"Don't Want To Punish India"

The remarks came as the Donald Trump administration in the US slapped 50 per cent tariffs on Indian imports -- among the highest globally -- 25 per cent of which are tied to New Delhi's Russian oil trade.

Deported, Claims Shackling, Meal Denial

The Sikh Coalition, a Sikh civil rights organization, released a statement alleging that Kaur endured harsh treatment while in ICE custody, including being shackled during transport, denied access to vegetarian meals, forced to sleep on the floor, and deprived of medicine, hygiene supplies, and water.

Fees, validity period, new rules, latest policy and changes you must know

A new $100,000 fee and a weighted lottery system are the most significant changes affecting the H-1B visa program in 2025. These changes were introduced by a presidential proclamation signed on September 19, 2025, and are expected to apply to the 2026 lottery and all subsequent new H-1B petitions. The standard validity period of the visa remains unchanged.

$100,000 fee for new petitions

New policies and rules

• Effective date: The fee applies to all new H-1B petitions filed on or after September 21, 2025.

• What it covers: The $100,000 is a one-time payment required from employers who file a new H-1B petition.

• Who is affected: This fee does not apply to: Previously approved H-1B petitions.

Current H-1B visa holders seeking extensions or renewals.

Current H-1B visa holders traveling in and out of the U.S.

• National interest exception: An exception to the fee may be granted for individuals, companies, or industries deemed in the "national interest". The specific process for requesting an exemption has not yet been announced.

• Controversy and litigation: The proclamation is expected to face legal challenges regarding its implementation without the standard public notice and comment period required by federal law.

Weighted H-1B lottery

• Prioritizing wages: The Department of Homeland Security has proposed a weighted lottery that would give higher-paid workers a greater chance of selection.

• Tiered system: Under the proposal, beneficiaries would be placed into one of four wage tiers based on the job's offered salary, with higher-paying tiers receiving more entries in the lottery.

• Effective for 2026: If finalized, this new lottery system would apply to the H-1B cap for Fiscal Year 2026 and subsequent years.

Fees for 2025 (pre-September 21)

For H-1B cap registrations and petitions filed before September 21, 2025, the standard fee structure applies.

• Registration fee: The fee for each H-1B registration for the FY 2026 cap was $215.

• Prevailing wage increase: The Department of Labor has proposed revising and raising prevailing wage levels for H-1B positions.

Visa validity period

The standard duration for an H-1B visa remains unchanged.

• Initial duration: An initial H-1B petition can be granted for up to three years.

• Extensions: The visa can be extended for an additional three years, for a maximum stay of six years.

• Exceeding six years: In some cases, such as for individuals with pending green card applications, extensions beyond the six-year limit may be possible.

Trump demands inquiry over UN 'triple sabotage'

Donald Trump has demanded an investigation into what he called a "triple sabotage" during his visit to the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday.

In a post on social media, the US president referred to an escalator abruptly stopping as he and First Lady Melania Trump stepped on, a teleprompter malfunctioning during his speech, and an audio issue in the auditorium.

A UN official said the sound system was designed to allow people to hear translated speeches through earpieces. The UN previously said a safety mechanism might have been triggered by Trump's videographer who had been travelling backwards up the escalator while the teleprompter belonged to the US delegation.

Trump criticised the incidents on Truth Social and said he was sending a letter to the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres demanding an immediate probe.

'Anti-ICE'
"A REAL DISGRACE took place at the United Nations yesterday - Not one, not two, but three very sinister events!"

"A REAL DISGRACE took place at the United Nations yesterday - Not one, not two, but three very sinister events!" he wrote. "This wasn't a coincidence, this was triple sabotage at the UN. They

ought to be ashamed of themselves."

He also called for the arrest of the people responsible for the escalator incident, referencing an article in the Times that said UN workers joked about turning

message on ammunition at Dallas shooting that killed immigration

detainee

A detainee has died and two others are critically injured after a rooftop sniper opened fire at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) centre in Dallas, Texas, officials say. The gunman fired indiscriminately at the ICE facility and at a nearby unmarked van, law enforcement officials say, before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No law enforcement were injured. FBI Director Kash Patel posted a photo on X of unused ammunition recovered from the scene. One casing has the phrase "ANTI-ICE" on it. It is the latest in a string of attacks on ICE facilities in recent months as the agency ramps up efforts to deliver on US President Donald Trump's pledge for mass deportations.

"While the investigation is ongoing, an initial review of the evidence shows an ideological motive behind this attack," Patel wrote on X.

"These despicable, politically motivated attacks against law enforcement are not a one-off."

Dallas police said officers responded to an assist officer call at the facility around 06:40 local time (11:40 GMT).

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said three detainees were shot. One has died, and two were critically injured, it said. They remain in critical condition, officials later said.

The department had initially said two people had died in addition to the shooter, only to revise that information conditions hours later.

One injured detainee is a Mexican national, the Mexican foreign ministry said.

Acting ICE director Todd Lyons identified the shooter as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, the BBC's US partner, CBS News reported. He died of a selfinflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.

off the escalators.

"This was absolutely sabotage... All security tapes at the escalator should be saved, especially the emergency stop button. The Secret Service is involved," Trump added.

Mike Waltz, US ambassador to the UN, echoed the president's call for an official probe, saying the incidents were "unacceptable".

"The United States will not tolerate threats to our security or dignity at international forums. We expect swift cooperation and decisive action," he wrote on X. On Wednesday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt raised concerns that someone deliberately stopped the escalator.

"If someone at the UN intentionally stopped the escalator as the President and First Lady were stepping on, they need to be fired and investigated immediately," she wrote on X after the incident. Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for Guterres, said Trump's videographer "may have inadvertently triggered the safety function" while filming the couple.

US Sanctions 2 Indians Over Fentanyl Pills

Washington:

The United States has sanctioned two Indian nations over accusations of running online pharmacies that sold fake prescription pills filled with deadly drugs like fentanyl and methamphetamine to American consumers. The US Department of the Treasury said Sadiq Abbas Habib Sayyed (39) and Khizar Mohammad Iqbal Shaikh (34) collectively supplied "hundreds of thousands of counterfeit prescription pills filled with fentanyl and other illicit drugs" to victims across the United States.

Important To Defend Its Authority: China Defends UN Against Trump's Criticism

China has thrown its weight behind the United Nations, stressing that the world body remains essential to global stability, in sharp contrast to US President Donald Trump's attack on the institution on Tuesday, during his speech at the UN General Assembly.

Speaking at a press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun praised the UN's track record since its founding eight decades ago. Over the past 80 years, the UN has played an irreplaceable role in safeguarding international peace and security and promoting global development, he said.

"China always believes that in a world as turbulent as ours, it is all the more important to uphold and defend the authority of the UN", he told a media briefing.

His comments came directly in response to Trump's sharp rebuke of the UN during his address to the General Assembly in

UK formally recognises Palestinian state

Sir Keir Starmer has announced the UK's recognition of a Palestinian state, in what represents a significant change in government policy.

In a video statement on X, the prime minister said: "In the face of the growing horror in the Middle East we are acting to keep alive the possibility of peace and a two-state solution."Australia, Canada and Portugal also announced formal recognition of the state of Palestine, with France expected to follow.

New York. Trump, while later voicing "100 per cent support" for UN SecretaryGeneral Antonio Guterres, did not hold back in his criticism of the organisation.

"It is not even coming close to living up to that potential," he said, accusing the UN of failing to deliver concrete results.

"For the most part, at least for now, all

China makes landmark pledge to cut

its climate emissions

China, the world's biggest source of planet-warming gases, has for the first time committed to an absolute target to cut its emissions.

In a video statement to the UN in New York, President Xi Jinping said that China would reduce its greenhouse gas

emissions across the economy by 7-10% by 2035, while "striving to do better".

The announcement comes at a time the US is rolling back on its commitments, with President Donald Trump on Tuesday calling climate change a "con job".

But some critics said China's plan did not go as far as hoped to keep global climate goals in reach.

"Even for those with tempered expectations, what's presented today still falls short," said Yao Zhe, global policy adviser at Greenpeace East Asia.

While the year's big gathering of global leaders will be at COP30 in Brazil in November, this week's UN meeting in New York has extra relevance because countries are running out of time to submit their new climate plans.

Kremlin Responds to Trump: Russia Is a Real Bear, Not a Paper Tiger

Russia on Wednesday rejected the comments by US President Donald Trump and said that it was economically stable despite sanctions and that it was not a "paper tiger" but a "real bear". Trump in a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the UN conference had urged Kyiv to take advantage of Russia's economic weakness and take back all of the seized territory. Russia currently controls about one-fifth of Ukraine.

In a sudden rhetorical twist, Trump wrote on social media, "I think

Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form".

He added, "Putin and Russia are in BIG Economic trouble, and this is the time for Ukraine to act," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov brushed off Trump's comment describing Russia as a "paper tiger", saying that Russia was a bear, not a tiger, and there was no such thing as a paper bear.

Trump dismissed Russia's might and said that it is taking three and a half years to win a war for which any "real military power" would have taken less than a week.

they seem to do is write a really strongly worded letter and then never follow that letter. It's empty words and empty words don't solve wars."

China, which is both a founding member of the UN and a permanent member of the Security Council, emphasised its continued support for the institution's central role in global governance.

"China stands ready to work with other member states to renew the founding mission of the UN, reaffirm the commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and revitalise the UN's authority and vigour in the new era, so as to play a bigger role for safeguarding world peace, promoting common development and building a community with a shared future for humanity," Guo said. He also highlighted China's own contributions to UN-led initiatives. Premier Li Qiang, currently attending the UNGA in New York, addressed a high-level session on the Global Development Initiative (GDI).

Drone activity confirmed at multiple airports in Denmark

Denmark's Aalborg airport in the country's north has been closed after unauthorised drones were seen in its airspace, according to local authorities. Three other smaller airports in the southern region - Esbjerg, Sønderborg and Skrydstrup - also reported drone activity, but were not closed.

