Sheffield Park and Garden Sheffield Park garden has been formed through centuries of landscape design with influences of Capability Brown and Humphrey Repton. At the heart of the garden there are four lakes, with paths circulating through the glades and wooden areas surrounding them. Autumn is a great time to visit Sheffield Park and we hope to see the spectacle of colours provided by the trees at this time of the year. The Coach House tea-room serves a selection of hot and cold drinks and food and there will be time to purchase lunch here before we take an afternoon drive through the Ashdown Forest on our journey home.

A Perfect Wedding – at The Mill at Sonning Includes 2-course lunch

Imagine – A bridegroom wakes in the bridal suite on his wedding morning, with his bride to be about to arrive at any moment, and finds in bed beside him – a naked girl. What’s more an extremely attractive naked girl whom, in the depths of his post stag night hangover, he can’t remotely remember having been introduced to. Imagine also that during the ensuing panic to get the stranger dressed, the bride arrives and the girl is trapped in the bathroom. Imagine further that the only way out of the dilemma is to persuade the best man to pretend that the hidden girl is his girlfriend but that his real girlfriend is to be kept ignorant of the fact! By the time the bride’s parents and half the hotel staff get in on the act the chaos reaches nuclear proportions. This hilarious play moves at the speed of light with a riot a minute that will leave you aching with laughter. The perfect medicine for all those thinking of getting married.

Eltham Palace

The original Palace can be traced back to the 14th Century, when it was used as a royal residence until the 16th Century. The present house was built in the 1930’s, by Stephen Courtauld (a member of the famous textile family), but incorporates elements of the original medieval building, particularly the Great Hall, into the design. Internally large parts of the new house were built in an Art Deco style, including many of the bedrooms which reflect the ‘Cunard style’ made popular by the fashionable cruise liners of the time. Perhaps the most exotic room is Virginia Courtauld’s vaulted Art Deco bathroom, lined with gold mosaic and onyx, complete with gold-plated bath taps and a statue of the goddess Psyche. There is an onsite cafe offering a range of food and drink. On our return journey we shall stop at Polhill Garden Centre where there will be time to purchase tea.

You will be able to walk under the wings of this iconic aircraft, admire its engineering brilliance and step aboard this impressive aircraft, which regularly whisked the rich and famous across the Atlantic at twice the speed of sound for over 25 years. Bletchley Park

Bletchley Park was the main location for this country’s code-breaking establishment during World War II and from 1938 was the home of the Government’s Code and Cypher School. Today the site is home to a fascinating heritage attraction telling the story of how boffins such as Alan Turing broke the codes created by German Enigma machines and are credited with saving many thousands of lives and shortening the war by up to two years. There is a range of hot and cold food available in the Hut 4 cafe. Admission to the neighbouring National Museum of Computing is at an additional cost, payable locally (currently £7.50 and £5.00 for seniors).

The Postal Museum including Mail Rail

£34.50 Adult

NEW

This new museum, located in the former Royal Mail Mount Pleasant Depot, tells the story of our postal service. Discover a host of objects such as post boxes, uniforms, greeting cards and stamps. Read letters sent from thousands of miles away with Writing Home, a collection of post sent home by soldiers in conflict, survivors of human trafficking, or those who left in search of a better life across the globe. Included in your visit is a trip on Mail Rail – the Post Office’s exclusive underground railway originally used to move London’s mail between 6 sorting offices and 2 mainline railway stations 70 feet beneath the busy streets. The carriages are very small, having been adapted from the original rolling stock and run through tunnels only 7 feet in diameter and are therefore not suitable for people uncomfortable in enclosed spaces. At the time of going to press the museum were unable to confirm the precise date of our visit – we will confirm this at the time of booking.

In all 26,300 carved pieces were assembled like a giant jigsaw puzzle in less than 3 years. There is a permanent exhibition which provides an insight into the wisdom and values of Hinduism. A vegetarian buffet lunch, including dessert, has been organised in the Shayana Restaurant, which is located by the temple. No alcohol is allowed in the restaurant. Henry is the smartest and sharpest playwright of his generation. His wife Charlotte, an actress, has been appearing in a play by Henry about a couple whose marriage is on the verge of collapse. Max, her leading man, is also married to an actress, Annie. When Henry’s affair with Annie threatens to destroy his own marriage, he realises life has started imitating art. But are they really in love? Is it the real thing? This witty and touching play, written by Tom Stoppard, stars Laurence Fox, probably best known for playing DS James Hathaway in TV’s Lewis. Seats at the theatre will be in the Stalls and there will be time prior to the 2.30pm performance to find lunch in Guildford.

