The Regina Report

Every month the Regina Reporters have put a spotlight on a new teacher at Regina High School. For the final issue of the Regina Report, English teacher, Ms. Sankiewicz is the center of our piece. Ms. Sankiewicz is the newest teacher within the English program, teaching regular, honors, and Advanced Placement classes for the freshman and junior classes.
Why did you want to teach at Regina? I love the Regina community because it is so close knit and friendly. I have had an amazing experience being here; learning the traditions and getting to be part of the community. Especially during Powerpuff which is my favorite tradition I've gotten to learn about.
What do you like to do outside of school?
I really enjoy shopping with my sister and my niece. I keep myself active by coaching dance or relaxing by spending time with my cat Kiwi Marie.
What are you most looking forward to this summer?
I am so excited for my wedding! We are taking our honeymoon in Disney World and it's going to be incredible!
The whole Regina community would like to thank Ms. Sankiewicz for her part in making this school year memorable, her continued passion for Regina, and we wish her all the best this summer.
The Saddle Shop is a student- led store run by moderator Mrs.Perrino, President Sabrina Kirokoza (junior), and co- vice Presidents Olivia Kulla and Avery Wouters (sophomores). These girls work tirelessly in order to effectively and efficiently organize the shop. Thye recently just got a new shipment for all of your Regina Needs. This new shipment is the perfect way to kickstart your new year at Regina. The Saddle Shop doesn’t only have merch for students, but also for parents and faculty, and staff. Below are Pictures of their new Merch made just for you. The Saddle Shop employees make sure that everyone gets the merchandise that they need. They communicate with the student body to hear their thoughts and ideas about new merchandise. Here is a word from Vice President Olivia Kulla, “ Hurry up and come down to the saddle shop where all of your Regina needs can be met. Come soon before our spring merchandise is gone. ”
In the past nine months, the Regina Reporters team has published the monthly Regina Report on the activities of Regina High School students, staff, and the wider community. The Regina Reporters is our school’s first newspaper in over forty years, a task that we took seriously. Sophomore, Sofia Switalski first brought the idea of the Regina Reporters to English teacher, Mr. Totten and Advancement Manager, Ms. Weick. With all their collective hard work the Report amassed nearly thirty members, from across all grade levels. Each member has written their own articles and brought their unique writing style and experiences to every edition of the Regina Report. Together the Report team has brainstormed for content such as student surveys, club highlights, teacher interviews, student poetry spotlights, and more. Our team spent a great deal of time working with one another and meticulously proof editing our articles so that they were perfect for the eyes of the entire Regina community. Every digital Regina Report spread was filled to the brim with student submitted photos that our team felt best mirrored our articles and the daily life of a Regina student. As a newer group, it has been amazing to see the overwhelming positive feedback from the readers of our articles. Our group’s success would not have been possible without the receptiveness of our current students, staff, and alumni. The team is so grateful for our moderators Mr. Totten and Ms. Weick for their continued knowledge and support for every article we constructed. Going forward, the Regina Reporters are anticipating the upcoming school year, in which we will ensure that Regina remains up to date with all of the thrilling aspects of life here at Regina High School.
A new school year brings new leaders! Let’s see who stepped up to the challenge, starting with Regina’s National Honors Society Executive Board. Aubrianna Scott will take on the role of the President with Ella Widows by her side as Vice President Audrey Schena, Secretary, and Keely Hudson, Treasurer, will keep things organized and efficient throughout the year. We know these young ladies will do a fantastic job, and have great things coming for Regina!
Now onto the club that keeps our school running, Student Council!
Starting off strong, Gianna Switalski will be the President with Athena Rosati as Vice President. We know these two will work together efficiently to achieve an impressive school year. Ella Sikorski will be the Corresponding Secretary, Grace Pannicia will serve as Treasurer, and Sofia Switalski will be Recording Secretary. This promising group of girls has already shown initiative and we can’t wait to see what they bring to the school next year!
As we say goodbye to the class of 2023, it’s important to remember some of the special moments from their high school experience. Seniors Parker Kern and Brooke Bobowski have shared a few of the memories with their classmates that they hold close to their hearts. Parker fondly remembers sitting in Mr. Dasin’s classroom watching the cinematic masterpiece, Forrest Gump, which could make a grown man cry- and it did! As Mr. Perry walked in on a particularly glum scene, tears were brought to his eyes. Brooke’s most impactful memories from Regina come in the later years of high school with Powderpuff. She will never forget the practices, improvement, dancing in the halls leading up to the game, and of course the 6-peat! We will miss all the seniors so much and cannot wait to see how they use the experience and memories they’ve formed at Regina in the future!
Good afternoon everyone. For those of you who don’t know me, which are very few, my name is Sydney Desjardine, treasurer of the graduating class of 2023. A lot of people spend their opportunities speaking at graduation events talking about themselves. And if you know me, I could do that for hours. But I'm not going to do that today. Today, I am going to talk about you. The friends, sisters, and fellow seniors sitting here today.
Over the past four years, we have got to watch each other grow up. From different hair colors, to different friend groups, we have all changed immensely - even if you didn’t notice. Growing up tends to be scary. We’ve all experienced our fears one way or another. But the only way to overcome them is to face them. This is the same with challenges. Even if it isn’t a test, everyday for the rest of your lives you are going to be faced with challenges. Applying for jobs, buying a house, or working through a relationship. The ideals and lessons we have learned over the past four years will follow us for the rest of our lives. Life is a journey, and it will get hard. Nobody ever said it was going to be easy. But every time you’ve been faced with a challenge - a math test, a sport tryout, a job application - you have overcome it and persevered. So sure, things will get hard, but you need to remind yourself that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
You have to take the time to ask yourself. How can I become the best person I can be? For each and every one of you, this will look different. But the choices you make now, will write the story of your life. Your life outside of saddle shoes and 5 minute passing time. Outside of talks in the library with Mr. Manteuffel, or conversations with Mrs. Perrino about how many lates you have because you stopped to get Dunkin before school. Even Lekki’s dogs or Mittens the bunny won’t be able to follow you in your future. But they won’t disappear. From the endless laughs at your lunch table, to the friendships you made in detention, the memories of Regina will always be there. And if you ever think you forgot them, Regina will always be here for you to remember. For you to speak on career day, or maybe even apply for a job. The memories, friendships, ideals, and lessons will follow you for a lifetime. And even when life gets hard, which at times it will, you’ll always have a place to call home. A place with friends. A place with sisters. A place with a family.
Now I do have to mention myself for a second, because I just have to say I cannot begin to explain how much every single person in front of me has completely changed my life. From Sydney being my super amazing almost best friend (don’t worry Zoe, I watched my language), to Alex teaching me what carpe diem meant every single day of freshman year, everyone one of you has had an impact on my life, that I will remember forever. And I just want to say to the people who have been right next to me on the tightrope that is high school - Sydney, Jamieson, Kate, Lizzie, Tatianna, Zoe, Toni, Savannah, and Sophia - thank you for never letting me give up on my goals, no matter how much I wanted to. I love you all so much more than you could ever imagine. I believe in you, and you should too. Now I would like to quote one of the most influential men of our time. As Mr. Worldwide once said, “This is for everybody going through tough times, believe me, been there done that. But everyday above ground is a great day, remember that”. Congratulations sisters in the graduating class of 2023!
