Mamdani seals remarkable victorybut real challenges await

Zohran Mamdani has made history by winning the New York City mayoral race, becoming the city’s youngest mayor since 1892, its first Muslim mayor, and its first African-born leader. The 34-yearold Democrat defeated former governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa in a stunning victory that signals a shift within the party’s progressive ranks. With little name recognition and no major backing, Mamdani’s campaign focused on left-wing causes such as free childcare, expanded public transport, and stronger public services — themes that resonated with younger and working-class voters. His win has been celebrated as a triumph for the Democratic left but also raises questions about his ability to govern in a city dominated by corporate power and centrist politics. Governor Kathy

Abigail Spanberger Becomes Virginia’s First Woman Governor

Democrat Abigail Spanberger has won the race for Virginia governor after a closely watched election which her party hopes could signal a national trend. With almost all the votes counted, the former congresswoman and CIA officer has defeated the state's Republican Lieutenant Governor Winsome EarleSears. Virginia's leadership usually swings between Democrats and Republicans, meaning the outcome might serve as a bellwether for the electorate's mood going into next year's midterm elections.

Trump Mocks Xi’s Fearful Officials

In a meeting with Republican senators at a White House breakfast on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump recounted his bilateral meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping and his officials. He described how there were six officials on either side of Xi, and all of them were standing straight. "And every one of those people were standing like this," Trump said, with his arms behind his back and his chin up. "They were at attention."

Hochul has already voiced opposition to new taxes needed to fund Mamdani’s ambitious plans. He will also need to

balance his progressive agenda with the interests of New York’s powerful business community.

Critics have warned that his socialist

Sam Joshi Re-Elected Edison Mayor

Edison, NJ : Edison Mayor Sam Joshi secured a decisive re-election victory on Tuesday (November 4), achieving the township’s largest margin of success in more than three decades. Since first announcing his candidacy four years ago, Joshi has championed a

philosophy of “good governance over politics,” prioritizing residents’ needs above partisan agendas. In his first term, Joshi held 466 community meetings and spearheaded numerous local improvements, efforts that resonated strongly with Edison voters. In a municipality historically defined by sharp political divisions and close elections, Joshi’s commanding win signaled a rare moment of unity— bringing together Democrats, Independents, and Republicans alike.

“Edison residents spoke loud and clear about my approach,” Joshi said on Tuesday following his victory. “I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve as your mayor for another four years.”

Supreme Court Grills Trump Tariffs

President Donald Trump's use of sweeping tariffs faced sharp questioning at the Supreme Court on Wednesday, in a case with major implications for the president's agenda and the global economy.

A majority of justices, including several conservatives, expressed doubts about the White House's justification of the import duties, which the president has said are necessary to restore America's manufacturing base and

fix its trade imbalance. The measures are being challenged by a number of small businesses and a group of states, which contend that the president has overstepped his authority in imposing the levies, which are in effect a tax.

America's top court - which has a 6-3 conservative majority - usually takes months to reach big decisions, but many expect it to move faster in this case, which is also seen as the first major test of the Trump administration's push to expand presidential power.

"And so is it your contention that every country needed to be tariffed because of threats to the defense and industrial base? I mean, Spain? France?" asked Amy Coney Barrett, who was appointed to the court by Trump."I could see it with some countries but explain to me why as many countries needed to be subject to the reciprocal tariff policy as are."

Critics have warned that his socialist leanings could alienate moderates, while conservatives, including Donald Trump, are likely to use him as a foil for national attacks on the Democratic Party.

leanings could alienate moderates, while conservatives, including Donald Trump, are likely to use him as a foil for national attacks on the Democratic Party. For now, Mamdani’s victory represents a generational and ideological shift in New York politics. Yet the real test begins when he takes office in January — turning his vision into policy while managing expectations in America’s most scrutinized city.

7 Dead After UPS Cargo Plane Crashes in Kentucky

At least seven people were killed when a UPS cargo plane crashed while taking off from an airport in Louisville, Kentucky on Tuesday evening, the state's governor said. Andy Beshear said the plane's three crew members were likely to be among the dead after the freight plane exploded as it departed Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport at around 17:15 local time (22:15 GMT).

At least 11 other people were injured when the plane crashed, sending thick plumes of black smoke into the sky. Officials warned that people suffered "very significant" injuries in the incident and the death toll could rise.

US Warns of Flight Cuts Amid Shutdown

Transportation

Secretary Sean Duffy warned there will be a 10% reduction in air travel capacity at 40 major airports in the US starting Friday morning, if the government shutdown continues. The decision was made because air traffic controllers have been reporting issues with fatigue, the head of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said at a briefing with Duffy on Wednesday."It is unusual, just as the shutdown is unusual, just as the fact that our controllers haven't been paid for a month is unusual," said FAA chief Bryan Bedford

Palestinian Minister Says India "Potential Bridge-Builder" For Peace In Gaza

New Delhi:

Palestinian Foreign Minister Dr Varsen Shahin has lauded India’s growing diplomatic and humanitarian role in the Middle East, calling it a “trusted friend and potential bridgebuilder for peace” between Israel and Palestine.

She said India’s tradition of balanced diplomacy and moral leadership could be vital in reviving the two-state solution. Recalling New Delhi’s early recognition of the Palestine Liberation Organization and its historic support at the United Nations, Shahin praised India’s “meaningful development” work in the region.

“When I walk through Ramallah, I see India’s footprint in schools, clinics, and tech hubs,” she said, describing friendship with India as “historical, not seasonal.”

With Gaza devastated after months

Trump Calls Prince Andrew’s Title Loss Over Epstein Ties “Tragic”

US President Donald Trump on Sunday said he felt "badly" for the UK royal family after King Charles stripped his younger brother Andrew of his titles and forced him out of the Windsor home over his links to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

"It's a terrible thing that's happened to the family. That's been a tragic situation, and it's too bad. I mean, I feel badly for the family," Trump said.

Bangladesh Blocks Zakir Naik’s Entry Amid

Rising Controversy

Bangladesh has decided to temporarily bar Indian-born Islamic preacher Zakir Naik from entering the country. The decision was made on Tuesday during a meeting of the Law and Order Core Committee at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Dhaka.

According to officials from the Home Ministry in Dhaka, a local organisation had invited Naik to attend a two-day event scheduled for November 28 and 29 in Dhaka, with plans for him to travel to other parts of the country as well. His

potential visit, however, has been under review for several days amid strong reactions by a section of the society.

During Tuesday's meeting, officials concluded that Naik's presence would likely attract massive crowds, requiring a significant deployment of law enforcement personnel. Given the current pre-election situation, security forces are already heavily engaged in ensuring a peaceful national poll. As a result, authorities decided that Naik's visit could only be considered after the elections are over. Zakir Naik has long been a controversial figure. In 2016, following the deadly terrorist attack on the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka, Indian authorities accused him of promoting extremism and delivering inflammatory speeches. Naik fled India soon after and has since been residing in Malaysia, where he was granted permanent residency in Putrajaya.

relocate to an alternative private accommodation on the Sandringham Estate in eastern England.Additionally, the UK government said it would move to strip the former royal of his honorary title of vice-admiral, his last remaining military rank. Andrew was stripped of his honorary military titles by his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, in 2022 after he was sued by Virginia Giuffre, Epstein's main accuser.

"We've seen Andrew surrender the honorary positions he's had throughout the military. Guided again by the King, we are working now to remove that last remaining title of vice-admiral that he has," UK defence minister John Healey said.

Shahin said India's history of balanced diplomacy and moral leadership could be pivotal in reviving the twostate solution.

and health. She endorsed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stance that “this is not an era of war,” urging India to use its influence to restore peace talks.

Addressing India’s ties with Israel, Shahin said Palestine views them as an opportunity, not a threat. “India can be a credible mediator guided by international law and human rights,” she said.

Condemning terrorism everywhere, Shahin stressed that true peace requires justice, dialogue, and political unity. “India can help shape the peace of tomorrow—not by choosing sides, but by choosing justice.”

Pakistan Bars 14 Indian Hindus From Entry On Guru Nanak Jayanti

New Delhi: Fourteen Indian citizens initially allowed entry by Pakistan –part of a group of pilgrims travelling to Nankana Sahib, Sikhism founder Guru Nanak's birthplace, to celebrate his 556th birth anniversary – were sent back after officials reportedly snubbed them as Hindus and not Sikhs. The 14 were reportedly part of around 2,100 people whom the Union Home Ministry had cleared to visit Pakistan. Islamabad had issued travel documents

to approximately the same number. On Tuesday an estimated 1,900 people entered Pak via the Wagah border crossing, marking the first people-topeople contact since Operation Sindoor, the four-day military conflict in May. But, it has now emerged that 14 of them, Hindu pilgrims – all of whom were Pakistani-born Sindhis who have obtained Indian citizenship looking to meet relatives there – were sent back. the 14 were told 'you are Hindu… you can't go with Sikh devotees'. Sources said the 14 included people from Delhi and Lucknow, and that they walked back 'humiliated' after Pak officials said only people tagged in their records as Sikh would be allowed. Apart from this, 300 people who had applied for visas independently were turned back at the India side of the border because they did not have the requisite Home Ministry approval.

