President Donald Trump has signed a spending bill to reopen the government and end the longest shutdown in US history.
He signed the short-term bill into law just hours after the House of Representatives voted 222-209 to approve it on Wednesday night, and two days after the Senate narrowly approved the same bill.
Speaking in the Oval Office, Trump said the government would now "resume normal operations" after "people were hurt so badly" from the 43-day shutdown.
Many government services have been suspended since October, and around 1.4 million federal employees have been on unpaid leave or working without pay. Food aid has also been left in limbo and air travel has been disrupted nationwide. Government services are expected to reopen in the coming days, while disruptions to air travel will likely ease ahead of the looming Thanksgiving holiday.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had reduced air traffic because of staff shortages owing to the shutdown. That had direct impacts on members of Congress attempting to reach the nation’s capital on Wednesday for the House vote.
Derrick Van Orden, a Wisconsin Republican, rode his motorcycle nearly 1,000 miles (1,609km) across the country to cast his vote in the House before it was sent to the president's desk.
The bill only provides funding to keep the government open until 30 January, when lawmakers will once again need to find a way to fund the government.

Washington: US President Donald Trump’s new H-1B visa approach aims to bring skilled foreign workers to America temporarily — not as long-term employees, but as trainers for American workers, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in an interview with Fox News.
Bessent described the policy as a “knowledge transfer” effort designed to rebuild US manufacturing and high-tech industries after decades of outsourcing. “We want to bring the semiconductor industry back to the US. There will be big facilities in Arizona,” he noted, adding that overseas experts would stay for three to seven years to train Americans before returning home. The shift represents Trump’s attempt to balance his tough immigration stance with the need for skilled talent in key sectors like

manufacturing and technology. “For 20–30 years, we haven’t built ships or semiconductors here. Overseas partners coming in, teaching American workers –
that’s a home run,” Bessent said, stressing that the goal was self-reliance, not dependence on foreign labor. Responding to critics who fear Americans
Trump’s Immigration Flip: Foreign Students Now ‘Good for America’
Trump's latest remarks were in clear contrast with his second administration's immigration policies, which have particularly targeted international students.
In a major U-turn on his immigration agenda, US President Donald Trump has advocated for allowing foreign students to study in American universities. The American leader said foreign students are "good" for business practice and keep the country's higher education system financially strong.
Speaking to Fox News, Trump pushed back on the MAGA (Make America Great Again) agenda and argued that a sharp reduction in students from China

After 43 days, the longest US government shutdown in history is coming to an end. Federal workers will start receiving pay again. National Parks will reopen. Government services that had been curtailed or suspended entirely will resume. Air travel, which had become a nightmare for many Americans, will return to being merely frustrating. After the dust settles and the ink from President Donald Trump's signature on the funding bill dries, what has this record-setting shutdown accomplished? And what has it cost?

and other countries could put half the US colleges out of business.
“You don't want to cut half of the people, half of the students from all over the
world that are coming into our country — destroy our entire university and college system — I don't want to do that,” Trump told Fox News host Laura Ingraham.

In an unprecedented diplomatic turn, US President Donald Trump hosted Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa at the White House on Monday, a meeting that would have once seemed unimaginable. Al-Sharaa, a former Al-Qaeda commander once branded a terrorist by Washington and placed under a $10
million US bounty, stood alongside Trump in what marked the first official visit by a Syrian leader to the White House since Syria's independence from France in 1946. The visit comes as the US extended its pause on sanctions on Syria for another 180 days.
A video from the encounter, now circulating widely online, captures a light-hearted exchange between the two leaders. Trump is seen presenting Al-Sharaa with a bottle of perfume, spraying it on him and saying, "It's the best fragrance... And the other one is for your wife." Turning playful, he then asks, "How many wives?"
Team Trump's new approach to the H-1B visa programme, Bessent explained, reflects the Republican president's broader push to repatriate critical industries and reduce reliance on imports.
may lose jobs to foreign workers, Bessent argued, “An American can’t have that job – not yet,” implying the move is a stepping stone toward a stronger domestic workforce.
He also confirmed that the administration is discussing a possible $2,000 tariff rebate for families earning under $100,000, part of what he called Trump’s “Parallel Prosperity” vision — where both Wall Street and Main Street prosper together under stable trade and financial policies.

US President Donald Trump appears to have softened his stance on his administration's aggressive immigration reforms, saying America needs to bring in foreign talent for certain fields. The Republican leader acknowledged that long-term unemployed Americans cannot be tasked with complex roles in sensitive sectors like defence without extensive training, and the US needs skilled foreign nationals to fill such roles. Trump was speaking to Fox News' Laura Ingraham when he was asked if his administration planned to deprioritise H-1B visas. He replied, "You do have to bring in talent." When the host countered, "We have plenty of talent," Trump said, "No, you don't."
"You don't have certain talents... And people have to learn, you can't take people off an unemployment line and say, I'm going to put you into a factory. We're going to make missiles," he said. Indian workers received over 70 per cent of the total approved H-1B visas in 2024, primarily due to a huge backlog in approvals and a high number of skilled immigrants from India.

Trump vows $1 billion lawsuit over BBC’s edited January 6 speech
US President Donald Trump has said he feels an “obligation” to sue the BBC, accusing the broadcaster of misleading viewers by editing a section of his 6 January 2021 speech in a Panorama documentary. Speaking to Fox News, Trump claimed his address was “butchered” and “defrauded” the public. It marks his first public comment since his lawyers threatened to sue the BBC for $1 billion (£759 million) unless it issues an apology, retraction, and compensation. A BBC spokesperson said: “We are reviewing the letter and will respond directly in due course.” BBC chair Samir Shah has already apologised for an “error of judgement” over the edit. Appearing on The Ingraham Angle, Trump said he would proceed with the lawsuit, stating, “Well, I guess I have to… they defrauded the public, and they’ve admitted it.” He insisted the speech had been “beautiful” and “calming” but was deliberately made to sound “radical.”
Australia's spy chief says hackers linked to the Chinese government and military are targeting the country's critical infrastructure, warning the country was increasingly at risk of "high-impact sabotage".
Mike Burgess, head of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (Asio), said "unprecedented levels of espionage" meant a growing threat of "cyber-enabled sabotage" in the next five years.
He singled out "one nation stateno prizes for guessing which one - conducting multiple attempts to scan and penetrate critical infrastructure in

He has been detained in Thailand since 2022, after the Thai police arrested him acting on a Chinese request to Interpol. China accuses She Zhijiang of running illegal online gambling rings, and this week a Thai court upheld the decision to extradite him. "Both groups were involved in the theft of sensitive information, but the real danger was the threat of sabotagedisruption to critical infrastructure."
He said Salt Typhoon's intent was espionage, breaking into telecommunication networks in the US.

The prosecutor in Turkey's biggest city has accused popular mayor Ekrem Imamoglu of 142 corruption offences that command jail terms ranging from 828 to 2,352 years.
Imamoglu, considered the main political rival to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has been in pre-trial custody since March on suspicion of corruption.
The Istanbul mayor and his opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) deny any wrongdoing and accuse the president and his allies of launching a crackdown in response to Erdogan's decline in popularity.

US President Donald Trump’s envoy and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, returned to Israel on Monday as mediators confronted a new obstacle in advancing the fragile Gaza ceasefire talks. Key issues remain unresolved, including Hamas’s disarmament, Gaza’s reconstruction and governance, and the deployment of an international security force. A fresh challenge has emerged in Rafah, where around 200 Hamas fighters are reportedly trapped in tunnels under Israeli-controlled territory. US envoy Steve Witkoff suggested an amnesty for those who surrender, a proposal discussed by Kushner and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem. However, Hamas has refused to surrender, demanding safe passage—an offer Israel has rejected. An Israeli spokeswoman said Netanyahu and Kushner reviewed the first phase of the plan to secure remaining hostages and discussed phase two, which focuses on Gaza’s demilitarisation and excluding Hamas from its future governance.

