Esta edición llega en un momento difícil para nuestra comunidad. El devastador tornado que azotó St. Louis a finales de mayo ha dejado una marca profunda: hogares destruidos, familias desplazadas, comunidades enteras transformadas por la fuerza implacable de la naturaleza. Las imágenes hablan por sí solas, pero detrás de cada fotografía hay historias humanas de pérdida, resistencia y solidaridad. La portada de este número,“Cómo recibir y brindar ayuda”, no solo busca documentar la tragedia, sino también servir como puente entre quienes necesitan apoyo y quienes están dispuestos a ofrecerlo. Encontrarás información clave sobre los recursos disponibles, desde albergues temporales hasta fondos federales de emergencia ya aprobados para acelerar la recuperación. NG highlights a well-known truism:

China is not only developing rapidly but has also dramatically reduced poverty, lifting 800 million people out of poverty in just a decade. It now holds a clear lead in Artificial Intelligence (AI)— despite biased rankings from U.S.-based indices like Stanford’s, which lean toward commercial interests. One former Pentagon cybersecurity director even resigned over the U.S.’s estimated 20-year military lag in this transformative field (source).
En la etapa de la “trampa de Tucídides” de Graham Allison(https://bit.ly/4mpsJwD)--cuyo reduccionismo ideologizado le obnubiló la realidad circundante----, este politizado autor de Harvard no tomó en cuenta el auge de la IA: al basarse en una extrapolación del siglo 5 a.C. hasta el siglo 21 d.C cuando empieza a despuntar la IA. In this stage of the so-called “Thucydides Trap” popularized by Graham Allison (source), the Harvard-based author made a flawed extrapolation from the 5th century BC to the 21st century, failing to account for the rise of AI.
Vale la pena recordar que Allison extrapoló la guerra entre una potencia emergente
(Atenas) ante la potencia dominante (Esparta). Su ejemplo matricial es pésimo ya que Esparta venció a Atenas---lo cual extrañamente no es citado como se debiera--- y hoy, en prácticamente todos los rubros, menos el militar---lo cual sería muy discutible debido al G-2 entre Rusia y China---,Beijing es la potencia emergente frente a la potencia dominante, hoy en franca decadencia que es EU.
Allison compared the conflict between an emerging power (Athens) and a dominant power (Sparta), but his core example is weak: Sparta defeated Athens—something often ignored. Today, Beijing is the rising power in almost every field except perhaps military, though even that is debatable due to the Russia-China G2 partnership, and the U.S. is the fading hegemon.
Merece una mención el liderazgo de China en robótica y en su empeño en desbancar a EU y a sus aliados de Taiwán y Holanda en el rubro de los semiconductores cuando hasta Financial Times revela por imágenes satelitales “el avance de la línea de producción de chips” de la boicoteada Huawei en Shenzhen con el fin de romper su dependencia de Washington y sus aliados(https://bit.ly/3FcVwDW). China’s leadership in robotics and its determination to overtake the U.S., Taiwan, and the Netherlands in semiconductor production deserves mention. Even the Financial Times has revealed via satellite images the progress of Huawei’s chip production lines in Shenzhen, aiming to break dependence on Washington and its allies (source).
Ya el mirifico ChatGPT fue desbancado en fechas recientes por DeepSeek. Así por el estilo, podemos enumerar varios rubros. Recently, the much-hyped ChatGPT was overtaken by DeepSeek. And that’s just one example among many.
Vale la pena recordar el célebre ranking del think tank ASPI en 64 rubros sobre tecnología de impacto y/o critica, ¡China lleva la delantera en 57(https://bit.ly/4jz5sXo)! Así que el futuro también está escrito ya en el muro.
Let’s not forget the famous ranking by the ASPI think tank, which evaluated 64 critical and emerging technologies: China leads in 57 of them (source). The writing is already on the wall.
Finalmente, más allá de que “en la carrera armamentista en tecnología y talento, China brilla conforme EU retrocede (https:// bit.ly/4kr9Mrv)”,Vvale la pena regresar al reporte de marras de UNIDO que proyecta las “principales mega-tendencias que reconfiguran la industria del futuro” que consideran el incremento de la IA y la digitalización de la producción(que ha triplicado en los recientes 5 años), así como la reconfiguración de las GVC(cadenas globales de valor).
Finally, beyond headlines like “In the tech and talent arms race, China shines as the U.S. retreats” (source), it’s worth revisiting UNIDO’s report, which projects the major megatrends reshaping the industry of the future. These include the growth of AI and the digitalization of production—which has tripled in the last five years—as well as the restructuring of Global Value Chains (GVCs).
Resalta un desafiante dato debido a la IA: “Una extensa brecha tecnológica entre los países desarrollados y los países en vías de desarrollo amenaza a excluir a los más pobres de la presente revolución industrial y del mercado tecnológico proyectado a dispararse de los US$1.5 Millones de Millones (Trillones en anglosajón) en 2020 a US$9.5 Millones de Millones (Trillones en anglosajón) en 2030”.
One startling data point from the AI revolution: “A vast technological gap between developed and developing countries threatens to exclude the poorest from the current industrial revolution and the future tech market, projected to skyrocket from $1.5 trillion in 2020 to $9.5 trillion in 2030.”

