NickerieBussesvolunteers wasestablishedinJanuary 2022.HanoemanKanaya(5th fromleft)MineTrainerwas officiallyappointedasthefirst memberonJanuary26.Hewas allowedtostartwork immediatelyafterthe installationandprovidedthe attendeeswithmasks.
DuringtheCOVID-19 pandemic,eatingin lunchroomswasnotallowed. OnFebruary25,2022,this decisionwasreversed.From thenon,anyonewasallowedto consumetheirmealinthe lunchrooms.Thereturntothe newnormalwasthereby initiated.

OnMarch30,2022,Safety Stewardswereinstalledfor thefirsttimeinthehistoryof RosebelGoldMines.Thejobof thesevolunteersistomakethe workplacesafer.Theyaregiven theauthoritytostopunsafe workimmediately.Inthesame month,theIAMLOCAL campaignwaslaunched.

OnThursday,July28,2022, IAMGOLD/RosebelGold MinesN.V.,togetherwiththe KirpalaniFoundationandthe AcademicHospitalParamaribo (AZP),inauguratedthefirsteye hospitalinSuriname.Bruno Lemelin,SeniorVicePresident Operations&Projectsof IAMGOLDconsidereditan honourtobepartofthis historicmomentforSuriname.



TheMineMaintenance departmentreached anotherLTA-freemilestoneon August17,2022.The departmentrecordedastatus of3yearsLTA-free.According totheMineMaintenance leadership,thisistheresultof promotingasafetyculture amongemployees.Mine Maintenanceiswellonitsway toa4-yearLTA-freestatus.
OnSeptember14,2022,the 25selectedLocalSummer jobbersreceivedtheir certificates.Thescholars/ studentsspentamonthgaining knowledgeandexperienceat variousdepartmentsofRosebel GoldMines.

Youdon'thavetobelieve us.Thesurvey,heldunder theJubileeswhohave attendedtheevent, revealedthat95%ofthejubilees ratedtheeventas(very)Good! Butweaskedmore!Themost favorablesurveyresponses includedFood&Beveragewith 84%andorganizationoftheevent with94%positive.Further,as manyas98%ofthejubileesrated Roeli'sEventCenterasverygood.






TheJubileeCelebrationof2022


wasextraspecialbecausethiswas thelasttimeitwasorganized undertheIAMGOLDbanner.The JubileeOrganizationCommittee hadonemission;makeit memorable.Theyexecutedand delivered!Apartfromtheusual Jubileeawardceremony,there werealsoperformancesby Waifolo,aMaroongroupthat stagessong,danceanddrama. Oneofourownemployees,Ulrich "FayaShule"Fonkel,alongwith hisliveband,alsoconveyedhis wonderfulsingingskillstothe

audienceinattendance.Afterhis performance,itwastimefora raffle.Two50-inchTVswere raffledandfourluckywinnerswon ticketstotheBrunaBoyconcertin Suriname.Theywerehappyfaces. Theeveningendedwitha performancebyNaksKaseko Loco.Totheirtunes,therewasa lotofdancingandsinging.

NieuwKoffiekampmustbecomeoneofthe mostmodernvillagesinBrokopondo.The villagemustbeself-sufficientand contributetothedevelopmentofthe entiredistrict.ThisisClermovanderKamp'svision forthefuture,whichisslowlybeginningtotake shape.Ajack-of-all-tradeswhocreates employmentforthevillagers,modernizesthe village,andwantstoworktowardsustainability.

Step1:FromUkemmantoSmall-ScaleMiner Severalyearsback,in2015tobeexact,Clermowas alsoamongoneofthemanySmallScaleMiners(SSM) whowereminingforgoldonRosebelGoldMines' concessionwithoutpermission."Wekeptgetting removed.Intime,togetherwiththeMakamboa,I beganprotesting.Afterawhile,wereachedan agreementwithRGMtomineindesignatedareas."In 2019,ClermoseparatedfromMakamboa,foundedhis owncompanyKAMPMining,andreceivedpermission tomineintheRomaEastPit.



Step2:FromSSMtosmallbusinessowner ShortlyafterClermoreceivedpermissiontomine,he investedinabusandbegantransporting schoolchildren."Iboughtanotherbusnotlongafter andfoundedKampTransportN.V.,"hesays.Soon after,thecompanysecuredacontractfromGrassalco totransporttheirstafftoRoyalHill.In2020,adeal wasreachedwithPowaChinyN.V.ofwhichhehas beentheManagingDirectorsinceJune1,2022.This buscompanyisnowresponsiblefortransportationof villagerstoandfromRGMandpassengertransport withinRGMsite.Meanwhile,Clermoalreadyhada servicestationandastoreinNieuwKoffiekamp.

