This Issue: David Cooper, Andy Moss, Josh Clark, and Dylan Leggett at Melodic Records

How did you personally get started in the music industry?
Dave: I played in a band called The Last Peach and we started getting some interest from people in London. I got a job in System Records in Hebden Bridge around the same time. A local journalist called Mark Hodkinson used to come in and we shared a love of the Pixies and Kitchens Of Distiction and he joined The Last Peach. Mark had set up a music publicity firm called Pomona and I asked him if I could work for free a couple of days a week just for the experience. This turned into a full-time paid music publicist job. After around 6 years I left to set up my own music publicity company, In House Press and around the same time heard this amazing demo by a student journalist I’d got to know (James Rutledge). His Pedro EP became Melodic’s first release. I sent the record to my publicity contacts and The Face gave it an excellent review and John Peel played it about 5 times on radio 1 (2 or 3 times at the wrong speed).
Before working at the label did you have any experience playing in bands or making music of your own?
Andy: I played in tons of bands on drums, starting at about 14 when my Mum would drop me off with the naughty older kids for practice, I played in bands and toilet venues all over the country until about 25, but it kind of petered out.
Josh: Yeah, I played guitar in a couple of bands at school/college which (I thought…) were great and I had a lot of fun doing that. Between them we played a good handful of shows locally and a few slightly further but sadly didn’t manage to get further than that. Dylan - I did classical piano for 7 years and got to grade 2 of 8, so I think I’m best off on the other side.
What is the meaning behind the name for the label?
Dave: I’ve always had a thing about melody in music, whether that be The Smiths or Boards of Canada. Someone once joked that reviewers would often use the term ‘melodic and tuneful’ so we called one of our compilations in the early days A Roomful Of Tuneful.
How has the label changed since it started?
Andy: When the label first started it was just David, and then I came in as an intern, so it was a pretty small operation back then. We’ve since grown to six members of staff and usually one or two interns a week, so the scale of the label has increased dramatically. These days we view ourselves more as a holistic music company rather than just a label. We manage artists, have a publishing arm, and even label-manage overseas labels. We also handle a lot of press and radio ourselves, both domestically and abroad. We like to see ourselves as a one-stop shop and aren’t afraid to get our hands dirty — I suppose in that sense we’re keeping the DIY spirit alive somewhat!
What was the biggest challenge for you and the label during the Pandemic?
Josh: One of the bigger challenges was navigating who could be in the office and when (within the government guidelines) to keep on top of the mailorder as that train kept rolling. Obviously, not being
able to see each other face to face and bounce ideas off each other, or listen collectively to a new record someone has just found really started to take its toll the deeper we got into it, but we were lucky enough to be able to keep working and be it through zoom, emails, smoke signals, carrier pigeons, we were still able connect and chat to people about our music and get excited about what we had coming up.
What is your stance on color vinyl?
Josh: Personally, I’m not a huge fan of color vinyl (I couldn’t tell you exactly why, I just prefer keeping it trad), but I know that it can be a big thing for collectors and we do find that a lot of new fans of vinyl head straight to the color variants. We tend to always offer black as standard and then we’ll do one color version for an album. There are some incredibly impressive and innovative ways that people are using color and design in their vinyl products and it’s really interesting to watch that evolve, it’s already gone so much further than I could have imagined.
How do you feel about the rising costs of vinyl records? And what about the continued popularity of the CD format? It’s a tough one isn’t it. Labels obviously need to up their prices to cover the increasing costs of making the records to even make a small bit of profit to send into the next release. Unfortunately, that means that it’s the customers that are taking the weight of that in increased prices in the stores. It’s not something we enjoy having to raise because we want as many people to have access to our records as possible, but for us to be sustainable as a label it’s unfortunately something we have to do. It is something we’re very mindful of though.
I’m sure we could all argue about the difference in audio qualities between vinyl and a CD but they are much cheaper and very convenient access point for a fan to own a physical copy of the record (hopefully forever) and I’m all for that. As long as moves keep being made to make them more environmentally friendly, and that’s really important, then I think it’s a win-win.
What in your opinion has been the biggest change in the music industry from when you first started compared to now?
Andy: The industry is always changing and evolving at pace, but I suppose the somewhat obvious (and maybe boring) answer would be streaming and how it has revolutionized access to music — and the knock-on effects of that, both good and bad. The ability to release music worldwide is now something literally anyone can access, so the sheer volume and speed of the industry has increased massively. In some ways it’s very democratic; music can blow up organically without any label involvement at all. On the other hand, it can be very tough to cut through the noise.
Want to shout out a personal favorite record store or retail establishment? Now’s your chance
Andy: Of course we have to shout out Piccadilly Records here in Manchester, who are fantastic and always big supporters of the label. Same goes for Resident down in Brighton, who spearhead the Dinked editions. If you’re ever passing through Manchester, I’d recommend King Bee in Chorlton for £1 dancefloor 12”s, and Sifters in Burnage, who still price second-hand classic records at £3.50!

NO EXPORT TO AUSTRALIA, EU, JAPAN, UK; SELL CALLAHAN’S DAYS TO ALL 57 OTHER TERRITORIES!

