Bitcoin Jesus Settles $50M US Tax Case

The United States is preparing for widespread demonstrations this weekend as organizers announce nationwide “No Kings Day” protests on October 18.

The coordinated movement is set to unfold across more than 2,500 cities and towns, with participants rallying against what they describe as the authoritarian policies and power consolidation of the Donald Trump administration.Organizers say the protests aim to defend democratic values, civil rights, and the rule of law amid growing concerns about political overreach.

Demonstrators are expected to march under the slogan “No Kings,” symbolizing resistance to any form of autocratic leadership in a democratic nation.

Large gatherings are planned in major cities including

Washington D.C., New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, where activists, civil society groups, and student organizations will join together in peaceful marches, speeches, and community outreach events.

Law enforcement agencies across several states have begun coordinating with local officials to ensure public safety during the events. While organizers emphasize that the demonstrations will remain nonviolent, authorities are preparing for large turnouts and possible disruptions to traffic and public transport.

The “No Kings” movement, growing rapidly on social media, reflects a broader public demand for accountability and the preservation of American democratic institutions.

US Aviation Struggles Exposed Amid Shutdown

United States: Roger Ver, an early investor in cryptocurrency known as "Bitcoin Jesus," has agreed to pay $50 million to resolve US tax charges, the Justice Department said Tuesday. Ver renounced his US citizenship in 2014 and took up residence in the Caribbean island St Kitts and Nevis.

Ver failed, however, to fully report his bitcoin holdings to the US tax authorities at the time of his expatriation and was indicted on federal tax charges. Under a deferred prosecution agreement, he agreed to pay $50 million in back taxes, penalties and interest, the Justice Department said.

"We are pleased that Mr Ver has taken responsibility for his past misconduct and satisfied his obligations to the American public," Associate Deputy Attorney General Ketan Bhirud said in a statement.

"This resolution sends a clear message: whether you deal in dollars or digital assets, you must file accurate tax returns and pay what you owe."

SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk said earlier this year that he was exploring a pardon for Ver from President Donald Trump.

A week into the U.S. government shutdown, cracks in the nation’s aviation system are already showing. On October 6, the control tower at Hollywood Burbank Airport in Los Angeles went dark for nearly six hours due to a lack of air traffic controllers, causing flight delays averaging two and a half hours. Since the shutdown began October 1, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has reported staffing shortages at

airports and control centers nationwide, from Boston to Houston. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has also seen an uptick in absences, raising fears of longer security lines as employees miss paychecks.

Experts say the disruptions highlight long-standing issues — chronic understaffing, outdated technology, and slow modernization efforts. The FAA has been short around 3,000 controllers and only recently began progress on hiring and equipment upgrades, now stalled by the shutdown.

Union leaders warn the crisis could worsen, driving more workers to quit and deterring new recruits. Similar problems during the 35-day 2019 shutdown forced airport terminals to close and flights to be delayed.

ChatGPT will soon allow erotica for verified adults, says OpenAI boss

OpenAI plans to allow a wider range of content, including erotica, on its popular chatbot ChatGPT as part of its push to "treat adult users like adults", says its boss Sam Altman.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Mr Altman said upcoming versions of the popular chatbot would enable it to behave in a more human-like way - "but only if you want it, not because we are usage maxxing". The move, reminiscent of Elon Musk's xAI's recent introduction of two sexually explicit chatbots to Grok, could help OpenAI attract more paying subscribers.

Trump administration looks for ways to pay federal officers during shutdown

The Trump administration is looking for alternative ways to ensure federal law enforcement officers are paid as the government shutdown enters its third week.

With Democrats and Republicans locked in a stalemate over the shutdown, officials in government are exploring alternative ways of paying for some key programmes, including a food programme for women and children. Members of the US military, meanwhile, will be paid using funds previously allocated to the Pentagon following an order from President Donald Trump. Thousands of federal workers have already been laid off, with VicePresident JD Vance warning of further

"painful" cuts should the shutdown continue.

On Tuesday, the Senate voted for an eighth time to fund the government, but failed to advance Republicans' stopgap budget in a 49 to 45 vote.

It is unclear how much money would be necessary to ensure that all federal law enforcement officers are paid.

In response to a query from the BBC, a spokesperson for the Office

of Management and Budget - or OMB - confirmed that it is examining alternative ways to ensure those payments continue.

Like military personnel, federal law enforcement officers are considered "essential" and are still expected to report for duty, even without pay.

They include officers from the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), US Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Separately, on Saturday, Trump wrote on Truth Social that he had directed Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth to use "all available funds" to get members of the military paid on 15 October, when they would have their pay withheld.

Gaza ceasefire at risk after Israel says 1 of 4 bodies returned by Hamas not of any hostage

A fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas faces renewed strain after Israeli officials confirmed that one of four bodies recently returned by Hamas does not correspond to any known Israeli hostage. The bodies were handed over on Tuesday as part of a broader agreement that included the release of 20 living hostages and the return of 28 deceased captives.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated that forensic examinations at the National Institute of Forensic Medicine revealed that the fourth body did not match any of the hostages taken during the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attacks. Three of the bodies—those of Eitan Levy, Uriel Baruch, and Tamir Nimrodi— were positively identified.

Three of the bodies have been identified as those of Eitan Levym, Uriel Baruch and Tamir Nimrodi. However, the remains in the fourth coffin handed over to the Red Cross by Hamas did not match any of the hostages.

This misidentification echoes a similar incident earlier this year when Hamas returned a body claimed to be an Israeli civilian but was later identified as a Palestinian woman. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

Major Russian strikes cut power in Kyiv and across Ukraine

Overnight Russian missile and drone strikes have caused power cuts in large parts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, and eight other regions.\

Kyiv's authorities said power was later restored to more than 540,000 consumers in the city - but many households are still without electricity. Twelve people were injured in the city, said Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko. In the southern Zaporizhzhia region, a sevenyear-old boy was killed and seven others injured. Ten people were also injured in the central Cherkasy region.

Pak-Afghan Ceasefire After Deadly Clashes

China accuses US of 'double standards' over tariff threat

Donald Trump's latest threat to impose an additional 100% tariff on Chinese goods is "a typical example of US double standards", China's government has said.

A commerce ministry spokesperson also said China could introduce its own unspecified "countermeasures" if the US president carries out his threat, adding it was "not afraid" of a possible trade war.