After sealing a groundbreaking win, Zohran Mamdani took to X with a message that captured the weight of the moment, "Thank you, New York City. Together we made history. Now let's get to work." The 32-year-old Democratic socialist, who currently represents Queens in the state assembly, is now set to become the first Muslim and South Asian and the youngest person in over 100 years to lead America's largest city.

Less than 24 hours after his historic win, Mamdani announced an allfemale transition team to guide his incoming administration. Led by political strategist Elana Leopold, the five-member team includes prominent leaders such as Lina Khan, former Federal Trade Commission chair; Melanie Hartzog, ex–NYC deputy mayor; Grace Bonilla, president and CEO of United Way of New York City; and Maria Torres-Springer, former First Deputy Mayor and housing policy veteran.Calling his team “capable, compassionate, and driven by integrity,” Mamdani said the group will help build a City Hall that delivers on his campaign promises.

Trump Unleash ICE Raids in New York?

New York has made history by electing its first Muslim mayor, Zohran Mamdani — but his victory may trigger a fierce political storm with former President Donald Trump. In the weeks leading up to the election, Trump attacked the 34-year-old Democrat relentlessly, calling him a “radical socialist” and warning that if Mamdani won, New York would lose billions in federal funding.

Now that Mamdani has secured a decisive win, speculation is growing that Trump may retaliate by expanding federal immigration enforcement across New York City, mirroring the mass raids already underway in Illinois. Political observers believe Trump could deploy ICE and Border Patrol agents more

Gujarati Asylum Seeker Held for Voter Fraud in US

A 47-year-old Gujarati man living in Pennsylvania has been arrested for allegedly registering and voting illegally in the 2020 U.S. elections. Federal prosecutors say Kaushal Patel, who had sought asylum in the U.S. to obtain a green card, falsely claimed to be a U.S. citizen while completing a voter registration form in October 2020. He is accused of voting in the November 2020 election in South Whitehall Township.

Pennsylvania's Kaushal Patel Charged for Illegal Voting

Court documents show Patel faces multiple federal charges, including false claim of citizenship, fraudulent voter registration, fraudulent voting, and voting by a non-citizen. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison and deportation. Patel’s attorney, Philip Steinberg, said his client has lived in the U.S. for two decades, works in Philadelphia, pays taxes, and has no prior criminal record. He is currently being held in Pike County Jail under an ICE detainer, and his trial is set for December 29. Authorities say the case highlights growing federal scrutiny of non-citizen voting amid renewed political debate over election integrity.

Mamdani, who has pledged to defend immigrant rights, faces a difficult balancing act. Supporting undocumented immigrants could anger sections of the electorate already frustrated by the city’s migrant crisis — while staying silent could alienate his progressive base. As federal enforcement tightens elsewhere, New York may soon find itself the next flashpoint in Trump’s immigration crackdown.

Pakistan Warns Taliban Ahead of Turkey Peace Talks

On the eve of renewed peace talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan in Istanbul, Pakistan's Defence Minister Khwaja Asif issued a fiery warning to the Taliban government, threatening possible military action, a statement that has dramatically escalated tensions and cast a dark cloud over diplomatic efforts to end weeks of deadly border clashes and drone strikes. “War will happen,” Asif said when asked by a reporter if the military confrontation was the only option to deal with the Taliban in Afghanistan. Asif also accused Kabul of harbouring militants and turning a blind eye to cross-border attacks.

Can Dairy Cause Cancer? Experts Fact-Check Viral Claim

A recent viral video has raised alarms by suggesting that everyday dairy consumption could increase your risk of cancer

For years, dairy has sat comfortably in the middle of our daily diet routines, from that morning cup of milk chai to a bowl of yoghurt with lunch. But every now and then, social media sparks a fresh debate about what is safe to eat, and this time, dairy has taken centre stage.

A recent viral video has raised alarms by suggesting that everyday dairy could increase cancer risk, leaving many wondering whether they should rethink what goes on their plate.

The Viral Instagram Claim

The claim comes from Dr Sharmin Yaqin, an oncology and cancerprevention specialist based in Dubai, who shared her views in an Instagram post recently. Her profile identifies her as an 'MD in oncology', which led many viewers to take her advice seriously.

Drink Your Coffee Before Noon, Says Harvard Doctor,

Plus 7 Ways To Upgrade It

Drinking three to five cups of espresso or six or more cups of French press coffee daily is associated with higher cholesterol levels

Some people just cannot live without coffee. In the morning, it is the rich aroma that wakes them up, and in the evening, another refreshing sip marks the end of their day – not to mention all the mini coffee breaks in between. Although coffee offers several health benefits, consuming it the wrong way can do more harm than good.

Not long ago, Harvard doctor-scientist Trisha Pasricha shared seven science-backed tips to upgrade your coffee intake.

Add No

In the clip, she says that dairy products made from cow, buffalo, or goat milk are inflammatory and that inflammation plays a major role in cancer development.

She adds that this applies to everyone, not just those with medical conditions, and goes further to point out research linking regular dairy intake to prostate cancer. According to her, paneer, processed cheese, curd, milk, and cream could all be problematic if consumed daily, and opting for anti-inflammatory alternatives may help reduce risk.

But do experts agree? We asked them.

What Are Experts Saying

However, cancer specialists and nutrition experts say the claim oversimplifies a complex area of research.

Dr Hitesh Singhavi, Consultant, Head and Neck Oncosurgery, KIMS Hospitals, Thane, notes that existing scientific data does not support a sweeping link between dairy and cancer.

While some studies suggest may be modestly associated with certain cancers, fermented dairy like yoghurt can be protective, and most research shows no significant effect on overall cancer risk.

He adds that for most people, dairy is safe as part of a balanced diet unless they have lactose intolerance, a milk allergy, or a condition requiring reduced fat intake.

He also warns against the "Proteas phenomenon", where competitive scientific fields sometimes produce conflicting studies because researchers rush to publish dramatic results over neutral ones. He stresses that focusing on a single food creates unnecessary fear and distracts from the broader picture of diet, genetics, and lifestyle. "In short, there is no reason to avoid dairy completely, but moderation and variety remain key," he adds.

Bottom Line For Your Plate

Dairy remains a nutrient-rich food group offering calcium, protein, and B vitamins, and most people can consume it as part of a balanced diet. The evidence around dairy and cancer is nuanced rather than conclusive, and experts suggest moderation, personal awareness, and professional guidance instead of feardriven restriction.

unsweetened coffee were less likely to die than those who did not drink coffee. Even those who drank more than four cups per day showed a link to longer life. People who lightly sweetened their coffee with just a single teaspoon also experienced similar benefits.

Avoid Ultra-Processed Coffee Creamers

The primary ingredient in many popular or seasonal creamers is often vegetable oil, such as palm or soybean, along with one to two teaspoons of added sugar per tablespoon. The next time you are in the dairy aisle, read the labels carefully, advised Trisha Pasricha. Instead, try adding a dash of cinnamon to your coffee for a healthier flavour boost.

Think Twice About Artificial Sweeteners

Another 2022 study revealed that artificial sweeteners appeared to negate the positive effects seen among drinkers of sugar-sweetened or unsweetened coffee, even after considering factors like diabetes. Although research on this topic is still emerging, a growing body of evidence suggests we should not assume sugar substitutes are a healthier choice for everyone.

Use Your French Press Sparingly

According to the doctor, drinking three to five cups of espresso or six or more cups of French press coffee daily is associated with higher cholesterol levels due to diterpenes – organic compounds that can raise cholesterol by reducing the liver's ability to remove LDL (bad cholesterol). Paper filters, however, better trap diterpenes and prevent them from entering your cup. Trisha Pasricha also mentioned that instant coffee and coffee pods are technically filtered – instant coffee is brewed and then dried into granules, while coffee pods contain small internal filters.

Instant/Decaf Coffee Are Still Great

The 2022 study noted that ground coffee, instant coffee, and decaffeinated coffee all provide similar health benefits.

Get Your Coffee In Early

A 2025 study involving more than 40,000 American men and women found that those who drank coffee primarily before noon – instead of throughout the day or evening – were 16% less likely to die of all causes. Heavy coffee consumption in the afternoon and evening blocks melatonin secretion by about 30%. The doctor explained that the health risks of chronic circadian rhythm disturbance are far-reaching and may relate more to inflammation than just poor sleep quality.

France investigates Shein and Temu after sex doll scandal

Online retailers Shein, Temu, AliExpress and Wish are being investigated in France in relation to the offence of enabling minors to access pornographic content on their platforms, the Paris prosecutor said on Tuesday.

The country's consumer watchdog had reported the four firms to the prosecution service on Sunday after raising concerns about the sale of childlike sex dolls on Shein's platform over the weekend.

The Paris prosecutor's office told that the platforms are being investigated over violent, pornographic or "undignified messages" that can be accessed by minors. AliExpress told it takes the matter very seriously. Shein, Temu and Wish have also been contacted for comment.