London:
However, the city's chief prosecutor has targeted not just Imamoglu but 401 others, with allegations of running a criminal corruption network with the mayor as its "founder and leader".
After an eight-month inquiry, prosecutor Akin Gürlek said the suspects, of whom 105 were in detention, had formed an enormous criminal organisation that had been engaged in taking and receiving bribes as well as money laundering.
The cost in losses to the Turkish state amounted to 160bn lira (£2,9bn; $3.8bn), he said.
Imamoglu, who is the secular CHP's candidate for presidential elections in 2028, has been cited on 12 counts of bribery, seven counts of money laundering from criminal proceeds and a further seven counts of fraud against public institutions and organisations.
Anadolu news agency estimated the charges would carry a prison sentence of 2,430 years.
A Chinese woman who was found with 5 billion pounds ($6.6 billion) in Bitcoin after defrauding more than 128,000 people in China in a Ponzi scheme was sentenced by a UK court on Tuesday to over 11 years in prison. Police said the investigation into Zhimin Qian, 47, led to officers recovering devices holding 61,000 Bitcoin in the largest cryptocurrency seizure in the UK.
Qian, dubbed “cryptoqueen” by British media, was arrested in April 2024 after spending years evading the authorities and living an “extravagant” lifestyle in Europe, staying in luxury hotels across the continent and buying fine jewelry and watches, prosecutors said. Police said she ran a pyramid scheme that lured more than 128,000 people to invest in her business between 2014 and 2017, including many who invested their life savings and pensions. Authorities said she stored the illegally obtained funds in Bitcoin assets.

New Delhi: Monday evening's explosion near the Red Fort, Delhi, killed nine people and injured 20 others. The explosion, which happened at 6.52 pm, was so intense that the severed arm of a person was found nearly 300 metres (1,000 feet) from the blast site.
A 12-second-long video shows the severed arm on the top of a shop at the Lajpat Rai Market, which is opposite the Red Fort Corridor. The arm, which was up to the forearm level, was seen lying on the shop's roof.
High-grade explosives were used in Monday's explosion, an official from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) earlier said. One of the explosive samples collected from the Delhi blast site is believed to be more powerful than ammonium nitrate.
More than 40 samples, including two cartridges, live ammunition, and explosives, were collected by the FSL team from the blast site.
The official said preliminary analysis showed that one of the explosive samples appears to be ammonium nitrate.
"The second explosive sample is believed to be more powerful than ammonium nitrate. Its exact composition will be confirmed after a detailed forensic examination," the official added.

A US jury in the first civil trial over a fatal Boeing 737 MAX crash determined Wednesday that the aircraft manufacturing giant owes $28.45 million to the family of a newly-wed Indian victim. The case involves the survivors of Shikha Garg of New Delhi, who died in the March 2019 Ethiopian Airlines crash, one of two fatal MAX crashes that together claimed 346 lives. After about two hours of deliberation, a jury in federal court in Chicago returned with an award that included $10 million for grief, $10 million for Garg's pain and suffering, and other compensation.
New Delhi: Investigators probing the blast near Delhi's iconic Red Fort have unearthed a chilling plan: the suspected terror module involving doctors allegedly linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad had planned blasts at six locations in the National Capital Region on December 6.
The date is significant: this was the day when the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya was demolished in 1992. The suspected terrorists arrested in connection with the blast have said the date was chosen because they wanted to "avenge the Babri Masjid demolition".

According to top intelligence sources, the members of the suspected terror module have said during interrogation that they had prepared a phase-wise plan to carry out serial blasts in the National Capital Region. Officials have

Rubio said India was doing a "very good job of carrying out an investigation, and I think when they have facts, they'll release those facts."
The United States has said that the car blast near the Red Fort in Delhi -- which claimed the lives of at least nine people -- was "clearly" a "terrorist attack".
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised New Delhi's professionalism in handling the probe into the blast and said the country's actions have been measured and cautious.
"The Indians need to be commended. They've been very measured, cautious and very professional in how they're

carrying out this investigation. That investigation continues. It clearly was a terrorist attack. It was a car loaded with highly explosive materials that
detonated and killed a lot of people," Rubio said while addressing the media, responding to a query on India declaring the Delhi blast a "terror incident".
“Nothing’s Different”: Internet Reacts to Indian’s ‘Sad Reality of USA’

Many Indians dream of moving to the US for better opportunities, but Indian-origin digital creator Sachin Sindhu recently highlighted the emotional cost of that dream. In a viral Instagram video, Sindhu shared how his 80-yearold neighbour, Shafar, who lived alone, died in isolation — his death going unnoticed for a whole day.
“I was probably the only one who knew him well,” Sindhu said, recalling how he used spare keys to enter Shafar’s home and found him lifeless. He immediately called 911, and authorities later confirmed the death.
Reflecting on the experience, Sindhu lamented the lack of close family bonds in America. “Parents don’t

our elders — that culture doesn’t exist here,” he said, offering to perform his neighbour’s funeral if no relatives come forward. The video struck a chord online.
While many praised Sindhu’s compassion, others noted that loneliness in the US often stems from circumstance, not choice. “In search of gold, we lose diamonds — our parents and values,” one user wrote, echoing the story’s emotional message. A user also noted that now Indian family system is witnessing a shift and said, "India is also following the same dude.

India’s start-up IPO rush shows no signs of cooling, with investors pouring money into new listings despite growing concerns about high valuations. This week, three major unicorns—Lenskart, Groww, and Pine Labs—hit or are about to hit the stock market, marking a milestone moment for the country’s booming start-up scene.
Lenskart, the eyewear company founded by Shark Tank India’s Peyush Bansal, launched an $821 million share offering that sold out within hours, even though its debut on Monday was volatile. Soon after, Groww—India’s largest retail brokerage backed by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella—drew investor bids 17 times higher than the number of shares available. Fintech giant Pine Labs is expected to list later this week. The IPO wave comes after a difficult “funding winter,” when venture capital

Dutch seizure of Chinese chip firm Nexperia exposes Europe’s supply chain vulnerabilities and fuels new front in US-China tech rivalry.
In a dramatic move that sent ripples through the global car industry, the Dutch government invoked a Cold War-era emergency law in late September to seize control of Chinese-owned chipmaker Nexperia, citing “serious governance shortcomings” and threats to national and economic security.
The decision triggered a diplomatic clash, with Beijing accusing the Netherlands of political interference and retaliating by freezing Nexperia chip exports to Europe and halting supplies of crucial materials needed for chipmaking in China. The disruption has exposed deep vulnerabilities in global semiconductor supply chains, particularly for the automotive sector that heavily depends on Nexperia’s “legacy” chips — vital components for car systems such as power steering, airbags, and locks. Around 80% of Nexperia’s output is processed in China, giving Beijing significant leverage over the flow of semiconductors. Analysts say the episode underscores how China can weaponise supply chains, much like it has with rare earth exports. The Dutch takeover also led to the suspension of Nexperia’s CEO, Zhang Xuezhen, amid concerns about
transferring intellectual property and assets to China. The firm’s parent company, Wingtech Technology, partially owned by the Chinese state and listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, is already on the US “entity list” of restricted firms.
Although The Hague denies acting under foreign pressure, the move aligns with broader Western efforts to curb Chinese control over critical technologies. Beijing has since partially lifted export curbs for “civilian use” chips but continues to demand that the Netherlands reverse the takeover.
The automotive industry now faces production uncertainty, with European manufacturers scrambling for alternative suppliers like Infineon and Texas Instruments. However, experts warn that reconfiguring chip supply chains is complex and costly. The Nexperia standoff comes amid a fragile oneyear US-China trade truce, raising fears of renewed tensions. The EU is now in talks with Beijing to restore semiconductor trade, but analysts caution that trust and stability in the global chip ecosystem remain precarious

Venture capital leader Shailendra Singh of PeakXV Partners attributed the IPO surge to stronger oversight and diversity in the market.
“Historically, there was little appetite for high-growth firms. That’s now changing,” he said.
According to Tracxn, 43 start-ups have gone public in India this year—five times the 2020 figure and double that of 2023.
Still, experts warn that inflated valuations could hurt small investors.
“Founders must be responsible in pricing,” Singh cautioned, though he noted that companies like Zomato, Nykaa, and Ixigo have proven profitable.
Accel partner Anand Daniel added, “Today’s listings reflect better governance and profitability—strong businesses are leading this charge.”

IndiGo has launched direct flights between Delhi and Guangzhou, marking Delhi as the airline’s second Indian city after Kolkata to have nonstop services to the Chinese city. With this addition, IndiGo now connects Delhi to 21 international destinations.