Colombian President Labels US Drug Boat Attacks ‘Tyranny’

US airstrikes on alleged drug-trafficking boats in the Caribbean Sea are an "act of tyranny", Colombia's President Gustavo Petro told the BBC in an interview where he also called for criminal proceedings against US officials if investigations find Colombians were killed in the attacks.

President Donald Trump has cast the strikes, which have reportedly killed 17 since they began this month, as needed to stop the flow of fentanyl and other illegal narcotics into the US.

Tharoor Urges IndianAmericans to Speak Out on H-1B Visa

Zofeen Maqsood

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor speaking in New Delhi while welcoming a visiting U.S. Congressional delegation, pointed towards the diaspora's limited voices on issues affecting India and IndianAmericans alike whether it is H-1B visa or trade policies. He noted that the five-member delegation, all Democrats and four from California, expressed “tremendous interest in India” and reaffirmed the U.S. Congress’s support for the India–U.S. strategic partnership.

But Tharoor shared that one of the visiting congresswomen mentioned that she had not received a single call from an Indian-American voter urging her to support policy changes. “This is something that is surprising,” Tharoor said. “If you care about the relationship with your motherland, then you also have to fight for it, speak for it, and press your political representatives to stand up for India.” It may be noted that some of the most successful IndianAmericans including Sundar Pichai of Google and Satya Nadella of Microsoft arrived in the U.S. on H-1B visas. But most big executives have largely remained silent on Trump's proposed $100,000 fee for new petitions.

Canada Acts Against 3 Khalistanis After Doval’s Warning

Ottawa:

The Canadian police arrested three Khalistani terrorists -- including Gurpatwant Singh Pannun's close aide, Inderjeet Singh Gosal -over firearms-related charges last week. The three separatists were arrested during a traffic stop operation in Ontario on September 19, according to authorities. The arrests happened just a day after National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and his Canadian counterpart Nathalie Drouin held wide-ranging talks in New Delhi with a focus on repairing the bilateral relations that came under severe strain following a diplomatic spat over the killing of Sikh separatist Nijjar in 2023.

"Don't Want To Punish India"

Trump Aide's Remark And A Crude Suggestion

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright has urged India to reconsider its discounted Russian crude purchases, emphasizing that Washington does not intend to punish New Delhi with tariffs but aims to end Moscow’s military actions in Ukraine. Speaking from New York, Wright said India buys Russian oil because it is cheaper, but in doing so, it indirectly funds Russia’s war. He urged India to consider alternative sources of oil, highlighting that the US and other countries can meet its energy needs.

The remarks came as the Donald Trump administration in the US slapped 50 per cent tariffs on Indian imports -- among the highest globally -- 25 per cent of which are tied to New Delhi's Russian oil trade.

Wright stressed that the US sees a “bright future” with India and wants closer alignment on the Ukraine conflict. He emphasized that Washington wishes to expand energy cooperation in natural gas, coal, nuclear, LPG, and clean cooking fuels, while strengthening overall trade ties. “We don’t want to punish India. We want to end the war and

grow our relations,” he said. The remarks follow the Trump administration’s imposition of 50% tariffs on certain Indian imports, with 25% linked to Russian oil purchases. President Trump has accused India of indirectly supporting Russia’s attacks in Ukraine. Wright, however, noted that India shares the US goal of ending the war and is a key trading partner.

He described his meeting with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in January, emphasizing ongoing dialogue to find “creative ways to bring this war to an end.” Wright reiterated that addressing sanctioned Russian oil’s redirection to India, China, and Turkey remains a key friction point, but the priority remains ending the conflict while deepening US-India energy and trade cooperation.

Indian-Origin Man Kills US Sex Offender After Chase

Indian-origin man Varun Suresh, 29, has been charged with murder in Fremont, California, for fatally stabbing 71-year-old registered sex offender David Brimmer. Police said the attack was premeditated, as Suresh used California’s Megan’s Law database to track Brimmer, who had served prison time for child sexual assault.

Disguised as a CPA, Suresh confronted

Varun Suresh admitted to police that he used California's Megan's Law database to locate Brimmer, a convicted child sex offender.

Brimmer, chased him through a neighborhood, and slit his throat while telling him to “repent.” He later admitted he had long wanted to kill a sex offender, calling the act “really fun” and showing no remorse. Authorities recovered screenshots of offender profiles on his phone, including Brimmer’s taken shortly before the attack. Suresh was previously arrested in 2021 for a fake bomb threat linked to his belief that a hotel CEO was a pedophile. He now faces charges of murder, burglary, and use of a deadly weapon, and remains in custody.

Canada FM Anita Anand to Visit India Next Month

Ottawa: Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand is set to visit India next month, where she will meet External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, sources told NDTV. The October visit will be the first time the Foreign Ministers of either country will be visiting the other since the bilateral ties nosedived in 2023 after the previous Justin Trudeau government in Ottawa accused New Delhi of being involved in assassination plots against Sikh separatist leaders on Canadian soil.

73-year-old grandmother Harjit Kaur, who was detained by United States customs and Immigration (ICE) on September 8, has been deported to India after being abruptly detained during a routine immigration check-in in California. According to her attorney, Deepak Ahluwalia, Kaur had been attending check-ins in Hercules, California, for more than 13 years before she was taken into custody on September 8. She was later transferred without notice to a facility in Georgia and placed on a charter flight to India on September 19. Her family, who had purchased a commercial ticket to accompany her back to Punjab, were not informed of

the transfer.

The Sikh Coalition, a Sikh civil rights organization, released a statement alleging that Kaur endured harsh

treatment while in ICE custody, including being shackled during transport, denied access to vegetarian meals, forced to sleep on the floor, and deprived of medicine, hygiene supplies, and water. She was also prohibited from showering during her detention. “It is despicable that any human should be treated this way, and downright sickening that a 73-year-old woman was forced to endure it,” the group said in a statement. Kaur has since landed in India and is traveling to Punjab.

India Seeks H-1B Relief in US Trade Talks

India is set to expand its trade negotiations with the United States to include the services sector after President Donald Trump unexpectedly raised the fee for new H-1B visa applications to $100,000, a move that could heavily impact India’s IT industry.

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is in the U.S. this week to primarily negotiate a merchandise trade deal, but the visa hike has prompted New Delhi to press for relief for Indian workers.

The visa fee increase disproportionately affects Indians, who account for nearly two-thirds of H-1B holders, putting thousands of tech jobs at risk and threatening

Murdochs likely to be involved in US TikTok deal, Trump says

Rupert Murdoch and his son Lachlan are expected to be part of a group of investors trying to buy TikTok in the US, President Donald Trump says. In a Fox News interview that aired on Sunday, Trump said the men would "probably" be involved in a proposed deal to keep TikTok operating in the US. He also said Oracle chairman Larry Ellison and Dell founder Michael Dell would likely be involved. "I think they're going to do a really good job," Trump said, describing the men as "American patriots".

Commerce minister Piyush Goyal’s visit shifts focus from tariffs to services sector amid immigration crackdown and pressure on India’s tech industry

the $280-billion IT services industry. Under the original Indo-U.S. bilateral trade agreement plan, services were to be discussed in later phases, but the H-1B issue has accelerated its inclusion.

India has previously sought greater mobility for its workers in other trade talks. For instance, U.K. free trade discussions stalled in 2022 over visa provisions, though a deal was reached this year allowing 1,800 visas for contractual services. India is also pressing for easier worker mobility in ongoing talks with the European Union.

The broader trade negotiations remain uncertain amid the visa hike, punitive tariffs, and Trump’s demand that India stop buying Russian oil. Despite this, discussions continue, with Goyal and U.S. officials describing recent meetings as positive.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that India-U.S. relations remain “of critical importance.”

Still, the combined challenges of tariffs and immigration restrictions suggest that reaching a comprehensive trade agreement could take considerable time and careful negotiation.

Google Faces US Antitrust Trial Over AdX Monopoly

Alphabet's Google will seek to avoid a forced sale of part of its online advertising business in its latest face-off with U.S. antitrust enforcers at a trial starting on Monday in Alexandria, Virginia. The trial is the government's next best shot at curbing what a judge has ruled is Google's monopoly power, after losing a separate bid to make Google sell its Chrome browser earlier this month. Online publishers and

rival ad tech developers, some of whom have separately sued Google for damages, will be watching the case closely.

The U.S. Department of Justice and a coalition of states are seeking to make Google sell its ad exchange, AdX, where online publishers pay Google a 20% fee to sell ads in auctions that happen instantly when users load websites.

The government also seeks to require Google to make the mechanism that decides the winner of those auctions open source. U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema, who will preside over the trial, ruled in April that Google holds unlawful monopolies in web advertising technology.

New home sales in US jump to fastest pace in three years

Sales of new homes in the US surged by more than expected last month as builders ramped up discounts to lure buyers sitting on the sidelines. New single family home sales rose 20.5% in August to an annualised rate of 800,000 units, the US Census Bureau reported on Wednesday. It was the fastest pace since early 2022 and well above economists' forecasts, signalling a burst of activity in a frozen housing market.

Analysts said the uptick was propelled by price discounts and and other sales incentives from builders, who are grappling with an oversupply of newly-

Porsche shares plunge after announcing EV rollout delay

Porsche's stock tumbled by more than 7% on Monday after warning last week that delays in its electric vehicle (EV) rollout will dent the carmaker's 2025 earnings. Caught between electrification and its iconic petrol-powered sports cars, the German firm said it will slow its push for EVs as demand weakens. Shares of its parent Volkswagen also fell by more than 7% on the same day after saying it will spend billions to overhaul Porsche's line-up of vehicles. The companies' struggles reflect the challenges for European manufacturers, who are faced with intense competition from Chinese rivals and a slowing economy that's dampening demand for luxury cars.

UK is open to overseas talent unlike US, Reeves says

The UK will make it easier to attract global talent at a time when the US is making it harder, the chancellor has said, in a direct reference to a recent overhaul of American visa policy.