My Days of 58 is the eighth Bill Callahan album, his first since 2022. The twelve tunes here open uncanny depths of expression as Bill continues to blaze one of the most original songwriting-and-performance trails out there. With My Days of 58, he applies the living, breathing energies of his live shows to the studio process, sharpening his slice-of-life portraiture to cut deeper than ever before.
The core musicians featured on My Days of 58 is the group that toured for 2022’s REALITY: guitarist Matt Kinsey, saxophonist Dustin Laurenzi and drummer Jim White, whose synergy was evident in 2024’s live Resuscitate!. This showed Bill, as he puts it, “that they could handle anything I threw at them,” adding:
“Improv/unpredictability/the unknown is the thing that keeps me motivated to keep making music. It’s all about listening to yourself and others. A lot of the best parts of a recording are the mistakes making them into strengths, using them as springboards into something human.”

With this in mind, Bill prepared the songs with each player separately. Taking a note from songwriter, fan and friend Jerry DeCicca, he recorded the basic tracks for all but one song in a duo with Jim White. Meanwhile, he rehearsed with Matt, guitar to guitar, while asking Dustin to make horn charts for a few songs. Bill:
“I usually just sing a melody to a horn player or let them try a few takes and go from there. This time I thought, why not get some of the record charted out. There’s always room for spontaneity on top of that. And we did indeed throw some off the cuff stuff on top of the charted horns in a couple cases where they weren’t fully doing what I wanted.
With this record I kept thinking of it as a ‘living room record.’ I’m not talking about fidelity at all here. Living room attitude. Living room vibe. Not too loud, not otherworldly. I asked for the horns to be relaxed like someone on the couch playing, not a blast from heaven or hell.”
For more spontaneity and human color, Bill called up several other players: Richard Bowden on fiddle, whom he’d seen playing with Terry Allen and loved; pianist Pat Thrasher; bassist Chris Vreeland; and trombonist Mike St. Clair. About pedal steel player Bill McCullough, who he knew from Knife in the Water, Bill says this:
“He has a real abstract approach to an abstract instrument he’s a photographer (shot the front and back cover) and sees the steel in the same way as apertures and f-stops foreground and mid ground and background blurry and sharp. That’s how I’ve always seen the steel so it’s exciting to share that.
But hobo stew is always the idea throwing together who I have at hand instead of following a recipe. I’m always learning. I know very little after all these years. I go by gut mostly, but sometimes forget all the possible considerations to consider.
The goal of every record at the recording part of the process is to get thrown out of Eden. Every session starts in Eden but you have to get out of there at some point.”

CIRCLE X ON DRAG CITY DISTRIBUTED LABELS:

Some 42 years after its initial release, Circle X’s Prehistory returns to the vinyl format. New listeners to this music will discover, in addition to the roiling compulsion in its odd, dance-damaged clockwork and instinctive joining of feral and aestheticized values, a refined understanding of the width and breadth of “post-punk” music, both in and out of its time.
In and out of time, Circle X operated between 1978 and 1995, formed in Louisville, KY, but existing largely as a New York-based collective, a band who insisted on working outside the standard definitions. Even their name the symbol of a circle with an X through it was a provocation. Typing it in English letters, just the sort of tedium they’d united to transcend. And they did: with two albums, two EPs and a handful of singles, each one of which challenged the developments of the present times with a bewildering synthesis of impulses and energies.
Arriving in New York in late ‘78, they found a rehearsal space and gigged around at CBGB’s and elsewhere, alongside DNA and other No Wave acts of the era, recording their first single before decamping to France at the request of their new manager, Bernard Zekri They split their time between Dijon and Paris and returned to New York in the spring of 1980, having recorded their “untitled” EP.
At this time, the art aspects of Circle X in performance were brought to the fore. Similarly, the recording of Prehistory developed as much on a conceptual basis as the shows. In 2009, Rik Letendre told Dusted Magazine, “This was before the age of sampling. We bought a lot of mini-tapes for phone machines, and we were making loops and playing against them. We would record something, play it back through an amp, and then add to it over that. So it was like layered loops. As it became more and more layered, it became more distorted so you didn’t recognize exactly what was happening in the original recording. Things took on their own sonic presence.”
And also: “in France… Bernard Zekri… had a bunch of Arabic records: Farid el Atrash, Oum Kalsoum, old 78s. We would listen to those and they had a great influence on us… some of those Oum Kalsoum records… we had no idea what she was saying, but you’d listen to her voice and you just wanted to weep. Also, the orchestration of it was just incredible.”
Circle X’s music has continued to grow through each further iteration of “the present times.” Their third and final album, an expression utterly distinct from all earlier evocations, was released on Matador in their early 90s heyday. The “untitled” EP was reintroduced to the contemporary ear twice, via Moikai’s 1996 CD version and Insolito’s 2009 vinyl repress. In both instances, it was noted, as had been in ‘79, how little their music sounded like anything else from then or whenever the current now was. That still holds true in the present present. Similarly, Prehistory was re-injected into the marketplace via Blue Chopsticks’ 2008 CD edition (at which time, BC described the music as “a tire-burning left-turn… gritty and cloudy… the sound of unhurried, committed exploration” ). Again confronting the listener with its dark logic, as it will again today. And tomorrow…