On Friday, Trump hit back at Beijing's move to tighten its rules for rare earths exports, accusing it of "becoming very

hostile" and trying to hold the world "captive". He also threatened to pull out of a meeting with China's President Xi Jinping later this month.

But on Sunday, Trump wrote: "Don't worry about China, it will all be fine!"

"Highly respected President Xi just had a bad moment. He doesn't want Depression for his country, and neither do I. The U.S.A. wants to help China, not hurt it!!!" Trump said in a post on social media, without elaborating further.

Trump's comments on Friday rattled financial markets, with the S&P 500 share index closing down 2.7%, its steepest fall since April.

On Monday, the Shenzhen Composite Index in mainland China closed 0.74% lower, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng shed 1.5%. The president's words renewed fears of a trade war between the US and China.

'Father of our democracy': Kenya's Raila Odinga dies in India aged 80

Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga has died at the age of 80, family sources have told the BBC.

Odinga died on Wednesday while receiving medical treatment at a hospital in India. He collapsed during a morning walk and was taken to Devamatha Hospital, which said he had suffered a cardiac arrest. It said he did not respond to resuscitation measures and was "declared dead at 09:52" local time (04:22

GMT). In recent weeks, there has been speculation about his health, although family members and political allies had dismissed reports suggesting he was critically ill. President William Ruto paid tribute to Odinga as a "beacon of courage" and "father of our democracy".

"Raila Amolo Odinga is truly a oncein-a-generation leader. A man whose ideals transcended politics, and whose legacy will shape the destiny of Kenya for generations to come," Ruto said in a live address to the nation.

A seven-day period of mourning has also been declared. Odinga will be also be accorded a state funeral with full military honours, Ruto said. Other Kenyan politicians and world leaders have been sending their condolences, including IndianPM Modi, who described Odinga as a "towering statesman and a cherished friend of India".

emphasized that the full return of deceased hostages is non-negotiable, stating, “We will not compromise on this and will not stop our efforts until we return the last deceased hostage.”

The misstep has prompted Israel to suspend humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza and threatens to derail the broader ceasefire agreement, which also includes the release of 1,900 Palestinian prisoners.

Hamas, meanwhile, attributes delays in returning all hostages' remains to logistical challenges amid Gaza’s extensive destruction.

The international community, including the United Nations and humanitarian organizations, has expressed concern over the potential collapse of the ceasefire and the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

London became a global hub for phone theft

The scale of the crime has gone beyond the pickpocketing familiar to London since before Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist made it famous.

London has emerged as a global hotspot for mobile phone theft, a trend driven by a combination of high demand for electronics, organized crime, and limited law enforcement resources. In 2024 alone, over 70,000 phones were stolen in the city, accounting for nearly 40% of all mobile thefts in Europe. The rise in thefts is partly due to the lucrative resale market in regions like Shenzhen, China, where stolen devices are often shipped after being concealed in Faraday bags to block tracking signals. Additionally, the prevalence of moped-enabled crimes has made it easier for thieves to snatch phones from pedestrians in busy areas. Despite efforts by the Metropolitan Police, including Operation Carrow targeting international smuggling rings, the scale of the problem persists.

Budget cuts and a focus on more serious crimes have strained resources, allowing phone theft to flourish.

As London grapples with this issue, residents and visitors are advised to remain vigilant, avoid using phones in crowded areas, and report thefts promptly to aid in recovery efforts.

The Patel Motel Story

It begins, as so many immigrant stories do, with a single suitcase and a dream to survive. A story that began in the small lanes of Nadiad, a small town in Gujarat, India and reached the neon-lit highways of America, is now being told with an extraordinary depth and fascinating details. The Patel Motel Story traces a journey that is as improbable as it is inspiring, the story of how one man’s struggle to survive became the foundation of a hotel empire, transforming both American hospitality and the idea of belonging itself.

Directed by Amar Shah, a multiple Emmy-winning writer and producer, and Rahul Rohatgi, an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning filmmaker, the documentary uncovers an untold chapter of immigrant grit. The curious and inspiring tale of how thousands of Patels, bound by shared roots and community spirit, came to own and operate nearly half of America’s motels. But this is not a film about business alone. It is a film about the long, quiet resilience of families who turned “No Vacancy” signs into beacons of opportunity. About children doing homework at motel front desks while their parents worked night shifts. About a man from Gujarat who, with little more than courage, ignited a movement of entrepreneurship that would one day span every corner of the United States.

Amar Shah knows this story intimately as it is, in many ways, his own. The son of immigrants from Nadiad, Shah grew up surrounded by the rhythms of gas station life and the contradictions of assimilation. His 2018 Washington Post essay on his parents’ small business and the cultural legacy of The Simpsons’ Apu went viral, sparking conversations about representation and the immigrant experience. That personal essay later became the basis for his award-winning screenplay GasN-Shop, which won the Harvardwood Writers Competition.

“I wanted to tell this story because it’s ours, the quiet triumphs, the endless work, the laughter, and the loneliness of chasing the American Dream,” Shah says. “The Patel motel story isn’t a story it is fascinating chapter in American history that has sadly been left largely unrecorded and untold.”

His co-director, Rahul Rohatgi, brings a complementary vision to the film, one honed over decades of storytelling across platforms like HBO, NFL Network, and CBS Sports. Rohatgi’s work has taken him from true crime in rural Alaska to scientific explorations

From Nadiad to America

How a Small Community Redefined America’s Hotel Industry

The film is already generating buzz on the festival circuit with upcoming screenings at:

• International South Asian Film Festival of Canada (Vancouver, Sept 28)

• South Asian Film Festival of Orlando (Oct 5)

• Tasveer South Asian Film Festival, Seattle (Oct 11)

• 3rd i Film Festival, San Francisco (Oct 12)

• New Orleans Film Festival (Oct 26)

“I wanted to tell this story because it’s ours, the quiet triumphs, the endless work, the laughter, and the loneliness of chasing the American Dream,” of the human body, but here, he turns his lens toward the immigrant heart.

“It’s a story of building something out of nothing, not just motels, but identity,” he says.

