Every week, premature babies are saved, elderly patients comforted, bones mended, illnesses diagnosed and lives saved—thanks in part to the generous philanthropy of individuals and corporations in our caring communities. Imagine if area families and loved ones didn’t have the facilities, technology or skilled doctors to turn to at Ridgeview Medical Center.

Philanthropy makes a difference. The Center for Women & Children, Ridgeview Heart Center and Marie Doug Stasek Steiner Kelting Hospice Home are amazing examples— all largely supported through philanthropy. Without these significant facilities, we couldn’t enhance the lives of those entering our world or those leaving it.

Live Auction Agreement 1. Bid numbers will NOT be used this year. To bid, simply raise your hand high for the auctioneer to see. By bidding in the live auction, you agree to be bound by the terms of this auction agreement.

2. The auctioneer reserves the right to add or withdraw items to or from the auction without notice.

3. A bid acknowledged by the auctioneer is a legal contract to purchase the item if the bid is the final, winning bid. If you bid on an item and win it, you agree to pay for the item won, in full, by the end of the evening.

4. All purchases are final and there are no refunds. Further, no exchanges or substitutions are allowed unless the description of an item expressly provides for one. No refunds will be allowed on travel packages for cancelled tickets or accommodations.

5. Unless the description of an item expressly provides otherwise, all vacations and services must be claimed and used within one year of the auction date, and all vacation accommodations must be mutually agreed upon with the donor.

6. All items are sold “as is.� Ridgeview Foundation disclaims all express and implied warranties including, but not limited to, warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. If you purchase an item, you waive all claims for damages and liability against Ridgeview Foundation, Ridgeview Medical Center and the donor of the item, that arise or may arise, in whole or part, from the utilization of the property or services you purchased.

7. You are responsible for locating and removing your purchases from the auction premises before the end of the evening. If you purchase a service or other nontangible item and the certificate for the item is not available at the auction, it will be mailed to you within one week of the auction.

8. Ridgeview Foundation will automatically charge your credit card unless otherwise directed by the winning bidder. Winning bidders who have registered their credit cards at registration will have their credit cards billed for their auction totals at the end of the evening.

9. Payments are tax-deductible as a charitable contribution only to the extent provided by law. Generally, you may deduct as a charitable contribution the amount you pay above the fair market value of the item purchased. Please consult your tax professional.

Silent Auction: Electronic Bidding HOW TO BID Bidding is fun and simple! When you are ready to place a bid, simply enter the bidder number that is located on your name badge to log in to a tablet or a kiosk.

Once you are logged in, you can place a bid for the minimum amount required or you can place a maximum bid (see Bidding Strategy below). Once your bid has been placed, you will immediately be notified on the device if you are the winning bidder or if you have been outbid by another bidder’s maximum bid.

BIDDING STRATEGY You have the opportunity to bid two different ways. You can bid the traditional way by increasing the bid by the minimum amount, or you can set a maximum bid.

When you place a maximum bid, the system bids for you against other bidders until your maximum bid is reached. Once your maximum bid has been exceeded, you are no longer bidding on that item until you place a new bid. This option is ideal for guests who’d like to place a single bid on an item and not worry about checking back to see if they are still the top bidder.

BIDDING LOCATIONS There are three locations where you can place a bid.

1) Bidsheet Tablets These tablets are located in front of each item in the silent auction area and replace the traditional paper bidsheet.

2) Bidding Kiosks At several locations in the tent there are bidding kiosks. At a kiosk, a bidder will be able to check the status of all their bids, increase their bids if they’ve been outbid, browse the entire auction catalog and place new bids, or make a donation.

3) SmartBid Smartphone (see next page) Guests are able to register their personal smartphones and use them to browse, shop and receive updates from the auction, all without having to download an app!

Either locate an auction kiosk in the silent auction area or visit the Guest Services table in the registration area.

2) Log into the kiosk using your bidder number and tap the smartphone sign-up button on the left side of the screen.

3) Follow the on-screen instructions and provide your smartphone number where indicated.

FOUNDER’S SOCIETY Ridgeview Foundation established the Founder’s Society in 2002 to recognize Ridgeview Medical Center’s most generous donors. This distinguished group of benefactors helps to enhance the health and well-being of the people in 34

Founder’s Society members make individual commitments of $10,000 or greater, which can be paid at one time or through a payment program over a period of years.

PHYSICIAN PHILANTHROPY COUNCIL The Physician Philanthropy Council works diligently to maximize the power of grateful patient philanthropy and is an essential part in guiding Ridgeview’s Grateful Patient Program. This program provides patients with an opportunity to show gratitude to the physician, nurse or other caregiver who played a special role in their care by sharing their story or making a donation in honor of their caregiver.

Why is this important to Ridgeview? A gift in honor of a caregiver not only recognizes the exemplary work of Ridgeview’s physicians, nurses and other staff, but it helps enhance the outstanding level of care the community has come to expect from Ridgeview Medical Center. Contributions help Ridgeview provide the highest-quality care in the region by attracting exceptional physicians, investing in state-of-the-art equipment, partnering with innovative businesses and so much more.