BUCK MEEK The Mirror

A gleaner of the forgotten, Buck Meek tips over the familiar and turns the unknown into a companion. On The Mirror, the artist’s fourth solo record and second album released by 4AD, there’s a tender power, countered by immutable vulnerability. With an uncanny curiosity, Meek conjures twin worlds to reveal the uniqueness in the mundane. Inviting in reflection as collaborator and demon as friend, The Mirror doesn’t seek to know but to ask, looking to the shape of a question rather than the illusion of its answer.
Meek grew up in Wimberley, Texas, teenage protege to an old guard of mystic Texas songwriters and musicians. He later moved to New York where he met Adrianne Lenker. The two lived in a van while singing their songs across the country before forming Big Thief.
The partnership of Meek and producer, James Krivchenia, emerged from a decade of work together in Big Thief. Conceptually, The Mirror emerged from the idea to combine Meek’s band’s live, kinetic energy with an oblique electronic world. The pair invited a collective atmosphere in which simultaneous experiment could occur––the musicians responded to each other in real time, while their instruments triggered modular synthesizers and electronic magic boxes. The Mirror welcomed in friends, family, longtime collaborators from ranging musical eras of life as vital co-creators. New creative partners and longtime friends like composer and ambient musician Alex Somers joined in on synthesizer, toy microphone, and piano, and Mary Lattimore brought in the sounds of her prismatic harp.
Lexical mirrors are handheld, tactile, and kept close throughout the record––each one holding up a new truth. The Mirror aptly embraces the unknown with an abiding curiosity and Meek continues to reveal his skill as translator of human feeling and its endless portals. The Mirror looks for duality, finding it in the weeds and overgrowth.

Artist: Jane Weaver
Title: The Fallen By Watch Bird (Expanded Edition)
Release date: 2026-02-27
Label: Fire Records
Jane Weaver – The Fallen By Watch Bird (Expanded Edition)
On its 15th anniversary The Fallen By Watch Bird is reissued as a special expanded edition with The Watchbird Alluminate, featuring reinterpretations by Demdike Stare, The Focus Group, Anworth Kirk, Emma Tricca and others. Originally released on Weaver’s own label Bird Records, it is a tapestry of psychedelic femme-folk-rock drawing influence from Eastern European children's cinema, Germanic kunstmärchen, 70s television music and 80s electronic scores. Steeped in synths and mysticism, this fully realised conceptual record weaves imagery of absent sailors, telekinesis, bird messengers and white witchcraft alongside pagan themes of death and rebirth. A formative masterpiece from her ever-growing discography, The Fallen By Watch Bird continued to build on the themes of its predecessor (Like An Aspen Leaf) and innovative production techniques developed in her earlier releases.
Presented across seven chapters it features performances from Septième Sœur Wendy Flower of the Wendy & Bonnie folk-pop duo who released 1969’s Genesis, Lisa Jen – Welsh vocalist on Gruff Rhys’ Candylion – lost American folk-pop singer Susan Christie and Bosnian folk musician and violinist Behar.
As accompanying extras, ‘The Watchbird Alluminate’ continues with a sense of wonderment through explorations into drone, psychedelia, folk and shapeshifting soundscapes. Inspired by postwar cinematic interpretations and the traditions of chronicling folk stories, Weaver reimagines the original release with spoken word narrative from Susan Christie reinterpreted by Ghostbox’s Focus Group; elsewhere Bird label artists Emma Tricca and falsetto soloist Magpahi offer their own interpretations. The release evokes David Lynch’s Twin Peaks on ‘Whispers of Winter’ with Wendy Flower alongside alluring vocal moments reminiscent of Vashti Bunyan (‘Turning In Circles’ ft. Emma Tricca) and Kate Bush (‘My Soul Was Lost & No one Saved Me’ ft. Magpahi).
Jane Weaver’s illustrious career has produced an expansive library of music that has seen her journey through solo folkloric and pop leaning beginnings through to the psychedelic synth-pop explorations of today. Celebrating her pioneering vision, Fire Records will be deep diving into her early catalogue with a new reissue series set for release in 2026.
“For sheer musical scope alone, this is an entire acid, folk, world, blues festival in itself. ...she is forging a powerful and lasting cult appeal.” The Quietus

Heavenly return! As fiercely independent as any punk band, but as sweetly melodic as any chart-topping act, Heavenly combine sharp-edged lyrics with shamelessly joyful pop music.
‘Highway To Heavenly’ shares this musical recipe with the band’s first four albums, all of which were released in the 1990s at a time when sensitive indie types in the UK were sheltering from the prevailing macho-rock storm under the Sarah Records umbrella, and when women in the US were starting to find their Riot Grrrl voices in the small town of Olympia, where labels like K and Kill Rock Stars were designing a new creative space.
Heavenly were on Sarah Records in the UK and on K in the US - and maybe this is a useful shorthand for understanding the band’s ability to meld the attitude of American Riot Grrrl bands with the pop charms of the English indie scene. In terms of style, Heavenly presented an androgynous look – short hair and pinafores for Amelia and Cathy - while Peter Rob and Mathew determinedly avoided the theatrics of male rock. Heavenly did not want to fit in with the hypergendered corporate music scene of the 1990s, and the band have stayed determinedly independent ever since (this new album is released on Rob and Amelia’s Skep Wax label). The new songs are full of anger, of grief, of empathy, of love, and set themselves in opposition to the resurgence of the cold ‘masculine energy’ that is making the world a miserable, aggressive place today.

