GRATITUDE

REPORT 2022-2023

MISSION Regina High School is a Catholic college preparatory school in the Franciscan tradition of peace, service, and respect for the unique dignity of each person. Regina is committed to academic excellence, nurturing and guidance, and the moral, intellectual, physical, and personal growth of young women who face the challenges of today’s world.

My Dearest Friends of our Regina Family, We are excited to announce that we have changed the name of Annual Report to Gratitude Report. One of the most powerful emotions one can exhibit is gratitude. If we can find ways to be thankful and grateful throughout our life, we will find the power and emotional strength to walk through some of life’s hardest seasons. One of the things scripture teaches us through Psalms is that there is always something to be grateful for. The words of Lord Jesus: “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” Acts of the Apostles 20:35. Regina’s financial position is strong due to your generous contributions though treasure, time, and talent. Thank you!Enrollment is at the highest level in over twelve years. Our school leadership, the Board of Directors, our advancement department, and our finance team work together to ensure the prudent stewardship of Regina High School. Your donation this year has helped us to secure eleven full scholarships to eleven deserving students, upgrade our classrooms with the latest technology, increase our financial assistance, install air conditioning in the gymnasium, and initiate state-ofthe-art athletic turf field efforts. Our emphasis in the upcoming year is continue with facility improvements, focusing on arts and athletics. Building upon our solid traditions and foundation, Regina looks forward to the future. We are grateful to supporters, as you help us live out our mission. We are confident that Regina will continue to use its blessings to form exceptional young women, as they learn to discover and share their God-given talents. Thank you for sharing yours with us to continue this important mission. We have a fantastic family of astonishing students, involved and sincere families, dedicated faculty and staff, philanthropic donors, and generous community partners. I feel incredibly lucky to be part of Regina’s beautiful mission and vision. I am proud beyond measure of our students and love seeing how far they go beyond high school with help from a solid foundation set by their Regina experience. Thank you again for your gifts to our school; you answer our prayers. With Gratitude and Saddlelite Blessings,

A FANTASTIC YEAR OF FINE ARTS The many artists at Regina had a sensational year both on the stage and in the studio. The Regina Players put on two successful shows, Mamma Mia in the fall and A My Name Is Alice in the spring. Their spring show was adjudicated as part of the Sutton Foster Awards for the second year. Juniors Giselle Bourbeau and Aubrianna Scott were selected to participate in the awards, where over 120 local students competed. In the studio, students utilized multiple mediums to create beautiful works of art this year. Their pieces have become staples in the hallways where students, staff, and visitors can see their beautiful creations. Many works are featured more widely in the community. The Regina Christmas card artwork was designed by Solenne Orlando-Lauria ’22, and many students had pieces displayed in local galleries this year.

34 junior and senior art students received a grant from the DIA to attend the VanGogh in America exhibit

LEARNING Outside THE CLASSROOM At Regina, we pride ourselves on providing a college preparatory education to all students. But some of the most valuable learning experiences can happen outside the classroom. Our students have two opportunities through Regina to get real work experience while still students. Through the Digital Lakes Internship program, students had the unique opportunity to participate in three (3) one-month-long paid internships at three (3) companies. Students experienced what types of IT/digital/tech projects are happening at various companies and industries. Companies included are GM, HAP, Recaro, Vectorworks, Magna, Delta Dental, and Cummins. The Beaumont Hospital Grosse Pointe co-op program trains students as tech aides to assist hospital staff with patient care. Beaumont staff’s hands-on training enables students to perform various procedures, including obtaining vital signs, assisting with feeding and comfort care, helping mobilize patients, and participating in nurse staff huddles. Featured on the next two pages are student reflections from both experiences.

Things went great at Recaro! I gave a 15 minute presentation to the COO and VP on Thursday and they seemed very pleased, I got some really good feedback. I start at GM tomorrow. I’m really loving this program so far, I’m learning a ton!

Chase Ruczynski '23

I've learned that a heightened sense of empathy is the key difference between good patient care and excellent patient care. Is your patient unable to speak/move well, perhaps due to a stroke? Check on them more often than you're used to because they can't call for help. Did you go into a patient's room just for vitals, but it turns out their brief is soiled? YOU wouldn't want to be stuck sitting in that all day, so don't put off changing them when the timing is more convenient. Do you spot a call light for a patient that isn't yours? Unless you have an urgent task, check on that patient anyway. They're already sick and/or aching; don't prolong their misery just because you're not in the mood to help. The little things can truly make the biggest difference in your patients' experience at the hospital.