Through evocative interviews, archival photographs, and tender family memories, The Patel Motel Story weaves a narrative that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant. It celebrates the spirit of entrepreneurship born from necessity, the power of community, and the faith that the smallest foothold in a foreign land can become the foundation of an empire. As audiences from Vancouver to New Orleans discover it this fall, The Patel Motel Story stands not just as a chronicle of one community’s success but as a meditation on what it means to belong in America. It’s a love letter to a generation of dreamers from Nadiad who crossed oceans, weathered doubt, and built an empire, one motel at a time.

Lalu Yadav Recalls RJD Poll Symbols After Tejashwi Returns

In a late-night surprise in Bihar politics, several Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders who had received party symbols for the Assembly polls were asked to return them after party patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav and Chief Ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav returned from Delhi. Leaders such as Sunil Singh and former MLA Narendra Kumar Singh had briefly received the symbols in yellow envelopes, only to be recalled hours later. The leadership has not provided a clear reason for the sudden reversal. Some

leaders, like Ashraf Fatmi, claimed that no official symbols were given and alleged that photos circulating on social media were AI-generated. The dramatic development comes amid ongoing seat-sharing negotiations within the Mahagathbandhan, which includes Congress, Left parties, Vikassheel Insaan Party, JMM, and RLJP. Bihar’s Assembly polls are scheduled for November 6 and 11, with nomination deadlines on October 17 and 20 for the two phases, and results set for November 14.

is over in Gaza’: Trump

US President Donald Trump set off for Israel and Egypt on Sunday to mark the US-brokered ceasefire and hostage deal in Gaza between Israel and Hamas as he said the “war is over” in Gaza. Trump would also urge the Middle East allies to seize the opportunity and build a durable peace in the region marred with volatility, AP reported.

Ahead of his departure, Trump, aboard the Air Force One said the ceasefire would hold and a “Board of Peace” would be set-up quickly for Gaza and added that the territory looked like a “demolition site”. Trump praised the role played by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Qatar, one of the mediators.

Israel Frees 7 Hostages from Hamas Amid Gaza Ceasefire

Israel has said that first batch of seven hostages held by Hamas have been released to International Red Cross in northern Gaza in a breakthrough US-backed ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel as Palestinians also await the release of thousands of prisoners, who have been held in Israel. A release of aid to famine-stricken Gaza territory is also expected out of this deal. The two years of war appears to have come to an end after US President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan’s first phase was agreed upon by Israel and Hamas last week during indirect talks in Egypt, alongside mediators including Qatar, Turkey.

The handover of 48 hostages, 20 of whom are believed to be alive, has begun in Gaza after a peace deal was struck between Israel and Hamas in Egypt last week during indirect talks.

The US president is slated to speak with the families of the hostages and address the Israeli parliament, Knesset, according to the White House. Trump will then depart for Egypt, where he is poised to co-chair a global “peace summit” on Monday with regional and international leaders to mark the signing of the ceasefire deal and urge for a long-drawn peace in the region. After the signing of the first phase of the “peace deal”, the Israeli forces withdrew from Gaza City to an agreed yellow line, which paved the way for the hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians to return to their home in Gaza, which mostly appeared as dust-covered ruins.

In her post, Gupta warned others to stay alert, secure valuables, and walk in groups. She noted a recent spike in street robberies and chain snatching around areas like the Loop and Magnificent Mile. Social media users reacted with concern, comparing crime in the US to India and sharing personal experiences of theft abroad. Many urged caution, emphasizing that even in developed countries, public safety is not guaranteed. Gupta’s emotional account has sparked widespread discussion on citizen safety in urban areas.

The ruling poses a significant political setback for RJD ahead of the polls.

Trump Pledges Merit-Based Education,

Ends Anti-American Ideology

US President Donald Trump has unveiled a sweeping plan to reform higher education, targeting what he describes as “woke, socialist, and anti-American ideology” on college campuses. Speaking on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said his administration will restore meritand hard work-based education over “group identity” and hold universities accountable for discriminatory practices. The President criticized American colleges and universities for straying from their historical role as strategic assets, claiming that many now promote ideologies that undermine

youth and society. Under his proposed reforms, institutions found violating federal law on race- or sex-based discrimination in admissions or faculty hiring would face enforcement action. Trump also invited universities willing to comply to enter agreements with the federal government, pledging to uphold civil rights, protect free speech, maintain institutional neutrality, improve affordability, and limit foreign influence in university finances. He emphasized that these measures will foster intellectual openness, highquality standards, and merit-based achievement. According to Trump, the initiative will help develop talented individuals, promote patriotism, and ensure Americans succeed based on demonstrated ability. He framed the reforms as a step toward a “Golden Age of Academic Excellence,” aiming to make the nation safer, more prosperous, and proud of its higher education system.

Israel Backs Trump’s Gaza Ceasefire Blueprint

Israel's Cabinet early Friday approved President Donald Trump's plan for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of all the remaining hostages held by Hamas, a key step toward ending a ruinous two-year war that has

destabilized the Middle East.

A brief statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said the Cabinet approved the “outline” of a deal to release the hostages, without mentioning other aspects of the plan that are more controversial. The broader ceasefire plan included many unanswered questions, such as whether and how Hamas will disarm and who will govern Gaza. But the sides appeared closer than they have been in months to ending a war that has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians, reduced much of Gaza to rubble, brought famine to parts of the territory and left dozens of hostages, living and dead, in Gaza.

The US government has set an annual limit of 65,000 on H-1B visas, with an exemption of 20,000 for individuals with a master's or higher degree from a US university.

those who violate program rules. The proposed changes, possibly published in December 2025, could affect nonprofit research organizations, universities, and healthcare institutions currently exempt from the annual visa cap. Earlier reports suggested replacing the lottery system with a wage-based selection method.

Why H-1B Matters

The H-1B visa allows high-skilled foreign workers—mostly Indians—to work in the US temporarily, often before obtaining a green card. The annual cap is 65,000, with 20,000 additional visas for US master’s degree holders, while some employers remain exempt. Nearly 75% of approved visas in 2023 went to Indians, mainly in IT. H-1B holders are legally guaranteed salaries equal to or higher than US counterparts.

Italy Moves to Ban Burqa, Niqab in Public

Italy’s government, led by PM Giorgia Meloni, has proposed a bill banning face-covering clothing like burqas and niqabs in public spaces. Violators could face fines up to €3,000. The law aims to combat extremism and preserve social cohesion but has drawn criticism from Muslim groups as discriminatory. The legislation has sparked controversy: supporters claim it protects national identity, while opponents, including Muslim organizations, call it discriminatory and a violation of religious freedom. Italy’s Muslim population is estimated at around 500,000.