Indian Summer of Love finds The Bongolian immersed in a new set of sounds and influences for a new Belle Epoch. It’s a musical landscape informed by the Sixties psychedelia of India via a Haight Ashbury happening. It’s a kaleidoscopic vision that takes us from a 20th century Fin de Siècle and lands us in the here and now of the 21st Century. It’s for dancers, for seekers and is all underscored by The Bongolian’s trademark heavy rhythms and breaks. It’s another fine instalment of essential cuts for the dancefloor and for high fidelity listening, quality is guaranteed. From the East to the West, welcome to the Indian Summer of Love. Nasser Bouzida performs drums, percussion, guitars and keys whilst the album features several new flavours to the Bongolian sound with the prominent instrumentation of sitars and bansuri, along with flute, trumpet, saxophone and trombone performances from several stellular international guest musicians.
Peter Cat –Starchamber

The album finds Glasgow’s Peter Cat expanding his reputation as a genre-blurring songwriter, weaving intricate musical and lyrical layers into a record of fizzing, synth-driven musicality, rousing energy, and eerie allure. Reflecting on closeness, surrender, and the edges of identity, Star Chamber balances theatrical art rock with an accessible immediacy. Hailing from Scotland, Peter Cat has built a cult reputation for outsider pop that is both strangely uplifting and steeped in existential contemplation. This deluxe pressing offers the complete album experience, pairing the physical weight of the format with the immersive soundworlds of the music.

Tōth’s paradoxical 3rd album, And e Voice Said

is a prayer to be able to pray, a meditation on why he meditates, and a collection of jokes about what he holds sacred.
A founding member of art-pop group Rubblebucket, Tōth says “I’ve always felt conflicted about my spiritual strivings. I never wanted to identify as a Buddhist because Buddhism is supposed to be about non-identity. ere’s a classic line: ‘If you see the Buddha, kill the Buddha.’ is album is my a empt to kill the Buddha.”
For Tōth, that might mean ending shows with audience-wide singalongs of “Open your heart to the universe!”
Part irony, part catharsis. “It’s tongue-in-cheek but joyous,” he explains. “My default is so negative and self-loathing. I’m poking fun at the same things I need to survive.”

It’s also the first Tōth album involving another producer. “I’ve never liked having teachers or sponsors, but I need them to get out of my own way. Caroline wouldn’t let me hide behind abstraction; they had practices to help me connect with the ‘voice’ in the title.”
Across the album, Tōth swings between the buoyant self-reassurance of “Not Broken” to the spiraling doubt that follows, taps into the zeitgeist with “Ice Cream” and into his inner voices with “Triangle People.” His trumpet blares fanfare and alarm. As the record closes, he’s found a fragile kind of weightless, trembling peace.
It’s clear Tōth hasn’t killed the Buddha. His assassination a empts fail leaves behind so much beauty that, for a

Made after a reset following a period of burnout, the record blends ambient and classical composition while rubbing up against the rougher textures of shoegaze. Short and tightly constructed, Kinds embraces minimalism. As the world outside becomes noisier, this is a project that creates calm and solace – while planting a flag in yet another new frontier of popular music.

SECONDWIND
Strut Records highlights a landmark in British jazz-rock with Second Wind, the 1972 album from keyboard visionary Brian Auger and his powerhouse group Oblivion Express Capturing a fully matured lineup, the record finds Auger expanding his fusion language - bridging jazz sophistication, funk-driven rhythm, and soul-infused songwriting with the clarity and fire that defined his early ’70s work
Though Auger’s roots lie in the lineage of hard-swinging jazz organ and the improvisational fire of the ’60s British scene, he has never been an artist content with tradition With Second Wind, he moves further into a hybrid language that fuses rhythm with harmonic depth and groove, without sacrificing sophistication. His playing is expansive yet precise, translating the electricity of live performance into a studio work that breathes with immediacy.
At the heart of this era of Oblivion Express is the telepathic rapport among its members. Vocalist Alex Ligertwood (in one of his earliest major recordings before Santana fame) brings a soulful intensity that feels both grounded and forwardlooking. Second Wind contains tracks that have become deeply significant in Auger’s discography - original compositions Second Wind, and Truth to name a few - but it was Auger's high octane revisioning of Eddie Harris' Freedom Jazz Dance, (adding new lyrics to the original instrumental) that genuinely broke barriers The track became a DJ friendly classic and highlighted the groups deeply original approach
The rhythm section of Barry Dean and Robbie McIntosh balances weight and fluidity, giving Auger the space to stretch across Hammond organ, Rhodes, and keys with characteristic boldness Their collective sound is one of seamless motion: jazzinflected lines swelling into rock-driven crescendos, funk-leaning grooves locking with vocal hooks, moments of quiet clarity emerging between bursts of improvisation
Second Wind stands as a pivotal moment in Auger’s discography: a record that bridges the exploratory spirit of his earlier projects with the more groove-oriented approach that would soon bring international attention More than five decades later, it remains a vivid document of a band carving out its own language Music born of instinct, collaboration, and a restless desire to push beyond the expected

