This non-profit after school arts organization, created for K-12th grade students, offers classes in art, music, drama, dance, cultural arts, and creative writing.

Red Ink Magazine had the pleasure of asking Riley Smith a few questions and this is what this amazing actor/musician had to tell us.

Red Ink: Who or what inspired you to get into the entertainment business, both acting and as a musician?

RS:I’ve loved entertainment and the arts for as long as I can remember. I was the kid who would put together “concerts” for my entire family at the holidays. Id make my little sister be my back up dancer. I was probably 6 years old. In School I started doing plays and musicals and just always knew it was in my bones. But it wasn’t until I graduated High School and had the chance to move to New York for a short stint modelling career that I realized that I could actually do it for a living.

Growing up in rural Iowa, it seemed like a pipe dream until I finally got to NYC. I immediately started acting classes and got an agent. It started off as a summer trial after I graduated and the rest is history.

Red Ink: Which do you prefer, acting or your music and how do you juggle doing both?

RS:I love both and they are both very different mediums. Music is a chance for me to write my own stories. Share my own feelings. Acting is an opportunity to embody someone else and tell someone else’s story.

Red Ink: Tell us some pros and cons you've encountered in the entertainment business.

RS: “I am a mother and a woman and the story of a girl The business has made me who I am. I couldn’t have had the highs without the lows. The biggest thing I’ve learned is to not let either one (highs and lows) define who I am. Or play on my self worth. The business has also taught me patience and humility. Ive learned to really let go and just keep my head down face forward. Although it can be a roller coaster of a ride navigating your way through the business, it has also taught me to trust your course and understand that I am where I am supposed to be. Each new day is an opportunity and Ive learned to just keep walking through doors. If one closes, I find the next door and see where that goes.

Red Ink: If you could collaborate with someone you never worked with before, who would that be and why?

RS: Leo DiCaprio. Ive always been a huge fan of his work, and would love to see his process. Go toe to toe with him.

Red Ink: You did many movies over the years, is their a particular role that you would like to have that you haven't done so far?

RS: Ive always wanted to play a lawyer and haven’t yet. So thats gotta happen someday soon.

Red Ink: Can you tell us about any projects you might be working on?

RS: I just finished a four season/year run on Nancy Drew for CBS, last year. That afforded me some down time to just focus on being the best dad I can be to my 5 year old daughter. I’ll never get these moments with her back, and I’ve spent the majority of my life being selfish and focusing on me, so now I want to focus on her. It’s all I want to do, but I do realize I still need to work, so I merged my passion of being a dad into a new product that was designed for my daughter, and all kids in the world. It’s called the Pocket Buddy. Its a pocket for an apple airtag or GPS device that you can literally stick on any piece of clothing, to help track your young kids when you are out in busy public places like parks, zoos, aquarium’s etc. I have spent so many hours at places like that, and seeing other parents losing their child or yelling to find their child. And that is the most hopeless feeling in the world, even if it’s for 30 seconds. I went online to see what the solutions were and was shocked to find out that there wasn’t really anything that fit my criteria that I was looking for.

A discrete, easy way to have peace of mind and be able to track your young child. Or elderly parent. Or special needs loved one. Or pet. Basically anything you want and need to keep track of.

So I got with a great business partner in Chicago who knew how to make this new dream a reality and The Pocket Buddy TM will be available for sale on Amazon and Walmart next month!! Ive spent a year developing the product and am just so excited to be able to bring so many parents like me, peace of mind. Oh and Im almost finished with a new music album that has been a 5 year work in progress:)

Red Ink: What can we expect next from you?

RS: A lot

Red Ink: Tell your fans something unique about you that might surprise them.

RS: A little known fact about me is that I collect Starbucks coffee mugs from almost every city I go to. I have so many now that I can’t just buy anymore unless it’s a cool city that I want a keepsake from. Thats a random Riley fact:)

This concludes our interview with Riley Smith, he is truly amazing at his craft and we wish him much success with all of his endeavors.

GENE HACKMAN

Academy Award

Winning Actor, found Dead at 95

He was born, Eugene Allen Hackman, on January 30th, 1930, in San Bernardino, CA. Gene Hackman is a world renowned actor, who has won two Academy Awards. He has graced the screen in some of the biggest films of the last generation, including The French Connection, where he won Best Actor and Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven where he won Best Supporting Actor. Unfortunately, his life and esteemed career ended suddenly and mysteriously on February 17th, 2025. Sadly it was not until February 26th, that the bodies of himself, his wife, famous concert pianist, Betsy Arakawa and one of their dogs were found dead in their home. Cause of death is still currently unknown, however, Carbon Monoxide was ruled out and there were no signs of trauma.

This sad moment, should not take away or overshadow the amazing career that began several decades ago. It was at the age of 10 that Gene Hackman decided he wanted to be an actor; however he did not pursue his dreams until after he exited the Marine Corps after

finishing a four year tour as a radio operator. In 1956 at the age of 26 Gene began acting in the Pasadena Playhouse, where he met and became fast friends with another renowned actor, Dustin Hoffman. An interesting fact about these two world class Academy Award winning actors; they were both voted as least likely to succeed at the Pasadena Playhouse and Gene Hackman actually got the lowest score ever given by the playhouse.

