatar. Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana shared a video on X, calling it “a message to the entire Middle East.” The strike, months in planning, was described by the Israeli military as a precise operation against Hamas leadership. Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office took full responsibility, emphasizing it was “wholly independent.” Qatar condemned the attack as a “cowardly” violation of international law. Israel’s Finance Minister praised the military action, stating terrorists have no immunity anywhere.

Supreme Court to decide if Trump's global tariffs are legal

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear arguments on whether the Trump administration's sweeping global tariffs are legal.

On Tuesday, it said it would review lower court decisions that found the president did not have the legal authority to enact the tariffs, which were brought in through an emergency economic powers act.

Trump On India-US Trade Barriers

Washington:

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said the United States and India will resume negotiations to address “trade barriers” between the two countries.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote he was “pleased to announce” that talks are underway and that he looks forward to speaking with Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon. He expressed confidence that the two “great countries” would reach a successful conclusion.

The announcement comes weeks after Washington imposed a 50% tariff on Indian goods and an additional 25% penalty on Russian oil imports. Despite the trade tensions, Trump

described India-US ties as a “very special relationship” and stressed his personal friendship with Modi, though he added he “doesn’t like what Modi is doing at this particular moment.”

Responding to questions on whether relations could reset, Trump said there was “nothing to worry about” and that India and the US occasionally face “moments.”

Prime Minister Modi, in turn, responded warmly on X, saying he “deeply appreciates and fully reciprocates” Trump’s sentiments. He called the partnership “very positive and forward-looking,” underscoring the Comprehensive and Global Strategic Partnership between the two nations.

Trump Pushes EU for 100%

Tariffs on India, China

Donald Trump also encouraged the European Union to slap India with similarly expansive tariffs.

Washington: US President Donald Trump has urged the European Union to impose tariffs of up to 100% on India and China, two of the largest importers of Russian crude, to pressure Moscow over the Ukraine war. Trump made the request during a meeting with senior US and EU officials in Washington, emphasizing that the US would mirror any EU tariffs. Currently, Trump has already raised

levies to 50% on Indian goods and 30% on Chinese exports. Officials say the aim is to curb Russian oil purchases and cut revenue for Putin’s war.

The proposal comes amid White House frustration over stalled Ukraine-Russia negotiations. Trump has threatened further sanctions on Russia and secondary penalties on countries buying Russian oil.

The move contrasts with his earlier statements signaling positive US-India trade talks. On Truth Social, Trump had said India-US negotiations would continue smoothly and expressed confidence in a successful conclusion with PM Modi.

The proposal also highlights contradictions in Trump’s approach. While pushing for punitive tariffs on India and China, he continues to publicly praise PM Modi and emphasize smooth trade negotiations between the US and India. Analysts say this reflects a mix of economic pressure tactics and political signaling ahead of ongoing global energy and trade discussions.

"I am pleased to announce that India, and the United States of America, are continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between our two Nations," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Nepal Army Warns Mob Amid Curfew

After nationwide protests toppled PM KP Sharma Oli, Nepal has plunged into chaos with deaths, arson, and looting reported. Nineteen protesters were killed in police action, sparking more unrest led by Gen Z activists demanding an end to corruption.

The Nepal Army, led by General Ashok Raj Sigdel, imposed a curfew, secured key sites, and warned of strict action against vandalism, loot, or attacks. The Army urged protesters to halt violence and come for dialogue, stressing its duty to safeguard sovereignty and citizens’ security.

President Ram Chandra Paudel appealed for calm and talks, while borders remain closed. Essential vehicles are allowed, but any unlawful acts “in the name of protest” will be treated as punishable crimes.

Firms will hesitate to invest in US after raid - S Korea president

South Korean companies will be "very hesitant" about investing in the US following a massive immigration raid at a Hyundai plant in the state of Georgia last week, President Lee Jae Myung has said.

More than 300 South Koreans who were arrested in the raid have now been released from detention and are due to return home on Friday after having their release delayed by more than a day.

Their departure was delayed because of an instruction from the White House, Lee added.

President Donald Trump ordered the pause to check whether the workers were willing to remain in the US to continue working and training Americans, according to a South Korean foreign ministry official.

Lee, who was speaking at a news conference to mark the first 100 days of his presidency, said "the situation is extremely bewildering," while noting it is common practice for Korean firms to send workers to help set up overseas factories. "If that's no longer allowed, establishing manufacturing facilities in the US will only become more

South Korean workers detained in US set to head home

South Korean workers who were detained in the US in a massive immigration raid at a Hyundai plant in the state of Georgia are set to fly home on Wednesday, reports say.

A chartered plane will leave the US at about 14:30 local time (18:30 GMT) on Wednesday, according to Reuters news agency.

South Korean television showed a charter plane taking off from Incheon International Airport on Wednesday morning. It will reportedly return to South Korea with the detained workers on Thursday. This comes as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is due to meet South Korea's foreign minister Cho Hyun at the White House on Wednesday morning.

Before leaving for Washington on Monday, Cho said he would work with the US to prevent a repeat of the incident.

difficult... making companies question whether it's worth doing at all," he added.

Seoul is negotiating with Washington on visa options for South Korean workers "whether that means securing [higher] quotas or creating new visa categories", Lee said. "I think the US will address this if they see it as a practical necessity." Last week, US officials detained 475 peoplemore than 300 of them South Korean nationals - who they said were working illegally at the battery facility, one of the largest foreign investment projects in Georgia.

LG Energy Solution, which operates the plant with Hyundai, said that many of its employees who were arrested had various types of visas or were under a visa waiver programme. South Korea, a close US ally in Asia, has pledged to invest tens of billions of dollars in America, partly to offset tariffs.

Media in the country have described the raid as a "shock," with the Dong-A Ilbo newspaper warning that it could have "a chilling effect on the activities of our businesses in the United States".

Apple Ramps Up iPhone 17 Production in India

New Delhi: Apple has expanded iPhone 17 production across five factories in India, including a new $2.8 billion Foxconn facility in Devanahalli near Bengaluru. The devices will be available from September 19, with analysts predicting record sales during the festive season.

Apple will produce fewer ‘Pro’ models locally, while maintaining stable US dollar pricing despite global supply pressures. Experts say the expanded manufacturing marks a key milestone in Apple’s diversification strategy and could strengthen its market share in India, where 60-65% of iPhones are purchased on EMIs.

US created 911,000 fewer jobs than thought in year to March

The US economy added 911,000 fewer jobs than initial estimates had suggested in the year through March, according to preliminary data from the Labor Department released on Tuesday.

John Elkann and his siblings Lapo and Ginerva will pay €183m (£159m) to Italian tax authorities, Italian prosecutors said, according to multiple media reports.

Mr Elkann's lawyer said the agreement did not include an admission of liability from the Ferrari chair and his siblings.

Apple’s investment in India is paying off, with exports worth $7.5 billion between April and July, compared to $17 billion in the previous fiscal year. CEO Tim Cook recently highlighted India’s growing importance in Apple’s global supply chain.

New Delhi, Sep 9 – Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said the PM Modi government’s GST reforms, reducing the rate on all drones to 5%, will strengthen India’s drone ecosystem. Previously, drones with cameras faced 18% GST and personal-use drones 28%.

The uniform rate, along with exemptions for flight and motion simulators, aims to reduce costs, provide policy clarity, and encourage adoption across sectors like agriculture, logistics, infrastructure, defence, and petroleum. The move also supports Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives while generating employment in manufacturing, software, analytics, and operations.

Why This Week Changed Everything in Immigration From H-1B to Green Card

Whether you are on a H-1B, L-1, F-1 visa or are on a Green Card awaiting your naturalization – it is important to keep track of rapid policy changes and newer rules that are being introduced to ensure your lawful status in America.