Shein bans all sex dolls after outrage over childlike products

Online retail giant Shein says it has banned the sale of all sex dolls on its platform around the world, after being accused of displaying products with "a childlike appearance" on its website. The French consumer watchdog first raised concerns at the weekend over the description and categorisation of the dolls, saying it left "little doubt as to the child pornography nature of the content."

Shein and AliExpress are also under investigation over the dissemination of content related to children that are of a pornographic nature, the office said. The cases have been referred to Paris' Office des

Tesla Taps ExLamborghini Chief to Lead India Comeback

Tesla Inc. has appointed Sharad Agarwal, former head of Lamborghini India, as its new country head, marking a major shift in its strategy to strengthen its presence after a muted start to sales. Agarwal will oversee Tesla’s local operations and lead efforts to develop a homegrown strategy for the US-based electric carmaker, people familiar with the matter said. He takes charge this week, becoming Tesla’s on-the-ground leader in India — a departure from the earlier structure where a small local team was managed remotely from China and other regional hubs.

Trump tariffs head to Supreme Court in case eagerly awaited around the world

What may be the biggest battle yet in Donald Trump's trade war is about to begin. The Trump administration heads to the US Supreme Court on Wednesday, facing off against small businesses and a group of states who contend most of the tariffs it has put in place are illegal and should be struck down. If the court agrees with them, Trump's trade strategy would be upended, including the sweeping global tariffs he first announced in April. The government would also likely have to refund some of the billions of dollars it has collected through the tariffs, which are taxes on imports. The final decision from the justices will come after what could be months of poring over the arguments and discussing the merits of the case. Eventually they will hold a vote.

Sitharaman Backs Bank Privatisation, Calls Nationalisation a Missed Goal

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday made a strong case for further privatisation of public sector banks (PSBs), asserting that such moves will not compromise financial inclusion or national interest. Addressing students at the Diamond Jubilee Valedictory Lecture of the Delhi School of Economics (DSE), University of Delhi, Sitharaman stated that the nationalisation of banks in 1969 did not yield the expected results in terms of financial inclusion, despite expanding priority sector lending and supporting government programmes.

The company said on Monday that it has permanently banned "all seller accounts linked to illegal or noncompliant sex-doll products" and will tighten controls across its global platform. Shein also says it has temporarily removed its adult products category as a precaution.

Starbucks to sell majority stake in China business

Starbucks says it is selling a 60% stake in its business in China as part of a $4bn (£3.04bn) deal with investment firm Boyu Capital. Under the agreement, the world's biggest coffee chain will have a 40% stake in the Chinese retail operation and retain ownership of the Starbucks brand there.

Starbucks entered China in 1999 and the country is now its second-largest market after the US, but has struggled in recent years with the rise of homegrown brands like Luckin Coffee.

China to ease chip export ban in new trade deal, White House says

China will begin easing an export ban on automotive computer chips vital to production of cars across the world as part of a trade deal struck between the US and China, the White House has said.

A progressive State Assembly member from Queens, Mamdani built his campaign on grassroots energy, rejecting big donors in favor of small contributions and community

mobilization, a strategy that resonated with young, diverse, and workingclass voters across boroughs. Quoting India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, he said, “A moment comes but rarely in history when we step out from the old to the new… Tonight, we have stepped out from the old into the new.” The win was celebrated widely

Rahul Claims Massive Voter Fraud in Haryana Polls

Of the two crore voters in Haryana, at least 25 lakhs are fake, possibly there are more, says the Congress leader

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha

Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday claimed that his party had found at least 25 lakh fake voters in Haryana where the Congress lost the Assembly election.

“One in eight voters in Haryana is fake and despite this the Congress lost by

22,000votes. Of the two crore voters in Haryana, at least 25 lakhs are fake, possibly there are more,” Rahul said at a news conference.

On August 7, the Congress leader accused the Election Commission (EC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of perpetrating “a huge criminal fraud” in elections. Presenting what he described as findings of a Congress investigation in the Mahadevapura Assembly constituency part of the Bangalore Central Lok Sabha seat in Karnataka he alleged that votes were “stolen” in multiple ways.

At a media briefing at the AICC headquarters, he said the Congress had won all Assembly segments in Bangalore Central except Mahadevapura and lost the parliamentary seat by 1,14,046 votes.

“We started looking at this number. Why does this imbalance come from one seat?

We found that 1,00,250 votes were stolen out of a total of 6.5 lakh,” he said.

Mamdani will become the city's youngest mayor in more than a century when he takes office on January 1.

among South Asian and immigrant communities, with supporters flooding the streets of Queens and Brooklyn in jubilation. Senator Bernie Sanders hailed Mamdani’s rise from 1% in early polls as “one of the great political upsets in modern American history.” In a heartfelt moment, the new mayor also acknowledged his wife, Brooklyn-based Syrian artist Rama Duwaji, saying, “To my incredible wife, Rama—hayati— there’s no one I’d rather have by my side at this moment.” For many, Mamdani’s victory signals a defining shift in New York’s political landscape — one that reaffirms the power and promise of its immigrant story.

Three Indian-Origin Men Among 10 Arrested in Texas Prostitution, Trafficking Crackdown

Texas authorities have arrested ten individuals, including three Indianorigin men, in a largescale prostitution and human trafficking sting operation conducted earlier this week, officials confirmed.

According to the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office, the arrests were made following a multiagency undercover operation targeting individuals attempting to solicit sex for money and those suspected of facilitating human trafficking. The sting was carried out over several days in Waco, Texas, after investigators received intelligence about an organized network operating through online platforms. Sheriff Parnell McNamara said that among those arrested were three men of Indian origin who allegedly paid

money to engage in sexual acts. The suspects reportedly contacted undercover officers posing as sex workers and arrived at a prearranged location, where they were taken into custody. Authorities said that several of the suspects face charges of solicitation of prostitution, a state jail felony, while others could face additional charges if evidence links them to trafficking activity. Investigators are now examining digital evidence, including text messages and payment records, to identify possible trafficking victims. Sheriff McNamara praised the operation’s success, saying it sent a “strong message” against human exploitation and illegal sex trade activities in Texas.

Gujarati Family Jailed for Running Brothel in New York

A Gujarati couple from Long Island, New York — Narendra Dadarwala (79) and his wife Sharda Dadarwala (72) — have been sentenced to prison for running a prostitution racket from their own motel, Seville Motor Lodge, located near Sunrise Highway. The couple, who owned and lived in the motel since 1984, pleaded guilty in April 2025 to conspiracy charges. Another Indian-origin man, Ashok Patel (61), who lived and worked at the motel, also admitted guilt in September. Their son, Jigar Dadarwala alias “Cobra,” still faces trial.

Court documents revealed that from 2014 to 2022, the motel was used for sex trafficking operations led by American national Michael Johnson, who coerced several women—some drug-addicted— into prostitution through threats and manipulation. Johnson has been convicted on four counts, including trafficking and promoting prostitution, and faces up to 15 years in prison. Authorities, including the FBI, confirmed that the Dadarwala family knowingly allowed Johnson to use their property for illegal activities. The motel was shut down in 2022 and sold for $2 million the following year, with part of the proceeds reserved for victim compensation. This case adds to a growing list of similar trafficking incidents involving motel owners of Indian origin across the U.S., some of whom have already been deported after serving prison terms.

Trump Urges US

to Resume Nuclear Tests

US President Donald Trump has claimed that Pakistan, along with Russia, China, and North Korea, is actively testing nuclear weapons and said the US should resume its own tests to maintain parity. In an interview with CBS News, Trump argued that while other nations conduct secret underground tests, the US remains transparent. Referring to recent Russian trials of advanced nuclear systems, he said, “We’re going to test because they test,” stressing the need for America to match its rivals in nuclear readiness.

Trump said the US isn’t sure where powerful nations are testing nukes but insisted the tests are happening.

ICE Arrests Gujarati Man Outside U.S. Court

A 55-year-old Gujarati man, originally from Ahmedabad, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) outside an immigration court near Washington D.C. while attending his asylum hearing. He had entered the U.S. illegally about three years ago with his family and was working at a convenience store. Despite having no criminal record, he was detained just before entering court, leaving his family—who also sought asylum—in shock. Sources say the arrest may be linked to intensified immigration enforcement in the state. His relatives in the U.S. are struggling to secure legal help.

Two Indians Brutally Murdered in Guatemala While Attempting to Enter US via Dunki Route

In a tragic incident, two young Indian men — 21-year-old Sahib Singh from Punjab and 18-year-old Yuvraj Singh from Haryana — were brutally killed in Guatemala while trying to reach the United States through the illegal “Donkey Route.” Both had left India together with the dream of a better life in America, but their journey ended in tragedy.

According to Sahib’s family, he had left home in November 2024. In the following months, they received disturbing videos showing him being beaten and forced to demand ransom. Believing he was being held hostage, the family kept receiving old videos even after Sahib was reportedly killed

in March 2025. A Mexican hospital document later confirmed his death on March 4. The two youths were allegedly kidnapped by local smugglers in Guatemala in December. Families of both victims had paid large ransoms— Rs.7 lakh and Rs.8 lakh respectively— after being threatened with harm to their

sons. Sahib’s family had even sold land and paid a total of Rs.49 lakh to an agent in Haryana who had arranged their journey. Despite multiple payments, neither of the victims was released. Authorities in Guatemala have arrested three local agents, but the families have not yet recovered the bodies. Reports suggest that the smugglers continued to extort families using old videos even after the men had been killed.

