US and Ukraine sign longawaited natural resources deal

Washington, D.C. – In a major breakthrough after months of intense negotiations, the United States and Ukraine have signed a historic agreement to jointly develop Ukraine’s energy and critical mineral resources. The deal, which also establishes a new US-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund, is seen as a key step in Ukraine’s economic recovery following Russia’s 2022 invasion. The agreement was signed in Washington by Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions and an ongoing trade war between the US and China—currently the dominant global supplier of rareearth elements.

Ukraine, which holds vast reserves of key minerals such as lithium, titanium, and graphite, has long been considered a strategic partner due to its natural wealth. These resources are vital to sectors like renewable energy, military manufacturing, and advanced industry.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent

said the deal demonstrates a strong commitment to Ukraine’s long-term prosperity. "This partnership will unlock Ukraine’s growth assets," he said in a video statement. The fund will operate on a 50:50 basis and aims to attract international investors to projects spanning oil, gas, and critical minerals—resources that will remain under Ukraine’s ownership.

For Kyiv, the deal was crucial for securing future US military support. While former President Donald Trump had initially demanded repayment for past military aid, the final agreement offers a more balanced exchange: Ukraine grants the US access to its mineral sector in return for continued security backing. The deal language reflects unusually

US Investors Quietly Visit Greenland Amid Trump's Purchase Talk

The timing of the private sector delegation's visit comes on the heels of that of the Danish king, who is visiting the arctic island to show unity between Denmark and its former colony. The King of Denmark is still the Head of State of Greenland.

Washington DC:

Donald Trump wants to annex Greenland one way or another. After trying to build diplomatic pressure over the last few months and failing at it, Washington is trying a new approach - a private sector delegation heading to Greenland this week. Its aim - to invest money, lots of it.

The timing of the private sector delegation's visit comes on the heels of that of the Danish king, who is visiting the arctic island to show unity between Denmark and its former colony. The King of Denmark is still the Head of State of Greenland.

Both Greenland and Denmark have rejected Donald Trump's plans to "buy" the arctic nation. The US President, however, has refused to rule out taking Greenland by military force if Denmark won't sell it.

The US private sector now wants to explore investment opportunities in Greenland's vast natural resources, rich in rare earth minerals. To their luck, the leadership in the arctic nation has recently changed hands, with Jens-Frederik Nielsen being elected as the new prime minister. While Mr Nielsen has objected to any attempts being made by the United States to take over Greenland, he is also known to be a leader with pro-business views and aims to monetize the island-nation's resources.

Ukraine, which holds vast reserves of key minerals such as lithium, titanium, and graphite, has long been considered a strategic partner due to its natural wealth. These resources are vital to sectors like renewable energy, military manufacturing, and advanced industry.

strong support from the Trump administration, referring to Russia’s actions as a “full-scale invasion” and barring any Russian-aligned entities from profiting in Ukraine’s reconstruction.

Delays had occurred due to Ukrainian concerns over fund governance and transparency. However, a recent Trump-Zelensky meeting during Pope Francis' funeral in Vatican City appears to have helped push the deal forward.

Trump later said the agreement would help the US recuperate past aid and secure access to valuable resources. “Ukraine has what many others don’t— rare earths,” he told NewsNation. The agreement still awaits ratification by Ukraine’s parliament.

Trump urges patience from business leaders as US economy contracts

President Donald Trump has asked for more time on the US economy as it contracted for the first time in three years, stoking recession fears.

He said the figure was misleading because companies had stockpiled imports ahead of his imposition of tariffs.Trump, however, said $8tn (£6tn) of inward investment had been promised, which he argued would restore American manufacturing prowess.

Tesla Board Sought New CEO Amid Musk's Political Focus

With Tesla’s stock sinking and some investors irritated at Elon Musk’s focus on White House since Donald Trump became the US president, board members of Tesla reached out to several executive search firms about a month ago to look for CEO Musk’s successor, Wall Street Journal has reported. The WSJ report added that the current status of the board’s push, which was ignited due to Elon Musk’s heavy involvement in White House affairs, could not be determined.

Egypt's $51M Pyramids Revamp Features Electric Buses, E-Ticketing

Yiwu, China – Inside the sprawling Yiwu International Trade Market, where over 75,000 shops showcase everything from plush toys to massage guns, a quiet but determined shift is underway. Amid soaring US tariffs—now reaching up to 245% on some Chinese goods— local vendors like Hu Tianqiang are unfazed. "We don't care about sales to the United States," he says as toy fighter jets buzz past.

Yiwu, a manufacturing hub in Zhejiang province, accounted for 17% of China’s exports to the US in 2024. But the trade war reignited under Donald Trump’s presidency has pushed many vendors to diversify. "Other countries have money too!" says Hu, who now sells mainly to South America and the Middle East.

China exported $34 billion in toys last year, with $10 billion going to the US. However, escalating tariffs and uncertainty have prompted exporters to pivot. Lin Xiupeng, another toy vendor, notes American buyers are increasingly absent. “A US order worth over a million yuan was canceled due to tariffs,” he shares.

American businesses are feeling the impact.

Xi Is Trying To Turn World Against US As Trump Cuts Deals

Xi has resisted getting on the phone with Trump and his government is demanding a removal of "reciprocal" tariffs.

Chinese diplomats are intensifying efforts to rally global opposition to the US amid escalating trade tensions with President Donald Trump. As Trump grants countries a 90-day window to negotiate trade deals, excluding China, Beijing is working to turn foreign governments against the US, positioning itself as a defender of the international trade system. Chinese officials, including Foreign Minister Wang Yi and central bank Governor Pan Gongsheng, have criticized US actions, urging countries to resist Trump's tariff demands and refrain from supporting Washington’s stance.

Beijing’s strategy involves emphasizing the benefits of China's resistance to US tariffs, which have pressured countries to seek trade deals with the US. While countries like the EU oppose Trump’s tariffs, concerns over China's military actions and its relationship with Russia remain obstacles. Additionally, China is using its economic influence to prevent nations from aligning with Washington, warning them against deals that could harm its interests. For instance, China has engaged in outreach efforts in regions like Latin America and South Korea, seeking to counter US influence.

Meanwhile, Beijing’s diplomatic efforts extend to regional rivals. China has softened its tone on contentious issues with India, and diplomatic overtures have been made to Japan, signaling a shift toward cooperation in the face of US trade policies. However, experts argue that while these efforts may disrupt coordinated US actions, they are unlikely to sway key allies away from Washington.

owner, warns the tariffs could devastate the entire industry. “We’re looking at the total implosion of the supply chain,” he told the BBC.

Trump’s rhetoric—accusing China of monopolizing trade and eyeing rare earth minerals—has only hardened Beijing’s stance. State media frames the US as the aggressor, while vendors in Yiwu adjust to new markets. Traders are learning Arabic and Spanish to better serve growing clients from Latin America and the Middle East.

Some US retailers, including Walmart and Target, have warned of empty shelves and higher prices by Christmas. Still, many Chinese exporters insist the world beyond America is full of opportunity. As one Iranian-Chinese trader puts it, "These women learning languages are the backbone of China’s new global trade.” Oscar, a buyer from Colombia, agrees: “Doing business with China is very important. With the US these days, less so.” Despite economic headwinds, China’s exporters remain resilient—redefining global trade, one fluffy bunny at a time.Laritiore eritili amprimis es M. US Girl Rescued After Years of Abuse in Basement

A young girl from the US has accused a 64-year-old Wisconsin man of sexual abuse, including being chained in a basement for several years, starved and mutilated. She told the authorities that she was given only a piece of bread to eat and forced to drink water from a puddle on the ground, PEOPLE reported.

According to the court documents obtained by the outlet, David Boyd is accused of abusing two young girls when they were less than 10 years of age. The abuse allegedly began in 2020 in Brown Deer and continued until 2024 before one of the victims opened up to her foster parents about the abuse. They claimed that Boyd was their greatgodmother's boyfriend. One of the victims alleged that he took her to his home in Milwaukee, where he chained her to a pole in the basement. In a sketch, she detailed her confinement. The young girl created an image of a pole next to a washer and dryer. She then made a stick figure, which she labelled as "me," showing a chain around the neck. At the foot of the stick figure, she showed a piece of bread and below that she drew waves, which she described as water that she had to drink from a puddle.