It won’t be an exaggeration to say that American Immigration news is seeing a windfall of sorts these days. With policies and rules updating more rapidly than Midwest weather updates, for many on work visas it is getting challenging to keep track of what's changed on the visa front, from the last time they thought they had it all in control. In case you would have skipped taking note of any one of these blink-and-you-miss it updates, here’s a low down on some of the very important changes happening in the immigration hemisphere.

1. Big Visa Change Hits Indians Abroad

The U.S. State Department has announced that, starting immediately, people applying for temporary U.S. visas (like H-1B, L-1, F-1, J-1, O-1) can no longer choose to attend interviews in a third country like Canada or Mexico. Instead, they must go back to their home country or country of residence for the visa stamping process.

Key Points for Indians

• No more Canada/Mexico option: Thousands of Indian workers and students in the U.S. who earlier saved time by booking appointments in Canada or Mexico will now have to return to India for stamping.

• In-person interviews are back: Another important thing to keep in mind is that now most of the applicants which includes those on H-1B visas, students with F-1 visa, J-1 holding research candidates and exceptional professionals on O-1 visas – all of these categories must appear for interviews.

• Existing appointments stand: The only silver lining currently seems that If you have booked an interview already in another country, before the policy change announcement, it won’t be canceled.

• Rare exceptions only: There is still an awaited clarity on what happens to exceptions in humanitarian or diplomatic cases.

Why It Hurts Indians

• Longer delays: U.S. consulates in India already face some of the longest visa wait times in the world. Forcing all Indian applicants to return home could mean months of uncertainty.

• Higher costs: Extra travel, time off work, and family disruptions add to the burden.

• No backup option: Earlier, Indian workers could escape delays by scheduling in Canada or Mexico. That lifeline is gone.

Bottom Line

For Indian workers, students, and families in the U.S., this rule makes an already tough visa process even harder. Expect longer queues, costly trips back home, and more stress around visa renewal.

Expert Speak: California based, immigration consultant Netra Chavan says,

“The recent change that eliminates third-country national (TCN) processing, would lead to many professional as well as emotional repercussions especially for Indians. By eliminating third-country stamping, reducing interview waivers, and creating long delays, the policies make it nearly impossible for visa holders to travel home for urgent family matters, such as a parent’s funeral, a sibling’s wedding, or important religious ceremonies. This creates constant emotional distress from missing once-in-a-lifetime family and cultural moments.”

Immigration attorney and founder of The Visa Code, Gnanamookan Senthurjothi says,

“We must wait and see if any specific consular mission updates its policy to permit TCN applications or chooses to accept applicants without an explicit policy update. Given the current trend, such exceptions would likely be rare and subject to consular discretion.”

2. USCIS Agents to Carry Guns: Immigration Services Take an Enforcement Turn

In a historic shift, the agency that once only processed visas and green cards will now have armed officers with arrest powers

Earlier this week, USCIS announced a dramatic change: the agency will soon have its own special agents -- badge, firearm, and arrest authority included. These are duties that, until now, belonged almost entirely to ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

What’s Changing

USCIS won’t just refer cases to ICE anymore, it will conduct its own enforcement and investigations.

The rule, effective in 30 days, gives USCIS authority over both civil and criminal immigration infractions. Why It Matters

Cultural Shift: An agency once known for processing paperwork will now also wield enforcement power. Chilling Effect: Even genuine visa and green card applicants may feel intimidated when the officer across the desk carries a firearm.

Compliance Pressure: Employers, students, and skilled workers must brace for stricter fraud checks and tougher scrutiny.

For the Indian and immigrant community, the change raises fresh concerns. What was once a paperwork-heavy process may now feel more like a law enforcement encounter.

3. EB-2 Green Card Quota Maxed Out for 2025

For thousands of Indians waiting in line, approvals are now frozen until October 1, 2025

The U.S. Department of State has confirmed that the EB-2 immigrant visa category has officially hit its annual cap for FY 2025. In simple terms, no EB-2 green cards will be issued until the new fiscal year begins on October 1, 2025.

Why It

Matters for Indians

Embassy standstill: U.S. consulates cannot issue EB-2 visas until fresh numbers are released in October.

I-485 filings still accepted: USCIS will continue to take Adjustment of Status applications if your priority date is current under the September Visa Bulletin. But approvals will be on hold.

Delays ahead: It may be noted that most changes directly impact Indian professionals, as they are the ones who are caught in the longest backlogs in the world. The new rules add more complexity to an already delayed situation.

Steps to Take You Can Do

Plan Ahead: Expect green card approvals to be pushed into the next fiscal year, especially if you’re from India. Keep communication clear: Employers should prepare employees and leadership for these hold-ups to avoid added stress and should keep themselves updated with any new updates

Trump-Modi Ties Broken: Ex-US Official

Trump’s Ex-NSA John Bolton said the former president’s once-strong personal rapport with PM Modi is “gone now,” warning that close ties with Trump don’t shield leaders from his harsh policies. "Trump had a very good relationship personally with Modi. I think that's gone now, and it's a lesson to everybody, for example, (UK Prime Minister) Keir Starmer, that a good personal relationship may help at times, but it won't protect you from the worst," he said.

Trump’s Blunt Question to Tech CEOs

Donald Trump also pressed Google, Meta, and Microsoft CEOs on their companies' US investments.

Washington:

During a high-profile dinner with Silicon Valley honchos at the White House, US President Donald Trump grilled Apple CEO Tim Cook over the company's investment in the United States, as the iPhone maker returns "home in a big way" from "elsewhere"-- a reference that appeared to be about Apple's operations in India.

In the conversation that took place in the presence of Meta's Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Trump asked Cook, "Tim, how much money will Apple be investing in the United States? I know it's a very large amount. You were elsewhere before, and now you're really coming home in a big way. How much money will you be investing?"

The Apple CEO replied, "$600 billion." He also praised the US President for "setting the tone" for Apple to grow in America.

"I want to thank you for setting the tone such that we could make a major investment in the United States... That says a lot about your focus and your leadership and your focus on innovation," said Cook during a dinner also attended by US First Lady Melania Trump.

GST Relief Announced; Exporter Aid in Works

New Delhi: With the completion of the rationalisation of Goods and Services Tax (GST), the Centre is now gearing up for support measures for exporters hit by US tariffs, official sources told on Friday.

A set of targeted schemes may soon be announced to support sectors adversely affected by the 50 per cent tariff imposed by President Donald

Trump, sources said.

Key industries facing headwinds include textiles and apparel, as well as gems and jewellery, where exporters are struggling to stay competitive.

Beyond these, exporters in leather and footwear, chemicals, engineering goods, agriculture, and marine products are also encountering fresh challenges in global markets.

Trump’s India Tariff Likely Short-Lived: Economist

US President Donald Trump's imposition of 50 per cent tariffs on Indian goods would be short-lived as the "current approach will not be a long-term positive thing in terms of the overall relationship" between the two countries, Chief Economic Advisor

(CEA) V Anantha Nageswaran said.

Mr Nageswaran also warned that the 25 per cent tariff imposed over the purchase of Russian oil will make businesses extremely challenging and the adverse effects of this move are likely to be felt in the second and third quarters of the financial year. He expressed concerns that the impact of the tariffs could spill over to the next financial year if the situation did not change.

The CEA's remarks came amid ongoing tensions between India and the US over the latter's imposition of 50 per cent tariffs on Indian goods. On August 27, a 25% tariff was imposed on India over its purchase of Russian oil. This was in addition to the 25% duty that came into effect on August 7 in India along with 70 other nations.

Donald Trump last month imposed a 50 per cent tariff on Indian goods, including 25 per cent as a penalty for buying Russian oil.

The proposed relief package is expected to focus on the following points:

Addressing liquidity constraints faced by small exporters

Easing pressure on working capital

Ensuring job security across vulnerable export-linked sectors

Facilitating uninterrupted production while new markets are explored

Sources indicate that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government is working on a stimulus model akin to the one extended to MSMEs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In parallel, efforts are underway to operationalise the Export Promotion Mission announced in the Union Budget, aimed at boosting India's global trade footprint.