ST. LOUIS, MO — The Latino community in St. Louis is mourning the tragic death of Juan Baltazar, owner of the renowned food truck El Mandilón, who lost his life last Friday, May 16, during the severe storms that hit the metropolitan area.
Baltazar, de 48 años, falleció cuando un árbol fue arrancado por el viento y cayó sobre su camión mientras intentaba regresar a casa para ver a sus hijos menores, en el vecindario de Carondelet. El food truck era

His charisma, generosity, and constant support for the community made him a beloved figure.

La violencia es abuso físico o psicológico, y está condenada por ley en cualquier país que cuide a sus niños, viejos y a toda la sociedad. A los niños no hay por qué castigarlos, sino sentarlos cuando hagan algo malo, ponerlos a pensar en lo que hicieron y darles tiempo para meditar.
Violence is physical or psychological abuse, and it is condemned by law in any country that cares for its children, the elderly and society as a whole. Children should not be punished, but sat down when they do something wrong, make them think about what they did and give them time to meditate.

The most common problems with the jaw and teeth are not only caused by stress, but could also be caused by the temporomandibular joint disorder, better known as TMJ, warned Dr. Eduardo Cardona.
“¿Has notado dolor en la mandíbula o dificultad al abrirla? ¿Te levantas con dolor de cabeza, aprietas los dientes mientras duermes o escuchas un pequeño clic en la mandíbula al masticar? ¿Tienes tensión en cuello y hombros? Si te identificas con alguno de estos síntomas, quizás no sea estrés: podría ser trastorno del TMJ”, explicó el Dr. Eduardo Cardona en “Diario de Belleza Podcast”, que presenta junto a Doreen Gutiérrez.
“Have you noticed pain in your jaw or difficulty opening it? Do you wake up with a headache, clench your teeth while you sleep, or hear a small click in your jaw when chewing? Do you have neck and shoulder tension? If you identify with any of these symptoms, it may not be stress: it could be TMJ disorder,” explained Dr. Eduardo Cardona in “Diario de Belleza Podcast”, which he presents with Doreen Gutiérrez.

The expert recalled that TMJ connects the jaw with the skull and is essential for speaking, chewing and swallowing.
“Cuando algo no funciona bien —ya sea por bruxismo, mala postura o tensión muscular—, aparecen síntomas como dolor, ruidos articulares, limitación al abrir la boca e incluso asimetría facial”, dijo.
“When something is not working well – whether due to bruxism, poor posture or muscle tension – symptoms such as pain, joint noises, limitation in opening the mouth and even facial asymmetry appear,” he said.
El Dr. Cardona, profesor de Medicina Estética, insistió en que el tratamiento del TMJ pertenece al espacio del odontólogo y, aunque existe un abordaje integral donde podrían participar otras disciplinas, su tratamiento debe limitarse a quienes han estudiado profundamente su función.

El botox ayuda a reducir la actividad muscular excesiva, aliviando el dolor, mejorando la función y, como beneficio estético secundario, afinando el tercio inferior del rostro”, describió.
“In recent years, the use of neuromodulators (botulinum toxin) in the treatment of TMJ has become popular, especially in muscles such as the masseter, temporalis and pterygoid. Botox helps reduce excessive muscle activity, relieving pain, improving function and, as a secondary aesthetic benefit, refining the lower third of the face,” he described.
Al mismo tiempo avisó que no todos los
pacientes son candidatos, porque aplicar toxina en exceso, o en las áreas equivocadas, puede generar problemas funcionales, como dificultad para masticar o cambios en la sonrisa. Por eso, es fundamental acudir a un especialista entrenado, que evalúe a fondo cada caso.
At the same time, he warned that not all patients are candidates, because applying toxin in excess, or in the wrong areas, can generate functional problems, such as difficulty chewing or changes in the smile. Therefore, it is essential to go to a trained specialist, who thoroughly evaluates each case.

