Sixty-two years of marriage weren’t enough for Lyle Kelley and his wife, Nedra.

They wanted more time. Time to travel. Time to visit their seven grandchildren.

Time to celebrate holidays with their family.

But when Lyle’s prostate cancer worsened and spread to his bones, time was just the thing they didn’t have. They turned to Ridgeview Hospice to make the months Lyle had left not only comfortable, but special.

“I can’t say enough about the care Lyle received. Everyone was reassuring, respectful and caring,” says Nedra. “The care he was given was beyond our imagination.”

Lyle had spent his life dedicated to helping other people. He worked as a teacher and superintendent at a juvenile home and later as a psychologist. His impact on kids was significant. Nedra remembers him getting many thank-you letters from students who had turned their lives around thanks to his help.

Hospice was there to help the Kelley family when Lyle’s condition deteriorated.

Lyle’s caregiver even helped him create a special memory book for his family.

This keepsake book contains pictures, mementos and remembrances from his life. It serves as a beautiful reminder of a life well lived and is something the family cherishes.

Toward the very end, the hospice worker also helped Lyle craft a farewell statement to his family. A faithful man, Lyle shared his convictions and closed with “I will be looking for you in heaven.” And that is exactly the hope they hold on to.

Until my husband, Lyle, neared the end of his life, I didn’t fully understand the importance of hospice. I learned very quickly it is vital.

Not only did hospice staff help my husband face his last days free from pain and discomfort, but they helped him live it to the fullest. They provided our family with the opportunity to make memories and, when the time came, say our final goodbyes.