India's exports to the US during the first four months of this fiscal year have reportedly risen 21.64 per cent to USD 33.53 billion.

It was USD 86.5 billion in 2024-25.

About half of this is out of the ambit of 50 per cent tariffs.

The US accounted for about 20 per cent of India's USD 437.42 billion worth of goods exports in 2024-25.

Rubio says US will 'blow up' foreign crime groups if needed

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said the US will "blow up" foreign crime groups if needed, possibly in collaboration with other countries.

"Now they're gonna help us find these people and blow them up, if that's what it takes," Rubio said during a visit to Ecuador.

He also announced the US will designate two of Ecuador's largest criminal gangs, Los Lobos and Los Choneros, as foreign terrorist organisations.

The comments come days after US forces carried out a strike on a boat in the Caribbean Sea. The White House says it killed 11 drug-traffickers, though it did not release their identities.

Ex-US Officials Urge Trump: Recall India’s Strategic Importance

Washington: Even as India-US relations hit an unprecedented low over Trump’s tariffs on Indian imports, former US officials Jake Sullivan and Kurt M. Campbell emphasize that ties can and must be restored to prevent ceding the innovation edge to China. In a Foreign Affairs article, they highlighted that the partnership has bipartisan support and has curbed Chinese adventurism in the Indo-Pacific. They noted that Trump’s “theatrics” often precede dealmaking, but tariffs, Russian oil purchases, and tensions over Pakistan have caused a rapid downturn in bilateral relations. The officials warned that continued friction could push India closer to China and Russia, as seen in PM Modi’s recent interactions with Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin at the SCO Summit. Sullivan and Campbell stressed that Washington should avoid a “hyphenated” India-Pakistan policy and recognize India as a critical strategic partner. They cited past initiatives like the USIndia Civil Nuclear Agreement and Biden-Modi cooperation in AI, biotech, and aerospace as examples of deepening ties. Looking ahead, they proposed a strategic alliance built on five pillars, including a ten-year plan for joint work in AI, semiconductors, biotech, quantum, clean energy, telecommunications, and aerospace, aiming to foster a shared technology ecosystem and maintain a competitive edge over China. This approach, they argue, will strengthen mutual security, prosperity, and democratic values.

Trump aide warns “Tariff Maharaja” won’t end well

US President Trump’s trade advisor, Peter Navarro, threatened that it “won’t end well” for India if it doesn’t align with the US on trade. In an interview, he called India the “Maharaja” of tariffs, claiming it has the highest duties on American goods among major countries. Navarro also criticized India’s Russian oil purchases, calling them profiteering, and warned that siding with Russia and China could hurt India. He attacked the BRICS alliance, calling its members “vampires” exploiting the US through unfair trade and questioning the group’s unity, citing historical rivalries. Navarro defended Trump’s aggressive trade stance, highlighting deals with the EU, Japan, South Korea, and other countries. The remarks came after Navarro faced fact-checks on claims about India’s oil imports from Russia and criticized Indian responses on social media.

Israeli paper urges Netanyahu to follow Modi

The defence expert said that from India, Israel can learn that national honour is not a luxury but a far-reaching strategic asset.

Israeli expert urges Israel to emulate Modi’s firm stance, saying national honour is a “strategic asset.” He praised Modi for standing up to the US on tariffs and border tensions with Pakistan, contrasting it with Israel’s anxious response to the Gaza hospital bombing, which he said could harm long-term strategic interests. The defence expert compared Israel's situation with India and said, when India faced "unprecedented verbal assaults from" President Trump, PM Modi "did not rush to apologise; instead, he chose to respond forcefully, upholding national honour."

Nepal PM KP Oli resigns amid deadly anti-corruption protests

New Delhi:

Nepal Prime Minister

KP Sharma Oli resigned Tuesday after two days of violent anti-corruption agitations - led by 'Gen Z protesters' - killed 19 people and injured over 100. "The PM has quit," his aide Prakash Silwal told Reuters. Visuals showed Mr Oli leaving Kathmandu in a military helicopter. Earlier today Mr Oli chaired a meeting of all Nepalise political parties, and said 'violence is not in the interest of the nation'. We have to ensure a peaceful dialogue to find solutions to this problem, he said.

Mr Oli's resignation was a core demand of the Gen Z protesters. In Nepal, however, the Prime Minister

Hundreds took to the streets shouting slogans about corruption in the administration, including allegations of nepotism, i.e., unfair advantages for the children of those in powerful positions.

Trump immigration raids hit Boston, Chicago next

Federal agents arrested dozens in Boston over the weekend in “Patriot 2.0,” targeting released offenders accused of serious crimes. The Justice Department also sued Boston and Mayor Michelle Wu for obstructing federal enforcement. Trump signaled Chicago could be next, posting a meme on Truth Social and preparing federal forces there. Illinois officials criticized the threats, and organizers postponed a Mexican Independence Day festival amid safety concerns.

standing down, however, does not automatically mean the government has fallen.

Prime Minister Oli is the head of the executive in the Himalyan nation and it is the President, who is Ram Chandra Poudel, who is the head of the governemnt. Sources, though, told it is only a matter of time before Mr Poudel also steps down and the government is fully overthrown. For now, the fate of the Nepali government is unclear. There are reports the Army will step in till order is restored and a new government is installed. If true, that will mirror unfortunate events in Sri Lanka in 2022 and Bangladesh in 2024. In both those cases anti-corruption protests forced the Mahinda Rajapaksa and Sheikh Hasina's governments to fall.

Karisma’s kids take Sunjay Kapur estate to court

New Delhi:

In a fresh development in the highstakes battle over late industrialist Sunjay Kapur's approximately Rs 30,000 crore estate, his two children from his marriage with Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor have approached the Delhi High Court seeking their rightful share.

The siblings have filed a civil suit alleging that their stepmother, Priya Kapur (the third wife of Sunjay Kapur), has attempted to forge their father's will to gain complete control over his assets. The children, represented through their mother as legal guardian, have sought partition of the estate, rendition of accounts, and a permanent injunction against the defendants.

Indians at Risk of Deportation Despite Paying Taxes

US immigration agencies are increasingly using IRS records to identify unauthorized employment, raising deportation risks for immigrants. H-1B visa holders tied to a single employer, and student visa holders reporting side income, may now face visa extension denials, reentry bans, or deportation, even if they have paid taxes on that income. According to sources, individuals who honestly reported additional earnings on tax returns are encountering difficulties. Their visa extensions can be blocked, and they may face restrictions on re-entry, despite compliance with tax laws.

Immigration attorney Jath Shaw explained that the IRS shares data with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). “People are now being penalized for income they

reported and paid taxes on,” he said. Such issues often arise when travelers are flagged for unrelated reasons, and prior income is reviewed. H-1B holders are particularly at risk because their visas are tied to a single sponsoring company. Attorney Abhinav Tripathi warned that side income flagged in tax records could be treated as a visa violation, potentially leading to deportation. Officials clarified that income from interest or capital gains is not a concern, but freelance projects and online side jobs now carry serious risk. Authorities are scrutinizing tax records more deeply, interpreting both active and passive income, which has made the situation more complex for immigrants. Experts advise extreme caution, with one attorney noting, “Even a few dollars earned from side income could cost you your American dream.”

Organ transplants for immortality

Xi, Putin explore immortality transplants

Xi and Putin on Longevity

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin recently sparked attention when discussing organ transplants as a potential way to extend human life. During a military parade in Beijing, a translator conveyed Putin’s remark that repeatedly transplanting organs could make people “younger and younger” and might even allow humans to live to 150. While the conversation seemed lighthearted, it raises questions about medical possibilities.

The Reality of Organ Transplants

Organ transplants have saved over 100,000 lives in the UK over the past 30 years. Modern techniques have increased the longevity of transplanted organs: kidneys can last 15–50 years depending on donor type, livers around 20 years, hearts 15, and lungs nearly 10. However, multiple surgeries carry risks, and lifelong use of immunosuppressants can lead to infections, high blood pressure, and organ rejection, even with medication.