Perfume Panic: Indian National’s US Visa Revoked

Benton, Arkansas: Indian-origin Kapil Raghu has faced a harrowing legal and personal ordeal after US police mistakenly identified a bottle of designer perfume labeled “Opium” as an illegal drug. The incident took place on May 3, when Benton police stopped Raghu for a minor traffic violation and discovered the bottle in his vehicle. Despite his repeated explanations that it was only perfume, Raghu was arrested on drug possession charges. Subsequent testing by the Arkansas State Crime Lab confirmed that the bottle contained only perfume, not opiates. Nevertheless, Raghu spent three days in local jail before being transferred to federal immigration detention under US ICE, where he was held for 30 days. While the drug charges were formally dropped on May 20, his US visa had already been revoked, placing him on the deportation list. The incident has taken a severe toll on

Raghu and his family, both financially and emotionally. His wife, Ashley Mays, has been working multiple jobs to cover mounting legal expenses, while the family contemplates leaving the US. Raghu has petitioned ICE to reinstate his visa,

arguing that administrative errors and delayed legal filings contributed to the ordeal. The case has sparked concerns about how foreign nationals can be caught in the US legal and immigration system due to misidentifications or bureaucratic oversights.

BROADVIEW, IL – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi was denied entry today by the Trump Administration at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Broadview, Illinois, after arriving to conduct lawful congressional oversight of reported detentions. The attempted visit follows disturbing footage showing a 15-year-old constituent being violently detained by ICE officers in Hoffman Estates, within the Eighth Congressional District. ICE officials refused to allow the Congressman access to the facility.

“I demanded access to the Broadview ICE facility to perform oversight — as is my right and my duty as a Member of Congress,” said Congressman Krishnamoorthi.

“Once again, the Trump Administration slammed the door on transparency and accountability. Congress and the American people have every right to see what’s happening behind those walls.” Today’s denial echoes a similar incident in June, when Congressman Krishnamoorthi and Congressman

Congressman Krishnamoorthi noted that this continued obstruction of lawful oversight undermines accountability, especially as federal enforcement actions have intensified under Operation Midway Blitz — the Trump Administration’s massdeportation campaign targeting Democratic-led cities.

As part of his oversight of ICE activities and reported abuses, Congressman Krishnamoorthi has called for Secretary of Homeland Security Noem to testify before the House Oversight Committee.

Salman Khan Replies to Abhinav Kashyap Remark

The long-standing feud between Salman Khan and Dabangg director Abhinav Kashyap resurfaced during Bigg Boss 19’s latest Weekend Ka Vaar, when Salman addressed Abhinav’s recent remark that he would “get on his knees.” Speaking to comedian Ravi Gupta, Salman criticized Abhinav for targeting not just him but also stars like Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, questioning whether he had secured any work since his previous digs. He added that Abhinav’s habit of speaking ill of everyone has damaged his own reputation and warned him to focus on his family instead of others, emphasizing personal growth, talent, and the guidance of God. Salman recalled that he does get on his knees daily, but only in prayer. The tension dates back to 2020, when Abhinav accused Salman and his family of sabotaging his career, leading to threats of legal action by Arbaaz Khan.

Bombay HC Reviews Shilpa Shetty’s Background Before Travel Clearance

The Bombay High Court has directed the prosecution to verify the family background of actress Shilpa Shetty after she submitted an affidavit seeking permission to travel abroad for a professional engagement. The directive came during the ongoing hearing of Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra’s plea challenging the Look Out Circular (LOC) issued against them by the Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in a Rs 60-crore cheating case.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad heard the matter on Tuesday. It had firmly reiterated that no leisure travel would be allowed while the probe remained active.

Tamannaah Bhatia: More Than Just a ‘Milky Beauty’

Veteran actor Annu Kapoor’s recent remarks describing Tamannaah Bhatia’s “milky body and face” have sparked outrage online — and rightly so. Such comments reduce a versatile performer to her appearance, undermining nearly two decades of hard work, skill, and achievements. Tamannaah’s career, however, stands as proof that she is far more than a superficial label.

1. A Multilingual Star Bridging Cinematic Cultures

Tamannaah’s filmography is not confined to one industry. She has carved a niche across Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi cinema — a rare feat even today. From Happy Days (Telugu) and Paiyaa (Tamil) to Babli Bouncer (Hindi), she’s consistently worked across linguistic and regional boundaries, proving her commitment to storytelling beyond language and geography. Her pan-Indian appeal is rooted in skill, not skin tone.

2. A Performer Who Chooses Depth Over Glamour

Time and again, Tamannaah has broken free from the ornamental heroine stereotype with roles that showcase emotional range and physical transformation

3. Longevity in a Ruthless Industry

Starting her career as a teenager, Tamannaah has remained relevant for nearly two decades — an achievement that speaks volumes about her professionalism, adaptability, and work ethic. In an industry that often sidelines women with time, her steady rise and sustained success prove her lasting impact..

4. Commercial Success Backed by Talent

Tamannaah has not only earned critical acclaim but has also been part of some of Indian cinema’s biggest commercial successes — Baahubali, Ayan, and F2: Fun and Frustration. Her ability to balance mass entertainers with content-driven cinema highlights her understanding of audience sensibilities.

5. Recognized and Honoured for Her Craft

Her work has earned her both critical and institutional recognition: Recipient of the Kalaimamani Award (2010) from the Tamil Nadu government. Saturn Award nominee for Baahubali: The Beginning. SIIMA Best Actress (Critics) for Tadakha (2013). Honorary Doctorate from the Confederation of International Accreditation Commission (CIAC).