China Assures India: No Goods Dumping Amid US Trade War

China has assured that it will not flood foreign markets with cheap goods amid its ongoing trade and tariff conflict with the United States. In an article published in The Indian Express on Tuesday, Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, sought to dispel concerns about a potential surge of low-cost Chinese products in global markets due to the tariff war.

Since the start of the trade conflict under US President Donald Trump, both the US and China have imposed tariffs exceeding 100% on each other’s goods, raising fears of global market disruptions. Many countries, including India, worry that Chinese exporters may redirect goods to alternative markets, affecting local industries.

India, the world’s second-largest crude steel producer, recently introduced a 12% safeguard duty on select steel imports to curb a spike in cheap shipments, primarily from China. In response to these concerns, Ambassador Xu stated that China remains committed to expanding

Trade war between the world’s two biggest economies has stoked fears that Chinese firms may divert goods to other markets, hitting competitiveness of exports from other countries

domestic demand and increasing consumption. “China strictly complies with WTO subsidy rules and market principles,” Xu wrote. “We will not engage in dumping, cutthroat

competition, or disrupt other economies.”

This assurance comes at a time when some Indian steel mills are struggling due to increased imports, leading

Canada to Handle Trump 'On Our Terms': Carney

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has stated that Canada will only engage in trade and security talks with U.S. President Donald Trump “on our terms,” emphasizing the need for mutual respect and sovereignty. Speaking to the BBC, Carney said he would only visit Washington when a serious, respectful dialogue was possible. Following his historic election win, Carney’s office confirmed he and Trump have agreed to meet soon. The leaders acknowledged the importance of cooperation between two sovereign nations. However, Trump has repeatedly floated the idea of making Canada the “51st state,” a notion Carney firmly rejected as unrealistic and disrespectful. Carney also warned against the impact of Trump's trade policies, particularly the blanket 25% tariffs on Canadian aluminium and steel. Canada responded with C$60 billion in retaliatory tariffs. The PM criticized these moves for straining longstanding economic ties between the

two nations, whose economies are deeply intertwined. Canada exports roughly 75% of its goods to the U.S., while supplying vital energy and fertilizer to American industries.

Highlighting his experience managing global financial crises, Carney stressed that Canada seeks a fair economic and security partnership, not submission. He also emphasized the need to diversify trade, pointing to potential deals with the UK and EU.

Carney dismissed the “51st state” rhetoric as political posturing and said Canada would continue to seek balanced agreements that support domestic industries while preserving sovereignty.

The upcoming G7 summit in Canada, set just before a 90-day pause on some Trump-era tariffs ends, will be a critical moment in global trade talks. Carney said the summit would test whether the G7 remains a cohesive force amid growing economic nationalism and protectionism.

“China strictly complies with WTO subsidy disciplines and market rules,” Xu wrote. “We will not engage in market dumping or cutthroat competition, nor will we disrupt other countries’ industries and economic development."

to fears of job losses and reduced production. Separately, India and the US are working on an interim trade deal focusing on goods. According to India’s commerce ministry, talks are progressing, with further engagements planned from late May. Indian negotiator Rajesh Agrawal and US trade representative Brendan Lynch held discussions last week in Washington. The interim deal aims for “early mutual wins” as both countries move toward a broader bilateral trade agreement, potentially by fall. Key concerns include non-tariff barriers, especially in sectors like marine products.

Trump eases car tariffs after firms raised concerns

US President Donald Trump has taken action to ease the impact of new tariffs on the car making industry, which had sparked warnings about higher prices and the potential for significant hits to sales and production.

The change will allow companies with US factories to reduce the amount they pay in import taxes on foreign parts, using a formula tied to how many cars they sell and the price.

The provision is intended to provide relief to businesses for two years as they rework their supply chains, the White House said.

Officials also moved to shield car firms from facing mounting tariffs on the same items.

They said businesses that have to pay tariffs on cars and parts would not be charged other duties the administration has imposed on steel, aluminium and goods from Canada and Mexico.

The changes came as Trump visited Michigan on Tuesday for a rally to mark his first 100 days in office.

The state is home to the so-called Detroit Three carmakers - Ford, General Motors (GM) and Stellantis - and a network of more than 1,000 major suppliers to the industry.

Those firms and the wider industry have been plunged into uncertainty since Trump announced new 25% tariffs on cars and car parts in March, saying he wanted to expand domestic car manufacturing - an industry the White House sees as key to national security.

Ex-Pak Commando Hashim Moosa, Pahalgam Killer, On the Run

is

perpetrators of the Pahalgam terror attack, security agencies say

Sources in the security establishment have said Hashim Moosa is hiding somewhere in the forests of south Kashmir and an all-out operation has been launched to track him down

New Delhi: Security agencies have identified three terrorists involved in plotting the Pahalgam terror attack in which 25 tourists and a Kashmiri pony ride operator were shot dead in cold blood. Two of them -- Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafeez Saeed and his deputy Saifullah Kasuri -- are in Pakistan, and the third, Hashim Moosa, is believed to be hiding in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to sources, the objective is to arrest Hashim Moosa alive, as that would establish Pakistan's role in the heinous terror attack. Hashim Moosa, it is learnt, has served as a para-commando in Pakistan's Special Service Group. He later joined Lashkar-e-Taiba and has been part of multiple terror attacks since. He is learnt to have entered India in 2023.

Caste Data to Be Included in Next Census: Centre

New Delhi:

Questions on caste - i.e., an enumeration of the various castes and sub-castes, and the number of people in each, across the country - will be part of the next census, which is expected to be held next year, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said during a cabinet briefing Wednesday afternoon.

The government's big decision - a demand raised frequently and vociferously by the opposition over the past few years - comes months before a critical Assembly election in Bihar. That is significant because in October 2023 it was Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's government - when he was still

allied with the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Congress - that pushed through a caste survey.

Bihar became the first state to release such data. The survey indicated that 36 per cent of the state's population was from Extremely Backward Classes, 27.1 per cent from Backward Classes, 19.7 per cent from Scheduled Castes and 1.7 per cent are from Scheduled Tribes. The fallout of the report - apart from leading the opposition parties to intensify demands for a nationwide caste survey, a topic that was also a major flashpoint in campaigning for last year's Lok Sabha election - included the Bihar government ordering special quotas, up to 65 per cent.

PM Modi Cancels Russia Visit Amid Pakistan Tensions

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has canceled his scheduled visit to Russia and will not attend the Victory Day Parade in Moscow on May 9, according

to Russian Presidential Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.

While no official reason has been provided by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for the cancellation, the decision is believed to be linked to the current security situation following a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The visit was expected to include PM Modi’s participation in the 80th anniversary celebrations of Russia’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.

Trump Says India Trade Talks "Going Well"

Washington: US President Donald Trump said that trade talks with India were “coming along great” and expressed confidence in signing a deal. Unlike his aides, however, the president did not put an immediacy to the talks. “India's coming along great,” he told reporters at an airport, heading to a rally in Michigan state to mark his achievements in the first 100 days of his second term. “I think we'll have a deal with India... they want to make a deal.”

Indian-Origin Tech CEO Allegedly Kills Wife and Son, Commits Suicide in Washington

Harshavardhana Kikkeri, a 57-yearold tech entrepreneur of Indian origin, allegedly shot and killed his wife, Shwetha Panyam (44), and their 14-year-old son, Dhruva, before taking his own life in their Newcastle townhouse last week, authorities confirmed.

The King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) responded to a report of a shooting in the quiet suburban neighborhood. Deputies discovered three deceased individuals at the scene.

The King County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the deaths of Panyam and her son as homicides caused by gunshot wounds. Dhruva was found with injuries to the head, while Panyam had additional wounds to her torso. Kikkeri’s death was confirmed as a suicide.

The couple's younger son, aged 7, survived the incident and is now in protective care. Neighbors described the family as reserved and largely

While the motive behind the tragic incident remains unknown, law enforcement officials said the investigation is ongoing.