After Chicago, ICE Raids Indiana; 233 Illegal Aliens Arrested

233 Illegal Aliens, Including 146 Truck Drivers, Arrested Near Illinois Border

Under “Operation Midway Blitz,” federal agents and Indiana State Police arrested 233 illegal aliens near the Illinois-Indiana border, including 146 truck drivers. The operation, linked to ongoing immigration enforcement in Chicago, targeted undocumented drivers involved in offenses such as DUI, drug trafficking, assault, and fraud. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said most arrested drivers held licenses issued in Illinois, California, or New York. She accused Democratic “sanctuary states” of endangering public safety by issuing commercial licenses to illegal immigrants despite deadly crashes caused by undocumented drivers.

ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons stated the crackdown aims to remove individuals posing threats to Americans and to protect interstate transport routes. The arrests follow recent fatal accidents in Florida and California involving Punjabi truck drivers, prompting nationwide scrutiny of undocumented truckers working across Republican-led states.

JD Vance: ‘We’re Removing Illegal Migrants’

US Vice President JD Vance reiterated his hardline stance on illegal immigration, saying it is “reasonable and acceptable” for Americans to not want neighbors with whom they share nothing in common. Speaking on the *New York Post* podcast *Pod Force One with Miranda Devine* on October 29, Vance argued that open-border policies have worsened housing shortages and community tensions. He described scenarios where landlords rent homes to multiple migrant families, overcrowding neighborhoods and driving up rent prices. “Four families of Haitian migrants moving into a threebedroom house—each paying more—ends up pricing Americans out,” Vance said, calling it a direct consequence of failed border policies.

2,790 Indians Sent Back from US, 100 from UK

Over the past ten months, more than 2,790 Indians have been deported from the United States as part of mass deportations under the Trump administration. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that these individuals, who

were residing illegally in the US, were repatriated after their citizenship was verified. The figures are accurate up to October 29.

In addition to the US, around 100 Indians have been deported from the UK this year. The United States hosts one of the largest populations of undocumented

46 Illegal Immigrants Arrested in New Jersey Warehouse Raid

In a major immigration raid at a warehouse in Woodbridge Township, New Jersey, federal agents from ICE, CBP, and the Department of Homeland Security arrested 46 undocumented immigrants. Officials said the operation targeted workers without valid work permits. As news of the raid spread, labor and immigration activists gathered outside the facility to protest, but enforcement continued.

The mother of an 18-year-old detainee alleged her son was jailed despite holding a valid work permit and being in the process of obtaining a green card through his U.S. citizen stepfather.

Despite Work Permits, One Worker Jailed; 25% of Warehouse Staff Behind Bars

Activists said those arrested worked for Savino Del Bene, an international shipping firm, where roughly 25% of employees are now in custody. Reports claim agents conducted the raid without a judicial warrant, having previously visited the site for product inspections. DHS stated that deportation proceedings are underway for the detained workers, though it has not confirmed any action against the employer. The incident follows similar workplace raids in New Jersey and Georgia. DHS recently warned U.S. companies against hiring undocumented workers and ended the 540-day automatic work permit extension policy, raising fears of further arrests among immigrants awaiting permit renewals.

Besides special removal flights, individual Indians are being deported almost daily on commercial flights.

Indians—estimated at nearly a million— while smaller numbers reside without legal status in the UK, Canada, and Australia. Unlike earlier years when removal flights were publicly announced, both the Indian and US governments now withhold such details. A recent deportation flight to Delhi carried about 50 people, many from Haryana, some of whom had spent over a year in detention. The reported figure only includes officially deported individuals. Many others have opted for self-deportation after their asylum claims were denied. The US government has even offered an “exit bonus” of $1,000 and a free return ticket to voluntary returnees, though no data has been released on how many benefited from this scheme.

According to the US Department of Homeland Security, about 1.6 million people left the country voluntarily this year, while 500,000 were formally deported. Officials say deportations are at record highs, even as illegal border crossings have dropped sharply.

US Warns: ‘H-1B Abuse Hurts American Dream’

A new video released by the Trump administration's Department of Labour on social media accused companies of abusing the H-1B visa program. It highlights that 72 per cent of visa holders are Indians, followed by Chinese at 12 per cent. According to the video, the "American Dream" was stolen from Americans, and jobs were unfairly given to lower-paid foreign workers. The video blames "politicians and bureaucrats" for allowing companies to misuse the H-1B visa. "Under the President of the United States and Secretary Lori ChavezDeRemer leadership, we're holding companies accountable for their abuse and recapturing the American Dream for the AMERICAN PEOPLE", the narrator says in the video.

Indian-Origin CEO Dupes BlackRock In $500-Million Fraud

Global investment giant BlackRock and several lenders are scrambling to recover over $500 million allegedly siphoned off by Indian-origin telecom executive Bankim Brahmbhatt, CEO of Broadband Telecom and Bridgevoice. According to the *Wall Street Journal*, Brahmbhatt’s companies fabricated invoices and fake receivables to secure huge loans from BlackRock’s privatecredit arm, HPS Investment Partners, and other lenders, including BNP Paribas. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. in August, claims his firms created

fictitious financial records while secretly transferring money to offshore accounts in India and Mauritius. The fraud was uncovered in July 2025 when an HPS employee found suspicious

email addresses used to verify customer invoices—many traced to fake domains. Subsequent investigations by law firm Quinn Emanuel and accounting firm CBIZ revealed that all customer verifications from Brahmbhatt’s firms since 2023 were fraudulent, with some contracts forged as far back as 2018. By the time investigators arrived at his Garden City, New York office, it was abandoned. The lawsuit alleges Brahmbhatt built a web of shell companies to deceive lenders and inflate his assets, leaving BlackRock’s newly acquired HPS facing one of its largest-ever private-credit losses.

Gujarati Woman

Arrested by ICE in Chicago Released After 20 Days

A Gujarati woman arrested by ICE earlier this month near Lawrence, Chicago, has been released after spending 20 days in jail. The woman, originally from North Gujarat and living in the U.S. with her husband and child, was detained at a bus stop without a warrant. Sources say ICE agents were targeting another suspect but detained her after she attempted to flee, suspecting irregularities. She was initially held in a Chicago jail before being transferred to another facility. According to reports, she was released on a $5,000 bond after a U.S. citizen relative guaranteed her bail. Her asylum case is pending, and she has yet to receive a work permit, though her husband holds legal documents The arrest highlights growing ICE crackdowns in Chicago and nearby towns, where several Indians and Gujaratis with pending asylum or undocumented status have been detained in recent weeks.

India Weighs US Sanctions on Russian Oil, Cites ‘Needs of 1.4 Billion’

India is carefully examining the implications of new U.S. sanctions on Russian oil firms, emphasizing that its energy policy will continue to be guided by the needs of its 1.4 billion citizens, government sources said on Monday. The sanctions, recently imposed by Washington on several Russian entities, have raised concerns about their potential impact on global oil supplies and India’s energy imports.

India, one of the world’s largest oil consumers, has been purchasing discounted crude from Russia since the start of the Ukraine conflict, a move that has helped cushion domestic fuel prices. Officials in New Delhi said the government is “closely studying” the scope and potential effects of the sanctions on trade and shipping.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reiterated that India’s decisions are made in line with its national interests and energy security requirements. “We

case and was coerced into sending $80,000 through gift cards and money orders, followed by another $60,000 in cash. Police caught the suspects red-handed while attempting to collect the money.

Harshil Patel, 23, admitted to first-degree theft attempt on his birthday, October 1, and was sentenced to 170 days in jail, which he has already served. Shubham Patel pleaded guilty on October 22 and awaits sentencing, where he could face over a year in prison and a $50,000 penalty.

Both men now face likely deportation, given the seriousness of their crimes. Meanwhile, a third Indian accused, Utkarsh Mishra, remains at large, with a $50,000 FBI warrant issued for his arrest.

Analysts say India may seek to navigate the sanctions by using alternative payment mechanisms or through nonsanctioned intermediaries, ensuring that supplies remain stable as the nation balances strategic ties with both Washington and Moscow.

Indian-American Student Slams VP

Vance: ‘You Sold Us a Dream’

An Indian American student’s sharp exchange with U.S. Vice President JD Vance at a Turning Point USA event has sparked widespread debate on the tightening of U.S. immigration policies and the growing frustration among Indian-origin professionals and students.

During the event at the University of Mississippi, the student confronted Vance over the Trump administration’s tough stance on foreign workers, accusing Washington of betraying the promise it once extended to immigrants.

“When you talk about too many immigrants here, when did you decide the number?” she asked. “You made us spend our youth and wealth in this country and gave us a dream. We have worked hard for it—then how can you say you’re going to take us out?”