Advances in Medical Science

Researchers are working on reducing transplant risks. One method uses genetically modified pig organs through CRISPR to minimize rejection.

Indian foods raising diabetes, heart risk

That evening plate of papad, a handful of bhujia during tea, or a crispy samosa with chutney, these little indulgences often feel harmless. For many of us, they’re not just snacks but part of our everyday routine. But what if the foods we enjoy most are silently contributing to major health risks like diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and even cancer? What seems like a harmless munch can slowly build up into something far more dangerous for our bodies. Nutritionist Suman Agarwal broke down five everyday Indian foods that we should think twice before adding to our diet. Her take was clear: these snacks may taste good, but their long-term impact on health is far from sweet. From fried favourites to addictive munchies, Agarwal explained why these common items could be setting us up for lifestyle diseases, and why moderation is the key to protecting our health.

Papad

Papad is a staple on many Indian dining tables, but according to Agarwal, it’s one of the worst foods for your health. High in sodium and often fried, papad can raise blood pressure levels and put extra strain on your heart.

Bhujia

That crunchy bhujia packet may seem like the perfect tea-time snack, but it’s loaded with oil, refined flour, and salt. Regular consumption not only promotes weight gain and cholesterol imbalance but also increases the risk of diabetes due to high glycaemic content.

Xenotransplantation—the transfer of organs between species—has seen successful initial heart and kidney operations. Another avenue involves growing human organs from stem cells. UK scientists have rebuilt a thymus using stem cells and bioengineered scaffolds, and Great Ormond Street Hospital has developed intestinal grafts for children. These advances focus on treating disease rather than extreme lifespan extension.

Experimental Anti-Aging Approaches

Tech entrepreneur Bryan Johnson is investing millions to reverse biological aging, including plasma infusions from his teenage son, though results were negligible. Experimental approaches like plasma replacement are being studied, but experts caution their impact on lifespan is uncertain. Professor Neil Mabbott suggests the realistic upper limit of human life may be around 125 years due to age-related frailty, immune decline, and surgical risks.

Focus on Healthy Aging

While organ transplants and new therapies improve quality of life and longevity, living to 150 remains highly unlikely. Experts emphasize prioritizing healthy years rather than extreme lifespan, as extended life with frailty and repeated surgeries is unlikely to be fulfilling.

Jalebi

Jalebi is pure indulgence, deep-fried and drenched in sugar syrup. The high sugar and trans-fat content make it a direct culprit for obesity, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes. Eating it often can also contribute to fatty liver disease.

Supari may be a common chew after meals, but it’s far from safe. Nutritionists warn that betel nut has carcinogenic properties and is strongly linked to oral cancer and gum diseases.

Samosa

Golden, crispy samosas are hard to resist, but their refined flour crust and deep-frying make them a dangerous choice for the heart. Loaded with starch and unhealthy fats, samosas increase the risk of obesity, digestive issues, and cardiovascular disease if consumed frequently.

Five everyday Indian foods that we should think twice before adding to our diet. Her take was clear: these snacks may taste good, but their long-term impact on health is far from sweet. Tharoor Cautions on Trump’s India Tone

Welcoming this "new tone" with a spirit of caution, Mr Tharoor stated one could not forgive the hurt and offence caused by Trump so quickly, keeping in mind the consequences Indians faced.

Thiruvananthapuram – Congress

MP Shashi Tharoor urged caution in responding to US President Donald Trump’s recent positive remarks on India-US relations. While welcoming the “new tone,” he stressed that the hurt caused by Trump’s 50% tariffs and earlier insults could not be forgotten and required careful diplomatic repair. Tharoor highlighted that the tariffs had real consequences for Indians and criticized US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick’s comments on IndiaRussia trade. He said India acted with maturity, noting that trade with Russia, including oil purchases, had previously been encouraged by past US administrations.

Tharoor emphasized that India, as a sovereign nation, has the right to make its own decisions and should not be singled out for criticism, pointing out that other countries trade more extensively with Russia. Meanwhile, PM Modi warmly reciprocated Trump’s positive remarks, reaffirming the Comprehensive and Global Strategic Partnership between the two nations

Zelensky Backs

Trump’s India Oil Tariff

Kyiv – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has praised US President Donald Trump’s tariffs on countries trading with Russia, including India, calling the move a “right idea”. He described Moscow’s energy exports as Putin’s weapon against Ukraine and urged global partners to stop buying Russian oil and gas. Trump recently doubled tariffs on Indian goods, including 25% additional duties on Russian crude oil imports, which India called unfair and unjustified. Zelensky also criticized European countries continuing energy trade with Moscow, emphasizing that pressure on Russia is necessary to halt the conflict.

VP Race Numbers: Who’s Leading

New Delhi – The BJP-led NDA is poised to win Tuesday’s vice presidential election, though the margin may be narrower than in 2022. The election is decided by all MPs via secret ballot, with cross-voting common. The NDA’s candidate, Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan, has 425 MPs on paper, with backing from YSR Congress and potential support from other parties, giving him an expected 436–458 votes,

comfortably above the majority mark of 391. The Congress-led opposition has fielded retired Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy, holding about 324 votes. Even with cross-votes from smaller parties and independents, the opposition is likely to fall short by at least 70 votes.

The election follows a preferential voting system, where candidates must secure a simple majority, with votes reallocated if no one achieves it initially.

Indian Lobbyist Meets Trump Amid Tariff Dispute

Washington – Amid tensions over Trump’s 50% tariffs on Indian goods, Indian lobbyist Jason Miller recently met President Donald Trump and officials from his administration. Miller, hired by the Indian Embassy for $1.8 million a year, is tasked with providing strategic counsel, government relations, and diplomatic support to help India navigate its strained ties with the US. Miller posted about the meeting on X, but did not specify its purpose. The engagement comes as India called the US tariffs “unfair, unjustified, and

worth around Rs 1.1 lakh from Target, spending over seven hours in the store. Police bodycam footage showed her apologizing and offering to pay, claiming she was not from the US.

Ex-Diplomat: Trump Changed Stance on India

New Delhi – Former diplomat KP Fabian said US President Donald Trump is beginning to realize his aggressive trade tactics, including threats of additional tariffs on India’s Russian oil imports, did not work. Fabian stressed that while India welcomes friendly ties, it cannot be coerced.

Trump recently called India-US relations a “very special relationship” and affirmed his friendship with PM Modi, who reciprocated, highlighting the Comprehensive and Global Strategic Partnership between the two nations.

Salman badtameez hai, ganda insaan hai (Salman is ill-mannered, he is a bad person). He is from a film family which has been in the industry for 50 years. He continues the process. on Gen Z connect

Ananya Panday recently spoke about the response to her character Ahana in Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, the 2023 Hindi coming-of-age drama directed by Arjun Varain Singh. The film which explored the lives of contemporary youth navigating friendships, relationships, and self-discovery, has been noted for its depiction of Gen Z experiences, moving away from stereotypical portrayals often seen in mainstream Hindi cinema.

Reflecting on the audience’s reaction, Ananya Panday opened up about the film in an interview with The Nod magazine, wherein she said, “I think the reason people connected to Kho Gaye Hum Kahan so much is because they were like, finally a Hindi movie that is showing us the way we actually are. I was so happy about that. Because honestly, the way Gen Z has been represented in movies, it’s not been us. It’s been like someone’s idea of us. The maximum messages I got after that film were about relatability, from girls and boys both. And I was like, shit, this is why I want to make movies. I want people to feel seen. Asha Bhosle at 92: “Will Sing Till My Last Breath”

Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle turned 92 on September 8, celebrating the milestone with quiet dignity and her trademark spirit. “I don’t think about age. I just want to keep singing till my last breath,” said the singer, whose voice has defined generations of Indian cinema.