“An investigation such as this takes time, and our detectives are working diligently to try and piece together what led to this incident,” a KCSO spokesperson said. Originally from Mandya in Karnataka, India, Kikkeri studied in Mysuru before moving to the U.S. He earned a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University and built a career in

robotics and tech innovation, including roles at Microsoft. He received several honors throughout his career, including the Microsoft Gold Star Award, the Infosys Excellence Award, the Bharat Petroleum Scholarship, and accolades in chess tournaments.

In 2017, Kikkeri and Panyam cofounded HoloWorld after relocating to India. The venture, which focused on immersive tech experiences, ended operations in 2022. That same year, the family moved back to the United States and launched HoloSuit, a fullbody motion capture suit powered by AI. The product gained attention for its ability to function as a virtual trainer, demonstrating advanced applications in motion tracking and human-computer interaction.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through both the local community and the global tech diaspora. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Jagmeet Singh's Election Loss a Win for India

Nearly 50 tourist spots in Kashmir shut amid security concerns

The Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to shut down around 50 tourist destinations and trekking trails in the Valley citing security reasons after last week’s terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam.

New Delhi: Jagmeet Singh, the leader of Canada's New Democratic Party and a known pro-Khalistan figure, has lost the 2025 Canadian federal election. His defeat has been seen as a welcome chance for India and Canada to reset diplomatic and trade relations left frozen by allegations - from Mr Singh and former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau - that "agents" of the former were involved in the killing of Hardeep Nijjar.

Carney Wins Historic Election, Defies Trump

Mark Carney's Liberal Party wins the Canadian election, in a remarkable turnaround for the centre-left partywatch how the night unfolded in under two minutes. In his victory speech, Carney tells supporters: "President Trump is trying to break us so that America can own us - that will never ever happen". It remains too close to call whether he will secure a majority in parliament - if not, he'll have to rely on other parties to govern. Defeated Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre loses his seat - in his concession speech earlier, he pledged to work with Carney to confront Trump.

The destinations that have been shut down for not having “adequate” security presence included famous resorts like the Gurez valley, Dodapathri, Verinag, the Bangus valley and Yusmarg.

Officials said the government decided to close these destinations for the “safety of the tourists” after last Tuesday’s attack in Pahalgam left 25

Trump's Trucking Order Raises Sikh Group Concerns

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order mandating that truck drivers in America are proficient in English, a requirement that has raised concerns among Sikh advocacy groups who say it can have a “discriminatory impact” on truckers from the community and create unnecessary barriers to employment.

“Proficiency in English,” which Trump has designated as America’s official national language, “should be a nonnegotiable safety requirement for professional drivers. They should be able to read and understand traffic signs, communicate with traffic safety, border patrol, agricultural checkpoints, and cargo weight-limit station officers,” the order issued Monday says. “Drivers need to provide feedback to their employers and customers and receive related directions in English. This is common sense,” the order said.

proximity to Srinagar city — just 45 km away — has also been shut. The Bangus valley in north Kashmir’s Kupwara and Verinag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag have also been closed for tourists. The Kaman post in Uri, on the LoC, that had been opened for tourists some time ago, has also now been closed. It had been a favourite spot among picnickers both from within and outside Kashmir. The government has also decided to close Kousarnag, a high-altitude lake in south Kashmir’s Shopian, for tourists. Kousarnag is also a trekking trail famous with the adventure tourists and trekkers.

India Among First US Trade Deals: Treasury Secretary

Washington: US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Monday said many top US trading partners had made 'very good' proposals to avert US tariffs, and one of the first deals to be signed would likely be with India. "I would guess that India would be one of the first trade deals we would sign," Bessent told CNBC, adding that the US had also held very substantial negotiations with Japan and discussions with other Asian trading partners were going well. "Vice President Vance was in India last week, talked about substantial progress. I have mentioned that the negotiations with the Republic of Korea have gone very well, and I think we've had some very substantial negotiations with our Japanese allies.

Indian man Stuck in Jail on Kidnapping charges, Even Though Evidence suggests he may not be Guilty

It has been a harrowing one month for 56-year-old Mahendra Patel, and his family now. Since March Patel has been languishing in a Georgia jail. His crime? The man has been accused of an attempted kidnapping crime that according to the surveillance footage did not happen!

This gross injustice if proven can really leave long trauma on the man and his family. The incident that led to this arrest started with a trip to the local Walmart. According to reports, Caroline Miller, a 26-year-old woman who was also at Walmart on that

fateful day has accused Patel of trying to abduct her two-year-old son. As per Millers’ version on March 18, she was shopping using a motorized cart with her two children, Patel first distracted her by asking for Tylenol and then tried to lift her son out of her lap, leading to what

she described as a "tug of war" before she stopped him. However, when newspaper Daily Mail reviewed the footage it showed a different story. As per reports, video from 20 different angles reportedly showed no such struggle between Patel and Miller.

Instead, what it shows seems to be Patel and Miller interacting briefly. Patel said he asked Miller for help locating Tylenol. The videos showed no evidence of Patel grabbing or attempting to snatch the child. Three days later the police arrested Patel on charges like kidnapping, simple battery, and simple assault. He is currently being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Centre.

Patel’s claims are totally different. He says that he only reached out to steady the boy, fearing he was about to fall, as he mistook Miller for being disabled.

Carney vs Poilievre: Canada Votes Today

NEWS IN BRIEF India Bans 16 Pak YouTube Channels, Warns BBC

Ottawa: Canada Election 2025: Canadians are set to elect a new government on Monday, as the Liberals led by Mark Carney try to extend their hold on power against Pierre Poilievre's Conservatives.

Candidates made their final push for votes on Sunday, but the final hours of campaigning were rattled by a deadly car-ramming attack in Vancouver.

The deadly attack briefly shifted the nation's focus away from US President Donald Trump, whose trade war and threats to annexe Canada have outraged Canadians.

FBI's Kash Patel Slams Pahalgam Attack

FBI Chief Kash Patel described the deadly assault as a "reminder of the constant threats our world faces from the evils of terrorism."

Washington:

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel on Sunday condemned the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir and assured continued support to the Indian government in its fight against terrorism.

Mr Patel described the deadly assault as a "reminder of the constant threats our world faces from the evils of terrorism." The brutal attack, which took place on April 22 and claimed 26 lives, was carried out by The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). It has sparked widespread diplomatic and public outrage both within India and internationally.

Taking to X, Mr Patel wrote, "The FBI sends our condolences to all the victims of the recent terrorist attack in Kashmir -- and will continue offering our full support to the Indian government." "This is a reminder of the constant threats our world faces from the evils of terrorism. Pray for those affected. Thank you to the men and women of law enforcement who answer the call in moments like these," he further added.

India has banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels, with a combined 63 million subscribers, for spreading provocative, false, and communally sensitive content after the Pahalgam terror attack, government sources said. The channels were blocked following recommendations from the Union Home Ministry.

Among the banned platforms are prominent news outlets like Dawn, Samaa TV, ARY News, Bol News, Geo

News, and Suno News, along with channels run by journalists Irshad Bhatti, Asma Shirazi, Umar Cheema, and Muneeb Farooq. Sports and commentary channels such as Samaa Sports, Uzair Cricket, The Pakistan Reference, Raftar, and Razi Naama were also taken down.

These channels allegedly circulated misinformation targeting India, its Army, and security agencies amid strained Indo-Pak ties after the Pahalgam tragedy, where terrorists killed 25 tourists and a local Kashmiri.

In a no-holds-barred attack on Pakistan, Mr Owaisi said voices in Islamabad keep making nuclear threats against India. "Remember, if you enter a country and kill innocents, no country will stay silent, no matter who is in power. The way you attacked our country, the way people were asked their religion and shot, what religion are you talking about? You are worse than Khawarij You are ISIS sympathisers," he said at a meeting in Maharashtra's Parbhani to oppose the Waqf Amendment Act.

The government has also warned the BBC over a headline that read, "Pakistan suspends visas for Indians after deadly Kashmir attack on tourists."

Users trying to access the banned channels now see a message citing restrictions due to national security or public order, as per Google's Transparency Report.

