French/American accomplished Artist/Musician

Duaiv is an incredibly talented master Cellist and impressionist styled artist. He was born in France, near Bordeaux on July 26th, 1952. Early on in life he met world famous Cellist, Pablo Casals, at the age of 8. At 9 his father got him his first cello. However, since the age of 3 Duaiv had already caught the artistic bug for painting. This created some early challenges where his father initially forbade him from pursuing art as a life pursuit, believing that painting would not be able to provide for his son in the way that being a world class musician could. It is ironic, that although Duaiv’s father was against him being a painter, he was also an early inspiration for Duaiv because his father was a hobby artist and often crafted beautiful pieces of antique styled furniture and created many wooden sculptures in his spare time, and early childhood memories of this are counted as one

of Duaiv’s great inspirations to pursue art. His mother being a famous Opera pianist and singer was of course the motivation for him to become a grand musician. Over the years, in public Duaiv honed his musical talents and eventually earned his seat in the UNESCO Orchestra in Paris; however in private he always pursued his truest passion which was art on canvas.

His music career did ultimately lead to the most important meeting of Duaiv’s life; that was the introduction by a fellow musician to the woman named Magella, whom it turned out was the soulmate that he didn’t even know he was searching for. She was the Prima Ballerina of the Opera and she became the love of his life, his muse, his greatest supporter and one of the defining aspects of the life that is Duaiv. In the art that is Duaiv’s life, Magella became the paint to his canvas. And it was with her, while backpacking across Europe that they made Continues...on page 8

a rash decision to knock on the door of the world renowned artist Salvador Dali, while travelling through his hometown of Portlligat, Catalonia. It was this chance meeting, where this amazing and eccentric artist invited Duaiv and Magella into his home for conversation, and after that Duaiv ultimately decided to make a change to his life and make art his true focus and career. It was here that Duaiv was truly reborn as the artist Duaiv. A fun tidbit is that the name Duaiv is actually his family surname, Viaud, reversed. It was a way to maintain a unique identity and also a way to give a small dig to his father for snubbing his pursuit of art as a career early on in life.

His wood working father, opera performing mother, his lovely wife and soulmate Magella, his chance meeting with Dali are all counted as some of Duaiv’s greatest inspirations to pursue his artistic passion. Other inspirations that lead to his magnificent style were the vistas that he enjoyed watching from the yard of his family’s beach house on the coast of France, the views he took in while backpacking across Europe with Magella and the childhood boat rides that he took with his brother every summer, were clearly inspirations to the landscape and nautical themed paintings that he is so well known for. The impressionist artistic style in which Duaiv paints is something that can be compared to the greatness of Van Gogh, Monet, and Degas. However, there is something very extraordinary that sets Duiav apart and makes his artistic style exceptionally unique, and that is the fact that most of his painting is done directly with his palette knife and not with brushstrokes. There were other painters in history that painted with palette knife like Pissarro, Matisse and Chagall, however, none of them, in my opinion, created works with such beauty and depth as those that Duaiv has created. One of the most amazing things about palette knife painting is the literal and actual depth of the paint applied to the canvas which creates a three-dimensional effect, and shows the true color of the paints.

Red Ink Magazine had the absolute pleasure this past month to travel to Fort Lauderdale, Fl to view in person the studio in Duaiv’s home where the magic truly happens. Magella and Duaiv invited us into their home for a very candid interview and we were able to enjoy the visual spectacle that is Duaiv’s art studio. From the Formula One race car and Racing Motorcycle encased in Acrylic to the models of all the exotic sports cars that Duaiv has custom painted over the years, to the works of art spanning every inch of the studio, including his vast collection of painted instruments; cellos, violins, guitars, and so much more. We were truly in awe. A video that shows the entrance of Red Ink Owner and Publisher Naz Khan entering the studio can be viewed alongside this article, as can a video of Duiav applying paint to canvas on a private commissioned art work that has never been seen before, a true Red Ink Exclusive.

The visit was an honor indeed and we got to see that Duaiv and Magella are as beautiful and warm inside as his artwork is outside to our eyes. The meeting truly warmed our souls and

we hope to have many more such meetings with Duaiv in the future. This man is truly an artistic talent with many recognitions through rewards, honors and gallery appearances around the world . In my opinion, this artist deserves to be featured in the Guggenheim, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art; among others.

Here is just some of the grand recognition that Duaiv has received over the years:

-At the 50th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival in 1997, Duaiv designed and painted the façade of two buses, using the landscape of Cannes and popular film stars as inspiration. These paintings were later exhibited at a museum in Mougins, France.