Vance defended the administration’s

policies, insisting the U.S. must limit immigration to safeguard national interests. “Just because some came legally and contribute doesn’t mean we must keep letting in millions more,” he said to loud applause. “My job as vice president is to look out for the people of the United States, not the whole world.”

The student’s question quickly went viral, earning praise from many Indian Americans who saw it as a rare moment of speaking truth to power. Others, however, attacked her online, using xenophobic and religious slurs.

The heated exchange came amid sweeping immigration curbs that have rattled the Indian diaspora—particularly new visa restrictions, a proposed $100,000 fee on H-1B applications, and the end of automatic work permit extensions.

The debate deepened when the same student pressed Vance on his remarks about religion, prompting him to say he wished his Indian American wife, Usha Vance, had embraced Christianity. The comment drew sharp criticism online, adding another layer to an already charged conversation about faith, immigration, and identity in America.

SRK at 60: Did Chak De India for Dad, Lost 7–0 to Aussie Women’s Team

November 2, 2025, was a day of celebration as Shah Rukh Khan celebrated his 60th birthday. It was also the day when India’s women's cricket team won the World Cup. Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan turned 60 on November 2, 2025, and while fans around the world celebrated with immense love and excitement, his birthday this year brought a mix of joy and disappointment. For decades, it has been a cherished tradition for SRK to appear on the balcony of his iconic Mumbai residence, Mannat, and wave to thousands of fans who gather every year to wish him. However, this year, the ritual was broken. Despite the massive crowd that assembled outside Mannat, authorities requested the fans to disperse due to security and crowd control concerns. The superstar later shared a heartfelt apology on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Have been advised by authorities that I will not be able to step out and greet all you lovely people who have been waiting for me. My deepest apologies… it is for the overall safety of everyone due to crowd control issues.”

Hina Applauds Salman For Standing Up For Ashnoor

Former Bigg Boss 11 contestant Hina Khan praised Salman Khan for standing up for Bigg Boss 19 participant Ashnoor Kaur after she was body-shamed on the show. Taking to social media, Hina thanked the host for addressing the issue “with grace and empathy,” calling his intervention timely and fair. She also lauded 21-year-old Ashnoor for handling the repeated jibes about her height and weight with “poise, maturity, and dignity,” adding that the young actress chose not to seek sympathy or attention despite being targeted on national television.

Canada Rejects 75% Of Indian Visa Applicants

Toronto: Canada’s ongoing immigration clampdown has severely impacted Indian students, with nearly 74% of study permit applications rejected in August 2025 — more than double the 32% rejection rate from a year earlier, according to government data. The stricter visa policies, part of Ottawa’s broader effort to curb temporary migration and crack down on student visa fraud, have made Canada a less attractive destination for Indian students who once viewed it as a top choice for higher education.

NYC Votes Today: Mamdani vs. Cuomo Showdown

As New York City heads to the polls today, Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral campaign is drawing attention for doing politics differently. Unlike the traditional, top-down approach associated with former administrations like Andrew Cuomo’s, Mamdani has made personal connection the cornerstone of his strategy. From pre-dawn street walks bridging Brooklyn to Manhattan, to stopping at neighborhood bodegas, barber shops, and nightclubs, he has turned campaigning into a citywide conversation. His approach blends grassroots organizing with symbolic gestures and has been resonating deeply with immigrant communities. From celebrating Diwali with the Indian community to bringing into his fold liberal Jews, Mamdani’s energy feels raw, authentic, and principled. He has been the most watched-out candidates in recent times, for speaking directly to working-class New Yorkers rather than political elites. His campaign reflects the city’s evolving demographics, cutting across race, religion, and class in ways that traditional candidates often avoid. In a city where politics has long felt distant to everyday residents, Mamdani’s strategy is refreshingly intimate, interactive, and responsive, showing that for many voters, seeing a candidate engage personally can outweigh the old guard’s polished messaging. But as November 4, approaches the country is waiting to see with bated breath on who ultimately wins New Yorkers over.

Canada’s Mass Visa Cancellations May Hit Indian Nationals

Canadian authorities are reportedly preparing a plan to cancel large groups of visas, including those held by Indian nationals, amid growing concerns over fraud. According to CBC News, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), and their U.S. counterparts have formed a joint task

force to identify and cancel fraudulent visitor visas from India and Bangladesh. Internal documents suggest the proposed powers would allow mass cancellations during crises such as pandemics, wars, or “country-specific” situations. The move follows a sharp rise in visa rejections for Indian students — nearly 74% of applications in August 2025 —

Halts Deportation Of Indian Man Jailed 43 Years

Two US courts have ordered immigration officials not to deport Subramanyam Vedam, the 64-year-old Indian-origin man who spent four decades in prison before his murder conviction was overturned earlier this year. Vedam was nine months old when he came to the US with his parents legally from India. He grew up in State College, where his father

taught at Penn State. An immigration judge stayed his deportation on Thursday until the Bureau of Immigration Appeals decides whether to review his case. That could take several months. Vedam's lawyers also got a stay the same day in the US District Court in Pennsylvania but said that the case may be on hold given the immigration court ruling. Vedam's sister said Monday that the family is relieved "that two different judges have agreed that Subu's deportation is unwarranted while his effort to reopen his immigration case is still pending."

Over 300 civil society groups have reportedly raised concerns over the legislation, saying group cancellations would give the government the ability to set up a "mass deportation machine".

under Ottawa’s ongoing clampdown on temporary migrants. A bill granting these expanded powers has been introduced in Parliament, with Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government pushing for swift approval. Immigration Minister Lena Diab has defended the bill as a precaution for emergencies, though she has not acknowledged any country-specific intent. More than 300 civil society groups have condemned the plan, warning it could enable a “mass deportation machine.” Immigration lawyers told CBC the policy may also be aimed at reducing Canada’s mounting visa backlog. The leaked documents reveal that asylum claims from Indian nationals rose sharply from fewer than 500 a month in May 2023 to around 2,000 by July 2024. Processing times for Indian visa applications have nearly doubled to 54 days, contributing to a drop in approvals. India remains Canada’s largest source of international students but now faces its highest-ever rejection rate.

Trump Calls Mamdani ‘Communist’ Before Polls

US President Donald Trump has endorsed former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in the city’s mayoral race, warning voters against Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani. In a Truth Social post, Trump labelled Mamdani a “communist” and cautioned that New York City would face a “complete and total economic and social disaster” if he wins. He further threatened to restrict federal funds to the city, saying he would not “send good money after bad” under Mamdani’s leadership.

Trump, who once had a tense relationship with former Governor Andrew Cuomo, urged New Yorkers to support him instead.

US: Video of Another Gujarati Woman Accused of Store Theft Goes Viral

CHICAGO: A video showing a young Gujarati woman allegedly attempting to leave a Target store near Schaumburg, Illinois, without paying for certain items has gone viral on social media. The incident, which took place on July 17, resurfaced after police bodycam footage was released recently. The woman, wearing glasses and speaking English with a Kathiawadi accent, is seen pleading with officers not to arrest her, folding her hands and apologizing repeatedly. Sources suggest

she hails from Ahmedabad and moved to the US about two years ago with her husband. She is reportedly on a student visa, while her husband holds an H-1B visa. This marks the third such incident this year involving Indian women caught

for alleged shoplifting in US Target stores, with at least two cases involving Gujaratis. In the video, the woman insists she simply “forgot to pay” and offers to settle the bill, but officers proceed with the arrest, explaining that payment cannot undo the offence. At one point, she grabs an officer’s leg while crying and pleading, prompting a female officer to assist in handcuffing her. Shoplifting is a minor offence in the US, but for non-citizens, it can carry serious immigration consequences, including possible deportation.

Rama Duwaji: The Artist Behind Zohran Mamdani’s Winning Campaign

Rama Duwaji's only election-related social media post came in June, after Mamdani's surprise primary victory.

While Zohran Mamdani captured national attention with his historic New York City mayoral win, his wife Rama Duwaji quietly played a major role behind the scenes. The 28-year-old artist, who has largely avoided the spotlight, is credited with shaping the Democratic socialist's distinctive campaign identity and social media presence even as she remained nearly invisible on the trail. Duwaji, a Dallasraised and Dubai-educated Syrian-American who moved to New York only four years ago, helped design Mamdani's campaign's logos and overall aesthetic, including the bold yellow, orange and blue branding that became synonymous with his grassroots movement, according to a CNN report. She was absent from debates and campaign events leading up to election day and rarely posted about the race online. Her only election-related social media post came in June,

after Mamdani's surprise primary victory, when she wrote on Instagram, “Couldn't possibly be prouder.”

Duwaji was by Mamdani's side when he cast his primary vote earlier on Tuesday and later joined him for his appearance on The Daily Show. She was also spotted among more than 10,000 supporters at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, watching from the crowd as Mamdani delivered his final rally speech alongside Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Bernie Sanders, per CNN.

Duwaji and Mamdani met on the dating app Hinge in 2021, soon after Mamdani's election to the New York State Assembly. Their first date was at Qahwah House, a Yemeni cafe in Brooklyn, followed by a walk through McCarren Park. On their second date, he showed her around his home in Queens.