Following the attack, India has intensified its stance against Pakistan, suspending the Indus Water Treaty and visa services for Pakistani nationals. In response, Pakistan has warned it could suspend bilateral agreements, including the Simla Agreement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack, vowing a fierce response against the perpetrators. "This attack was not just on tourists; it struck at India's soul," he said, promising swift justice.

Meanwhile, the Indian government has also issued a warning to BBC over a misleading headline suggesting India was responsible for the tourist deaths. The External Publicity Department has conveyed strong objections to BBC’s India Head and will monitor their reporting closely.

Global Protests Against Pahalgam Attack

Indian community members across Canada, Denmark, England, France, Finland, Germany, Spain, and the US held massive protests on Sunday against the Pahalgam terror attack, demanding justice for the 26 victims killed last Tuesday. Protesters waved Indian flags, chanted anti-Pakistan slogans, and displayed placards supporting India, with messages like "India, we stand with you." The demonstrations come amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan after the involvement of a terror group linked to Pakistanbased Lashkar-e-Taiba in one of the deadliest civilian attacks in the region. A protester in Paris emphasized that the gatherings were not about religion or politics but about sending a clear message to Pakistan, citing past attacks like Pulwama and Mumbai 26/11.

Pak Minister Seeks Global Probe on Kashmir Attack

Pakistan believes an international investigation is needed into the killing of 26 men at a tourist spot in Indian Kashmir this week and is willing to work with international investigators, the New York Times reported on Friday, quoting Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif. Asif told the newspaper in an interview that Pakistan was “ready to cooperate” with “any investigation which is conducted by international inspectors.” India has said there were Pakistani elements to the attack on Tuesday, but Islamabad has denied any involvement. The two countries both claim the mountainous region but each controls only part of it.

As US Reinstates Revoked Student Visas, Its Impact On Indians, Others

In a major reversal, the Trump administration announced it will restore the student visa registrations of thousands of foreign students whose records were previously terminated due to minor infractions. This move follows intense legal pressure, with over 100 lawsuits filed and more than 50 judges issuing restraining orders to block the terminations.

The terminations, carried out through SEVIS — the federal database used to track foreign students — had triggered panic, as many feared deportation or being forced to abandon their studies, sometimes just weeks before graduation. Judges criticized the government’s actions as arbitrary and unclear, adding to the students' uncertainty.

The Justice Department revealed the decision in federal court, stating that Immigration and Customs

The Trump administration will restore student visa registrations for thousands of foreign students previously terminated due to minor infractions. This decision follows legal pressure and reassures students facing potential deportation or disrupted studies.

Enforcement (ICE) is drafting a new policy for handling student visa terminations. Until then, students' SEVIS records will remain active or

be reactivated, and no records will be terminated solely due to minor criminal charges or dismissed cases. However, it remains uncertain whether the State Department will reinstate the visas already canceled, especially for students targeted earlier for alleged disruptions tied to pro-Palestinian activism. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had canceled dozens of visas citing risks to US foreign policy.

Despite the relief, ICE emphasized it retains the authority to terminate SEVIS records for other valid reasons, such as if students fail to maintain their nonimmigrant status or engage in activities that make them removable under US immigration laws.

The decision brings significant relief to thousands of students who had faced months of fear and uncertainty about their future in the United States.

A growing concern is unfolding among immigration attorneys in the United States. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has started requesting home address details and biometric data from H-1B visa applicants, a departure from previous practices. This development coincides with the Trump administration's enhanced enforcement clampdowns, posing significant challenges for international students studying at over 240 colleges and universities across the country.

Immigration officials are issuing Requests for Evidence (RFEs) in H-1B visa cases, seeking personal data, including home addresses and biometrics. This move has sparked questions about the federal agency's intentions.

According to immigration attorneys, these RFEs are unusual, as biometrics are not typically required for H-1B visa applications. Vic Goel, an immigration attorney at Goel & Anderson, expressed surprise at the requests, and told Forbes, "This is highly unusual because biometrics are not typically required for these case types."

New York/Washington:

The United States has said it stands with India and strongly condemns all acts of terrorism, calling for perpetrators of the “heinous” Pahalgam terror attack to be brought to justice.

“As President (Donald) Trump and Secretary (Marco) Rubio have made clear, the United States stands with India,

strongly condemns all acts of terrorism," State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said Thursday. "We pray for the lives of those lost and for the recovery of the injured and call for the perpetrators of this heinous act to be brought to justice,” Bruce added. Twenty-six civilians were killed on Tuesday when terrorists opened fire at them near Kashmir's Pahalgam town. Most of those killed were tourists. Responding to a question on whether the US sees Pakistan as potentially being behind the attack and if Washington is playing any role in trying to de-escalate tensions between the nations, Bruce said the issue was highlighted due to the severity of the situation but added that no further comment would be made at this time

Opposition Supports Anti-Terror Steps, Questions Pahalgam Security

A day after India announced a series of measures against Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack, leaders across political lines expressed full support for the government's actions. However, several Opposition leaders raised concerns over what they called “lapses” in security and intelligence that enabled the attack.

At an all-party meeting held on Thursday, the government briefed political leaders on the situation and the steps being taken. The meeting was attended by key members of the Cabinet Committee

on Security (CCS) — Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar — who shared the Centre’s assessment and outlined the response measures. While the Opposition extended unconditional backing to the government's action against those responsible for the attack, they questioned the overall preparedness of the security and intelligence machinery. The absence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the meeting also drew criticism from several Opposition members.

Pakistan Threatens to Suspend All Bilateral Pacts, Including Simla

New Delhi: In response to India's strong measures after the Pahalgam terror attack, Pakistan has threatened to suspend all bilateral agreements, including the Simla Agreement, which underpins the Line of Control. Pakistan also reacted sharply to India's suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, calling any diversion of water an “Act of War.” Islamabad is reducing Indian diplomatic staff, closing the Wagah border, suspending SAARC visas (except for Sikh pilgrims), and halting trade and Indian airline access to its airspace. Both countries have declared certain diplomats persona non grata, escalating tensions in the already strained India-Pakistan relationship.

After making a brief appearance in the 1990 film En Veedu En Kanavar, he made his lead debut in 1993 with Amaravathi. Initially known for his roles in romance-driven films, Ajith later shifted to action-packed roles at the turn of the century, with movies like Amarkalam, Dheena, and Citizen. Movies like Varalaaru, Billa, and Mankatha solidified Ajith's status as one of the top superstars in Tamil cinema. A recipient of the Kalaimamani award, he has also won three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.

‘Never asked a producer my picture’s

size on a poster’

R Madhavan

Once in a while, actors come across scripts that they know will be a legacy film.

To R Madhavan, that happened with director Karan Singh Tyagi’s Kesari Chapter 2. “It’s a film that will transcend time. Rang De Basanti [2006] was one of them,

3 Idiots [2009] too. You get the feeling in your bones. During

3 Idiots, I told Raju [Rajkumar Hirani] that he will have a tough time trying to beat this one. The same goes for Karan Singh Tyagi,” grins the actor.

In Kesari Chapter 2, the director offers a dramatised version of history with Akshay Kumar’s C Sankaran Nair fighting the British Raj’s attempt to underplay their role in the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Madhavan plays Neville McKinley, the lawyer representing the Crown. His character may not be at the front and centre of the narrative, but fits perfectly with Madhavan’s pursuit of meaningful stories, regardless of his screen time. He explains, “I want to be a pixel of a larger story. If the story works, all of us benefit. I don’t take my stardom seriously, which is why I do the kind of films I do. If I took it seriously, I’d want to know my screen [time], or who’s standing in front of me. You can ask any of my producers. I’ve never asked them, ‘What’s the size of my picture on the poster?’”

The senior actor walked into the period drama knowing that it was being made “for the right reasons”. His belief was further strengthened by Kumar’s involvement. He recalls, “Two weeks before the release, Akshay sir called me at 4 am. He said, ‘Our clash is going well, but in the end, my character wins fair and square. I don’t want you to be the guy who is forgotten.’ He wanted a closure scene. He flew down from Chennai, I did from Dubai. We shot it two weeks before the release. When people are going out of their way to do a job, you know it’s a special project.”