-In 1998, Duaiv received the Lys D’Or from the Cannes International Carlton in recognition of the artist’s international acclaim.

-In 1998, Duaiv was awarded the Commander of the Order of the Star of Europe, European Foundation Prize by Prince Henrik of Denmark, acknowledging his willingness to mentor young contemporary artists in his home country of France.

-In 2006, Duaiv became a part of the Benezit Directory of top-rated painters. Created in 1911, the directory has become the art collector’s gold standard for information on some of the world’s greatest artists.

-In 2014, he transformed a Lamborghini Aventador Roadster and two Ferraris (a 458 Spider and an FF) into mobile canvases, using the exteriors to exhibit his signature, abstract designs

-The 2015 Coconut Grove Arts Festival in Florida commissioned Duaiv to create the official artwork for the festival.

-Duaiv is in the WHO’S WHO of International Art, which contains the greatest and new names in today’s World of Art.

-Duaiv as a Cellist has performed concerts in Europe, South

America, Tunisia & The United States as part of chamber ensembles and with orchestra as a Solosist and his artwork has been featured in more places than that.

REDINK: You have been featured in many art galleries around the world and you have even had several of your own art galleries around the world, that your daughters managed. Are you currently in any museums of note?

D: Some museums In Europe yes, but not in America yet.

REDINK: So you are not currently in any museums in the United States? Do you have any aspirations to be in like MoMa or The Met or the Guggenheim?

D:MoMa is more modern so you have to be one of the high priced selling artists currently to be there, but of course I want to be introduced to the museums here but I don’t have those contacts yet, hopefully sometime soon.

REDINK: So after reading through some of your Biographies and other interviews that you have done, I know that a lot of your inspiration comes from your childhood and one of the things mentioned several times and a photo was even in your biography of your Teddy Bear “Nounours” What was the name of that bear?

D: It was “Noo Noos” Which is French for “small bear”

REDINK: Does Nounours still exist, do you still have him? My daughter would be very interested to know this, because she has a doll “friend” that she says she will keep forever and I believe her so it would be inspiration for her to know someone famous has kept theirs through adulthood.

D: Yes, He is right here, hold on. {Duaiv proceeds to go into the other room and then returns with Nounours and shows him to us}

REDINK: Boat trips that you took with your brother Francois were a big inspiration to the boat paintings that you paint today?

D: Yes when we were children we built two boats together.

REDINK: Have you ever done a self portrait?

D: I did once, but I did not like how it turned out and For me I really prefer to paint for other people, and myself and my family are not things that other people would want to have, they want paintings of their family

and things important to them.

REDINK: Paintings of yourself and your family, wouldn’t that be a nice legacy to leave for your family?

D: I do not like legacy, I believe in now and do not want to think about when I am a legacy.

REDINK: Do you maintain many of your galleries around the world still?

D: No, I only keep open the galleries in the place that I live and then I close them when I move, because I make all paintings real and they are all originals and I do not like to have paintings made for mass, I do not have enough artwork to furnish many galleries. I do a lot of paintings as commissions and I really like to make things that are requested specific from people, because I know that original work will be what someone really wants to enjoy.

REDINK: What are your interests outside of art and business?

D: I like to travel and see shows, but I love big cities the most, like Monaco and I love to visit places in Italy. I love the hustle and bustle of a city.

REDINK: You have met some of the greatest artists and musicians of our time. You met Salvador Dali and Pablo Casals the cellist… Are there any other contemporary masters that you would like to meet?

D: I already met the best of our time, I met Marcel Mouly as well as Dali, so no at this time there is no one that I would want to meet.

This concludes our interview with DUAIV. Support this talanted & exceptional master Artist of our time Check out his social media website.

LISA MARIE PRESLEY

Only Daughter of Legendary Music Icon Elvis, Died at 54

Lisa Marie Presley was born February 1st, 1968 and was the only child of Legendary Musician Elvis Presley and his wife Priscilla. Her life was tragically lost at the young age of 54 on January 12, 2023. She died in the hospital of cardiac arrest. Her life was plagued with personal and family controversies and tragedies; and it seems her death is no different. Although a fantastic singer and songwriter in her own right, her career and personal life was marred with controversy due to constant relapses into drug addiction, the squandering and mismanagement of her father’s estate and the suicide death of her son in 2020.