Born in Texas and raised in Dubai, Duwaji describes herself as “ethnically Syrian.” She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Illustration from New York’s School of Visual Arts, and her work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Washington Post, BBC, Apple, and Tate Modern. Her art explores Arab identity, sisterhood, and political resistance, often featuring proPalestinian themes.

Despite her growing popularity on Instagram, where she has over 230,000 followers, Duwaji has largely avoided media attention, rarely appearing alongside Mamdani in public or on television. Her posts instead focus on her artwork and activism, including depictions of Middle Eastern women and commentary on U.S. foreign policy.

With Mamdani’s historic victory, Duwaji also makes history as the first Gen Z First Lady of New York City. Mamdani has publicly praised her, calling her “an incredible artist who deserves to be known on her own terms.” Her quiet influence and creative energy are now poised to bring a new, youthful touch to City Hall.

Journalist Mehdi Hasan couldn't resist trolling New York's critics following Zohran Mamdani's historic mayoral victory on Tuesday. The 34-year-old Democratic socialist became the first Muslim mayor of New York City and capped his victory speech with the title track of the 2004 Bollywood movie Dhoom.

GOP Congressman Urges Stronger IndiaUS Ties, Warns Trump on Tariff Moves

WASHINGTON, DC – Republican

Congressman and India Caucus CoChair Rich McCormick has urged a deeper India-U.S. partnership, asserting that together the two democracies could usher in “another generation” of global peace.

Speaking at the Hudson Institute on November 3, McCormick emphasized that the Trump administration should keep allies like India “close.”

Describing the synergy between “the largest democracy” and “the wealthiest and oldest democracy,” he said their collaboration could secure unprecedented peace, prosperity, and economic growth worldwide.

McCormick also cautioned the Trump administration to act prudently on tariff policies concerning India. He noted that while India imposes an average 15 percent tariff with trade barriers, the U.S. levies around 2 percent with

Vivek Ramaswamy Pushes Back Against GOP Critics: “End Identity Politics”

CINCINNNATI, OH – Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, a Hindu Indian American, posted a brief but pointed message on X (formerly Twitter): “End identity politics.” The statement came amid a growing storm of social media attacks directed at him and other Indian-origin public figures, exposing deepening tensions over religion, culture, and identity within the GOP.

Ramaswamy has long faced pushback from segments of the Christian MAGA base, particularly after advocating for expanded foreign talent in the U.S. workforce and criticizing aspects of American education and culture.

Social media critics frequently tell him to “go back to India” whenever he shares personal posts—most recently, Halloween photos with his children. His latest call to end identity politics once again drew a wave of criticism, with many accusing him of hypocrisy for denouncing identity-based

discourse while being a focal point of it.

The online environment was already charged following recent remarks by Vice President JD Vance about his wife, Usha Vance, a Hindu. Vance said he hoped she would one day embrace Christianity, describing it as a natural wish for loved ones to share faith. Though

$8 Million Worth of Fake Designer Watches Confiscated by Chicago CBP

CHICAGO, IL– U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at an express consignment facility near Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport intercepted a shipment from China on October 23 containing counterfeit designer watches and bracelets. The parcel, destined for a Chicago residence, included 26 watches and two bracelets bearing fake trademarks of highend brands—six Richard Mille, eight Audemars Piguet, four Diesel, eight G-Shock watches, and two Rolex bracelets.

CBP’s Centers of Excellence and Expertise confirmed the items were counterfeit. Had they been authentic, their combined retail value would have exceeded $8.5 million. “While online shopping has increased, CBP remains vigilant in stopping illegal shipments that harm our economy,” said LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke, Director of Field Operations for the Chicago Field Office. Counterfeit goods are often sold through underground markets and third-party

e-commerce sites, funding smugglers and organized crime. Many consumers unknowingly purchase these items, later realizing their poor quality. Such trade undermines U.S. businesses, threatens jobs, and can endanger national security and consumer safety.

CBP actively combats counterfeit imports through its Intellectual Property Rights enforcement program, which protects American innovation and ensures fair competition. The agency urges the public to remain cautious when shopping online, as fake products can pose real dangers.

To report suspected fraud or illegal trade, contact CBP via the e-Allegations Online Trade Violations Reporting System, call 1-800-BE-ALERT, or report IPR violations to the National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center at www.iprcenter.gov or 1-866-IPR-2060.

he later defended his statement, it reignited debates about religion and assimilation in conservative politics—pulling Ramaswamy into the discussion as well.

MAGA commentator Dinesh D’Souza weighed in on the backlash against Ramaswamy, writing that the abuse he faced for posting a simple family photo highlighted a broader problem within the GOP. D’Souza’s son-in-law, Rep. Brandon Gill, has also courted controversy with remarks widely viewed as dismissive or critical of Indian Americans.

Ramaswamy’s terse call to “End identity politics” thus triggered yet another round of scrutiny. Some social media users argued that he had fueled similar debates himself, citing his comments last Christmas suggesting that immigrants “work harder than native-born Americans,” which sparked heated comparisons of ethnic and cultural work ethics.

Hindu Prayers Open Legislature of the U.S. Virgin Islands for the First Time

VIRGIN ISLANDS -For the first time since its establishment in 1954, the Legislature of the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) in capital Charlotte Amalie opened its session with Hindu prayers on October 30. The invocation included verses from the world’s oldest extant scriptures.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed delivered the historic opening prayer, chanting ancient Sanskrit verses before the USVI Legislature. He then read their English interpretations for the audience. Sanskrit, regarded as a sacred language in Hinduism, is the root of many Indo-European languages. Zed received a warm welcome at the Senate, where Senate President Milton E. Potter introduced him. Many senators and officials greeted him personally, offering handshakes, hugs, and words of appreciation.

As President of the Universal Society of Hinduism, Zed recited from the Rig Veda—the world’s oldest scripture still in use—along with lines from the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita (Song of the Lord). He began and concluded the invocation with the

sacred syllable “Om”, symbolizing the universe and used in Hinduism to both begin and end spiritual works.

Quoting from the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, Zed recited:

Judge Orders Immediate Restoration of Withheld Food Aid

WASHINGTON, DC

-Two U.S. federal judges, including Judge Indira Talwani of Massachusetts, have ordered President Donald Trump’s administration to continue paying benefits under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) despite a prolonged government shutdown that halted funding for many agencies. The rulings direct the administration to use emergency reserves to sustain SNAP, formerly known as the food stamp program, which provides essential nutrition aid to about 42 million low-income Americans. The court actions came just before the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), which administers the program, was set to suspend payments due to the budget impasse.

Now in its fifth week, the shutdown has paralyzed federal operations as Congress and the White House remain locked in a standoff over spending legislation. In separate rulings, Judge John J. McConnell of Rhode Island ordered that contingency funds “must be distributed as soon as possible” to ensure November benefits, while Judge Talwani demanded that the government explain by November 3 how it would guarantee SNAP’s continued funding.

The judicial orders follow a lawsuit filed by 25 states, including Massachusetts, challenging the administration’s handling of food aid during the funding lapse.

Responding to reporters’ questions, President Trump commented that the SNAP program “mostly serves Democrat voters,” but added, “I’m the President — I want to help everybody. I want to help Democrats and Republicans.”

The rulings represent a significant judicial intervention aimed at safeguarding vital nutrition support for millions during the ongoing political deadlock.

From the Bhagavad Gita, he urged lawmakers and attendees to “keep the welfare of others always in mind.”

Zed, a globally recognized Hindu and interfaith leader, has received the World Interfaith Leader Award. He serves on the Advisory Board of The Interfaith Peace Project and as Senior Fellow and Religious Advisor to the Foundation for Religious Diplomacy. He has been a panelist for The Washington Post’s “On Faith” series and leads the weekly

SNAP Payments Suspended Amid Ongoing Federal Shutdown

MOORESTOWN, NJ —As the federal government shutdown continues with no resolution in sight, millions of Americans are bracing for the possible suspension of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) payments — a move that could leave many households scrambling to put food on the table through November and potentially beyond.

In Burlington County, approximately 4.9 percent of households rely on SNAP benefits, according to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau. These benefits help low-income families purchase groceries and maintain basic nutrition, particularly during periods of economic uncertainty.

Across New Jersey, the potential disruption would have a far-reaching impact. More than 800,000 residents currently depend on SNAP assistance, according to the New Jersey Department of Human Services. Of those recipients, almost half are children, nearly one in three live with a disability, and one in five are seniors aged 60 or older.

State officials have been warning residents to prepare for possible delays or interruptions in benefits as federal funds dry up during the shutdown. While New Jersey agencies are exploring contingency plans to ensure food access, the evolving situation has left families anxious and food banks preparing for a potential surge in demand.

If the funding impasse continues, local food pantries and community organizations may once again become lifelines for thousands of households facing uncertainty about where their next meal will come from.

Tulsi Gabbard Blasts U.S. Regime Change Policy

WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard sharply criticized decades of American foreign policy during her address at the Manama Dialogue in Bahrain on October 28, underscoring what she called a significant shift under President Donald Trump away from “regime change or nation building.”