Born in Satara in 1933, Asha Bhosle entered playback at the age of 16 with Chunaria (1949). Often compared with her sister Lata Mangeshkar, she carved her own identity by embracing a ‘modern’ style. Songs like “Inna Mina Dika” marked her early westernized experiments, while her collaborations with O.P. Nayyar and R.D. Burman gave her career a defining edge. From sizzling cabaret numbers to soulful ghazals in Umrao Jaan and Ijaazat, her versatility remains unmatched. Actors, musicians, and fans across generations continue to celebrate her. Kamal Haasan, calling himself her “greatest fan,” recalled

Krrish 4 Set to Release in 2027: Rakesh Roshan

emotional memories of Asha and her late husband R.D. Burman.

“What a singer! What a range! She can cover the entire scale without effort. I grew up listening to her voice,” he said. Bhosle’s journey has not been without struggle. Married young, she endured personal challenges, including separation and the responsibility of raising her children. Her turbulent yet rewarding creative partnerships with Nayyar and Burman shaped her music and personal life. She once remarked that the iconic song Chayan Se Humko reflected her own story of pain and perseverance. Beyond music, Asha Bhosle is a passionate cook, mimic, and family-oriented person. Today, she also wishes to dedicate more time to classical singing, reaffirming her deep roots in Indian traditions. At 92, Asha Bhosle remains a living legend whose voice continues to enrich India’s cultural fabric.

This year has been significant for the Roshan family in more ways than one. 2025 began with them dominating the limelight, first for the release of The Roshans on Netflix, followed by the re-release of Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai (2000). It also means that Hrithik Roshan also completed 25 years as an actor and this feat was also celebrated in a grand fashion. 2 months later, it was announced that Hrithik would take the baton from his father, Rakesh Roshan, and direct Krrish 4. Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to Rakesh Roshan on his 76th birthday recently and during this conversation, he shared a major update about Krrish 4.

However, he expressed displeasure over what PM Modi is "doing" at the moment - referring to India's Russian oil imports. "I'll always be friends with PM Modi. He's a great Prime Minister. I'll always be friends, but I just don't like what he is doing at this particular moment. But India and the United States have a very special relationship. There is nothing to worry about. Canada Acknowledges Funding of Khalistani Terror Groups

A Canadian report has raised red flags over terror financing linked to Khalistani terrorists in the country. While it has been an open secret that Canada provides a safe haven to Khalistani terror groups like the Babbar Khalsa, International Sikh Youth Federation, and Sikhs for Justice, Ottawa has, for the first time, admitted that these groups have been operating from Canadian soil and receiving financial support. The admission is part of an assessment on money laundering and terrorist financing risks in Canada by its Finance department.

The report also pointed to financial links between Canada and other listed terror groups like Hamas and Hezbollah under the Politically Motivated Violent Extremism (PMVE) category.

"Several terrorist entities listed under the Criminal Code in Canada that fall under the PMVE category, such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Khalistani violent extremist groups Babbar Khalsa International and the International Sikh Youth Federation, have been observed by law enforcement and intelligence agencies to receive financial support originating from Canada," the report said.

Will Indian PM Modi Attend the UN General Assembly in New York?

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is set to travel to New York later this month to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). However, it remains unclear whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also participate in the highprofile event.

The Ministry of External Affairs has not confirmed who will officially lead the Indian delegation. Officials indicate that if Modi were to visit New York, a bilateral meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump would naturally be

expected. Given the current political climate, however, the government is seen as cautious about arranging such a high-stakes interaction. What is certain for now is that Jaishankar will represent India at the UNGA, ensuring New Delhi’s presence at the global forum.

Trump On Resetting Ties With India

Washington: US President Donald Trump called India-US ties a "very special relationship" and said he and PM Modi would "always be friends," though he voiced displeasure with Modi’s recent actions. Asked if he was ready to reset ties, Trump replied, "I always will." On trade, Trump said talks with India and other countries were "going great" but criticized the EU over its $3.5 billion fine on Google. He dismissed claims that the US had "lost" India and Russia to China but expressed disappointment over India’s oil imports from Moscow. India’s Ministry of External Affairs reaffirmed that the partnership with the US remains vital, rooted in shared values and strategic interests, and will continue to move forward on the basis of mutual respect.

Chicago Targeted as ICE Unveils ‘Operation Midway Blitz’

The operation’s start became clear over the weekend when agents detained three people on the Southwest Side. Community groups reported arrests of residents walking, waiting for buses, and even a flower vendor well-known in the neighborhood. “This is not about the worst of the worst,” said Ald. Jeylú Gutiérrez (14th). “It’s about terrorizing our communities.

CHICAGO, IL — Federal immigration raids have begun in Chicago and across Illinois, the Trump administration confirmed Monday.

The effort, called Operation Midway Blitz, is led by the Department of Homeland Security and targets undocumented immigrants in the region. For weeks, advocates anticipated stepped-up enforcement as federal agents stationed at the Great Lakes naval base prepared for a month-long operation. Homeland Security said the campaign is aimed at “criminal illegal aliens” who, it claimed, were shielded by Illinois’ sanctuary laws.

Chicago, Cook County and Illinois prohibit local police from cooperating with immigration enforcement, though officials stress they comply with valid criminal warrants. President Donald Trump has also floated deploying the National Guard, though no timeline has been announced.

But we will not be intimidated.”

ICE vans were also seen outside the Cook County Courthouse, where a spokesperson confirmed agents were filming with Fox News. Homeland Security released a list of individuals it described as “the worst of the worst,” accusing local policies of releasing them from custody.

Local leaders condemned the raids. Mayor Brandon Johnson said the city had no advance notice and warned of “militarized immigration enforcement

without due process.” Gov. JB Pritzker urged residents to “know your rights, film what you see, and refuse to accept this as normal.” Both emphasized Chicago’s Welcoming City ordinance, which bars police from aiding immigration raids. Community advocates urged residents to record and report ICE activity and reminded undocumented families of available resources. State Rep. Aaron Ortiz said: “Chicago will not be terrorized into fear. We stand united.”

The timing of the raids raised concern they could extend into September’s Mexican Independence Day celebrations.

Trump intensified threats on social media, posting an AI-generated image referencing Apocalypse Now with the caption: “Chicago about find out why it’s called the Department of WAR.”

Report Warns of Trafficking Dangers for Unaccompanied Migrant Children

WASHINGTON, DC-Every year, thousands of unaccompanied alien children arrive at the U.S. border seeking safety and opportunity. For many, the journey itself brings grave dangers. Once in the United States, these children—without parents or guardians—face high risks of exploitation, abuse, and trafficking. Under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), an unaccompanied alien child is defined as under 18, without lawful immigration status, and lacking a parent or legal guardian in the U.S. available to provide care. Their journey often exposes them to traffickers and smugglers, turning an escape from danger into a new cycle of exploitation.

Celebrating Diversity Through Drama: Aabaha Art and Theater Festival 2025

SUGAR HILL, GA- The Eagle Theatre in Sugar Hill became a vibrant hub of culture and storytelling as Aabaha presented the much-anticipated Aabaha Art and Theater Festival (AATF) 2025. For three days, theater groups from Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, and New Jersey shared the stage, presenting performances in Hindi, Bengali, and English. Rooted in Aabaha’s mission of “showcasing cultural diversity beyond borders,” the festival highlighted multilingual performances, art exhibitions, and community dialogue.

“This festival is more than a showcase,” noted Kallol Nandi, Founder of Aabaha Inc. “It is a dialogue between traditions, a meeting ground for generations, and a celebration of immigrant voices on American soil.” The inauguration welcomed Consul Nishi Arora (Indian Consulate, Atlanta) and Mayor Brandon Hembree of Sugar Hill, who praised the festival’s role in strengthening cultural bonds.