On Friday, US President Donald Trump announced a 50-fold hike in the cost of skilledworker permits to $100,000 (£74,000), causing confusion as staff from US tech firms rushed back to the USA.

"While President Trump announced late last week that it will make it harder to bring talent to the US, we want to make it easier to bring talent to the UK," Rachel Reeves said on Tuesday.

built homes for sale. Easing borrowing costs, ahead of the Federal Reserve's interest rate cut, also supported the surge, economists noted. But new homes only account for about 14% of the US home sales. The housing market, more broadly, remains persistently frozen as affordability constraints shut out prospective buyers.

Michelob Ultra has become the top-selling beer in the US two year's after its parent company's Bud Light brand lost the title following a consumer backlash.

Anheuser-Busch, citing data from Circana, said on Monday that Michelob Ultra overtook Modelo Especial in US retail sales by volume in the year to 14 September.

Two years ago, Anheuser-Busch's Bud Light brand's sales slumped after a boycott over its work with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Meanwhile, Constellation, which owns Modelo and Corona, has previously blamed its falling beer sales on tougher US immigration policies causing a drop in Hispanic consumers in the US.

Trump Administration Plans to End H-1B Lottery

The U.S. has proposed major changes to the H-1B visa program following President Trump’s $100,000 fee hike. The Department of Homeland Security plans to replace the lottery system with a wagebased weighted selection, giving higher-paid, senior workers multiple entries and better odds of selection, while entry-level employees would have fewer chances. The move is intended to prioritize highly skilled talent and curb abuses, but it may disadvantage startups and earlycareer workers.

Indians make up 71% of H-1B approvals, and the fee hike and lottery changes could significantly impact Indian IT firms like TCS, Infosys, and Wipro, potentially reducing U.S. hiring or shifting jobs back to India. The proposal comes amid visits by Indian officials Piyush Goyal and S. Jaishankar to meet Trump administration representatives, highlighting growing tensions over skilled worker mobility and trade relations.

Delhi Baba Accused by 17 women, Car Has Fake Plates

Women faculty and administrative staff also pressured the students to comply with the demands of the accused, the victims alleged.

Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, director of the Sri Sharda Institute of Indian Management in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj, has been accused by at least 17 female students of sexual harassment, including abusive language, lewd messages, and forced physical contact, with some staff allegedly pressuring compliance. The accused, still at large and last seen near Agra, faces police action including raids and CCTV verification. Authorities also seized his Volvo with a forged diplomatic plate. Following the allegations, the ashram expelled him, and its South India parent body, Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetha, Sringeri, condemned his conduct and severed all ties.

New Delhi: As chaos shrouds the United States' H-1B visa programme following Team Trump's $100,000 fee hike, Germany is seizing the moment to attract Indian professionals. German Ambassador to India, Philipp Ackermann, has issued an open call to "highly skilled Indians" to take on the job opportunities in the European nation's IT, management, science and tech sectors.

"Here is my call to all highly skilled Indians. Germany stands out with its stable migration policies, and with

great job opportunities for Indians in IT, management, science and tech," Ackermann wrote on X on Tuesday. In a video shared alongside the post, the envoy pointed out that Indians are among the top-earning group in Germany.

"The average Indian working in Germany earns more than the average German working in Germany. Because a high salary means Indians are contributing big time to our society and our welfare. We believe in hard work and giving the best jobs to the best people," he said.

"Our migration policy works a bit like a German car. It's reliable, it is modern, it is predictable. It will go in a straight line with no zigzags. And you don't have to fear a full break at the top speed," Ackermann said, adding that Germany does not change its rules fundamentally overnight.

tear gas and lathi charges to disperse the crowd.

The unrest follows growing dissatisfaction since Ladakh became a separate Union Territory in August 2019, after the abrogation of Article 370. Residents, citing a political vacuum under the Lieutenant Governor, have repeatedly called for statehood and protection of land, culture, and resources. For the first time, Buddhistmajority Leh and Muslim-majority Kargil groups united under the Apex Body of Leh and Kargil Democratic Alliance. Previous talks with the central government, including a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah, failed, as demands for statehood and Sixth Schedule status were rejected. A fresh round of discussions is scheduled for October 6.

India Eyes Higher Energy Trade With US: Goyal

New York: India expects to increase its trade with the US in energy products in the years to come, and the country's energy security goals will have a significant element of US involvement, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said. "Clearly, the world recognizes that (energy security) is one area where we all have to work together. India is a big player in the energy field... we are big importers of energy from across the world, including from the US," Mr Goyal said here on Tuesday. Mr Goyal is leading a delegation for meetings in New York with the US side to achieve an early conclusion of a bilateral trade agreement.

Yale Scholar Slams H-1B Fee Hike, Says Countries Crave IIT Graduates

Yale scholar Gautam Mukunda has strongly criticised President Trump’s $100,000 H-1B visa fee, warning it could undermine the U.S.’s ability to attract top global talent. Mukunda said the move is economically shortsighted, as countries worldwide would compete to hire graduates from elite institutions like India’s IITs, yet the U.S. is effectively turning away these highly skilled professionals. “Every country in the world would kill to get the best IIT graduates. But America is throwing this asset away for no reason. This H-1B visa decision makes no sense at all,” he said. Mukunda also noted that American business leaders privately oppose

the hike but remain silent out of fear of reprisal from the administration, suggesting the policy may serve more as a political gesture than genuine reform.

Yale scholar Gautam Mukunda strongly criticised the H-1B visa policy, arguing that it makes no economic sense for the US.

Economists warn the fee increase could slow economic growth, as U.S. tech firms heavily rely on Indian engineers and scientists. Companies like Google, Microsoft, and Apple may struggle to recruit top talent, while Indian-origin professionals continue to play key roles in driving innovation. With nearly 6% of U.S. physicians of Indian origin, critics say the fee risks eroding America’s global competitiveness and its ability to retain skilled professionals trained abroad.

Doctors May Get H-1B Fee Exemption

The Trump administration may exempt doctors from the new $100,000 H-1B visa fee, White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers told Bloomberg. The fee, a sharp rise from the current $215, can be waived if the Secretary of Homeland Security deems hiring certain workers in the national interest. The clarification follows concerns from medical bodies about a potential doctor shortage, especially in rural areas, as the high fee could limit international medical graduates entering the U.S. The White House stressed the fee does not apply to current visa holders or affect their travel abroad. The policy took effect Sunday at 12:01 a.m. Eastern.

Trump TylenolAutism Claim Debunked

Feigl-Ding said no other country apart from the US was endorsing the theory

Monday's announcement was the latest example of how Trump has sought to upend health guidance and practices, sometimes relying on cherry-picked evidence.

US President Donald Trump, reviving debunked theories linking vaccines and autism, urged pregnant women to avoid Tylenol, citing unproven risks, while Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. supported the claim. Experts, including epidemiologist Eric Feigl-Ding, strongly refuted the warning, stressing that acetaminophen is safe during pregnancy and that untreated fevers pose far greater risks, including miscarriage and birth defects. Large studies, including one of 2.5 million Swedish children, show no link between Tylenol use and autism. Feigl-Ding criticized the US health department for spreading misinformation, noting no other country endorses the claim. The FDA clarified that while some studies suggest associations, no causal link has been established, and current evidence does not support restricting acetaminophen use for pregnant women.

Rubio: India Remains a Relationship of Critical Importance to the US

During the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to discuss bilateral and international issues of mutual concern. Rubio emphasized that India is a relationship of critical importance to the United States, highlighting continued collaboration in areas such as trade, defense, energy, pharmaceuticals, and critical minerals. Both leaders agreed to work together to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific region, including through the Quad framework. The meeting was the first between the two officials since the Trump administration imposed a 50% tariff on Indian goods and increased the H-1B visa fee to $100,000. Despite

these tensions, sources described the hour-long discussion as positive and candid, with both sides agreeing to sustained engagement to address

priority areas. Minister Jaishankar echoed this sentiment, stating that the conversation covered a range of issues and reaffirmed the importance of continued dialogue.

“False Hindu God”: GOP Remark on Hanuman Sparks Row

Unveiled in 2024, the 'Statue of Union' is one of the tallest Hindu monuments in the United States. It was envisioned by Sri Chinnajeeyar Swamiji and is the third-tallest statue in the United States

A Texas Republican leader has sparked outrage over his remarks about a 90-foot statue of Lord Hanuman, known as the 'Statue of Union,' in Sugar Land, Texas. Alexander Duncan, a Senate candidate and member of President Trump’s party, called Hanuman a “false Hindu God” and questioned why the statue was allowed in the US, describing the nation as “a CHRISTIAN nation.” He also cited the Bible, quoting Exodus 20:3-4, warning against idols. His statements drew swift backlash. The Hindu American Foundation condemned the remarks as “anti-Hindu and inflammatory” and formally reported the incident to the Texas Republican Party, urging disciplinary action. Social media users also criticized Duncan, reminding him that the US Constitution

guarantees freedom of religion and that the Vedas predate and influenced many other religious texts, including Christianity.

The 'Statue of Union,' unveiled in 2024, is one of the tallest Hindu monuments in the US and the third-tallest statue in the country. It was envisioned by Sri Chinnajeeyar Swamiji and stands at the Shri Ashtalakshmi Temple. The controversy highlights ongoing debates over religious freedom, respect for cultural monuments, and the role of personal beliefs in public political discourse. Duncan’s comments continue to draw attention, prompting discussions on tolerance, religious diversity, and the responsibilities of public figures in a multicultural society.

Indian IBM Employee Secures O-1 Visa After H-1B Rejections

Tanush Sharanarthi attributed his O-1 visa approval to his exceptional work and research in artificial intelligence

Bengaluru techie Tanush Sharanarthi, now working at IBM in California, secured an O-1 visa after being rejected three times for an H-1B. He attributes his success to his “extraordinary ability” in artificial intelligence, emphasizing

consistent effort—late nights, building products, publishing research, and contributing to his field—rather than relying on luck.