Kesari Veer trailer launch

Suniel Shetty, Akanksha Sharma, Sooraj Pancholi, director Prince Dhiman and producer Kanubhai Chauhan launched the trailer of their historical action drama, Kesari Veer, at a multiplex in Mumbai. The film marks the return of Sooraj Pancholi, and he got overwhelmed with the love he got for the trailer and also by the words of Suniel Shetty. Suniel Shetty reminded the audience of the obstacles Sooraj Pancholi faced in his life when he was accused of abetting the suicide of actress Jiah Khan. The court, however, acquitted him of all charges.

claimed that Khan invited her to his house and made inappropriate sexual demands. "There was a terrible, terrible man whom I would never want to meet again in my life called Sajid Khan. He came after so many of us after Gladrags and really pushed the envelope when it came to disrespecting women," she said.

Fresh allegations have emerged against filmmaker Sajid Khan, who was previously accused of inappropriate behavior during the #MeToo movement. Recently, TV actress Navina Bole accused the filmmaker of sexual harassment, claiming that he asked her to "take off her clothes." Bole is most popularly known for her role in the show Ishqbaaz.

Navina Bole spoke about facing casting couch experiences in the film industry during an interview with Subhajit Ghosh on his YouTube channel. She

She further mentioned that she met Khan during the casting of the film Heyy Babyy, which starred Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, and Fardeen Khan. “I was really excited when he called me, and then he literally said, ‘Why don’t you just take off your clothes and sit in your lingerie? I need to see how comfortable you are.’ I am talking about 2004 to 2006 when I did Gladrags.”The actress also revealed that Sajid contacted her a year later while she was participating in Mrs. India. She recounted, “He had called me again and asked, ‘What do you do? You should come see me for a role.’ And I said to myself, this guy must be hitting on so many women that he doesn’t even remember he had already called me a year ago and behaved inappropriately.”

asika Dugal’s film Little Thomas has been selected as the closing feature at the New York Indian Film Festival. Its inclusion added another feather to the cap of an actor celebrated for her textured portrayals and remarkable range.Directed by Kaushal Oza, Little Thomas is a quiet, character-driven narrative set in Goa, and Dugal’s role added yet another dimension to her evolving repertoire. Rasika said, “Little Thomas is a beautiful and lyrical story about the simple life of a Goan family and the innocent chaos within that simplicity. I got a chance to explore the life of Jessie Miranda (the character I play) and her love for music. Bonus — I got to learn how to play the piano! What more can an actor ask for. Technology has given us so much to play with in filmmaking that sometimes, I feel, the soul of a film gets drowned in the razzmatazz. Little Thomas is not doing any of that. It commits to its narrative without any unnecessary frills.

Three Arrested in Brutal Attack on Chicago Uber Driver

CHICAGO, IL-Three suspects are in custody following a violent assault last month that left a Chicago Uber driver severely injured and missing several teeth, police said.

The attack occurred around 9:50 p.m. on March 21 in the 3600 block of West Grenshaw Street. According to authorities, less than an hour earlier, the suspects stole a cellphone from a Whitney Young High School student and used it to order a ride from 58-yearold Muhammad Jawaid.

Jawaid picked up the suspects at the CTA Blue Line station near Halsted and Van Buren streets and drove them west to Central Park Avenue and Grenshaw Street.

“I was in panic and shock… This boy came outside, opened my door, and started hitting my face with a gun,” Jawaid recalled.

Once they arrived, the suspects pulled out firearms, attacked Jawaid, and stole his wallet and cellphone. They attempted to steal his Honda Pilot, but the vehicle failed to start. The group fled, leaving Jawaid — a father of two — injured on the street with serious head and facial wounds. He was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital for treatment.

Within a week, detectives arrested 18-year-old Jeremiah Burns and two 17-year-olds in connection with the attack. Surveillance footage from the Blue Line station helped identify the suspects.

“I told detectives I recognized their jackets from the surveillance at the pickup location,” Jawaid said.

An Uber spokesperson condemned the violence, stating:

“This appalling act of violence has no place in our communities. Our thoughts remain with the driver, and we've reached out to check in. We're working closely with police and will continue to support their inves-tigation to help ensure those responsible are brought to justice.”

Burns was arrested on March 27 in the 1100 block of South Central Park Avenue. He faces multiple charg-es, including:

• Three felony counts of armed robbery

• Two felony counts of robbery

• One felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm

• One misdemeanor count of obstructing identification Jawaid said he now faces a full mouth extraction, with dental reconstruction costs estimated between $40,000 and $50,000.

3 U.S. Citizen Children Deported, One Undergoing Cancer Treatment

HARRISBURG, PA — Three U.S. citizen children — including a 4-yearold undergoing treatment for meta-static cancer — were deported to Honduras with their undocumented mothers last week, according to at-torneys and civil rights groups. The deportations occurred during routine check-ins under the Intensive Su-pervision Appearance Program (ISAP) in Louisiana. In one case, a mother took her 2-year-old with her; in another, a mother was deported with her 4- and 7-year-old children. Attorneys say these actions highlight due process failures in the Trump administration’s immigration policies. Gracie Willis of the National Immigration Project, representing the 2-year-old through a petitioner, stated the mother was never given a true choice to leave her child behind, rejecting claims by officials cit-ing a handwritten note.

Erin Hebert, another attorney, said her clients were detained without access to legal counsel and deported within 24 hours, despite a filed stay of removal. Both mothers had outstanding deportation orders due to missed court hearings.

ACLU of Louisiana's executive director, Alanah Odoms, called the removals alarming, especially as they involved law-abiding residents and sick children. “If ICE can do this to mothers and children, no one is safe from this kind of lawlessness,” she warned.

USCIS Assists in Breaking Up Nationwide Marriage Fraud Scheme

BALTIMORE, MD – U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) played a critical role in a mul-ti-agency investigation— led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Department of State Diplomatic Security Service, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland—which resulted in the arrests of individuals involved in a nationwide marriage fraud ring. Four people have been federally indicted for orchestrating and facilitating fraudulent visa and marriage arrangements. Through coordinated efforts, ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and USCIS identified numerous cases where immigration benefits were sought through sham marriages.

On April 24, ten individuals were administratively arrested as a result of the operation.

The investigation began in April 2022, when HSI Maryland’s Document and Benefit Fraud/El Dorado Task Force, with support from USCIS, started looking into individuals suspected of engaging in fraudulent mar-riages to help foreign nationals unlawfully obtain immigration benefits. Investigators determined that Ella Zuran, Tatiana Sigal, and Alexandra Tkach— all residents of New York City—had arranged fake marriages in exchange for thousands of dollars. They also prepared fraudulent immigration forms and fabricated health documents to support these applications.

Shawnta Hopper, of Sicklerville, New Jersey, was also named in a federal grand jury indictment. She alleg-edly recruited U.S. citizens, primarily women from Baltimore and other locations, to enter into sham mar-riages for financial compensation.

“Some marriages are made in heaven. Some are just made up,” said USCIS spokesperson Matthew Trag-esser. “Our collaboration with ICE dismantled a fraud ring where U.S. citizens were paid to marry foreign nationals. Under Secretary Noem’s leadership, fraudsters are being arrested. Buying a spouse doesn’t make you a citizen.”

As a result of the investigation, immigration benefits obtained through these fraudulent marriages have been revoked.

Bangladesh Citizen Arrested at Peace Bridge for Hidden Murder Charges

BUFFALO, NY — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Port of Buffalo, Peace Bridge border crossing, arrested a Bangladesh citizen who admitted to being previously arrested and charged with murder in 2004.

On April 19, CBP officers encountered Md-Jamilur Rahman, a 57-year-old citizen of Bangladesh, after he was denied entry into Canada. During secondary inspection, Rahman admitted that he had failed to dis-close on his U.S. visa application that he had been arrested and charged with murder by Bangladeshi au-thorities. This omission was determined to be visa fraud, as he withheld critical information to gain entry into the United States.

“Our vigilant and skilled CBP officers took the extra steps to identify and apprehend a violent illegal alien,” said Buffalo Port Director Gaetano Cordone.

“Their outstanding work ensured this individual was held ac-countable and will now be deported to his home country.”

