COLVIN “COCOA TEA” SCOTT
Veteran Reggae Star, has died at age 65
Jamaican music icon Colvin ‘Cocoa Tea’ Scott has passed away at age 65 following a cardiac arrest. Like his namesake, the popular Caribbean drink, Cocoa Tea was known for his sweet, sweet vocal tone and style. He scored hit after hit in the 80s, 90s, and beyond and has remained active as a recording artist and live performer in the decades that followed. As a devout Rasta, he excelled at songs of social protest, and is deeply respected by the Reggae and Dancehall community, consistently entertaining crowds with his uplifting and conscious music, whilst still maintaining his easy-going charm.
Born in the small fishing village of Rocky Point, Clarendon, on the 3rd September 1959, Tea was raised by his single mother, who worked as a domestic helper in their local neighborhood. With a traditional Christian upbringing, naturally Tea’s early musical inspiration came via the church, singing regularly in choirs and at school.
At the age of just fourteen he made his first foray into recording with producer Willie Francis. The resulting track, “Searching In The Hills”, failed to make much of an impact, leaving Tea feeling jaded with the music industry. Soon after he sought out other opportunities and began working as an apprentice and trainer at the legendary horse racing track, Caymanas Park. The tide turned, however, and subsequently Tea embarked on a career as a fisherman. It was during this time that Tea’s love for music was re-ignited and he became a regular on the Kingston soundsystem circuit.

Championed by the top-ranking Volcano Soundsystem selector Danny Dread, Tea quickly piqued the interest of revered producer Henry ‘Junjo’ Lawes. A slew of hits followed including “Rocking Dolly”, “Lost My Sonia”, “Informer” and many more. Soon Tea’s unique vocal tones and emotive songwriting, which weaved popular song melodies with the current stories of the day, became synonymous with the early sound of Dancehall. As his songwriting skills matured, Tea shifted focus to address social injustice and to promote a conscious message. He grew dreadlocks as a sign of his commitment to the Rastafarian faith and throughout his career he remained dedicated to Rasta values and fought hard for the underprivileged. In the 80s and 90s Tea was incredibly prolific, working with the predominant producers of the era such as King Jammy, Gussie Clarke, Phillip ‘Fatis’ Burell of Xterminator Records and Bobby ‘Digital B’ Dixon to name but a few, creating some of his most enduring classics including “Pirate’s Anthem”, “Tune In”, “Good Life”, “She Loves Me Now” and countless more. After working with several leading Reggae and Dancehall labels such as VP Records and Greensleeves, in 2000 he launched his own imprint, Roaring Lion. In 2008, Cocoa Tea gained widespread attention with the release of his song “Barack Obama”, a tribute in support of the then-U.S. presidential candidate who would go on to win the election. He is survived by his wife, Malvia, and their eight children. By VPRecord.com u

GEORGE FOREMAN
Boxing Legend and Master of Marketing, died at 76
George Edward Foreman was born January 10th, 1949 in Marshall, TX. He died while in the hospital, surrounded by family, on March 21st, 2025. His family has not disclosed the cause of death or reason for the hospital stay.
George Foreman was one of the greatest and most influential boxers of all time. Throughout his long career he fought some of the most wellknown boxers of the last 100 years. He fought Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Evander Holyfield, and Michael Moorer. From 1969 to 1997, Foreman had an official record of 76 wins and 5 losses with 68 of those wins by knockout. He also won the Heavyweight Boxing Championship Title twice in his career. His second win made him the most successful comeback story in the history of the sport, since he won the title after a 10 year hiatus/retirement from Boxing.
Continued on page 10
Continued from page 9
His first Heavyweight Championship was in 1972 when he beat the, at the time, undefeated Joe Frazier. And then after his 10 year hiatus and retirement he came back and later in his career at the age of 45 in 1994 he beat Michael Moorer to reclaim the Heavyweight Championship for the second time, which made him the record holder as the oldest boxer to win and defend a Heavyweight Championship title.