Festival Highlights

The curated schedule featured powerful performances:

• Friday Day 1: Inauguration, Jhukam Jari Hai (Atlanta) and Sangati-Hamrahi (Atlanta).

“This festival is more than a showcase,” noted Kallol Nandi, Founder of Aabaha Inc. “It is a dialogue between traditions, a meeting ground for generations, and a celebration of immigrant voices on American soil.”

Saturday, Day 2: Shikhandi (ECTA, NJ), Meghe Dhaka Tara (Aabaha, Atlanta), and At First Glance (ENAD, Boston), along with the Aabaha Samman Award Ceremony.

• Sunday, Day 3: A panel on immigrant theater followed by The Rat Race (Chicago Natyogoshthi), Across the Bridge (DFW Play, Dallas), and A Modern Story (Aabaha, Atlanta). Each play included interactive Q&A sessions.

The prestigious Aabaha Samman Award 2025 honored Dr. Sudipta Bhawmik for his contributions to Indian American theater. He reflected on the “outstanding quality” of performances and expressed gratitude for the recognition and hospitality.

A standout moment was Meghe Dhaka Tara (The

Cloud-Capped Star), directed by Kallol Nandi. This poignant Bengali drama, with English subtitles, explored sacrifice and resilience in post-Partition Bengal, leaving audiences deeply moved.

Beyond Theater

The festival also featured a community art exhibition showcasing local talent, a poster tribute to theater legends Badal Sarkar, Tripti Mitra, and Mohan Rakesh, and the launch of Kancha Kobitar Boi, a poetry collection by Ankan Basu. These elements enriched the festival’s cultural depth.

Audience Reflections

Testimonials praised the diversity, staging, and accessibility of performances. Attendees highlighted the value of English subtitles, professional lighting, and the warm hospitality. For many, it was not only entertainment but also a celebration of heritage and identity.

As curtains closed, AATF 2025 left behind more than memories of stellar theater—it sparked conversations on immigrant voices in American culture. With ambitious plans for 2026, Aabaha continues to set a standard for multicultural arts festivals nationwide.

Stricter Immigration Rule Announced for Green Card Process

WASHINGTON, DC-U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced a new rule granting certain officers law enforcement authority. Under this rule, some USCIS officers will now be designated as federal special agents, empowered to investigate immigration violations, make arrests, and present cases for prosecution. Traditionally, USCIS processed applications while Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) handled enforcement. This change revives aspects of the pre-2003 Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) model, when one agency carried out both functions.

Importantly, the rule does not alter eligibility requirements for green cards or most family immigration processes.

“The law itself hasn’t changed,” said Deanna Benjamin, an immigration attorney with Boundless. “Immediate relatives applying for a green card through adjustment of status remain eligible, even if they’ve overstayed a visa. This is a shift in how USCIS defines its authority, not in the rules families must meet.”

The policy primarily affects Fraud Detection and National Security (FDNS) officers, who already conduct fraud investigations and site visits. Standard adjudicators reviewing green card, citizenship, or naturalization applications are not expected to take on enforcement duties. Arrests at USCIS interviews have occurred in limited cases—generally when applicants have criminal records, prior deportation orders, or other serious issues.

For most applicants, the process remains unchanged. Family-based green card cases without red flags

continue to be approved daily. The rule does not expand who can be deported; it only broadens which USCIS officers can take enforcement action. Applicants without significant issues should still attend scheduled interviews, bringing complete documentation and addressing any past immigration history upfront.

“For the vast majority of applicants without criminal records or prior deportation orders, cases are still being approved,” Benjamin emphasized. “Families should focus on submitting strong, accurate applications rather than being alarmed by headlines.”

Navneet Kaur’s Trucking Firm Investigated

FORT PIERCE, FL – Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has issued civil and criminal subpoenas to Navneet Kaur, CEO of White Hawk Carriers, as part of the investigation into a fatal crash that killed three people.

The subpoenas target Kaur and her company to uncover how Harjinder Singh, the 28-year-old truck driver charged in the crash, was hired and licensed. The action follows the August 12 incident on the Florida Turnpike, where Singh made an illegal U-turn, causing his trailer to jackknife into a minivan.

Singh, who entered the U.S. illegally in 2018, faces three counts of vehicular homicide—charges that could bring up to 45 years in prison. Authorities have raised questions about how he obtained commercial driver’s licenses from California and Washington despite reportedly having limited English proficiency.

Federal Immigration Raid at Hyundai Battery Plant in Georgia

BRYAN COUNTY, GA- Federal agents arrested about 450 people in a sweeping raid at the HL-GA Battery Company construction site in Bryan County, Georgia, one of the Trump administration’s largest immigration crackdowns to date. The facility, a joint venture between LG Energy Solution and Hyundai Motor Group, is being built alongside Hyundai’s $7.6 billion Metaplant America near Savannah. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and Georgia State Patrol took part. Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed the raid stemmed from a judicial search warrant tied to an ongoing investigation into alleged unlawful employment practices and other federal crimes. Steven Schrank, HSI’s Atlanta special agent in charge, told reporters that undocumented workers were among those arrested, while U.S. citizens and

permanent residents encountered were released. He emphasized there were no injuries or use of force during the

operation. A helicopter circled overhead as troopers blocked exits and escorted detainees in zip ties from the site.

Hyundai spokesperson Bianca Johnson said production at the nearby metaplant was unaffected. “We are cooperating with law enforcement and are committed to abiding by all labor and immigration regulations,” she said. HL-GA Battery Company spokesperson Mary Beth Kennedy added that construction has been temporarily paused to assist investigators.

The plant, projected to create 8,500 jobs by 2030, has been promoted as a major economic engine for the region. However, the raid highlights ongoing scrutiny of workplace immigration compliance.

This action is among the largest raids under President Donald Trump’s second term, echoing similar operations at farms, restaurants, and factories nationwide. In 2019, during his first term, 680 workers were arrested in Mississippi poultry plants in what was then the largest single-state immigration sweep in a decade.

Tow Truck Driver Charged Over ICE Vehicle

LOS ANGELES, CA – A tow truck driver, Bobby Nunez, faces federal charges after towing an ICE vehicle during an active operation on August 15. If convicted, he could serve up to 10 years in prison.

According to the federal complaint, Nunez laughed and filmed while hooking and removing the vehicle as agents tried to arrest an undocumented immigrant. He also allegedly struck an officer with the suspect’s car door. TikTok videos played a key role in Homeland Security tracking him down, and the complaint was approved by U.S. Magistrate Judge Stephanie Christensen.Acting U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli posted that Nunez “can laugh behind bars while facing justice.” The arrest comes amid escalating tensions in Los Angeles, where assaults on ICE agents have surged 1,000 percent compared to last year, prompting federal authorities to insist on continued enforcement.

The program commenced with the lighting of a traditional lamp by Consul General Somnath Ghosh, accompanied by Ward 10 Alderwoman Ms. Shweta

Baid and Mr. Gautam Bhatia, Naperville Township Trustee

While acknowledging that Kala Utsav alone is not enough, he noted that it aims to spotlight emerging youth and artists and that the Consulate plans to host more events and collaborate with various organizations to strengthen Indian-American cultural ties. DOJ Sues Illinois Over Undocumented Student Aid

CHICAGO, IL- The United States has filed a lawsuit challenging Illinois laws that provide in-state tuition and scholarships to illegal aliens, alleging the statutes unlawfully discriminate against U.S. citizens and conflict with federal law. On Tuesday, Sept. 2, the Department of Justice lodged its complaint in the Southern District of Illinois against the State of Illinois, Governor J.B. Pritzker, Attorney General Kwame Raoul, and the boards of trustees of Illinois state universities. The complaint seeks to block enforcement of the laws and require compliance with federal standards.