Rahman was processed by CBP and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). He is currently being held at the Federal Detention Facility in Batavia, New York, awaiting removal proceedings.

Why Are Legal U.S. Citizens Getting ‘Time for You to Leave’ Emails from DHS?

WASHNGTON, DC - Several U.S. citizens have reported mistakenly receiving alarming emails from the De-partment of Homeland Security (DHS), ordering them to leave the country or face possible law enforce-ment action. Among the recipients was Los Angeles immigration lawyer Harriet Steele, a California-born citizen. The email warned: “Do not attempt to remain in the United States—the federal government will find you.”

DHS later acknowledged the error, explaining that Steele’s address was linked to a group of over 900,000 people on two-year work visas, possibly because some individuals listed her contact information without her knowledge. A DHS spokesperson stated, “If a non-personal email—such as an American citizen con-tact—was provided by the alien, notices may have been sent to unintended recipients.” Customs and Bor-der Protection (CBP) is monitoring the situation and addressing cases individually. Steele criticized the administration, calling the incident an example of “cruelty and incompetence.” Other U.S. citizens, including Connecticut physician Lise Anderson and Massachusetts attorney Nicole Micheroni, also received similar notices. Micheroni shared, “It’s a little concerning these are going out to U.S. citi-zens.”

Officials reiterated, “If you are an alien, being in the United States is a privilege—not a right,” while con-firming ongoing enforcement of immigration laws.

chapter of the NAACP, and Lieutenant Eugenio Bueno of the Reno Police Department.

“We, the leaders of various religions and denominations, feel this loss as one spiritual family. Today, we stand united in prayer for Pope Francis, remembering him as an inspiration to millions for his vision of a compassionate and inclusive world,” said Rajan Zed.

Host Toni King added, “As religious leaders, we come together to mourn the loss of Pope Francis and pray for the repose of his soul. We give thanks for his life and leadership — marked by humility, inclusivity, moral courage, and service to humanity.”

“We urge religious leaders worldwide to keep Pope Francis in their thoughts and continue his mission of building bridges of peace, championing the oppressed and the poor, promoting freedom of religion, and fostering global outreach and interfaith dialogue,” Zed emphasized. “Let us walk together in love, justice, and peace — embracing shared values and the pursuit of the common good.”

USCIS Aids FBI in Foiling ISIS-Inspired Election Day Terror Plot

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) played a key role in an FBI-led Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) investigation that led to the conviction of an Afghan national for planning an ISIS-inspired Election Day attack. Abdullah Haji Zada, 18, a lawful permanent resident originally from Afghanistan, pleaded guilty to terrorism-related firearms charges. Court records show that Zada and coconspirator Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, 27, obtained two AK-47-style rifles and 500 rounds of ammunition for the planned November 2024 attack.

Zada, arrested at 17, entered his guilty plea as an adult. He faces up to 15 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and will be deported to Afghanistan after serving his sentence. As part of the plea deal, he waived his rights to appeal or seek asylum.

USCIS’s Fraud Detection and National Security (FDNS) unit in Oklahoma City contributed crucial immigra-tion expertise during the investigation. FDNS works closely with law enforcement to prevent immigration benefits from being granted to individuals who pose national security risks.

The investigation was a joint effort by the FBI Oklahoma City Field Office, USCIS, Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Marshals Service, and other federal and local agencies.

Undocumented Immigrants at Risk of Losing Driver’s Licenses in Some States

FLORIDA- - As drivers cross state lines on U.S. highways, they are often greeted by “Welcome to...” signs. But not all drivers are truly welcome everywhere. Florida, Wyoming, and Tennessee are among the Republican-led states taking steps to bar certain out-of-state driver's licenses issued to immigrants living illegally in the U.S. Tennessee’s Governor recently pledged to sign similar legislation, with lawmakers there stating the message is clear: undocumented im-migrants are not welcome to drive in their state.

These actions reflect a broader push by several states to align with former President Donald Trump’s hard-line stance on immigration. In contrast, 19 states and Washington, D.C. allow driver’s licenses regardless of immigration status.

Under the federal REAL ID Act, set to be enforced this year, licenses used for identification at airports and

federal buildings must meet strict documentation standards. However, states retain the right to issue sep-arate licenses to those without proof of legal presence, as long as they meet other local requirements.

Florida, in 2023, became the first to invalidate some out-of-state licenses specifically marked for undocu-mented immigrants, affecting licenses from

IC3 Report: Californians Report $2.5 Billion in Cybercrime Losses

LOS ANGELES, CA—The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) has released its 2024 Internet Crime Report, revealing alarming trends in online fraud. The report highlights 859,532 complaints of suspected Internet crimes, with reported losses exceeding $16 billion—a 33% increase from 2023. California ranked #1 among all states for the highest number of complaints. Notably, California residents aged 60 and older suffered the greatest financial losses, over $800 million, and submitted the most com-plaints. The top three cybercrimes reported in California were Cryptocurrency Fraud, Extortion, and Phish-ing/Spoofing. “This report is a

sobering reminder that Californians, especially seniors, are prime targets for scammers,” said Akil Davis, assistant director of the FBI Los Angeles Field Office. He emphasized the importance of cyber vigilance and encouraged practicing good cyber hygiene at home to create a safer online environ-ment. The IC3 annual report plays a key role in tracking Internet crime trends and raising public awareness. The FBI urges anyone who suspects they’ve been a victim of cybercrime to report it via the IC3 website (www.ic3.gov), contact the FBI Los Angeles Field Office (310-4776565), or visit tips.fbi.gov. Established in 2000, the IC3 database now holds over nine million complaints. The FBI stresses that every report helps law enforcement better understand and combat Internet-facilitated crimes. Businesses and individuals are also encouraged to review IC3 alerts regularly and notify financial institutions and law en-forcement immediately if affected.

DEA Raid on Colorado Club Nets Dozens, Including Military Members

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO- A Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) raid over the weekend in Colorado Springs resulted in the detention of more than 100 individuals suspected of being in the United States ille-gally.

The operation, which took place during overnight hours, targeted a local nightclub where authorities esti-mate over 200 people were inside at the time. Along with the arrests, an undisclosed quantity of drugs and firearms was seized. Among those detained were a dozen active-duty military members, either working as armed security or present as patrons. Several others were arrested on outstanding warrants. Officials did not release details on the nationalities of the detained immigrants.

The DEA Rocky Mountain Division shared a video of agents outside the building, ordering patrons to exit with their hands up. More than 300 law enforcement personnel from multiple agencies participated in the operation.

“When the cops showed up at the door, most of the drugs hit the floor,” said DEA spokesperson Pullen. “Colorado Springs is waking up to a safer community today.”

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi praised the raid on social media, stating it reflects President Trump’s di-rective to “make America safe again.”

Court Reinstates Student Visas, Bringing Relief to Indian Students

ATLANTA, GA – A federal court has reinstated student visas for 133 international students—many of them Indian nationals—following an April 18 order that temporarily blocks the Trump administration’s efforts to strip their legal status.

Judge Victoria M. Calvert of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia ruled that ICE must halt deportation proceedings against these students. Data from the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) shows Indian students were

the most affected, with nearly 50% of the 327 reviewed visa revocation cases involving Indian nationals. Most impacted students held F-1 visas and were participating in the Optional Practical Training (OPT) pro-gram, a key pathway for graduates, especially in STEM fields, to gain U.S. work experience. Losing OPT status would prevent them from pursuing employment or transitioning to H-1B visas. The ACLU of Georgia, which filed the lawsuit, argued the government’s actions were politically motivated and violated due process. The suit highlighted that many students faced revocations for minor infractions or without any criminal record. Some SEVIS terminations reportedly occurred without proper notice to students or their schools, bypassing standard procedures. The case remains ongoing as advocacy groups push to protect international students’ rights.

positive addition to the community. The program also included an update on the “Start Here, Go Anywhere” initiative—a collaboration be-tween the Rotary Club and RiseBack. The initiative, launched earlier this year, was introduced through a video presentation by Parvez, who shared its mission and early achievements.

NEW YORK, NY – The Indian American Muslims of North America (IAMNA) has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives and injuries suffered by many.