A US court has sentenced Sonal Nandkishor Patel, a 40-year-old Gujarati woman from Georgia, to seven years in prison for a fatal drunk-driving accident that killed a Cuban immigrant, Omar Ortiz, in February 2024. Patel received a total sentence of 25 years, with the remaining 18 years to be served on probation.
According to prosecutors, Patel was driving under the influence of alcohol and a prescribed drug, Trazodone, when her car, stopped in the middle of Interstate 85 in Gwinnett County, was struck from behind by Ortiz’s vehicle. Ortiz, 29, a father of two who had recently arrived from Cuba, died on the spot.
In one of the largest security crackdowns in recent years, police and paramilitary forces carried out coordinated raids across Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, targeting over 200 locations and detaining hundreds of individuals for questioning.
The operation, spanning multiple districts including Srinagar, Pulwama, Anantnag, Baramulla, and Shopian, was conducted in the early hours of the morning. Officials said the raids were part of an intensified investigation into alleged militant networks, separatist financing, and online propaganda activities aimed at disturbing peace in the region.

Real estate billionaire Barry Sternlicht has warned that New York City faces “a really tough time” under mayorelect Zohran Mamdani, comparing the city’s future to Mumbai. The Starwood Capital Group CEO said he is considering moving his company out of New York, blaming trade unions for driving up real estate costs and warning that Mamdani’s socialist agenda will worsen the crisis.
Mamdani has pledged to freeze rents
The billionaire noted that other developers have tried to cut deals with the unions, "but they rule New York, and that's one of the key reasons the blue states are so expensive and they're so difficult to add supply of housing to."
in rent-stabilised apartments, provide free bus services, universal childcare, and open five city-run grocery stores. Sternlicht criticised the rent-freeze plan, saying it could lead to widespread non-payment: “You can’t kick them out, so no one pays — you’ll turn New York City into Mumbai.”
He also warned that public safety could decline if Mamdani revives his “Defund the Police” stance. “If people feel unsafe, they’ll leave,” Sternlicht said, calling Mamdani’s economic vision “a socialist experiment that’s never worked.”

From January 1, 2026, a new law in Kentucky will make it mandatory for all convenience store owners selling tobacco products to obtain a license from the state’s Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC). The rule, which expands the existing licensing requirement previously limited to alcohol sellers, is set to impact hundreds of Gujarati store owners operating across the state — many of whom are allegedly running illegal gaming machines for extra income.
Until now, stores that sold tobacco but not alcohol did not require an ABC license, keeping them outside the agency’s inspection radar. But with the new law, every tobacco retailer

will be subject to ABC checks — and those found operating gaming machines could face severe penalties, including fines of up to $25,000 per machine. Authorities say the ABC will have full
power to inspect licensed stores at any time. If gaming machines are discovered, store owners could also face money laundering charges and possible immigration scrutiny, especially for undocumented workers. Many Gujarati store owners in counties like Laurel are said to earn more from gaming machines than from regular store sales. Experts warn the new regulation could wipe out this source of income, forcing some stores to shut down entirely.
In 2023, Kentucky’s General Assembly had already banned “gray machines” statewide. With tighter enforcement from 2026, illegal gaming operations by Indian-origin store owners may soon come to an end — along with their lucrative profits.

Actor Hema Malini on Tuesday morning slammed "false news" reports about her husband and legendary actor Dharmendra's health amid unconfirmed reports of his death.
Hema Malini, in an X post, said Dharmendra (89) is "responding to treatment and recovering". "What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and is recovering? This is being extremely disrespectful and irresponsible. Please give due respect to the family and its need for privacy," she wrote on the microblogging site.
Trump Signals Fair Trade Deal, Tariff Cuts With India

President Donald Trump has said the United States is “pretty close” to finalising a “fair trade deal” with India, while indicating that Washington will lower tariffs imposed on New Delhi “at some point.” “We're making a deal with India, much different deal than we had in the past. So right now, they don't love me, but they'll love us again,” Trump said

Nothing official yet but Delhi police sources tell both The Telegraph Online and news agencies that needle of suspicion points to ‘white collar’ module busted in Faridabad
Delhi police registered an FIR on Tuesday into Monday’s blast near the Red Fort under anti-terrorism sections and conducted raids at multiple locations in the national capital as preliminary findings suggested possible links to the “white-collar terror module” busted in Faridabad on Monday, per multiple sources and news agencies.
The death toll in the blast that occurred on Monday evening rose to 12, Delhi police said on Tuesday. Union home minister Amit Shah called a high-level security review meeting at 11am with Union home secretary.

A Lucknow-based woman doctor, arrested in connection with a massive explosives haul in Faridabad near Delhi, was tasked with establishing the women's wing of the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-eMohammed (JeM) in India, according to Delhi Police sources. Dr Shaheen Shahid was handed charge of the India branch of the JeM's women's wing, Jamaat ul-Mominaat, which is headed by JeM founder Masood Azhar's sister Sadia Azhar in Pakistan.

Trump said his administration planned to issue a $2,000 payment to lower- and middle-income Americans using the tariff dividends, while using the remaining proceeds to lower US debt.
US President Donald Trump has warned of an “economic and national security disaster” if the Supreme Court rules against his use of emergency powers to impose broad tariffs on most countries. The case challenges his authority under the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), which does not explicitly mention tariffs.
Trump said his administration plans to issue $2,000 payments to lower- and middle-income Americans from tariff revenues, with the rest used to reduce national debt. “We’re going to issue a dividend to our middle- and lowerincome people and use the remaining tariffs to lower our debt,” Trump said
during the swearing-in of new envoy to India, Sergio Gor.
Top adviser Kevin Hassett said stronger tax revenues made the proposed payments feasible. However, Supreme Court justices have questioned whether Trump had legal authority for the tariffs and raised concerns about refunding importers if the tariffs are struck down — potentially over $100 billion.
Trump rejected those figures, claiming repayments could exceed $2 trillion, and warned of chaos if the ruling goes against him. He also touted a decline in inflation to around 1.5% soon, despite consumer prices still up 3% year-on-year in September.

For millions chasing the U.S. dream, health may now be a hidden hurdle.
An internal State Department cable hints that chronic conditions— diabetes, asthma, heart disease, even obesity—could influence visa approvals, with Indians potentially at higher risk given the prevalence of these ailments.
The guidance, reportedly shared with consulates worldwide, signals a broader health review to determine whether applicants might become a “public charge.” Family members’ health could also factor in, raising stakes for those applying for green cards or sponsoring relatives. While routine nonimmigrant visas may

remain mostly unaffected, permanent residency applicants are likely to see the biggest impact. With nearly 95 million adults in India already living with diabetes, and South Asians genetically more prone to heart disease, the potential ripple effect is significant. Applicants are advised to stay informed, prepare proof of health coverage and finances, and coordinate with immigration counsel. As the U.S. increasingly links health to eligibility, navigating the American Dream may now require more than ambition—it may require good health too.

A controversy has erupted in Chicago’s Park Ridge area after ICE agents allegedly detained and questioned an Indianorigin man working at a state construction site. According to Chicago Sun-Times, the individual is an employee of the Illinois Department of Transportation and a US citizen.
The incident occurred Friday morning when ICE agents stopped the man at a highway resurfacing project, checked his immigration status, and asked unusual questions — including whether he knew New York’s newly elected mayor, Zohran Mamdani.
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker condemned the incident, calling it “shocking and unacceptable,” and said it reflected racial profiling under the Trump administration’s direction. His office stated that ICE agents had “no right” to stop or interrogate a state employee without cause.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), however, denied that ICE or Border Patrol agents questioned anyone.
The incident has intensified tensions as immigration raids across Chicago and nearby areas have led to over a thousand arrests. Protests have since erupted near ICE facilities in Broadview and Little Village, with local residents and activists accusing federal authorities of harassment and racial targeting.

A deal aimed at ending the US government shutdown has passed the Senate, paving the way for the recordbreaking impasse to be broken. After a weekend of negotiations in Washington, a minority of Democrats joined with Republicans and voted in favour of an agreement. The vote is a procedural first step towards passing a compromise to fund the government since it ran out of money 1 October.
The house was rented by Dr Mujammil Shakeel, a doctor from Jammu and Kashmir who has emerged as a key link in an inter-state and transnational terror module.
Just hours after 350 kg of explosives and several arms and ammunition were seized from a rented accommodation, 2,563 kg of suspected explosives were recovered from another house in Haryana's Faridabad. The house was rented by Dr Mujammil Shakeel, a doctor from Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama who has emerged as a key link in a whitecollar terrorist ecosystem involving radicalised professionals.
As per the initial police investigation, the recovered substance is likely ammonium nitrate.
The Faridabad and Jammu and Kashmir Police have been conducting a raid at this house since morning. Shakeel, who works at AL Falah Medical College and Hospital in Faridabad, was arrested in the case

recently. On Sunday, the officials recovered 350 kgs of explosives, 20 timers, assault rifles, handguns and ammunition from a room that Shakeel had been renting in Faridabad's Dhoj for the past three and a half years.
The second house is located in Fatehpur Taga village, 4 kilometres from Dhoj. The house is owned by a maulana (a Muslim scholar), who was taken into custody by the police earlier in the day.