6. A Modern, Multi-Hyphenate Woman

Beyond films, Tamannaah has diversified her career with entrepreneurial and creative ventures. She launched her jewelry label Wite & Gold, co-authored a wellness book Back to Roots, and invested in SUGAR Cosmetics. Her active presence on OTT platforms with Jee Karda and Aakhri Sach — both of which earned her the Best Actor of the Year (Female) award at the Bollywood Hungama OTT India Fest — further proves her evolving artistry

Siddhant Chaturvedi’s Ramree Dropped Over Budget Issues

After earning acclaim for his performance in Dhadak 2, Siddhant Chaturvedi seemed set to continue his momentum with Ramree, a two-hero OTT project backed by Ajay Devgn. However, the ambitious period drama has now reportedly been shelved before going on floors. According to a report by Mid-Day, Ramree was conceived as a large-scale film set in 1945. The project, which had been under development for over a year, aimed to blend historical events with cinematic storytelling. However, given its elaborate setting and production requirements, the film’s mounting budget became a major hurdle.

Centre Distances Itself From Taliban Presser Row

The press conference was held on Friday at the Afghanistan Embassy in New Delhi. It, however, did not see any presence of women.

New Delhi: India on Saturday said it had “no role to play” in the controversial Taliban press conference in Delhi that barred women journalists. The Ministry of External Affairs clarified that the Afghan Consul General in Mumbai sent the invites, and the event was held on Afghan Embassy premises — outside Indian jurisdiction. The exclusion of female reporters triggered outrage online, with many calling it an insult to Indian women. Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and P. Chidambaram slammed the government, demanding accountability. Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during his visit. India announced it would upgrade its Kabul technical mission to a full-fledged embassy, reaffirming commitment to Afghanistan’s development.

Taslima Nasreen Slams Taliban Over Women Ban

New Delhi: Bangladesh's exiled writer Taslima Nasreen has slammed Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi for not allowing women journalists to attend a press conference in Delhi on Friday. Nasreen, who escaped from Bangladesh in 1994, said the Taliban "refuse to grant women human rights because they do not consider women to be human."

She also criticised male journalists who attended the Afghan leader's press conference in Delhi, saying they would have walked out if they had any conscience.

"The Afghan Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, has come to India and

Under the "Taliban 2.0" regime that took power in August 2021, Afghan women and girls face what the UN calls the most severe women's rights crisis in the world

held a press conference. However, he did not allow any female journalists to attend. In Islam as practiced by the Taliban, women are expected only to stay at home, bear children, and serve their husbands and children," Nasreen said in a post on X. These misogynistic men do not want to see women anywhere outside the home - not in schools, not in workplaces. They refuse to grant women human rights because they do not consider women to be human. If the male journalists had any conscience, they would have walked out of the press conference. A state built on vile misogyny is a barbaric state - and no civilised nation should recognize it," the Bangladeshi author said.

Trump threatens to impose additional 100% tariff on China

US President Donald Trump has said he would impose an additional 100% tariff on imports from China from next month. In a post on social media, Trump said the US would also put export controls on critical software. In an earlier post on Friday, he hit back at Beijing's move this week to tighten its

rules for exports of rare earths, accusing China of "becoming very hostile" and trying to hold the world "captive". He threatened to pull out of a meeting with China's President Xi Jinping. He later said he had not cancelled it, but that he did not know "that we're going to have it". "I'm going to be there regardless," he told reporters at the White House.

Financial markets dropped in the wake of Trump's remarks, with the S&P 500 closing down 2.7%, its steepest fall since April.China dominates production of rare earths and certain other key materials, which are key components in cars, smartphones and many other items.

Maria Corina Machado Wins 2025 Nobel Peace Prize

Trump administration starts laying off thousands of workers

The Trump administration has begun laying off thousands of federal workers in an effort to pressure Democrats amid the ongoing government shutdown.

"The RIFs have begun," White House Office of Management Director Russell Vought announced in a post on X on Friday morning, referring to an acronym for "reductions in force".

A spokesman for his office confirmed the cuts had started and were "substantial". Their size and scope began coming into focus later on Friday, when the administration disclosed seven agencies had started laying off more than 4,000 workers.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to use the shutdown to further his long-held goal of reducing the federal workforce. By law, the federal government must

give its workers at least 30-days notice that it is laying them off.

After Vought's tweet, major departments such as Treasury and Health and Human Services (HHS) confirmed they were issuing notices to employees, and Homeland Security,

where many of its employees are considered essential, said it would lay off workers at its Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. On Friday, once he said the process had begun, they asked a federal court in Northern California to temporarily block the move.

Bad Weather = Great Delivery Days. Partner With DoorDash Now

It's Tuesday afternoon. Rain is pounding the windows. You're standing in your store, watching the empty parking lot turn into a river. The only sound? The hum of your coolers and that drip from the ceiling you keep meaning to fix. Zero customers in the last two hours.

This is the brutal reality every independent retailer knows: bad weather kills foot traffic. Studies show walk-in customers drop by 40-60% during storms. Snow, rain, extreme heat - they all mean the same thing. Empty aisles, silent registers.

But here's what really stings: you're still paying full rent. The lights are on. Your employee is scrolling their phone, fully paid with nothing to do. You're burning money to keep an empty store open. Meanwhile, everyone in your neighborhood is home right now, thirsty, hungry, wanting exactly what you sell. They're just not willing to drive in this weather.

Want to know the worst part? While you're watching raindrops race down your window, your competitor three blocks away is slammed. Orders are pouring in through their DoorDash tablet. They're fulfilling back-to-back deliveries. Your regular customers - the ones who usually buy their weekend beverages from you - are discovering your competitor on DoorDash right now. And once they find a store that delivers in bad weather, why would they ever get back in their car? Every storm without delivery isn't just a bad day. It's training YOUR customers to shop somewhere else. The Game-Changer: Bad Weather = Delivery Gold Here's what changes everything: Bad weather doesn't kill demand - it just changes how people want to shop. When customers won't drive to your store, delivery becomes their only option. Without it, you're invisible on the worst sales days of the year. Think about it. People are home, cozy on their couch, phone in one hand, credit card in the other. They want convenience, and they want it now. Bad weather doesn't kill their thirst or cravings. It just makes them value delivery even more.

Let me paint you a picture with real numbers. Your typical rainy Tuesday? Maybe $500 in sales, down from your usual $1,200. Painful, right? Now imagine that same rainy Tuesday WITH DoorDash integration through your NRS POS: $500 from the die-hard customers who still came in, PLUS $800 in delivery orders. That's $1,300. You didn't just recover - you BEAT your normal day.