In a statement released on April 25, IAMNA called the attack an assault on humanity, justice, and peace, and expressed solidarity with the victims and the people of India. The organization firmly denounced ter-rorism in all its forms, stating that no cause can justify

such brutal violence.

Following an emergency session, IAMNA’s leadership issued a joint statement underscoring the urgent need to confront

terrorism with courage and moral clarity. They urged the Government of India to take swift and decisive action to identify and prosecute those responsible, ensuring

that innocent lives are never the cost of extremism.

IAMNA also strongly condemned any attempts to communalize this tragedy. The organization appealed to the media and political leaders to avoid divisive rhetoric and to ensure that the pursuit of justice is guided by truth, not prejudice. Pointing to possible security lapses, IAMNA called on Indian authorities to conduct a thorough review and implement stronger measures to prevent such attacks in the future. The organization emphasized that the safety and security of every citizen, regardless of faith, must remain a top priority.

Cheti Chand 2025: A Heartfelt Celebration of Sindhiyat by SAMC

CHICAGO, IL- It felt like a homecoming. The air carried the fragrance of Sindh, the walls echoed with “Jai Jhulelal”, and the beats of the dhol set the rhythm of the soul. The Sindhi Association of Metropolitan Chi-cago (SAMC) hosted a spiritually uplifting and culturally rich Cheti Chand 2025 celebration at Ashyana Ban-quets — a beautiful tribute to Sindhiyat, faith, festivity, food, and family. The evening began with the sacred Behrana Sahib and a soul-stirring Arti led by Mrs. Devika, whose heart-felt voice brought tears to many eyes. Devotees sang and swayed together, invoking Jhulelal Sain, the pro-tector and unifier of the Sindhi community. The Jhulelal Juloos (procession), with women adorned in bright Sindhi Ajrak and men in traditional Sindhi topis, showcased a vibrant expression of devotion, culminating in the immersion ritual and distribution of prasad.

This unforgettable event was thoughtfully planned by President Vinita Gulabani and visionary leader Sub-hash Balaney, along with a team of dedicated volunteers. “It was my fifth time chanting ‘Jai Jhulelal’ on stage, and each time feels just as special,” shared Vinita. Anil Punjwani added, “Subhashji’s wisdom and leadership turned this into a celebration of unity, not just tradition.”

A special mention to Dr. Gita Rupani, who beautifully set up the pooja space with grace and sanctity, evok-ing memories of temples back home in Sindh. “It felt like my childhood temple in Larkana,” whispered Sudhir Raheja, visibly moved. The evening also featured an inspiring address by the Chief Guest, Consul General of India, Mr. Somnath Ghosh, who praised the Sindhi community as torchbearers of one of the oldest living civilizations. He high-lighted the annual Sindhi Conference in Ladakh where Sindhi contributions to world heritage are

honored — met with resounding applause.

Engaging MCs Ria Matta and Henna Ballaney brought charm and warmth to the event. The cultural seg-ment dazzled with dance performances — men led by Vikas Kalwani and women by Vinita Gulabani herself. The musical duo Swapnil Sahu and Rinki Talati kept the energy high, blending peppy beats with soulful mel-odies, prompting Kavita Vanjani to exclaim, “This is Sindh!”

The event was proudly presented by the SAMC Board:

TALLAHASSEE, FL- Federal authorities have launched a major immigration enforcement operation in Flori-da, targeting around 800 undocumented immigrants in the first coordinated effort between federal and state police under the Trump administration. individuals with criminal records or final deportation orders. While specific selection criteria remain unclear, ICE officials stated that they arrest individuals who violate immigration laws or commit crimes, as part of routine enforcement. Due to security concerns, ICE declined to confirm details about ongoing operations. This crackdown represents a

growing partnership between federal immigration authorities and Florida law enforcement, encouraged by Governor Ron DeSantis. Nearly 230 Florida agencies have signed 287(g) agreements with ICE, allowing local officers to perform certain immigration enforcement duties. Another 70 agencies have pending applications. These collaborations highlight the administration’s push to expand local involvement in federal immigration enforcement, marking Florida as the state with the highest num-ber of such agreements nationwide. Homeland Security has not commented further on target selection.

H-1B Workers Targeted in Latest Immigration Actions

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. immigration authorities are issuing Requests for Evidence (RFEs) for H-1B visa and employment-based immigrant petitions, asking for home addresses and physical characteristics to verify applicants' identities. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) claims these RFEs are based on “adverse information” it holds about certain individuals.

An RFE is a formal notice from USCIS requesting additional documentation or clarification needed to pro-cess a petition. As reported by Newsweek, these requests do not equate to denials but are part of the re-view process that allows applicants to resolve gaps or inconsistencies.

Forbes highlighted that it remains unclear whether this move aligns with broader enforcement strategies under the Trump administration, which has historically supported work-based visas like the H-1B but op-posed other

visa categories, including student visas.

Immigration attorneys report that these RFEs are unusual, as USCIS typically conducts employmentbased petition reviews through written documentation provided by the sponsoring employer. Kevin Miner, an at-torney at Fragomen, told Forbes that requesting biometric and residential information at this stage devi-ates from standard procedures.

The H-1B visa program permits U.S. employers to hire foreign workers in specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor’s degree, such as technology, engineering, finance, and architecture. According to the American Immigration Council, the program has an annual cap of 65,000 visas, with an additional 20,000 reserved for candidates holding advanced U.S. degrees. Major corporations like Amazon, Google, Meta, and Tesla have utilized this program extensively.

The FBI Released Its Internet Crime Report 2024

ATLANTA, GA—The FBI released its Internet Crime Report 2024. It shows Internet-related complaints and crimes continued to increase significantly in Georgia and across the country.

In 2024, the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) received 859,532 complaints with related losses topping $16.6 billion. That is a 33% increase in losses from 2023.

Georgia ranked 11th in complaints filed by state in 2024 (13th in 2023) with reported potential losses at $420 million. That is a 40% increase year to year. Nationally, the top three cybercrimes, by the number of complaints reported in 2024, were: phish-ing/spoofing, extortion, and personal data breaches. In terms of losses, cryptocurrencyrelated losses by far exceed any other category.

“While the top threats facing Georgia

and the nation from cyber criminals and fraudsters continue to evolve, their main goal remains stealing your hard-earned money,” said FBI Atlanta Special Agent in Charge Paul Brown. “The cornerstone of the FBI’s mission remains to protect American citizens.

LAPD Warns Public After Spike in Jewelry Thefts Targeting Elderly

LOS ANGELES, CA- Los Angeles police held a news conference Tuesday to alert the public about a sharp rise in distraction-style jewelry thefts, primarily targeting elderly victims.

Authorities reported multiple incidents across Southern California, including two recent cases in Manhattan Beach. According to the LAPD, these crimes typically occur during daytime hours in residential neighbor-hoods and are carried out by organized groups.

Victims are often approached by suspects described as Caucasian, possibly of Eastern European de-scent—usually a man and woman, sometimes accompanied by children. The suspects may be on foot or in rented vehicles. The thieves commonly distract their victims by asking for directions, offering compliments, or requesting prayers. During the interaction, they present a "gift" of fake jewelry, placing it on the victim’s neck while secretly removing the real jewelry.

“Many victims don’t realize their jewelry has been stolen until after the suspects leave,” police noted in a community bulletin.

The LAPD’s recent crime report estimates at least 140 such thefts in Los Angeles so far this year. Police are urging the public to stay alert and follow safety precautions.

Victims are often approached by suspects described as Caucasian, possibly of Eastern European de-scent— usually a man and woman, sometimes accompanied by children.

Criminals continue to target the elderly (Age 60+) at a high rate. In Georgia, complaints by seniors in-creased 71% year over year (2114 to 3622). Reported

losses in Georgia by seniors increased 89% ($92 mil-lion in 2023 to $174 million in 2024). Georgia’s rank in reported losses by state rose from 10th to 7th.

Reports of cryptocurrency-related crimes jumped in Georgia by 122% (1590 in 2023 to 3533 in 2024). Estimated losses to cryptocurrency-related crimes in the state increased by 66 % ($118,750,468 in 2023 to $197,647,537 in 2024).