New York City’s political and civic leaders have quietly begun preparing for potential federal actions by former President Donald Trump, The New York Times reported. Following the election of Zohraan Mamdani as mayor, Trump’s earlier threats to deploy federal troops and immigration agents in New York are now being taken seriously.
According to the report, Governor Kathy Hochul’s office, business leaders, and activists are holding private meetings to plan legal strategies, form rapid response groups, and create helplines similar to those in Chicago and Los Angeles.
Although Trump has strong ties to New York’s business and real estate sectors, city officials are not taking any chances. Senior adviser Jackie Bray is coordinating with other cities to design a response plan. Meanwhile, recent federal raids in Lower Manhattan have heightened concerns that New York could soon become an “urban battleground” under Trump’s renewed influence.

Earlier, Dr Adil Ahmad Rather, a Kashmiri doctor from Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur, was detained for allegedly putting up posters supporting the proscribed terror outfit Jaish-eMohammed in Srinagar.

In the first week of November, another deportation flight from the United States reportedly landed in Delhi, bringing back around 25 Gujaratis among more than 100 Indians. While the Indian government has not issued any official confirmation, a relative of one deportee told IamGujarat that most of the passengers were from Gujarat, Punjab, and Haryana. The flight’s exact point of origin in the US remains unclear, though most removal flights are believed to take off from Texas or Louisiana. Deportees included individuals arrested at the border as well as those detained within the country for minor crimes

such as drunk driving, theft, or assault. Sources said each deportee was restrained during the flight and given minimal food. The US has deported around 2,790 Indians this year, an

Experts note that while illegal crossings at the Mexico border have sharply declined due to the Trump administration’s stricter enforcement, deportations have increased. The number of Indians caught crossing illegally fell from 90,415 in 2023–24 to about 34,000 this year, yet the total deported has more than doubled. Meanwhile, Canada’s border has seen a rise in Indians attempting illegal entry into the US.

Chyawanprash Ads

Yoga guru Ramdev's Patanjali Ayurved was asked by the Delhi High Court on Thursday how it could refer to all other chyawanprash brands as 'dhokha' (fraud or deception) while touting its own as good.
Hearing a plea by Dabur India seeking an interim injunction against Patanjali running an advertisement to that effect, Justice Tejas Karia remarked that while Patanjali can claim to be the best, it cannot say that others are a fraud.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, campaigning in Bihar’s Sitamarhi, launched a sharp attack on the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), accusing it of “poisoning children’s minds” and promoting a return to “jungle raj.”
He cited an incident in Samastipur where a child at an RJD rally said they wanted to carry country-made guns, or kattas, if the party came to power.
“What RJD wants for Bihar’s children is shocking — they want them to become extortionists instead of doctors,” Modi said, adding, “Jungle raj means katta, krurta, katuta, kushasan, and corruption.”
The Prime Minister contrasted this with the NDA’s vision of progress, saying, “We are giving children books

and computers, while RJD wants them to carry guns.” He added that the RJD leaders want their own children to become ministers but others’ children to become criminals.
Citing the high turnout in the first phase of voting, Modi said the “youth have chosen development” and

"We confirm the kidnapping of five Indian nationals," a company representative told AFP.
In New Jersey, a former NYPD officer has confessed to shooting an unarmed Gujarati youth, Kishan Patel, after nearly two years of investigation. The incident occurred on May 17, 2024, in Voorhees Township, when off-duty officer Hugh Tran fired at Kishan after a minor car collision. The bullet struck Kishan in the head, leaving him with a severe brain injury that has confined him to bed ever since, with minimal chances of recovery.
After the shooting, Tran fled the scene, even stopping to refuel on his way home before calmly returning to work the next day. He was later traced through surveillance footage, phone records, and ballistic evidence that confirmed the shots came from his NYPD-issued firearm.Investigators also discovered that Tran, who had prior mental health

issues, had been advised to undergo treatment but was never relieved of his weapon. Arrested two weeks later, Tran initially denied all charges but has now pleaded guilty to attempted murder. His sentencing is scheduled for December 15, with prosecutors seeking a prison term of up to 20 years. Kishan’s family,
who operate multiple businesses in the U.S., has expressed deep anguish, calling for stronger accountability in police departments to prevent similar tragedies. They continue to care for Kishan, whose recovery remains uncertain despite months of specialized treatment in Texas.
The debate over which Indian city is safer for women — Delhi or Mumbai — continues to stir discussion. As Delhi Crime 3 nears release, actors Shefali Shah, Rasika Dugal, and Sayani Gupta reflected on their own experiences living in both cities and how urban environments shape women’s sense of safety.
Shefali Shah, who returns as DCP Vartika Chaturvedi, said she has never felt comfortable stepping out in Delhi. “I don’t go out unless I’m shooting,” she said, adding that she avoids going out even with friends. “If my friend in Delhi asks me to meet for dinner, I say no. Either she comes to me or I go to her.”
Sayani Gupta, who studied and worked in Delhi, said that youth often masks fear. “When you’re young, you’re fearless. I used to walk around places like Pragati Maidan late in the evening. Now I look back and think, ‘Was I mad?’” she said, adding that she still believes Mumbai is the safest city for women. “Here, nobody stares, nobody cares. Everyone is hustling.”
Rasika Dugal, recalling her college years in Delhi, said she often felt restricted. “I always had to watch my back. It wasn’t the most fun time,” she admitted. She attributes Mumbai’s safety to its infrastructure — efficient public transport and bustling nightlife that keeps “eyes on the road.”
Shefali concluded that crimes against women occur everywhere, not just in Delhi. Delhi Crime 3, directed by Tanuj Chopra and co-starring Huma Qureshi, explores human trafficking and streams on Netflix from November 13.

The Deol family was forced to intervene on Tuesday morning after a wave of false reports claiming that veteran star Dharmendra had passed away spread rapidly across social media and certain digital platforms. The rumours, which surfaced shortly after the news broke of the actor being hospitalised for age-related ailments, triggered widespread confusion among fans and prompted an outpouring of concern.

Dharmendra, who was admitted for routine monitoring a few days ago, has been under medical care but remains stable and on the road to recovery, according to his family. Despite his children already keeping followers updated on his progress,
misinformation continued to circulate, causing distress to both fans and the actor’s loved ones. Deeply upset by the insensitivity, Hema Malini took to social media to issue a firm statement condemning the false reports. Calling the situation “unforgivable,” the actress and parliamentarian expressed shock at how “responsible channels” could circulate such baseless news. She emphasised that Dharmendra is “responding to treatment and recovering,” and criticised the spread of rumours as “extremely disrespectful and irresponsible.” She further urged media outlets and social media users to allow the family space during this time, stressing the importance of respecting their need for privacy.
Harshvardhan Rane recently shared his views on fear and insecurity among aspiring actors, especially around nepotism. He said the word has been given far too much importance and has become a source of unnecessary anxiety. “When I visit acting schools, students ask more about nepotism than the craft of acting. It’s embarrassing to see that fear in their eyes,” he said.
Rane urged young talents to be fearless and chase their dreams without excuses. “The process is tough, yes. But the real issue is that many believe nothing can happen here. I want to remove that fear,” he explained.
He revealed that he lives by two purposes — “to gradually dilute the impact of the word ‘nepotism’” and “to dilute the concept of pre-release promotions.” He compared nepotism to a “traffic jam excuse” people use to justify failure.
Talking about film promotions, he cited KGF: Chapter 1 and Tumbbad, both successful despite minimal pre-release marketing. “Even Sanam Teri Kasam re-released and opened strong with just one Instagram post,” he said, adding that he hopes to change the mindset that films can’t succeed without promotions. “I want my legacy to be that I challenged industry norms and helped remove fear,” he concluded.

After tasting success at the box office, the courtroom drama Jolly LLB 3, starring Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi, is expected to drop online this Friday, that is, November 14. As per sources, its digital premiere will stand out as it'll be available on not just one but two platforms.
"Usually, a filmmaker signs an exclusive deal with only one streaming giant for his/her film. In case of Jolly LLB 3, it is expected to be available on two platforms - Netflix as well as JioHotstar. That's the reason both the platforms were mentioned in the opening slate of the film."
However, it’s not immediately clear if Jolly LLB 3 will be available on both platforms from November 14 or it will arrive on one streaming platform first and on the other after a few weeks.

