Tesmonials 20 Years Commercial Producon
Tesmonials from employees telling what impression the day March 11, 2004, made on them.
On this day Rosebel Gold Mines officially went into Commercial Producon.
Satnarain Jaggi Senior Database Technician
From March 11, 2004 I remember that we were very curious and excited to see how a Mine, in this case a gold mine went into producon in Suriname. It meant a prosperous future for us as employees but also for Suriname. We also had a guarantee of a wellpaid job.
It was rewarding and sasfying to see that aer a period of sacrifice and hard work during Exploraon and Construcon that I also got to be a part of.
RGM has completely changed my life already from exploraon through to aer construcon and also aer going into producon of the mines. Both my social and financial economic life. I was able to save some money, had the opportunity to buy a plot of land and build a house on it.
I have always worked in the Geology department first as Grade control in the very beginning of producon but aer a Year I was allowed to work in the office as Data Technician unl today.
I’m concern if we all ( both employer and employee ) are fully commied as it was in the period from 2004 to 2020. There was then an unprecedented drive to be 100 percent commied, and the opportunies were also created for a healthy and challenging work environment. There was a piece of job security.
Iremember when President Ronald Veneaan and Vice President Jules Ajodhia were invited. I thought it was funny that both gentlemen had been asked to li a block of gold. They had a very hard me liing the block. Ajodhia struggled very much and Venean's legs began to tremble. The block was very heavy.
I was completely impressed by the unfamiliarity of the industry. I didn't know there was so much gold. But when I witnessed the opening it has stayed with me.
RGM has affected my life in a posive way. I have improved economically. We are here to build our life. Everybody wants to climb up the social ladder and it's prey good luck for me. If you have a plan when you start working somewhere, work on it. Once I stop working I have to be beer off than when I just started.
I started at the Commissary as a Commissary Aendant. When I joined I did so through an open applicaon. I then applied to the Warehouse.
It can only get beer if you look at the prospects. There is gold in abundance so things can only get beer. However, I hope the employees can also enjoy that wealth.
That day was just a normal work day, the Warehouse was sll at Old Camp at that me while the New Warehouse was sll being finished. We would also be moving to our New Warehouse not long aer that so we were busy with preparaons. I can't remember now if there was a ceremony on that day but if I'm not mistaken we had our first gold bar at the Mill. This gold bar also gave me a belief that there really is gold to be found here so more assurance to keep working here. I haven't even seen a gold bar like this and aer 20 years of working here, what I did see were the Haul Trucks and Shovels.
It was a whole new experience to see the first 5130 shovel before it went into operaon in person, because you don't see these big machines in town just driving or working, I really had seen it for the first me that me.
I came to work in RGM as a contractor within the Warehouse dept. and on December 3, 2003 I joined the company permanently as a Junior Warehouseman. Since then, the company also offered me some security within the organizaon. Did my job properly and also kept to the company's standards and values.
I do see a good future for Rosebel Gold Mines and with the arrival of Zijin Mining. I believe there should be some improvement, which should be the goal. I have no ambion to look for another job yet, I will connue to work here as long as God gives me the strength.

Suradj Mohan Mine Engineering Superintendent
Iwas working at that me at the Warehouse which was then located at Old Camp. I remember that the government delegaon aended the site on March 11, 2004.
That day was a normal working day for me at Old Camp.
RGM had a significant impact on my life in various ways. Starng from March 11, RGM boosted my confidence and ensured the security of my job.
I then held the posion of Issue Counter to Warehouse.
I think that RGM will bring more development to Nieuw Lombe.
March 11, 2004 was a normal working day for me, although there were and number of dignitaries from the Government and Cambior here to witness the fesvies. During the daily "morning meeng," final instrucons were given by the Mine Manager to the General Foreman, Senior Engineer and Superintendents. Everyone was in a celebratory mood and at the same me focused on the fesvies.
The daily mine and Mill feed planning of a 24/7 operaon made a special impression on me as a "young engineer" during that period.
RGM influenced my life from day 1 when I was here. I was introduced to a very different work culture than what we were generally used to in Suriname at that me. We had set deadlines that we had to meet daily, weekly and monthly. To meet the deadlines you had to work not only hard, but also smart. We also learned then to always take "wastes" out of our processes and thereby connuously opmize the processes. I took these behavioral paerns with me and sll apply them to my professional and private life.
I was then a Junior Mine Engineer and worked at Mine Engineering.
Our most recent Life of Mine plan indicates that we will connue to produce for about 10 more years, so for many young employees a good starng point to make a career at RGM. If we look at what's happening lately, Zijin is working on improving our mining equipment and also plans to increase exploraon efforts. I expect that in the future Zijin will connue to invest in our mining fleet, in the Mill, exploraon and human-capital in order to further opmize and increase RGM's gold producon and "Life of Mine."
Ican sll remember that on March 11, 2004, I was only on permanent employment, and strongly movated to also be part of the producon process within the company.
The fact that I could build myself up, and had the opportunity to develop myself within the company during that period, impressed me a lot. My life has been posively influenced by having the opportunity to achieve my goals from that period.
During that period I worked at mine operaons, as a Haul Truck Operator.
Because I am now at mine Operaons as Mine Trainer, I can make an important contribuon, to share my experience with the operators and future operators, so that the work is done in a safe, efficient, and producve way, and I can also upgrade myself to a higher level through training and self-study.