The challenged Illinois provisions mandate that state colleges and universities offer in-state tuition rates to all aliens residing in Illinois, regardless of their legal status. Federal law, however, prohibits higher education institutions from extending benefits to illegal aliens that are not equally available to U.S. citizens. The Justice Department argues these state measures directly conflict with federal authority and violate the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution. “Under federal law, schools cannot provide benefits to illegal aliens that they do not provide to U.S. citizens,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “The Department of Justice has already filed multiple suits to prevent U.S. students from being treated as second-class citizens. Illinois now joins the list of states where we are fighting to uphold federal law.”

U.S. Attorney Steven D. Weinhoeft for the Southern District of Illinois criticized the state’s policies, stating, “Illinois seems determined to lead a race to the bottom as the nation’s most prominent sanctuary state. By mandating in-state tuition, scholarships, and aid to illegal aliens, Illinois not only violates federal law but incentivizes illegal immigration at taxpayer expense. Illinois citizens deserve better.”

The lawsuit aligns with two executive orders issued by President Trump. The first, “Ending Taxpayer Subsidization of Open Borders,” directs agencies to ensure taxpayer-funded benefits are not extended to unqualified aliens. The second, “Protecting American Communities From Criminal Aliens,” instructs officials to block enforcement of state laws that give preferential treatment to aliens over U.S. citizens, specifically citing policies such as granting in-state tuition to illegal aliens but not to out-of-state American students. Through this action, the federal government seeks to reaffirm its authority and ensure equitable treatment of U.S. citizens in higher education benefits.

FBI Launches Nationwide Operations to Combat Violent Crime

“When I became FBI Director, I promised the American people we would crush violent crime,” said FBI Director Kash Patel.

WASHINGTON, DC -The FBI announced a series of coordinated operations aimed at dismantling violent crime networks and arresting thousands of suspects across the country. Over the next six weeks, the Bureau will highlight specific enforcement actions designed to curb gang activity, disrupt drug trafficking, apprehend child sexual predators, and protect Tribal communities.

“When I became FBI Director, I promised the American people we would crush violent crime,” said FBI Director Kash Patel. “Your FBI will identify the criminals who paralyze communities with fear and bring them to justice.”

Working in close partnership with local, state, and federal agencies, the FBI is targeting the most violent offenders and criminal organizations that pose the greatest threats to public safety. September and October enforcement efforts will include:

• A nationwide surge to arrest individuals involved in the sexual exploitation of children and the production of child sexual abuse materials.

• A multi-agency task force response to transnational criminal organizations engaged in drug trafficking, money laundering, weapons trafficking, human trafficking, alien smuggling, homicide, extortion, kidnapping, and other federal crimes.

• The conclusion of a monthslong, proactive operation involving all 55 FBI field offices, targeting those accused of committing violent crimes.

• The largest national deployment of FBI resources to date in Indian Country, addressing violent crime and cases of missing or murdered Indigenous people.

• The FBI urges the public to assist by submitting tips online at tips.fbi.gov or by calling 1-800-CALLFBI (225-5324). Additional information about violent crime investigations can be found at fbi. gov/violentcrime

FBI Philly: Back-to-School Cyber Safety Tips

PHILADELPHIA- With a new school year underway, FBI Philadelphia wants to remind students, parents, and educators of some important back-toschool cyber safety topics.

“From cyber scams to online predators, digital threats are real, evolving, and increasingly targeting young people,” said Wayne A. Jacobs, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Philadelphia Field Office. “Now more than ever, it’s critical for parents, educators, and students to have open, ongoing conversations about safe online behavior—and to report anything suspicious. The FBI remains deeply engaged with our school communities, providing resources and guidance to help students navigate the digital world safely and to enjoy a successful school year.” Internet-enabled crimes and cyber intrusions are becoming increasingly sophisticated and preventing them requires good cyber practices. Below are some tips you can follow to better protect yourself online:

• Create a strong and unique passphrase for every online account you hold. Reusing a passphrase across multiple accounts makes you

more vulnerable if one account is compromised.

• Use safe social media habits. Be skeptical of strange accounts and people you have never met in real life. Avoid posting personally identifiable information publicly on social media.

• Do not open any attachments unless you are expecting the file or document and have verified the sender’s email address.

• Carefully scrutinize all electronic requests for a payment or transfer of funds.

• If there is a situation happening online that makes you feel threatened or uncomfortable, talk to a parent or teacher right away.

• Be careful when connecting to a public Wi-Fi network and do not conduct any sensitive transactions, including purchases, when on a public network.

You can report crime or suspicious activity to the FBI by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI or visiting tips.fbi. gov. Cyber crimes can also be reported to the Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov.

HinduPACT & AHAD Demands Immediate Dismissal of Peter Navarro for Promoting Hindu Hate

WASHINGTON, DC- HinduPACT’s American Hindus Against Defamation (AHAD) today demanded that the President of the United States remove Peter Navarro from his role as Director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy. Navarro’s remarks—invoking caste stereotypes and mocking India’s Prime Minister in a sacred act of Hindu prayer—are deeply inappropriate, Hinduphobic, and dangerous. They undermine the dignity of over a billion Hindus and jeopardize the relationship between the world’s two largest democracies.

Caste Tropes Are Colonial Weapons, Not Policy Tools

Navarro’s claim that “Brahmins profit at the expense of the Indian people” is not serious policy analysis—it is a recycled colonial trope designed to vilify Hindus and fracture Indian society. Deploying caste rhetoric to pressure a democratic ally demeans the United States and cheapens its diplomacy.

“This is not foreign policy. It’s weaponized Hinduphobia,” said Ajay Shah, Executive Chair of HinduPACT.

“Dividing Hindus through colonial scripts doesn’t build relationships—it destroys them. People like Navarro have no place in American political life.”

Mocking Hindu Prayer Is Religious Hostility

Hindus Urge UMD to Establish Dedicated Prayer Room

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Hindus are calling on the University of Maryland (UMD) to create a permanent prayer and meditation space for Hindu students. UMD already provides prayer facilities for other faiths, but advocates say Hindus lack a dedicated area for rituals, reflection, festivals, and spiritual practices.

Rajan Zed, President of the Universal Society of Hinduism, urged UMD President Darryll J. Pines to ensure fairness, highlighting the university’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. He suggested the room include a shrine with murtis of deities such as Shiva, Vishnu, Rama, Krishna, Durga, Ganesha, Saraswati, Hanuman, and Lakshmi, along with traditional items like a ghanta, dholak, and Shivalinga. Zed emphasized that Hinduism, the world’s third-largest religion, deserves equal respect in educational institutions. With over 41,000 students enrolled, UMD’s Hindu population would benefit from a dedicated space supporting spiritual growth, well-being, and cultural recognition.

Navarro’s claim that “Brahmins profit at the expense of the Indian people” is not serious policy analysis—it is a recycled colonial trope designed to vilify Hindus and fracture Indian society.

Navarro also circulated an image of India’s Prime Minister meditating in saffron robes—a sacred Hindu practice rooted in dharma—framing it as a target for ridicule while pressing an economic agenda.

“Saffron is sacred. Prayer is not propaganda. What exactly was Navarro trying to say by using that image?” asked Deepti Mahajan, President of

HinduPACT. “If the target was the Hindu faith, that’s religious hostility. If the target was India’s leadership, that’s diplomatic recklessness. Either way, it’s a serious violation.”

Hindus in America Bear the Fallout

Navarro’s rhetoric fuels caste slurs and attacks on Hindu symbols far beyond Washington. These ideas filter into classrooms, workplaces, and even acts of vandalism against temples.

“When someone like Navarro uses caste to shame India, it lands on Hindus here,” said Deepa Karthik, General Secretary of HinduPACT. “Children get bullied. Workers get profiled. We get treated like we owe the world an apology for our heritage.”