The beautiful part? You don't need extra staff. Orders flow automatically through your NRS system. Your existing employee who was doing nothing? Now they're picking and packing orders. Same payroll, triple the productivity. T he orders just appear on your screen, already paid for. Pack them up, DoorDash driver grabs them, done. Remember last week's storm that destroyed your sales? That could've been one of your best days. Saturday's forecast showing thunderstorms? That's not a disaster anymore - it's an opportunity. The psychology is simple: bad weather makes people willing to pay MORE for convenience. They'll pay delivery fees without blinking. They tip better because they appreciate the service. And here's the kicker - they become repeat customers. Once someone discovers they can get your products delivered, they'll order again on the next rainy day. And the next regular day when they're too busy. And Friday night when they're having friends over.

UChicago Professor Faces Felony Over ICE Protest

CHICAGO, IL -A University of Chicago associate professor, Eman Abdelhadi, was arrested on October 3 and charged with multiple felonies linked to protests at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Broadview, Illinois. According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Abdelhadi faces two counts of aggravated battery to a government employee and two counts of resisting or obstructing a peace officer. She was released after her initial court appearance and is scheduled to appear again on Tuesday. The university confirmed her faculty position but did not issue further comment. The arrest follows weeks of demonstrations outside the Broadview ICE center, where protesters have reportedly blocked government vehicles and clashed with law enforcement, resulting in several arrests. Social media posts from Abdelhadi’s X (formerly Twitter) account show her presence at the protest and critical comments toward state authorities, accusing them of “enforcing Trump’s agenda.” In a podcast interview a day before her arrest, Abdelhadi described ICE as “terrorizing our communities” and defended her participation in the protests, saying it was essential to oppose government actions “in our backyard.”

Abdelhadi, who also organizes with Faculty and Staff for Justice in Palestine, has been outspoken on political issues, including her criticism of U.S. policy, Israel, and her own institution. Earlier this year, she made headlines for denouncing the University of Chicago during the Socialism 2025 conference, calling it a “colonial landlord” while acknowledging it as a platform from which she could “build power.” Her public comments and social media activity reflect a broader activist stance linking immigration, anti-colonial, and pro-Palestinian movements.

According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Abdelhadi faces two counts of aggravated battery to a government employee and two counts of resisting or obstructing a peace officer.

Indian Student’s Death Leads to Murder Charge for Suspect

FORT WORTH, TX

— A 23-year-old man, identified as Richard Florez of North Richland Hills, has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of 28-yearold Indian student Chandrashekar Pole during a robbery at a Fort Worth gas station on the night of October 3.

According to the Fort Worth Police Department, officers responded around 8:45 p.m. to reports of a robbery at the Fort Worth Express gas station on Eastchase Parkway. Upon arrival, officers found Pole suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Florez fled immediately after the shooting and later fired multiple rounds into an occupied vehicle about a mile away. No injuries were reported from that incident. Shortly after, several 911 callers reported that a man matching the suspect’s description had crashed through a metal gate and

Lawmakers Urge Trump to Mend India Ties Amid GOP Silence

WASHINGTON, DC – On October 7, several U.S. lawmakers urged President Donald Trump to “reset and repair” the India-U.S. partnership, citing damage caused by his administration’s tariff hikes. The letter, signed by Democratic leaders including Deborah Ross, Ro Khanna, Brad Sherman, Sydney Kamlager-Dove, Raja Krishnamoorthi, and Pramila Jayapal, noted that tariffs of up to 50 percent on Indian goods have strained relations and hurt both American consumers and manufacturers.

Representing districts with large IndianAmerican communities, the lawmakers emphasized India’s importance as a strategic and economic partner, calling for renewed dialogue and a review of the tariff policy. They warned that the trade conflict has raised prices for U.S. consumers, disrupted supply chains, and jeopardized jobs dependent on India-U.S. trade. The letter stressed that this partnership supports innovation, defense cooperation, and global competitiveness while serving as a counterbalance to China’s growing influence. Highlighting India’s role in the Quad alliance and shared democratic values, the lawmakers urged the administration to reaffirm America’s commitment to India, noting that “the path forward demands recalibration, not confrontation.” Notably, no Republican lawmakers signed the appeal.

attempted to break into a nearby home.

Responding officers located and arrested Florez at that location after a woman reported someone trying to enter her residence.

Investigators recovered a firearm from the suspect’s vehicle.

Authorities said Florez was transported to a hospital for unspecified injuries before being booked into custody.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Chandrashekar Pole, a University of North Texas student originally from Hyderabad, India. Pole had earned a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree in India before moving to the United States in 2023 to pursue higher education.

Friends said he completed his master’s degree about six months ago and had been working part-time at the gas station while seeking full-time employment in his professional field

Sewa Women’s Cricket: Sport, Community & Charity

ATLANTA, GA -On September 21, Rock Mill Park came alive with energy and enthusiasm as more than 100 spectators gathered for the Sewa International Women’s Cricket Tournament — a spirited celebration of women’s sports, community, and compassion.

The event was organized by Neetu Chauhan and Vijay Vaghela, with strong support from Vijay G, Manoj Sharma, Srikanth Tirumala, Praveen Lambade, Sai, and Jitendra Singh. All proceeds benefited the Sewa ASPIRE Program, which supports K–8 education in underserved communities.

Five outstanding teams — Firebirds, Dazz Sports Desi Smashers, Fullcity Wonder Women, Supernovas, and BMP Strikers — took the field in an electrifying display of teamwork and talent. Despite the 80–85°F heat, the players showed unwavering passion and determination, thrilling the crowd with every boundary, wicket, and cheer over six hours of high-spirited competition.

The tournament was officially inaugurated by Vikas Arora, Southeast Regional Director of Sewa International, whose presence added distinction to the event.

It was truly a family affair — children enthusiastically offered water and snacks to players between innings, and families rallied together in a heartwarming show of community spirit.

In an exciting final, the Firebirds soared to victory over the Dazz Sports Desi Smashers, who earned a proud runnerup spot. Yet, beyond the scoreboard, the day’s greatest achievement was the empowerment, unity, and joy shared by everyone present.

The event’s success extended far beyond cricket — it made a tangible difference through its charitable mission, supporting education and uplifting young minds.

Hindus Seek WK Kellogg Apology for Hidden Beef Ingredient

RENO, NV -Hindus are demanding an official apology from American food manufacturer WK Kellogg Co for allegedly failing to disclose the use of beef-derived ingredients in some of its popular products.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement issued in Nevada, expressed shock that certain Kellogg’s cereals—including Kellogg’s Frosted Mini-Wheats, long consumed by Hindus worldwide—contain beefderived gelatin, even though the source of gelatin is not explicitly stated on the product’s ingredient labels.