Sharanarthi expressed gratitude to his family, mentors, colleagues, and IBM for their support throughout the journey. On social media, he shared that building a strong profile early, meeting multiple criteria, collaborating with peers, and working on exciting projects were key to his approval.

His story has resonated widely, inspiring many in similar situations. Commenters praised his determination, noting how he turned setbacks into motivation and demonstrated that consistent effort and expertise can open doors, even when luck in visa lotteries falls short.

Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings, who has worked on H1-B policy for three decades, has praised US President Donald Trump's move to slap a $100,000 fee on employers hiring foreign workers. China Unveils ‘K

Visa’ for Global Talent

Beijing: As US President Donald Trump's new $100,000 visa fee sets off panic and confusion, China has announced a new visa category to lure young science and technology talent. Beijing is adding a 'K visa' to its ordinary visa categories, available to eligible young science and technology professionals. China's Premier Li Qiang has signed a decree to promulgate the decision to amend the regulation on the administration of foreigners' entries and exits. According to a report by news agency Xinhua, the new rules will take effect on October 1.

Indian Firms to Boost US Hires After H-1B Fee Hike

Nasscom said the US clarification that the H-1B visa fee hike will not affect current visa holders and will apply as a one-time fee only to fresh petitions has helped address the immediate ambiguity surrounding eligibility and timelines.

Nasscom said the US clarification that the H-1B visa fee hike of USD 100,000 applies only to new applicants and not existing holders has eased immediate concerns for Indian IT firms and workers. Indian and India-centric companies in the US have already reduced dependence on H-1B visas and are increasingly hiring locally, with over USD 1 billion spent on upskilling and local recruitment. H-1B workers now make up less than 1% of top Indian firms’ US workforce, and the sector anticipates only a marginal impact. The fee hike, effective from 2026, gives companies time to adjust strategies, accelerate local hiring, and strengthen skilled talent mobility, which remains critical for sustaining innovation and competitiveness in the US. The announcement initially caused panic among H-1B holders traveling abroad, but the clarification has reassured the industry that business continuity and visa renewals remain unaffected.

SC Calls Pilot Fuel CutOff Mention ‘Unfortunate’

The Supreme Court described the “pilot error” narrative in the Air India AI 171 crash as “unfortunate” and sought responses from the Centre, DGCA, and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau on a petition for an independent

probe. The preliminary report, released in July, cited cockpit audio suggesting a fuel-cut discussion between Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kundar, fueling speculation of pilot error. The Safety Matters Foundation filed a

30 Dead After Pak Air Force Bombs

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Village

At least 30 people, including women and children, were killed in airstrikes by the Pakistani Air Force in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Monday. The incident took place around 2 am when the Pakistani fighter jets dropped eight LS-6 bombs on the Matre Dara village located in the Tirah Valley, causing a huge massacre.

All of those dead were civilians.

Local media reported that many people have also been injured, but their situation remains unclear.

Disturbing pictures and videos of the incident site showed bodies, including those of children, lying around. Rescue teams were engaged in searching for bodies under rubble, raising fears of the death count rising further.

Many counter-terrorism operations have been carried out in the past in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with many civilian deaths being reported from the region. Earlier this year, in June, Amnesty International had said that recurrent drone strikes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa signal an alarming disregard for civilian life in Pakistan.

"Pakistani authorities have failed to take action to protect the lives and property of civilians in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who continue to pay the price of an escalating number of drone strikes in the province.

Aviation safety NGO Safety Matters Foundation has filed a Public Interest Litigation, alleging that the preliminary report withholds critical information

Public Interest Litigation, alleging the report withholds crucial information, downplays systemic issues such as fuelswitch defects and electrical faults, and prematurely blames the pilots. Senior Advocate Prashant Bhushan noted that more than 100 days after the June 12 crash, only a preliminary report has been issued. He also raised conflict-of-interest concerns, as three of the five-member investigation team are DGCA employees, and criticized leaks suggesting pilots’ responsibility.

The SC bench of Justices Surya Kant and N. Kotiswar Singh acknowledged the need for a fair inquiry but stressed that publicizing findings could affect the probe and harm pilots’ families.

The crash of AI 171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick killed 265 people, including 12 crew, 229 passengers, and 19 on the ground, leaving only one survivor.

Indians Deboard Emirates Flight After Trump H-1B Fee Order

Panic gripped Indian passengers on an Emirates flight from San Francisco after US President Donald Trump announced a $100,000 H-1B visa fee. Several passengers reportedly deboarded before take-off, delaying the flight by three hours. Videos shared on social media showed passengers standing in aisles, scrolling phones, and looking uncertain, while the captain asked anyone wishing to offload themselves to do so amid the “unprecedented” situation. Trump said the fee targets

Roti or Rice at Night: Which Digests Better?

Roti and rice are staple foods in Indian households, providing essential carbohydrates, energy, and vital nutrients. While both are nutritious, they differ in how they affect digestion, satiety, fullness, and sleep patterns. Roti, made from whole wheat or multigrain flour, is high in fiber, digesting slowly and keeping the stomach full longer, which can aid in sustained energy release and prevent sudden spikes in blood sugar. Rice, especially white rice, has lower fiber and digests quickly, making it lighter on the stomach and easier to tolerate before bedtime. Choosing the right dinner option is important, as the digestive system naturally slows at night. Heavy, oily, or hard-to-digest meals can disrupt metabolism and sleep, while lighter options like rice may promote comfort and better rest, supporting overall digestive health, nighttime recovery, and hormonal balance.

R. Madhavan Loses Weight in 21 Days Without Gym

Ranganathan Madhavan has long been admired for his versatile, charismatic roles in Indian cinema, from Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein to Rocketry: The Nambi Effect. At 55, the actor continues to evolve not just in his performances but in how he takes care of his body. What makes his recent transformation stand out is that it wasn't driven by grueling workouts, crash diets, or gimmicks. It was simpler, disciplined, and rooted in mindful living. What did Madhavan do in his 21 day regime?

In a candid conversation, Madhavan revealed a lifestyle reset after doing Rocketry, which helped him shed weight in just three weeks. The changes were subtle but consistent, focusing largely on how and when he ate rather than what extreme diet or exercise routine he followed.

Intermittent Fasting

Madhavan followed a disciplined eating window by stopping all food intake after 6:45 pm. This form of intermittent fasting allowed his body to rest and digest efficiently overnight, helping with weight loss and better metabolism.

Heavy Chewing

A unique aspect of his routine was chewing each bite 45 60 times. He followed the principle of "drink your food and chew your water," which improved digestion, prevented overeating, and gave his brain enough time to register fullness.

Smart Food Choices

After 3 pm, he avoided raw foods entirely. His meals were simple, cooked, and rich in green vegetables. He stayed away from processed items, focusing on clean, home-style eating to nourish his body without burdening it.

Lifestyle Habits

Madhavan replaced workouts with long early morning walks. He prioritized early sleep, deep rest, and reduced screen time at least 90 minutes before bedtime. He also stayed well-hydrated, keeping his fluid intake consistent throughout the day. According to gut health experts, these tweaks work because chewing more thoroughly aids digestion, slower eating helps regulate food intake, and fasting intervals allow the body to process and burn fat efficiently.

Moong Dal Chilla

Moong dal chilla is a light, high-protein pancake made with soaked moong dal and simple spices. It’s quick to cook and keeps you full for a long time, making it great for weight loss. You can enjoy it with green chutney for added taste.

CURD RICE WITH FLAX SEEDS

Curd rice is a comfort dish that can be made in minutes. Using brown rice or leftover rice with fresh curd makes it gut-friendly and cooling. Adding flax seeds increases omega-3 fatty acids and fiber, making it beneficial for weight management. This dish keeps you satisfied while preventing overeating.

Eating After 7 PM: How It Could Affect Your Weight Loss Goals

Most people focusing on weight loss tend to fixate on what they’re eating and how many calories they’re bruning each day. Few understand the importance of the time of meals, and the impact it has on overall health, fitness and weight loss goals. Many nutrition experts point out that late-night eating, especially after 7 pm, may interfere with your body’s natural processes and slow down your progress. Your body runs on a circadian rhythm, which is basically the the internal clock that regulates hormones, digestion, and metabolism. According to Anushi, “Late-night eating may disrupt your body’s circadian rhythm. During the evening, your body's capacity to burn fat and metabolise glucose slows down. Therefore, eating heavy meals late at night may make it more likely that fat will be stored rather than burned.”

In simple terms, your body is less efficient at processing food at night. A plate of rice or pasta eaten at 6:30 pm may be digested and utilised differently from the same meal eaten at 10 pm.

Paneer stir-fry

Paneer stir-fry is a quick meal where paneer cubes are cooked with capsicum, onions, and simple Indian spices. It is rich in protein and helps manage hunger. Adding a squeeze of lemon gives it a fresh, tangy flavor.

Curd with mixed seeds and fruits

This is a refreshing, no-cook meal where thick curd is topped with flaxseeds, chia seeds, and fresh seasonal fruits like papaya or apple. It provides good protein, fiber, and healthy fats, making it filling and perfect for weight loss.

'Return To US Within 24 Hours, Don't Leave'

Meta, Microsoft To H-1B Visa Holders

Major firms like Meta and Microsoft have urged H-1B visa holders to stay in the US for at least two weeks and advised those abroad to return within 24 hours after Trump’s new immigration crackdown.

Trump raised the H-1B fee to $100,000—up from $215—saying it would protect American jobs. The administration also unveiled a “Gold Card” visa program for top talent and investors.

Indians, who make up 71% of H-1B holders, are expected to be hit hardest.

Trump Calls H-1B Abuse a Security Threat

"The abuse of the H-1B programme is also a national security threat. Domestic law enforcement agencies have identified and investigated H-1Breliant outsourcing companies for engaging in visa fraud, conspiracy to launder money... and other illicit activities to encourage foreign workers to come to the United States," he said in the proclamation.