BRIANAUGER’SOBLIVIONEXPRESS
OBLIVIONEXPRESS
Strut Records presents a fresh look at Oblivion Express, the 1971 album that marked Brian Auger’s shift into a new musical frontier. After years spent shaping the sound of British jazz-soul with the Trinity, Auger stepped into the new decade with a leaner, electrified ensemble and a renewed sense of purpose. This record captures the moment that transformation took shape.
Oblivion Express introduced a sound that was distinctly Auger’s own. Rather than echoing the fusion emerging in the United States, Auger developed a language rooted in the UK’s jazz underground, culminating in a spaced out jazzrock / prog-fusion album awash with larger than life drum fills and Auger’s virtuosic organ playing Between bassist Barry Dean and drummer Robbie McIntosh the album moves effortlessly between tight, articulated phrases and broader, improvisational passages The trio’s interplay forms the backbone of the album and sets the tone for the sound that would define the early years of the Express
Album opener “Dragon Song” launches with a restless drive that immediately signals Auger’s new direction Auger chose to record this version of John McLaughlin’s piece (his friend and former bandmate in 'The Niddy Griddys') after hearing McLaughlin’s album Devotion during its mix at New York’s Record Plant Studios Auger was blown away, recalling, “Oh my god, this is amazing I wanted to record that myself - and I did!” Pieces like “Total Eclipse” demonstrate the Oblivion Express’ command of dynamic contrast, and title track “Oblivion Express” explores the cinematic and compositional prowess of the group through stripped back, building moments vs explosive melodic breakdowns Riff-heavy “The Sword” later became known through Madlib’s usage in 2014 tracks “Yeti Movie” and “Parodies”
In retrospect, Oblivion Express stands as a jazz leaning, prog-rock masterpiece and foundational moment in Auger’s catalogue. It captures the starting point of a new sound that is more focused, more urgent, and fully committed to the possibilities of jazz-rock at the dawn of the seventies. The album remains a vivid document of a band discovering its identity and setting the stage for the further array of influential releases that would follow.

Recorded during an almost 24-hour marathon first-day session for All My Relations , "Mitote" emerged from group improvisation and composition, featuring Sunny Jain (Red Baraat) on the dhol. Bosco and the band worked up an arrangement quickly with a heavy backbeat, building the melody on a blues form–embodying the world's nature of ecstasy and struggle. "Dilo" was recorded during the Ancestros Futuros sessions, but was left off the album. The rhythmic framework was composed by Brian Wolfe and arranged by the band. The song features call and response between the percussion and saxophone punctuated by high bell patterns and low bottom drum hits.

deathcrash are a four-piece slowcore band from London. Emerging alongside South London peers like Black Country, New Road and Black Midi, they’ve carved out a more introspective, enigmatic presence – the quiet architects of something grand. deathcrash’s third album, Somersaults, glimmers with everyday euphoria.
The London slowcore/post-rock quartet, long known for building and dismantling emotional worlds, turn toward something almost joyful here. Recorded between Black Box Studio in the Loire Valley and Haggerston’s Holy Mountain, its ten tracks are their most vocal-driven yet – think Mark Linkous via The Kinks – though lyrics remain elusive, half-swallowed by the textures of life. “Thirty, no career, it fucking worries me,” Banks admits on “NYC,” before concluding, “This life is the best life,” on “CMC,” over the hum of an office printer.
Their slowcore lineage – Duster, Low, Codeine – runs deep through Somersaults: songs crawl, expand, and collapse inward, their catharsis softened by tenderness. The bass anchors, drums gasp, and even silence feels communal – friends creating space for each other’s ghosts, and in doing so, their biggest, brightest songs yet.

Following her acclaimed 2023 release Flood City Trax, a dreamy, lo-fi take on footwork inspired by the crumbling rustbelt city she calls home, Nondi returns to Planet Mu with her second self-titled album, Nondi…
While Nondi… retains some of the hazy, nostalgic atmosphere of Flood City Trax, it pushes her sound in bold new directions.
“I made this album to capture the sense of freedom I used to get from music when I was first discovering it all,” Nondi says. “It’s meant to be cute, fun, kinda weird and emotional — but most of all, it’s a presentation of some of the prettiest tracks I’ve made.”
Though she hasn’t really experienced club culture where she lives, her impressionistic productions evoke the surreal, lingering sounds of a night out — the melodic haze that hums in your ears as you drift off to sleep. Lo-fi and melodic, yet fluid and free, her music carries a sense of flight and intuitive logic.
Nondi’s influences range widely — Actress, Aphex Twin, footwork, and the stranger edges of dub techno are all felt, yet she hallucinates them through her own weathered, dreamlike lens. Her tracks often build from clashing loops that evolve and transform organically, or from familiar genre elements reshaped by her instinct for misty, heart-wrenching melody.
Some moments stay closer to genre, like Broken Future 175, a drum-and-bass tear-out that dissolves into lush, blurred chords, or Just Hanging Out, a bruised and beautiful take on 2-step. Lead single Tree Festival feels like a blown-out fusion of rave energy and sped-up new-age bliss, while Death Juke drifts through offbeat vocal samples, pulsing drums and 8-bit FX, reminiscent of early Steve Reich reimagined through a Game Boy.
Nondi… is a uniquely moving and exploratory album that expands her sonic world even further. Lo-fi yet luminous, playful yet profound.