The story of Lisa Marie is both fantastic and tragic. She was an incredible songwriter and singer; the nut truly did not fall far from the tree. Unlike most artists today, she prided herself in writing almost all of her own songs and most of her own music and melodies. Her first album in 2003 titled To Whom It May Concern reached number 5 on the billboard 200 charts; the album's first single, "Lights Out", reached Number 18 on the Billboard Hot Adult Top 40 chart and Number 16 on the UK charts. Shortly after her albums success she was teamed up with none other than Pat Benatar in a benefit concert for the VH1 Save the Music Foundation, where she performed the legendary rock song Heartbreaker and later performed the song solo as a treat for her fans at many of her concert performances over the years. In 2005 she released a second album, Now What, which reached number 9 on the charts and in 2012 her third and final album was released titled Storm and Grace.

Unfortunately her personal life was not as grand as her professional life. When her father, Elvis, passed he left everything to his daughter, his father and his grandmother. When his aged father and grandmother passed and when Lisa Marie was 25 years old she inherited his entire estate which at the time was valued at $100 million dollars.

Continues...on page 14

12 RED INK MAGAZINE
13 RED INK MAGAZINE

Continued...from page 12

That estate was mostly properties and the rights to Elvis’s 5 final albums, unfortunately some bad deals made by Elvis’s managers over the years had sold the rights to the majority of her father’s albums royalty free to production companies. So the estate was not a constantly growing entity. Additionally, Lisa Marie after having a troubled childhood which included sexual assault by her stepfather, poor treatment by her mother and a brief but troubled stint in the cult of Scientology she had a lifelong challenge with Opioids and other drugs. She was in and out of rehab for most of her adult life. These challenges coupled with some bad decisions made by her own business manager, which resulted in 85 percent of the rights to her father’s legacy being sold off, and very lavish spending habits the entire fortune was squandered away. And now even in death, her own mothers I battling Lisa Marie’s daughter Riley in court for control of the remaining estate. It is sad how greed can destroy families. However there was some significant light in Lisa Marie’s life as well. Over the years, aside from music, she also inherited her father’s passion for charity and community. The Elvis Presley Charitable Foundation (EPCF) was run by Lisa Marie Presley and through this foundation the Presley Place was created which was an amazing project that provided for homeless families free housing, vocational assistance and job training and placement, for up to a year, even including child care and music instruction for the children of those families. There were also scholarship funds created in the Memphis area for

students going into the arts. Lisa Marie also joined Oprah Winfrey’s Angel Network and during Hurricane Katrina she loaded a full container truck full of groceries, clothing and daily necessity supplies to be distributed directly to victims who were displaced as a result of Hurricane Katrina. She was given humanitarian awards and recognition from the Governor of Tennessee, Bill Haslam, who proclaimed a day of recognition for her charitable efforts on June 24th, 2011 and then two days later she was awarded a Certificate of Proclamation by the mayor of New Orleans, Mitchell J. Landrieu. And then 2 days after that on June 28th,2011 she received a proclamation from the city of Memphis, TN and the mayor of Memphis had this to say. “Lisa Marie Presley is a humanitarian and philanthropist who continues to focus her efforts on the hometown she knows and loves, Memphis. Through her efforts and time she has improved homelessness, literacy, and raised funds for local charities and organizations. She raises awareness for Memphis and continues to set an example of what one person can do when they put their mind to it. Now, Therefore, I, A.C. Wharton, Jr., Mayor of Memphis, Tennessee, do hereby recognize the lifelong service of this illustrious humanitarian and philanthropist.”

Lisa Marie Presley, your struggles are over and I am certain that you will be remembered as a great philanthropist and brilliant musician, the same as your father was. Know that you will be missed and remembered by the fans and all of those lives that you and your charity work have directly touched. Rest in Peace. by Michael

Valarie Iosue (“yo-sway”), 41, was born and raised in Philadelphia. She started dancing at the age of 2- she did tap, jazz, modern, and ballet. Ballet was the style of dance she decided to focus on for most of her childhood. The Philadelphia Children’s Ballet Academy was where she spent several years competing and performing in the Nutcracker. When she was a sophomore in high school, she stopped doing ballet and started kickboxing. After graduating high school in 1999, she lived on campus at Penn State University Berks Campus for her first year of college. Before starting her second year, her mother and brother moved to Colorado, and she decided to temporarily put school on hold. In 2011, she graduated with high honors from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science in Administration of Justice. She started a family with her husband Mark in Collingswood, New Jersey and became a stay-at-home mom. Valarie is the mother of Jaiden (16), Natalia (16), Valentina (10) and Nadia (9). In 2018, Mark was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer. He passed away on April 25, 2019. On May 11, 2019, her friend Sarah passed away. The grief was overwhelming and exhausting. By September of 2019 Valarie knew she needed to start doing something that brought joy into her life. She knew even though it had been 21 years since she danced, she had to go back to ballet. Valarie asked her children’s ballroom teacher, Sandra Fortuna, if she would help her prepare for a Christmas showcase performance dedicated to Mark and Sarah. After the showcase, Valarie started teaching ballet at the studio, Universal Ballroom Dance Center.