Women’s Day 2024 at RGM #Inspire
Inclusion
In the RGM organizaon, tradionally considered a male-dominated environment, we are proud to have over 200 women acvely contribung to our mining operaons on a daily basis. As we celebrate
“FInternaonal Women’s Day this year, we took the opportunity to speak with some of our colleagues working in our mines, to share their experience in light of this year’s theme: "Inspire Inclusion."
rom a young age, I dreamed of driving a haul truck. My mother told me then that it was only for men, but I pursued my dream anyway. Before working at Rosebel, I drove 12-wheeler mber trucks, so I already had experience operang heavy equipment. However, I learned a lot through my work at Rosebel. I always feel included in the group. The night shi can be challenging at mes, but the men in the team encourage me to be tough. Working with the men here at Rosebel is enjoyable and pleasant.”
IWD message to RGM-Women: “Chase your dreams and keep pushing forward.”
“Istarted at Rosebel as a Haul truck driver and did so for 12 years. However, due to a leg injury, I had to switch to operang an Excavator. Heavy equipment operaon wasn’t always my dream; in fact, I wanted to be a midwife when I was younger. But today, I can confidently say that I’m doing work that I enjoy, and I’m well compensated for it. Working in a male-dominated environment isn’t always easy,
but I can hold my own. I adapt, and I’ve been able to take advantage of the opportunies provided by this inclusive work environment.”
IWD message to RGM-Women: “Don’t give up; you’re here for a purpose, so keep that in mind. You must have determinaon, be willing to learn, love your job, and enjoy the fun moments.”
“This work is quite fun and interesng. You have to have some guts and be well focused. I like working at night best because it’s a lile more relaxed. At the Mine Operaons department where I am, they do have an inclusive approach; the gentlemen are always very helpful, and they are happy to teach you how to do your job beer. I really feel
like a princess among them.”
IWD message to RGM-Women: “If you want to work, just seize the opportunies in front of you. If you don’t try something you won’t know if you can actually do it. Dare to do.”
“Iinially began my career working with heavy equipment at another company, operang 10-wheeler trucks and excavators. However, once I laid eyes on a haul truck in real life, I couldn’t resist the urge to give it a try. It’s been an exhilarang journey thus far—a mix of challenge and occasional danger. Somemes the truck can sway unexpectedly, especially in rainy condions, posing risks. Yet, a midst the dangers, I thrive on the excitement it brings. For me, inclusivity means creang a workplace where everyone

feels comfortable, regardless of their ethnicity or gender. At Rosebel, this is exactly what I’ve experienced. Despite being short in stature, I’ve been given the opportunity to operate three different types of trucks. It’s a testament to their commitment to providing fair opportunies to all employees.”
IWD message to RGM-Women: “Never underesmate yourself. Whatever tasks men can accomplish, we are equally capable of doing. If you convince yourself otherwise, you’ll remain stagnant. Always
IWD message to RGM-Women: “Remember to always stay true to yourself and have clear goals in mind. Connuously invesng in self-improvement will undoubtedly enhance your skills in the workplace, and maintaining a friendly demeanor will go a long way in fostering posive relaonships.”

Barge Rescue Operaon was successful
No one noced anything. But it was a close call, or the Mill would have been out of operaon for several days. Thanks to the hard work behind the scenes, everything is going smoothly. The barge, which houses the pumps supplying water to the Mill, was parally submerged due to a leakage. Acon had to be taken quickly. If the machines were to take in water, it would spell disaster not only for the Mill but also for our company. The cause? "One of the pumps was leaking water, causing water to connuously enter," explains Mitchell Vrede, Mill Operaons Trainer. During a daily inspecon, it was already evident that something was amiss with the barge. The crusher supervisor immediately reported this. From March 3rd to 6th, there was a concerted effort to keep the barge afloat.
This rescue operaon was crucial, Mitchell further explains. "The water we use for the Mill mainly comes from the reclaim pond. Without water, we would have to shut down the Mill. If the barge sank further, we would also lose the machines. That would be an even greater loss."
"It was all hands on deck," Mitchell says. Thanks to the dedicaon of colleagues from Mill Maintenance, Mill Electrical, Surface Support, and Mill Operaons, this work was completed. The first step was to remove excess water from all parts of the barge. Aer that, the pumps were checked to ensure they were sll fully funconal.
According to Mitchell, the work faced some challenges, such as the absence of a crane. But the teams ulmately managed to rescue the barge.