Early on in his pursuit of stardom he was cast in several bit parts in movies, television shows and plays. However his first big role that got him noticed was in the Broadway play Any Wednesday. After his performance on Broadway, in 1964, many doors began opening up for him. His first credited role in a major film was in Lilith where he acted alongside the great Warren Beatty.

He then had his first starring role in the long running Broadway Show Poor Richard. But soon after several co-starring and high tier roles in movies and plays, he started to get noticed for his true talent, and was nominated several times over the years for Academy Awards and won two times. He had the leading roles in The French Connection, The Poseidon Adventure, and Scarecrow just to name a few. However, some of his co-starring and supporting roles were recognized just as much, like his roles in Unforgiven and Young Frankenstein, Wyatt Earp, Get Shorty, Enemy of the State and The Birdcage. From the “worst actor” in the Pasadena Playhouse to an Academy Award winning superstar; it just goes to show that with hard work and perseverance, anything can be achieved. Gene Hackman ultimately became one of the top actors of the last 50 years and is a true star and giant in the industry with over one hundred acting credits to his name. He lived a brilliant and long life, but sadly is now gone at the age of 95. Gene Hackman, you will forever be remembered and adored by your friends, family and millions of fans all around the world. Your legacy will live on in the amazing films and memories that you have given us over the last several decades. May you rest in peace. By Michael Devine

Aza’s luring performance on this track keeps to her ethos of paying respect to Roots Reggae while adding her charisma as a younger generation performing artist. Her background, steeped in music, is grounded by her family’s Serious Gold sound system which served as both a community anchor and a rich source of cultural knowledge. Those early experiences shaped her artistic sensibilities, grounding her in reggae’s heritage while inspiring her to carve out her own creative path.

After 16 years with Columbia Records, lead singer Gerald Alston took his turn as a solo artist with Motown Records; while Blue Lovett, due to doctor’s concerns regarding his health, decided to turn his attention towards producing and grooming new artists. The late 1980’s found THE MANHATTANS pursuing individual interests within the industry.

In 1993, all that changed. With their 30th anniversary approaching in 1994, it was the perfect time to reunite. So, along with new members Troy May and David Tyson, a reunion tour was born.

March will bring a lot of emotional experiences to Aries. During this period, you will be very sensitive, and the hormones will go crazy. If you have a permanent partner, you will have both very pleasant moments full of love, as well as disagreements, especially in planning your future together. But you don't have to worry, due to mutual affection you will solve everything, just be careful of unnecessary irritability.

In March, Taurus can look forward to an endless amount of courage. That's why this month is the right time to muster the courage to overcome the obstacles that have been holding you back for a long time. You will also be very sociable and thanks to your pleasant demeanour you will gain many fans.

March will bring Gemini a lot of energy and strength, which Gemini will use mainly for the benefit of their physical condition. However, do not overdo it right at the beginning, your body may not be prepared for such a load, and you could get injured.

March will be a peaceful time for Cancer. This month you will be more prone to colds, so rest and do not overdo it unnecessarily; you will not miss anything. On the contrary, you have a great chance that you will come up with a good idea, which you will be able to implement later, thanks to physical and mental well-being.

March in Leo will support his temperament. With great enthusiasm, you will embark on everything that comes your way, and you will excel in everything. This can upset your surroundings, which will be envious of your success. In the company of others, you will stand out with great communication skills and a sense of humor.

In March, Virgo will learn a lot of new things. Your memory will be very good during this period, so open up to new information and try activities demanding analytical thinking. At the same time, you can look forward to a big dose of creativity, so don't be afraid to experiment.

March will be a busy month for Libra. Get ready for big changes in your personal life. If you feel like you haven't moved anywhere for a long time, it's time to do something about it. If you've been thinking about moving, don't worry and go for it. If you are thinking of changing jobs, you are most likely to find something that you will really enjoy.

In March, Scorpios will start to desire a feeling of safety. You will feel the best when being hugged by a close person, whether your partner or a member of your family. Your need to share your feelings will be very strong, so if there is nobody you could open your heart to, you will tend to be melancholic or even depressed.

With the arrival of March, Sagittarians will start to feel very self-confident and relaxed. You will radiate positive energy, which will attract your friends and close ones, so they will feel a need to spend time with you. Your diary will fill up with meetings with your friends, you will become very popular, mainly because of your unique sense of humour, so you will not have much time for yourself.

In March, Capricorns will experience some disappointment connected to their relationships. You will have to deal with feelings such as that you are always attracted to the wrong person and will stay alone forever. Do let those feelings fill you up; it is not true.

March will be a quiet time filled with gaining new knowledge for Aquarians. Do not expect any big sports achievements this month because you will feel tired and might experience some muscle pain. However, your mind will not rest, so you will be able to use this calm period to sort your thoughts out.

In March, Pisces' feelings about a future with their partner might be quite messy. Even though you will be mostly in a good mood, those feelings will be affecting you. You should not hide your doubts, and you should try to talk about them with your partner now. In this time period, your acts will be affected by the energy you radiate.