Kash Patel’s Girlfriend Files $5M Suit Over “Honeypot Spy” Claims

WASHINGTON, DC – Country singer Alexis Wilkins, longtime partner of former Trump adviser Kash Patel, has filed a $5 million defamation lawsuit against conservative podcaster Kyle Seraphin. Wilkins, 26, alleges that Seraphin damaged her reputation by falsely branding her a “honeypot” for Israeli intelligence. According to the complaint, Seraphin used his August 22 broadcast to claim that Wilkins was a “former Mossad agent” sent to manipulate Patel, 45, who has been floated as a potential future FBI director. Her attorneys argue the statements

Message to the White House: Fire Navarro

AHAD calls on the President to act immediately. Navarro’s words divide communities, demean a faith, and endanger a vital partnership.

Tolerating Hinduphobia in U.S. policy circles tells over five million Hindus in America—and more than a billion in India—that their identity is expendable. This cannot be allowed to stand.

President Meets India Lobbyist as Tariff Standoff Escalates

were “malicious lies” intended to boost Seraphin’s audience and income, saying he “fabricated the story for selfenriching clickbait,” CNBC reported. Seraphin, who describes himself as a “recovering FBI agent,” also mocked the couple’s relationship during the broadcast, suggesting Wilkins was only attracted to Patel because he fit her preference for “a cross-eyed kind of thickish built, super cool bro who’s almost 50 years old and Indian in America.” Wilkins’ legal team called the spy allegations “vile and ridiculous,” emphasizing that she is “an Americanborn, conservative Christian.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – India has hired Jason Miller, a close ally of Donald Trump, as its lobbyist in Washington under a $1.8 million annual contract. Miller, who leads SHW Partners, is tasked with advising India on U.S. policy, Congress, think tanks, state governments, and other stakeholders. This week, Miller met with Trump and posted a photo on X, writing: “Fantastic week in Washington with so many friends being in town, topped off of course, by having the opportunity to stop in and see our President in-action!”

It is unclear whether India-related issues were discussed, but the meeting comes as U.S.-India relations enter a cautious thaw. Miller is a controversial figure, having previously lost out on White House roles due to credible accusations of extramarital affairs and soliciting prostitutes.

Still, the move reflects India’s strategy of hiring Washington insiders with direct ties to powerful U.S. figures—potentially enhancing its influence in American policymaking circles.

Bay Area Unites in Devotion: Faith Meets Festivity at the Largest Ganesh Festival

SAN RAMON, CA — The chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya” echoed through Bishop Ranch City Center on August 31 as more than 20,000 people gathered for the Bay Area’s largest Ganesh Festival, transforming San Ramon into a hub of devotion and culture.

Hosted by Namaste Bay Area and Bolly 92.3FM, the inaugural festival was unlike anything the region had seen before. From morning to night, the plaza brimmed with color, music, and movement. Despite temperatures soaring past 100 degrees, the energy never wavered as families, volunteers, and performers celebrated Lord Ganesha with tradition and community spirit.

The day began with rituals and aartis, followed by a grand procession featuring more than 100 dhol-tasha drummers, devotional dancers, and a crowd stretching across the plaza. By evening, the

farewell visarjan carried the same intensity, with percussionists and singers leading thousands in song and prayer.

Cultural programming continued throughout the day, with more than 200 artists presenting classical dance, devotional music, and dramatic performances that highlighted India’s rich heritage. Families joined in hourly aartis and bhajans, while others explored a bustling bazaar of more than 100 vendors offering Indian food, jewelry, clothing, and community services.

The festival also emphasized sustainability, with clay idols and eco-conscious décor reinforcing the importance of mindful worship. Organizers said their goal was not only to celebrate devotion but also to pass on cultural values to future generations.

The event’s scale drew elected officials and community

leaders from across the Bay Area, including Alameda County Supervisor David Haubert, San Ramon Mayor Mark Armstrong, Dublin Mayor Sherry Hu, Milpitas Mayor Carmen Montano, San Ramon Vice Mayor Sridhar Verose, and SRVUSD Board Member Susanna Ordway. Their presence underscored the festival’s role as more than a religious occasion—a gathering that reflects the Bay Area’s diversity and unity.

Organizers credited the City of San Ramon, Bishop Ranch, civic authorities, and hundreds of volunteers for ensuring the event was both safe and seamless. As the drums faded and the idols were immersed, what remained was the sense that this Ganesh Festival had become not just a religious milestone, but one of the Bay Area’s largest multicultural celebrations.

Military Legacy Veteran Bajun Mavalwalla Among Arrests at Anti-ICE Demonstration

SPOKANE, WA – Bajun Mavalwalla II, a 35-year-old U.S. Army veteran, was arrested in Spokane, Washington, in July for his alleged role in an antiICE protest that occurred on June 11. Federal prosecutors charged him with “conspiracy to impede or injure officers” after authorities reported that the protest resulted in damage to a government van. He was not detained at the scene but arrested more than a month later.

Mavalwalla II, a former sergeant who served in Afghanistan and survived a roadside bomb, appeared stunned as federal agents arrested him at 6 a.m. while he was preparing to move into a new home. Video filmed by his father shows him smiling in disbelief as he was handcuffed.

Activist groups have condemned the arrest. The 50501 Movement Washington State issued a statement alleging that the case represents retaliation against dissent, noting that

USCIS Confirms EB-2 Visa Category Closed Until Next Fiscal Year

WASHINGTON, DC- The U.S. Department of State has confirmed that the annual limit for EB-2 green cards has been reached for Fiscal Year 2025. No additional EB-2 immigrant visas will be issued until the start of the new fiscal year on October 1, 2025. Until then, the EB-2 category is officially “unavailable.” This development affects both U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and U.S. consulates. Neither can approve EB-2 adjustment of status applications or issue immigrant visas during this period. However, applicants with pending or scheduled interviews should still attend, though final decisions may be placed on hold until visa numbers become available again. Filing still possible in September: No approvals until October: Even if you file now, approvals cannot be issued until the FY 2026 cap is released on October 1, 2025. At that point, visa numbers reset and processing can resume, depending on the allocation for the new year.

Key takeaways:

• EB-2 is unavailable for the rest of FY 2025.

• Consulates and USCIS cannot approve cases until October 1.

• Filing now can still provide work and travel benefits.

• The annual reset will reopen EB-2 visa numbers on October 1, 2025.

Pentagon to Deploy 600 Military Lawyers as Immigration Judges

WASHINGTON, DC- The Defense Department is weighing a plan to assign up to 600 military attorneys to serve as temporary immigration judges, according to a defense official. The request came from the Justice Department, which is seeking additional help to reduce a backlog of more than 3.4 million immigration cases.

Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed that the department is reviewing qualified Judge Advocates and civilian attorneys for temporary details. If approved, they would preside over immigration hearings — a role traditionally limited to Justice Department employees. The Associated Press first reported the initiative. Immigration courts, overseen by the Justice Department rather than the federal judiciary, are facing mounting pressure. Earlier this year, the Trump administration dismissed more than two dozen immigration judges, further straining the system. To expand eligibility, the administration loosened requirements in August, allowing a broader pool of government lawyers to serve as temporary judges. Previously, only Justice Department lawyers with at least a decade of immigration experience or former immigration judges could qualify. The Judge Advocate General Corps primarily handles military law — advising commanders and assisting service

members and their families. Defense attorneys chosen for the new role would need crash training in immigration law, procedures, and policies before presiding over cases. The Justice Department anticipates a six-week training program followed by a written exam.

The plan has drawn sharp criticism.

The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) warned that substituting military attorneys for immigration judges could jeopardize due process. “While DoD attorneys may be well suited to handle military matters, immigration law is entirely different and exceptionally complex,” the group said. “It makes as much sense as having a cardiologist do a hip replacement.” AILA urged Congress to intervene, calling the move reckless and a threat to judicial independence.

In Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis has gone further, proposing that National Guard JAG officers serve as immigration judges. Legal experts note this would be unprecedented, since such officers typically remain under state control during domestic missions. Under his plan, they would shift to federal command, enabling appointment by the U.S. attorney general.

If implemented, the Defense Department would provide the personnel, while the Justice Department would fund and oversee the program.