Elvis on Tour – The Exhibition

NEW

at The O2

It is 40 years since the death of Elvis Presley and this exhibition, at The O2, displays more than 200 artifacts from Graceland – many of which will be in the UK for the first time. This new exhibition covering the years 1969 – 1977 will provide an in-depth look at the world that was Elvis on Tour, offering a unique insight into exactly what drove the audiences wild in the ’70’s – the chance to see the King in concert as he toured America. Bringing together dozens of examples of Elvis’ costumes and stage wear along with the guitars, jewellery, posters and – for the first time – unique interviews with Elvis’ touring band, Elvis on Tour The Exhibition will take fans into a world where millions of people watched the greatest live rock and roll shows ever staged, which at one point was televised to over one billion people worldwide. Providing an insight into what went on backstage, the planes, the clothes and of course the music, Elvis on Tour The Exhibition will bring fans as close as possible to the experience of seeing the King live for themselves. There are a number of restaurants in the O2 in which to purchase lunch.

Experience steel being turned into body shells by robots and then see how various components come together to produce a gleaming new car. Please note that this is a walking tour of approximately 2 hours in length and is unsuitable for people with walking difficulties. We strongly recommend wearing comfortable closed walking shoes. St. Paul’s Cathedral

One of London’s most iconic landmarks, St. Paul’s occupies a site overlooking the City of London that has had a Cathedral since 604AD. The current building, the fourth to occupy this site, was designed and built by Sir Christopher Wren and built between 1675 and 1710 after its predecessor was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666. Your visit includes one of the Cathedral’s own easy to use multimedia guides, which contain a wealth of information. There is a refectory in The Crypt, serving a selection of hot dishes, open sandwiches and salads. Alternatively there are many cafes, restaurants and pubs in the immediate vicinity of the Cathedral. Due to the nature of the building many of the galleries are accessed by steep stone staircases making them unsuitable for people with mobility problems, however for those unable to make the climb, the Multimedia guides provide virtual tours.

Set in early 19th-century France, it is the story of Jean Valjean, a French peasant, and his quest for redemption after serving nineteen years in jail for having stolen a loaf of bread for his sister’s starving child. Valjean decides to break his parole and start his life anew after a kindly bishop inspires him by a tremendous act of mercy, but he is relentlessly tracked down by a police inspector named Javert. Along the way, Valjean and a slew of characters are swept into a revolutionary period in France, where a group of young idealists make their last stand at a street barricade. Coronations & Celebrations

Kings, queens, statesmen and soldiers. Poets, priests, heroes and villains. Westminster Abbey is a living pageant of British history. The Abbey has been the coronation church since 1066, has seen the weddings of sixteen Kings & Queens, is the final resting place of seventeen monarchs and contains memorials to some of our greatest citizens. Situated on the grounds of a former Benedictine monastery, it was refounded as the Collegiate Church of St. Peter in Westminster by Queen Elizabeth I in 1560. In 1987 Westminster Abbey, St. Margaret’s Church, and the Houses of Parliament were collectively designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. We meet our Blue Badge Guide for the day at The Central Methodist Hall, where there will be time to purchase coffee. The day will be split into two – half of which your guide will take you on an in depth tour of the Abbey and will take you from the Shrine of Edward the Confessor and the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior to Poets Corner and the sublimely beautiful fan vaulted ceiling of the Henry VIII chapel where the banners of the Knights and Dames Grand Cross of The Most Honourable Order of the Bath hang. During the other half of the day you’ll be free to visit St. Margaret’s Westminster established by the Benedictine Monks alongside their Abbey to look after the spiritual needs of the people. Today it serves as the Parish Church of Parliament. Eastbourne in Spring

Eastbourne is a firm favourite with Roadmark customers. The town still has an air of elegance about it – its gracious buildings, avenues and hotels owe their creation to the 7th Duke of Devonshire who designed the resort in 1834. The long esplanade overlooks colourful gardens and there are plenty of places to sit and relax. As well as the seaside the town has a good range of shops.

The house is set in six acres of grounds and the River Dudwell runs through the southern part, on which is the recently restored Park Watermill.