The Physician Philanthropy Council members also serve as champions and role models to other Ridgeview Medical Center and affiliated physicians and are essential in establishing philanthropy as a central principle of the Ridgeview mission.

RIDGEVIEW FRIENDS & FAMILY Ridgeview Friends & Family, Ridgeview Foundation’s largest giving club, combines community members and employees in a collaborative effort to support Ridgeview Medical Center. Compassionate care: ‘It’s what we do here’ Ridgeview has a long history of being recognized for providing the highest quality of care … and for doing so with kindness, compassion and intuition to every patient and family member, even in the most unexpected situations.

Ann McKinnon lives in North Carolina, so when she received a call from Ridgeview in November 2014 saying her 65-year-old dad, Doug, was at the hospital after being found driving erratically in Norwood Young America, she was more than concerned.

Not only was she living far away in North Carolina, but her dad was the sole caregiver for her developmentally disabled and handicapped brother, Steven. She had no other family in Minnesota to comfort her brother while her dad was being treated at Ridgeview for vascular dementia and multiple strokes.

When Doug arrived via Ridgeview Ambulance with Steven, the Emergency Department staff assessed the situation. They quickly determined that Steven should not be separated from his dad. They realized the best support for Doug, as he received inpatient care, was to reassure him that his son Steven was right alongside him, just like he always was.

One of Doug’s nurses, Beth Stender, RN, CICU, explains: “We typically don’t have two patients in a room, but Doug and Steven needed each other. We just had to make it work.”

While his physicians and nurses took care of Doug, Beth helped Steven feel comfortable and settle into a chair right next to his dad’s bedside. She also had his clothes laundered and found DVDs for him to watch. The nursing team continued to watch over Steven, and spent time helping him relax with movies and be less anxious so he would eat and rest.

Miles away, Ann says this compassionate care was such a comfort to her. “It was difficult being so far away, but the doctors and nurses helped me navigate this situation. It was a blessing knowing they were both being cared for so well.”

Ann was so appreciative that she wrote an email to Robert Stevens, Ridgeview president and CEO, before Thanksgiving. She wanted to express her thanks to everyone who went above and beyond for her family, and to tell them how much it meant to her.

She did not expect to hear back from Ridgeview nor its CEO, but did so almost immediately. She summed up his response: “That’s what we do here.”

“Giving to Ridgeview can create more experiences like mine.

You are supporting folks who, like my dad, didn’t have resources to pay for medical care.

And it makes sure Ridgeview is here for your family, too.”

On a recent trip back to Minnesota, Ann had the opportunity to personally thank the Ridgeview nurses and staff who cared for her dad and brother.

Ann urges others to support the work done at Ridgeview. “Giving to Ridgeview can create more experiences like mine. You are supporting folks who, like my dad, didn’t have resources to pay for medical care. And it makes sure Ridgeview is here for your family, too.”

Ridgeview opens new Wound & Hyperbaric Healing Center INCLUDES TWO HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY CHAMBERS More than 8 million people in the U.S. suffer from chronic wounds of which healing has been impeded by such diseases and conditions as diabetes, obesity, aging and the late effects of radiation therapy.

Ridgeview has partnered with Healogics, Inc. to bring expanded wound healing services—including two, state-of-the-art hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers— to the growing number of patients and area residents who are suffering from chronic or complex wounds. Through its new Wound & Hyperbaric Healing Center—located in the hospital building on Ridgeview’s Waconia campus— patients in the southwest metro can now receive advanced wound treatment without traveling far from home or work.

People who are likely to benefit from Ridgeview’s comprehensive Wound Center services and clinical expertise include those suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections, and radiation injuries to soft tissue and bone, or those with compromised skin grafts or wounds that haven’t healed within 30 days.

These types of wounds can be debilitating, painful and lower a patient’s quality of life.

“We are pleased to expand our wound care services and bring improved local access to nationally recognized, best-practice wound care protocols to our patients and communities,” said Mike Phelps, chief operating officer, Ridgeview Medical Center. “The addition of two hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers—in Waconia—is especially exciting for patients who previously had to travel up to 30 miles or more to receive these services.

“Ridgeview also greatly appreciates the philanthropic support of the Waconia Rotary, which generously donated $5,000 to help fund the purchase of our hyperbaric chambers,” Phelps added. “We are grateful for the Rotary’s continued support of our commitment to providing the best care, technology and patient experience.”

HOW HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY IMPROVES HEALING During hyperbaric therapy, patients are surrounded by and breathe pure oxygen at increased atmospheric pressure.

Patients with chronic wounds and specific injuries are treated within a hyperbaric chamber for 90 to 120 minutes per day, five days per week, for up to 40 days.

This promotes wound healing by stimulating small blood vessel growth, promoting new skin growth, fighting infection and more.

Ridgeview’s Wound & Hyperbaric Healing Center is part of the Healogics national network of academic medical centers, hospitals and thousands of professionals committed to advancing wound healing by creating, sharing, and activating wound prevention and care expertise.