Early in his career, George Foreman fought one of the most famous boxing matches in history, “The Rumble in the Jungle” which was a championship bout fought in Zaire, Africa against Muhammed Ali. And if you can believe it, Ali was the “underdog” in this fight, and the 1974 victory over Foreman is still thought of as one of the biggest upsets in sports. There was a movie made about the fight titled, “When We Were Kings,” which won an Oscar for the best documentary feature film. After the loss to Muhammad Ali, Foreman continued his storied career and had five more major high profile bouts, including the infamous, Foreman v. Five exhibition match where he was attempting to prove his boxing prowess after the Ali title loss. He fought 5 opponents, back to back in the same match, and actually defeated the first three; however he was exhausted and lost the final two bouts. The match lives on in infamy, because Muhammad Ali was a commenter on the sidelines and the two fighters taunted each other throughout the match and also the fight card was filled with what were considered “easy cards” and were not the most experi-
enced fighters. But then in 1976 he knocked out Ron Lyle and Joe Frazier, for the second time. But after a loss to Jimmy Young in 1977, George said he felt like he was dying and after a prayer, he heard the lord’s voice and he announced his retirement and returned to Texas to become a Bornagain Christian Minister. He joined The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, a Holiness Pentecostal church, where he led 3 sermons a week and also organized the George Foreman Youth and Community Center that ministered to the Houston, TX area youth.
However, the Boxing itch was too strong and called George Foreman back into the fray after 10 years and in 1987 he returned to the ring with a massive winning streak, with only 3 losses over the next 10 years. And he ultimately won his second Heavyweight Championship after beating Michael Moorer in 1994 at the age of 45. He then retired for the second and final time after a controversial decision loss in score to Shannon Briggs at the age of 48 in 1996.
He attributed his success in boxing at such a relatively old age as the result of Healthy Eating, and it was that claim that ultimately led to his most profitable business venture. Of course I am talking about the George Foreman grill. In 1994 Spectrum Brands hired him as their spokesperson and celebrity endorser of the George Foreman Lean Mean
Grilling Machine. Over 15 years more than 100 Million units of the grill were sold and George Foreman was originally paid 40% of each sale and then in 1999 Salton, Inc. offered him $138 million to outright buy the rights to use of his namesake for the grill and it is estimated that George Foreman ultimately earned over $200 million from his endorsement of the fat reducing grill, which was more than he earned as a boxer. It just goes to show you that with the right opportunities success can find you even in retirement.
George Foreman was one of the greatest boxers of all time and he was one of the greatest marketers of all time, with his namesake grill. He will be remembered forever and missed dearly by family, friends and fans all over the world and by everyone who still has his namesake grill sitting on their kitchen counter, including my home. Rest in Peace good sir. by Michael Devine u

Red Ink Magazine had the pleasure of interviewing Katie, this is what this amazing, young super talented Fashion Designer had to tell us.
REDINK: Who or what influenced you to become a designer and when did it all happen?
KD: I first started designing when I was 7 years old. I draped fabrics over my Barbie’s. When I was 12, I was competing for a national pageant and found it hard to find clothing to fit due to my petite size. I remember going into dress store after dress stores and no one having clothing my size. I realized that if I was having trouble finding clothing to fit; others must also have this same problem. Being born a 1lb 6oz baby, I’ve always had trouble finding clothing that fits properly. I want every girl and woman to be able to afford quality luxury clothing that fits.
REDINK: Tell us some pros and cons you have encountered in the industry.
KD: I have been so fortunate to have such an amazing support system at such a young age. I’ve been fortunate to find like minded individuals that support my dreams. One of my models Elaina Braverman has been such a huge inspiration. She’s always been uplifting and helpful with advice. I love people around me that are positive and bring good energy to my team.

REDINK: If you could design a collection for a celebrity, who would it be and why?
KD: One of my big inspirations was Audrey Hepburn; she was so elegant, and her style still talks loudly of timeless beauty. Another inspiration of mine is Coco Rocha, a model, entrepreneur ,and a strong business woman. She is amazing. I strive for all my collections to be powerful, strong, elegant, and sophisticated like these amazing women.
REDINK: Tell us about your latest collection.
KD:My latest collections were featured at Charjean Couture and Friends Runway Show at New York Fashion Week in February; they were “The Vintage Collection” and “Pageant Collection”. These collections embrace sophistication and elegance. Inspired from vintage designs and my favorite pageant styles these collections and colors make woman and girls feel beautiful and powerful.
