Dear Members,

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

James (Jim) McClymont

I hope all members and our wider community had an enjoyable and safe Christmas. It has been great seeing many members attending and enjoying the club over the festive season.

Late in 2023 the club held its Annual General Meeting, and it was pleasing to see an increase in members taking part.

Although, 40 seems a low number based on our 35,000 membership it was more than normal and included some good discussions and questions. Members informed about the pending Annual General Meeting each year say they don’t attend as they are happy with the vision and action of the club, and this is pleasing and reassuring to the board and management.

Whilst the Board are extremely satisfied and proud of the clubs’ achievements over the last sixty years, we also realise we need to raise the bar each year to remain one of the most successful clubs in Sydney. As explained at the AGM, we do this by forward planning not just for the immediate future but by 5 to 10 years and a longer vision. The Board realise they may not be there to see the fruits of their decisions they make, just as our predecessors, but we will leave a legacy for future club members to enjoy.

The Board is proud of its’ past achievements and the set up and ongoing changes it puts forward, to ensure we continue to grow for our members and wider community. We encourage members to be engaged in your club and be part of ensuring our club is delivering the great offerings, experience, and support to our community.

The club looks forward to 2024 and have some key actions and projects underway.

• We currently are working on engaging with Ryde Council in ensuring we are part of the vision for West Ryde moving forward and can ensure we have opportunities to grow and support the community and our direct precinct in a positive way.

• We are reviewing further master planning opportunities with a focus this year on progressing our vision.

• Management have been reviewing our club offering to ensure it is current and providing a great club to attend.

This journal outlines some great events and activities happening in the club.

I can assure you, our members, that the Board and Management will be continually working to bring our dreams and aspirations to reality in 2024. We will continue to work with our Councils both in Ryde and Thirroul as well as our State and Federal governments to better our communities.

I believe bigger and better things will be happening to your clubs to further assist our members and our community, in all of this we will keep members informed. Thanking you once again for your valuable support and look forward to seeing you at Ryde Eastwood and Club Thirroul.

James (Jim)

CEO’S REPORT

Dear Members,

I would firstly like to welcome all our new and existing members, their families, and the wider Ryde community into 2024. I hope everyone has had a safe and enjoyable time with family and friends and had a good start to the new year. Over December and January, it was great to see many current and new members enjoying the club activities with new food and beverage offerings, entertainment and promotions or just enjoying a catch up.

Over the last few months, we have been reviewing 2023 and planning our key focus areas for 2024. A key focus is ensuring our presence and contribution to the wider community as well as our focus on delivering a great offering and member benefits.

We recently had some great events at the club that members and residents enjoyed. Christmas Day was sold out with some great feedback on the Buffet and entertainment provided. The Christmas Activities with Santa and the Pet Photos were greatly appreciated, and our School Holidays events were heavily attended by families in the area. In late January we had a great Australia Day starting with the City of Ryde holding the Citizen Presentations followed by other Australia Day Promotions for members.

We have some great activities and events coming up for members as well as ongoing benefits and offers. Mother’s Day is a great day at the club with our popular buffet back on Sunday 12th May as well as some great promotions. Other events and promotions include:

• A special Valentine’s Day offer of a Show by legendary Phil Burton from Human Nature and an optional pre dinner Seafood Platter Dinner on Saturday 17th February;

• Footy Promotions start up with Wests Tigers Tickets, State of Origin;

• VIP event promotions, Easter promotions and Raffles; and

• Our entertainment lineup including comedian Joe Avati, Rocket Man vs Piano Man and Motown. On top of these we have some great seasonal food offers in East West Kitchen, Crystal Jade, and Coffee Club

We are currently planning capital works programs in our venues for 2024, to ensure the facilities meet the needs, standards, and expectations of our members. At Club Thirroul we have the final stage starting soon with the Kids Area, Alfresco Lounge and Club Entry/ Exit works. At Ryde we are looking at the Gaming and Lounge area upgrades, external club works, upgrades to our Functions and Events facilities and more.

Clubs including Ryde Eastwood continue to make significant contribution to support local communities. Recently the club reached out to members to assist in support to ensure we are seen as key to the community in the vision of Ryde.

For over 60 years, the Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club has been a vital hub for the local community, fostering connections, driving economic growth, providing vibrant community spaces, and serving as the key entertainment venue. The Club today supports 185 employees, over 35,000 members and welcomes over 500,000 visitors every year. The Club also injects $85m into the local and state economy annually. The nature of clubs is evolving, and we are embracing this change, with a vision to diversify our role in and how we service the community. This however does not change our vision to be ‘A place in the heart of the community for everyone to enjoy’ and to support our members and the wider community. We hope our members can be part of the journey in creating your future club.

