The Regina Report

This year, the juniors of the Class of 2024 had an exciting morning. As juniors, they get to pick out and design their own Regina based ring. On Sunday, The 16th of October, the girls went to Mass and got their rings blessed by Fr. Stephen Pullis. Afterward, they had a catered breakfast and the cafeteria was decorated by the Sophomore Mom Representatives in the Mothers Guild. Ms. Mary Jo was a big help in organizing everything to ensure the Juniors had the best ceremony and breakfast.
The girls had a blast taking pictures with their family and friends with their rings. These rings they got, will be treasured forever by the girls, and they wear them throughout the rest of their high school journey.
October was Breast Cancer Awareness month, and the Regina Student Council and Connect4Cancer club partnered to raise awareness and funds for those fighting the disease. After months of team efforts and planning; on Saturday, October 29th, the 5K for Breast Cancer was a smash hit at River Bends Park in Shelby Township. Nearly forty members of the Regina Student Council were out bright and early to help set up for the event with pink themed decorations and breast cancer posters. As runners arrived at the event they were greeted by the smiling faces of Regina students and offered custom 5K for Breast Cancer t shirts as well as donuts, cider, and water bottles from various sponsors. At 10:30 AM the whistle blew, and the race began; Regina students were sure to cheer all of the runners on as they took off. As the race came to an end, those who ran or walked the 5K were greeted by an inflatable archway with their running times posted on a digital clock, but from there the excitement only continued. Connect4Cancer sold an abundance of pink baked goods to runners; including cupcakes, pretzels, brownies, cookies, and more As the morning of running for a cause came to an end, the Regina community came together and took pictures to commemorate the event. Student Council will be donating the funds raised from the 5K to the Young Survival Coalition (YSC), a nonprofit organization that works to serve youth affected by breast cancer both nationally and internationally. The first ever Student Council 5K for Breast Cancer was undoubtedly a success, and Regina students loved serving their community in order to fight for breast cancer awareness, a cause so near and dear to our female student body.
Regina's Student Council put on their first Trunk- orTreat! The cars were decorated by different clubs in Regina. These cars included: Saddle Shop, National Honors Society, and Nature Club. The members of these clubs tended these cars and passed out candy to Trunk-or-Treaters!

Spooky season is an exhilarating time for Regina. Each year on Halloween, the individual classes vote on what costume they think is worth winning in their own grades, and from there the nominees will get a chance to go on stage and present their costumes to the school. Each nominee gets announced by grade, and whoever gets the most people to applaud for them wins the title of the best costume and a gift card. From minions to smurfs, and a shocking amount of Step Brothers lookalikes, you never knew what you were going to see when you turned the corner to your next class.
It was not easy, but four victorious winners were chosen. Freshman, Macey Sherry won the crowd over with her Crayola crayon box costume and described her win as "the happiest moment of her young life." Sophomore victor Amanda Vushaj used her injury to her advantage and came as Dance Moms star, Abby Lee Miller. This exquisite opportunity left her with a smiling face while rolling through the halls for the remainder of the day Junior champion, Maria Artley came ready to win in her minion costume and wanted to dedicate her win to the support from her friends who gave standing ovations while she was up on stage. Last, but not least, Senior class winner Ella Jenkins stole the win with her festive Grinch costume She says she took this role to her “small grinch heart,” and explained that she was forced to be void of feelings on the matter due to her costume.
The teachers were most definitely not forgotten in all the fun It was a tough decision and everyone fought to win, especially runner up Mrs. Bruce who came sporting a road bump sign on her new baby bump with a yellow construction hat atop her head. All things considered, there was a clear winner by the end of the competition, Mr Sabo in his Buzz Lightyear suit, and although the costume was spectacular, what sealed the deal was the words he spoke into the microphone, “To infinity and beyond!”
Although some were dejected because they didn’t get a chance to fight for the title of best costume this year, several students are already planning their revenge costumes in hopes to win our annual costume contest next school year!
After the retirement of the legendary Mr. Forys, there were some big shoes left to fill in Regina’s theology department. Ms. Boersen quickly rose to the task, already becoming a student favorite at Regina, winning teacher of the month in September. Ms. Boersen has created a safe space in her classroom, and she works hard to ensure that all of her students have the opportunity to ask questions in hopes that we will fully understand the depths of our faith. Originally from Canada, Ms. Boersen was a missionary in Mexico, Venezuela, Spain, and the United States for thirteen years. In Venezuela, she taught elementary school students religion completely in Spanish, which inspired her to teach full time in the States. From her time as a missionary, she came to appreciate many unique cultures and learned to value the true universal church. Also, not only is Ms. Boersen highly qualified in religious studies and Spanish, but she also has fantastic taste in music, proven by her chapel playlist.
Outside of teaching at Regina, Ms. Boersen also teaches night classes to undergraduate students at the seminary. Because she feels so passionately that faith is the truth, teaching felt like a natural way for her to share this. In her free time, she enjoys exercising, watching Netflix, spending time with friends, and FaceTiming her long distance family members. Although Ms. Boersen cannot travel as much as she would like to, she has been to Rome five times!
God
If Ms. Boersen could ensure every student takes away one main thing from her classes, she would want us to know that “God sent His only Son to die for us because He loves us that much,” which is why John 3:16 is one of her many favorite Bible verses. She also advises her students to “Live each day as if it were your first, your only, or your last.” We are so excited for Ms. Boersen to be a part of the Regina community!

One of our beloved math teachers, Mrs. Bruce, announced the biggest news to her classes on the week of October 10, 2022… she was having a baby! As the weeks went on from finding out the big news, it was finally time to announce the gender.
On the morning of October 31, 2022, our student council president, Katie Regnerus announced that baby Bruce is…. A BOY! Congratulations to Mrs. Bruce and her family. We cannot wait to see the many photos of baby Mason, in the upcoming 2023 24 school year!

One anonymous senior said, “It was really nice to see the coaches again, but it was really boring. I ended up leaving pretty early.” This sentiment seems to have been shared among the team, as the party was basically over before halftime. It was a fun time, but the participants thought it would have been better if the video’s introduction was skipped and the celebration went straight into the game.