Dharmendra, 89, is "recovering and responding to treatment," according to a statement shared by his son and actor Sunny Deol's team on Tuesday. "Sir is recovering and responding to treatment, let's all pray for his good health and long life," read the statement issued by Sunny Deol's team.

Farhan Akhtar has finally spoken about Naseeruddin Shah's over a decade-old criticism of his performance in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. The actor and filmmaker, who played legendary athlete Milkha Singh in the 2013 biopic, addressed the comments during a recent interviewcalling the veteran actor's remarks “distasteful” and saying there was a better way to share such feedback. Back in 2013, Naseeruddin Shah had publicly slammed both the film and Farhan's portrayal of Milkha Singh. The veteran actor had told IANS, “I don't care about Farhan Akhtar, and I don't watch his films,” adding that physical transformation alone does not count as acting. “Farhan has no doubt worked very hard, but building up muscles and growing your hair is not exactly working hard on your acting. At least he should have tried to look like Milkha. Milkha is mighty pleased by him, and he imagines that this was his life. He imagines he looked like that. Doesn't he have photographs of himself from the 1960s Olympics?” Naseeruddin Shah added. “Farhan has no doubt worked very hard, but building up muscles and growing your hair is not exactly working hard on your acting. At least he should have tried to look like Milkha.

A U.S. court has ordered two gaming machine companies to pay $15.3 million in damages to the family of Ashok Patel, a 50-year-old Gujarati man who was shot dead during a robbery at a convenience store in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, in December 2020. Patel had been working at the store, Craig’s Food Mart, for barely a week when the fatal shooting occurred.
According to court filings, the robbery was linked to gaming machines installed in the store. The victim’s family argued that these machines attracted large amounts of cash and increased the risk of violent crime. The lawsuit named both the store owner and the companies responsible for manufacturing and distributing the gaming machines.
After a jury trial in Philadelphia County, the court ruled against Pace-O-Matic (POM) and Miele Manufacturing, which develop and distribute gaming machines

Ahmedabad: In a shocking case of immigration fraud, a 73-yearold woman from Surat, Gujarat, has been deported from the United States after entering into a fake marriage with a 64-year-old African-American man in an attempt to secure a green card. The woman, originally from Saurashtra, had travelled to the U.S. on a visitor visa with her son and daughter-in-law around 2017 and later overstayed.
According to documents obtained , the woman married Tess Memo, a U.S. citizen, in December 2023 in Tallahassee, Florida. Their official marriage certificate lists the woman’s birth year as 1950 and her husband’s as 1959. Sources allege that the marriage was arranged purely for immigration benefits, with a significant sum of money exchanged between the parties. However, the plan failed when the couple could not convince U.S. immigration officials that their marriage was genuine. The woman reportedly spoke no English, while her supposed husband did not understand Gujarati—making it impossible to prove a legitimate relationship. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is believed to have rejected her green card application.
Fraudulent Florida marriage exposed; family accused of multi-million-dollar scams before fleeing to India
Further investigation revealed that her son had also been involved in defrauding several people in Tallahassee of large sums of money before disappearing. The family allegedly applied for asylum as well, but their appeal was rejected earlier this year, and an immigration court ordered them to leave the U.S. within 90 days.
During their eight-year stay in America, the couple’s son and daughter-in-law had two children, who are U.S. citizens. After the deportation order, the family returned to India, though the son’s current whereabouts remain unknown. U.S. authorities have reportedly issued a warrant related to the financial fraud.
Immigration experts note that fake marriages, once a relatively common route to U.S. residency, now carry severe consequences including permanent bans and criminal prosecution. Despite having U.S.born grandchildren, the Surat family may now be barred from re-entering the country. Sources say they are currently preparing to leave India once again amid fears of further legal action.
2021 and later sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for first-degree murder, robbery, and theft.
The Patel family’s lawsuit initially named 25 defendants, including the store’s owner, Chandrakant Patel of Shri Umiya of Hazleton LLC.
The store ownership settled out of court, but POM and Miele chose to contest the case, resulting in the recent jury verdict.
The family’s attorneys argued that gaming machines make convenience stores vulnerable to robberies and that employers often fail to protect workers like Patel. While the jury’s decision marks a rare case of a civil award tied to a fatal robbery, legal experts say it could take time for the family to receive payment as appeals proceed.
Ashok Patel’s killing highlights the growing number of Gujarati workers in the U.S. who fall victim to violent robberies, though civil lawsuits of this kind remain uncommon.

Dallas, Texas: A Cuban illegal immigrant accused of brutally stabbing Indian motel manager Chandra Nagamallaiah—known locally as “Bob”—to death in Dallas County now faces a capital murder charge, which could lead to either life imprisonment without parole or the death penalty.
The accused, identified as Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, allegedly attacked Nagamallaiah with a sharp weapon inside the motel on the morning of September 10. Surveillance footage of the incident later went viral, showing the horrifying assault that continued until the victim succumbed to his injuries. Police arrived at the scene shortly after and arrested the suspect as he tried to flee. He is currently being held at the Dallas County Jail, where U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed an immigration detainer on him.
Court records reveal that CobosMartinez, who moved from San Antonio to Dallas in 2021, has a criminal history in both Cuba and Florida. He had previously been detained by ICE but was released on January 13 this year after deportation efforts failed. Nagamallaiah, originally from Bengaluru, had relocated to the United States in 2020 to build a career in the motel industry.

WASHINGTON, DC -The United States District Court for the District of Maryland issued an order in Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project v. United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, et al., No. SAG-25-03299 (D. Md.), temporarily staying the implementation of the Annual Asylum Fee (AAF) provisions by USCIS as set forth in the notice titled “USCIS Immigration Fees Required by HR-1 Reconciliation Bill,” published in the Federal Register (90 FR 34511) on July 22, 2025. While USCIS strongly disagrees with the Court’s order, it will comply with the terms of the stay pending possible further judicial review. The Federal Register notice described how the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) would implement the mandatory AAF for Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 and subsequent years. It specified

that any individual with a pending Form I-589, Application for Asylum and for Withholding of Removal, throughout FY 2025 would be subject to the FY 2025 AAF. Additionally, individuals who filed an asylum application on or after October 1, 2024, and whose application remains pending with USCIS for 365 days, must pay the AAF on the one-year anniversary of the filing date and annually thereafter while the application remains pending. The notice further provided that USCIS
would directly notify affected individuals when the AAF is due and how payment must be made. The FY 2025 fee is not due until an official notice has been sent. USCIS also indicated it would issue additional guidance regarding AAF payments for future fiscal years in subsequent notices. On or around October 1, 2025, USCIS began issuing individualized notices to asylum applicants indicating that their AAF was due.
Pursuant to the Court’s October 30, 2025, order, USCIS has paused the issuance of AAF notices. Any applicant who has received a notice directing payment of the AAF may disregard that notice while the temporary stay remains in effect. USCIS will not refund AAF payments already made; applicants who have paid the fee should retain their receipts as proof of payment. USCIS will provide updated instructions regarding AAF payment requirements as further litigation developments occur.

CHICAGO, IL – U.S.

District Judge Robert W. Gettleman has condemned conditions at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Broadview, Illinois, calling detainees’ accounts “disturbing,” “disgusting,” and “unconstitutional.” His Nov. 4 review follows lawsuits filed by detainees alleging denial of attorney access, coercion into signing deportation documents, and confinement in squalid conditions.
The Broadview facility, central to President Donald Trump’s ongoing “Operation Midway Blitz” immigration crackdown, processes detainees before transfer or deportation. Witnesses described people forced to sleep shoulder to shoulder beside overflowing toilets. “That’s unacceptable,” Gettleman said after six hours of testimony, comparing the site to overcrowded jails.
Federal officials denied mistreatment claims, asserting that all detainees receive three meals daily, water, phone access, and medical care. Jana Brady, a defense attorney, admitted the facility was overcrowded but said officials were “working to improve conditions,” including distributing wipes for personal hygiene.
Testimony included two plaintiffs, a woman deported to Honduras and other former detainees, as well as attorneys who represented clients there. One plaintiff, Claudia Carolina Pereira Guevara, testified via video
that she was held for five days and coerced into signing deportation papers under threat of indefinite detention. “I didn’t want to leave my children behind,” she said tearfully.
Once a short-term processing site where detainees stayed less than 12 hours, Broadview has since June allowed detention for up to 72 hours. Witnesses testified that some were held up to 12 days without beds, blankets, or pillows. “It has really become a prison,” Gettleman remarked. The hearing occurred as Homeland Security reported more than 3,000 arrests under Operation Midway Blitz, and while the Supreme Court deliberates Trump’s bid to deploy National Guard troops to Chicago—an action the White House claims is necessary to enforce immigration law but Democrats call a “power grab.”
Attorneys from the MacArthur Justice Center, ACLU of Illinois, and Eimer Stahl law firm argued detainees are denied meaningful legal access. “It’s operating as a black site,” said Alexa Van Brunt of MacArthur, stressing that contact with counsel is crucial before detainees sign documents waiving their rights. Government lawyers countered that phone access suffices and that brief detentions don’t require inperson counsel.
Judge Gettleman has yet to rule on the plaintiffs’ request for a temporary restraining order.