Finally, thank you for being part of Ryde-Eastwood and Club Thirroul, and for your continued loyalty and support through 2023 and into 2024.

FOOTBALL REPORT

As we put our successful 2023 season behind us, we now look forward to the 2024 season.

As a club we are very excited to what 2024 season brings. As with all clubs, improvement is what we are striving for we have no doubt this will be achieved.

Our Ron Massey Cup and Sydney Shield teams started training last December. Retention within these two squads has always been really high with this season and no exception. We have a number of players returning to our club after gaining experience with various club’s in the NSW Cup competition.

We are excited that former Ryde Eastwood player and captain Jarred Farlow will remain as the clubs Head Coach. This will be Jarred’s 4th year at the helm. We have a new Sydney Shield coach this season with Ross Mignacca taking the reins.

Our agreement with Wests Tigers will continue with Ryde Eastwood being the sole pathway club. This pathway means that players will go between this two clubs throughout the season, as they have done over the past few seasons. The works extremely well and gives our local players every opportunity to progress in their Rugby League journey.

Our Under 18’s, Under 20’s and Open Age A Grade teams will commence pre-season training at the end of January. With the pathway getting stronger and stronger each year between us and the 4 junior clubs within our area (Holy Cross Rhino’s, Dundas

Shamrocks, Carlingford Cougars and North Ryde Hawks) we can’t wait to see all the local players once again playing for Ryde Eastwood Hawks.

We have retained all of our sponsors from 2023 which is very much appreciated.

Hopefully we will see you at one of our games this season.

Ryde Eastwood District Rugby League Football Club

SYDNEY FC FOUNDATION PARTNERSHIP

Sydney FC Foundation have been able to impact over 700 people through our schools, community and matchday experiences since August 2023. This comes with support from organisations such as Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club, who have been great supporters of Sydney FC Foundation and the initiatives

being run. This comes from programs such as the Tuesday afternoon sessions at Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club, Giant Steps and our ‘Train like a footballer’ program which have supported by Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club. The support and assistance is greatly appreciated and we look forward to continuing the partnership moving forward.

COMMUNITY

2023 Wrap Up

$13,000 raised for Children’s Medical Research Institute in 2023 late last year we had a visit from Penny Horsfield, Head of Corporate Partnerships at the Children’s Medical Research Institute to present her with a cheque for $13,343. This was the amount raised in 2023 through a number of programs throughout the year, including:

• Jeans for Jeans Day

• Our annual Ryde Eastwood Leagues Fun Run

• Staff Donations, and much more

Penny was absolutely delighted and overwhelmed for the generosity of Ryde Eastwood pictured with our Human Resources Manager, Jo Luke.

We would also like to give our members a big thankyou for supporting us with these worthy causes throughout the year.

2023 Fun Run/Walk

On Sunday 22 October 2023 we held our sixth annual Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club Fun Run/Walk. This event really does get bigger and better each year. Participants elected to either run or walk 5km, 10km or volunteer and all registrations will be donated to Children’s Medical Research Institute plus a generous donation from the Board.

UPDATE

Supporting Grassroots Rugby League

In 2023 Ryde Eastwood Leagues have continued to support our Grassroots Rugby League teams. This is very much part of our constitution and history and allows young kids (0-14 years) to be able to play sport and develop within our region. One of these teams is the Balmain Junior Rugby League Football Club who we have a long-standing relationship with. Their goal is to have as many males and females involved in the sport. Our support covers insurance for all participants and allows the clubs within the district to keep fees at an affordable level. This support also allows the Junior League to utilise funds in other areas such as development programs, recruitment strategies and volunteer education.

FISHING CLUB

Bad weather forced us to cancel the November outing. The 3rd December started off with a perfect day, smooth seas and low wind with a one meter swell. We fished off Bondi where the skipper had fished the day before with good results. Our first drift brought up 18 Morwongs and after that the tangles started, at least 100. Caused by strong currents in different directions. The total catch was 153 fish at 72 kgs.

• Nic Ceh had the biggest bag at 8.3kg and got the coverted R.E.L.C wine. He also fished past 9am.

• Les Mikolajczyk got the R.E.L.C wine by draw as there was no stand out big fish.

The overall results for the year with 8 trips and 3 cancellations was 438.5kg of fish being caught. The biggest bag of the year winner was Sam Sunder 44.6kg And the biggest fish a 2.35kg Trag being caught by Steve Kwon.

The fishing club organises monthly deepsea charter boats fishing trips on the first Sunday of most months. Any interested club member should contact Sam Sundar on 0413 000 303 or attend the monthly fishing club meeting on the third Thursday of every month at 8pm except in December.