Speaking before international officials at the annual security summit organized by the International Institute for Security Studies, Gabbard denounced Washington’s past “one-size-fits-all” strategy toward foreign conflicts, saying it often produced unintended consequences. “For decades, our foreign policy has been trapped in a counterproductive and endless cycle of regime change or nation building,” she said, warning that such actions frequently left the U.S. with “more enemies than allies,” according to the Associated Press.

Congressional Candidate Amiwala Condemns Violent Halloween ICE Raids in Evanston

EVANSTON, IL. — As children filled the streets of Evanston for Halloween festivities, a sudden and violent confrontation unfolded.

Federal immigration agents pursued a vehicle, causing it to crash, then forcibly detained three individuals.

Video footage shows an agent pressing a detainee’s face into the pavement while handcuffing him — his cheek visibly scraping against the concrete.

The incident occurred shortly after U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem publicly stated that ICE operations would not be suspended for Halloween night.

Witnesses report that the arrests took place just blocks from Evanston Township High School and Chute Middle School, within heavily residential areas. In response, the Evanston and Skokie school districts canceled all outdoor student activities on Friday, citing safety concerns for families and children in the affected neighborhoods.

FBI Raid Rocks

Idaho Racetrack Over Immigration Enforcement

BOISE, IA— The first sign of trouble was the sound of helicopter rotors and screams. Within moments, Anabel Romero was handcuffed on the ground as armed officers pulled her 14-year-old daughter from a truck and zip-tied her in front of her siblings.

Romero and her daughter — both U.S. citizens — were among about 400 people detained for hours at La Catedral Arena, a racetrack west of Boise, during an FBIled raid on alleged illegal gambling that ended with 100-plus arrests, mostly for immigration violations.

Over 200 officers from at least 14 agencies, including ICE and Border Patrol, took part. Witnesses said children as young as 11 were zip-tied, and an 8-year-old boy got glass in his mouth when officers broke a car window. Officials later denied that children were restrained.

Only five people faced gambling charges; 105 were held for immigration violations. Residents said officers used flash-bangs, pepper bombs, and zip ties, often without identification.

The raid, in Idaho’s heavily Hispanic Canyon County, highlighted how immigration enforcement has increasingly driven federal operations under Trump, sometimes ensnaring U.S. citizens.

“It is abhorrent that kids who should be enjoying a holiday with friends have to witness their neighbors being violently taken away. ICE is destroying lives right here in our own backyard. These raids are tearing apart families and traumatizing a generation of American children. Imagine going to school every day and not knowing whether your parents will still be there when the bell rings — that’s the reality families are living through, not just in Evanston, but across the country.”

Amiwala also criticized the conduct of

ICE officers, referencing the widely circulated video:

These actions violate the very principles our Constitution stands for. Let’s be clear — these raids are not about public safety. They are driven by hate. The dire reality of our militarized state under this administration has never been more apparent.”

Community Impact and Ongoing Investigation

Local advocates and civil rights groups have demanded an immediate investigation into the agents’ conduct and the legality of the arrests. Parents and educators have expressed deep concern over the psychological impact on children who witnessed the violent encounter on what should have been a night of joy and community celebration. Evanston city officials have yet to release an official statement, and ICE has not responded to requests for comment.

VP Vance Faces Backlash Over Comment on Hindu Wife’s Faith

Last week, during an event, at a college campus vice president JD Vance made a comment that raised many eyebrows. During a question and answer session with students, while answering a question Vance said that he to see his wife, second lady Usha Vance who is a Hindu Indian convert to Christianity.

And just like that, the turning Point, event, where the VP was speaking, became a flashpoint of culture, assimilation and freedom to practice their faith in America.

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi denouncing VP’s remarks said, “At a time when Hindu and Indian-American communities are confronting a climate of rising prejudice, talk of mass deportations, and growing anti-Hindu sentiment— even against members of his own party— it’s deeply disappointing that the Vice President would add to that climate

through his recent comments while remaining silent in the face of hate.”

The backlash erupted when Vance was asked a question by an Indian student, “You are married to a woman who is not a Christian. In her Wikipedia page, she still calls her Hindu. You are raising three kids in inter racial, religious household. How are you teaching your kids not to

WASHINGTON, D.C. —Vice President

JD Vance said he hopes his wife, Usha Vance — who was raised in a Hindu household — will one day embrace Christianity, while stressing mutual respect and free will in their interfaith marriage.

Speaking at a Turning Point USA event on October 29, he shared that most Sundays, Usha joins him at church and that he hopes she may someday be “moved by the same thing” that inspired his own faith. However, he emphasized,

Illegal Truck Drivers Targeted: 146 Arrested in Statewide Indiana Raid

GARY, IN -Federal and local authorities in Indiana arrested 223 illegal immigrants, including 146 semi-truck drivers, in Operation Midway Blitz—a crackdown on unlicensed foreign drivers operating commercial trucks in the U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the arrests in Gary, Indiana, warning that illegal drivers endanger citizens and will be removed from U.S. roads. Many of the arrested drivers obtained CDLs from sanctuary states like California, Illinois, and New York, according to ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons, who said several have criminal records involving serious offenses.

The operation honors Katie Abraham, killed in a hit-and-run by an illegal immigrant truck driver. Authorities stressed the effort is about public safety, not just immigration.

Recent crashes involving illegal immigrant truck drivers—including fatal incidents in Florida and California—have intensified scrutiny over states issuing commercial licenses to noncitizens.

Vance, who converted to Catholicism in 2019, said neither he nor his wife were religious when they met at Yale Law School. They married in 2014 with both Hindu and Christian ceremonies and are raising their children in the Christian faith.

He added that Usha maintains her own spiritual connection and remains close to the priest who baptized him, saying, “You figure this stuff out as a family and trust God’s plan.”

FBI Probes Suspected Bombing at Harvard Medical Campus

BOSTON, MA — The FBI has launched an investigation into what authorities believe was an intentional explosion early Saturday morning at Harvard University’s Longwood Medical School campus. The incident occurred shortly after 2:45 a.m. at the Goldenson Building, 220 Longwood Avenue, following a fire alarm activation. A Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) officer responding to the alarm reportedly saw two individuals fleeing the building but was unable to apprehend them. Upon reaching the fourth floor — where the alarm originated — the officer found evidence of a blast.

The Boston Fire Department’s Arson Unit conducted an initial inspection and determined the explosion was likely deliberate. The Boston Police Department’s bomb squad then swept the area and confirmed no additional explosive devices were present. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. In a statement, Harvard University said its police department is working closely with local, state, and federal authorities, including the FBI, to determine who was behind the explosion and their motives. Officials have urged anyone with information to contact the HUPD Detective Bureau at 617-495-1796.

Over 170 Leaders Unite to Celebrate the Growth of U.S.–India Philanthropy

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — More than 170 leaders in U.S.–India philanthropy gathered on October 28 for the Philanthropy Summit organized by Indiaspora and the India Philanthropy Alliance (IPA), celebrating the remarkable rise of Indian American giving and outlining an ambitious roadmap to expand its reach and impact. Coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti earlier in the month, the summit reflected on Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of service, truth, and stewardship. Dr. K. Srikar Reddy, Indian Consul General in San Francisco, inaugurated the event, underscoring philanthropy’s crucial role in strengthening both nations’ peopleto-people ties.

A new Dalberg report, commissioned by Indiaspora and IPA, revealed striking progress: Indian American giving has tripled in just six years, reaching $4–5 billion annually. The community’s “giving gap” — the difference between actual giving and what would be expected if Indian Americans gave at the U.S. average rate — has narrowed from $2.5 billion in 2018 to about $1 billion today. The report also found that the wealthiest Indian Americans are now giving at higher rates than the national average.

Leaders credited initiatives such as India Giving Day and GivingPi for fueling this surge in generosity and reaffirmed

their commitment to closing the giving gap entirely. Attendees also previewed a forthcoming study, “Using Data and

Research to Advance Everyday Giving in India,” which explores strategies for nonprofits to better engage grassroots

State Senator Ram Villivalam Passes Landmark Public Transit Reform Legislation

HiIndia Newsdesk

SPRINGFIELD, IL State Senator Ram Villivalam successfully advanced Senate Bill 2111 through the Illinois Senate, marking a historic step toward reforming and revitalizing the state’s public transit system to avert the looming fiscal cliff and strengthen long-term sustainability.

“Our public transit systems are the backbone of our communities – connecting residents to their jobs, schools, doctors and more,” said Villivalam (D-Chicago). “Now is the time to embrace viable, long-term solutions that provide a world-class public transit system to Illinoisans.”