REDINK: Do you have a favorite collection you’re most proud of?
KD: I am most proud of my “Angel Collection”. The collection showcased 5 years ago at Gotham Hall. This was my first collection and it was an all white collection. This was the start of Charjean Couture and where it all started. This was also the start of Katie’s Little Angels.
REDINK: Tell us about your organization, ”Katie’s Little Angels”.
KD: Katie’s Little Angels is an organization that gives back to NICU babies and families. We have over 60 ambassadors nationwide. The ambassadors help with family support such as cards and words of encouragement. We also provide gas cards, diapers, wipes, hospital bags, and blankets to families as their babies are in the NICU.
REDINK: What can we expect next from you?
KD:I am so excited about this upcoming year! I have a new swim line being launched at Miami Swim Week May 31st, showing a new collection at NYFW Sept 13, and I will be showing my line in Paris in the October. This has been a huge goal and a huge milestone for Charjean Couture. I also would like to seek out and work to develop retail partnerships.
I plan to continue modeling while also promoting body positivity. I want to continue growing Katie’s Little Angels to support NICU babies and families. This concludes our interview with Katie Davis.

More U.S. and international dates to be announced. By Jennifer Cheshire Reggaewerx PR LLC
Celebrating 40 years, ‘Reggae Ambassadors’, THIRD WORLD is one of the longest-lived Reggae bands of all time, and one of Jamaica’s most consistently popular crossover acts among international audiences. Mixing in elements of R&B, funk, pop, and rock and, later on, dancehall and rap, Third World’s style has been described as “reggae-fusion”. Singer Bunny Rugs described the band’s sound: “Strictly a reggae band, no. Definitely a reggae band, yes.” Guitarist Cat Coore said of their music: “The hybrid of various types of music is a natural thing because, by growing up in Jamaica, we know the direct roots of reggae and ska. At the same time we live in a country where you get to hear Chuck Berry, Fats Domino and all the R & B artists.” Bassist Richard Daley said, “We took roots reggae music and put branches on top of it”.
The genesis of Third World was originally formed in 1973 by guitarist/cellist Steven “Cat” Coore, keyboardist Michael “Ibo” Cooper, drummer Carl Barovier and singer Milton “Prilly” Hamilton all of Inner Circle, along with bassist Colin “Oliver” Leslie. Tomorrows Children bass guitarist, Richard Daley soon replaced Colin Leslie and Leslie teamed up with Darren Green to manage and organize the group. After a few months, Barovier was replaced by Cornell Marshall, and the group made its live debut that year at Jamaica’s independence celebration. They played in and around the Kingston club scene and on the hotel scene island wide, making a name for themselves as one of the few fully self-contained bands around.
In 1974, percussionist Irwin “Carrot” Jarrett joined the group and that same year they recorded their debut single, “Railroad Track”. In 1975, Third World was eager to broaden their musical horizons and took a chance by travelling with no tour dates on the books to England. The trip was fortunate and Third World subsequently inked a deal with the internationally minded Island label, who sent the young talented musicians out as the opening act for Bob Marley & the Wailers’ 1975 World Tour.
Their self-titled debut album, Third World was released on the Island imprint in 1976 and featured a popular cover of the Abyssinians’ the roots classic “Satta Massagana.” The follow-up, 1977’s 96° in the Shade, introduced new drummer Willie “Roots” Stewart and new lead singer William Clark, aka Bunny Rugs. The LP was an enormous critical success in the U.K. and Europe, and spawned an all-time classic single in the title track. That set the stage for the group’s commercial breakthrough album, 1978’s Journey to Addis, which featured a funky, disco-flavored reggae cover of the O’Jays’ “Now That We’ve Found Love.” The song hit the Top Ten on the American R&B charts in 1979, as well as the British pop Top Ten, and the LP climbed into the R&B Top 20. The follow-up single, “Cool Meditation,” made the British Top 20 and Third World emerged as international stars.