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has launched at least 175 investigations into potential abuses within the H-1B visa program, as part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to tighten oversight of the foreign worker visa system, Fox News reported on November 7.
The initiative, called “Project Firewall,” began in September and focuses on companies allegedly misusing the H-1B program, which allows U.S. employers to hire foreign professionals in specialized fields such as information technology, engineering, and healthcare.
“The Department of Labor is using every resource at our disposal to put a stop to H-1B abuse and protect American jobs,” said Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“Under the leadership of @POTUS, we’ll continue to invest in our workforce and ensure high-skilled job opportunities go to American workers FIRST!” The White House amplified the announcement, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt posting on X: “Trump admin reveals over 100 investigations into H-1B abuses as it pledges ‘every resource’ to protect U.S. jobs.”
This marks the latest step in a series of measures by the Trump administration and Republican leaders aimed at tightening regulations on the H-1B visa system.
According to official data, India-born professionals accounted for over 70% of all approved H-1B visas in 2024, driven largely by a backlog of applications and the high volume of skilled workers from India seeking employment in the United States.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S.
Citizenship and Immigration Services today announced that since starting its hiring campaign for Homeland Defenders on Sept. 30, the agency has received an overwhelming 35,000plus applications—the most for any position in agency history. The agency says its aggressive social media campaign is attracting Americans to join USCIS and restore integrity to the nation’s immigration system after four years of Biden’s border chaos. USCIS is cutting bureaucratic red tape to hire fiercely dedicated, America-first patriots to serve on the frontlines and hold the line against terrorists, criminal aliens, and bad actors intent on infiltrating our nation. This includes interviewing aliens, reviewing applications, and identifying criminal or ineligible aliens.
“The Homeland Defender Campaign

has already been a tremendous success and has resonated with the American people. I’m pleased to announce that in addition to seeing a historic number of applications, we are starting to bring on applicants at a rapid pace,” said USCIS Director Joseph Edlow. “USCIS is not
wasting time, we are committed to implementing President Trump’s priorities. These candidates are not just applying for a job—they are applying to guard our values and defend our homeland. I look forward to onboarding many more Homeland Defenders in the coming weeks.”
USCIS has made hundreds of job offers and looks forward to onboarding the first Homeland Defenders soon. Among those receiving offers are former law enforcement personnel and veterans who have experience serving and protecting their communities and our homeland.
USCIS Homeland Defenders may be eligible for signing bonuses up to $50,000, student loan repayment, flexible duty locations, and remote work options for select openings, with expedited hiring for entry-level positions that do not require a college degree. These opportunities aim to attract talented individuals quickly while providing competitive benefits. USCIS has cut red tape and can make on-the-spot job offers at upcoming job fairs. This visit is part of Bal Vihar’s ongoing effort to help students engage with diverse cultures and religious traditions. Previous visits have included the Sikh Gurudwara, Jewish Synagogue, Hindu Temple, Islamic Mosque, Christian Church, Buddhist Monastery, Bahá’í Temple, and Swaminarayan Mandir.
ST LOUIS, MO- The Center of Indian Cultural Education – Bal Vihar of St. Louis continues its mission to broaden the worldviews of its students by organizing educational field trips to regional places of worship. As part of this initiative, Bal Vihar youth students recently visited the Buddha Temple of St. Louis to learn about the teachings of Buddhism and the importance of Seva (selfless service).
This visit is part of Bal Vihar’s ongoing effort to help students engage with diverse cultures and religious traditions. Previous visits have included the Sikh Gurudwara, Jewish Synagogue, Hindu Temple, Islamic Mosque, Christian Church, Buddhist Monastery, Bahá’í Temple, and Swaminarayan Mandir. These interfaith experiences aim to foster curiosity, empathy, and understanding among students while highlighting both the similarities and differences between various faiths. Through such encounters, students not only learn about others’ beliefs and practices but also gain a deeper appreciation of their own values.
On Sunday, September 28, 2025, Bal Vihar students visited the Buddha Temple of St. Louis (Buddhist
Monastery), where they participated in a congregational prayer service followed by a community lunch.
A Buddha temple is a sacred space for worship, meditation, and community—symbolizing a place to connect with the Buddha’s teachings and cultivate spiritual growth. Temples serve as centers for chanting, studying the Dharma, and nurturing compassion, while also acting as cultural and artistic hubs.
During the visit, students respectfully observed Buddhist customs, emphasizing the importance of reverence in places of worship. They attended a lecture by the temple’s spiritual guru and took part in an engaging Q&A session to deepen their understanding of Buddhist philosophy.
After the prayer service, students were offered prasad (a blessed meal) in the assembly hall and learned about the Buddhist practice of Seva—selfless service as an expression of equality, community, and devotion.
Key Lessons from the Visit
• Founder: Siddhartha Gautama, known as the Buddha
• Time Period: 5th or 6th century BCE
• Origin: Northern India, in and around the ancient
Kingdom of Magadha
• Key Event: Gautama’s enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, leading him to teach the path to end human suffering through mindfulness, compassion, and moral living
“We hope these trips spark curiosity in our students and help them recognize the shared human values across different faiths,” said a Bal Vihar representative. “In a world often divided by differences, these experiences bring our children closer to the core values of compassion, respect, and peace.”
Through this series of interfaith visits, Bal Vihar students continue to gain invaluable perspectives on the richness of world religions while learning to embrace diversity with open hearts and minds.
Bal Vihar extends heartfelt gratitude to the Buddha Temple of St. Louis for their warm hospitality and for offering students a meaningful experience in Buddhism and Seva. Special thanks are also due to Mrs. Kanal Patel for her dedicated efforts in organizing this enriching field trip.
NEW YORK, NY — Mayor Eric Adams has announced that approximately 2,900 former New York City employees who lost their jobs after refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine will be offered a second chance to return to work.
Under the new policy, eligible workers will be reinstated to their previous titles and salaries. The reinstatement applies to employees terminated from all mayoral agencies, New York City Public Schools, and the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA).
“The policies put in place before we came into office helped us weather additional waves of COVID, and once coupled with the policies our administration put in place over the first months of our term, we helped New York City rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic with a record number of jobs, record number of small businesses, near record tourism

All eligible former workers— including those from the permanent competitive, labor class, noncompetitive, and exempt categories— must contact the head of human resources at their former agency by December 5, according to the mayor’s office.
numbers, and so much more,” Mayor Adams said in a statement.
“But we recognize that we are in a

different place today than we were nearly four years ago, and our policies should match the realities of the times. That’s why we are updating our policies to reflect our new health and economic reality, as we look forward to welcoming back many of our former employees. Ensuring New York City has the strongest workforce possible will continue to make our city safer, more affordable, and the best place to raise a family.”
The Adams administration previously offered reinstatement in 2023, when 450 terminated employees returned to work following the initial outreach.
Former city employees will have an opportunity to testify on the proposed rule changes during a virtual hearing hosted by the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) on November 19.
All eligible former workers—including those from the permanent competitive, labor class, non-competitive, and exempt categories—must contact the head of human resources at their former agency by December 5, according to the mayor’s office. The original COVID-19 vaccine mandate for city employees was announced by then-Mayor Bill de Blasio in the fall of 2021 and was officially lifted in February 2023.

WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued 18 warning letters to operators of websites found to be illegally marketing unapproved and misbranded botulinum toxin products, commonly known as Botox. The agency reports having received adverse event reports, including botulism symptoms, linked to such unapproved products.
Botulinum toxin products are injectable drugs that block nerve activity in muscles, temporarily reducing movement. They are used both cosmetically—to smooth facial wrinkles—and medically—to treat conditions such as chronic migraines and muscle stiffness.
“Unapproved and misbranded Botox products carry serious health risks. Today we’re taking action to protect American consumers and prevent online entities from selling these dangerous products,” said FDA Commissioner Marty Makary, M.D., M.P.H. FDA-approved botulinum toxin products carry a boxed warning, the agency’s most serious alert, emphasizing that these drugs pose a significant risk of severe or life-threatening side effects. This warning highlights that botulinum toxin can cause symptoms resembling botulism—a condition that attacks the nervous system, leading to muscle weakness, breathing difficulties, and potentially death.