Zed, who serves as President of the Universal Society of Hinduism, said the company’s consumer affairs representative confirmed to him that “gelatin derived from beef” is used in all varieties of Kellogg’s Frosted MiniWheats cereals.

Judge Sentences Diddy, Urges Him to Turn His Influence Toward Good

NEW YORK, NY — “You abused them — physically, emotionally, and psychologically,” Judge Arun Subramanian declared to Sean “Diddy” Combs in a Manhattan courtroom on October 3, before sentencing the hiphop mogul to 50 months in prison for two prostitution-related convictions. “Why did it happen for so long? Because you had the power and resources to keep it going — and because you didn’t get caught.”

Combs, 54, will serve roughly 36 more months behind bars after credit for time served. He was fined $500,000 and will face five years of supervised release upon completion of his sentence.

Subramanian’s stern remarks underscored that fame and fortune would not protect Combs from justice. He dismissed the defense’s portrayal of Combs’ so-called “freak offs” as consensual or harmless, stating: “These were not ‘sex, drugs, and rock ’n’ roll’ stories. In a society where sexual

violence is rampant, a strong sentence must signal that abuse against women brings real accountability.”

The judge continued, “You may feel you are in a dark place, but your violence, coercion, and manipulation caused devastating harm to women who loved and depended on you.” Acknowledging numerous letters of support, he added, “You and your family will get through this. There is light at the end of the tunnel.”

Before adjourning, Subramanian challenged Combs to use his influence for good: “You have a megaphone. Use it to help survivors of domestic violence.”

Turning to the victims — including Casandra “Cassie” Ventura and another woman identified as “Jane” — he said, “To Ms. Ventura and the other brave survivors: we heard you. Your families, your children, and this court are proud of you for standing up and telling the world what happened.”

Earlier, Combs apologized to his former partners, calling his actions “disgusting, shameful, and sick.” But Subramanian closed with a stark reminder: “Nothing about this case is good — except for the victims who came forward.”

Indian-Origin Walmart Worker Charged in Cash Theft

WARRINGTON, PA. — An 18-year-old Warrington resident has been charged following an investigation into an alleged employee theft at the Walmart store on Easton Road, according to the Warrington Township Police Department.

Police said that on October 4, 2025, officers responded to the Walmart location after receiving a report from loss prevention staff who suspected an employee of stealing cash from a register.

Following an investigation, officers allege that Rudra Raju Patel, 18, had taken $750 in cash earlier that day and a total of $960 over several days.

Patel was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Warrington Township Police Department for processing. He has been charged with theft by unlawful taking and was later released pending further court proceedings.

Authorities emphasized that all charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

ICE’s Multimillion-Dollar Ads to Hire 10,000 New Officers to Boost Deportation Ranks

SACRAMENTO, CA— U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is investing millions of dollars in television advertising across select metropolitan areas in an effort to recruit local law enforcement officers into President Donald Trump’s mass deportation campaign. The Associated Press found that the ads are aimed at officers frustrated by city policies restricting cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. The commercials feature stark imagery of ICE agents making arrests and city skylines, with a narrator urging officers: “You took an oath to protect and serve... But in sanctuary cities, you’re ordered to stand down while dangerous illegals walk free.”

The ad campaign, airing in more than a dozen cities including Chicago, Seattle, and Atlanta, is part of a $30 billion initiative to hire 10,000 additional deportation officers by year’s end — a major expansion under the Trump

administration’s immigration agenda. This initiative forms part of a larger $76.5 billion funding request for ICE, representing a tenfold increase over its existing budget. To attract recruits,

ICE is offering signing bonuses of up to $50,000 and tuition reimbursement as part of an aggressive hiring push. Despite parts of the federal government being shut down due to congressional gridlock, ICE’s campaign demonstrates that funding for mass deportation efforts remains intact and well-supported. According to ad-tracking data from AdImpact, the 30-second spots began airing in mid-September in cities such as Boston, Denver, New York, Sacramento, and Washington, D.C., later expanding to southern cities including Dallas, Houston, and Miami. Spending on the campaign has exceeded $6.5 million, with Seattle seeing the highest outlay since September, and Atlanta leading recent spending at nearly $1 million in a single week. ICE has not publicly explained why these particular cities were targeted, though many are known for their sanctuary policies that limit local cooperation with immigration authorities. Department of Homeland Security officials have

declined to elaborate beyond a press release citing 150,000 applications and 18,000 tentative job offers since the campaign began.

In several targeted cities, local officials have openly opposed the administration’s immigration enforcement tactics. Boston and Chicago, for example, have long been at odds with the federal government over immigration cooperation limits. Albuquerque’s mayor, Tim Keller, recently signed an order prohibiting city employees from assisting ICE unless legally required. In Texas, where four markets are part of the ad rollout, San Antonio’s police union president expressed concern that local departments may lose recruits to ICE’s lucrative incentives. Meanwhile, law enforcement leaders like Philadelphia’s Capt. John Walker suggested that the ads serve as much to reassure voters as to recruit officers — portraying a government taking visible action amid broader struggles to fill police ranks nationwide.

Cash Boost for Schools Enforcing Phone-Free Days

NEW JERSEY - New Jersey is offering grants to public school districts that adopt strict “bell-to-bell” cellphone bans for students in grades 6–12. Announced October 1, the Phone-Free Schools Grant Program will reward districts that prohibit cellphone use throughout the entire school day, from the first to the last bell. The initiative follows a state commission’s recommendation urging all schools to curb students’ access to cellphones and social media during class hours.

To qualify, districts must require students to store internet-enabled devices upon arrival and retrieve them only at dismissal. This is a more stringent standard than most current policies, which often allow phones during lunch or in hallways. Grants start at $500, though the state has not specified a maximum amount or total number of awards. Applications are due October 31.

Funds can be used for secure storage solutions—such as locked pouches, bins, or lockers—and for training staff to implement the policy consistently and fairly. The state memo clarifies that only full-day bans qualify: partial restrictions like “Off and Away” or “Limited Use”

policies are ineligible.