The group quickly followed its breakout hit with The Story’s Been Told later in 1979, and it charted in the US. In 1980, they issued two albums, Rise In Harmony and the film soundtrack Prisoner in the Street, which marked the end of their tenure with Island. Third World next signed with CBS and debuted with 1981’s Rock the World, which gave them another significant crossover hit in “Dancing on the Floor (Hooked on Love),” a British Top Ten. At the 1981 Reggae Sunsplash Festival, Stevie Wonder joined Third World onstage to perform his tribute to Bob Marley, “Master Blaster (Jammin’)”; it went well enough that Wonder wrote and produced two singles on the group’s next album, 1982’s You’ve Got the Power. The first single, “Try Jah Love,” was a funky dance track that became another significant crossover hit in America, nearly hitting the R&B Top 20. The second single, “You’re Playing Us Too Close,” wasn’t as commercial, but the musical synergy created in the recording studio between Wonder & the band was so dynamic that You’ve Got the Power became Third World’s second album to hit the US R&B Top 20 charts.

The band’s success continued on through the ’80s, as 1983’s All The Way Strong and 1985’s Sense of Purpose both made the R&B Top 50. The latter album produced several crossover hits in the title track, “One To One,” and “One More Time,” which sported state-of-the-art, clubfriendly dance beats. In 1987 Third World collaborated in the studio with songwriters, Gamble and Huff and CBS released, Hold on to Love, the album went on to be their first of 10 Reggae Grammy nominations. After their departure from CBS, the band joined the Mercury label and their 1989 label debut, Serious Business, restored their commercial standing with American R&B audiences, climbing into the Top 30 on the strength of a third major crossover hit, “Forbidden Love.” One of the first commercially successful fusions of reggae and rap, “Forbidden Love” featured a guest appearance by Stetsasonic lead rapper Daddy O, and charted in the R&B Top 20.
Third World’s second Mercury album was 1992’s dancehall-flavored Committed, which produced a Top 30 R&B hit in the title cut. Their next release, 1994’s Live It Up, appeared on the band’s own label, TWB. In 1997, founding member Michael “Ibo” Cooper and Willie Stewart both departed, and were replaced by keyboardist Leroy “Baarbe” Romans and drummer Tony “Ruption” Williams, respectively and the return of Rupert Bent. This lineup released Generation Coming in 1999, landing guest spots from Shaggy and Bounty Killer. Afterwards, Romans was replaced by Herbie Harris, who made his studio debut on 2003’s Ain’t Givin’ Up. The same year Third World celebrated a quarter century of playing music by re-recording their classics for 25th Anniversary. Two years later they returned with Black, Gold, Green which included guests Beres Hammond, Wayne Marshall, and Blue Fox.
Their 2011 effort, Patriots, was released under their own label imprint, Third World Music Group featuring collaborations with Toots Hibbert, Marcia Griffiths, the late Gregory Isaacs, Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare, Dean Fraser, Inner Circle, Mykal Rose, Junior Reid, Capleton, Stephen & Damian Marley, Tarrus Riley and Tessanne Chin. Single releases from Patriots include the “Spirit Lives ft Junior Reid & Inner Circle”, a dedication to the people of Haiti after the 2011 earthquake, “By My Side ft Season 5 The Voice winner, Tessanne Chin” and showcased in Robert Townsend’s popular online series “Diary of a Single Mom”, “Good Hearted People ft Capleton”, and a remake of the band’s classic, “96 Degrees In the Shade ft Stephen and Damian Marley”.
With 10 Grammy nominations and catalogue of charted hits spanning four decades, Third World accolades include, the 1986 United Nations Peace Medal, 1992 and 1996 Jamaica Music Industry Awards for Best Show Band, New York City Ambassador Award in November 2009 at Brooklyn Academy of Music (“BAM”), 2011 Excellence in
Music at the Atlanta Caribbean Festival, numerous awards and accolades from Martin’s International Reggae and World Music Awards, in 2012 William Clark was awarded Ambassador at Caribbean American Heritage Awards in Washington DC, “The Art of Reggae Music” award for 40 years of quality music and dedication at the 2013 staging of Jamaica Jazz and Blues in Montego Bay, the Keys to the Cities of Atlanta and Key West, National Black Arts Award of Merit 2013 and more.