LOUISVILLE, KY- At least seven people were killed when a UPS cargo plane crashed shortly after takeoff Tuesday evening in Louisville, Kentucky, igniting a massive fire near the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport. UPS Flight 2976, a McDonnell Douglas MD-11 bound for Honolulu with three crew members, went down around 5:15 p.m., striking a petroleum recycling business and an auto parts facility. Governor Andy Beshear called it “a catastrophic crash,” saying at least 11 were injured and more victims might be found as search efforts continue.
The fire, fueled by about 38,000 gallons of jet fuel, sent thick black smoke over the area and triggered multiple explosions. Officials ordered residents north of the Outer Loop to the Ohio River to shelter in place.
Emergency crews worked overnight to contain the blaze and account for missing individuals. UPS suspended operations at its Worldport hub and opened a family assistance line. Federal investigators from the NTSB and FAA are on site.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and Sen. Mitch McConnell offered condolences and urged residents to follow safety directives as the investigation continues.

Payment-card skimming remains one of the most persistent threats facing small retailers. Compact, customer facing terminals—like popular PAX handhelds used at counters and windows—are convenient for fast checkout. Still, their size and visibility can also make them attractive targets for criminals who attach surreptitious overlays or hide deep insert skimmers in the card slot. The good news: with disciplined routines, a few configuration choices, and the right partner, you can substantially reduce your risk.
Know what a skimmer looks like on PAX devices
On PAX S series and handheld units, an external overlay will typically make the reader look slightly “off”: bulkier than usual, with seams that don’t align, or a card entry that sits a hair out of center. Gentle pressure may reveal wobbly parts because overlays are often affixed with tape or glue. Some attacks add a thin keypad shell to capture PINs or place a tiny pinhole camera near the screen to film keypad entry. If you notice glue residue, mismatched plastics, broken seals, or anything that feels different—stop and inspect before continuing transactions. Build a 60 second inspection habit (every shift, every lane)
Make terminal checks as routine as counting cash drawers.
• Look & feel: Compare each device to a reference photo. Check for misaligned graphics, odd edges, or thicker than normal housings. Lightly tug the reader bezel and keypad; legitimate assemblies feel solid.
• Card insert test: If cards now require unusual force or the slot “feels different,” power down and investigate.
• PIN privacy: Scan for unusual objects or tiny holes pointed at the keypad area; cover your own hand

as a demo when training staff.
• Seals & screws: Confirm tamper labels are intact and screws show no tool marks. Document with a timestamped photo at each shift change.
Harden your checkout area.
• Placement: Keep terminals inside the clerk’s line of sight—never unattended on the customer side of a divider or attached by long cables that can be moved out of view.
• Mounting: Use lockable cradles or short, secured tethers; criminals avoid targets that take time and tools.
• Cameras and lighting: Aim one store camera at each payment station. Visible deterrence matters, and recorded footage helps investigators if something happens.
• Access control: Restrict who can remove or service devices; keep a log of serial numbers and locations.
Prefer safer payment methods—and configure devices accordingly.
Encourage EMV chip and contactless (“tap”) transactions; both sharply reduce the value of skimmed magnetic stripe data. Where your processor allows, minimize mag stripe fallback and require chip/tap when a chip is
present. Train cashiers to politely ask customers to shield the keypad with a hand when entering PINs (post a small sign to normalize the behavior). Note that EBT cards are often still mag stripe based; that makes shielding PIN entry and visual inspections especially critical for stores serving EBT customers. Mind the signals—without chasing ghosts
Some modern skimmers use short range radios to exfiltrate data. If you suddenly see unfamiliar Bluetooth names clustering around a single lane—and other checks also look wrong—treat it as a corroborating signal and investigate. (Bluetooth “noise” alone isn’t proof; use it to reinforce your physical findings.)
Keep software and firmware current PAX terminals ship with strong security features and are designed to meet PCI requirements, but no device remains secure with outdated code. Schedule updates during low traffic hours, apply manufacturer and processor patches promptly, and disable unused ports and default credentials. A well maintained device sharply narrows the attack surface that criminals depend on. Have a clear response plan. If you suspect tampering: 1- Power down and remove the terminal
from service; 2 - Do not peel off any overlay—treat the device as evidence; 3- Call your processor’s security line and local law enforcement; 4-Preserve relevant video clips; 5Document terminal ID, last known good inspection, and staff on duty; 6- Follow guidance on customer notifications and dispute handling. A fast, documented response limits losses and speeds reimbursement investigations.
Why partnering with NRS puts independents a step ahead
National Retail Solutions (NRS) focuses on the needs of independent convenience stores and bodegas that may not have corporate security teams. NRS leadership has publicly emphasized rigorous daily inspections, staff training, and rapid escalation procedures—and equips merchants with practical, store friendly checklists that make these habits stick.
In plain terms: NRS doesn’t just ship a PAX terminal; we advocate the operational discipline that actually prevents fraud in the real world. For many small retailers, that combination of hardware, software, and hands on guidance is the difference between “hoping” you’re secure and knowing you’re running a defensible process. A one minute script you can implement today
• At open and shift change: Inspect, tug test, and photo log each terminal.
• During rushes: Keep eyes on devices; remind customers to chip/tap and shield PINs.
• At close: Verify seals, reconcile logs, and stow handhelds in a locked area. Skimming thrives on complacency. By combining visible physical checks, smart device configuration, and a practiced response plan—supported by a partner like NRS that champions merchant friendly security—you make your PAX handhelds hard targets and protect the trust your community places in your counter. ARTESIA, CA- To mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the South Asian Network (SAN) led a community march along Pioneer Boulevard in Artesia, rallying survivors, families, youth, and leaders to “make awaz” — raise their voices — against domestic violence.
Dozens of participants, dressed in purple, the color of awareness, filled the heart of Little India. The sound of dhol player Jup G energized the march, transforming the event into a spirited display of solidarity as local business owners paused to applaud.
The urgency of this cause is reflected in data from SOAR (South Asians Organizing for Radical Healing), showing that nearly 48 percent of South Asian Americans experience physical violence. SAN, a Southern California nonprofit, addresses this crisis through its culturally tailored gender-based violence initiative, AWAZ.
Following the march, a rally featured remarks from community leaders including Artesia Councilwoman Zeel Ahir, Cerritos City Councilmember Mark Pulido, and Ada Briceño, President of UNITE HERE Local 11.
Representing SAN’s youth, Sahil reminded the crowd that domestic violence “cuts across every background,” emphasizing that many survivors “suffer in silence, afraid or unable to seek help.”
CHICAGO, IL - The Bharatiya Senior Citizens of Chicago (BSC) hosted its annual Tulsi Vivah celebration on November 2, 2025, at Manav Seva Mandir in Bensenville, Illinois.
The much-anticipated event, which ran from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., drew an enthusiastic crowd of over 500 members and guests who came together to celebrate this sacred and joyous Hindu tradition.
Upon arrival, attendees were warmly welcomed with tea, coffee, and light refreshments, setting a convivial tone for the afternoon.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), a senior member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, has formally called on Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Attorney General Pam Bondi to take active steps to secure testimony from Andrew Mountbatten Windsor in connection with the ongoing investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s sextrafficking network.
In a letter dated November 7, Krishnamoorthi emphasized the need for “full transparency and accountability” for Epstein’s survivors and the American public from anyone with knowledge of the criminal enterprise.
Citing the U.S.–U.K. Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT), Krishnamoorthi noted that both the State and Justice Departments have clear authority under the agreement to request assistance from the British government in obtaining witness testimony and evidence.
The congressman further insisted that if Mountbatten Windsor were to enter U.S. jurisdiction, the administration “must be prepared to compel his cooperation through lawful subpoena authority or other appropriate mechanisms.” Krishnamoorthi also warned that ongoing “delays in the release of the so-called Epstein Files” have fueled public suspicion that the administration may be shielding powerful individuals from scrutiny.