FIn March of 2020, the unimaginable happeneda global pandemic. Although the dance studio was closed, Valarie still went to the studio and teach ballet, yoga, and fitness classes to the dancers on Zoom. In 2021, when her children

went back to school after a year of being home for remote learning, Valarie was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. She danced throughout her cancer treatment. After finishing radiation Valarie started modeling. A few days after her last surgery she started a podcast called Dancing in the Rain with Valarie. I am working on a documentary about my life and filming could possibly start this year. I’m also working on a book and always recording episodes for my podcast.

In 2022, Valarie modeled, was a guest on several podcasts, continued working on her own podcast, was the cover story in Collingswood Magazine, was published in numerous fashion magazines, was a ballerina in a rap music video (“Zoe” the artist is Ovi Jozi), walked in several fashion shows including New York Fashion Week and Brooklyn Fashion Week, danced in the opening act for Cosmoda (cosplay runway), was interviewed at New York Comic Con as Wonder Woman, competed in Miss Fashion Global (placed 3rd in her category) and was a main character in a reality tv show pilot about the pageant. Valarie has a lot of exciting projects she’s working on this year. She also continuously spreads awareness about esophageal cancer, breast cancer, sexual assault, and the importance of being CPR certified.

RED INK Magazine had the pleasure of interviewing Valarie Iosue. This is what she told us.

REDINK: Dancing since age 2, tell us what dancing truly means to you.

VI: I started dancing when I was two years old because my grandmother was a dancer and she encouraged me to dance. I grew up watching her perform in shows and we would always dance together at her house. Dancing always made me feel happy and free. I did several types of dance as a kid but I decided to focus on ballet. Ballet is how my soul expresses itself. It’s not just something I like to do, it’s what I need to do. It’s an extremely important part of my life on many levels.

REDINK: How does dancing help you cope with tragedy that you have faced in your life?

VI: I stopped doing ballet in high school and did not do it at all for over 20 years! I missed it and always thought about going back, but as a mom of 4 kids, I thought my dancing days were just a memory. Even though I have always been an active person (yoga, kickboxing, rock climbing), I never thought I would do ballet again. After losing my husband and friend in 2019, I knew I had to find something that made my soul happy. I felt like the grief was trapped in my body and the only way to process it and release it was to dance. In September of 2019, I started ballet again (en pointe)! As soon as I started, I felt like I found a part of me that had been missing. On December 11, 2019 my grandmother passed away from dementia. I danced in a Christmas showcase a few days after she passed. I felt very connected to her during that performance In January of 2020, I started teaching ballet which was an honor and such a blessing. When the pandemic started in March of 2020, the schools and dance studios were closed. I still went to the studio and taught ballet to the dancers on Zoom. Having ballet back in my life definitely helped me get through the pandemic. In March of 2021, when life seemed like it was slowly going back to normal, I was diagnosed with stage 2 invasive ductal carcinoma (breast cancer). I already knew dance would help me physically, mentally, and emotionally get through it. I had a double mastectomy with reconstruction, 24 radiation treatments, had my tubes and ovaries removed, and now I’m taking an estro

gen blocking medication for the next 9 years. A few days after my first surgery, I was dancing at a party at the studio. I had drains on both sides of my body so I wore a big sweatshirt. I felt amazing during radiation and after the second surgery. Throughout my breast cancer treatment, I never stopped dancing. Ballet helps me process trauma and brings me joy at the same time. Tragic events are inevitable but I know dance will always keep me going. The name of my website and podcast (Dancing in the Rain with Valarie) are based on my favorite quote. “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.” (Vivian Greene)

REDINK: What message do you give to the youths of today?