While there is no statewide law on cellphone use in schools, the program aims to encourage uniform restrictions amid concerns that constant access to digital devices harms learning and social behavior. The Commission on the Effects of Social Media Usage in Adolescents recently reported that social media exposure contributes to academic distraction, anxiety, and bullying—especially when accessed through mobile devices during school hours.

Some districts have already adopted similar approaches. Ramsey High School in Bergen County requires students to seal their phones in Yondr pouches—lockable fabric cases opened only at day’s end. Meanwhile, Jersey City Public Schools, the state’s second-largest district, recently mandated phones be off or in airplane mode during class but stopped short of a full-day ban.

New Jersey’s program reflects a growing national movement questioning whether unrestricted cellphone use undermines student focus and wellbeing. With the new grants, state leaders hope more districts will create structured, distraction-free learning environments—prioritizing face-toface interaction over screen time.

LA County Declares Diwali Holiday Under Hahn’s Lead

OS ANGELES, CA – Supervisor Janice Hahn has once again led the effort to bring Diwali celebrations to Los Angeles County. The Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved her motion to officially recognize Diwali, the Festival of Lights, for the fourth consecutive year. “Diwali is meaningful for thousands of families across Los Angeles County, and it’s important for the government to recognize that,” Hahn said in a statement.

She added, “I’m proud to have led this

effort for our Hindu, Sikh, Jain, and Buddhist communities. More than ever, we can find hope in Diwali’s message— that light will triumph over darkness and good will triumph over evil.”

Hahn first introduced the motion in 2022, when the county marked its inaugural recognition of Diwali. Her district includes Artesia, home to ‘Little India,’ a vibrant hub of Indian-owned shops, restaurants, and community organizations that have long served as a cultural anchor for South Asian Angelenos.

Illinois Lawmakers Demand Justice After Deadly ICE Raids; Krishnamoorthi Leads the Charge

SCHAUMBURG, IL — Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) joined Congresswoman Robin Kelly (D-IL) and other members of the Illinois congressional delegation in urging the Inspectors General of the U.S. Departments of Justice (DOJ) and Homeland Security (DHS) to launch full and independent investigations into recent immigration enforcement operations and fatal shootings by federal agents in Illinois.

The lawmakers’ letter comes amid rising alarm over “Operation Midway Blitz,” a federal enforcement campaign initiated under the Trump administration that has resulted in heavily armed raids and violent confrontations across the state.

“Over the past few months, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has conducted unprecedented raids throughout the nation, including within our home state of Illinois, frightening and injuring community members,” the lawmakers wrote.

“We request that the DOJ Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the DHS OIG conduct full and independent investigations of those enforcement actions and report to Congress on the

The lawmakers’ letter comes amid rising alarm over “Operation Midway Blitz,” a federal enforcement campaign initiated under the Trump administration that has resulted in heavily armed raids and violent confrontations across the state

status of those investigations.”

The letter identifies several specific incidents for investigation, including:

The October 1 South Shore Raid: A joint operation involving ICE, CBP, FBI, and ATF agents deployed flashbang grenades, helicopters, and drones

to storm an apartment complex— detaining residents, including U.S. citizens, and arresting Alderwoman Jessie Fuentes while she was visiting a hospital patient injured during the operation.

Council Moves to Oust Langevin Over Anti-India Remark

PALM BAY, FL — A tense Palm Bay City Council meeting on October 2 drew an overflow crowd of angry residents and business leaders demanding the removal of Councilman Chandler Langevin. The outrage stemmed from Langevin’s social media posts calling for the deportation of Indian Americans— remarks that many described as racist and deeply offensive. According to NBC affiliate WESH, hundreds packed the council chambers and surrounding areas, with dozens stepping forward to condemn Langevin’s words. His comments, including “Deport every Indian immediately” and “There’s not a single Indian that cares about the United States,” were met with calls for his immediate resignation. Speakers during the meeting expressed disgust and disappointment. One resident declared, “He has disrespected Palm Bay, Brevard County, the state of Florida, and our nation. Get this cancer removed.” Another criticized his behavior as an example of “hate, racism, and white supremacy.” Preshant Patel, president of the Indian American Business Association Chamber, reminded the council of the Indian American community’s economic and civic contributions, noting that they make up just over 1% of the population but contribute roughly 5–6% of U.S. income tax revenue. He urged the council to act swiftly to hold Langevin accountable. Langevin, however, refused to apologize or resign. Speaking from the council dais, he dismissed the criticism, saying, “As far as resigning, you can vote for the letter tonight. I hope you do. It’s going to be worthless. I’m going to be here for another three years. Get used to it.” On social media, he doubled down, insisting that his statements were misunderstood and claiming they referred only to illegal immigration. But his later posts further inflamed tensions, including one directed at local community leader Amar Patel, where Langevin wrote, “There are Americans with Indian descent—they are Americans, not Indian Americans. You can’t be both.”

Following nearly four hours of public comment, the council voted 4–1 to send a formal letter to Governor Ron DeSantis requesting Langevin’s suspension, with Langevin casting the lone dissenting vote. The letter, sent October 3, stated that while he was entitled to free speech, “the manner in which he exercised his rights constitutes misfeasance and incompetence.” Langevin mocked the decision online, portraying it as a political stunt. As of now, Governor DeSantis has not publicly responded to the council’s request.

Fatal and Injurious Shootings: The September 12 fatal shooting of Silverio Villegas Gonzalez in Franklin Park by an ICE agent, and the October 4 shooting of a woman in Brighton Park by a Border Patrol agent. In both incidents, DHS statements reportedly contradicted available surveillance footage and eyewitness accounts.

The lawmakers have requested that federal inspectors general review these incidents in detail, including: Compliance with body-worn camera policies

Interagency coordination during joint enforcement operations

The overall conduct and oversight of “Operation Midway Blitz” activities in Illinois

They further called for a congressional briefing by October 24 to update members on the status of any ongoing investigations. In addition to Reps. Krishnamoorthi and Kelly, the letter was signed by Illinois Representatives Jesús G. “Chuy” García (IL-04), Delia Ramirez (IL-03), Brad Schneider (IL10), Danny K. Davis (IL-07), Jonathan Jackson (IL-01), Bill Foster (IL-11), Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Sean Casten (IL06), Eric Sorensen (IL-17), and Mike Quigley (IL-05).