The Set Up is the wayward sister record to The Delines 2025 release, Mr. Luck & Ms. Doom. Each song here is a little movie full of grifters either struggling to get out of the life or just falling into it, the aftermath, the wreckage after the breakup, the lost and not the romantics adrift on the road. Willy says "The Delines were finishing the Mr. Luck & Ms. Doom sessions when I brought in a tune called "Walking With His Sleeves Down." Amy learned it on piano and we recorded it live. Her take was stunning but the song didn’t quite fit the record. It was lonelier, more rattled, and it missed that rudderless romance that inhabits the world of Mr. Luck & Ms. Doom, so we set it aside. And then I brought in the idea of "The Set Up," a piece I’d been thinking about for a while, a spoken word song in three parts: the lure, the catch, and the grift. I wrote the words, Cory wrote the music, and Amy played the part and man oh man did she deliver. "Keep The Shades Down" was written as a link between the romance of Mr. Luck & Ms. Doom and the isolation of the The Set Up. The couple in the song realizes just how close the haves are to being have nots. I had written “Jumping Off In Madras” for the woman in “Her Ponyboy,” (Mr. Luck & Ms. Doom), as she gets off the freight train alone after the death of her boyfriend. Cory wrote Getting Out Of The Ward for the guy in “The Meter Keeps Ticking” who is leaving the mental hospital two days after Christmas and the stunningly beautiful “The Last Time I Saw Her” for the kid in “The Reckless Life” as she sets off from the hospital into the darkness of the world. The tracks came together fast and it was so naturally cinematic in feel that Cory and I began bringing in instrumentals to make it even more so."

Produced by John Morgan Askew The Set Up is The Delines at their rawest and CinemaScope best.

BLOOD &
BRONZE SPLATTER VINYL EDITION)
STREET DATE: MARCH 6, 2026
With a title like Cannibal, it’s no surprise that this 2007 album presents Static X at its most, er, bloodthirsty. Lead singer Wayne Static put it plainly: “I think it’s the most metal record we’ve ever made, and it’s arguably the heaviest record we’ve ever made.” Cannibal is the first Static X record to have numerous guitar solos, which herald the return of founding guitarist Koichi Fukuda; and the change in producers (from Ulrich Wild to John Travis) no doubt played a role in the band’s shift back to the more intense sound they premiered with Wisconsin Death Trip. The record went Top 40, and “No Submission” wound up on the Saw 3 soundtrack. In short, a return to form after the chaotic personnel and stylistic changes of Start a War Cannibal is here given its first-ever vinyl reissue with a bonus track (“Light It Up”). Blood and bronze splatter pressing inside a gatefold jacket!

STREET DATE: MARCH 6, 2026
Having delved deep into the Deicide catalog, we now turn our fiendish eyes to another hugely influential death metal band out of Tampa (must be something in the water)! We are of course talking about Obituary, who, like Deicide, includes a pair of brothers, drummer Don and vocalist in extremis John Tardy. 1989’s Slowly We Rot is, simply put, probably the most savage debut record ever made; reactions at the time ranged from Ozzy Osbourne’s exclamation that “They’re f**king mad!” to journalist Phil Alexander’s proclamation in the pages of RAW that it was “The type of album that’ll make you froth at the mouth.” Adding to its landmark status is the fact that SWR was the first record produced by soon-tobe go-to death metal producer Scott Burns. For its FIRST-EVER U.S. vinyl reissue, we’ve had it remastered for the format, added two bonus tracks (demo versions of “Find the Arise” and “Like the Dead”), and pressed in corpse blue with blood splatter vinyl to match Rob Mayworth’s incredible album cover illustration. The first in a series of Obituaries to come!

The Talking Heads spawned a number of worthy side projects and spinoffs—

David Byrne & Brian Eno’s My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, Jerry Harrison’s The Red and the Black—but none were as funky, danceable, and flat-out fun as Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth’s Tom Tom Club. Conceived as something of a larkish break from the grandly realized intellectual and artistic pretensions of the Heads’ Remain in Light record, the duo’s self-titled 1981 debut was recorded in Barbados with Weymouth’s sisters and Adrian Belew and Steven Stanley from the Remain in Light band, and not only spawned a couple of hit singles in “Genius of Love” and “Wordy Rappinghood” but also became, in its own way, enormously influential. This was the sound of downtown New York talking, listening, and rapping to the burgeoning hip hop movement, a hybrid heard in a whole host of acts in the ‘80s and ‘90s, from Madonna to Mariah Carey to the Beastie Boys and beyond. Weymouth and Frantz went on to record several more albums under the Tom Tom Club moniker, but this remains the classic. For its 45th anniversary, Real Gone Music is proud to offer Tom Tom Club in a clear with green, pink, and white splatter vinyl edition that matches the album’s colorful cover and pays homage to its polyglot sound. The first track on this 4-CD set is “This Could Be the Start of Something Big,” and it sure is: here, at last, is the Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormé collection all of their fans have been waiting for, the biggest and (by far) best-sounding set ever devoted to the pair of legendary pop vocalists. Under the supervision of their son David Lawrence (who contributes a personal note to the booklet), we’ve gone back to the original tapes for most of these 72 tracks; some of these have never appeared on CD, and, with Eric Boulanger’s new remastering, the ones that have come out sound much better than they did before. Disc One, “Duet Classics,” features such career touchstones for the couple as “Baby It’s Cold Outside,” “For Once in Your Life,” and “We Got Us.” Disc Two, “Steve Classics,” brings the hits with “Portrait of My Love,” “Footsteps,” and “Go Away Little Girl” along with such signature renditions as “I’ve Gotta Be Me” and “I Want to Be with You” and even an unreleased track, “You and I.” Eydie takes over (and how!) on Disc Three with such smashes as “Blame It on the Bossa Nova,” “What Did I Have That I Don’t Have,” “If He Walked into My Life,” “Tonight I’ll Say a Prayer,” and her Spanish-language classic with Trio Los Panchos, “Sabor a Mí.” And Disc Four revels in the duo’s love of Broadway with songs like “Mama, A Rainbow,” “The Ladies Who Lunch,” “Two on the Aisle,” and the uproarious “The Honeymoon Is Over.” Like this collection, Joe Marchese’s liner notes follow Steve and Eydie’s career every step of the way, and we’ve included some rare photos courtesy of the estate. The ultimate collection indeed, the comprehensive, careerspanning collection these two icons have long deserved!