Thousands May Lose Disability Payments from Social Security in May

WASHINGTON, DC- Thousands of people across the United States are expected to lose their Disability payments starting in May — but this is not due to any arbitrary cuts or sudden decisions by the Social Security Administration (SSA). Instead, this is part of a scheduled review process designed to verify whether beneficiaries still meet the eligibility criteria to receive these payments. If a recipient no longer qualifies, their payments are discontinued. This process has always been part of the program’s guidelines.

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) provides crucial financial support to millions of Americans who are unable to work due to a serious medical condition. However, because eligibility for these benefits de-pends on both medical status and work limitations, periodic reviews are conducted to confirm that recipi-ents still qualify.

These decisions are not made randomly. Each case is evaluated individually. In many instances, the review finds that the beneficiary has either returned to work, experienced significant health improvement, or no longer meets the medical requirements. The goal of these reviews is to ensure that Disability funds con-tinue to support those who truly need assistance.

Who May Lose Their Disability Payments?

• You may lose your Disability payments if any of the following apply:

• Your medical condition no longer meets the SSA’s definition of disability.

• You are now able to work for at least 12 consecutive months.

• Your income exceeds the SSA’s

allowable limit.

• Your medical condition has shown significant improvement. You have returned to work and are earning above the program’s income threshold — even if your disability remains.

If the SSA determines through a medical review that your condition has improved enough to permit full-time work, your payments may be suspended.

What Can You Do if Payments Are Stopped?

If you receive a notice from the SSA that your Disability payments will be suspended, you have the right to appeal. The appeal process allows your case to be re-evaluated, giving you the opportunity to submit up-dated medical records, doctor’s statements, and other evidence supporting your continued eligibility.

In some cases, you may continue receiving payments while your appeal is under review. However, if the SSA’s final decision confirms ineligibility, any payments made during the appeal period may need to be re-paid. Acting quickly and seeking proper legal or professional advice is strongly recommended.

Consider Other Assistance Options

While the loss of SSDI benefits can create financial uncertainty, some individuals may qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or other assistance programs if they meet certain low-income requirements. The key is to respond promptly to any SSA notifications and explore alternative options as soon as possible.

Feds Charge Three in Cross-Border Drug Money Laundering Operation

FLORENCE, SC- A federal grand jury in Florence, South Carolina, has indicted Nasir Ullah, 28, Naim Ullah, 32, both of Sumter, South Carolina, and Puquan Huang, 49, of Buford, Georgia, for allegedly conspiring to launder millions of dollars derived from drug trafficking operations.

According to the indictment, the defendants helped funnel over $30 million in drug proceeds — tied to the distribution of cocaine, fentanyl, and other illegal narcotics — through China and the Middle East. These funds were reportedly disguised through transactions such as the shipment of electronic goods to conceal the illegal source of the money.

REDWOOD CITY, CA –The American India Foundation (AIF) Bay Area Chapter hosted its annual gala on April 19 at the Fox Theatre and Courthouse Square, raising over $2.4 million to support its mission of improving the lives of underserved communities in India. The evening’s highlight was the Pledge Drive, which alone raised a record-breaking $1 million.

This year’s gala honored Anu Bharadwaj, President of Atlassian, and Charles H. Giancarlo, Chairman and CEO of Pure Storage, for their outstanding leadership and commitment to social impact. Bharadwaj em-phasized the transformative power of education, stating that expanding access to learning unlocks the potential within communities. Giancarlo echoed the call

for global giving, urging leaders to actively engage through innovation and philanthropy.

AIF CEO Nishant Pandey praised the honorees and expressed gratitude to the organization’s network of supporters for their generosity. The evening also featured inspiring stories from beneficiaries like 17-year-old Asma Maryam of Chennai, whose passion for science was fueled by AIF’s Digital Equalizer pro-gram, and Sunita from Haryana, empowered by AIF’s Livelihoods program to become a successful entre-preneur.

The investigation, led by the DEA Charleston Resident Office, involved several federal, state, and local agencies, including the FBI, U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and multiple sheriff’s offices and police departments. If convicted, each defendant faces up to 20 years in prison for conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Trial Attorneys from the Justice Department’s Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Section and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina are prosecuting the case. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Trump Faces Negative Ratings on Immigration in Latest Polls

WASHINGTON, DC- President Donald Trump is facing declining approval ratings on immigration — a key issue of his second term agenda. Multiple polls released this week show a slight drop in public support as he pushes forward with aggressive immigration policies, including mass deportations and crackdowns on sanctuary cities.

Poll shows 53% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of immigration, with only 46% approving. The Associated Press/ NORC poll reported identical numbers. Both surveys mark a small but notable decline from earlier polls this year, where approval and disapproval were nearly split.

Tech Staffing

Firm, Sentenced for H-1B Visa Fraud Scheme

SAN JOSE, CA– Kishore Dattapuram, 55, owner of the technology staffing firm Nanosemantics, has been sentenced to 14 months in federal prison for orchestrating a scheme to defraud the H-1B visa program. The Santa Clara businessman pleaded guilty to conspiracy and visa fraud charges. Dattapuram’s company specialized in

placing skilled foreign workers at Bay Area tech firms. To gain an un-fair advantage, Nanosemantics submitted

false visa petitions, claiming workers had jobs secured at specific companies — even when no such positions existed. In some cases, Dattapuram paid companies to falsely list themselves as the end employers, fully aware that the workers would not be hired by them. The scheme allowed Nanosemantics to obtain H-1B visas for candidates ahead of actual job openings, by-passing

standard visa processing timelines and giving the company a competitive edge. U.S. District Judge Edward J. Davila sentenced Dattapuram to 14 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. The sentence also includes forfeiture of more than $125,000, a $7,500 fine, and ad-ditional court fees.

Financial Pressures Push Avelo Airlines Into Deportation Flight Operations

HOUSTON, TX- Avelo Airlines, a Houston-based budget carrier, will begin operating deportation flights un-der a contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) starting May 12. This move, aimed at boosting revenue, marks an unusual shift for a commercial airline, as deportation flights are typically han-dled by smaller charter companies.

The airline, which launched in 2021, only reached profitability in late 2023 and is privately owned, so it does not disclose quarterly financials.

The decision has already sparked backlash. Avelo

CEO Andrew Levy acknowledged the controversy in a message to employees, explaining that after “extensive deliberations,” the airline concluded that this op-portunity was “too valuable not to pursue,” as it would help stabilize finances and protect jobs for its 1,100 crew members.

The deportation flights will operate with three unmarked planes, painted white with no logos, departing from Mesa, Arizona, to foreign destinations and U.S. detention centers, according to The Wall Street Journal. The decision comes amid heightened

immigration enforcement policies under former President Donald Trump, including efforts to revoke legal status from over half a million migrants and increased de-portations, including Venezuelans and others arriving through a border appointment system.

Levy emphasized that the contract flying will allow Avelo to continue expanding its core passenger service while maintaining financial stability. However, the airline now finds itself at the center of a heated debate over immigration policy and corporate ethics.

UC Berkeley Students Hold Vigil for Pahalgam Attack Victims

BERKELEY, CA - Students at the University of California, Berkeley, gathered on April 23 for a solemn candle-light vigil to honor the 26 lives lost in the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The event was organized by Hindu Yuva USA and the Youth Action Network of the Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA). The vigil provided a space for reflection and collective mourning, especially for young Kashmiri Hindu American students and alumni, many of whom carry the pain of displacement and family trauma.

In a social media post, CoHNA

described the attack as “religiously motivated,” stating that the victims were

targeted after their Hindu identity was confirmed. The organization noted that the vigil allowed stu-dents to share their grief and find comfort in community solidarity.

“We salute these brave students and the Berkeley chapters of CoHNA Youth Action Network and Hindu Yuva for organizing this heartfelt vigil so swiftly in response to the tragic news,” CoHNA said. Hindu Yuva USA, in a separate statement, strongly condemned the attack, calling it a “senseless act of ter-ror” fueled by hatred and division. The group expressed solidarity with the victims and called for peace and meaningful solutions to prevent such violence.
