WEEKLY SAFETY REFOCUS: ELECTRICAL HAZARD- OVERHEAD POWER LINES
The purpose of this weekly refocus is to make sure that all RGM employees are aware of the poten�al hazards and their possible consequences when working close to electrical power lines. It is also the inten�on that affected employees who must conduct work ac�vi�es near electrical power lines adhere to all below men�oned preven�ve measures & correc�ve ac�ons to minimize harm to employees; property damage & produc�on loss.
10 Foot (3 meter) clearance rule applies to all RGM employees, visitors, supervised contractors, contractors and suppliers who for any reason need to work close to a power line.
Failure and Equipment in contact with overhead power lines
If the contact was only momentary, it is s�ll important to report this to the u�lity so they can check the wire, especially if arcing was observed. A weakened wire could break later (with increased wind or small amount of freezing rain) crea�ng an unexpected hazard.
If the wire remains in contact with the equipment: Stay on the equipment
The key is to avoid becoming part of the current path. In most situa�ons the current path is between the power line, the metal part of the equipment and the ground. Avoid touching any metal objects. Keep gloves on. Any added insula�on that may reduce possible current flow is a help.
Warn others to stay away 20 meters
Even if the power seems to have stopped, it could come on again without warning. The earth near the equipment
can contain harmful voltages. The equipment and anything in contact with the equipment should not be touched.
Call the local u�lity. (Mill Control # 204505/8100599) Get someone to call the local electrical u�lity or departmentfor you. These are the only people with the equipment and exper�se to help you out of your current situa�on. They will disconnect the power and be able to confirm that it is disconnected. They will advise you when it is safe to disembark.
In case of fire, jump clear! (Step poten�al)
It may be necessary to jump out of the equipment to avoid the hazards of a fire. Jump clear of the equipment and land with both feet together, then shuffle away from the equipment. Poten�al (voltage) differences can develop in the soil surrounding the machine. Shuffling ensures that the voltage difference between your feet is kept to a minimum. Jumping clear of the equipment ensures that you are not in contact with the equipment and the earth at the same �me. Do not climb down. Do not walk or run.

Het doel van deze weekly refocus is om ervoor te zorgen dat alle werknemers van RGM zich bewust zijn van de mogelijke gevaren en de mogelijke gevolgen bij het werken in de buurt van elektriciteitskabels. Het is ook de bedoeling dat betrokken werknemers die werkzaamheden moeten uitvoeren in de buurt van deze lijnen alle onderstaande preven�eve maatregelen en corrigerende ac�es naleven om schade aan werknemers, materiële schade en produc�everlies tot een minimum te beperken.
De regel van 3 meter vrije ruimte geldt voor alle werknemers, bezoekers, supervised contractors, non supervised contractors en leveranciers van RGM die om welke reden dan ook in de buurt van een hoogspanningslijn moeten werken.
Falen en Apparatuur in contact met bovengrondse hoogspanningslijnen
Als het contact slechts kortstondig was, is het nog steeds belangrijk om dit te melden aan de Mill Electrical afdeling zodat zij de kabel kunnen controleren, vooral als er lichtbogen zijn waargenomen. Een verzwakte draad kan later breken (bij meer wind of een kleine hoeveelheid regen) waardoor een onverwacht gevaar ontstaat.
Als de kabel in contact blijft met het equipement: Blijf op het equipment. Het belangrijkste is om te voorkomen dat u deel gaat uitmaken van het stroompad. In de meeste situaties bevindt het stroompad zich tussen de elektriciteitskabel, het metalen deel van het equipment en de grond. Raak geen metalen voorwerpen aan. Houd uw handschoenen aan. Alle extra isolatie die de mogelijke stroomdoorgang kan verminderen, helpt.
Waarschuw anderen om op 20 meter afstand te blijven.
Zelfs als de stroom lijkt te zijn gestopt, kan deze zonder waarschuwing weer inschakelen. De aarde in
de buurt van de apparatuur kan schadelijke spanningen bevatten. Raak de apparatuur en alles wat ermee in contact komt niet aan.
Maak contact met Mill Electrical Dept. (Mill Control #204505/8100599)
Laat iemand de Mill voor je bellen. Dit zijn de enige mensen met de apparatuur en expertise om je uit je huidige situatie te helpen. Zij zullen de stroom uitschakelen en kunnen bevestigen dat deze is uitgeschakeld. Zij zullen je adviseren wanneer het veilig is om van het equipment te gaan.
In geval van brand, spring eruit! (Stap potentieel) Het kan nodig zijn om uit het equipment te springen om de gevaren van brand te vermijden. Spring uit het equipment, land met beide voeten tegen elkaar en schuifel vervolgens weg van het toestel. Je voeten moeten in contact blijven met de grond. In de grond rond de machine kunnen spanningsverschillen ontstaan. Door te schuifelen wordt het spanningsverschil tussen uw voeten tot een minimum beperkt. Als je van het apparaat afspringt, zorg je ervoor dat je niet tegelijkertijd in contact bent met het apparaat en de aarde. Klim niet naar beneden. Niet lopen of rennen.