Hater - Mosquito
"One of the best bands in the world." Gorilla vs Bear
Scandinavian indie pop four-piece Hater end a three-year hiatus following their formidable third album Sincere with the release of Mosquito, an intriguing dream pop drama played out across eleven gripping instalments of self-examination.
On Mosquito, Malmö-based Hater sound rejuvenated – they embrace the raw indie pop approach that they’ve become known for, but with a more direct, polished songwriting style. The band have refined their shoegaze roots into something sharper, more melodic, and deeply resonant. Mosquito overflows with stories where mythical twists (vampires, Cupid, mosquitos) are underpinned by the sad-eyed yearning for true love. But this is not your typical album about love the band are keen to point out.
'Angel Cupid' unfurls in slow motion, a gorgeously controlled diatribe against bland love songs when you’re locked out of that emotion yourself. The curious lead single 'This Guy?' is a mystery in itself: the tale of a strangely confused interloper, unidentified and unidentifiable – and the band themselves call it “a quiet confusing song”. Entering an echoey cavern of gothic strangeness, “Stinger's” insistent drums and Caroline’s lyrics worm into the inner thoughts of a love struck supernatural.
An emotional rollercoaster by any other name, Mosquito spills over with half remembered broken hearts and broken promises, filled with torture and tingle, yet punctuated by hopes and dreams for future resolutions.
Mosquito was recorded in the splendid isolation of AGM Studios in Vollsjö, Sweden, with long-time collaborator Joakim Lindberg at the controls and bassist Adam Agace returning to the fold. They completed the project at Lindberg’s famed Studio Sickan, with Caroline Landahl, Måns Leonartsson, Rasmus Andersson, and Adam Agace all contributing equally to a sound that morphs between punchy introspection and melancholy realisation.
"Your next Scandinavian indie pop obsession." Flood

“Everything about this album makes me feel the way I felt when I first realized I wanted to be in a band and make music! Honest songs of truth and love.” – Julie Doiron
“Teachers have to get louder these days. Status is action, not awareness. The only teaching in the times of now.” – Kevin Drew (Broken Social Scene)
“Status should be blasted at max volume through the stereo of every tour van out there on the highway” – Cancer Bats

Status/Non-Status return with a massive cut of epic indie rock, a transcendent celebration of endurance, adaptation, and resilience. Big Changes emergesfroma momentwhen childhood innocence gives way to the responsibilities and anxieties of adulthood, a tension mirrored in bandleader Adam Sturgeon’s own evolution as an artist. The Anishinaabe musician has continually transformed— shedding old identities, reclaiming his heritage, and shaping new projects such as Status/Non-Status and OMBIIGIZI (Arts&Crafts). Across these shifts, one constant remains: Sturgeon treats each artistic endeavor like family, carrying the weight of provider, protector, and father while navigating a world that often feels on the brink.
Created in a converted church home studio in London, Ontario, Big Changes vibrates with domestic life and societal upheaval, confronting everyday realities in a neighbourhood worn down by inequality, while grappling with a lifelong experience of duality as a mixed Indigenous person in a colonial state. It is the big noise we make together when the world feels like it’s falling apart. It’s survival through connection.
Guest appearances on Big Changes include legendary indiestar Julie Doiron (who shareslead vocalon the single “Good Enough”), Kevin Drew of Broken Social Scene, Zoon, and Will Kidman of Constantines
Engineered and mixed by Dean Nelson (Beck, Thurston Moore, Stephen Malkmus).

Katherine Priddy has announced the release of her third album, These Frightening Machines on March 6 via Cooking Vinyl. The new record follows Priddy’s sophomore LP The Pendulum Swing which firmly established her as one of the most exciting artists on the contemporary British music scene. Produced by Rob Ellis (PJ Harvey, Anna Calvi, Bat for Lashes), These Frightening Machines was written over the course of a year as Priddy made the transition from her 20s to her 30s. The most sonically varied of her career, the songs span a full spectrum of emotions from anger and despair to hope, longing and lust, from reclaiming the voices of women silenced by history, to expressing solidarity and love, to confronting illness, disconnection, the vulnerability and importance of relationships, and the general ache of growing older and not always wiser. They explore what it means to keep going when things fall apart, to hold onto connections in a world that sometimes divides, and to figure out where we fit into the machines and systems we find ourselves a part of. “I wanted to end this album on a question mark,” said Priddy “as whilst I’d have hoped to have it all figured out by the third album and my third decade, I’ve come to accept that perhaps part of being human is being a perpetual work in progress. Could this collection of songs be enough? If it strikes a match and casts a little light for anyone who has ever felt their body falter, their love waver, or time slip through their fingers, then that’s enough for me.” Guests include singer/songwriter Torres who duets on ‘Madeleine’ and Richard Walters who duets on ‘I’m Always Willing’. Revered, alt folk multiinstrumentalist Ben Christophers (Natasha Khan, Guy Garvey and many more) features on most of the album’s tracks.