The legislation establishes the Northern Illinois Transit Authority (NITA), transferring oversight from the existing Regional Transit Authority to the new body, which will manage the CTA, Metra and Pace systems. NITA will consist of a 20-member board—five appointees each from the governor, mayor of Chicago

and Cook County Board president, and one representative from each of the collar counties: DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will. To enhance safety, Senate Bill 2111 introduces a Transit Ambassador Program, deploying trained, unarmed personnel at transit stations and onboard vehicles to assist riders, connect individuals with social services, and report potential criminal activity. It also establishes a Law Enforcement Task Force to combat transitrelated crime and an Office of Transit Safety and Experience to coordinate with law enforcement and community organizations. The legislation promotes service integration and innovation through the Interagency Coordinating Committee, which will improve connectivity between regional and downstate systems, intercity rail, and bus networks. Downstate regions will receive historic levels of public transit funding under the plan.

Additional provisions include creating a unified fare system, requiring all newly purchased buses to be zeroemission vehicles in alignment with Illinois’ climate goals, and mandating Senate confirmation for NITA board appointments to enhance accountability and transparency. “Through this measure, we are ensuring that Illinoisans, no matter where they live, have access to safe, reliable, affordable, and integrated public transit for years to come,” Villivalam said.

Senate Bill 2111 passed the Illinois Senate on Friday, representing a major milestone in building a modern, equitable transit future for Illinois.

Panels delved into topics such as the intersection of philanthropy and technology, amplifying community voices, and balancing scale with depth of impact.

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi encouraged Indian Americans to pair civic engagement with generosity, while entrepreneur Desh Deshpande, in his keynote address, urged donors to embody Gandhi’s enduring values of truth, nonviolence, and service.

Suhas Demands Probe Into Trump-Era Secret Messages

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Suhas Subramanyam, along with House Oversight Committee Ranking Member Robert Garcia, has launched a formal inquiry into the Trump administration’s use of private messaging platforms for government business. On October 29, the lawmakers sent records preservation requests to the CEO of Truth Social and officials at X (formerly Twitter).

The move follows reports that a recent Truth Social post by President Trump—apparently addressed to Attorney General Pam Bondi—may have been intended as a private message. The revelation has raised concerns about the administration’s potential use of unauthorized apps and personal accounts for official communications.

The letters direct both platforms to preserve all records from January 20, 2025, onward that pertain to private messages, content, and data involving any member of the Trump administration.

“It’s rich that a president who built his political brand on communications security is now relying on private, unauthorized platforms for government business,” Subramanyam said. “The American people deserve transparency and oversight over these communication practices.” The correspondence explicitly instructs Truth Social and X not to delete, alter, or dispose of any relevant materials. The Oversight Committee’s request includes all communications with foreign government officials and messages discussing official U.S. government business. The investigation seeks to determine whether the Trump administration’s use of these platforms circumvented official channels, mishandled sensitive discussions, or violated federal recordkeeping laws.

TAMPA, FL — At least 15 people were injured Thursday when a JetBlue flight bound for New Jersey suddenly lost altitude and was forced to make an emergency landing in Florida, officials said.

JetBlue Flight 1230 departed from Cancún International Airport en route to Newark Liberty International Airport when the aircraft abruptly dropped in altitude, according to a statement from the airline.

The pilots diverted the plane to Tampa International Airport, where it landed safely around 2 p.m., the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed.

Data from Flightradar24 indicated

the aircraft plunged roughly 100 feet in seven seconds at about 1:48 p.m., before beginning a controlled descent into Tampa.

Upon landing, the flight was met by medical personnel, who evaluated passengers and crew members. JetBlue

said that those requiring further care were transported to local hospitals.

Officials told CNN that at least 15 people — including children — sustained injuries, though the nature and severity of those injuries were not immediately known.

The airline did not specify how many passengers and crew were on board, but the aircraft type seats 162 people, according to JetBlue’s website.

JetBlue said the plane has been taken out of service for inspection, and both the airline and the FAA are investigating the incident.

“The safety of our customers and crewmembers is always our first priority, and we will work to support those involved,” JetBlue said in a statement.

The FBI and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) are leading efforts to target sophisticated cartels, foreign terrorist organizations, and transnational gangs whose list of crimes include homicide, kidnapping, human trafficking, extortion, and smuggling drugs across our borders.

“The FBI and our partners are united behind one common goal: protecting the American people,” said FBI SAC DePodesta. “Our agencies are committed to ending the senseless and irreparable damage caused to our communities by violence connected to these threats. Through the robust investigation,

identification, and disruption of these bad actors, we are ensuring that our borders and communities remain protected.”

“The HSTF is a vital initiative to protect the American people and dismantle dangerous transnational criminal organizations. DHS Ends Automatic Extension of Employment Authorization

WASHINGTON, DC- The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued an interim final rule ending the practice of automatically extending Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) for certain noncitizens who file renewal applications. This rule reflects DHS’s renewed focus on ensuring that all employment authorization decisions are made following thorough screening and vetting procedures.

Effective October 30, 2025, noncitizens who submit EAD renewal applications on or after this date will no longer receive automatic extensions of their work authorization. Limited exceptions apply, including extensions provided by law or through Federal Register notices related to Temporary Protected Status (TPS) employment documentation.

By discontinuing automatic extensions, DHS will conduct more frequent background reviews of individuals applying for work authorization in the United States. These additional vetting measures are intended to strengthen fraud prevention and help identify individuals who may pose security concerns, enabling U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to take appropriate enforcement action when necessary.

“USCIS is placing a renewed emphasis on robust screening and vetting of noncitizens, reversing prior policies that prioritized convenience over national security,” said USCIS Director Joseph Edlow. “This commonsense measure ensures that proper vetting has been completed before any employment authorization is extended. Working in the United States is a privilege, not a right.”

Illinois Bans Immigration Arrests Near Courthouses

CHICAGO, IL – Illinois lawmakers have approved a bill banning federal immigration arrests near courthouses and allowing lawsuits for rights violations during such arrests. The measure, backed largely along party lines, now awaits Gov. JB Pritzker’s approval, which he supports. The bill permits migrants to seek civil damages for false imprisonment if detained while attending court. Supporters say it ensures access to justice without fear, though Senate President Don Harmon acknowledged possible legal challenges.A Cook County judge recently issued a similar order blocking courthouse arrests, while federal officials insist there are no “sanctuaries” from enforcement. The legislation also requires hospitals, daycare centers, and colleges to adopt policies on handling immigration agents—mirroring protections in California and Connecticut.

The opening ceremony began with a heartfelt prayer and blessing by Rev. Dr. John Reynolds of Michigan and Mrs. Prasoona Bandi of Bethel Church, Chicago. Mr. Jason Bandi, former Deacon of CSI Wesley Indian Church of Chicago, delivered an inspiring motivational speech encouraging the young players to aim higher in life and inviting youth from all Indian communities to join the Indo-American Youth Nation Basketball League.

FDA Cracks Down on Unapproved Fluoride Products Marketed to Children

WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced new actions to restrict the sale of unapproved ingestible fluoride prescription drugs marketed for children. Notices were sent to four companies warning of enforcement measures against those selling unapproved fluoride-containing products labeled for use in children under 3 years old or in older children at low or moderate risk for tooth decay.

“This Halloween, the FDA is protecting our kids from outdated science and the dangers of ingestible fluoride,” said Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. “These products have been used for decades without approval. Today’s action raises awareness, informs medical professionals, and supports President Trump’s commitment to Make Our

Children Healthy Again.”

The decision follows the Make Our Children Healthy Again Strategy, launched on September 9, 2025, which directed the FDA to review fluoride products. FDA Commissioner Marty Makary, M.D., M.P.H., emphasized that safer, evidence-based alternatives exist, noting that ingestible fluoride may alter the gut microbiome, a key factor in children’s health and development.

After months of scientific review, public meetings, and stakeholder engagement, the FDA concluded that ingestible fluoride products have not been proven safe or effective. The agency found no evidence of benefit in baby teeth and cited potential risks, including microbiome disruption and possible IQ reduction linked to fluoride exposure.

The FDA has sent letters to healthcare professionals warning of these risks and, in partnership with the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Health and Human Services, will develop a fluoride research agenda and the nation’s first oral health strategy. This initiative aims to fill research gaps and advance safer, more effective methods to prevent childhood tooth decay—the most common chronic disease among U.S. children.

stellar performance—16 points, 16 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block. Chief Guest Mrs. Urmila John Golapalli, a noted church and community leader, presented the championship trophy to Legends captain Japheth Bandi. Mr. Arun Polepaka, honored as the 100th cricket player of Illinois, awarded the MVP trophy to Jared Bandi and encouraged youth to explore cricket in their neighborhoods.

A highlight of this year’s celebration was the introduction of a children’s basketball exhibition for ages 4–10, who played during halftime and received medals for their enthusiasm. Dr. Regi Paul reflected on the tournament’s 26-year journey, noting that despite challenges and lack of sponsorship, the event continues to thrive—uniting youth while promoting health, fitness, and friendship. He emphasized the initiative’s goal of reducing teenage diabetes through sports participation and announced the launch of a “Traveling Basketball Team” to compete with other community and church leagues nationwide. The event concluded in a festive, family-friendly atmosphere filled with music, food, and fellowship. Cecil Maddela served as Chief Scorekeeper, Jeremy Gosu managed DJ and technical operations, and Dr. Regi Paul delivered the vote of thanks, bringing another memorable year of community spirit and youth achievement to a close.