"The H-1B nonimmigrant visa programme was created to bring temporary workers into the United States to perform additive, highskilled functions, but it has been deliberately exploited to replace, rather than supplement, American workers with lower-paid, lowerskilled labour," Trump said in the proclamation.

Piyush

Goyal Set for Washington Visit

With India-U.S. trade talks moving in the right direction, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is expected to visit Washington soon, sources told PTI. Trump Slaps $100,000 Fee on H-1B Visas

Launches $1 Million “Gold Card”

US President Donald Trump, in his latest efforts to crack down on immigration, signed a proclamation imposing a $100,000 (over Rs 88 lakh) fee on H-1B visa applicants.

In a move that can be called an economic earthquake, President Donald Trump on Friday signed a proclamation slapping a staggering $100,000 annual fee on H-1B visas for highly-skilled foreign workers. At the same time, he unveiled a $1 million “gold card” visa as a fast track to U.S. citizenship for the wealthy — and an even more exclusive $5 million “platinum card” that would let elites spend 270 days in America tax-free. If these rules survive the inevitable courtroom battles, the impact will be seismic. The H-1B fee, currently $215, would skyrocket to $100,000, pricing out thousands of engineers, scientists, and professionals who have powered America’s tech backbone for decades.

“It’s just not economic anymore,” admitted Commerce Secretary

Howard Lutnick, predicting far fewer than the 85,000 H-1Bs currently issued each year. For corporations, sponsoring an employee on this new “gold card” will cost $2 million. The “platinum card” once floated as a $5 million investor visa replacement would now become the ticket for the super-rich to bypass taxes and residency limits. H-1B visas long distributed by lottery have been the lifeblood of Silicon Valley. But critics argue the program has been abused by outsourcing firms that flood the system with cheaper, entry-level hires from India and beyond. Trump’s plan, however, threatens to dismantle the program altogether by replacing pathways for professors, artists, scientists, and athletes with golden visas for the elite few.

Supriya Sule Calls for System Cleanup Amid ‘Vote Chori’ Row

Supriya Sule Urges Debate on Data, Calls for System Cleanup

New Delhi: Amid the Opposition's repeated claims of vote manipulation, Nationalist Congress Party (SP) MP Supriya Sule said that there is a need to "clean up the system" if there are any gaps.

"I see no reason we can't have a debate on data. Need to clean up the system if there are gaps," Ms Sule said at the NDTV Yuva event.

Ms Sule's comments come in the backdrop of Congress leader and Leader

Indians form the majority of H-1B visa holders, making up 71% last year, with China at 11.7%. Tech giants like Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta secured thousands of approvals in 2025. Trump’s new $100,000 H-1B fee will heavily burden Indians, who already face long Green Card waits, forcing repeated costly renewals worth over Rs. 88 lakh each time. The US is also reviving Trump’s tougher citizenship test—128 history and politics questions, with applicants needing 12 correct answers out of 20.

Trump on Friday insisted that the tech industry would not oppose the move, adding that the move is aimed at ensuring that the people being brought into the country are "actually very highly skilled" and do not replace American workers. "We need workers. We need great workers, and this pretty much ensures that that's what's going to happen," he said.

US Lawmakers Slam Trump’s H-1B Fee Hike

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi criticized Trump’s $100,000 H-1B visa fee as a “reckless attempt” to cut the US off from high-skilled workers who have long strengthened the workforce, fueled innovation, and built industries employing millions. He noted that many H-1B holders eventually become citizens and launch businesses that create well-paying jobs, arguing that while other nations compete for global talent, the US should modernize its immigration system instead of erecting barriers that harm the economy and national security.

of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi's allegations of "vote chori" (vote theft) and a promise that his party will soon release what he described as a "hydrogen bomb" of evidence.

"If there is data coming, let's have a debate on it," Ms Sule said, referring to Mr Gandhi's data on the alleged "vote chori".

"There are challenges and data speaks louder than words," she said.

"We are going to reveal a hydrogen bomb that is going to devastate completely the reality of the situation. We have open and shut proof on what we are saying. I am not saying anything without proof, we have 100 per cent of a number of things that have happened that are going to come out," Mr Gandhi declared.

The Ministry of External Affairs on Friday confirmed that India is in touch with the US authorities and with the family of a man from Telangana who was allegedly killed in California. While adressing the weekly briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that, "There has been an incident in California. We are in touch with the family. We also understand that an investigation is underway by local authorities."

Jaiswal added that US authorities had already released preliminary details of the case. "You would have also seen that the local police department, they have put out a video and a statement giving details of the circumstances," he said.

Anupam Kher Denies BJP Link

Anupam Kher opened up about his early struggles in cinema, his views on nationalism, and his outspoken nature at the ninth edition of Expresso held at The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai. In a free-flowing conversation, the veteran star spoke about being nearly replaced in his debut film, the misconceptions about his political stance, and why he has never shied away from expressing himself.

Anupam Kher, known for openly sharing his political opinions, discussed how audiences view his political persona during a conversation with Anant Goenka, Executive Director of the Indian Express Group. He said, “People confuse anybody who is talking about India that he wants to join politics. I was born in 1955 and India was born on 1947. I always say that I am 8 years younger to India. We both grew up together. I had postindependence blues in school and college. So, I was a born nationalist, now they say nationalist is different from being patriotic but I don’t understand that. I speak in favour of India without worrying about consequences and people confuse

that with me being in politics. This happened only after 2014 when we became very open about our likings and dislikes.”

Addressing the allegation that he is associated with the BJP, Kher responded, “It doesn’t bother me now. People say, ‘BJP ka aadmi hai’ but I have no shame in being a loyal Indian. I feel proud when somebody praises India and I have been like this since forever. I am passionate about my country because we have grown up together.”

He also spoke respectfully about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying, “I think he’s a great leader. We have disagreements even with our fathers and friends, but it doesn’t mean disrespecting that person. I go by the intention of the person. I feel protective towards him, he has so many enemy, yet he continues to work for the country.”

Kher, who made his debut in Mahesh Bhatt’s Saaransh, revealed that he was nearly replaced by Sanjeev Kumar on that very project. The actor recalled packing his bags and being ready to leave Mumbai, only to confront Bhatt. “I told Mahesh Bhatt, ‘Can you see that cab, it has my luggage. I’m leaving the city but before I leave it, I want to tell you, you are the biggest fraud on this earth. You are the biggest cheat on this earth. You are making a film about truth, and you don’t have the truth in you.’” After the confrontation, Bhatt convinced the producer to retain Kher.

highest taxpayer. Toh, it cannot be that I am money-minded or anything. Money is an important aspect in life, you have to be practical.”

He continued, “Paisa kamata hu, tax deta hu, aur un paiso se kaafi seva karta hoo. Ye mera dharam he. Baki chahe kuch bhi kahe main kuch vishwas nahi karta… agar ap ko pheete katne se paisa milta hai toh kya problem hain? Woh paisa dene ko taiyaar he? The Hera Pheri franchise has landed in the middle of a legal storm. Producer Firoz Nadiadwala has reportedly issued a legal notice to streaming giant Netflix, accusing it of the unauthorised use of Baburao Ganpatrao Apte, the much-loved character immortalised by Paresh Rawal.

Advocate Sana Raees Khan, who is representing Nadiadwala, released a sharp statement underscoring the gravity of the alleged infringement. She remarked, “Intellectual Property is not a matter of casual borrowing, it is the lifeblood of creativity. Unauthorised exploitation of my client’s iconic character is not just infringement, it is theft in its most blatant commercial form. The law will not permit dilution of rights that have been lawfully earned and zealously protected.”

Nora Fatehi

Harder Path to U.S. Citizenship

Zofeen Maqsood

Getting the American passport may now require more than you thought. It also now requires a more dedicated study of American history and civics.

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced a major revamp of the naturalization civics test. What used to feel like a short quiz on U.S. history and government is now closer to understanding more about American present and past politics with more questions, stricter scoring, and tougher content.

What’s Changing

The civics test is expanding from 100 to 128 possible questions. Applicants will now have to answer 20 questions, and instead of needing just 6 correct, they need to get at least 12 right to pass. The test digs deeper into more detailed understanding of American politics. For some older immigrants, there is still a lifeline: those over 65 who have lived in the U.S. for 20 years or more can take the test in their preferred language.

Why It Matters

The tougher rules disproportionately affect elderly applicants, low-income families who can’t afford tutoring, and those with limited English skills.

More Than Just a Test

The stricter exam is not the only change. It comes alongside tighter background checks, closer scrutiny of “moral character,” and requirements about proving one’s “attachment” to American values. For many would-be citizens, the process is beginning to feel less like an assessment of civic readiness and more like the toughest exam of their lives.

"American Mentality Must End"

He said he was paid unfairly and "wrongfully terminated" from his job, and the situation turned worse when he was forced to vacate his accommodation.

In the LinkedIn post, Nizamuddin said: "I have been a victim of racial hatred, racial discrimination, racial harassment, torture, wage-fraud, wrongful termination and obstruction of Justice. Today I decided to raise my voice against all odds. Enough is enough, white supremacy/racist white American mentality has to end. Oppression of corporate tyrants must end and everyone involved in it must be punished severely." He said that while he worked at Google via EPAM Systems, he faced a lot of hostility and racial discrimination. "In addition to that the company committed a salary fraud. I was not paid fairly, not in accordance to DOL (Department of Labour) wage-levels. They altogether wrongfully terminated my employment," he said.