“Best thing I’ve heard all year” Richard Thompson in MOJO
“Utterly brilliant…one of my favourite voices in contemporary music” Guy Garvey – BBC 6 Music

The Kitchenettes are three friends from the San Francisco Bay Area's outrageously fertile indie scene who have been quietly impressing crowds for several years with their fragile homespun pop songs. Now they're following up their 2024 demos tape with the first Kitchenettes vinyl release, a delightful three song 7" that deftly updates the timeless Marine Girls/Dolly Mixture template for 2026. The three songs show an admirable range of mood, tempo and texture -- a lovely, warm vibe throughout. It’s a wonderfully cozy single destined to be filed amongst Slumberland’s other indiepop classics.

Thealbum Patterns fromNature isan unashamedly ambitious showcase for his remarkable abilities as a composer and orchestrator, working within the space where the heartfelt collaborative improvisation of jazz meets the adventurous rigor of contemporary music and the depth and complexity of conceptual art.
Ascomposer,Nachoffcreatedthecloselywritten, intricatelydetailed scores for a pair of large-ensemble pieces. As bandleader, he oversaw the realisation of those scores by a hand-picked team of remarkable genre-crossing musicians, including pianist Matt Mitchell, percussionist Satoshi Takeishi, bassist Carlo De Rosa, clarinetist Francois Houle, trombonist Ryan Keberle, and the internationally renowned Molinari String Quartet, supported by a large chamber ensemble conducted by JC Sanford
As interdisciplinary collaborator, he worked with physicist Dr. Stephen Morris, whose research into emergent patterns in nature informed the project's structural concepts, and four filmmakersTina de Groot, Lee Hutzulak, Gita Blak, and Udo Prinsen - originally conceived alongside them for a multimedia version of the work, resulting in the titular Patterns from Nature suite of four contrasting movements that engage the listener at every level.

QOW TRIO
The Rule of Three
03/06/2026
With 'The Rule of Three', the unique generation-spanning entity that is QOW TRIO are back with a barnstorming third album. Building logically on the natural development of their two previous collections, this time the fearless threesome can be heard roaming further than ever before into the uncharted hinterlands where the deep jazz tradition of the classic tenor trio format, laden with melody and swing, ventures into the untamed regions of free improvisation.
At the heart of the band is the unmistakable beat of drummer Spike Wells, who this year celebrates his 80th birthday and the 65th year of his extraordinary career at the forefront of jazz in the UK, providing the driving force behind everyone from homegrown heroes Tubby Hayes to Bobby Wellins to visitors like Stan Getz and Roland Kirk and countless others. Riding at his side to represent the current London-based millennial cohort is saxophonist Riley StoneLonergan, whose intriguing compositions and boundless creative imagination as an improvisor continue to add to his burgeoning reputation. Representing the diversity of tastes and interests and uncompromising creative stance typical of Gen X, big-toned bassist Eddie Myer rounds up the posse.
From Ayler to Strayhorn, from be-bop to calypso, from cowboy movie to free-jazz shootout, there's a surprise at every turn, but always delivered with total sincerity and conviction and a driving desire to bring the audience with them every step of the way.

Evening Will Find Itself

AttheheartofsaxophonistandcomposerAlexLoRe'smusicmaking is a fearless approach to exploring the fault lines and contradictions within his art: reconciling the timeless post-bop verities explored by his friends and mentors Greg Osby and Bunky Green with his own awareness of the possibilities of the seemingly opposite extremes of through-composition and freedom.

LIVE 1982 LP

VOID: LIVE 1982 – roaring out of the vault after 40+ years, this live recording from Dischord’s most volatile and energetic band sounds just as fresh and urgent as the day it was captured.
The A-side features the band’s performance from the Wilson Center in April of 1982, on a monster bill that included Minor Threat, Iron Cross, Double O and The Faith. Recorded just a few months before the legendary Faith/Void LP was released, this side b oasts classic tracks from that record such as “Ask Them Why”, “Ignorant People” and a particularly incendiary version of “Who Are You?” with Bubba Dupree’s riffs and John Weiffenbach’s vocals scraping right up to the edge of madness.
The B-side offers the December ’82 show from DC’s legendary 9:30 Club, where they shared the bill with Negative Approach and blew the place out of the water with hardcore classics like “Time To Die”, “My Rules” and “Organized Sports” alongside newer, metal-tinged tracks like “Bloodlust” that would go on to influence a whole new genre of music.

Both shows were professionally recorded by Tom Lyle from Government Issue, with photos from tita n of the scene Jim Saah and art from longtime Dischord designer Jason Farrell. Void – Live 1982 is an incredible collection from one of DC’s most influential bands. Pressed on limited edition clear vinyl, Void – Live 1982 pairs perfectly with the Faith – Live at CBGB’s LP, also available from Outer Battery!