Jaden Amparo '23 Empathy has been a huge virtue in my life. It dictates how I act towards others and the important steps I take in my everyday life. However, when working in a hospital, this virtue dictates EVERYTHING one does. For a patient, one has to be able to understand how they are feeling, to help them better. When talking to coworkers, one has to understand that we are all busy and dealing with many things, therefore have patience.

THE YEAR OF SADDLELITE ACCOLADES The 2022-2023 school year was busy for our Saddlelites! From new endeavors, returning clubs, and a few Regina classics bringing home some recent awards, it was an excellent year for Regina Clubs!

Mock Trial

In the club's inaugural year, our Mock Trial team advanced to states in Lansing! Our all-girl team was the first of its kind and blew the judges away at Macomb County's Courthouse. They were only one of ten teams to compete at the state level.

Forensics

Brought back as a club by alumna Julie Cash Sharp '76, the Forensic Team engages in public speaking, competing against other Catholic schools in the Metro Detroit area. Competing in multiple competitions over the year, they received top ribbons at each one! Aubriana Scott '24, Audrey Schena '24, and Madison Ezell '27 went to the National Competition in Louisville, Kentucky.

Student Council This year Student Council, headed to the MASC/MAHS Michigan Student Leadership State conference in Grand Rapids and came home with three awards! Regina High School was the only Catholic school nominated, winning in every category, taking home the most accolades EVER in a year! We also received the highest award at this conference, the Star School Award!

Saddlebots It was a year of change for our Saddlebots, Team #7188, who went from a veteran team the year before, to being comprised of only three freshmen for the ‘22-’23 academic year. The Saddlebots finished 28th out of 42 teams at their first robotics tournament! Due to their highly consistent individual robot scoring, the SaddleBots were selected to compete for the championship round in an alliance. The team is currently ranked number 241 out of 480 teams in the state.

I have so many parts of Regina that I would like to support . . . There’s Eleonore Ellero, whose music and drama program makes Regina stand out among its peers. There’s Coach Laffey . . . Mary Jo Czarnecki, who always managed to bring a smile to my girls’ faces no matter what mood they were in. And there’s the counseling center, especially Amy Dulgerian, who provided so much comfort and support to my girls throughout their high school career and who was so helpful and patient as they worked through the college application and admission process. As Detroiters, we would also like to help more of our neighbors enjoy a high - quality education while bringing much needed diversity to campus.

Dear Regina, You have had such a beautiful and powerful impact on my family’s life - first through the wonderful years of my daughter, Beatrice (Tepel) Wolnerman, Class of 2010 - and secondly, for hosting my granddaughter’s, Cossette Wolnerman’s, Baptism in the Regina Chapel on July 22, 2023. So many blessing. I am most sincerely grateful.

Please find enclosed a donation . . . in memory of Sisters Mary Leanne and Mary Hyacinth (SSJ-TOSF), and in recognition of their 100 combined years of service to Regina High School. I wish continued blessings for the Regina family. May the leadership examples set by these two servants continue to resonate within the community for decades to come. “Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.” Hebrews 13:7

We are so incredibly thankful for all the support Regina has shown us over the past 3 years! I am so thankful for how much my daughter loves her school and how much her school loves her! Sending her here was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made!

Dear Regina High School Community,

In addition to our thriving arts programs, our commitment to athletics is unwavering. Through sports, our students learn valuable life lessons such as discipline, perseverance, and the importance of teamwork. Our teams have excelled both on and off the field, thanks in part to the support we receive from parents, alumnae, and friends like you. This year, our Arts and Athletics Initiative aims to achieve several crucial goals:

2. Program Expansion: We strive to broaden our program offerings to meet the diverse interests of our students. Your support will enable us to introduce new opportunities and experiences in the arts and athletics.

3. Equipment and Materials: Upgrading our equipment and providing the necessary materials for our students is essential to their success. Your contributions will ensure our students have the the tools they need to excel.

We invite you to make a difference in the lives of our students by contributing to our Annual Fund. Your tax-deductible donation will directly impact our young women's educational and personal development, shaping them into well-rounded individuals who will positively impact our world. Here are some ways you can support our cause: One-Time Donation: Your one-time gift of any amount will provide support for our numerous programs. Monthly Pledge: Consider making a recurring monthly donation to provide sustained support throughout the year. Matching Gifts: Many employers offer matching gift programs, doubling the impact of your donation. Check with your employer to see if they participate.