Close Ties, Yet Sanctions

Trump’s India Comments

US President Donald Trump claimed he had imposed sanctions on India to help end the Russia-Ukraine war, even as he emphasized his close relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking at a joint press conference with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump said he recently wished Modi a happy birthday and praised the Indian leader for his “beautiful statement” in response. Answering questions on countries buying Russian oil, Trump said Russia would withdraw if oil prices fell. “As you know, I am very close to India… But I sanctioned them,” he said, highlighting mixed messaging. He also criticized European countries for purchasing Russian oil and referenced tariffs imposed on China. The remarks come amid renewed

India-US engagement, following bilateral trade talks earlier this week. Both sides described the discussions as positive and expressed intentions to accelerate progress on a trade deal. Later, Trump posted on social media thanking Modi for his efforts to help end the Ukraine conflict. Modi responded by reaffirming commitment to strengthening the India-US Comprehensive and Global Partnership and supporting initiatives for a peaceful resolution in Ukraine. The episode underscores Trump’s blend of diplomatic outreach and contradictory statements, praising Modi personally while simultaneously imposing sanctions, reflecting the complexity of US-India relations under his leadership

Trump Criticizes Networks Over Kimmel Coverage

Washington: US President Donald Trump suggested media networks that criticize him could face punishment after ABC indefinitely suspended Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show. The suspension followed backlash over Kimmel’s remarks linking the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk to Trump supporters. Speaking from Air Force One, Trump claimed “97%”

of US networks were against him and said their licenses “should be taken away,” though the FCC does not license networks like ABC, CBS, or NBC Trump praised ABC’s decision, calling Kimmel “not talented” with poor ratings. Kimmel had criticized Trump’s response to Kirk’s death and mocked political exploitation of the assassination. FCC Chair Brendan Carr supported ABC’s move, suggesting remedies against misinformation.

Critics, including David Letterman and former President Barack Obama, condemned the suspension as government coercion threatening free speech. They warned that such pressure on media companies undermines First Amendment protections and sets a dangerous precedent for censorship in the United States.

Adani Stocks Rise After SEBI Clears Hindenburg Case

New Delhi: Adani Group stocks rose 1–10% on Friday after SEBI dismissed allegations by US shortseller Hindenburg Research against Chairman Gautam Adani and group firms, including Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports, and Adani Power. Adani Total Gas led gains with a 10% jump, while Adani Power rose 7.4%, and Adani Enterprises 4.3%. SEBI found no violations, confirming all loans were repaid and funds used for intended purposes. Gautam Adani called the claims baseless, reaffirmed the group’s transparency, and expressed sympathy for investors affected by the motivated report.

UK Deports Indian Under New Migrant Rule

London: An Indian national became the first person deported from the UK to France under a new UK-France migrant treaty aimed at curbing illegal English Channel crossings. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood called it a “vital first step” against smuggler gangs. The scheme allows the UK to return ineligible small-boat migrants while accepting an equal number from France. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the deportation demonstrates the scheme’s effectiveness, with further removals expected in the coming weeks.

US Cops Shoot Dead Indian Techie After Roommate Stabbing Claim

Hyderabad: A 30-year-old Indian techie, Mohammed Nizamuddin from Mahabubnagar, Telangana, was shot dead by police in Santa Clara, California, after reportedly stabbing his roommate on September 3. Officials said police responded to a 911 call about the stabbing, found Nizamuddin inside his home with a knife, and engaged in an officerinvolved shooting. Nizamuddin was pronounced dead at a hospital, while his roommate is receiving treatment. Nizamuddin’s family, however, claimed he had called the police seeking help and alleged racial discrimination in

his killing. They demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. Nizamuddin had completed a Master’s in Computer Science in Florida and worked at a tech firm in Santa Clara. His family stated he had previously complained

publicly about racial harassment, wage fraud, wrongful termination, and intimidation, including a LinkedIn post alleging “racial hatred, torture, wage-fraud, and obstruction of justice.” The Santa Clara County District Attorney and Police Department are conducting a joint investigation. Meanwhile, Nizamuddin’s family has sought the Ministry of External Affairs’ assistance to repatriate his body from Santa Clara. Majlis Bachao Tehreek spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan said a letter has been sent to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar requesting detailed reporting from the Indian Embassy and Consulate to help with formalities.

“Project Firewall” Targets H-1B Visa Abuse

The U.S. Department of Labor has launched Project Firewall, an enforcement initiative to combat misuse of the H-1B visa program. For the first time, the Labor Secretary will certify investigations into suspected violations, including wage underpayment, U.S. worker displacement, and fraudulent job applications. Employers face penalties such as civil fines, back wage repayment, and temporary bans on filings. The program also enhances cooperation with other agencies, including the DOJ and USCIS. Employers are urged to ensure accurate applications and fair pay, while workers are encouraged to know their rights. The move signals stricter scrutiny of skilled immigration.

More Americans think companies benefit from legal immigration, a new AP-NORC poll finds

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL— As President Donald Trump’s administration imposes new restrictions on the U.S. immigration system, more Americans now say that legal immigrants benefit the country, according to a new poll.

The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research survey shows that compared with a year ago, Americans are increasingly likely to view legal immigrants as a “major benefit” to the economy and to U.S. companies seeking skilled workers. Fewer than half of Americans want to see the number of legal immigrants reduced, while a growing share supports keeping levels the same or even increasing them.

By contrast, views of illegal immigration remain largely unchanged, with many Americans continuing to see more risks than benefits.

New Restrictions on Legal Immigration

Trump has focused much of his presidency on arresting and deporting immigrants who are in the country illegally. But recent measures have also made it harder for people who want to enter legally to work or study.

On Friday, Trump signed a proclamation overhauling the H-1B visa program, requiring a $100,000 application fee. His administration is also adding “antiAmericanism” screenings for green card applicants and expanding social media vetting for students. Even among Republicans, support for reducing legal immigration has fallen. Roughly 3 in 10 Republicans now favor cuts, down from 45% in January.

Philip Steers, a Republican from St. Petersburg, Florida, said the U.S. makes the legal process too difficult. His nephew has struggled for months to secure a spouse visa for his Cambodian wife.

The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research survey shows that compared with a year ago, Americans are increasingly likely to view legal immigrants as a “major benefit” to the economy and to U.S. companies seeking skilled workers.

“If you are pushing all those people who are illegal out, why not make it easier for people who want to come here legally?” said Steers, 76.

Benefits of Legal Immigration

About 6 in 10 U.S. adults say a “major” benefit of legal immigration is economic growth, up from 4 in 10 in March 2024. More than half say immigrants bring expertise that strengthens U.S. companies, especially in science and technology fields. Nearly half also see

immigrants as enriching American culture and values. Carlos Gonzalez, a Democrat from Waterbury, Connecticut, said immigrants “provide a lot to the economy.” His Panamanian-born mother served as a military nurse in Vietnam. “A lot of people don’t realize that when they come here, they try to enrich the country and not take away from it,” Gonzalez said.

Views on Illegal Immigration Hold Steady

Opinions of illegal immigration remain steady, with Americans citing more risks than benefits. About 4 in 10 say undocumented immigrants take jobs Americans don’t want, while a similar share say they contribute to economic growth. But about half see them as a burden on welfare and safety-net programs.

Jeff Witoszczak of El Paso, Texas, a moderate Republican married to a Mexican immigrant who came legally, supports Trump’s deportation push. “Coming here illegally, that’s a crime in and of itself,” he said. “They didn’t follow due process coming in. They don’t need due process going out.”

Hochul Unveils New York’s COVID-19 Vaccine Guidance Ahead of Federal Vote

NEW YORK, NY — Right before new federal guidelines on the COVID vaccine were considered by a national committee last week, Gov. Kathy Hochul outlined New York’s own path forward. In recent days, Hochul announced the release of the state’s 2025–2026 COVID-19 vaccine guidance, stating that “science and health care are under attack by the federal government.” The guidance affirms that New Yorkers will continue to have access to vaccines and science-based information.

New York recommends vaccination for children ages 6 months to 18 years, all adults, and higher-risk groups, including those who are pregnant, lactating, or immunocompromised. The guidelines were issued just before the federal Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) meeting, where national recommendations were reviewed.

On Friday, the ACIP panel—convened by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.—recommended that COVID shots be administered only after consultation with a healthcare provider. Insurance coverage would remain intact, Reuters reported. A separate proposal to require

a prescription for vaccination failed to win a majority.

“Vaccines remain one of the strongest tools we have to safeguard our families and our communities,” Hochul said. “As Washington continues its misguided attacks on science, New York is making it

clear that every resident will have access to the COVID vaccine, no exceptions. By working with our partners across the Northeast, we are ensuring New Yorkers have the protection and information they need to stay safe and healthy.”

Hochul emphasized that New York’s

guidance is aligned with the Northeast Public Health Collaborative, which includes New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island, and New York City. The recommendations also reflect fall 2025 guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the American Academy of Family Physicians. To protect access, Hochul recently signed an executive order allowing pharmacists to prescribe and administer COVID vaccines. The order will remain in effect while lawmakers work toward a permanent solution addressing access to all vaccines. The state has also issued guidance to insurers, reminding them to cover COVID vaccines for children and encouraging continued coverage for adults. Insurers were urged to work with employers and others who provide selffunded health coverage to ensure vaccine costs remain covered.

New York State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald added: “Vaccines save lives, and this guidance ensures every New Yorker—from our youngest children to those at highest risk—has safe, reliable access to the COVID vaccine. We are standing firm on our commitment to protecting the health of every New Yorker.”

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A North Bergen police officer was arrested last Monday for allegedly spending significant time at home during his scheduled duty hours, according to prosecutors. Rasheed Siyam, 27, has been charged with third-degree theft by deception (false impression), the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office announced.

Investigators allege that between November 2024 and May 2025, Siyam repeatedly returned to his residence while on duty for extended periods of time. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City and later released pending his first court appearance, authorities said.

Federal Immigration Sweep in Chicago Area: More Than 400 Arrests Confirmed

PARK RIDGE, IL - Immigration enforcement officials have arrested more than 400 people in the Chicago area during an operation launched less than two weeks ago, according to Marcos Charles, acting head of ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations. Speaking with the Associated Press, Charles described the arrests as a “solid number,” noting that other federal agencies assisted in the campaign.