In Febuary 2014, lead singer William “Bunny Rugs” Clarke lost his battle with cancer. AT THE HEART OF THE MATTER
ello again RED INK foodies! In this issue we hope you enjoy our wonderful recipe selection for this month. We are always happy to share with our readers a fun recipe for you to try. Enjoy!
Instructions:
Step 1
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Generously butter a 2-quart casserole dish with 1/2 tablespoon butter.
Step 2
Using a mandoline, food processor, or simple knife, thinly slice potatoes into 1/8 inch slices and arrange potatoes in even layers in a buttered casserole dish.
Step 3
Melt 2 tablespoons butter over medium heat. Add in the minced shallot and saute for about 3 minutes or until the shallots begin to soften. Make sure you don't burn your shallots.
Step 4
Add in flour, whisking well, to form a roux (just a thickened paste). After the roux has cooked for 1 minute, slowly whisk in stock and cream.
Step 5
Season with salt and pepper and grated nutmeg. Add in fresh thyme leaves to the cream sauce. Allow simmering for several minutes until sauce is thickened, whisking constantly.
Step 6
Pour cream sauce over potatoes. Push down lightly to allow the sauce to cover all the potatoes from top to bottom. Cover scalloped potatoes tightly with foil.
Step 7
Bake covered for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and browned.
Enjoy!

Aries will sparkle thanks to new energy in April. With the arrival of spring, you will feel a high dose of motivation to exercise, and thanks to your strong will, which you will definitely not lack during this period, you will feel great changes in a moment.
April will bring a lot of energy to Taurus. This spring month will be mostly focused on relationships. Deep contemplation and reflection of things will not be on the agenda. You will be more spontaneous, so do not be afraid to take full advantage of every opportunity, but a certain amount of prudence would be appropriate. You will also be full of physical strength, which you will put to good use in sports activities.
April will be a wild month. Gemini’s moods will change like on a roller coaster, and the need to always have the last word will strengthen. However, this approach can drive away your friends, and they will want to keep their distance from you. So you shouldn't cling to your truth so much, so you don't unnecessarily argue with someone you really care about.
April awakens strong emotions in Cancer, which this sign will not be able to control at the beginning. You can expect an uncontrolled outburst of emotions that can cause significant problems in both personal and professional life.
April awakens in Leo sexual energy and unbridled appetite. All the topics that were taboo for you will now open up, and you will start to discover new areas of sexuality. Plan a whole weekend with your partner just for yourselves so that you can enjoy intimate moments without disturbing the tranquillity.
In April, Virgo will feel the need for tenderness and love. You will literally crave a hug from someone close, and you will not be able to get enough physical contact. But during this period, you will start to cling to many things and want everything right away, which will keep you in constant tension.
April will bring Libra a significant improvement in communication skills. You will use it the most in your work, where you will finally gather courage, stand out from the crowd and dictate your conditions. At the same time, you will be motivated to study a foreign language, in which you will excel, and you will start looking for opportunities where you can communicate with native speakers.
April will bring Scorpios some emotional instability and an excess of energy. Your moods will be changing, and even minor things might throw you off balance. Therefore, it is advisable that you learn how to work with your emotions because otherwise, your changing moods could discourage your friends and family from spending time with you.
In April, Sagittarians will be in tune with their parental instincts, which will be quite strong this month. So if you have children then take them on a trip maybe to some waterpark or a similar place and let your partner enjoy some free time, maybe he can go out with his friends. If you don't have children, then maybe it is time to start thinking about starting a family.
April will bring strong motivation to work and a desire for high earnings to Capricorns. You will be able to put a maximum of your energy to work, so that you will spend days and nights there. Even though at the beginning it will look like your body is dealing with it well, the tiredness will hit you later, and you might experience migraines and back pain, so do not work that much.
Aquarians will not stop at all in April because they will become go-getters, and they will be very determined and even harsh when following their goals. You will be doing better than your boss would expect, and he/she will be amazed by your achievements. Your self-esteem will grow, and you will become a centre of attention.
April will be the month when Pisces will feel a desire for knowledge and studying. Your memory will be able to absorb an incredible amount of information; even you will be surprised by that. So you have a unique chance to start studying something that you have been thinking about for quite some time because now it is a time to overcome challenges.