Step3:Fromsmalltomedium-sizedentrepreneur ThingsweregoingwellforClermo.Afterthemining deal,bussingdeal,andservicestation,itwastimeto addresstheaccommodationsaswell."I,therefore, builtapartmentstoaccommodatepeople,including RGMemployees,"hesays.Today,therearejustunder 300peopleworkingfortheKAMPcompanies."I neverexpectedtogrowsofast.Iamverygratefulto

RGMforthetrusttheyplacedinme.ThankstoRGM, Iamnowself-sufficient.Thathastobesaid."

Special-statusanimalspecies observedduringtheESIAforthe projectedTSF-3expansionarea

TheBlue-cheeked Amazon(Blue-cheeked Parrot)wasobservedin thefutureTailing StorageFacility(TSF-3)area duringthelatest EnvironmentalandSocial ImpactAssessment(ESIA) study.Thisbirdspecieshas "NearThreatened"(NT) statusaccordingtotheIUCN RedList.However,notonly thistropicalbirdhasbeen seen,butalsootherprotected andmanysought-after speciesoccur.Allthisis containedintheESIAstudy onbirdsandlargemammals donebySeranoRamcharan andGisèleNederbiel, EnvironmentalSpecialists.


TheprojectedTSF-3areais locatedtothewestofthe currentexistingTSFandis beingreadiedtoreceivewaste
materialsfromtheMilldueto theextensionoftheminelife. Beforethathappens,itis requiredbylawtoassessthe effectsthattheconstruction andoperationofthetailings lakewillhaveonlocallypresent habitats.Seranowasmainly concernedwithmappingbird species,whileGisèle investigatedwhichlarge terrestrialandarboreal mammalsoccurinthearea.
Atotalnumberoftwenty-four mammalspecieswere observed.Theseincludedboth landandtreemammals. Cameratrapswereusedduring thesurveyandotherevidence ofmammalpresencewas collectedthroughanimaltracks, scratchmarks,sounds,and sightings,"saysGisèle.Ofthis number,thirteenanimalsare qualifiedas"speciesof

conservationconcern".That meanstheyareplacedina certaincategoryinternationally whenitcomestoexport regulationand/orconservation status.Accordingtothe EnvironmentalSpecialist,these speciesareindemand."Wealso lookedifthereareanimalsthat areprotectedbylaw.Ten mammalspeciesnotprotected bylawwereobserved.These animalsfallunderthehunting gameandtheyappearonthe huntingcalendar.Therestare protected."



WhereGisèlemapped mammals,Seranodidsofor birds."Imappedthemthrough whatIsawandorheard," explainstheEnvironmental Specialist.Onehundredseventy speciesofbirdswerefound.He comparedhisfindingswiththat ofa2014reportandfoundthat hedidnotseeelevenspecies. "AlthoughIdidnotseethem,I expecttheydooccurinthe area,"Seranosays.
Duringthissurvey,the environmentalspecialistscame acrosstheBlue-cheeked Amazon.Amongthebirds,24 specieswerefoundtobe soughtafterforexport. Furthermore,44speciesofbirds wereobserved,whicharesold locallyorofinteresttohunters.
TheTSF-3willundoubtedly haveanimpactonthenatural habitatoftheobservedanimals. Gisèleexplainsthatthisareais alreadydisturbedbecauseof logging,roadconstruction, deforestation,andthecreation oflakesatthehandsofthe

smallscaleminerscurrently activeincertainpartsofthe area.Withtheconstruction andoperationofTSF3,there willbealocalreductionin availablehabitat,aswellas permanentlossofviable, naturalhabitatforbothland andtreemammals.Forbirds, theareawillalwaysbelost, Seranosays.

Thereareseveralwaysto compensateforthisloss.Trees canbeplantedinmined-out orabandonedareasonthe minesite,treesthatgrew therebeforewillattractbirds. Anotherproposalisto compensateforhabitatlossat theminesiteatanother location,suchasthe BrownsbergNaturePark.The animalswith"statusof conservationconcern" observedduringtheESIAare allfoundintheBrownsberg NaturePark.Supportingthe conservationprogramofthe Brownsberg,contributestothe conservationandprotectionof thesespecies,albeitina differentlocation.

"Thedepartmentwasestablished sometimearound2004/2005. Beforethat,contractorsdidthe SSwork.Wefallunderthe GeneralServicedivision.The baseofSSislocatedatWater Treatmentbehindthekitchen. Ouradministrativeofficeis acrossfromtheCarpenterShop neartheLaydown.”