The Chicago-area operation, dubbed “Midway Blitz,” began Sept. 8. It follows similar actions in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., and reflects President Donald Trump’s aggressive immigration policies. Charles said the operation will continue indefinitely:

“We’re going to be conducting this operation until we feel that we’ve been successful.”

The sweep has drawn criticism from immigrant advocates and local officials, who say communities are experiencing heightened fear. Reports have surfaced of U.S. citizens mistakenly detained and of excessive force, including the Sept. 12 death of a man shot by an ICE officer after allegedly attempting to flee during a traffic stop.

Roughly half of those arrested were

“targeted arrests,” individuals with prior criminal convictions, final removal orders, or other factors that placed them on ICE’s radar. The rest were “collateral arrests”—

Miracle Jenkins Drops out, Endorses Bushra Amiwala for Congress in IL-9

CHICAGO, IL — Miracle Jenkins, candidate for Congress in Illinois’ 9th district, has suspended his campaign and endorsed Bushra Amiwala. Before running for Congress, Jenkins helped lead campaigns for Rep. Jan Schakowsky (DIL-09) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and has long advocated for policies that uplift working people in Illinois and across the nation. "As Bernie’s political director for Illinois, it’s my passion to fight for the working class and identify allies in that fight,” Jenkins said. “No one will fight for the working class as hard as Bushra Amiwala."

With Jenkins’ exit, eighteen candidates remain in the race. Amiwala, the first Gen Z elected official in the U.S. and a member of the Skokie District 73.5 School Board, is well positioned heading into the March 17, 2026, primary. Jenkins is the first candidate in the crowded field to suspend his campaign and consolidate support behind another contender. “Bushra has been part of our community and doing the work for over a decade. She believes in universal healthcare, fair wages, and creating opportunities for the next generation — from housing and public transit to good-paying jobs,” Jenkins said. Amiwala welcomed the endorsement:

“Jenkins ran a laudable campaign that challenged the status quo of economic inequality in our district. I am honored to have his support. We share the same goals: Medicare for All, debt-free education, and a Green New Deal that ensures a livable planet for future generations. Together, we will mobilize voters and bring our district’s values to Washington.”

people encountered during operations who lacked legal status but were not initially sought. Collateral arrests were largely restricted under the Biden administration but reinstated under Trump as part of efforts to accelerate deportations. Charles emphasized that some collateral arrests also involved individuals with criminal records.

The Department of Homeland Security launched Midway Blitz amid ongoing criticism of Illinois’ sanctuary policies, which limit cooperation between local authorities and ICE. Federal officials argue these measures force agents into communities to apprehend offenders who would otherwise be transferred directly from local custody. Opponents counter that such operations erode public safety by discouraging immigrant victims and witnesses from cooperating with police. Activists also warn of the dangers of large-scale sweeps and potential profiling.

The Trump administration has also pledged to send additional immigration agents and National Guard troops to Chicago, though a military deployment has not yet materialized. Meanwhile, arrests under Midway Blitz continue, intensifying a national debate over immigration enforcement and community trust in law enforcement.

Hindus Urge for Hindu Prayer Room at JFK International Airport

NEW YORK, NY- Hindus are calling for a designated Hindu Prayer Room, to be named “Hindu Mandir” (Temple), at John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport in New York—one of the world’s busiest airports. JFK currently houses Our Lady of the Skies Roman Catholic Chapel, Christ for the World Protestant Chapel, the International Synagogue, and JFK Masjid on the Departure Level of Terminal Four. The airport is operated by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ), which reports to the governors of both states.

Hindus would appreciate if the prayer room included murtis (statues) of deities, sacred scriptures, a traditional bell, devotional music, and daily kirtan and aarti sessions, Zed noted.

Prayer and worship hold central importance in Hinduism, the world’s third-largest religion with about 1.2 billion followers globally and 3.2 million in the USA. A prayer space at JFK would ensure Hindu travelers and employees can continue their daily spiritual practices—such as recitation of texts, mantra chanting, and meditation—without interruption.

In a statement released in Nevada, distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, President of the Universal Society of Hinduism, said that since many Hindu passengers and employees pass through or work at JFK daily, it would be appropriate and fair to provide them with a quiet facility for prayer, meditation, worship, and religious rituals.

Zed urged New York Governor Kathy Hochul, New Jersey Governor Philip D. Murphy, PANYNJ Board Chairman Kevin J. O'Toole, and Executive Director Rick Cotton to support the initiative as an issue of fairness and equality in customer service. He also offered the assistance of Hindu scholars in planning the structure of the proposed “Hindu Mandir.”

For reference, existing faith spaces at JFK offer extensive services:

• The Catholic Chapel (est. 1955) provides masses, sacraments, counseling, weddings, memorials, and retreats.

• The Protestant Chapel (est. 1964) serves as a spiritual hub for airport staff and passengers.

• The Synagogue (est. 1967) offers minyanim, prayer, meditation, and study.

• The Masjid provides daily and Jumu’ah prayers along with community and religious support services.

Commercial flights began at JFK in July 1948, and today it serves as a vital hub for international travel. Hindus now hope it will also serve as a spiritual hub by including a Hindu Mandir among its interfaith facilities.

Vedanta’s Relevance in Modern Life Explored at First-Ever North American Conference

HUNTSVILLE, AL- The first-ever North America Vedanta Conference (NAVC), held September 12–14 at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama, marked a milestone in the spiritual and intellectual life of the continent. Bringing together scholars, monks, devotees, and seekers, NAVC was envisioned as a pioneering platform to highlight the continuing relevance of Vedanta philosophy in the modern world. With its theme of bridging timeless wisdom and contemporary challenges, the event successfully established itself as a historic gathering of tradition and innovation. The conference showcased the four major schools of Vedanta—Advaita, Vishishtadvaita, Dvaita, and Samanvaya Vedanta—through a series of engaging discussions and presentations. Sixteen distinguished speakers, representing esteemed institutions such as the Ramakrishna Order and the Chinmaya Mission, illuminated these diverse traditions with clarity and depth. Sessions were not limited to intellectual

discourse; devotional practices like stotra recitations and meditation, led by Swami Ishatmananda, created a deeply spiritual atmosphere. Together, these elements offered participants a holistic experience that balanced philosophy, devotion, and practice.

Over three days, the program explored the lives and contributions of revered spiritual leaders— Madhvacharya, Ramanuja, Shankara, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, and others—tying their teachings to the philosophical foundations of Vedanta. Special attention was given to the role of women Advaitins such as Gargi and Vagdevi, offering perspectives often underrepresented in historical discussions. The final day emphasized Vedanta’s practical application in daily life, showing how its timeless insights can guide individuals toward peace, unity, and personal transformation in the modern era.

Beyond its academic and devotional offerings, NAVC stood as a celebration of community. Attendees

traveled from across North America and even from India, highlighting the shared commitment to advancing the mission of Vedanta. The conference also reflected the legacy of Swami Vivekananda, who first introduced Vedanta to America in 1893. Through the work of Vedanta Societies across the United States and Canada, these teachings continue to inspire spiritual seekers, foster cultural exchange, and influence the broader intellectual landscape of the West. Ultimately, the North America Vedanta Conference was not only a landmark event but also a powerful testament to Vedanta’s enduring vitality. It underscored the living nature of these philosophical traditions and their ability to inspire spiritual growth, intellectual exploration, and collective harmony. Participants left with renewed purpose and deeper insight, carrying forward the vision of Vedantic wisdom as a path to enlightenment, unity, and blissful divinity.

Experts Warn: Kissing Bug Bites May Trigger Fatal Heart Attacks

NEW YORK, NY - Chagas disease, commonly known as “kissing bug disease,” is now considered endemic in the United States, according to a new report in the CDC’s Emerging Infectious Diseases journal. The parasitic illness, transmitted by triatomine insects, can cause anything from severe itching to fatal heart complications, including stroke and heart failure.

The World Health Organization classifies Chagas as a neglected tropical disease, long overlooked despite its serious impact. The report’s findings may finally prompt the surveillance, prevention, testing, and research funding that experts have advocated for since the mid-20th century. Cases have been reported in nearly twothirds of U.S. states.

“We’ve all been waiting forever for people to recognize this disease is in our communities,” said Dr. Norman Beatty, a University of Florida infectious disease specialist and coauthor of the report. Research shows Chagas is a leading cause of heart disease in Latin America, surpassing malaria and Zika in disability impact. The American Heart Association calls it the parasitic disease with the highest burden in the Western Hemisphere.

About 20–30% of infected individuals develop serious complications, including digestive issues, nervous

system damage, and often fatal cardiac disease. The parasite, Trypanosoma cruzi, is transmitted through the feces of triatomine bugs—bloodsucking insects commonly called “kissing bugs” because they often bite the face while people sleep.

Citizen science projects reveal that 50% of kissing bugs tested in the U.S. carry the parasite. At least 11 species exist here, with populations detected in 32 states, mostly in the South but reaching as far north as Pennsylvania and New Jersey. An estimated 300,000 Americans are infected, yet only 2% are aware.

Preventive steps include sealing cracks in homes, using window screens, reducing outdoor lighting near houses, and keeping pets indoors at night. Insecticide-treated bed nets and professional pest control may also reduce risk.

Look-alike insects such as wheel bugs and western corsairs resemble kissing bugs but are not disease vectors, though their bites can be painful.

BECKLEY, W. VA. – U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) provided critical support in an investigation that resulted in guilty pleas from a Greenbrier County couple for immigration-related crimes.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that Rajesh N. Patel, 51, of Ronceverte, pleaded guilty to knowingly transporting an illegal alien, while his wife, Avanibahen Patel, 44, pleaded guilty to unlawful employment of aliens.

Court documents revealed that from November 2020 through at least September 2024, Aakash Prakash Makwana, 30, a citizen of India unlawfully residing in Ronceverte, worked at a Fairlea business owned by the Patels. Both defendants admitted hiring Makwana despite knowing his immigration visa had expired.