3:30 p.m., performed with full Vedic decorum and accompanied by live Lagna Geet rendered by a talented musical group, adding authenticity and
devotion to the ceremony.
The Devi Tulsi Yajmans for the evening were Mansukhbhai and Geetaben Kheni, while the Shree Krishna Yajmans

NEW YORK, NY -Two ICE agents were seen filming the press outside New York’s immigration court at 26 Federal Plaza on July 11, 2025 — a glimpse into the Department of Homeland Security’s growing surveillance arsenal.
DHS has been equipping agents with new technologies, including facial recognition and iris-scanning apps capable of identifying people and determining immigration status in real time. ICE has also revived a spyware contract and expanded social media monitoring with AIdriven tools, aiming to track users across platforms like Facebook and TikTok.
The Trump administration says these tools will help reach its goal of a million deportations a year. But Democratic lawmakers and privacy advocates warn the technologies threaten constitutional rights and could be misused to target U.S. citizens and protesters.
Sen. Edward Markey (D-Mass.) called the surveillance “harrowing,” saying it “chills speech and erodes

As the rituals concluded, guests enjoyed a sumptuous community dinner, marking the perfect close to a day filled with faith, music, and togetherness.
Entry to the celebration was free for all BSC members, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to fostering unity, cultural continuity, and shared joy among Chicago’s senior community.

privacy.” Legal experts warn ICE’s use of facial recognition, data tracking, and spyware like Paragon’s Graphite — which can infiltrate phones without user interaction — undermines the Fourth Amendment. ICE defends its approach, saying law enforcement agencies have long used technology to catch criminals “while respecting civil liberties.” DHS insists all tools comply with oversight frameworks.
Still, privacy groups say the scale of monitoring is unprecedented.
Georgetown Law’s Emily Tucker warns it signals the construction of a “massive surveillance apparatus” that could be turned against anyone in America.
AUSTIN, TX – A 23-year-old student from Andhra Pradesh, Rajyalakshmi (Raji) Yarlagadda, who had recently graduated from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi, was found dead in her sleep on November 7. Her untimely death has left her family and friends heartbroken.
Raji had come to the United States with dreams of pursuing higher education and securing a better future for her family, who depend on a small piece of farmland back home in India. Having recently completed her studies, she was actively seeking employment opportunities.
“She was the youngest and most ambitious member of our family — determined to support her parents financially and make them proud,” said her cousin, Chaitanya YVK, in a statement. Chaitanya has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover Raji’s funeral expenses and repay her education loan.
According to friends, Raji had been suffering from a persistent cough and chest pain for two to three days prior to her death. On the morning of November 7, when she failed to respond to her alarm, her roommates went to check on her — only to discover that she had passed away in her sleep.
Authorities in the U.S. have launched a medical examination to determine the exact cause of death.

SKOKIE, IL — The Skokie Village Board of Trustees unanimously approved an anti–Immigration and Customs Enforcement ordinance this week amid concern over recent violent arrests by federal agents.
The measure amends Chapter 58 of the Village Code. It bars village personnel from assisting immigration operations without a criminal warrant, creates protocols for documenting federal agents’ use of village property, and directs distribution of “know your rights” materials.

WASHINGTON, DC — Former President Donald Trump’s endorsement of Vivek Ramaswamy for Governor of Ohio has sparked intense debate within the MAGA movement, revealing internal fractures over the biotech entrepreneur’s political authenticity.
On November 7, Trump issued a “Complete and Total Endorsement,” calling Ramaswamy “something SPECIAL” and a “GREAT Governor.” He praised Ramaswamy’s business acumen and pledged that he would “grow the economy, cut taxes, promote energy independence, and defend the Second Amendment.”
Ramaswamy, who previously ran against Trump in the 2024 GOP primary before endorsing him, responded on X: “Thank you, Mr. President, for securing our border and making America safer. Now it’s up to the states—more energy, more housing, better education, less crime, less taxation, less bureaucracy. Starting in Ohio soon.”
The post drew a divided reaction. Critics dismissed him as “too polished” and “not truly MAGA,” while supporters insisted Trump’s backing should end the skepticism. The controversy also reignited racial tensions, as Ramaswamy—like Second Lady Usha Vance—has faced racist attacks online for his Indian heritage and Hindu faith.
His endorsement comes days after he criticized Republicans for recent election losses in Virginia, New Jersey, and New York City, warning the party was “getting its a** handed to us.” He urged conservatives to reject identity politics and refocus on economic issues and voter outreach—messaging that may define his high-stakes bid to govern Ohio under the Trump banner..

member Bushra Amiwala led a rally urging passage. “I’ve gotten calls every day from people seeking help as families
are being ripped apart by ICE,” she said. “These policies won’t end the suffering, but they will help.”
The action follows a widely shared video from Evanston showing agents striking a person last week. Three people were detained after a sedan hit the rear of a U.S. Border Patrol vehicle, drawing a crowd. Agents were seen using pepper spray, punching a bystander, and pointing a gun toward a woman who opened a vehicle door.
Mayor Anne Tennes said 100 mayors have reported similar incidents. Residents are urged to report immigration activity to the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights Family Support Network hotline at 855-435-7693.

CHICAGO, , IL - Officials from the Cook County property tax system announced that approximately 1.8 million second installment property tax bills for Tax Year 2024 are expected to be mailed to property owners on November 14, 2025, with a due date of December 15, 2025.
Cook County property tax bills are issued twice a year, in two installments, following a complex process involving multiple agencies and systems to
ensure timely and accurate delivery.
A significant modernization of the County’s property tax technology infrastructure has impacted the timing and workflow of these processes.
In anticipation of potential delays, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, who does not have a statutory role in administering property tax bills, launched a Bridge Loan Program to provide no-interest loans totaling hundreds of millions of dollars to local taxing jurisdictions (LTJs) across Cook County. The program was designed to mitigate fiscal challenges that taxing districts—such as municipalities, park districts, and school districts—might face due to delayed tax revenues.
In total, nearly 20 local taxing jurisdictions will receive more than $20 million in short-term, no-interest loans through the Bridge Loan Program, helping maintain essential public services and financial stability during the delay.

FREMONT, CA — Federal agents conducted undisclosed “knock and talk” operations in Fremont on Saturday, seeking “voluntary cooperation” from select individuals, city officials confirmed. According to spokeswoman Geneva Bosques, agents arrived in the morning and left around 12:20 p.m., though their agency affiliation and objectives remain unclear. Mayor Raj Salwan said he learned of the visits midmorning from City Manager Karena Shackelford and emphasized that the actions appeared voluntary and “not

WASHINGTON, DC — Under President Donald J. Trump’s leadership, the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection have delivered the most secure border in American history. October FY2026 Highlights:
• Lowest October on record: 30,561 total encounters — 29% below the previous low and 79% lower than October 2024.
• Sixth straight month of zero releases: Every apprehension processed lawfully; none released into the U.S.
• Nine months of Trump vs. one month of Biden: 106,134 total encounters since January — less than one month’s average under Biden (155,485).
• Daily average apprehensions: 258 per day — 95% lower than under the previous administration.
• Historic control: Apprehensions have averaged under 10,000 per month since Trump took office. Secretary Kristi Noem: “History made — the lowest border crossings ever and six straight months of zero releases. Thank you, President Trump and our brave DHS law enforcement.”
CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott: “Our mission is simple — secure the border and safeguard this nation. No excuses. No politics. Just results.”
heavy handed.” He added that Fremont, a “compassionate, sanctuary city,” does not participate in immigration enforcement, stressing, “We want folks to be able to trust law enforcement… We don’t want them to be scared.” Fremont Police Chief Sean Washington and federal agencies, including ICE, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The mayor assured residents that Fremont remains “a relatively safe city” and “not a big target.”
The visits follow last month’s Bay Area protests, where demonstrators clashed with federal agents at Coast Guard Island after President Donald Trump’s warning of an immigration enforcement “surge.” In response, several Bay Area jurisdictions—including Santa Clara County, San Jose, and Berkeley—are considering “ICE-free zones.” State Sen. Aisha Wahab criticized the federal actions, saying they “erode public trust” and violate constitutional rights.

WASHINGTON, DC — Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) has called on Senate Democrats to remove Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), accusing him of failing to keep the party unified during the ongoing government shutdown.
Khanna, a progressive representing Silicon Valley, issued the demand after eight Senate Democrats voted on November 9 to advance a funding bill to reopen the federal government — a measure that omits the renewal of enhanced health insurance subsidies.
“Senator Schumer is no longer effective and should be replaced. If you can’t lead the fight to stop healthcare premiums from skyrocketing for Americans, what will you fight for?” Khanna posted on X.
