Subsequently, the members proceeded to Ekuphumleni Old Age Home in Zwide to visit the elderly members of the community. The residents received gift packets and enjoyed a warm visit from the military members. We pay tribute to those forgotten heroes who gave their all on the battlefield and in their communities.

Let us always remember to give without expecting anything in return, not only on Mandela Day.
he Area Military Health Unit Eastern Cape marked Nelson Mandela Day on July 18, 2023, by combining Mental Health Awareness Month with Mandela Day activities. The unit chose to visit Lake Farm Adult Care Centre in Kragga Kamma, a residence for individuals with intellectual challenges, and Ekuphumleni Old Age Home in Zwide, which cares for the elderly, including Military Veterans.
Everyone enjoyed playing volleyball, participating in Tug-of-war, and engaging in various sports activities. The day was a resounding success, providing members and participants with a chance to have fun and distress. As per the National Institute of Health, physical activity boosts the production of feelgood brain hormones known as endorphins. So, the next time you feel overwhelmed, consider getting up and going for a walk or run. The event concluded with the presentation of cakes and drinks to the Lake Farm residents.