BRIDGEPORT, CT. – U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) provided critical assistance in the investigation that led to the sentencing of a South Windsor man for defrauding immigrant clients and USCIS.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that Babar Khan, 46, was sentenced to 18 months in prison and two years of supervised release for conspiracy and tax offenses stemming from a fraudulent immigration services scheme. According to court documents, Khan and his wife, Khatija Khan, operated JLLAS CORP. and EIMAAN LLC between 2015 and 2020. They recruited clients seeking immigration relief or benefits, many of whom lacked legal status, English proficiency, or knowledge of immigration procedures. Khatija Khan falsely claimed to be an attorney and prepared petitions with knowingly false information, often fabricating supporting documents without clients’ knowledge. The fraudulent submissions were sent to USCIS, becoming part of official immigration files.

Despite paying substantial fees, many victims received no immigration relief. To generate revenue, Khatija Khan filed applications even when they lacked merit. Victims lost more than $300,000. Additionally, in 2016, Babar Khan failed to report $27,901 in income, evading $7,942 in federal taxes. Both Khans were arrested in December 2019. Even after her arrest, Khatija Khan continued defrauding clients.

Congressman Krishnamoorthi, Senate and House Leaders Announce Bipartisan Bill for Documented Dreamers

“For many Documented Dreamers, the U.S. is the only home they’ve ever known. By forcing them to self-deport at 21, we rob our nation of their talents and deny them the American Dream. This bill begins to fix our broken immigration system by protecting these young people.” : Rep. Krishnamoorthi

WASHINGTON,DC — Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) joined Reps. Deborah Ross (D-NC), Mariannette MillerMeeks (R-IA), Maria Salazar (R-FL), Ami Bera (D-CA), and Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ) to introduce the bipartisan America’s CHILDREN Act, legislation to protect children of long-term visa holders—known as Documented Dreamers—from having to self-deport when they turn 21. Companion legislation has been introduced in the Senate by Senators Alex Padilla (D-CA) and Rand Paul (R-KY).

Currently, Documented Dreamers “age out” of dependent status at 21, forcing them to leave the United States, even if they have lived here nearly their entire lives. More than 250,000 children and young adults in the U.S. are dependents of long-term visa holders (including H-1B, L-1, E-1, and E-2 workers). These young people attend American schools, graduate from U.S. universities, and grow up as part of American communities— but are ineligible for DACA protections or work authorization.

Statements from Bill Sponsors:

• Rep. Krishnamoorthi: “For many Documented Dreamers, the U.S. is the only home they’ve ever known. By forcing them to self-deport at 21, we rob our nation of their talents and deny them the American Dream. This bill begins to fix our broken immigration system by protecting these young people.”

• Rep. Ross: “Documented Dreamers are members of our communities. Despite deep roots, many face deportation from the country they love. Our bipartisan bill ensures they can pursue their dreams and contribute to America’s future.”

• Sen. Padilla: “This bill rights a wrong caused by our outdated immigration system. It prevents hardworking young people from aging out and creates green card opportunities for Documented Dreamers.”

• Sen. Paul: “These children have legally called the U.S. home for years. They should

“By opening our doors to high school students, we hope to spark curiosity, leadership, and lifelong commitment to making a difference,” said Dominique Evans, special agent in charge of the FBI Norfolk field office. “The FBI Teen Academy is about more than learning what we do—it’s about inspiring tomorrow’s leaders.”

During the two-day event, teens will see how different agency roles, such as special agents, intelligence analysts, language specialists, and professional staff, work together to protect the community. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and get hands-on experience.

not be penalized by government backlogs. This legislation provides targeted relief to keep them here.”

• Rep. Bera: “These young people are part of the fabric of our country. It is our moral responsibility to provide them a clear path to permanent residency.”

• Rep. Salazar: “Far too many young people who grew up here legally are at risk of losing status through no fault of their own. This bill ensures their talents remain in America.”

• • Rep. Ciscomani: “The America’s CHILDREN Act provides stability, strengthens our workforce, and reaffirms fairness and opportunity.”

• Dip Patel, Founder of Improve The Dream, added: “Fixing this loophole ensures America benefits from the contributions of the children it raised and educated. We urge swift passage.”

Key Provisions of the America’s CHILDREN Act:

• Allow permanent residency for individuals brought to the U.S. as dependent children of employment-visa holders, who maintained status for 10 years (including eight as dependents) and graduated from a U.S. institution of higher education.

• Protect children who have lived in the U.S. for eight years before age 21 as dependents of employment-based nonimmigrants by allowing them to remain dependents until they secure another status.

• Establish “age-out” protections that lock in a child’s age when parents file for a green card.

• Provide work authorization for individuals covered by age-out protections.

The bill is endorsed by Improve the Dream, Americans For Prosperity, Niskanen Center, The Libre Initiative, National Immigration Forum, and the Council on National Security and Immigration.

Federal Court Orders ICE to Take Immediate Action on NYC Facility Conditions

NEW YORK, NY — A federal judge has ordered Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to improve conditions at its holding facility inside 26 Federal Plaza in Lower Manhattan.

The ruling, issued by U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan, came in response to a lawsuit filed on behalf of detainees who alleged they were subjected to overcrowding, unsanitary conditions, and deprivation of basic necessities such as food, water, and medical care.

Judge Kaplan’s decision imposes strict requirements on ICE to enhance the treatment of individuals held at the site.

The injunction specifically mandates that ICE maintain a minimum of 50 square feet per person when housing detainees, and it requires the agency to provide essential items like hygiene products, sleeping mats, and access to medical care. Equally significant is the requirement that detainees be allowed to make confidential phone calls to their attorneys, ensuring their legal rights are not compromised. These steps, the court emphasized, are necessary to uphold basic standards of humanity and decency, regardless of the detainees’ immigration status.

In his ruling, Judge Kaplan underscored the broader principle at stake, writing that while the government may pursue its immigration enforcement policies, it

must still adhere to humane treatment standards. “This is the United States of America,” Kaplan noted, emphasizing

that even noncitizens awaiting deportation deserve dignity and humane conditions while in custody. His words highlighted the tension between immigration enforcement and the nation’s legal and moral obligations to those in its custody.

Advocacy groups, such as the New York Immigration Coalition, welcomed the injunction, pointing to widespread reports that detainees had gone without showers, clean clothing, medication, or adequate meals, often forced to sleep on the floor. These accounts, they argued, revealed systemic neglect within the facility, contradicting the government’s public claims. The decision, they said, is a critical step toward protecting vulnerable individuals who have little recourse while in ICE custody.

In contrast, the Department of Homeland Security has pushed back against the court’s findings, insisting that 26 Federal Plaza is not a detention center but a short-term processing site. In a statement, the agency denied allegations of overcrowding or neglect, asserting that all individuals in ICE custody are provided meals, medical care, and access to communication. This denial sets up a sharp conflict between federal authorities and advocates, raising questions about transparency and accountability in the treatment of immigrants under U.S. custody.

ICE Deploys Tear Gas Against Bushra Amiwala and Peaceful Protesters

BROADVIEW, IL —U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents deployed pepper spray, tear gas and pellet bullets against peaceful protesters outside a Broadview, Illinois, detention center on Friday morning.

Demonstrators were seen bloodied, shoved to the ground by agents while the authorities ignited a tear gas grenade in the crowd. Bushra Amiwala, the first Gen Z elected official in the country and candidate for Congress in Illinois’ 9th district, was directly in front of the grenade when it ignited.

Amiwala released the following statement:

California Legislature Passes Bill to Recognize Diwali as State Holiday

SACRAMENTO, CA – California lawmakers have approved AB 268, officially designating Diwali as a state holiday. The bill, authored by Assembly Members Ash Kalra and Dr. Darshana Patel, with Senator Ben Allen as principal coauthor, now advances to the engrossing and enrolling stage.

Under the legislation, state employees will be able to take paid leave on Diwali. Public schools and community colleges may also close for the holiday through agreements with employee unions. Courts, however, will remain open, as the measure does not classify Diwali as a judicial holiday.

The Hindu American Foundation, a key advocate of the bill, praised the milestone: “AB 268 (Diwali) has PASSED and is headed to engrossing & enrolling! Big shoutout to @AsmDarshana and @Ash_ Kalra for leading this effort and bringing Diwali recognition one step closer.”

The legislation highlights Diwali’s cultural and spiritual significance:

• Hindus light lamps to symbolize knowledge and truth triumphing over darkness.

• Sikhs commemorate Bandi Chhor Divas, marking Guru Hargobind’s release from imprisonment.

• Jains honor the liberation of Lord Mahavira in 527 B.C.

• Newar Buddhists recognize Emperor Ashoka’s conversion to Buddhism.

Celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Jains across the United States, Diwali is now formally recognized as a holiday in California—a landmark step for the state’s vibrant South Asian community.

ICE to Deport Cuban in Indian American Murder Case

DALLAS , TXU.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has initiated deportation proceedings against Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, a 37-year-old undocumented immigrant from Cuba, accused of the brutal beheading and murder of 41-yearold Nagamallaiah Chandra in Dallas, Texas. The killing has sparked outrage across the political spectrum, including condemnation from former President Donald Trump.

Chandra was attacked on September 10 at a local motel following an argument over the use of a broken washing machine. According to police reports and media coverage, Martinez allegedly used a machete to decapitate Chandra in front of his wife and child, then desecrated the victim’s remains before disposing of the head in a dumpster. He was arrested by the Dallas Police Department and charged with capital murder. ICE has since lodged a detainer for his federal arrest and removal.

In response, Trump posted on social media that the suspect would be prosecuted to “the fullest extent of the law” and “charged with murder in the first degree.” He criticized the Biden administration for allowing Martinez to remain in the U.S., alleging the accused had a prior criminal history involving child sex abuse, grand theft auto, and false imprisonment.

“This evil individual should have never been released into our country,” Trump wrote, pledging stricter enforcement against undocumented immigrants with violent criminal records.