VI: I have two 16 year olds, a 10 year old, and a 9 year old. I teach them the importance of being their authentic selves. My message to youths today is to never compare yourself to anyone. Especially in today’s world with social media constantly showing pictures and videos that portray people as being perfect. Own your individuality, be yourself! Don’t try to fit in! Have your own unique style! You will attract people into your life that appreciate you for who you truly are, not someone you are pretending to be.

More importantly, learn to be unaffected by what people think about you. I didn’t truly grasp this concept until I was an adult, so I talk to my kids about it a lot. Not everyone will like you and that’s ok. As long as you are true to yourself that’s all that matters.

WELCOME TO ICNA-MAC 4TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE, 2003 24 RED INK MAGAZINE

REDINK: Tell us what you are working on at this time.

VI: I am extremely excited for 2023! I have already done several amazing photo shoots this year and I can’t wait to do more. I have fashion shows and dance performances scheduled throughout the year. I am working on a documentary about my life and filming could possibly start this year. I’m also working on a book and always recording episodes for my podcast. My goal is to have as many people as possible hear my story. After someone hears my story, they know that not only can they survive trauma, but thrive!

REDINK: Where do you see yourself in 5 years.

VI: I see myself traveling and doing speaking tours, acting, modeling and dancing.

REDINK: What can we expect from you next.

VI: Expect everything! A book, a documentary, creative photos and choreography… I’m just getting started so stay tuned…

West Coast Rapper Snoop Dogg has released a strawberry-infused GIN called INDOGGO

Calvin “Snoop Dogg” Broadus, simply put, is an icon and legend of Hip Hop. With a career spanning over 25 years, he has released hit after hit, and is an ever-constant presence in pop culture. Snoop has stayed extremely relevant and, now more than ever, has built a significant multi-cultural and cross-generational following.

In 1994 he wrote "Gin & Juice:” it was about good feelings and real experiences; it just naturally became a global anthem. Snoop has always wanted to create his own spirits brand, so it was only fitting that he created the world’s best tasting gin. February awakens in Aries the ability to empathise with others, which creates a strong friendship with very interesting people. With some, you pass on your experiences to each other, which will move you a bit further in life, and maybe you will connect at work and embark on a joint project.

February will be a month full of work for Taurus. Your motivation to work will multiply, and work will become your main life activity in this period. Thanks to a high dose of determination to work, you will make high financial incomes, which you will like, and you will constantly move forward.

February will be a gloomy time for Gemini. You will work hard, and then you will not have time for your hobbies and friends. This can affect your mental health, and you will want to shut yourself off from other people.

February will bring Cancer a certain amount of self-confidence, especially at work. You will no longer be afraid to say what you like and what you don't, thanks to which your superiors will start to perceive you as equal. During this period, you will surprise yourself with your creativity and fresh ideas at work and in your personal life.

In February, Leo will be very creative but at the same time more introverted. There will be some great ideas in your head that you will want to implement. However, you must take into account that something will have to be sacrificed. Therefore, this month you better think rationally and properly consider all the pros and cons before embarking on something.

February will awaken in Virgo the need to gain publicity and to be right about everything. If someone opposes you during this period, you can get into pointless conflicts. Persuasion will be your strong point, especially at work; but don't overdo it, it could have a negative impact on your working relationships.

In February, Libra will be overwhelmed with work duties. You will get a lot of tasks from your superior that you will not be able to do, which will cause you stress. Insomnia and headaches may also occur, which you should definitely not underestimate.

In February, communication and negotiation will be the strength of all Scorpios. You will use that mainly at work, where you will achieve some significant success. That will be connected to a good financial status and maybe a promotion at work. But do not let your success go to your head; it could trigger your colleagues and even make them your enemies.

February will bring a lot of inner strength and balance to Sagittarians, which they will need this month. It is because you will get into a situation when a close person will let you down, and you will have to deal with it even though it will hurt you. On the other hand, you will gain trust in yourself, and realise that you need to forgive the person; otherwise, you will get stuck in sadness.

In February, Capricorns will demonstrate amazing communication skills and empathy. In this time, lots of your friends will feel close to you, and they will tend to ask you for your advice, you will become a popular person among your friends. However, do not let the complaints and problems of others tire you.

February will be a month of love for Aquarians. Your feelings will be stronger, so you will experience every moment of your life way more intensively. So you can use this and devote some time and energy to your partner.

February will be more of a calm month for Pisces. You should take care of your health because you will be prone to have problems with your airways. The best thing you can do is skip some fun evenings with your friends and improve your sleeping and eating habits. You should use this time period to sort out your priorities and have some rest.