La embarcación, que había estado anclada varios días en Manhattan como parte de una gira de buena voluntad, perdió el control tras una posible falla mecánica en el timón, desviándose por el East River en dirección contraria a su ruta prevista. El impacto con el puente dejó dos tripulantes muertos y más de una docena de heridos, ante la mirada atónita de quienes observaban desde la orilla.
The Mexican Navy’s training ship “Cuauhtémoc” was involved in a tragic accident on Saturday night when it collided with the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. The vessel, which had been anchored for several days in Manhattan as part of a goodwill tour, lost control after a possible mechanical failure in the rudder, veering down the East River in the opposite direction to its intended route. The impact with the bridge left two crew members dead and more than a dozen injured, before the astonished gaze of those watching from the shore.

The figures do not lie. According to a recent LinkedIn study, female representation in leadership positions globally fell to 34.5% in 2024, a worrying decline of four percentage
points from 2022. We are not talking about a simple statistical fluctuation: we are facing a global alarm. One that reveals that, while the world advances technologically, it regresses in terms of equity, inclusion and social justice.

1. Learn CPR and join the Nation of Lifesavers™.
Families can take an online CPR course (website in English), watch a 60-second video to learn Hands-Only CPR for adults (website in English), or watch this video (website in English) to learn how to save an infant or child using CPR with breaths. Travelers can also receive hands-only CPR training in about five minutes while waiting for flights at CPR kiosks (website in English) located in public areas and airports nationwide. 2. Choose a healthy habit for your family to prioritize.
Staying on track with your family’s health goals during the summer can be challenging. Set manageable goals and focus on one area of physical or mental health. The American Heart Association’s Life’s Essential 8™ (website in English) are key measures for improving and maintaining cardiovascular health: eat better, be more active, quit tobacco, get healthy sleep, maintain a healthy weight, control cholesterol, manage blood sugar, and understand blood

schools, community organizations, workplaces, or sports facilities.

About the Artist
Juan Diego Gaucin is a Mexican-American artist who currently teaches painting at Johnson County Community College and Haskell Indian Nations University. Born in Villa Insurgentes, Zacatecas, Mexico, Gaucin emigrated to the United States with his family as a child. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from Pittsburg State University in Kansas, a bachelor's degree in chemistry, and a Master of Fine Arts with honors from the University of Kansas in Lawrence.

In this dizzying controlled demolition of the structures, we used to know, the reality we face is being rapidly reconfigured. Humanity is under a profound and diverse influence: from climate transformations to the constantly evolving economy, from constantly changing politics to the imposition of vaccinations, through pandemics that appear to be orchestrated and constant manipulation through fear. In this context, news of dubious origin and a growing division in society abound. However, there is also an increase in the number of individuals who are awakening to greater consciousness. We are moving from the era of blind belief to the era of knowledge, where research, inquiry, and study are imperative. We cannot uncritically assume everything that is presented to us in this digital age. In this article, I present a selection of news, accompanied by their respective sources or links, in the hope that you, a gentle reader, can form your conclusions and express your opinions.

Comentarios: No juzgo a estas culturas, pero me llama la atención que muchas veces las mujeres de ciertos países, como Arabia Saudita, son vistas como oprimidas desde una perspectiva feminista occidental, mientras que pocas veces se cuestiona la posible opresión que viven muchas mujeres en lugares como Los Ángeles o Miami. My argument is that all women, whether in left-wing or right-wing contexts, face forms of oppression, but there is great hypocrisy in feminist discourse when women from different cultures are criticized without listening to what they themselves say. Many of these Arab women respond that they do not feel oppressed, but comfortable and satisfied with their way of life. Personally, I observe that these women seem to have better physical health than many women in my environment, who are exposed to cosmetic surgeries, cosmetic products with synthetic chemicals, high levels of work stress
and an unhealthy diet. In contrast, women in some Arab cultures use natural products, such as “kohl,” an eyeliner made from ground seeds that has been used for centuries and that even men use to protect themselves from the sun in the desert. This natural makeup adheres so that it appears permanent for a few days, offering an aesthetic benefit without the damaging effects of industrial cosmetics. Therefore, rather than judging lifestyles, I prefer to analyze these differences through the filter of health and wellbeing, and in that sense, I notice advantages in some traditional practices over those that predominate in my own culture.
